I decide to pay attention to our surroundings, and make sure nobody gets the drop on us. If that thing's half as valuable as Rin implied, then we need to be on the lookout for anybody that might even suspect we had it.I feel a sudden tugging sensation at my side, and look at see that at some point she grabbed my hand. Looking at her face though, she seems just as startled.She blushes and looks away.... and for the first time, I mirror the movement. Did I do it without noticing? Did she? Both of us at the same time?We keep our hands locked, fingers intertwined for the rest of the way home. I almost expect Saber to turn around and catch us at any moment, while at the same time wondering what the hell it is I'm getting so worked about? So what if I'm holding hands with Rin. I'm holding hands with a cute girl my age. There is nothing wrong or weird about that at all.Yet Rin's standing next to me, equally unsure of herself, and it seems almost like we're both hoping for someone to attack and force us apart. Like neither of us wants to be the one who ends it, but neither of us want it to continue.Or stop.Despite our extreme paranoia on the way home, no threat materializes to justify it along the way, and we make it to the house unmolested. We finally break contact when Saber begins to turn back to check that we weren't followed as we reach the house. As Rin passes her, I see her raise a single eyebrow in my direction as her eyes go from my face to Rin's back before giving a theatrical sigh that seems to freeze my blood.She knows? I CARE that she knows?What's gotten into me all of the sudden?I shake my discomfort aside as I walk into the house, and find Ilya chatting with Sakura and Rider. Sakura hesitates when she looks at me, and looks away like she's not sure what to do. Rider seems as still as a statue, but I also don't feel any tension from her. Ilya just seems like she's resigned to the situation as a whole.

I relax, and slowly I start to drift into the dream. The arguments and arcane discussion go over my head. But I see....I see something. A bearded man. He looks.... I stick my hand out and focus on the mental image, placing my other hand on the table and feeling the various bits of jewels, incense, Rin's blood, and other magical components. I can see the sword, and how it was connected to it's wielder. I couldn't copy it perfectly, not with borrowed eyes. Even my eyes aren't perfect.But this.... It would be good enough to replicate the effect if I could do it. And it being less powerful wasn't really a worrying factor when it's power was already infinite by it's very nature.I reach out, and close one eye. I allow the pattern to form. The way I'm doing it now is.... odd. I can use my magic to shape it, and something of the alchemy Rin taught me to give it actual form with the materials she provided.Quite brilliant really. I wasn't able to see the form before, but now that I can.... I can give her exactly what she wanted.With a bright flash, the ingridients are sucked into the projection and I use the part of Rin's magic she left behind to bind it and fold it into itself.Power. More than I've ever used, and more than I ever held seems to be forming around it, and suddenly.... the power starts to swell from within too. Swelling and filling in an impossible way that seems to go on forever.And then it ends, and I set the sword down on the table.Ilya and I stare at each other for several long seconds, and then I wrap it in a bundle of cloth and go sprinting to Rin's room.[ ] Wake her up gently. "Rin, we did it."[ ] Knock on the door. "Rin, You need to see this."[ ] Slam door open. "Rin, I accidentally the Second Magic."

I respond looking at her. "I don't really understand what this even does. All I know is trying to gauge it's power is like trying to measure how bright the sun is.""It has potentially infinite power." She answers simply. "Think of it like this, there's an infinite number of parallel worlds out there. This can draw on magic from all of them.""What.""So, imagine there was a version of Fuyuki where there were no mages. There's nobody using that ambient mana. So it takes from there and brings it here.""I built a transdimensional portal with my mind after looking at a picture of one." I say slowly, finally comprehending what Rin asked me to do. "The mages association is going to freak out.""Normally something like this would get you a sealing designation." Rin concedes, looking at me. "But we can just lie about it."".... What?""Well, I mean, my family has been secretly working on this for a long time. I'll just tell them I inherited an almost completed puzzle, not a half finished jumbled mess." She smiles. "Actually, this would probably secure me a lifetime membership and a decent scholarship besides that. I could even bring you and Sakura in by claiming an apprenticeship." She starts smiling. "This could almost set us for life."
