The next couple days go by quickly, with your parents fussing over you and the doctors running a variety of tests.

"I Just don't understand" The doctor tells you one day "You we'rent exactly shot in any vital organs, but you're healing remarkably quick, I've never seen anything like it. Usually it would take a few weeks to a month to completely heal, but you should be back on you're feet in a few days."

"That's great!" you almost yell "I need to get back to school. I've missed a lot being here."

The doctor explains that after you leave the hospital you just need to take it easy for a while and you'll be good as new. That probably had something to do with the spirit world helping you heal up...

After a couple more days you arrive at home.

You get the feeling you should speak to Don or Koenma. You have no idea how to go about it though...

"Don? Koenma? anyone? Uhh I wanna talk to you" you tell the empty room, and are met with silence

Several moments pass with nothing happening, then you hear a knock at the door downstairs.

"Hello ma'am My name is Don, I'm a student teacher at your daughters school." you hear from your room


"Oh, well it's very nice to meet you. Is there something I can help you with?" your mom asks

"I had heard she was released from the hospital today. I came by to see how she was doing and if she needed to sign up for any extra tutoring, or anything else. Is she feeling well enough for a visitor?"

"Yes! Im coming down, give me a minute!" you yell downstairs

"I guess she'll be right down, please come in." your mom tells Don

You fix yourself up and go downstairs and see Don sitting in your living room

"I'll give you some time to talk over your school business." your mom tells the both of you as she heads to her room upstairs

"Well, I can take you to him tomorrow if you like. Are you sure you've made up your mind? I don't know the specifics, but if you have more questions about being a Spirit Detective you could ask me."

"Oh yes, exceedingly. you'll be fighting demons and monsters, and they're usually going to be outlaws or something like that." he tells you casually

"Demons? Monsters? How am I supposed to fight that? Am i getting powers or weapons or something? I mean I don't think I can just take on monsters with my bare hands" you whine

"Yeah, Koenma gives you some stuff to fight them. you can use your spirit energy to fight them. you get some cool gadgets too." he explains

"Alright, I guess I'll talk to him about that tomorrow. Why was I chosen anyway? I'm not exactly the strongest fighter or anything, I mean I know some martial arts, but that's about it."

Don thinks about it for a second and then says "Well, we needed someone, and you fit all the criteria. young, smart, and you have great potential to harness spirit energy. I can come by tomorrow around noon to take you to Koenma if that works for you."

"Hahaha plenty." he laughs "I honestly have no idea though. you should get on that though. school is important."

"Alright, I'll get going then. lots of reaping to do, not much time." Don says as he gets up to leave "Like I said, noon tomorrow. You should be pretty healed up by then. we've been helping out with that, since it was our fault you got hurt in the first place."

"Yeah... thanks for that by the way" you reply sarcastically.

Don leaves after you say your goodbyes, and you have nothing to do. It's a Friday, around 4PM.

You decide you need some time out of the house, so you call up a couple of your friends and decide to meet them at one of their houses.

You arrive at your friends house, and are greeted by your two best friends, Ally and Brett.

"We heard what happened! Are you okay? How did you get out of the hospital so quick?" Ally bombards you with questions right away

"Whoa, I'm fine really. I'm just a quick healer is all.

"You seem different." Brett says calmly "Maybe it was the near death experience, but you seem stronger somehow."

"Huh? Stronger? like how?" you ask "I did have a weird run in before, but I don't think it was anything major..."

Ally looks puzzled before asking what Brett is talking about

"Well, I don't exactly know. I just feel like you're different is all... anyway, where do you want to go? I was thinking the mall. maybe watch a movie." Brett offers

"I wanna get some food. besides, we need to go over what you missed at school, and I haven't eaten since breakfast."

You and Ally both agree and the three of you head to the sushi place a few blocks down.

When you get there you order a few of your favorite rolls, Ally and Brett offering to pay since you just left the hospital. you graciously accept, and they explain to you all that you've missed during your trip to the hospital

"Well, looks like I have a lot of makeup work to do... that's not going to be fun." you say

"Don't worry, we can study together tomorrow at my place." Ally offers

"Hmm... I don't know about that. I kind of have plans already" you say

"Huh? A date? who is it?" Brett asks

"I never said it was a date!" you protest

"Then what are you doing tomorrow?" Ally asks you

He is a Prince, right? He said his father was the King. Wait, all the legends say King Enma is a big demon guy, an ogre of some kind...does that mean Koenma is going to be an ogre when he gets older...

Well, he was charming and that is important, and he ages so slowly that it probably won't be an issue for as long as we'll probably live...or post live, or otherwise.

You sigh and look up at Brett

"Fine, it is a date... sort of..." you admit, not completely lying, remembering what Koenma agreed to.

"Who is it?" asks Ally "And where did you meet him? the hospital?"

before you respond, the food gets here, and you hope they forget about the whole date business

"So where did you meet him then?" Brett asks in between bites

Damn it they didn't forget...

"Uhh..." you start "I met him before the accident. I told him we would go last week, but then the whole 'gunshot' thing happened."

You hope they believe your lie this time...

Brett stays silent a moment before telling you to be careful and changing the conversation to schoolwork

After your meal, your friends walk you home and head off on their way to their own homes. It's getting fairly late, but you don't feel particularly tired

You decide that you'll look up some info on the spirit world if you can find any. unsurprisingly you find very little on the subject besides theories on if there is an afterlife and what it would be like, etc etc. You do find some mythology that describes Enma, which sounds like Koenma's dad from what you've heard.

Since that was probably your only good lead, you decide to look up more about East Asian mythology, and feel like you familiarized yourself with a good amount of myths and legends. by the time you look at the clock, It's already past midnight. you decide to sleep and get ready for tomorrow.
Your parents let you sleep in, thinking you need the time to recover from your injuries. You wake up around 10, and you have plenty of time to do something before getting ready to see Koenma.

You decide to do some more research. you were making headway last night, so you sit down at your computer and look up different creatures and monsters that you might have to face. Koenma and Don said you would be fighting this kind of stuff, so It would be useful to be able to identify anything that comes your way

As you;re deep into your reading, you notice the time and realize Don will be over in 30 minutes! You have to get ready!

You run to the bathroom to shower and think over what you're going to wear. You still hadn't decided what to wear when you get out, so you stand there naked in your room looking at your closet and you hear the doorbell. no one else is home, and It's probably Don so you should go answer it.

"Lets go then, we're on a schedule" he says, motioning behind him

You decide to just go with him. You probably should have been quicker getting ready, but it's nothing major now. you take his hand and the next thing you know, you're in Koenma's office again.

"There you are, I've been waiting. come over here, let me explain your powers and we can get you out of here quick." Koenma says in a rush. He's in his toddler form again "We have something you need to take care of right away

"Whoa, wait I still Haven't even told you if I accept or decline yet! and you have something for me to take care of? like a case? already?" you reply

Koenma just looks at you "We already know you were going to accept, now lets get this show on the road!"

You had already thought about accepting the position. You had done all that research, you were planning this out ever since you got out of the hospital. Plus, you don't think you could decline even if you wanted to.

"I accept" you tell Koenma "But I'm gonna need to get paid for this. I could use some money

"I'll think about it" he replies, motioning for you to come closer

Great, you might not even get paid for this...

"Now look, you already have a high potential for using spirit energy, you just need to learn how. It's actually very simple. Just focus on utilizing your energy. My favorite is the spirit gun. Focus your energy to the tip of your index finger"


You do as he says, and your fingertip begins to glow

"Good. now pull the trigger in your mind and the energy will fire. Don't do it yet, there's no where for it to go here. save it for your case."

You power down your spirit gun and look at Koenma

"What's this case about?" you ask him
