We're using some kind of longsword, so maybe a style similar to Germanic? Taking on lancers with ease would be explained, but then getting close and grappling would be part of our repertoire if so.

French? Or maybe some kind of bastard style wherein we only use one of the sword's edges? Coming close-but-not-quite to saber and katana styles of cutting?

Because all this is important, considering the 16th C. Germanic manuals focus on circular handwork and parrying while Reinhold just uses streight cuts and smashes the enemy's weapon.

What I'm saying is, with our particular style, we might have an easier time using a single-edged heavy cutter like a messer or a falchion.

I could definitely see Reinhold being experienced with getting close and grappling. He doesn't seem the sort to consider anything off-limits in an actual fight, he's probably had experience brawling during his time as a soldier, you can't sword every problem you have, he has a lot more experience soaking up getting smacked around than most so even if we end up trading blows we'll generally come out ahead.

Obviously we don't try that sort of thing against and opponent like Sir Vincent or King Theirri, but against a more delicate opponent like Monique it could give us an edge.

Also, we have a longsword, longswords are a lot more effective when half-sworded than a saber is. In general the closer we are to Monique the better off we are, he's at his best when he has room to dance around and use his full range of motion and slashes with his saber.

Reinhold does use straight cuts, and there's a good number of those in German fencing, and he ought to have a very firm understanding of taking the shortest and most direct lines of attack. We're a bit more brute forcey than Monique, make use of that by beating his guard away which should keep him on the defensive.
