You take a moment to absorb this information; the way Diana put things, there’s more than one layer to the digital world, and more planes are endangered than the one you’re on. Or...something like that. And-

“Yggdrasil? You mean, Yggdrasil. The World Tree. Norse Mythology. Odin and Thor and Loki and all that?” You ask, a bit thrown off. You were under the impression this world ran off Greek or Roman mythology, but Norse? Diana looks at you oddly, and when you look to Venus for a (hopefully) clearer answer, the love deity nods, her expression a bit more serious.

“I understand there’s much you don’t yet know about this world, either of you. But put simply, Yggdrasil is...the pillar upon which every single part of the Digital World is built. It sustains our lands, our lives, our very existence. Without the World Tree, there is no Digital World. And as Dianamon has said, it is the Tree’s sickness that we believe to be the cause of the calamity that has befallen us.” Her explanation isn’t quite enough- it’s not that you believe she’s lying, but you need more information than that.

“When did this happen? HOW did this happen?” You ask, but before Venus can answer, Jupiter speaks up, all jovialness gone from his echoing voice.

So I've got a theory for what we can do, and I'd like to hear what everyone thinks.
One of the reasons the digiworld has not been doing so hot with the whole "everything is rotting away" is because the evil digimon creatures (devimon and so on) havenot taken an active part in helping fight it.
The reason they haven't is because the Seven Demon Lords are all gone - it'd be like expecting everyone among the Royal Knights acting when their leader is gone.

So I think one of the things we're going to have to do, is get Sally to become Lilithmon, and get her to the nightmare soldiers and start giving out orders.

This will also be a test for Aslan, since he'll have to accept someone he'd think of as evil making the situation better (which also fits with his 'character arc', going from a "stick up his ass" Paladin type into a proper hero who isn't judgmental).

And it will all also justify our own actions when we told the three gods that we didn't want Sally changed in any way.

“The Royal Knights. That’s who you speak of.” And just like that, the mood turns sour across the table. Mars growls, and slams one of his fists down on the table.

“Those self-righteous bastards wouldn’t help us when Mervamon fell into the chasm, nor did they answer our calls for aid whenever that accursed Titan and his army attempted to lay siege to our mountain. Yggdrasil’s Guardians? Hah! They’re guardians of nothing but their own asses, so far as I care.”

I know that when a digimon dies, part of them goes back to a city where they turn into eggs. From what I remember about Adventure 3, some of the dead digimon is "eaten" by whoever killed them. Is there anything left? Any pieces of data left behind, corrupting to nothing or turning into Bits? Are there Bits or any form of currency in this setting? Do they have an intrinsic value, like turning into HP Disks or whatnot?

Ah, taking some from Digimon World, huh?

Well, in this setting, there IS currency, but only in certain areas. Some settlements have no need for it, some have their own kind, and others shun it for their own reasons. Currency is Bits, but they're not the remnants of dead digimon.

And the rules of digimon "Death" still apply here: when you die, your digital "soul" is sent to Anubismon who sends you back into the cycle as an Egg. Devouring code from a dying digimon can cripple them in their next "life", and devouring it all removes them from the cycle until YOU die, at which point both of you are released back into the cycle at the same time.

Dying in a Dead Zone, however, interrupts the process, and is a complete game over. That's it.

Now, it’s Sally who looks at you in surprise, unease in her expression. You give her a reassuring smile, and she bites her lip, before nodding slowly. You breathe out a sigh you didn’t know you were holding- if your partner had disagreed with your choice, you’re not sure what would have happened. But just to be safe…

You pick the Digivice back up, and turn to your left, where Venus is watching the two of you, a gentle smile of her own playing across her face.

“If it would please you.” You say, echoing yesterday’s phrase, and her smile only grows. The goddess of love looks over to Jupiter, who seems to still be thinking.

“What do you think, Jupitermon?” She asks, her own hand hovering above yours. Jupiter hums in thought, his eyes closed, before they open slowly, and he nods.

“Let us speak with the Sovereigns Four.” He intones, his voice deep and serious, but with just a tiny hint of hope to it. “Venusmon, if you would?” Your newest friend picks the digivice up, before opening it. You can see the reverence she has for the object in the delicate way she handles it, as if the slightest mistake would somehow taint it or its holiness. Then again, that might be true; you have no idea, after all. Finally, after what seems like ten minutes of her pouring over the device, Venus hits one final button, and then places it back on the table, open. You’re about to ask what she did, when a bright burst of light shoots out of the screens, hovering several feet above the table and your heads.

But even more surprising is that there, in the light suspended above the digivice, is a dragon. You don’t really have anything to judge scale by, but you get the feeling that he’s enormous. You can’t read its expression very well, but then again, it’s a dragon. That there’s any sort of expression for you to read is a miracle in and of itself. The dragon looks about, proving it can see at least part of your surroundings, before something akin to a satisfied smile settles onto its dragony face.

Quite the brave pair you picked out, hm?” The dragon- Azulongmon- shakes his long neck, chuckling to himself knowingly, before growing more serious.

“As good as it is to see a friend still amongst the living, Jupitermon, it would be best, perhaps, to focus on what comes next.” The dragon looks to you and Zoe in turn. “You have done well in opening this channel, though the ordeal is not yet over, or even truly begun; your fellow Chosen are still in need of guidance, and you have so much more to accomplish.” The dragon’s eyes narrow. “But beware the Knights. They who once swore to uphold justice have turned a blind eye to so much within this realm, I do not know if they are deserving of trust any longer. Fare thee well on thy journey.” With little warning, the transmission ends, and you’re left staring at the digivice, sitting there on the table.

“He told us to seek out his apprentice,” You begin, “But he never told us where he could be found, or where to start looking.”

Your host doesn’t answer at first, but when he does, his voice has taken a displeased tone to it.

“That brat of a smith left Vulcanusmon’s tutelage long ago...just after I shut the gates. The last we saw, he was heading to the north, though his destination remains unknown to us.” He sends you a stern look. “Even when he was Vulcanusmon’s student, that whelp was trouble. Seek him if you must, but know that his impudence has likely grown since we last saw him. He’ll be a difficult one to speak to.”

Deciding to move on, you nod a tad nervously, and then change the topic.

“And where would we want to start if we wanted to find Yggdrasil?” Then, after a moment, “Or avoid that Titan Mars mentioned?” Jupiter merely shakes his head in reply.

“To discover Yggdrasil’s location, you need one of the Knights to guide you, or for Yggdrasil’s own will to make it so. The first, even now, is more likely. And as for the Titan…” The golden god trails off, and it’s Marsmon who answers in his stead.

“The Titan doesn’t have any defined territory- he’s a vagabond of a warlord. The only thing to do is hope you don’t stumble upon him, or the other way around. And if you do, don’t fight him.”

The leopard- headed man lifts part of his mask, revealing a massive, jagged scar over his brow, running down the side of his head.

“Unless you want to end up like this.”

You feel some of the blood drain from your face, and, shaking despite yourself, nod, before allowing yourself to be ushered away by Jupiter, Sally following close behind, and Zoe and Aslan after her. You notice something Zoe does- a glance back, nothing more- but dismiss it as nothing. You yourself look back, and manage to give the rest of the pantheon a wave and grin before you lose sight of them.

Jupiter takes you back to the main path, around the building he and Neptune destroyed, but not to the gates. Instead, he stops right in the middle of the road, and gestures for you and your friends to stand in front of him. Looking down, you notice a faint circle in the marble- almost invisible, but there. As he steps onto it, the crack in the stone begins to shine gold.

“This is a method we who live here use- much faster than the stairs, and not as dangerous, either.” He looks at the four of you. “Are you all ready?” Before you can answer, though, he lets out a great yell of “GOOD!” and stomps once.

And then you’re falling.

You’re barely aware of Zoe’s screaming, or Sally’s laughter. Or Sally’s arms around you. Or your own screams.

Neither were you aware of just how high up Olympus actually was.

Oh god...s? Gods? With so many, you don’t know what you’re supposed to say anymore.

But holy crap, you’ve been falling for a while now.

And then, just like that, it’s over. You didn’t even see the ground approaching, and neither did you realize you had stopped. Somehow, your body wasn’t mangled by the deceleration. You’re assuming god magics.

A quick check of your surroundings confirms that you’re at the base of the mountain, and that the rest of your group plus Jupiter are present. Not very long, though, as the God cracks a few of his joints and steps off the platform.

First thing’s first, you need to find your….friends? Daniil is at least an acquaintance, and not a hostile one at that. He and his friend are both Chosen, so you feel that you at least should figure out where they are.

“First,” You mutter in answer, pulling out your digivice and opening it “I’m going to find Daniil...and then we’ll figure out where to go after that.” You open up the menus, which you still can’t read, and select the map. Well, it seems Venus didn’t do anything to it that you can see so far. Well-

..huh.

You don’t remember there being four markers on this map before. Neither do you remember there being so many cleared spots. You’re not sure which marker is which, however.

For now, though, one is around a day’s travel from where you are, though you’re unsure which it is. You yourself are west of where you entered the mountain.

With your friends in tow, you set off to the south, intent on finding another of the Chosen.
