You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

You're finally awake... though everything still kind of hurts, you're back in one piece at the very least.

>Sorry, but you've been stripped down to the rank of DOG!
>Though dogs are loyal, they're not all that smart...
>Though she still considers you her friend, she thinks a little less of you... and also herself.
>And while dogs are man's best friend, they still don't count as people.

"I guess I lost then," you say with a long sigh. "Where's everyone else?"
"Oh- umm, everyone else stopped by to make sure that you were alright... even the King!" Sylvie says with a weak smile. "I just stuck around because I wanted to make sure that they didn't mess up your surgery... you lost a lot of blood, Reinhold," she sighs.

"Nicolette's with Melanie and Rana right now, she was crying pretty hard," Sylvie says, shaking her head as she recalls the miserable state that her best friend was just in. "They're in the waiting room right now along with Elena and Mr. Andreas."
"What about the others?" you ask.
"I guess Sir Gregory tried to go and murder Mr. Gilbeault after he did what he did to you... he's with Uncle Thierri right now, I think he's trying to keep him calm."

"Sir Gregory got that mad about me getting injured?" you ask, rather surprised to hear that.
"He's taken a liking to you," Sylvie replies, smiling. "Probably because he's happy that Nicolette has another actual friend to associate with..."

That's not any consolation, we still lost and it's public record now.

What's important is who won and Monique won even if he did play the rules a bit. So who is the better swordsman now? Monique. Actual skill means nothing.
>>
>>29695833
We fought an insane pretty boy with a Kingsword who only won because said sword was (Illegally I believe) healing him. We may have lost the duel and our sword but if the kingsword wasn't healing Monique he would've lost when we knocked him down and he barely got back up. The only shame we should feel is how bad our puns were.

No actually they were great puns. No shame.

Well, if Marianne told us to go fight somebody to the end, he'd probably disregard that order and quit, because a person like that wouldn't be worth guarding.

Well, this is definitely correct
>>
>>29695925
We weren't fighting for public record. We don't give a fuck what the public thinks of us. We were fighting for ourself, our own desires.

And Reinhold has proven to himself that he's the better swordsman, the better man, and never stopped moving forward.
>>
Oh shit.

OH SHIT.

As you jump out of your bed, Sylvie does her best to keep you from falling over as your knees buckle from under you. Shit, your legs hurt too.

"Reinhold!?"
"Citrine's pregnant!" you shout. "Please, I need to see if she's-"
"I told you not to worry..." Sylvie sighs. "...but since I know you're just going to run off on your own, could you at least let me help you out of the room?"
"Yeah, alright."

You feel pretty weak right now... probably because of the loss of blood. But that's not important right now, you NEED to confirm with your own two eyes that Citrine is okay!

As Sylvie helps you over to the door, it swings open before her hand can reach the doorknob. And there's Citrine, looking at you with watery eyes.

>[1/?]
>>
We do owe Citrine and Agnes apologies at least.

For Citrine, well, we saw how upsetting this was for her.
And with Agnes, she had to live through all the rest of her family dying. And now, just when it looked like she might have something left, she had to watch us nearly get killed.

Also, if we end up blaming anyone else, it should only be Monique. Don't try to put this on Marie, or Luci, or any of them. That's just cowardly.
>>

We don't actually do circuit dueling like Agnes though, we have a cushy bodyguard job, remember? Our Win/Loss record doesn't matter.

I'm just going to fill in the blanks, but I would assume that Reinhold is the type of person who never surrenders (this trait was recognized by Aquaman). People who guard royalty have to be prepared to fight to the death against insurmountable odds. It doesn't matter that enemy soldiers are flooding into the throne room, you stand and die so that your charge can escape out the secret door. That doesn't mean we should be an idiot and put ourselves in unwinnable positions, and Reinhold clearly was a moron by trying to continue the fight, but he's young and can learn not to be an idiot. You usually don't learn that kind of stubbornness though.

The first half was DEFINITELY about wanting to see what a Sealed King was capable of.

But the second half, once we already got to see what it could do, was about making it a pyrrhic victory because Monique was being the world's largest shit, and it just wouldn't have been right to give him the satisfaction of a forfeiture after the way he acted.
>>
>>29696359
The post you responded to is (in my opinion) more in amazement that we got to fight a sealed king.

Which I think should be part of Reinhold's response.
>>
>>29696334
>"Don't even care about the loss, actually."
Marianne did tell us to win. So we should care at least a little bit.

Which really shouldnt be rein current mindset with the sword broken.

It was good to fight one but the cost was too high.

>>

Pretty much this.

I'll be honest, the absolute best thing we can do?

Defend Monique. I know, I know, not a popular sentiment, and I'm one of the people who was calling for blood when our sword broke.

THink about it though. Monique was so psychotically vindictive, he probably thinks his target will be as well. Imagine how fucking shitty he will feel when we defend the honor of the duel INSTEAD of bitching out?

He'll be squirming in his gay little highboots.
>>
>>29696534
It's not even trauma

But Reinhold can't be all suave and conquer all the time man, sometimes, like these last 5 threads, you need a little sad.
>>
>>29696557
Well all the better since we were raised in a brothel.i figured we can gaggle things easily and know stuff about make up and dresses
>>
One thing to everyone who's going "yeah volker would be proud."
Volker hated breaking (his own) swords, it was a massive pain in the ass and it meant that he was out a weapon until he could find another.
Good swords are expensive, even for a noble, and it was a massive pain in the ass to have a sword break just as he'd finally got accustomed to its grip and weight.

But his form was shit and he never figured out how to stop doing it.
>>
>>29696534
Listen anon, we need to roleplay some negativity too. Reinhold can't react to everything like its a high point in his life. Some adversity and suffering is good for the character, and I much prefer it doesn't just happen in flash backs
>>
>>29696508
No.

Hell, it's a sword for a sword, even if it was a dick move on his part we should still call it even.
>>
>>29696508

You know he'll throw the same thing back at us.

His sword was given by his granddad on his deathbed after all.
>>
>>29696545
I don't see why, Volker was well known for breaking his swords all the time, and Reinhold finally managed to break the one even Volker couldn't, this is like an extra pat on the back to Reinhold over and above getting to fight a sealed king.
>>
>>29696565
I think we should do neither
He isn't worth our vengeance, and the sword is just someone we haven't met and we therefore don't really have an opinion of
>>
>>29696580
How much of that did we know? I mean, he only trained us for like a week or something right?
>>
>>29696444
I think he would regard it as unfortunate, but Reinhold doesn't strike me as a man overly sentimental about objects. Especially if they are used exactly as they were intended to be used. I DO imagine he will beat the fuck out of Monique if given half an opportunity for being such a spiteful cunt.
>>
>>29696565
I think we should just not acknowledge him.

He said the 'grudge' is settled, and honestly I don't care to have a rematch; there's no point in continuing Monique's wild ride

Volker didn't LIKE breaking his swords. There's a point in the flashback where he complains about the necessity of carrying back up swords.

I think he'd be more proud of us if we overcame that weakness in his style

"...maritime first aid?" Marius mumbles. "I didn't know you knew that stuff..."
"That's why I'm always nagging you to eat right, stupid," Citrine says as she elbows her husband in the stomach. "Stuff like scurvy can still happen on land, you know?"

>>Sword Deconstruction 1/2
Monique- What does Monique’s Sword, referring to his great-grandfather’s sword that Rein broke, mean to him? To Monique, I think it’s pretty clear that his sword represented Pride. Monique is the third son of a small noble family, and due to combination of moronic promises and bad genetics he has a girl’s name and a girly face. That has undoubtedly set him up for all sorts of mockery from his eldest brother and most likely left Monique with a bit of a complex. I conjecture that his constant attempts at social climbing aren’t because he like climbing the social ladder, but rather because he feels the need to be valued in other’s eyes. Monique seeks approval.

Monique’s sword represented to a certain extent his own claim to family legacy, his martial talent. The sword was the first thing Monique could really take pride in, and he was going to use it to win the Granarche Tourney to prove it to his country. When Rein broke Monique’s sword, he actually broke Monique’s pride to a certain extent.

Reinhold- What does Volker’s Sword represent to Reinhold? Well, let's think about Volker's impact on Reinhold's life. At first Volker simply provided a friendly face in a world all too few. Eventually he started teaching Reinhold how to sword. Finally he offered to adopt Rein and Citrine, freeing them from their shitty existences. When Volker died and Rein received the sword, Rein used it to climb through the ranks of the army and earn his way up until he reached the Granarche Tourney. Through his old sword, Volker was still helping Rein hold along. When he won the Tourney, Rein won the good life, a life free from any really nasty shit. Volker, through his blade, gave Rein hope. I think hope is the source of Reinhold's endless font of optimism.

So what did Monique break when he shattered Volker’s Sword? He broke Rein's hope yo.

not that we'll do it or anything. however, we have no control over that if it does. it would still be amuseing in any case.
>>
>>29696962
Sort of. The only problem with these analyses is that both have long since internalized the meaning the swords had to them. Monique is going to be a prideful git for quite a while yet, especially because his parents are almost definitely going to see this much differently from him. Reinhold on the other hand, has become a rather optimistic and hopeful person. Even though the sword is gone, he knows that he'll be ok. It might be because he resolves to reforge the sword, or to never break one again. But he'll keep moving forward
>>

I wonder why Volker did not try and use a spell for his swording needs. Do you think it would be possible to alter Fragment Blader to produce a sword of specific characteristics for someone who is accustomed to casting it often?

no, Archelon did say they existed. crossbows and firearms don't exist some how.

"It is a good thing that he didn't get my nerves though, " you say as you open and close both of your hands. "Guess I got lucky."
"Actually," Sylvie begins, "the injuries to your hands were pretty clean in general."
"Uh... clean? They hurt like hell, and I was bleeding like crazy."

"No, I mean in that they didn't go through any major arteries or tendons or nerves," Sylvie replies. "I watched the medics as they treated you, and they were pretty shocked by that," she sighs. "I dunno how, but those two hits were really precise... your collarbone was pretty awful, though."
"It FELT pretty horrible," you mumble, wincing as you remember -exactly- how much that shit hurt.

"Yeah... they had to open you up and have someone hold the pieces in place so a second medic could fuse them back together... there was SO MUCH BLOOD," she groans. "But you're okay now, right? Nothing feels out of place?"
"No, I'm pretty alright," you reply. "Aside from how sore and weak I feel, anyways."

A world without crossbows is fucking terrifying from a peasant's perspective.

Those poor sods, no wonder the nobles are such arrogant dicks.

That and magic. Nobles are a lot more likely to be able to use magic.
>>
>>29696973
You can make those without a printing press

I think books and scrolls were made with magic, but magic is still a far cry from a machine that just does it all for you

I don't think it's something you can just cast and let it go.

>>
>>29697115
The fucked up collarbone injury was done before Setsuranka was revealed, so it was probably Monique.
The rest was clean, so it was Setsuranka's possession.

Setsuranka made an effort not to kill Reinhold.

>>
>>29697088
It wouldn't be a cast and let it go... And the first printing presses were "do it all for you" either. They need people to constantly pull levers and and refill the ink and shit because they didn't have steam power to run it.

I imagine the magic printing press would start with a master copy that was made by hand. You have a few hundred blank pieces of paper. Cast your spell and all those blank papers are now copies of the original.
>>
>>29697158
He stabbed us in the collar down to the bone prior to revealing her. That was his single hit on us before he pulled her out.

the guy likes to hardblock broadswords with rapiers and sabers. That should tell us a lot about his skills

"Who is it?" Sylvie calls out.
"Prince Emilio and Karel!" Karel shouts back from the other side of the door.
"Come on in!" you call out...

Looks like they didn't heal your throat, it REALLY hurt to shout like that.

As the door opens, Emilio comes rushing in. He looks extremely guilty, but Karel... he just seems pissed.

"Umm.... Reinhold?" Emilio says as he walks over to you bed. "I'm really sorry about this entire thing... if it wasn't for Father trying to show off for my party, you probably wouldn't have been forced into that duel," he sighs.

"I wasn't 'forced' into the duel at all, Prince Emilio. I chose it. Just like I chose to continue fighting when Monique tried to break me like his father."
>>
>>29697179
While he is better than some, he is a VASTLY inferior swordsman than Reinhold. His only good hit on us was when we failed the roll, and even then, that was a mistake on our part. It wasn't until he was possessed by his sword that he started hitting us, and even then we still pulled off something few others could; we crippled him. He was at that point completely incapable of continuing if not for the sword, so while his sword won for him, HE lost horribly.
>>
>>29697232
this
rein has 10 points of sword and 1 or 2 points of magic
monique has 8 points of sword and 8 points of magic

And its gonna come up infront of slyvie.

Excellent.

I await the catfight with bated breath as slyvie blames Luci and Luci blames herself.

one guy mentioned it, in character all i can think of is it being his sister and the kiss, which should NOT be talked about with sylvie right there

why would we think that something is wrong with Marie?
Rein has no reason to believe that she was worried.

Making them continuously in-thread is tolerable, if bordering on Chin-levels of this-is-getting-old. It'd be less hoarid if they were a little more original

All this insisting on constantly trying to make them in-character is insufferable.

"Sylvie here carried you off..." Karel says, nodding to her. "...and then I did my damnedest to get the ruling for that duel changed to a win in your favor since the FAAAAAABULOUS Mr. Gilbeault went and cheated, using his Sealed King to hold himself together."
"Wait, what?" you ask.
"Nearly all of his ribs were broken," Emilio says. "Lots of blood, it was really bad from what I heard. The only reason he was able to get back up after your hit was because Setsuranka was keeping him alive, basically."
"And unfortunately, he's still alive." Karel growls.

"The ref spouted some bullshit about him violating the spirit of the rules but not the letter so they're still counting it as your loss," Karel sighs. "I tried to convince him otherwise, but the crowd wasn't having it."
"From what I've heard from the guards I asked, most of the townspeople think that Mr. Gilbeault is the most amazing person ever," Emilio says, frowning. "But you also impressed a bunch of people by doing as well as you did."

"That sounds like fun," you laugh.

Waving goodbye, Emilio and Karel leave the room... and Luciana shows up a few minutes later.

We use the handle from Volker's blade and Tina is the pommel gem. After the night is done, we realize we've done it. We created the only Sealed Queen to appear in this season

Remember, not only does Monique have this sword, it apparently -likes- him and is cooperating with him. Again, there's nothing legendary or exceptional about him (at least, no more so than Reinhold, certainly not compared to other cast members such as Gregory).

Did Monique find Setsuranka completely at random? Is he a distant descendant of the elemental soul trapped in the weapon? Does Setsuranka have an ulterior motive for using the boy that he hasn't perceived? So many questions, and...we're going back to harem-related stuff. That's what's frustrating. I'm worried we'll never come back to it.

"I... I'm happy to see that you're doing well, Reinhold," Luciana says, stopping rather far away from the bed. "I was really worried about you, but I suppose you really are a tough one..." she says, forcing a smile. For all we know, the sword sensed how desperate he was for revenge, and told him the equivalent of quid pro quo: "I'll help you realize your dream, but you must do X for me," where X can range from releasing the Sealed King curse on that particular weapon, to gathering ALL of them up and unsealing them all at once (bad idea), to making Setsuranka the most bitchin' ham sandwich ever conceived.

Maybe add "how do I not break swords when I fight?" but this is probably not best suited for now.

we punched him in the face because it was the best goddamned option.

otherwise, nicolette gets into a fight with him and destroys him, or she gets in a fight with him and gets hurt, in which case gregory ends him, or there's no fight and he goes unpunished for insulting gregorys wife, which would again end in him being turned into red mist when greg finds out.

"I'm sorry I made you worry, Grandma," you say, "but it was probably the only chance I'll ever get to fight a Sealed King. I wanted to make the most of it."
"Yes, I could tell that from your reaction when that boy first revealed that he's Setsuranka's master," Agnes sighs. "I wish you would've simply quit right then and there, but I suppose that stubborn streak is something that you share in common with Volker..."

"Volker was like that too?" Citrine asks.
"Yes, and that's part of the reason why he's no longer here with us," Agnes says with a sad smile. "His employer was killed and Adrien was close to death... Adrien says that he was smiling when he faced those two dragons," she sighs. "If he'd just waited it out inside the Sanctuary and healed Adrien instead of trying to fight both of them at once, he'd likely still be alive today."

It's not like you can't understand why Volker would choose to fight them after seeing his friends attacked like they were... hell, you wanted to run out there and kill something when you saw how horribly wounded Adrien was when he showed up at the brothel that day.

Shit, you didn't want to think about that.

"Wait, the King was suspicious of Reinhold?" Marius asks, shocked that his friend would suspect Reinhold of any wrongdoing.

A spell would've been illegal by gilbeaut family rules anyway.

Sealed king may not be a I_WIN button, but it's very serious advantage to have.

Then again, for nearly magicless Reinhold it was a good taste of how disadvantaged a pure swordsman is against a spellsword and we should expand our portfolio of spells as soon as possible before more happenings hit.
