Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Lolis, Killers, Explorers, Robbers.

YOU ARE LOLI,

and today has been a good day. Not only have you finally made some good friends your own age/gender that don't seem likely to die the first time you get shot at, you've also managed to acquire some new clothes, weapons and supplies from Beard. Even the end to the day wasn't so bad: despite having met a crazy guy that can beat you in single combat, everyone (on your side) walked away from the fight in one piece. Kris and Vasa managed to loot some useful things from the corpses, too, while you helped yourself to some wallets of cash and a pair of chocolate bars.

Now, though, the three of you are at the back of a small cave in the side of a hill not far from the Boiler, preparing for bed time. Vasa is rolling out a pair of sleeping bags in the corner when Kris tosses her silky pink pajamas at you, telling you to get dressed for bed.

You smile your thanks to her. It is late, you are tired, and that sleeping bag does look comfy right about now. But you did have some things you wanted to talk to her about, like her reaction earlier...

"Hey, Kris, it's later now, right?" Her smile weakens a little at your query.

"Heh, yeah, I guess it is." She sighs, and you see Vasa turn her attention to the two of you. "Do I know that guy? Why did I react so badly? Why didn't I help you? Haaa. Where do I even begin?"

"Beginning usually happens at the start, doesn't it?" you point out helpfully. She snorts, giving you an amused grin.

"Alright, I suppose that works." She takes a shaky breath, before sitting herself down at the end of the freshly laid blankets. "I'm... Before... When I... I," she takes another deep breath to steady herself before beginning once more.
"I'm not good at fighting," she states, "or looking after myself. I never have been, and I won't ever be." She doesn't meet your gaze as she starts her story. "When I came into the Zone, alone, I had no hope of surviving the day, let alone a week. If it wasn't for a passing band of rookies, I'd be dead a long time ago."
"They taught me what little I know, which basically amounts to which end of a gun to point at someone, and how not to starve to death." Vasa has settled down onto her end of the blankets, her eyes fixed on you, gauging your reaction.
"And it was great, for a while. They all liked helping me, being a pretty defenseless girl and stuff." Her voice takes on an edge, "but then, he showed up... like from nowhere. All we managed to get was that he liked what he saw, and that he was going to have me for himself. We've seen you fight, Loli, we've watched you carve through bad guys like nothing, no matter how well equipped they are. He's just as good as you, but he doesn't fight like you..." Her voice starts to break a little, "you kill because you have to. And you do it quick, clean. You take someone down so they're dead. He's not like you. When he came for me, he... he..." The damn breaks. Tears begin rolling down her cheeks.
>>
>>29876851
You wait for her to gather herself and continue. "Jude, my- my friend. He was still chocking on his own blood when that... ANIMAL came walking on up, saying how I was now his bitch and how I was going to enjoy it. He grabbed me, and..."
Vasa interrupts Kris' explanation, "and that's I show up. Put some rounds down and Kris starts running. Clever girl, jumps for a mutant hole, but grabs onto the edge. The idiot dives after her, no hesitation, head first into the hole. There was some scrabbling for a while, then the sound of something or someone getting eaten. Well, we assumed the best and let it go..." she trails off, not really knowing what else to say on the matter.

Also we should probably confess that we sort of like killing people. So that it doesn't become a problem later.
>>
>>29876983
"What... what else do I know?" A flash of relief shows on Kris' face that you're not pressing her further on her failings, "I... know his name. 'Kiyaya Aristov'. And that he has a bandit brother. Or, had." The corners of her mouth curl up into a smirk, "other than that... I think he's a mercenary? As far as taking him out goes... he's better than you, Loli, in every way. Just don't try it. Really. And he doesn't care about other people's lives. His men mean less than bullets to him. I think the only way to get him would be to hold his attention with something, and get someone else to take him down. Kind of like what Vasa almost managed today..."

All you can do is nod as the information sinks in. You leave Kris to her thoughts for a moment while you turn your attention to Vasa.
"So, how about you?"

"...What d'you mean, 'what about me'?"

"When I got into the fight, why didn't you cover me?"

"I... was covering you?"

"You didn't shoot Wolfguy."

"And how would I have done that?" Her tone tells you she's not best pleased at this questioning. "You put me in a freakin' bushline facing DOWN the hill. As soon as I saw the RPG hit, I was movin' to get a shot down. Only took me about ten seconds to get clear of the bushline enough to get an angle on him, but all I could see by then was you lying flat on your back and him running off over the ridge."

>Reaction?
>>
>>29877405
Hmm, Oh well. We will probably get another chance sooner or later. He sounded like he would be back.

>>29877405
"Ah... oh. Sorry then," you respond. "I guess we just need better bushes next time." She raises an eyebrow at you, but says nothing. You start to ponder to yourself on how to use this information in the future... somehow, you get the feeling you'll be seeing him again soon. You wonder if you could somehow get your hands on one of those rocket-launcher thingies he fired at you-

Vasa interrupts your train of thought. "Uh, what the heck d'you think this thing I've been lugging around is?"

"Eh?" You look over, and see that she has, indeed, been lugging about one of the rocket launcher thingies. Almost identical to the one he was using...

"Well, he dropped it to fight you. He didn't look like he wanted to keep it, so I helped myself." Huh. Useful. "He wasn't kind enough to drop any grenades for it, thought." Okay, still potentially useful...

Kris has been quiet since you stopped talking to her, so you drop to your knees in front of her and take both her hands in yours. She gives a start, looking at you wide-eyed. "Don't worry, Kris-neesan. I promise you I'm going to kill him!"

Her shocked expression melts into one of amusement. "I believe you," she squeezes your hands back. "But not today. It's late, and we're tired. Now, get some sleep!"

"Fine," you grumble at her, "I'll let you go. But you have to take this." You hand her a whole bar from your chocolate hoard. "Goodnight." You quickly sit down and roll into the covers as Kris stifles a giggle behind you.

As you snuggle in deeper to the covers, you hear her wish you sweet dreams as she heads for the cave entrance.

When you next open your eyes, its already daylight. Kris is sleeping peacefully in Vasa's bag right next to yours, her breath brushing gently against your face. A quick glance reveals Vasa's silhouette against the cave mouth, sitting in a tensed position, ready to spring into action at a moment's notice.

As comfy as this bag is, the two of them have lost sleep over keeping watch. This is no time to be sleeping in, it's your turn to be useful!
You shimmie over to the food bag to see what things you can use to make an enjoyable breakfast.
The selection is rather sparse. Lots of bread, a pack of digestive biscuits, but mostly tinned food. You guess you'll have to make do with what you have. You claw your way out of the sleeping bag, grab your Hello Kitty backpack and some of the food and cooking set before making for the entrance to the cave.

Vasa glances up at you suspiciously as you move to pass her, but you gesture at the food kit in your hands and she shrugs, letting you past.

Literally two paces outside the cave is an open road, so you find a flat space in the middle of it and set up the cooking kit. A quick forage on the side of the road presents enough dry foliage to start a fire.
You've never really done it before, but you've seen people on TV start fires and it's never too difficult for them...

After ten minutes, Vasa finally sighs in exasperation, crossing to you and lighting the fire first time. Ah, great! Now to go about melting chocolate...

You fill the pot with water and set it to a slow boil. You break one bar into really small lumps before dropping them in, while dropping another two bars into another pan, which also goes over the fire. You keep them quite high up, so as not to heat up to fast and are rewarded with the delicious smell of melting chocolate.
You hear deep breaths and some moans from behind you, and see Vasa is actually salivating at the smell, staring hungrily at you. A rustling sound alerts you to the fact that the smell has also awoken Kris.

You're not quite sure how long you're supposed to leave chocolate to melt, but- ah! Okay, it's going black around the edges. That's too long! You take the pan off the fire and start to drizzle it over the things you've prepared. The chocolate flows really well over the biscuits, setting in and looking as if they'd always been chocolatey. The bread slices doesn't go quite as well, but still looks... edible. The actual hunk of bread slathered in chocolate is a much better outcome. With the last dregs, you also make sure to make a chocolate-drizzled chocolate bar, then open a fifth bar in order to make a hard chocolate sandwich.
By this point, the water is coming to a proper boil. You take it off the heat, mixing it around a bit. Not quite what you were hoping for, but it definitely almost seems like a hot chocolate! You pour it into three mugs, then spread out the selection of food on a tray and calling to the others that breakfast is ready.

If only you had more usable ingredients ready, you could make such a feast...

The words have barely left your lips before Vasa comes skidding to a stop next to you, having literally leapt through the air from her position in the cave mouth. She grabs the chocolate-coated bread the moment its within her reach and takes a huge mouthful. Kris makes a somewhat more dignified entry, sleepily rubbing her eyes and squinting at the light as she crosses to sit down beside you. A flash of guilt runs through you as you note that she's wearing nothing but her panties and vest, what with how you're wearing her only set of pajamas. She doesn't seem phased by her own state of dress though, as she enthusiastically starts to devour the chocolate digestives. She takes a pause between bites to give you a heartfelt thanks for something sweet for breakfast, while Vasa continues to wolf down the entire loaf of bread. You're sort of worried that she's gonna be sick if she keeps it up like that. You used five whole chocolate bars for this breakfast, and they're already half way through it.

You also notice that her cup of 'hot chocolate' is empty. You didn't hear any complaints, so it must be good?

You can't be letting everyone else enjoy your chocolate without you! You take one of the digestives from Kris and try a bite. Wow! It does taste just like the real thing! Score!

[Cacaomany +2!]

Next up, the chocolate bread slice. You were trying to mimic chocolate spread, but... the chocolate has seeped into the slice and set deep inside. It's quite tough to bite through, and the bread is just giving a horrible, fluffy texture to the melted chocolate.

[Cacaomany -1!]

The hard chocolate sandwich isn't much better, but at least you can separate it out into its separate ingredients still.

[Cacaomany +0]

Vasa has already polished off the hunk, so you'll assume it was good!

[Cacaomany +1!]

The chocolate-covered chocolate is... well. Chocolate. The melted section has a different texture, but the taste is still the same. Still, it's interesting.

[Cacaomany +0]

And last but not least, the chocolate water. You give a sniff. It sort of smells like sweet, milky water, but there's something off about it that you can't quite grasp. You tip the mug back and take a healthy gulp.
>>
>>29880242
[Cacaomany Reset to Zero. How could you inflict something like this on the world?]

The initial taste as it runs down your tongue is that of the sweet melted chocolate, with the sugar and flavorings having seeped out into the water. As soon as the initial rush is over, however, you're left with the component parts of chocolate: the taste of cacao beans.
You've never tasted something so bitter in your life. You gag on the taste, chocking it back up as you try to clear the offending taste from your mouth. It doesn't budge, though, the particles having wedged themselves onto your tongue and holding tight. You grab a nearby bottle of water to try and swill the taste out, but even that only helps a little. You take another bite of the chocolate, which just about clears the taste by replacing it with more sugar. You heave a sigh of relief and collapse back onto the road. In the corner of your eye, you see Kris subtly tipping her mug out onto the ground.
>>
>>29880286
As you finally recover and sit yourself back up, you find that the two girls have finished eating and are packing everything away, carefully wrapping your treats for later consumption. When everything's cleared, Kris looks to you, "alrighty, how about we go get dressed up for the day, and then we can see about doing something productive with th-" she cuts off mid-sentence, staring over your shoulder, "oh. Your friend's back!"

You spin on the spot to find Doggy loping along the road towards you, tongue lolling and tail wagging high. As soon as he reaches you, you reach out to greet him but he bounces away from you energetically. "Eh? Doggy? What's up, what is it?" He bounces around a few times, gesturing back the way he came. You get the impression he's found something that he really, REALLY wants you to see.

She's caught completely off-guard by the request, but to her credit she still automatically reaches down to grab your holsters off the floor and toss them your way. You quickly start off after Doggy, trying to belt the pistols around you as you jog.

"Ah, what, hang on Loli, wait! Wait for us!" Kris is left standing alone in the road watching you disappear around the corner. "Damnit!"
