>Don't bring kids to movie theaters
You enter the mansion via the chair as usual. Helda is sprucing up the flowers in the vases at the foot of the staircase. A simple spell that Arco taught you both, to keep flowers alive after they've been cut. She asks how things went outside, and you tell her that other than a pair of dirty boots nothing very interesting occurred. She raises an eyebrow. You excuse yourself to the lab for a while, telling her to go ahead and get to bed without you, and that you'll be with her soon. She shrugs and heads off, wiggling her hips to guilt you, as always.

You Step into the lab and start going over Arco's books and notes for any information on the Republic and its defenses. It seems most of it is located in the desert to the southwest. There are small holds in the north, but they aren't under direct control, only legal and cultural. The city you Dragged the soldier back to must have been important to be irrigated and kept so well. Arco's notes also mention that the Republic is home to a large number of mages, who started the state in the first place. The Republic's origins date back over 200 years though, and all of the people who founded it are confirmed dead. Still, it's good to be cautious.

You decide that sabotage and subterfuge are the best way to knock the legs out from under the Republic. If you keep your head down and only strike when the time is right, you can watch them crumble from the safety of your own bunker. The question is, where should that bunker be?

A) Keep the mansion as your base of operations
B) Uproot and hide out under their noses
C) Other

What locations can we set up a new hideout that is remote from both Republic and Empire control?
>>
>>29662588
You think the best idea is to leave the mansion behind for now and take up a better, closer hiding place. When you return from the lab you spend a while with Helda, and once things slow down, you explain to her the plan. She doesn't like leaving the house behind, but you tell her that if things work out you can always come back. She is still reluctant.

The next few days you spend taking stock of what you'll need to bring with you. Helda stuffs everything, equipment, comforts and luxuries into a single hand bag, an heirloom or Arco's. The bag holds more than you could ever need to bring along. Just about the only thing that couldn't fit is the mansion itself, and really the only reason you don't try is to avoid being conspicuous. Once you are sure you've got everything, and Helda is laced up in the travel dress she insisted on wearing, you both leave the house via the chair and head to the Republic.

You arrive in a dark alley, dimly light by the sunrise. People are just now waking up, and they won't be likely to notice the two of you so long as you try to stay subtle. Helda complains about missing breakfast for the trip, but you wonder if it isn't better to find a place to stay first and foremost.

A) Find somewhere to have a nice meal
B) Find a temporary dwelling
C) Appropriate a home
D) Other

We did, it was a great movie and she positively loved it.
>>
I wonder if we could uproot the mansion? It's really just a bunch of rooms, what we store in them is the important part. And since it doesn't have any doors no one will notice if we move out/in.

As to messing with the republic, all you need to do is mess up that irrigation. No water, no life.

You come to an inn eventually, a decent looking place made of genuine brick and mortar. Helda refuses to stay in any place that doesn't have heated walls, and you don't blame her. You approach the front door, but as you enter you are stopped by a bald man in an apron, who until then was sweeping the place up.

"I'm sorry, we aren't open yet and there are no vacancies. You'll have to come back later today."

When you place the mugs down, Helda sighs something about wanting a classier drink, but you assure her that local businesses need support more than large vineyards. You both nurse the drinks until the food comes: pancakes, eggs, sausage, and hashed potatoes. You're as full as a lumberjack, and Helda can't even get through all of it when you set your forks down. The two of you wipe your mouths and leave the tavern behind, as the owner still scratches his head and wonders who you were. You follow the roads up to the classier side of town with Helda hanging onto your arm. You seem to be getting a few looks from people, but after a while you realize it's nothing but curious eyes noticing your intimacy and Helda's overly golden dress.

Around noon, once the meal has been worked off, you and Helda settle on a large hotel near the center of town. It is made of white brick and is sturdy as a fort. There is even a doorman at the front beneath an awning, ready to deny you entrance. With little actual gold, you can't buy your way in, and doing so would leave a trail anyway. You think it would be better not to start too much trouble on your first day in town, and so you grab Helda by the waist and lead her away. She asks what changed your mind, and you explain that hiding where nobody would look doesn't work if you announce your presence to everyone.

You head back to the lower end of town and find the industrial district. There you two find a warehouse, locked up and boarded. The smell isn't fantastic, and the neighbors aren't great, but it'll have to do. You melt the lock off of the front door and have Helda Bar it to make sure nobody comes in. With a lot of Mending, the inside of the place starts looking more cozy. You need a short rest after all the work, and so you leave Helda to handle the decorating while you lay down and think.

Helda begins taking the basics from the handbag. She sets up a miniature lab in the main room, as well as a bedroom in the office, and a kitchen/dining room in the corner. It's not much to look at, but nobody will notice it and it provides what you need. You yourself lie down on a fainting couch that Helda thought to bring so she'd have somewhere to read while you 'ignored her'. You do feel bad about putting so much before her lately, but work isn't work because it's fun. After setting down the furniture, Helda begins drawing up the pre-cooked rituals to shield the place from wandering eyes. Nobody will see anything out of the ordinary when they look at the warehouse, but it won't stop them from noticing if they happen to find a way in. Helda finishes around 3 o'clock, and walks over to you on the couch.

Most of their talk is just mundane jabber, but you do hear many of them complaining about the work to pay ratio lately. It seems the war effort is putting extra strain on production. You hear quite a few men complaining about working overtime as well. An interesting note.

You come to a rather important looking dock with a rather important looking ship tied to it. There are men unloading large wooden crates stamped with the insignia of the Republic. If you want people to do as he wishes he should either just go right on and take down the leadership, and stop this "guerrilla sabotage" thing, there's no point to this unless he gathers followers.
>>
>>29666172
And by fear I mean Fear.

But yeah, I don't see any point to this, it'll only give them minor annoyances, unless the point is to get followers. But then there's no way of getting followers if they don't know what to follow, so he either preaches to the masses and does propaganda or doesn't do this shit at all.

Simple:
>if you want revolution/sabotage route you need to get people to revolt and join him

You're startled to find that most of them are working as a criminal sentence. They mention being given the choice between exile to an island, or working their years off in service of the government. Quite an odd sort of punishment. Others talk about the lady of the house striking the maids, and the master drinking himself into a stupor over his failure to make the President's cabinet, whatever that is. Finally, you piece together enough information to learn that the family safe is hidden beneath a desk in the study. That may come in handy.

At last you enter the house via a cracked window. The room you find there is just a broom closet, but it's the only non obvious entry point in the house.

You skitter through the carpet, bypassing people in uncomfortable clothes until you reach the dining room. It seems to be empty. The residents likely ate out tonight. You check the kitchen, and find two maids sharing a pipe and groaning about their sentences. They may be trouble. You duck back into the dining room, and see that the people here are foolish enough to leve perfectly good silverware and priceless decorations just laying around when they aren't even using it. You think that if it's so unimportant, they won't miss it.

You morph back into your normal form and start stacking up everything you plan to bring with you. You skip the glasses and flowers of course. Once it's all collected, you prepare to drag it back. Then you hear a door creak open, and turn around to see one of the maids entering the dining room. You try to think of a plan quickly.

"Whatever, just don't let them see you leave," She ducks back into the kitchen. You shrug and bring it all back to Helda, who informs you that dinner will be ready in 30 minutes. Plenty of time. You Step back into the broom closet before repeating the process again, this time finding your way to the den.

There isn't much here, just some nick-knacks. You do however find a drawer with a small lockbox inside.

A touch of Incendium takes care of the lock, but the mess it leaves behind is going to be noticeable when they open the drawer again. Still, the odds of them finding out anytime soon are slim, and you open the box. Inside is a small fortune in gold coins. You wonder why someone would keep a bunch of them locked up, until you look closer and see that they're actually buttons, from military uniforms. The master of the house must be a collector. You Drag them back to the warehouse, rinse, and repeat.

The study is located downstairs and through a set of doors. A man in uniform guards it. There must be powerful state knowledge inside. Sadly, there is no carpet here, so remaining as a spider is risky at best. One look at you and you'll be squashed. But reverting back to human form isn't a great idea either.

You follow up with a strong blow to the back of the neck and he falls, alive but in for some serious headaches. You adjust your cloak and walk in the door to the study. You kick over his chair, and tell him to give you the safe combination. He whines it, and you slide the desk aside to get to the safe. Inside is a literal pile of gold and other valuables. Most of the papers are easily traceable, so you leave them behind. The rest you pile up in your cloak and prepare to transport. Before you leave, you mark your success on the wall.

With a little elbow grease, you use your nail to carve your signature into the wood paneling of the study. You release the Shade on the fat man, and bring all the loot back to Helda. You arrive just in time for hot soup and a mission complete kiss. You eat your fill, and think on what to do with all of your gains. It would be foolish to dump it all out at once, or to just toss it from the rooftops. Perhaps there's some way to invest it.

You tell her that what you have to do is too dangerous for her to be involved in. People will die, and there will be blood in the streets before the job is done. You tell her that if anything goes wrong, you want to be sure that she isn't dragged down into hell alongside you. She kisses your cheek and presses herself up against you, running her hand across your bare chest.

"No place could be hell if I was alongside you."

For the next few days, your operations go off without much trouble. You tail the rich and loot their homes without so much as a finger raised against you. It gets easier even. It's as though they're too ashamed of their loss to even report your likeness to the authorities. But people are aware. You mark has to be cleaned my maids and servants all over town. And if there's one thing the rabble is good at, it's spreading the good word. Nobody is sure what to make of your actions yet, but soon that will change. Your stash has grown too large to ignore now, and it's time to cash in. Helda goes into town to liquidize the assets a little at a time, and soon you have in your possession nearly 110,000 gold. You slice the pile in half and have Helda sort half into small bags while you take the other half. She refuses, but you promise that if she does you the favor, you'll spend the next two days completely alone and together. With that, you head to the factories to start spreading the wealth. You rain coins down from rooftops, upon mothers and children all slaving for a wage. You rain them upon dock workers, breaking their backs to haul crates of wine and fine food they'll never get to taste. When the sack is empty, you return to the warehouse to grab the rest of the bags. You spend the night dropping sacks of coin down chimneys, into pockets of coats left out to dry, and any other crack where it might fit. It takes all night to finish, but when you're done you get to listen to the elated shouts and screams of the people as they discover their new found savings, each tucked in a bag Chalked with your signature.

You return to the warehouse tired, but smiling. You enter the bedroom and find Helda lying on the bed, half naked and displaying herself. Asleep. You feel slightly ashamed.

You continue your crime spree across the upper quarter. This time, things aren't as easy. Law enforcement is trying to intercept you, but they have no way to counter your stealth spells, and no idea of who you are or how you operate. Furthermore, none of the lower class folk is willing to rat you out. It seems word on the street is that 'Arco' has a hit out on anyone who gives up his identity. It's not true, but you aren't going to tell them that. The money you rake in goes half to the people, and half to a fund to buy needed supplies when the time comes to let slip the dogs of war.

After a couple of months, you've bled the rich dry, save for the capitol building, but you think you've got more than enough to get started.

You head up to the commercial quarter to start looking through buyers. It seems like most of the big producers are contracted with the military. Dealing with them means risking having your cover blown. Your only choice seems to be placing small orders with each of the smaller vendors to get things done. You spread the gold and order as many sets of chainmail, bows and shortswords as you are able. It will take a month or two before all the orders are ready. In the meantime, you set to gathering information on the military's capability.

It is very difficult to learn much just through eavesdropping. All you can determine after a month of wandering the upper quarter is that the closer one is to the center of the city, where the capitol building is, the more guards are present and the better armed and trained they are. One top of this, there is an entire platoon of mages with minor spells that serve as artillery. They would cut through your own forces like a cake, so you'll need to deal with them before the big day. Finally, there is supposed to be someone quite powerful guarding the president. Nobody is willing to part with information on them other than they seem to be a one man army all by themselves. It's not much information, but it's something.

A) Stay subtle until your orders are filled
B) Try to get information directly
C) Retreat to the warehouse for now

If clairvoyance isn't an option, we can always go stalk government officials, find sensitive info that they may be hiding.

>>

You decide to investigate more about the island of exiles you heard about before. What little you know about it is that most felonies are punished either by exile to the island, or indentured servitude. Most people choose to be what are basically slaves for a few years, even though it seems that the actual law enforcement system is structured to generate free labor. The island however seems to be home to the most dangerous and spiteful criminals that the state has to offer. So a perfect place to do some recruiting. You put your ear to the ground and learn about a ship that takes the sentenced to the island and dumps them out in the water off shore. It's probably your best bet at getting there.

On the appointed day, you pack up a small bag with rations and water, go a few rounds with Helda, and then make your way to the docks to find the ship headed for the island. It's easy enough to slip on board. All you need to do is confound some of the guards and convince them you're a shipwright sent to maintain the ship before it launches. Once inside, you hide in an empty barrel on the deck with your supplies and Meditate to pass time most of the way. You only pull yourself out of the trance a few times a day to have some dried beef and water.

The island is only about a hundred miles off of the coast. A few days by ship, but impossible to swim. The ship anchors about 200 yards away from the shore of the relatively small island. They begin shoving prisoners off of the side and telling them to sink or swim. Not all of them have a choice.

You keep running as the jungle behind you starts to get bombarded with fireballs, knocking over trees and setting small fires. Eventually the attack stops, and you have time to sit and catch your breath. You find a rock to sit on, and drink some water. Seems like they know someone is here who shouldn't be, but they won't risk coming ashore when the criminals inhabiting the island could take over the ship. You're safe, if only for now.

Then, from one of the bushes rises a tall and lean man with ebony skin and odd looking tattoos. He holds a rough spear in his hands, similar to the one you made all that time ago when you were arguing with Helda. You raise your weapons and tell him to stand down, but he only raises his hands in a gesture of peace. Then more men, all hairy and tattooed, come out of hiding. They seem deathly serious, but not exactly hostile. The first man slowly approaches you, hands still raised, but with no anger in his eyes. Then he speaks.

"Don't worry. I know you aren't a prisoner, and you aren't a guard. We don't want to hurt you, so long as you don't try to hurt any of us. My name is Afrikanus Scipio. This is Exile Island."
