After taking a shower and getting dressed, you look at yourself in the mirror and smile. You still feel a bit beat up, but yesterday was a great day for you. You made a new friend; you kicked the crap out of some assholes, salvaged a fighter without their help, and investigated the Forest Ruins without being killed by those strange Black Zakobons.

Not everything turned out great yesterday though. Cruiser knows where a crashed ship is that you can fix up, but it needs a ton of work and it’ll take at least 40,000 Zenny to get running, not including things like furniture, beds, kitchen supplies, est.
You have 3150 Zenny from your exploits, but that’s going to disappear fast unless you can get some more money soon.

You have the whole day ahead of you however, so weather things get better or worse is all up to you.

So what do you want to do Bass?

> [A] Go check in with Cruiser at the garage, see what he salvaged from that Fighter

Eager to find out what cruiser saved from the fighter you crashed, you leave the Sleeper Inn and rush to Tom and Tom's junk store, giving the two a brief wave as you slide over the counter and make your way into the back garage.

You find Cruiser standing next to the skeletal frame of the fighter in the process of cutting it up with a large, menacing saw.

"Hey Crusier! What kind of salvage did you manage to pull from the fighter?" You ask cheerfully as you walk over to him, though you keep out of his reach in case he drops that saw.

"Mostly just metal and scrap metal to be honest, though I did manage to save a few things." Cruiser walks you over to a table and shows you what you pulled out of the fighter.

"Two heavy machineguns and most of their ammo. They were built to be mounted on an aircraft so they're pretty heavy, but they can deal some good damage and throw out a lot of bullets. I don't think you'll be able to carry these around with you, but they might make a good mounted weapon for a ship or a boat." He picks up one of the guns to show you, obviously struggling to lift the heavy weapon, and for someone of his strength that's saying a lot.

SWEET, IT TIME.

Let the 20's rain.
>>

He sets the gun down and picks up a Orange Refractor. "This is barely an A-Class refractor. Not worth a whole lot, but it could power a motor or an engine if you wanted it too." He sets the Refractor down on the workbench and points to the large pile of metal.

"I think the metal I got from the fighter shaved off 1000 zenny from the stuff I'll need to finish the ship, and I have plenty of scrap metal if I need to do any temporary repairs or throw something together for you." Crusier leans against the workbench as you look over the stuff.

"Hey Cruiser, have you seen Ira anywhere?" You ask, realizing you haven't seen her since yesterday.

"Yeah she was here a couple minutes ago, you just missed her. She went to the diner to pick us up some food, she expected you'd be getting up so I think she's going to order you something." Cruiser explains, picking up and playing with the orange Refractor.

"Isn't the Diner a bit more expensive?" You ask.

"Yeah, but not by too much. Besides Ira doesn't think it's healthy for us to eat nothing but greasy pizza. She is a doctor of sorts, remember?"

"Good point..."

>[A] Ask if Cruiser knows where you can get a boat, or if there's anyway he could build a boat.

"Hey Cruiser, do you know where I can get or rent a boat to take me to those other ruins?" You ask.

"No, sorry I don't. I tried to help last time but that just led us to Hunter. Besides renting an entire boat just to get to the island would be a waste of money, if you bought a small enough boat you could keep it and store it on the ship when we get it working" Cruiser points out.

"Well if you don't know anyone to buy a boat from...could you build one?" You ask.

"Maybe, what were you thinking?" Cruiser asks.

"Why don't you make your car amphibious? I remember this one time on this radio program there was this Digger who turned a van into a boat, and mounted grenade launchers and stuff on it. It was awesome and I bet you could do the same thing, only instead of grenade launchers you could mount the machineguns!" You say with an eager smile as the ridiculously awesome idea dawns on you.

Cruiser is about say something to defend his precious car, but he stops and thinks about it.

"Well, whatever parts or modifications I make could easily be taken off if it hindered with it's ability to drive on land too much. Now that I think about it the AE86 has always been easy to customize. It wasn't meant to be modified like this but..." Cruiser stays silent, looking between his work bench and his beloved car.

"Alright. It'll take about 1000 bucks for some special parts, but I think I can do with what I have here. Do you want to help or do you have other things you want to do? This will take a while."

Anyway, let's help. Have him get a list of what he needs, and we'll go buy it and return here. And some tarps. We'll get some tarps. Just in case it winds up not entirely water proof. Then we build.

But if the DC is below twenty, than a 20 would have been a success anyway, right? And if the DC is so high that a 20 can't beat it, than what's the point of rolling?

Maybe I'm just misinterpreting it, but making it so 20's only work on DC's below 20 seems kinda pointless.
>>
>>29634238
I guess a nat 20 would still count as a success, though it won't be something earth-shattering.

no anon, it will not count for a success.

However, stuff like stats and special rules can allow a +10 like Cruiser but with our stats....30 or 40 be impossibles.

Even with our highest stat will, we just get a fucking +4 on rolls.

kinda bullshit.

it's probably a +4 for stat and a +6 for craft, pretty high to start, but it makes sense considering his character.

Do we have to FAIL to learn anything or to be better?

I mean by bonuses is that we get jack shit for being a digger except for like a +1 in combat.

We even get the same bonus in crafting.
>>
>>29634532
Look at the rules document. We need to do spectacular things to get new talents. The degree of success or failure doesn't matter, it's how memorable the event is that counts. We need to constantly raise the stakes to make sure every encounter has an important impact on Bass. If this was a book, and you were to point out the most important events for Bass's character development, those are when we'd get talents. That's why we got a talent for resisting torture, because it was our first real taste of serious pain.
>>
>>29634532
Cruiser isn't skilled at weaponry, and Bass is a pretty good talker, which is more useful than you might think. Stealth, traps, aim, heck, strength is mostly for recoil in a setting with guns and rocket launchers. Cruiser's just higher level than us to start with, which is good because a low-level mechanic is effectively when a digger also knows a bit about machinery.

>>29634561
both successes and fails can net perks, and almost everything gives XP. The problem is that the number of 20s we rolled is fucking ridiculous, and would break the game if we seriously considered which of those would give a perk.

That what I fucking hate.

We the character get stronger, thus the GM makes the foes stronger.

Then what the point of getting stronger? What the point of getting lucky and getting the benefits?

You guys are misunderstanding me. Things with a high DC in the 30's-40's are stuff that's ether incredibly difficult to do or nearly impossible. So far you haven't ran into anything like that or tried anything like that. Once you get to a higher level, get more skills, and more talents, you'll be able to succeed in exceeding dangerous and difficult things.

You'll still be able to attempt things for experience and such, but certain things you'll want to reconsider doing due to the risk to Bass (like trying to jump a massive canyon in motorcycle).

I just don't want you guys rolling 20's and succeeding at stupidly impossible things, and then trying it again, failing, and getting Bass gored.

On the topic of Crusier, he's a Level 5 mechanic and has almost all his skills in crafting, with a little in unarmed fighting. He's untrained in using anything but simple weapons, and he has less HP then Bass because he's better suited toward combat.

>Cruiser's Roll: 22
>Success!

With Cruiser working admirably and you helping him to the best of your abilities despite never having worked on a car before, you and him manage to turn his car into an amphibious, machine-gun touting vehicle.

You and him drive it out to the docks and give it a test drive. It runs pretty well, it goes rather fast through the water and there's no leaking. Still, you wouldn't want to take it out on the sea and try to drive too another island with it. but you don't really plan to do that, you just plan on driving to something close by.

Driving it to the shop you find Ira is waiting for you with food.

"Wow! What did you guys do to the car? I was only gone for a few hours..."

"Say hello to the AE86 Type-A." Cruiser says with an excited laugh. "This baby will be able to get Bass here to those islands, and we have a couple machineguns mounted on top in case we run into anything nasty on the way there."

As for me not rewarding the natural 20's bit, I'm sorry. It's just there we so damn many of them that I realized it kind of fucked up the system I had going since I thought they would be less frequent. However I'll amend that right now. Whenever you guys roll a 20 you'll get a Talent Point. You can save these up to spend on specific talents instead of just relying on the ones you get through doing awesome/crazy shit. You'll still get talents from doing crazy shit, but in case you roll 20's doing regular stuff you'll still be rewarded for it.

Plus, at the end of every game you'll get to point out if you did do awesome shit you did and get talents for them in case I have a brain fart and miss it. How does that sound?

(Also, FYI, you guys got a talent for convincing Cruiser to make his car amphibious)

>>29634757

"Will we still be able to drive it around?" Ira asks, noting how much heavier it looked.

"Yeah, it won't be as fast on land, but I figure once we're done here and we have the ship I'll be able to modify these parts and the car to be more modular, so we can make equipment for the car. This baby will be able to take us anywhere!" Cruiser says excitedly.

The three of you sit down and begin to eat.

So what are your plans for the day Bass? Are you going to go out and start digging in the ruins you can now get too, or did you have other things in mind?
>>
>>29634747
in terms of game balance, it's fairer for perks to come from failure. I think getting a perk for being awesome is just fluff, and something to remember the event by.

we MIGHT have gotten a perk for taking apart the fighter, but it makes more sense to get that machine gun.

It's difficult to be awesome at perception, and a perk based on that will probably be for lie-detecting.

>>29635001

Then let's go sailing to the sea ruins. I don't think we'll get a chance to enter yet, but we should still scout around. The guns are mounted on top of the car, on a crude turret Cruiser put together. He replaced the roof with one he could put a hole through and mount the turret on. It's a bit hard to move around, but you should be able to attack things around, behind, and above you without too much problem. As for the gun itself you fired it off when you tested the car at the docks. It's loud and the guns have some nasty recoil, but they seem pretty powerful.

You consider going shopping, but considering you only used a single flare from the Flare gun and a little chalk you figure you don't need to resupply yet.

As you think of going to the other ruins to investigate them you talk to Ira about Hunter and what happened yesterday.

"I'm sorry about him. I ran into him a couple months ago at the hospital. He's been following me around and trying to get me to date him ever since. I haven't seen him for a while, so I figured he'd given up. I apologize that you had to waste your time with him, though I appreciate how you stood up for me. Still please don't put yourself in danger to deal with my petty issues."

"Having some butt hole like that bothering you isn't a petty issue. You're one of the first real friends I've had, I'm not going to let anyone even talk about hurting you." You state firmly.

"Alright, still, I hope he doesn't try to get back at you I'd hate for my problem to become yours..."

Yeah, that sounds reasonable. We need to maintain our stuff - fix the armor, check the buster gun, all that.
And we could take the whole team with us - Ira for first aid, Cruiser for driving and protecting the car, while we go out to explore the ruins.
>>

Ira is basically the one who serves as our Roll in terms of function. Saving our butt if we get KO'd and providing first-aid once we get out of there and also our monitor. We don't bring her in, but her being near the entrance is good. Cruiser will likely be needed to drive us there and back as well. He can also get Ira to safety if reaverbots come.

While he's repairing your armor you get a letter and some postage stamps and write your father a letting him know that you're alive, and asking about how he is, Mom, and the pendant she gave you.

Dropping it in the mailbox you return to the workshop and wait for the repairs to your armor to be finished.

You'll probably want to bring Ira long with you and Cruiser has to come since he's the one driving, but do you really want too bring Ira inside the ruin with you? To your knowledge she doesn't have a weapon and it can get pretty dangerous...

(You're not rolling for anything so don't worry)

You decide it's a better idea if Ira stays with Cruiser. Maybe once you have some more experience in ruins and they have proper equipment, then maybe you can think of bringing the gang along, until then you'll be counting on them to save your ass if you get the crap kicked out of you.

Once your vest is fixed you put it on and everyone climbs into the car. Cruiser starts it up and drives towards the beach, deciding to take the car to the islands through the longer water route to get a better feeling on how it handles in water.

The scenery is nice and even as you man the turret keeping a watchful eye out, even you are calmed by the sound of the waves and the smell of salt int he air...

As you approach the first of the islands that's supposed to have a ruin on it Cruiser slows down. "Do you want me to drive onto the island or cricle around it?" He asks.

[A] Have him circle the island so you can get an idea of what's on it.

We may find another talking reaverbot and it might just be sane.

Yes. You know that the ruin that killed those Diggers is on largest of the three islands. You're going to one of the two smaller islands to check out the ruins on them. You don't know if it's any safer on the other islands or not, but that's why you're scoping it out first

You have Cruiser circle the island so you can get a look around. He doesn't fully circle it, since that would bring him closer to the larger island, but he doubles back and allows you to see about 75% of the island. It's not very big, mostly covered by shrubs and bushes, only a few scrawny trees.

The ruin entrance is very visible thanks to the lack of foliage. It's a ridged, tower like structure that stands about 15 feet tall and has a faint bronze color to it. The door to enter the ruin seems similar to the ones inside of the forest ruin and should open without any issues.

Overall, it seems pretty safe, you don't see any Reaverbots, traps, or other structure besides the tower. What do you want to do?

You decide to leave the other towers alone and just focus on this one for now. You have Cruiser pull up onto the island and park the car under a tree in a thick batch of bushes to try to stay out of sight. Getting out you slip your Buster Gun over your arm and check your equipment, calling Ira on her radio to make sure it works.

>"Yep I can here you Bass. Let us know what happens down there OK?"

"Same goes for you guys, if anything happens up here please tell me."

"Absolutely. Good luck Bass!"

Looking up at a tall bronze tower and the deep blue sky above it, you walk up to it and enter through it's doors, ready to find treasure...

(I'm gonna set up the map now, it might take a little but since I'm using a program now, but it'll make things a lot easier for everyone.)
>>
>>29638285
This will be our running gag. Towing stuff with Cruiser's car while flipping off Hunter. Eventually he'll try digging himself to show us up, only for us to have to rescue him from Reaverbots. Neither of us will learn any important life lessons from the event, because we'll hate each other too much.

>>

I doubt we'll find something that nice in here - this place was probably already cleaned by previous diggers.
Maybe we'll find some old blueprints or old tech that we can use, or a bit bigger refractor.
>>

ANY refractor can be considered "something nice". The blue prints or old tech are a definite possibility, though, even if it's already looted.

You know, in case there's a crack nearby, the air will move and the flame will flicker.

they commonly self-destruct upon defeat, leaving only refractors. That's why non-lethal takedowns are so valuable in the Legends setting.

You're very shocked when you come to a small, dark, and empty room inside of the tower. Turning on your headlamp you shine it around hoping to discover stairs, or a ladder, and instead find a small stand sticking up out of the floor with a simple button like nub on it.

Pressing it the floor beneath you lurches and groans before slowly beginning to move downwards with a soft electric humming all the way down. Perhaps it's just your excitement but the elevator takes forever to reach it's destination. You don't have a watch, but you have a feeling it took a good 20 minutes to go all the way down.

You talk to Ira on the radio and complain about the long elevator ride until eventually it stops. Walking off the elevator platform you walk into the wall, noting that the walls in this ruin seem different, they're a light blue color, and scrawled with different symbols, lines, and glyph. You can't read any of them, it's almost like they don't mean anything at all.

To the west the hallway goes straight, shining your light down it doesn't yield anything noticeable, it seems to go on for quite a ways. The hallway to the east quickly turns into a bend which goes south. Taking a quick peak down it you can't see anything, but you can hear a faint grinding noise which quickly stops.

You decide to head west, but keep your ears listening for any grinding. You walk forward a ways till you reach a door. Opening it you step into a large open room with a high ceiling. Immediately upon entering you hear the faint sound of rushing water and look to your left to find the floor drops down into a kind of moat of water.

Looking across the room you see another moat, but you can't see the source of the water. To your west is a door and to your south on the eastern wall you can faintly see another door. Outside of that the room looks unusually empty at least it appears that way, it's pretty damn dark so you aren't sure what could be in here.

What do you wish to do Bass?

You decide it's best to head west, but after seeing the water grow curious about it's cleanliness. Got to have something to jump into to avoid explosions.

Taking out your telescopic pole you extent it and get on your stomach, sticking it down into the water to check it's depth. It's a 5 foot drop to the water from the regular floor and from what you can tell the 'moat' is about 10 feet deep. So if the water is gone it'd be a 15 foot drop onto a hard floor.

Pulling your pole back up you smell it and note the lack of saltiness, or any smell other then wet for that matter. Running a finger across the pole you dab your mouth with it to taste the water and find that it tastes fine, and is actually fresh water.

However the water is murky and you can't see what lies beneath it. You wouldn't want to chance drinking the stuff if necessary, but you feel you won't be melted if you jump into it, though getting your Buster Gun wet might not be the best idea...

Keeping your pole out you begin to move forward towards the door while searching for any pressure panels. However half way to the door you hear a splash and the sound of metal colliding with stone.

Turning around you look south and in the darkness you see what you can only describe as a metal cyan colored crocodile. Three more jump out of the water and into the darkness in front of you.

Quickly you try to remember if you've heard of these Reaverbots...

The charge Bustergun blast flies and smashes into the Firushudot's back, knocking it backwards and leaving a deep impact mark in it's armor. It's not dead yet, but another hit like that will definitely destroy it.

>Dodge

You jump backwards and kick the Firushudot with a steel toed boot in mid air, stopping it's attack and sending it flying backwards. It lands on it's back and thrashes around, managing to throw itself into the nearby moat where it does not emerge from...

Once again the room is empty and silent, save for the sound of running water and the hot sizzling of metal. You stand catching your breath as you look over your kills. The Firushudot that was hit by it's ally's attack sits, smoke coming up from it's full intact body. You can tell the internals are totally destroyed, but it's hull and probably it's refractors are completely intact. Cruiser might be able to make something useful out of this.

You turn your head to look over the Firushudot you killed which was totally obliterated by your hit, not even the refractors in it's body survived the explosion.

It was a tough fight, but you prevailed! You sit down and catch your breath, relishing your victory...

(This is where I'll end things tonight however there is the matter of leveling up and talents to deal with)

>Ridiculous Proposition: For some reason you have this odd tendency to make really dumb or unusual ideas seem very plasuble and appealing. Once a session when trying to propose an idea that is seen as ridiculous or foolish to another character, roll 1d20. If the number is odd even you will receive a +10 bonus to all charisma checks regarding that idea for the rest of the day.

>Goring Shot: Once a day +1 day per 2 levels you can double the damage of an attack directed at a weakened enemy (as notified by the GM). If the target is destroyed by this attack it's resulting death is so devastating and powerful that it has a chance to stun, berserk, or terrify enemies in the vicinity of the enemy destroyed. However the attack is also so brutal that if the enemy is destroyed by it, all loot and valuables on the target are also destroyed.

>>
>>29645099
Agility. We need it to dodge attacks and to aim more effectively. We also need LORE(Digger) because the Mechanic job to be the mechanic. We just pick up craft to do patch up jobs in the dudgeon runs and if we get stranded. ALSO CROSSWIRE, if we talk to Cruiser, do we get bonuses in craft rolls if he helps out and we can talk to him?
>>29645149
Sweet.
>>
>>29644943
..I am thinking either melee weapons, armor, or that NEAT cannon they have along with loot money.

Strength for the level up though.. goring shot would probably be useful against lots of mooks since hitting a big guy means no loot.
>>
>>29645220
A big guy might not die to the GORING SHOT and besides, sometimes, we need to put the hurt on something.

But using it on mooks for a PANIC BUTTON to clear out areas and GTFO or move to a better position is also a great way of using it.

>If we talk to Cruiser, do we get bonuses in craft rolls if he helps out and we can talk to him?

To a limited degree I guess. Cruiser is more experienced then you in terms of crafting, plus he has some talents that make things easier/cheaper for him to build. You're better off not wasting points dumping them into crafting and better off focusing on more useful skills for your role on the team.

Night everyone.

Night Cross

So what's everybody thinking? Definitely rank up Lore(Digger). What of Strength vs Agility
>>
>>29645335
Thanks for running Crosswire
>>
>>29645520
We need agility. A Digger needs to dodge attacks/avoid traps, aim better and to react faster to other stuff like sports or shit.

THAT STAT IS 10.

It average, noting special or crippling but that shit will not live for long for a digger.

We need to be faster, to have better reflexes, to see better, to REACT greater.
>>
>>29645572

>>
>>29645572

>>29645620

>>
>>29645335
great, not too late for the level up.

Strength will be for later, when we're strong enough to risk damage in exchange for taking apart the opponent piece by lucrative piece.

>>
>>29645645

>>
>>29645672
That shit doesn't work anymore man. 20 don't give automatic success.

but a 1 still gives a auto failure.
>>
>>29645693
I'm joking, really. A perk like that would be way overpowered.
>>
>>29645693
But what if Crosswire does it like Cosgrove. It the DC is 15 over what is possible with a 20 plus bonuses then it impossible. We still get a bonuses next time depending on what we were trying to do but at least don't take the auto success away without taking the auto failure away too.
>>
>>29645717
And now I am picturing this group of pirates circle strafing Bass. It's the legends version of the jet stream attack.
>>
Shit, I miss the damn quest.

Still, Going to vote for Agility and to keep the thread alive. Hopefully to have a discussion on our progression.

We need to focus on 5 STATS. STR/END/BRA/WIL/AGL due to being a digger.

INT and CHA are our dump stats. We don't need them because we are a digger. Or rather, they are not our focus. If somehow we reach the cap on the rest of the stats, we start leveling them up.

We might want to get a Face to get weapons, resources, deals, info. They be our CHA/INT/WIL focus helper.

We got a Medic focus on INT/AGL/WIL (IRA) and we got a Mechanic who is focus on INT/STR/END (CRUISER WITH WRESTLING)

We the Digger (BASS) are focus on WIL/BRA/STR (It takes balls of steel to be a fucking digger, especially how Bass manage to accomplished this) However We need to improve AGL due to having RANGE weapons rely on the ability to aim which is focus on AGL. AGL also allow us to dodge attacks, traps, get more information due to better senses and react faster like that other anon said.

STR will be useful for RECOIL on HEAVY weapons and CHARGE SHOTS. STR don't mean much after that except for CQC, KICKING and MEELE weapons like the DRILL and BLADE ARM.

END is also important because we will get hurt and we will suffer. END let us survive attacks and keep on trucking which is important due to the many many life and death battles that Diggers go though.

We just need one thing. SKILL for Shooting. For fuck sakes, get books on shooting and shit, go practice, train, get the damn SKILL to get MORE bonuses on shooting shit because that what DIGGERS do. We already got the LORE and CRAFT to survive the shit Diggers go through, now let make sure we can kill reaverbots good.
>>
>>29651099
We're well in autosage already.

Though I agree, we could use something to help us with shooting, either practicing or getting someone to show us the ropes. We have zero training in how to be a Digger, only what we picked up so far.

For the stats, those work fine, though we could give Bass some charisma as well - we did get a perk that allows him to pass on insane ideas as something plausible. Though that might only help us with coming up with plans or something, or convincing others to do what we have in mind.
>>
>>29651668
Charisma isn't the kind of guy Bass is. He wants to be the strongest Digger in the world.

He just got people who were desperate or had nothing to lose. ISA was desperate and Cruiser had nothing to lose because he going to leave the job he had anyway.

Not much on Charisma. Bravery can be use as CHA for inspiring people and shit.

What does Bravery does anyway that Will doesn't?
>>
>>29652105
Resisting fear and intimidation, I guess. Willpower is how hard you're to influence, Bravery is not to flee when a reaverbot made from humans comes at you.
>>
>>29652237
Also Pain. Remember the torture scene from Red that we got the +4 bonus due to 18 WIL but that just will power so that falls under "Influence" or shit.
>>
>>29652272
Yeah, that too. Looking over our stats, we're one hot-blooded digger who's afraid of fish.

Ah, crap, the boss in the tower is going to be a giant fish reaverbot.
