Hello /tg/. Recently I've had a very interesting gaming experience and so here I am, wordforging another one of my annual storytimes. Gather 'round for this is a tale of interesting sights and ideas, of a decent game soured by OOC slights, of gamers good, bad and awkward.
Also, this is a general storytime thread too I guess.
>>
So there was freezing rain a while ago. It built up inch thick ice on the trees and power lines, which promptly began crumbling like crackers. This left my area without power. For days. I had quickly burned through all of my battery powered devices to keep my entertainment forges filled, sitting under all of the blankets I own to preserve heat. I'm a modern day cyborg, completely tech dependant so when my three laptops, two smart phones and three handheld game consoles ran dry I was subjected to two torturous hours of no digital distraction. Then like the trumpet of a tech angel shitty landline phone rang. This was one of those gray breadl oaf dealies that draws enough charge from the phone line to power the bell and thus requires no other power source. After briefly considering whether I could somehow rig the phone line up to power my USB devices, I picked up. It was Smoky, my chainsmoking GM and probably best friend. He greeted me with a cough and proposed us meeting some people I've never seen before for many hours of tabletop gaming. Sweet distraction! I agreed. An hour later he rolled into my driveway and I hopped into his car, muttering a prayer to the combustion engine gods and their sweet sweet boon of interior heating.
>>
He gave me the briefing. He was contacted by some of his old LARP and Vampire colleagues who proposed spending the weekend gaming. They were a somewhat elitist bunch by the sounds of it as they required him to bring a 'champion', a skilled and experienced roleplayer to game with them. Apparently I qualified. Smoky is 8 years older than me and he got into the hobby at an earlier age than I did so I was pretty excited to meet some of what I mentally described as 'TRUE' gamers - I guess a better term would be old school. The car's heaters were working at full blast so soon the interior of the vehicle filled with man stank, both of us having been without power or hot water for the last 30 hours. I colonged up as dictated by the life hack guide for men's personal grooming. We went North, away from civilization. The freezing rain was worse here.
We reached a large house in a really old neighbourhood. Soon we were ushered inside by a young woman. She was pale, wearing a black dress and black lipstick. Combined with black hair it made her look like a vampire LARPer in full Lasombra getup. She was almost as tall as me and I'm not a short guy. She had a very pretty face with attractive angular features but everything below her chin turned to blubber - a kind of reverse butter face. I'm going to dub her Bodybutter or Butter for short.
>>
Regardless she was very friendly and energetic. Smoky introduced me, we shook hands and went inside. The place was curious, definitely the home of geeks. There were a lot of hand-made furnishings and everything was composed of wood, stone and cloth but the most striking thing was the smell: candle wax, wood smoke, and something spicy and fruity. It turned out to be a whole battalion of regular, scented and aromatherapy candles burning all over the house as well as a proper fireplace, for warmth and lighting. They had no power either. As we deshoed and disrobed I noticed an older man conversing energetically to one of our hosts. The guy looked like a shop teacher. Stout, sturdy, mostly bald with thick glasses that were kept in place by a string, bearded. This guy wasn't going to be gaming with us but he made an impression. As I understand it that was the owner of the house. He turned to the door, greeted us, said something along the lines of "You kids have fun." and began dressing to leave behind us. The young man he was talking to greeted us too.
>>
The young man was huge- taller than me and easily more muscular. I'm pretty certain I've seen him around the FLGSs before but never with long hair and pointy goatee. He'll be called Bjorn. Bjorn led us past the stairs and kitchen, through a narrow hallway and into the den which took up most of the first floor of the house. The fireplace was here and in front of it a semicircular sunken crevice of some sort with a huge round wooden table surrounded by three couches and two arm chairs. The majority of the candles were on the table or on the floor around the depression. There were two other tables around the room and plenty of space. Dice, sheets and game pieces were arranged upon them. There were also two new faces, a familiar guy and a strange... person.
The guy was on the short side, broad but skinny, looking like an awkward teenaged Jack Black. He was all soul patch and pimple scars, wearing a rich crimson button-up shirt and a headband with fox ears sticking out. I heard a lot about him since he was one of the best friends of one of my best friends. No accounting for taste. I had also gamed with him one miserable time. I had a sneaking suspicion as to why he had been deemed worthy of an invitation or reference to this supposedly elite gathering of only the finest players of adult pretend. He didn't recognize me but he seemed happy to see us.
>>
The stranger in the woven wool hat was new to me and also one of the most strikingly unsettling people I've ever seen. A gangly, withered half-corpse of veiny pale skin, sunken cheeks and bulging eyes. The details that truly slam-dunked me into uncanny valley were the lack of eyebrows and the pursing cherry-red lips. I guessed it was a chemotherapy patient but throughout the game session I noticed thin black hairs on their hands and knuckles and peach fuzz on the upper lip and a straight chestnut brown ponytail peeking out from behind the cloth cap. Also, that voice. A quivering, reedy half-whisper that sounded a little too low to be feminine but in no way masculine either. As a sort of immersive audience participation feature I'm not going to reveal this person's (hereon Referred to as Chemo) true gender until the point in the story where I learned it myself. Introductions were made, I narrowly resisted weird stares and dodged all use of any pronoun.
>>
Bjorn and Butter separated smoky and I. They were going to co-GM this game and they were to lead us through character creation. I got butter.
We took the table by the window and began. She poured herself into the seat across from me and began to explain the system. It had been Fudge or Fate, once. We were to use fudge dice, but most everything else was prop-based. There were counters and cards involved, most of them cue cards. The character sheet had no stats or numbers written on it, resembling a freeform profile skeleton. She showed me a crude map of the setting and asked me what sort of place my character would be born. More back story questions followed. I wasn't feeling all that inspired so I went with a variant on what I usually played in my teens, a quick and nimble rogue with a heart of gold. I liked playing cunning and physically capable, mobile characters, whether they were good at combat or not. I can get clever and creative with physicality.
>>
After the fluff was done with, I got to learn how crunch works, and it was hella interesting. There was a thick deck of Aspect Cards, colour coded and thick. They were made of a thin, hard plastic similar to credit cards in composition. There were 6 types, dozen or so copies of each. The aspects were Might, Agility, Magic, Awareness, Charm and Leadership. Aside from the cards there were elemental combs, little plastic hexagons that looked 3D printed, each one decorated with a classical element and tiny glass beads in all sorts of colours. Everyone got to pick 8 aspects to define our characters' capabilities. This crowd was big on arts and crafts.
Character creation came with a few further rules: only one aspect may be stacked to 3 and by sacrificing a card one may either have a second level 3 aspect or be allowed to increase a single one to 4, both rules to allow but punish min-maxing. Each hero also got to specialize in one aspect, receiving a shiny and fancy card of that type to represent this fact.
>>
Butter told me that we were were to play Heroes of the classic definition: Men and women unbound by fate, using their power to change the world as they saw fit. We were to clash in many ways with many other mighty forces and possibly each other and through our efforts determine the fate of the setting. I dug that.
When the dust of creative effort settled my hard imagining work took the shape of Usiliy of the South. I went with Aladdin and Sinbad for archetypical inspiration (I've never played any of the prince of Persia games that didn't run on DOS).
>>
This character isn't one of my most memorable or most creative but I have a soft spot for him, enough for gush for a while. I'm going to try and greentext all of the backstory posts for your convenience so you can skip over them if you like. You're welcome.

>He was an orphaned street rat scoundrel who eventually found work in the palace orchards due to his monkey-like climbing skills. One night Usiliy had upset the orchard master and the man tried to shackle him down with the slaves. Usiliy was having none of that and he ran his 10-year-old ass away, eventually getting lost in the palace grounds. He climbed a wall, trying to find a high place to stay safe for the night and ended up on a balcony. A well-dressed long-bearded man arrived and began to call him 'Your Highness' and then fussing about his awful attire. Then another boy arrived, dressed in much finer clothing but otherwise appearing identical to Usiliy. Turns out our hero was a dead ringer for the Sultan's only son! And so Usiliy got to spend the next years living the high life as the prince's doppleganger and bodyguard in training. This lasted until an evil vizier (it's always the vizier) framed him for the theft of a wondrous gift that was meant for the Prince's bride to be, claiming he was jealous and wished to replace him for good. I figured since this is a fantasy setting and all this Vizier is a chick.
>>
>She had the guards drag Usiliy in front of the royal court, interrogated him and sort of scratched up his face with magically ignited fingers when he dared deny her accusations, marring his face and ruining his perfect likeness to the prince. Usiliy escaped in the night since his execution was scheduled for the morning. The prince let him out (I try to write cool stories for my character backgrounds, not dodge cliches like some kind of literary bullet hell), tears in his eyes. He was upset that Usiliy who had become his best friend over the years had betrayed him and he commanded him to flee and never return. Unable to cope with the overpowering feels, Usiliy did so, stowing himself away on a small ship that was leaving harbour in the night. Lo and behold, this was the vizier's private craft, crewed by her hirelings and lo and behold, the royal gift was there, hidden in the hold. Being a bit of an emotional coward, Usiliy never managed to gather the courage to return with the truth and evidence.
>>
His aspect loadout was 2 Might, 3 Athletics, 2 Charm and 1 Magic, aligned to Earth, Wind, Fire and Water in that order (We had the option to align our aspects with the little elemental pips to provide them with flavor, settle tiebreakers and swapout options). Butter liked my character and said he'd fit in famously. We decided that he had been kicking around this Northland for a few years and knew what's up.
Smoky finished up his own character. From what I overheard he was playing some kind of knight-turned-warlord who was attempting to retake a kingdom from a corrupt ruler. He went with Arthurian legend and Chinese mythology as sources of inspiration which he also defaults to. Perhaps days without electricity freeze up a digital gamer's creative juices but it seemed that we were thawing nicely.

There was a knock at the door. Bjorn went to open it and ushered inside two more faces, one strange and one awfully familiar, both of which I eagerly went and investigated. I came back, nudged Smoky and the both of us came and stared. A leather trench coat over a few layers of hoodie to ward off the winter chill, a red headband keeping the greasy black hair out of his pimple-scarred face, and a back pack half as big as his gawky 5'5 self - I referred to this guy as Asshole in a story time from years ago, but this time around I'll call him trench. He looked up from his undressing and made eye contact with Smoky and me. I awkwardly waved. He awkwardly waved back. Things had suddenly gotten a lot more uncomfortable.
See, a few years ago I gamed with Trench. The game was run by Smoky. It was a survival horror game which he played like Dark Heresy: Operator Edition and I managed to thwart his PVP boner with luck and cunning. The resulting manbaby ragesplosion drew the ire of Smoky's norm roommate who manhandled Trench out the door. This was the first time I've seen him him since.
>>
Nevertheless, she was here, he was here. They got in to be worked over by Bjorn and Butter's character creation progamme while the rest of us were gathering around the round table by the fireplace. I noted a black pot hanging high above the fire and the thought of hot food made my mouth water. The whole place was fascinatingly rustic. Hardwood floors with drop rugs, wool tapestries hanging from the walls, a lot of hand-crafted wood carved eveything. There wasn't anything so obtuse as shields, coats of arms or decorative weapons, the place had more of an overgrown cottage feel than that of a wannabe castle. I couldn't see into the back yard since the window was covered with half an inch of ice but I could make out a lot of frozen foliage. The place felt homely and unironically quaint. I busied myself with these thoughts while avoiding eye contact with everybody lest it spark a conversation. Smoky doodled on his sheet and began to fidget, obviously getting the cravings but unwilling to leave the warmth of the fire.
>>
He hopped out eventually. I decided to bite the bullet and engage in some smalltalk and forward scouting, sliding up to fox-ears soul-patch. The conversation went a little like:
"Whatcha playing?" I asked.
"Some ninja chick, lol" He replied, actually saying lol.
"Oh."
I knew this guy as you might recall. I knew his MO. It was very simple you see. Anton has only one character. One character he wants to play, one character he cares for. One mary sue 'my alter ego' with creepy kitsune ERP lore. And he plays this one character very very well. This isn't Big Boy Blue-level obsession but that does not help the fact that if he does not get his mary sue into the game SOMEHOW with ALL of his backstory and lore he loses all cares and just rolls up a roleplay equivalent of one of those disposable Japanese fuckable ramen cups, a seeking missile aimed at the heart of the campaign. He has said in the past that if he doesn't get to 'really roleplay' he's just there to troll and accumulate lulz. What was on Anton the Antagonist's sheet was not his kitsunesona.
>>
Troubling, but not important. He'd pull his lolrandumb shenanigans and get his character killed early or ignored indefinitely I figured. I was about to move to interact with Chemo when Trench uttered the words.
"No one could make it so I just brought her."
Dick.
Insufferable dick.
It might just be a personal thing but to me dismissing someone is the ultimate form of disrespect. You can ignore them, ridicule them, outright rag on them but acting like they are beneath contempt or consideration - verbally acknowledging it in their presence like that - is the worst verbal insult. To me anyway. My inner white knight was bubbling with lukewarm fury already but there was a cute girl in nerd peril. Sometimes I can't help myself.
>>
The girl seemed unfazed as if she didn't hear his remark at all but Butter was taken aback briefly. She flipped her hair and continued to work with him on his character. Smoky came back, our newcomers completed their dramatis personae and joined us as the round table. Everyone set up their sheets, Bjorn placed a wooden bowl full to the brim with fudge dice and tiny beads near the middle of the table, Butter rolled out the bare-bones setting map. A few candles were commandeered to give us light by which to read. Trench picked up the pretty girl's messenger bag and plopped it down in front of her face with the clunk of heavy electronics hitting hard table through canvas. I remember grinding my teeth until my cavity hurt.
>>
Please continue, sir.
>>
go on...
>>
(I've typed up most of this in a fit of inspiration and creative energy while a power flicker had slain my router earlier today, I've pasted all I had written up and it's long past the point when I should have went to sleep.)

I've had a while to regard everyone present at the table across the day an night of gaming. I'll take this moment to describe them, starting with Smoky who sat directly to my left. He and I go a ways back. He's not a very old guy, still in his late 20's but he looks like he's fast approaching 40. He's not very tall or stout but he man is carved from aged oak fired in cigarette ash. He's a great GM and the heavy air of misanthropy he exudes is but a front, a mask to hide a heart of leathery gold. He let me crash at his place often and I've poured my heart and soul out before him on many a troubled occasion so we've bonded as brothers in spirit if not in blood, and I am willing to follow him into any roleplay hell. He sports a fashionable dirty blond bedhead, matching stubble and bags under the eyes. Sir Lionheart The Bold is sporting two fight, three leadership, two charm and one athletics in aspect cards, every single one of which is fire aligned. Smoky can do subtlety and art, he just does not much care for them.
>>
Well you're making my morning, so far. It's been rough.

Don't quit or Bel-air, please and thank you.
>>
Come on OP, you can't tempt me like this and then take 20 minutes to submit each chunk.
>>
>>29409385
It's going to be okay, anon.

I hope.
>>
>>29409385
Thaaaat's sort of my regular MO when it comes to these. I promise I'll try to hurry up but I am going to try and do the story justice. I'll be going until I crash. Luckily for us, I have absolutely nothing better to do today.

In the next spot counter-clockwise sits I. 6'2" mesomorph with a leonine mane of wavy bullshit and an aquiline nose (ladies) sporting a fashionable skin condition and powerful B.O. under enough exotic gift basket colonge to choke it out mostly.
Next was Anton, with 3 Charm, 3 Might, 1 Magic, water-fire-wind. He was making small talk, grinning and laughing and being downright wonderfully amiable except this was a sure sign that he was going to try and bomb this session. It was as if he was trying to saturate the session with non-seriousness. I remember noting that his breath smelled of skittles.
>>
Beyond Anton sat Chemo, creepy and baffling. This individual looked like one of those hairless cats but with crazy watery poultry eyes, probably suffering from some form of glandular problem. I'm no doctor. I didn't note hisher cards until later but they were something like 3 Charm, 3 Magic, 2 Leadership - Nothing physical or combat oriented. Earth for charm and Water for magic, and something else for Leadership but definitely no fire elements. A beautifully sketched portrait of a androgynous long-haired elf in regal but stylish attire was laid in front of Chemo's aspect cards, like an anime bishi rendered in a more western comicbook style. Oh, and it insisted on being called by character name even OOC.
>>
Trench had piled his cards up into one stack and was looking around at everyone else's arrangements. Did I mention that this guy had a bone-on for winning at story games? Between him and Anton we were going to have a jolly old time it seemed. I was prepared to arrange a sort of preemptive strike force with Smoky to take them out before they caused trouble but was becoming That Guy to thwart That Guy worth it? These are the kinds of philosophical quandaries you deal with when in the presence of people you hate. Anyway, joke's on him, I could still see the colours of his cards before they faded to white at the edges. Three Might, Three Magic and one Leadership. I couldn't see his elemental hexes.
Next was the girl, sitting on the edge of the semicircular couch array with her arms wrapped around her midsection, shoulder and back hunched over her character sheets as she read her aspect cards, mouthing the words adorably. I remember thinking that she looked like she was cold pretty much all the time. She was stick thin and taller than Trench, dressed in a zip-up forest green sweater and faded jeans. She had a slight overbite, thin cupid's bow lips, a tiny splash of acne scars that complemented her freckles - and she was my type through and through. Then she looked up, catching me in the field of vision of one of her eyes and gave me the most baffling stare for a few heartbeats. I tried to smile but she looked away before I managed it. The first time she spoke I dubbed her Luna.
>>
Luna had taken the curious approach of picking up one of every Aspect with two Awareness cards with a whole medley of elemental alignments. Awareness remained unaligned. She was also doodling on her character sheet.

Beyond Luna in the first armchair sat Butter with her legs folded up onto the seat, strongly resembling a lumpy Reese's Kiss in shape. Among her cleavage nestled a pentagram necklace. It lacked amber or jet. Despite my jabs at her attire and body type she was a downright decent person and adequate GM. For the most part.

In the next seat was Bjorn. Okay, I kind of have a bro crush on Bjorn. He was a swell guy, only mildly unsettling. I've only ever seen him play warhams, magic and one game of Deathwatch around the FLGS and back then he struck me as some kind of gamer equivalent of a jock most of the time. Also, he let his younger brother cruise around in a top hat and teashades which I count as a point against him. Now he seemed like a different person, sporting a pointy blond goatee, about 30 pounds of new muscle and a sort of poise and nobility that wasn't present there before, looking for all the world like some kind of modern viking. Turns out it was a brief stint in the military and a fresh fondness for recreational fencing. We were currently gaming in his uncle's house. Bjorn brought a kind of visceral energy to the game and really sold the narrativist simplicity of the system as real action with real consequences.
>>
So, they make the intro. We're fed exposition about the setting. In these times of kinstrife among the Frostlands' clans and kings an evil lurks and builds strength! Kingdoms will fall, new leaders will rise, the fate of the world hangs in the balance! And skyrim will also have white walkers I'll bet. I watched Luna out of the corner of my eye. She was chewing on her sweater's plastic zipper as she watched Butter gesticulate, totally engrossed in her sort of upside-down L shape looming over the table.
"DOVAHKIIN!" Anton cut in at the climax of the intro sequence, hiccuping a laugh. The chucklefuckery had began as scheduled.
>>
Keep it going OP, I've got nothing else to do. Love dat characterisation.
>>
Butter began the game proper, introducing Usiliy and Anton's character as they are returning to the region by boat. They wake up below deck and right away we are told to roll our 'Spirits' for the day. Basically, we get to pre-roll our aspects' potencey at the beginning of any new game day. We can use that roll to automatically beat challenges or we can opt to sacrifice what we have at any point and roll the dice regularly. I remember getting a really high count on my Magic while my Attack was in the negatives. Bjorn told me to count it as a 0 and handed me two red XP beads - they were called something else but they were basically your standard XP/Fate Point matter. He told me that Usiliy was feeling uncertain and open-minded about combat today. Butter asked us how our characters were waking up and to describe and introduce them.
>>
I am fucking terrified that OP has fallen asleep at the keyboard.

Come on man. COME ON MAN!
>>
>>29410104
Have faith in the OP, young one.
>>
>>29410104
Some storytiems just are a bit slow. I for one will check again in a few hours, as stories are more fun to read in one go.
>>
The Aspect cards. They are basically our character sheets. On them were drawn three rows of die-sized squares, each beside a stylized emblem, the top depicting a hand and fist representing Aggression, a meditating figure representing Planning and a shield with an eye on it to represent Vigilance. Each section had a collection of verbs describing what what that meant for every aspect, like Might's planning being about tactics and feinting while Magic's planning weaved enchantments and drew summoning circles. We had to distribute our rolls between these three sub-aspects, some going empty were there no positive rolls to apply. I was sitting with major plusses on my Magic's aggression and planning and I don't recall what else I had at the time aside from a small boost to Charm's aggression.
And then Anton began to describe his ninja catgirl starting with her double D's.
>>
Gentlemen, please advise. Should I write up another chunk and post it in one go or keep the story trickling? Also, I've hit a wall. Should I caffeine up and continue with the risk of my writing deteriorating or take a nap?
>>
>>29410294
Depends. If we're over the halfway mark, I'd caf up, if not it might be better to take a nap. If you do, we'll try and get a capper on hand so you've got a pic to recap from next time.
>>
>>29410294
Keep going. Quantity and quality should go hand in hand - post-nap you probably won't have the energy.

A hot drink of anything should help a fair amount - take a few minutes to eat, drink and move around.

As for delivery - your call. Chunking is just very slow but big trickles.
>>
Though if you're genuinely knackered, nap.

And Iv just dozed off waiti ng for replies. I think I'll sleep for now. See you in a few hours.

I think that the Captcha system was at least partially broken, because I refreshed until I got a comprehensible image, pored over it with the eye of a fucking hawk, and carefully checked each letter as I typed it just to be sure it matched, and it STILL failed.

OP returns! Was Chemo's name not a clue to his/her gender? You said you were introduced.

I bet boy because of black hairs on hands.

Nalestrae isn't exactly a gender-specific made up fantasy handle.

Ohhhh. You said they wanted their character name used OOC, but I assumed that was just from character creation onwards.

And even the doodle was androgynous! It was like they were doing it on purpose!
>>
>tfw no OP and you're going to sleep soon
>>
>>29415877
The drawing was of a feminine male, but definitely male as my keen anime-watching eye spotted from a distance. That and Chemo referred to the character as a dude when he was introduced.
>>
>>29416299
Shhh, I'm right here anon. Just warming up before another storytelling session. It will still be here when you're back.
>>
>>29416364
p-promise...? It's only 10:40 actually, maybe I'll stay up if you're gonna be around.
>>
>>29416336
That actually makes me think Chemo was female. Girls love bishi. But I'll still say male because of the hand hair.
>>
So. She's a catgirl. She was raised in a ninja clan as the only catgirl having been found wondering the forest.
Luna chimes in with a quiet "We can play nekos?" But she's suddenly sharply silence with a shush from Chemo. The shush was quick and hateful but Chemo put on a creepy toothy smile right after to show that it was all in good intent. Chemo's just a sack of juicy awkwardness.
Anton went on, describing how she was searching for her one true love who came to her in a dream. As he described her mission he calmed down and got all thoughtful. For a moment I dared think that maybe he found a character that he actually enjoyed playing that was no his mary sue.
>>
Posting to help avoid autosaging.

Also, good story
>>
OP, what's Luna's hair like? I apologise if this is a weird question, it just seems like an important detail to me.

>>29416981
Auburn and frizzy if you recall. That's the 'halo' OP referred to when she had just arrived with Trench.

My turn to describe Usiliy and his appearance came. Having just reached proper adulthood, he's a rakish rogue who uses his skills to accomplish dangerous odd jobs for mad cash, usually being a sort of bodyguard ninja or super thief. It's decided that catgirl and Usiliy had worked together on an infiltration job for a local king, having just stolen the egg of a phoenix and we were to cash it in. Our boat docked and we came on to snow-powdered land dottered with evergreens to be greeted by a mysterious woman. Then it was the next pair's turn.
Luna and Smoky were introduced together probably because they were both knights. Smoky's character had been waging guerrilla warfare against the usurper while Luna's character is more like some kind of a fantasy P.I. or inquisitor from a neighboring non-hostile but unaligned realm there to suss out the truth of the events transpiring locally. She meets him in a tent, her character disguised as a messenger and travelling alone. She stammers while describing her outfit and appearance but the moment Smoky greets her in-character she puts on her IC voice, strong and convincingly genuine. They hold a totally organic conversation, one of many such between them this session, neither of stem stammering or pausing to think about what their character would say. It was brilliant, a true display of Smoky's roleplaying skills and Luna's amateur talent. They were both awarded a bead of numen to their Charm aspects for such impressive roleplaying.
>>
Next up were our last pair of Chemo and Trench, polar opposites. Chemo's bishi elf was an ancient court wizard and adviser to the benevolent royal family of Archon, a powerful and enlightened kingdom far to the North. Archon had apparently given refuge to the barbarian clan Trench's magezerker had sworn revenge rampage against. Oh Trench. He described his character as a "Huge, buff guy with two axes and spell tattoos on his head and around the eyes. Oh, he's dressed in furs and mythral chain mail. And a squad of drow snipers swore their lives to him."
>>
>>29419428
>A squad of drow snipers swore their lives to him.

Riiiight. Can't wait to see how this goes.
>>
So Bjorn sets the stage for thme. They're in Chemo's private palace court and Trench is tasked with presenting his concerns to the elf.
"Wait you're a high elf?" Trench observes.
"An elf."
"My retinue would probably shoot you on sigh, just saying."
Chemo chokes up and stares wide-eyed at the dual GMs, seeing if they'd make the call. You see, Chemo is the sort of person X-Card was created for.
"It doesn't have to be like that in this setting." Bjorn proposes.
This stumps Trench long enough for Chemo to snatch the spotlight and start making niceties at the dark elves who are represented by Butter. They exchange traditional greetings and Chemo expresses sorrow at their choice. We establish that dark elves are sort of like Eldar aspect warriors, dedicating themselves to a path in life so that they may act. The elven flaw of the day is passivity.
Trench eventually accuses Chemo and all of Archon of siding with the kinslayers and blood traitors. Chemo replies that a hearing will take place to give the other clan a chance to present their case. Trench is having none of it and decides that he's going to see to them himself.
"I've got to stop him oh no how can I stop him?" Chemo exclaims anxiously and as verbatim as I remember.
>>
Butter asks "Well, what do you try to do?"
"I try to talk him down." Chemo begins, getting into character voice. "You've got to have patience if you want to find the truth. Spilling anger on the suspected is not the proper righting of the wrong that has been done to you and yours. Violence is never the right answer!" Chemo said the last line with a tense, shaking fist not quite hitting the table.
"Yeah, fuck that I just move on." Says Trench.
"Hold on, roll Charm against each other. Nalestrae's Aggressive, Trench Vigilant." Ruled Butter.
Trench didn't have a prayer between a poor roll and a total lack of Charm aspect. He was assigned 'Demerit Tokens'.
"I was HURT with WORDS? Social skills can't affect players!"
"Looks like they can affect characters." Smoky mumbled.
"It's something high Charm can do." Bjorn explained to him.
"It was a good argument and you're in doubt. Maybe it's worth waiting to see what they have to say for themselves? Anyway those will only apply if you choose to go against Nalestrae's advice and enact your revenge."
"Fuck this, if I knew that's how Charm works I would have rolled up a diplomancer and made you all fight for me." Trench muttered. Bjorn and Butter had refused to let him read through the rules pamphlet until after his character was done.
>>
So Trench stomps off to find his enemies anyway and as he declares his actions Chemo begins to make this awful quiet back of the throat whine and rub its wool hat nervously and no amount of staring is making it stop. Smoky is clearly tweaking out from his nicotine urges. We take a break.
The bathroom is quickly occupied, Smoky fucks off to smoke, Bjorn checks the pot simmering over the fire (and making me lust for the hot food within), Butter and Luna disappear somewhere and I'm left alone with Chemo. A short while of fiddling with my game props and I have to ask.
"So, are you okay?"
Chemo nods.
"You seemed upset."
"I abhor all violence." Chemo said in the slow, careful, soggy tone of a special ed teacher.
"Well, it's just imaginary."
"Violence isn't welcome in any of my worlds!" Chemo declared, pursing those granny lips and giving my two Might cards a cold stare followed by a twitch of a bony finger. I felt like I was moments away from being targeted with a Death Beam.
Oh boy.

I fled to the kitchen to avoid more awkwardness and found Luna just sort of standing there in the corner between two counters. I gave her a smile.
"Wow, that was some good roleplaying back there."
She mumbled a "Thanks."
I parked myself nearby, within arms reach of her and noticed a scent. She smelled bad. Rotting cloth, like a dirty towel. Even the most depraved musk fetish deviant would have a hard time getting off to this. This wasn't BO so much as dirty clothing.
"You smell nice." She choked out awkwardly, catching me off guard.
"Thanks. You too."
Hnnngh.
She left without a further word, going back to the game table.

Everyone drifted back to the table, settling in front of their sheets and cards. The GMs handed out cans of soda and blank cue cards. They explained.
"Come up with a magical artefact to include somewhere in the game world, draw it and explain what it does."
I went for the gift my character was framed for stealing. It was a magic censor that would calm angry spirits with its smoke. I explained that the princess Usiliy's lookalike prince was to marry had haunt issues.
Trench chided me for being so stuck up my own literary ass that everything had to do with my character's backstory. He promptly introduced a gem that shot lightning and controlled dragons and he was supposed to be its rightful heir.
>>
I gotta give butter an bjorn props for this so far. I would totally play in this game as it is, but let see how it ends.

>Trench chided me for being so stuck up my own literary ass that everything had to do with my character's backstory. He promptly introduced a gem that shot lightning and controlled dragons and he was supposed to be its rightful heir.
I want to play with Trench. Pretty sure he was born out of the actions kids and teens took in Oblivion and Skyrim, namely being murderhobos, as I'm picturing him as a sort of downs-syndrome dovaahkin.
>>
>>29421933
Actually, I missed an important moment. Before everyone got back I as milling around the Den when Chemo and Anton had a bit of a conversation. I overheard bits and pieces.

"What's wrong? You're not roleplaying on the level you usually have."
"Bjorn insisted that I play a whole new charater." He shrugged. "Just trying to have fun."
"You said this is [mary sue]'s fated love?"
"Sort of. She's a little bit like she's supposed to be I guess."
"Maybe this is the world where she was sent? Can you roleplay her like she's supposed to be?"
"Okay, I'll try."
It was almost touching.
>>
>>29422764
If it was not for the severe dislke of violence I would want Chemo in my group. Better that then the 420swag that hangs around us, but tha is for a different thread.
>>
Smoky came up with a briar crown that marked one as the lord of the wood and gave them authority over plants and fey. Chemo made up a giant glowing orb whose light made anyone caught in it more rational and sympathetic. Supposedly it was mounted on the highest tower of Archon castle. That explained why they were so enlightened and chill then.
Other items included a magic sword and a bag of demons.
I drank the soda, sweet nectar of the waking world, and soon we were ready to game again. The spotlight came back to Usiliy and ninjacatgirl. The woman approaching us was Butter's self insert, a powerful gypsy enchantress and adopted royalty of the Night Fey (not to be confused with the unseelie or fucking horror demons that these things ended up being).
She greeted us, told us her name (I forgot) and informed us that we mustn't try to return the phoenix egg to the king who hired us as he had been dethroned by malign forces. Instead we should seek his royal sorcerer who fled the coup.
Usiliy is unnerved by these events and revelations as she is not fond of royal advisers or magic women.
>>
>>29420293
They refused to let him read the rules until after chargen? That's kind of dickish. I suppose they did it to prevent minmaxing?
>>
We set off on an alternative trail to the the one we intended, having to pass through a glacial mountain. It's not kind on our characters both of whom were described as wearing skimpy and practical clothing. We reach what looks like a wayside inn and desperately pile inside. Usiliy decides to make an impressive entrance since he has a good roll assigned to his Charm's Aggression. We find the inn mostly barren, furniture piled into the corners away from the front, old blood stains everywhere and a huddled shaggy figure by the fire wrapped in a coarse cloak. Butter informs Aton that his catgirl can see dark wispy shapes moving in the corners above by the ceiling. Apparently catpeople can see ghosts in this setting, sure. She informs Usiliy as much just as the figure dramatically rises to its feet. The spirits rush at ninjacatgirl and she backflips outside to face them on open ground. Usiliy draws his sword and stares down the huge muscular hairy man.
"Supper is here!" It growls in Butter's excuse for a intimidating manly growl. She hands the reigns to Bjorn who grinned broadly at as Butter continued with Anton. Chemo put on a thick set of headphones and hummed tunelessly to drown out the fight scenes.
I requested more details about the huge man's appearance and they were provided. Suddenly I knew. All that hair, those beady eyes, those huge fangs - He was a bear!
>>
That wasn't all. I looked carefully at Bjorn and lo the too was a bear! A huge grizzly seated in the arm chair, ripping the leather to shit with his huge bear claws. Butter? Polar bear. Anton was a huge panda wearing a skinned fox hide, Trench was a surly black bear, Luna was a figment of my imagination and Chemo, ever the odd one out was a hideous pterodactyl. I nearly pissed myself at this sudden realization and then I remembered. It took me a few seconds to calm my tits. I steepled my fingers and put forth a calm face. The menagerie regarded me curiously. I spoke.
"So, no doubt you are wondering why I had gathered you all here today."
And then I told them. I told them everything.
Actual op should write faster.
>>
>>29424778
>>29424951
Well, go on. I'm at the edge of my seat here!
>>
"It POUNCES at you, some 600 pounds of hairy slobbering beast roaring in your face!" Bjorn described with intense energy.
"Usiliy falls back, looking to impale the bear through the back of its throat."
"Just speak in first person man."
"I like to keep myself and my character separate."
"Come on man. No one here will get confused and it's more immersive."
Fair enough.
"Alright, I hold up my sword like this when I fall on my back and if the bear comes down at my face I'm stabbing it through the throat."
I rolled unimpressively and the bear suddenly shifted into man form again, taking a glancing cut to the face before grabbing Usiliy by the wrists and hurling him across the inn and into furniture. The werebear picked up a hefty wood axe and charged. Using his impressive Athletics Usiliy belly crawled under the tables and chairs as they were rendered into kindling behind him with each superhumanly powerful swipe of axe.
>>
>>29424951
Hah, well done.

I'd post faster but I am now in an online game.
>>
>Usiliy is unnerved by these events and revelations as she is not fond of royal advisers or magic women.
>she
>It's not kind on our characters both of whom were described as wearing skimpy and practical clothing.
>skimpy clothing
Usiliy is that kind of rogue?
>>
>>29425562
(Borderline exhibitionist. He's a prettyboy and he comes from a place where people didn't wear much unless they were rich, old or traveling and even then)

I don't quite remember how but Usiliy managed to get under the floor since the building was raised on a platform. I took out the supports with powerful blasts of magic and soon the whole main portion of the inn was coming down. Suddenly an arm wielding an axe punched through the floorboards above and Usiliy stabbed it through the wrist, pinning the werebear in place as the wooden building teetered, slid and collapsed. Usiliy got out with no problems since Athletics 3 grants him impressive speed and I spent the last of my pre-rolled magic charge to set the thatch and woodn pile on fire. Ninjacatgirl took out the spooks and we warmed ourselves by the burning building, watching to make sure the werebear did not escape to kill us in our sleep. The spotlight moved on.
>>
>>29425562
And I sort of misread your >implications
Usiliy is a cis male secure in his heterosexuality despite the intense homosexual undertones in his backstory and his flamboyant slutwear.
>>
I quite enjoyed the wearbear fight action sequence. The pre-rolled dice allowed a good deal of it to happen without rolls while still being mechanically sound. It didn't go as smoothly for Smoky and Luna who weren't lucky enough to roll very well on many combat-relevant aspect scores. They tussled with humanoid skeletal crow demons that had descended upon Smoky's encampment in the night and the dice were not in their favour. Luna threw some magic, Smoky finally thought to rally his men and the crow demons were vanquished. Butter's self insert appeared and spilled exposition.
Then the scene framed Trench and Chemo. Butter and Chemo began to exchange notes. I found out later that one of Trench's dark elves slipped away to request aid as the life oath to their crazy barbarian master was surely going to end up in a mass suicide. Trench on the other hand sought out his target clan and decided to strike at them after sunset despite the penalties for defying Nalestrae's advice.
"So the dragon stone? They stole it. And it can only be used by one of chosen blood like me." He informed Bjorn.
>>
So he laid into their tents and sentries with axe and 'living smoke' he summoned with magic, leaving his snipers to surround the place and fire on his command. Chemo kept making whining noises and produced a sort of awkward tuneless humming. Then the tribe's chieftain popped out of his tent and shot lightning from a magical stone at Trench, yelling for him to lay down his weapons and dissipate his magic. Trench argued, but Bjorn said that they were of his clan's blood and this one had the right leniage to use the stone. Trench blocked with his own magic and they duked it out for a while. Then Chemo arrived, teleported the stone out of his hand and into Nalestrae's and threw down magical sleep. Trench failed his roll and had to get up from the table to cool down for a while. It was time for another break as lunch was ready.
>>
We were served stew and beer, nectar and ambrosia, eaten and drunk at the table. The bowls and bottles were cleared away. Full and buzzed as we were, the next roleplay volley was more relaxed and lazy for all but one. Trench had refused the beer (come to think of it I don't recall if Chemo or Luna partook either, I was too engrossed in the food) and spent the whole break brooding and poring over the rule pamphlet.
I knew that Trench was out for PC blood. He only plays for the sake of showing off or competition and he fancies himself a cheese master despite his frequent vocal condemnations of power gaming. Chemo had thwarted him and stolen his lightning stone. I couldn't trust Anton to back me up much as the two were friends and Smoky's character was no where near mine but I was already making metagame plans to try and curb stomp him which wasn't very good for immersion.

(Remembering the stew made me hungry, popping out for snacks)

So, we get back to Usiliy and ninjacatgirl again. The fires are dying down, Usiliy is missing his sword and isn't about to dig through the hot ashes to find it again, but on the bright side no werebears are popping out for surprise face maulings. They talk a bit, Usiliy having a bit of a character development moment where he explains that he tries to live in the present at all times without looking far into the past or future. Ninjacatgirl argued in favour of being optimistic about the future. They agreed to disagree.
Usiliy retrieves a burning branch to use as a torch and they continue on their intended route. Going into the mountains doesn't make things any warmer so soon both of us had to use magic to keep warm. We reach a tall cliff overlooking the lands to the north and we try to see our destination. We see Archon's glowy orb as a speck on the horizon, and the massive glowing crater of mystical chaos above which the aurora shimmers 24/7. What. I checked out the map and true enough there is a spot right in the middle of the region peppered with blue glitter. Bjorn explains that this is one of the few such spots around creation and that this is how magic seeps into the world. Supposedly only powerful mages can survive being near that thing and those that can make a worthy sacrifice can cut deals with gods and demons. Guess who at the table found this prospect most interesting.
>>
Our scene ends when Usiliy and ninjacatgirl descend into a snow-covered forest and are greeted by a 8 foot tall humanoid with massive antlers.
Chemo spends some time talking to Trench's dark elf retinue. It is revealed that by moving Trench's sleeping carcass out of enemy territory they had repaid their debt. Chemo bids them to consider abandoning their dark path and the group consensus is a firm Maybe.
Trench's character awakens, deprived of groupies, artefact and proper vengeance. He no longer looked pissed out of character. He cast magical flight and tore Archon's magical peace gem out of its tower with his massive thews. Chemo looked prepared to squack loudly and flutter away in a flurry of feathers.
>>
>>29469968

I imagine it's that mongloid trench. Glad to see you back among us.
>>
>>29469610
I'd put my money on "I'm not a very good ruseman" as it would be misleading without being outright untrue.

>>29470837
It's good to be back and feelings better. I think I lost a few pounds in solid weight.

>that feel when your puke has blood in it but not because you're puking up blood and because you've stumbled out of bed disoriented as well as nauseous and smashed your lip on the toilet bowl
>>
So Chemo states that surely Nalestrae would notice the missing orb and our GMs agree. The elf chases down the barbarian and they negotiate and Trench receives his dragon stone which he uses to promptly lightning bolt Nalestrae.
"What? It's what my character would do."
"Actually no, you've been lugging around the stone of peace and harmony for what, an hour in-game? You've been dosed point-blank with its friendship rays the whole time." Smoky noted.
Trench's response to roll penalties is to ignore them. He rolls anyway and of course he crits.
Nalestrae defends with magic and despite having a good pre-rolled result on Magic's vigilance and the berserker's huge anti-violence penalties is still hurt, flees on the winds leaving Trench with two artefacts. Chemo needs to take a break and gets up from the table for the first time, shuffling awkwardly away and Anton follows.
We're now back to Luna and Smoky. They had decided to head to Archon after Butter's avatar's warning to seek magical help. Apparently smoky's kingdom is not only taken over by corrupt rulership but is on the fast track to becoming a festering undead necropolis. Luna's home kingdom is further away but in the same general direction. The parties were slowly converging toward the same general location on the map.
>>
Chemo came back just as the spot light shifted to Usiliy and ninjacatgirl. The huge shady figure spoke to us, Bjorn dramatically booming his lines, informing us that we were hunted by forces dark for our valuable cargo. I slowly realized that this was his own GM avatar. We were promised protection from the unseelie that infested the wood until we were out if we gave him the name of our employer which we did without hesitation. Team slut was chaotic to the max, heroic rogues represent. He told us that man was dead. He also told us that the egg could be safely hidden by the magic rift or taken to Archon. He then looked up and appended "Or perhaps not."
>>
(I am now with company and posting from my phone.)

While Trench makes his way toward a point on the map called the Wyrm Pits Chemo drops the nuclear option: delegation. A quick scrying reveals our parties and we are sent messages on the wind that dont arrive until later. Chemo spoke to the drow some more too.
Smoky and Luna come across a village being razed by ghouls. They run them down with Smoky's cavalry and Luna finds some clues. I was in the washroom at the time.
>>
(company is proving to not be particularly engaging)

The message came. Nelestrae introduced himself, explained the situation and pleaded for help 'talking' the warrior down. Ninjacatgirl agreed right away, Smoky's character was growing pissed at the world, and Luna despite quality roleplaying was growing hard to read. A stack of notes from Butter was growing by her aspect cards and she was resting her head on the table when it wasn't her turn, sometimes sitting up to ask questions. She would often ask questions on someone else's turn, and Chemo was all too happy to shush her. Anton too whenever he tried to slip in a stupid joke or a timely 'Lol'.
>>
The elf's message wasn't a two-way communication channel and no one else had Magic powerful enough to respond in a timely manner so we couldn't ask for details. Usiliy proposed they bury the egg first and team slut headed toward the rift only to be attacked by demon wolves air dropped by shadowy winged things through the forest canopy. Ninjacatgirl sliced them all to pieces with a flash of her katana before Usiliy could do anything and we wore their furs for warmth. As you can see rating 3 aspects are impressive.
Trench was attacked by nomad bandits in the plains and took their horses. The stone's lightning was equivalent to an attack by a Magic rating 4 character and it provided Charm 4 toward dragons. Clearly he was trying to turn the wyrm pit into a personal army.
Trench was getting agitated at the table and it wasn't hard to see why as suddenly every PC was against him. He began frequently questioning and contradicting the GMs on other people's turns and he barked Chemo into silence on the initial shush attempt. Bjorn had to ask him to stop being such a douche.

So back in October I joined a game at the FLGS. The GM was a friend of a friend, charismatic and passionate about games. We rolled up characters, jumped through some hoops to fit the setting and soon game day came. He got prepped, got us situated. Then, someone he knew came by, there were warm greetings and he stepped out to smoke. Clearly what they smoked was not cigarettes. GM came back 20 minutes later, obviously high and mildly verbally abusive to everyone. He pulled out his laptop and proceeded to listen to Wrecking Ball for 40 minutes straight, ignoring all interruption. I left to eat with another player and he finished just as we got back. GM then suggested we go to a strip club instead of playing but someone would have to pay for him because he had no money.
And everybody left. The end.

Theorycrafting to keep this thread alive.
1) Chemo is a girl. Ponytail is all I've got, and hate of violence.
2) Bjorn saves the day, somehow. What a man. How could ha not be our hero?
3) Trench kills... someone. Not sure who yet.
4) Butter shits herself, and leaves, never to return.
5) Anton becomes cool, as he's trying to impress Chemo, who he knows is a [girl]. (This point will still stand even if Chemo turns out to be a boy.)

Of these people, I would play with Bjorn, Butter, Smokey, OP, Luna and maaaaaybe Anton? I like levity in players but his characters do seem a bit... eh. It's a bit hard to judge them on character creation with it being such high level, though.

Day 4 of captain's log:
Op is still a faggot
>>
So Smoky and Luna arrived at Trench's character's location. Trench had calmed mostly and seemed almost giddy. Smoky stared him down at the table and described how Lionheart rode right up to the berserker and his horse caravan and eyed him from horseback. He challenged his possession of Archon's glowy friendship ball and Trench replied with dismissive hostility. Smoky told him to hand it over. Trench suggested he make him. A fight was inevitable and it was skewed hugely in Trench's favour - his character was a better fighter and on top of that a powerful mage with a deadly artefact and Smoky was sans army. Luna was there but her character's raw power and political influence were spread to thin to make much of an impact.
Smoky drew his sword. Trench responded with point-blank lightning. He rolled poorly and Smoky survived without a burn. Bjorn asked what Smoky was going to do in reponse when Luna just sort of muttered "Thunder scares horses."

"That's right. Your characters should see if they can keep them in line."
Apparently controlling horses falls under either Athletics or Leadership. Everyone rolls leadership. Trench gets another sub par result, Luna barely stays mounded and Smoky's dice come up the same as Trench's but his high Leadership more than made up for it.
"So Trench's horse rears in panic, whinnying loudly!"
"I can take control of other horses too right?" Smoky asked.
"Sure, there are plenty of horses around I guess, whatever makes sense."
"Great, I jump off my own and grab his reigns."
So what Smoky ended up doing was pulling Trench's mount off balance so it collapsed atop him. Hundreds of pounds of screaming, thrashing, powerful frightened animal are hard to ignore even with borderline supernatural strength.
Trench didn't like that. He accused Bjorn of favoritism and implied that they just invited him to this game so they could all gang up on him. There was no way this sort of thing could happen without a GM that wanted to see him fail!
>>
>>29509317
Oh man, I thought I hated this Trench guy enough already for his namesake, but he keeps getting worse.
>>
Smoky took Archon's beacon and got back onto his own horse but not before slitting the throat. He wanted to take Trench's dragon stone too but that intention had been sort of glazed over because Trench looked like he was about to cry while trying to flip the huge table. Too merciful if you ask me. After being horse suplexed Trench's character had too many hinderance tokens to get out from under it so Smoky just slit the animal's throat and left the carcass atop him.
Trench just sort of threw his arms up. "Fine! You've humiliated my character. Should I just leave now or are we gonna keep playing?"
Usiliy and ninjacatgirl arrive in time for a dragon to swoop down from the sky to lift and carry off a horse. Trench swatted his soda off the table in a twitch of nerd fury and coke flew everywhere.

You see at first I thought he was just quoting the movie. Then I saw that he was referencing the bump limit was 300 and then I realised. I gotta say I felt like an idiot, reminds me of the time where I caught two of my players making out while I stepped out to the bathroom. I heard some noises and was just done washing up. There was giggling as I opened the door, get on the floor, everybody do the dinosaur.
>>
Somebody better archive this, it must be preserved for future generations even if it is never completed.
>>
Bjorn sent him out for a walk and Butter detached from the table to wash up since she was in the splash zone. We decided that this was a good time for a break.
Bjorn went to give Trench a talking to, a quiet pow-wow. There must have been respect toward Trench since he had been given an invitation to this meeting of roleplaying elites, maybe Bjorn was under the impression that Trench was just having a bad day.
Smoky left to get his fix and I followed. We got dressed and stepped out. It was wet and chilly. We had a quiet conversation about the events at the table. Trees and bushes in the back yard were petrified in ice and very pretty. We had discussed Trench and his previous bouts of That Guy-level faggotry and I asked about Luna. He said he didn't know much about her but she had once joined one of his skype games in the recent months. I asked about Chemo and raised his eyebrows, sight and prepared to get into that can of worms with a 'you're gonna like this' expression.
"Well, you know how I went to school with [FLGS owner] right?"
"Yeah."
The door to the back yard opened and Anton stepped out.
"Sup faggets."
So we talked about dragons and the game for a while instead.

We returned inside and back to the gaming table. Chemo was at one of the peripheral smaller tables doodling and taking a break, Luna was at her spot, asleep. Bjorn and Trench were seated in the foyer, magic cards laid out between them. I remember old plumbing hissing above, maybe a flush of a toilet or the drain of a shower and that Butter had gone up stairs. It looked like this break was going to be a long one. I considered getting my laptop out and playing a game but - no power. Smoky, Anton and I sat down at the big round table again, prepared to kill some time.

I'll create a new thread next and link to it here.
