(Welcome to Seafarer of the Stars Quest! We are Geo Von Hunter, a young lad in the Maritime Academy of Stars, hoping to become a full-fledged captain!)

Previous thread:>>29799784

This is it. What you've been waiting for. All this time in the Maritime Academy of Stars, and now, your final is here. It's been a long journey, and now, the end is in sight. You go to your final Nautical class, where two frigates await, stripped to the bones. Professor Silver, a potbellied, smiling man, waves at you all, stepping to the front of the crowd.

“Today, class, I welcome you to the realm of sailors. For this is going to be your grand final. Here, off the shores of the academy, we shall hold a mock duel, to test your weaponeering, cultural, and nautical skills! In the harbor-”

He points off the shoreline, where you can see two massive islands floating in sea-space.

“We have two islands, representing each side. Your job is to take these boats and outfit them with the appropriate material for the culture they represent, and fight for control. Whoever takes the flag of the other island, back to their own, wins! In the next few days, do your best to prepare for this battle!”

“Now, divide into groups!”

Almost immediately, you watch the crowd separate from Seigrid, and Espadan prince.. Ever since he stole that crystal and got arrested, People have been avoiding him like the plague. It doesn't help that he has a crazed, desperate look on his face.

But can you really let him fail because of it?

You:

>Join him.

As the crowd shifts, placing distance between themselves and Seigrid, you step forward. The crowd stops and for a second you feel uncomfortable as they stare and you and Seigrid on the same side. Then, two people join you. Alantra steps over, and so does Serseri. You look and Seigrid, and give him a firm nod.

You may not be friends, but at the very least, you can work together. With this, the crowd moves again, and balances itself a little bit more evenly. While the other side has quite a bit more people, you now have enough for a good-sized crew.

Professor Silver claps his hand once and grins.

“Excellent! Now, we have agents around the docks, so we want you find them and arrange for all the equipment you will need for your ship. Though there may be one problem.”

With this, he grins. “We have an uneven amount of everything. So depending on who you go to first, you may find yourselves lacking in areas.”

Each side stares at him.

“well, what are you waiting for? Go! The sails and cannon merchants are there...and there!”

He points in two opposite directions.

You decide to head to:

>The cannon merchants. +Weaponeering
>the Sail merchants. +Nautical

>Sails

Quickly, you head to the Sails merchant and see three parcels set out. It's no question which is the superior, so you grab the best one, and send some of the crew members back to install them on the masts. At the Cannon merchant, however, six parcels of cannons greet greet you. Looking at them, it seems it would be hard to tell which one is the better choice.

The merchant, seeing your reluctance, speaks.

“Half of the packages is stock standard for a ship. The other, however, will impede it rather greatly. Use the skills you picked up in the academy, and choose wisely, whether you want close, medium, or long-ranged ones.””

You look over the cannons, but Serseri immediately heads to the row on the left.

“We should pick the ones in this row.”

Alantra pipes up. “yes, but which ones?”

The choice falls to you.

With both sails and cannons in hand, you run back to the ship and get everything installed and working. As you work, a man taps you on the shoulder.

“Directions to the cartography merchants and the weapon merchants, sir.” You turn to go, but the messenger taps your shoulder again.

“I would recommend bringing someone with you, to better identify the best goods at the second merchant.”

Looking around, you realize you can only spare two people, including yourself. You decide to take:
>Serseri, cartographer first.
>Seigrid, weapon merchant first.
>Other combination.
>>

>Serseri, Cartographer

Taking Serseri with you, you head over to the cartographer. One map is clear and easy to read. The others, however seem to be vastly different from what you understand. There's no choice here. You pick the map you can read. Heading over to the weapons merchant, you look at the weapons left. Digging through them, Serseri comes to a conclusion.

“We can arm everyone equally with equipment slightly inferior, or arm 3 or 4 of us with equipment better than their's at the cost of everyone else's equipment.

Hmm. There's about 25 or so people on their boat, and 14 on yours..
You:
>make everyone equal.
>arm 3 or 4 better.
Finally, your equipment in tow, you head back to the ship, only to see the messenger again.

“Last maps, sir. One to the special equipment shop, and the other to the Hull armor merchants. With this, we wish you good luck.” The messengers leave, and you go to the:

>Hull Armor ship

>Equal, Special equipment.

You walk into the special equipment shot, and what greets you is not similar objects, but rather, items vastly different. One is a bundle of flags. Another is a pair of longboats. The third is grapeshot stunners, cannon ammo meant for taking out troops (temporarily) rather than damaging the ship.

You consider your options and pick:
>The bundle of flags, to confuse the enemy about which is the real one.
>Longboats, for extra maneuverability.
>grapeshot, to take down their crew.

And when you make it to the armor merchant, all he has left is some light plating. Throwing it onto the wagon, you head back to the ship.

It's time for building.
(Roll a 3d100, first in Weaponeering to train/arm crew, Second is Cultural to determine crew relations, third is Nautical to determine ship conditions.)

Work on the crew goes better than you expect. With the three best fighters in the class, the troops seem to fight on an AMAZING level.
Thanks to your extreme culturedness, you have no problems relating to any of the troops. Their Crew relations are at a SUPERB level.
The ship turns out well, but given the time limits and everything else, it is merely at a BETTER level.

You have a+5 to steering.
You have no disadvantage at any range.
Once during this battle, you may use the map for a +5 bonus to any roll.
You may use grapeshot and elicit to take out the crew rather than the ship.

"Are you done down there?"

Alantra's voice calls to you, and you look up.

"Almost." With a few deft swipes of the brush, you finish the paintjob, and lean back.

"Trinity." Serseri says. You look at her. "Like it? I figured it would work." She nods once at you, and resumes whatever she was doing before. Meanwhile, you notice a weight slide down the rope.

It's Alantra. she peers at the name. "Oh...Is it because we've got people of every nation here?" You nod, and she smiles. "That's a great name!"

You allow a grin on your face, and turn to the crew, who looks upon their work. Opinion seems to be divided on whether or not to take a break, or continue practicing. Everyone in the group looks to you.

>Rousing Speech.

The room goes silent as you stand up and take a deep breath.

“Friends, look around you. Were are a varied, crew, each hailing from different lands, and different origins.” You pause.

“But it does not matter! For what is this ship called?”

“The Trinity!” someone calls, and you nod.

“Yes! We named it not after any whimsical thought or dream, but the goal, nay, the fact, that if our nations unite, we can over come any obstacle!”

the crowd cheers, and you continue.

“Within the span of three days, we have done what many of our ancestors would have considered impossible. We have created a grand ship, using the strongest points of every single nation!”

You look around the crowd, and find your officers.

“Our Quartermaster, Serseri! Our Sailmaster, Alantra, our Mater Gunner, Seigrid!”

Cheers go up, and you ready yourself for that last line.

“Believe, not in yourself, but in your allies! Believe in us, who will believe in you!” With that, you slam down your tankard, and walk onto the deck, to the beat of “HELMSPLITTER! HELMSPLITTER!”

Once you exit topside, you find it to be a quiet contrast from the rowdy mess hall. As you relieve the guard from duty, you quietly take over for the rest of the night.

There is no sleep for the captain.

Only planning for his crew.

The next morning, you ring the bell, and wake up your crew. The fall out of their bunks and ready themselves. Positioning yourself on your island, you look towards the docks, eyeing Silver's figure.

He raises his hand.

And fires a gun.

The match has begun.

“What are your orders, captain?”

You hear Alantra call out from the helm.

You reply:

>Full speed. We meet and engage over cannonfire on their side
>Full speed, brace for ramming!

On your command, Alantra starts issuing orders to the sailors, who quickly hop to it. You watch as she sends the ship forwards, subtly adjusting the wheel in order to get the best performance out of the ship. As expected, the quality of your sails send you rocketing forward.

With your sharp eye, you notice that they have long-range cannons. Perhaps sensing your thoughts, Alantra sends the ship in a dive, angling to get below their field of fire. As she spins the wheel, turning the ship\ on the side, you hear Seigrid down below.

“Ready! Aim! Fire!”

The deck rings with the sound of cannons thundering, and his steady aim is rewarded by damages on the ship's keel.

You got in a great shot.

Unfortunately, their armor is far to heavy to be taken down in one salvo.

Their ship turns as your does, presenting cannons ready to shoot. As they do so, you watch as two longboats drop off from the ship, ans zoom towards your island.

They will reach it in 3 or so passes.

You decide to:

>head to their island and take their flag. The game cannot be won unless both flags are present.
>Try and take down their ship. With less people, now would be a gareat time to use the grapeshot.
>try and take their ship, and gain control of both vessels. Victory would practically be assured.

“Seigrid! Load the grapeshot! We move on them now!”

You hear Seigrid relay your orders, and down below you hear the mechanical clunks as the rounds are changed.

As the opposing ship fires, Alantra spins the wheel, turning the ship once more. The spinning sides take away some of the damage, and in return, you have a great angle on their top deck.
“FIRE!”

Seigrid's voice rings out one more, and across their ship, you can see crewmen drop.

Their response? You slowly see the ship turn.

Another rushes into range, but you backstep and fire your pistol from the hip, taking him down as well. Drawing your cutlass, you charge into battle. You yell for Serseri, but you notice she's a bit occupied keeping your troops from harm at the ship's helm.

You need to lure this big guy over there. Darting in, you slash quickly with your cutlass, hoping to draw his complete attention more that anything else. With his massive, speedy swings, you know you can't parry him. Slowly but surely, you get him where you need. As he swings down, you drop your weapons, and tightly seize the club. For an instant, you hold him still.

That's all Serseri needs. Leaping from the helm, she drops down on him, stabbing the back of his neck. He shrieks in agony, and when he drops his club, you grab ahold of both his arms, and and pull him into a devestating headbutt. As he collapses onto the groundyou smile momentarily at Serseri before turning to Seigrid.

”Take control of the long cannons and shoot down those longboats. Alantra, get us to that island!”

She throws you a quick slaute, and begins peeling the boat away from the other. You dash for the railing, and jump, landing onto the boat with a tight roll. Within moments, you quickly land ashore, run towards the pedestal.

There's two empty slots to put a pole in.
And no flag. You curse momentarily, and realize what has happened. They must have removed their own flag. So it must be....

On the longboats!

They need to get them into the pedestals to win. Running towards the shore, you see the two longboats zip around, rapidly charging direction to throw off cannon fire..

You yell at your crew to:

>Stop firing. You'll settle it on this island.

You tell Siegrid to shoot them down, You watch as he aims one of the smaller cannons. It fires, and you watch as the boat speedily zips way. You watch, flabbergasted by his bad aiming skills, then the boat suddenly stops. You think for a bit, and realized he just lured it into a dead zone, killing the engine. He turns to the second and fires once more. It was an amazing shot, taking out one of the men on the boat, but unfortunately, not the other. He leaps of with the flag, and looking towards the other one, you watch as he swings himself on a rope, landing onto the island as well. The duo seem to be cautious, for they wait patiently for any sort of opening as they approach you.

You can't bother to wait. You fake an opening by lunging for one, and one of them takes it. You turn to grab him, but as you do so, the other his you with the flag. They both slip past and raise the flags to the pedestal-only to drop unceremoniously.

You turn back to see Alantra and Serseri carrying stunner rifles, and giving each other a high five. Letting loose a grim, you pick up both flags and:

Checking the longboats for any sort of decoy or traps, you ensure they are indeed, empty. Boarding the Trinity once again, you order full sails back to your island. Carrying the two flags, you jump ashore once you land, and stare at the pedestals.

Two men stand in front of you, the last line of defense. You look at them carefully. Unlike you, they seem fresh and energetic, ready for a fight. For a second they look at you cockily, swinging their swords and flexing their muscles.

Then Serseri, and Alantra hop down, holding weapons, and Seigrid follows, massive blunderbuss in hands. The rest of the crew follows suit, swords and guns at the ready.

You look at the two again, who immediately drop their swords and run away. Passing a flag to the girls, you and Siegrid take the other. Holding it up, you allow for rest of the crew to gather and place their hands on the poles as well.

As one, you all thrust in the flags together.

“Victory!” the cheer goes up into the night sky, and as you collapse in exhaustion, you look up the starry sky, where a plethora of fireworks explode, bathing you all in a variety of colours.

The clean-up was uneventful. With everyone having spent so much energy, you retire to your bed. The next few days are a blur. Paperwork is handled, grades are finalized, scores made. However, as the papers pass you by, all you can think of is one thing.

All you can think of is what's going to happen to you and everyone else? This academy has been a great deal of fun, but what happens out there, upon the real seas?

Your thoughts are muddled, as are everyone else's.

Then, one day, Professor Silver calls you into his office. As you head inside, you notice two things. Firstly, Alantra is there. Secondly, a man dressed in the clothes of a Royal messenger has is there as well. Seeing you at the door, Silver waves you in.

“Come in, my mate, take a seat.” He turns to the messenger. :”This was the captain I was telling you about. Snatched victories from the jaws of defeat, and did it with half the crew o' the-”

You notice the messenger simply stares at Silver flatly, who coughs.

“Ahem. Well, uh.., as you may not know, I represent the Astravan Monarchy when it comes to dealing with this school, and am responsible for recommending the best students for Her Majesty's Navy. And you two, have been sele-”

The messenger interrupts, his voice cleared and measured. 'Alantra Vander of the Vander Estate, and Geo Von Hunter, of the Hohenstaufen Estate, you have graduated from the Maritime Acedmy of Stars with flying colours. Your actions have earned you the respect and interest Her Majesty, Queen Adelida, who personally extends her invitation for the two of you to become established commissioned officers, with all the privileges and duty the rank of Ensign entails. What say you, Alantra and Geo of Astrava?”

You look at the man, and back at Alantra. She stares at you, and for some reason, you know that whatever you answer is will likely be hers as well.

>Sure.

“Sure.” the messenger nods at your worlds, and looks at Alantra. Stunned for a moment, You watch as she sits, frozen. Then, a tiny nod. “Y-yes.”

The messenger writes something down. “I see. Another messenger will be in contact soon. Best of luck.” He leaves, and before you can turn to Alantra, she excuses herself.

With this, you have chosen the door you walk through.

The graduation ceremony passed in the blink of an eye. Speeches were sounded, stories were remembered, but like all good things, it must come to an end. As you walked around in that main hall, you passed by acquaintances and friends. People would often, wave or tap their foreheads. Bernke, the club-wielding Coutlan, gave you a shake in the style of his people, and a few others hugged or thanked you.

As you walked out the main hall, you noticed Seigrid standing where the two of you first met. Nodding at him, you turned, and looked up and the inscription.

“Still sure you know what I means?” you ask, and he shakes his head.

“Not at all, thanks to you. You know, I was a real dirtbag when I came here. Showing off, gathering lackeys. I was cocky. But extremely jealous. That's why I attempted to steal that crystal, and why I hated you so much.' He pauses, and looks at his hands.

“When you caught me, I hated you more than anything in the world. And yet, when I was at my lowest, you stood by me.”

he turns, and sticks his hand out to you.

“So thank you.”

You shake his hand, and pull him in for a hug. He hugs back and grins. “Unfortunately, we still have a score to settle.”

You smile back. “99-98, my favor?”

He shakes his head. I think it's “98-99, in favor of me.”

You shake your head and wave him off.

You go down to the docks, and sit, waiting for a transport to take you back home.

A tap interrupts you reverie.

Turning around, you see Serseri, and the two of you stand there, staring at each other.

You give a little wave.

“It was nice serving with you, Serseri. Thanks for helping me out.”

Her face turns red, and she pull the hood of her cloak down. “Y-you too.”

For a moment, you both stand there. Then she darts in, and wraps her arms around you tightly.

A hug. She's giving you a hug.

>Hugs.

You move to hug her, but with a subtle turn of her body, she slips out of your grasp, and into the crowd around you. You call for her, once or twice, but there's no response. Resigning yourself to your fate, you sit, and wait. It is not long before a transport back to Astrava shows up, and you board early, and stare out at the people milling about.

“Catch.” You turn to see Alantra behind you, tossing a small wooden box your way. You catch it, and flip it open.

Inside is a glowing red crystal, smaller than your palm.

“Serseri was panting when she fond and told me to give you that. She must have been running all over the place trying to find you.”

You stay silent and stare at the crystal.

“Hey, cheer up, it's not the last time we'll see them all, you know.” She leans against the railing.

“We'll all see each other again someday. I know it.”

You:

“Hey, Geo.”

You turn to Alantra, who pecks a quick kiss, right on your lips.

As you stand there flabbergasted, she leans against the railing and turns to you. “I think that personality of yours...is why I like you so much!”

Together, the two of you stand at the aft of the ship, staring out toward the horizon. Towards the setting sun.

And though you may not know, Serseri and Seigrid are doing likewise. Though you each part in a separate direction, you will meet again soon, in the future.

Upon that endless sea.

Fair enough then.

There were a number of spelling errors here and there, missed letters at the start of words usually. I expect you're just typing very quickly, and it was easy to figure out what you meant.

I fucking love space piracy, so you had better continue.

Just post a few hours before the quest begins, and post the link when the quest starts. Remember to notify for any delays/cancellations.
I'm sure you'll figure out the particular's of creating a twitter, there are enough fools on it that I doubt it's hard.
