YOU ARE LOLI,

You made it to the meeting point some twelve hours late, to find your contacts being held hostage by a group of bandits. One quick rescue effort later, and you'd freed the two surviving captives, the bag of medical supplies for the Doc, and left a pile of bodies that didn't even know what hit them.

Before you could make your getaway, however, the rest of the bandits returned home, so you tried to sneak out the back exit with your team. As the last one out of the building, you're harrying the slower rookie ahead of you across the road to safety. Just before you make to the clear, however, the rookie trips.
His hand jerks as he hits the floor. And his shotgun fires.

Crap.

The gas station behind you erupts into shouts and movement. You look back to see a figure appear in the doorway, pointing at you. "HERE! They're over here! Crossing the road to the Nor-"
His alert is cut short by the report of a single rifle shot from the ridge, and his brains ejecting violently from the back of his skull, painting the shocked man behind him red.

[ ]Help the rookie.
[ ]Leave the idiot.

AND

[ ]Run. Just run. You've got what you came for, you just need to get out of there.
[ ]Fighting retreat. Lay covering fire and leapfrog away. Don't give them an easy time if they try to pursue.
[ ]Turn and counter-charge. It's the last thing they expect, and you're a miniature daemon when you get into close-quarters, after all.
>>
Well this is earlier in the day than expected...

Help the rookie and make a fighting retreat. No stealth left so might as well do it rather than charge into an unknown number of fresh hostiles.

>>
Help the rookie. We're still trying to be nice, aren't we? Go for the fighting retreat, we have a big team right now, they just need to realize they can't touch us and they should forget their loot. If they don't give up, try to capture one for interrogation.
>>
>>29430930
You can see a lot of movement, hostiles spreading out to attack you over a wide area around the station, as well as through it. You're definitely outnumbered, but they're attacking through an area with not a fantastic amount of cover while you're the only member of your team not hunkered down and firing back.

One bandit tries to make a run along the road next to the gas station straight towards you, but is taken clean off his feet when he's met by a hail of bullets, a delighted squeal of "Got one~!" from Kris, already in position on the ridge.

You reach down with your left hand to grab the rookie's arm, whilst raising the looted pistol towards the gas station with your right. The rookie looks up at you with something verging on complete disbelief as you haul him back to his feet while firing off rounds at the doorway housing the shocked red bandit, trying to keep his head down.

I brought this up in a previous thread, but without much response so I'll bring it up again. I think we should seriously consider keeping the name Giltinè, at least when dealing with most other stalkers. It has a lot of fear associated with it, but it is a powerful legend, and there's no reason we can't reclaim it and turn it from a force of indiscriminate death and destruction to, well, discriminate death and destruction.

Your shots go wide as you try to fire on the move. So wide, in fact, that the man you're trying to suppress regains his senses, and takes careful aim before firing at you from the doorway. The shots take you square in the chest, punching clean through your armor vest. You feel more than hear the crunching sound as they meet your ribs, before you crash back into the soft earth. You idly wonder if it's that thing called adrenaline, as you realize that it doesn't actually hurt.
The rookie, to his credit, reacts instantly, reaching down to try and haul you back up in turn, until another round finds its mark and blows through his arm. He screams in pain as his arm goes limp, going down to his knees.

You can hear the gunfire building on the ridge behind you, turning into a furious storm as your allies fire everything they have trying to help you out. You can't see how effective their shots are though, as your entire being is focused on the man who just shot you, and his comrade who has just moved up beside the building to also aim straight at you.

The only cover anywhere is a small clump of rocks on the side of the road between you and them. It's your only chance.

You roll to one side as the next burst of gunfire tries to finish you off on the ground, then throw your weight into the kneeling rookie, trying to shove him with you into cover. You both tumble together into the rocky outcrop as yet more rounds go flying overhead.

You cough, struggling to get air into your lungs. The rookie hasn't moved since you hit the ground together. "Hey. Hey, you okay? Hey, mister!" You wheeze as you roll the lad over, trying to get a response, only to find a pair of lifeless eyes staring back up at you, a few tidy little holes through his chest, soaking his jacket in blood.

Damnit! What did you get all shot up for if he was just gonna go ahead and just die like this?
You slump back against the rock, and just wait. You're pretty much completely pinned down now, bullets continuously chipping flecks of rock above you as more bandits spread to either side of your cover. The gunfire from the ridge hasn't stopped, but its no longer a furious hail, just a few scattered shots while a brutal storm is thrown back the other way.

"OI, BITCH! ANTON SAYS HI!" You idly look back over the rock to see what the commotion is, and see something small and black falling straight towards you.

The thing is coming straight down at you, so it's only natural that you'd hold your hand out and catch it. You stare at it for a few moments, before it sinks in that you're holding a live grande. With a squeak, you toss it away from yourself back towards its owners and duck behind the rock. It's barely cleared the rock before it detonates, spraying your position with shrapnel. Nothing hits you though, that you can feel at least.
Well, this is turning out to be a great day.

"OH," comes the voice again, "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST DIE?!"

A few moments of silence, even the gunfire ceasing momentarily, "IF THAT's HOW YOU'RE GONNA PLAY IT," a chorus of clicking. And then the sky is filled with little black balls.

Right. That's it. You've had enough. First, he calls you a bitch, now this?
"DIE?" you scream back, as the balls fall around you. "DIE? ME?! I'M MOTHERFUCKING GILTINE, BITCH!"
One of the grenades plinks off the rock, rising again to a perfect level directly in front of you. You put as much power into the spin as you can muster, and kick it hard. It sails straight over the fence back into the gas station. You don't have time to wait to see what it does though, as five more grenades land on your position. You've got seconds to live, and in those seconds you see your way out.

A groove in the land, a tiny scar starting just down the road from you, increasing in size as it stretches around the hill to become a gaping chasm underneath the gas station.
Two men have apparently been using it for cover, though one of them no longer has a face and is slumped back in the trench and the other is still recovering from having thrown his grenade at you. You hurl yourself down the hill, tumbling through the air towards him. He gives a cry as you crash into him, both of you smashing into the ground. You ignore him though, pulling yourself back up and sprinting towards the chasm. With one more exertion, you leap into the hole as the world is filled with noise, the grenades going off behind you (and in the gas station).

>something came up, brb 20 minutes. Sorry.

It's a long drop to the bottom of the chasm, but fortunately there are plenty of little formations of rock jutting from the walls which break your fall (and a few of your ribs) multiple times on the way down. You roll pretty much clean across the entire length of the chasm on your way down, eventually crashing into the roof of an abandoned car, which appears to have fallen into this crack in the land whenever it opened, what with how its front bumper is pitched deep into the ground, and the rear bumper is resting steady against the back wall at a near 45 degree angle. As you finally slide to a stop on its bonnet, you take a good few moments to catch your breath and asses the damage. Well, you try and catch your breath: it's coming in shallower and more painful wheezes, and almost feels as if you're not breathing at all. You're really struggling to suck in anything at all despite the quite heavy heaves your chest is giving.

As you remain, staring up at the sky, you can hear distant voices of the men cursing and asking where you've gone. The gunfire has ceased entirely, so presumably your team has left you for dead and left already.
Well, good. At least they're safe, right?
A couple of faces appear to be peeking over the edge, and calling that they've found you. Just as they appear to be taking aim to finish you off, however, a rolling thunderclap fills the air. All the faces jerk to look up into the sky. A few more shouts, almost panicked this time, and the faces about-turn and disappear from view. The sky almost seems to be turning red above you. The rolling thunder doesn't seem to have stopped. You could almost swear you can hear an air raid siren sounding in the distance. With each passing heartbeat, the thunder seems to be getting louder and the sky a darker red.
>>
>>29432536
You pull your eyes away from the site to asses your own surroundings, and find yourself at the bottom of a rock cavern, with as far as you can tell only one way out: a small cave-like tunnel leading God-knows where.

Your impromptu rest break seems to have drained your adrenaline now, as you can finally feel the pain of the many scrapes and bruises from you fall, as well as the mind-numbing pain from your ribs, and the stabbing sensation in your chest.

You rummage about inside the bag to see what you have available. The vast majority, you have no idea what it is or supposed to do and you ignore it. A small collection of items, though, you bring to the front. You're not certain of what they do, but they look like the sorts of things you've seen on TV, or been treated with in the past.

There's a box of pills that you'd recognize anywhere, standard over-the-counter pain relief. It'd take ten minutes at least before they kicked in, and basically do nothing for you bar dulling some of the aches. Other than that, there's also a pair of medication injectors and a bag of some sort of powder. The first needle is white capped with red, and the writing on it is vaguely familiar-looking, but it's in western text so you can't read it. You've seen these sorts of things in the war movies, the stuff they give to the guys with horrible gunshot wounds. A glance down at your own chest reveals a definite excuse for you to use it on yourself right about now. There's also an ampule filled with a clear liquid, blue capped with yellow. You've seen stuff like this used on people who are literally just about to die in TV shows, and they usually stabilize pretty well after that.
The bag of powder has a hand-written label on it, but it's been badly smudged by your bloody fingers. You can just about make out the scrawled "TACTICAL C-", and some instructions on how to use it. They seem to suggest that right about now would be the ideal time to take it.

Well, you know the pills. You've had them before. They might suck, but at least they won't kill you if you get them wrong. You pop a couple into your mouth and try your best to swallow them. You don't have anything to chase them down with, so it takes a few attempts to get them past your gag reflex. They're quite big pills for a small mouth. They're not going to do anything for you for quite some time, though, and you need to get moving. Reluctantly, you pull the bag back onto your back and drag yourself into an upright position. A jabbing ache in your lower stomach as you do so alerts you to a quickly swelling bruise, and the absence of your trusty pistol from your pants. It must've fallen out on your rather rough decent. At least you still have your newest looted weapon firmly in your grasp.

Staring into the mouth of the cave, it's very apparent that you can barely see ten feet inside before the darkness prevails. A thin layer of fog blankets the floor, which will make any sort of progress tough over difficult footing.
You still have your torch handy on your headband, but lighting it up would definitely alert anyone or anything that might be in there to your presence.

With no idea what may or may not be waiting in the dark, your instincts scream at you to leave your lamp off. You take a few unsteady steps into the maw of the cave, just as the storm above seems to be reaching its climax, the air being filled with fire-like light. The noise and light are shut off from you pretty fast as you breach the mouth, though, and you're left fumbling in the dark for anything that could guide your way. After the first time you stumble and almost topple over, you decide it would be best to simply stick to the ground. On your hands and knees, you crawl through the darkness, attempting to follow the line of the wall to keep some sort of direction. After a few dozen meters, the ground slopes downwards. With no other prompt, you follow the curvature deeper into the earth. Somewhat further in, you stumble into a dead end, and have to trace the wall back until you find another, tiny tunnel that you'd missed the first pass. With no other obvious way out, you pull yourself in and crawl through it. It's a struggle. Between your labored breathing and the excess of kit on your back, you really have to push yourself to get through to the other side, another larger cavern judging by the way the air gives way and feels less thick on your face.

You're a good ten minutes or so into crawling about before you admit to yourself that you're completely lost. There is absolutely nothing in the darkness that would clue you in to where you need to go. This trip is definitely taking its toll, and you can feel your mind start to grow fuzzy at the serious lack of oxygen. It feels like you're drowning. As if you've been breathing half a mouthful of water with every breath for the last half hour.

You stop to lean against the wall, once again trying to catch your breath in a futile struggle.
As the quiet darkness settles about you, the fear starts to set in.

You're underground in the dark, battered and bleeding, drowning in the air. And lost.
>>
>>29433444
As you sit, breathing growing more rapid though no less shallow as panic starts to set in, you hear a faint rustling of clothing, of flesh on rock, of something crawling along the tunnel you came in by. A low moaning fills the air. A smell of blood and rotting flesh fills your senses. It's close.

You can pinpoint the thing's location easily enough, by its ragged breathing and low moaning. Which means it, also, likely knows exactly where you are. It's pretty much directly in front of you, stopped at the mouth of the tunnel. You can almost feel its eyes boring into you despite the darkness. It's waiting for you to make a move.
Slowly as you can, not to disrupt this stalemate, you lift your pistol to aim at it, and reach for the switch on your torch.

The thing illuminated by your torch is a man. Or, was a man. Waring a gas mask whose pipe is swinging freely in the space before him, not connected to anything. The mask is pulled up to reveal his mouth full of bloody teeth more reminiscent of a carnivore than a man. The mask is far enough up that it seems the eyes of the ex-man are covered. There's no way he should be able to see from behind it. Then again, in a dark environment like this, who needs eyes? What flesh is visible under its ragged, dirty clothing is ripped, bloody, swollen, almost seems to be rotting alive. Its entire body tenses the moment the flashlight comes on, as if preparing to leap forward and devour you. And you're pretty sure it would, with little to no effort, with you in your current state. But that's moot.
Because the moment you flicked it on, you opened fire.

You squeeze off a round into his big, ugly face, making him reel back. Then squeeze another into his mouth with an invigorating amount of blood spraying out behind him; a few more into his chest for good measure result in a ear-splitting cry of pain from the thing as it topples forwards out of the tunnel. And then you keep on squeezing into the thing as it hits the ground, rolls to a stop, and continues to twitch only as your bullets enter its body.
You keep squeezing, even after your pistol runs dry.
>>
>>29433781
Even after you know full well it's dead, and you can achieve no more. You keep squeezing the trigger. A small part of you knows it's the lack of oxygen to the brain. You're pretty much dead now. You keep squeezing. Your body has given up trying to move. You simply sit here, wheezing, keeping the torch fixed on the dead being as your pistols clicks empty at you cycle after cycle.

Even with the torch on, the world seems to be darkening. The only light in your vision is that reflected from the corpse before you.

Curiously, you think you can hear something. Someone calling for you. It's... Momma?
I'm... I'm here, Momma. Here in the dark. Please, Momma. I'm sorry. Please help me.
You can't even see the corpse any more. There's nothing but the dark. And she's there. Right there, in front of you. So close you could touch her.
She looks you up and down, concerned, before smiling forlornly at you. "What are we ever going to do with you, Loli?" she asks, in a voice that isn't hers. You tell her you're sorry, and that you'll never do it again, and she giggles at you, her reddy-pink hair bouncing with the motion.

Pink hair?

She holds something to your chest, and tells you to relax.
You feel something pierce the skin on your chest.
And you can breath.
>>
>>29433881
Light returns to your vision, the world comes back into focus. Kris is kneeling before you, smiling happily about something, her hands on your chest. Looking down, you see she's holding some sort of hollow needle deep in your chest, her other hand on a valve seal on the end of the tube. It's merrily blowing air out of your chest cavity as it becomes steadily easier and easier to breath.
Once it stops its blowing, she closes the seal and beams at you even wider.

"Man, you really had us worried there! That blowout took us by surprise, too! When we finally managed to get down here, we just couldn't find you!"
Behind her, Vasilisa is passively scanning her torch around the cavern, watching all the entrances for any more visitors.

[ ]Ask what she just did.
[ ]Ask about the other rookie.
[ ]Tell her it's time to get out of here.
[ ]Rest for a bit.

Take some time to calm down and maybe small talk some to ease the tension.

You tell Kris that you want to just sit here for a minute and catch your breath. She frowns at this. "That's no good, Loli! Can't be resting in a place like this! Ah, here, it's fine. You can rest." It's alost surreal the way her expression is always so bright, despite the situation. She fiddles with you stuff for a moment, before tossing the medical bag to Vasilisa. "Here, Vasa, carry this for me. I've got her." And without further ado, she lifts you up onto her back. "Hold on, we'll get you somewhere safe in no time!"

Vasilisa makes a noise of acknowledgement, and moves away into the shadows ahead, clearing the way before you.
Kris starts humming a song you can't quite identify as you drift into a restless sleep on her back.
