You look at the power-up rack for something to sell Mario and Luigi.
You take a look at the weapon rack. It's covered in power-ups. On the top rack are a regular Mushroom, a Mini Mushroom, and a Tanooki Leaf. On the second rack, you see an orange mushroom with a propeller on it and a shiny pair of cherries.
On the bottom rack is a mushroom made of coiled metal and a balloon with the letter P on it.

You walk around the back of the castle and take the secret ladder up to the arena. The cobble building's walls have been completely blasted, with holes in the ceiling showing the sky above. You can see the small boat, with Snifit inside carrying the masked Lily. She waves at you as the boat floats in the air.

Kamek flies down to you on his broom. "Well, it looks like you two have a plan. I didn't expect that.Mario and Luigi are halfway through the castle. I'll signal for you when they arrive."

You and Sal wait in the room for another five minutes, until Kamek shouts out a call to action. The boat hovers in the air behind the castle, and you can hear the large wooden door slam shut in the hall. you see Mario and Luigi's silhouettes as they approach.

The ship begins to fly away, and Lily and Snifit get together in a raucous evil laughter. She's unnervingly good at it.

"They're gone?" Kamek questions with disbelief as he comes out from the rock he hid behind. "Huh. I didn't expect that to go over so well. Hmm... I guess I'll have to go tell His Rudeness and the other three Castle Bosses about the change in schedule. Do you want me to send for an airship to Bowser's Island, or do you want to stay here a while?"

You smile. "It's a nice thought, but if Bowser's telling the truth, those two have come back from the DEAD. Possibly more than once! So if w want to get rid of them, we really have to get rid of them."

"Well, don't you remember when Bowser kidnapped Mario and Luigi, and Peach was the only one who could save them? All three of them can really hold their own. And even if we could capture them all, we'd have to deal with Yelmont and Blueford! And heck, I'm sure that in a pinch TOADSWORTH could probably make a stand."

The two of you make your way down the castle, greeting all the groaning, pained Hammer Bros and Koopas on the floor with a simple "hi". You make it outside and hold your arms open, soaking up the rays of the sun.

Sal gives you a nod. "I should try this thing out. Be right back, I'm gonna have someone bring us drinks."

Sal goes inside. You stand in the sand and face a palm tree, and wiggle your fingers. As you make a swift throwing motion with your fingers, a ball of trailing ice shoots out at the coconut tree. When it connects, the ball shatters and a layer of ice forms around the tree, snaking around it like a frozen cocoon.

You fire another at the sand, and it results in a frozen patch on the ground below. You walk over it and slip, landing on your back.

There's a growing laughter coming from the inside of the castle. You look over and see a large boulder roll out of the fort. On one end of the boulder is Sal's mask, and on the other end you can see his feet sticking out. He's laughing as he rolls down the road. You flinch when he rolls right up next to you and shatters the frozen tree. He lands in the water.

You see pebbles float up and a dripping wet Sal emerge from the water to take a seat in a reclining lawn chair next to you.

"Well, thanks for the music, pal. See you later."

"It'ss not'ing, mon. Catch ya on da flipside, ya?"

You and Sal board the ship and take your seats. The Goomba shows you a cheery grin from the driver's seat. "Hey there, commanders! I'm here to take you back to Bowser's castle! Hold on, because it'll be a few hours!"

The Hammer Bro flinches at every overly happy syllable that the Goomba utters.

He stands silently for a while, but a grin breaks on his face. He wheels his steel drums up the plank. "My name be Jimbo O'Malley, nice t' meet ya mista' Koocaprio." He takes a seat.

The three of you exit the ship. You show Jimbo to the barracks, and he takes to a corner with his drums. "We'll get you a nicer room once we do your paperwork, Jimbo."

As you wave him goodbye, who would you bump into but Kamek.

"About time you two show up! Bowser's waiting for you. Follow me!" He quickly pivots around and marches down the hall to Bowser's office. Once he's outside the door, he opens it up.

Bowser glares at you from behind his huge golden desk. Your stomach turns when you see none other than Lily sitting in a birdcage atop it.

Bowser grits his teeth. "You what? You hid valuable, expensive assets of the Koopa Army for yourself?"

You can't do anything but look at the ground. There's a long, heavy silence before Bowser breaks out laughing.

"No, I'm just messin' with you! Dang Koocaprio, lighten up." he laughs as he releases Lily from the cage.

"If it was a joke, why'd you put me in a CAGE?" she shouts, her hands balled into fists at her sides.

"Because you're Peach, and I thought you'd try to escape?" He points at her with his thumb, making a dumb face at you and Sal. "This girl, yikes."

He sighs. "But really, I need an explanation for all this. What's the deal here?"

You explain everything, from when she saw Peach being taken, hiding from the Toad guard in the woods, about Broque Monsieur, the mask, and then Mario and Luigi.

"So that explains why our little oatmeal clone is dressed like a really hot wizard." he says with a grin. "Uh, Lemon, right? Lemon, go talk to the Boomerang Bro outside my office, he'll get you a room."

Lily stomps out of the office in a huff. Kamek slams the doors shut with a wave of his wand, and then Bowser's face takes on a much more serious tone. He reaches into his desk drawer and pulls out the purple, heart-shaped mask from before.

"Before I get started... did 'Bruck Monstar'---or however you say that weirdo's name---tell you about why he had this mask?"

"No, sir. He just told us that he bought it somewhere. Something about a strange man with a backpack and a pretty smile."

Bowser sneers. "I don't trust him. I never have. Kamek!"

Kamek hits the light switch and wheels in a projector. He flicks it on, and the first image there is a sepia-tone photo of a mustachioed Toad holding the mask at an archaeological dig.

"This photo was taken seventy-five years ago. Here, the legendary explorer Herman Fungiton and his team have excavated the mask from the ruins of an ancient Shy Guy civilization on Yoshi's Island.

He switches the slide. This one shows the same archaeological site. All of the dirt has been hastily replaced, all the tents burnt to ashes. Behind a crumbling wall, you can make out a dark figure.

"This is the same dig site the next morning. That had been an incredibly successful dig that had progressed for months on end. Until that mask was found, nothing had gone wrong."

The slides click. This one is a picture of some ancient Shy Guy carvings, depicting rows of strange creatures bowing before the mask. "This carving predates Toad, Koopa and even Goomba civilization. The words along the bottom read 'three sun, three moon, dark'."

The slides click again. Now it shows a tall, green lady and her short, robed, smiling apprentice. They stand above the mask, wearing genuine smiles.

"You know these two as Cackletta and Fawful. International criminals from the Beanbean Kingdom, determined to rule the world. Before this, however, they were two of the kingdom's most prominent scientific minds. Then, they found the mask and... you know how that goes. When Cackletta died, Fawful took over her business. In her logs, she says that he was always much more interested in the mask. He said it talked to him."

The projector turns off and Kamek turns his attention to you in the dim light.

He and Broque Madame were the only of their kind, but now on Pi'illo Island there are hundreds of yellow block people just like him. I've studied it, and I just couldn't figure it out until you brought this mask to my attention."

Kamek puts his arms behind his back and paces around the room.

"We need the two of you to head out and find more evidence on the mask. I've got a number of places where you could go, but you'll have to do your own investigating. You could go to Broque Monsieur's shop in the Beanbean Kingdom, go to Pi'illo Island for Broque Madame, or you could investigate Fawful and Cackletta's regime. Your choice, but you'd need to head out tomorrow."

Kamek gives you a short nod. "Yes, that makes sense. Now, they've been in the Mushroom Kingdom in the past, but the best place to find real evidence would be at their old lab in the Beanbean Kingdom. It's deep in the woods, so hopefully it hasn't been touched. In fact, Bowser's Kingdom is really one of the only places who knows where the lab is."

"Why?" you ask.

"Because," says Kamek, "Fawful used to rule Bowser's land and during that time, he kept a map of the Beanbean Kingdom.One of the marked locations is their lab."

"That makes sense."

Bowser claps once to get your attention. "Alright! So you guys will head out tomorrow, right?"

Bowser snaps his fingers. "Better! You'll head to the Beanbean Kingdom this evening and take Lemon with you."

Just then, a Boo floats through the shut door. "Sire, your princess is calling her 'huggy-wuggy'. Sorry, she... asked me to say it that way."

Bowser grins as he gets up from his desk and goes out the door. "Stockyard Shillings is working like a charm!"
