You are Arva, the Overlord of the tower in Strongwind.
You gained this title after murdering the previous Overlord with your holy blade, The Savior.
There have been some minor repairs to the tower and it now has a massive bathing facility. There are also a few new demons. With you there are...
Elyva, a small demoness that has been summoned from another realm by...
Elura, the tower's demonologist. She can summon and bind demons from other realms for a small price of souls or gold.
Istur the tower's architect. He maintains the traps and can build new buildings.
Nix, a newly summoned demon who is in charge of making sure that the imps you have work hard. She has four arms and a mask that covers her face. She is able to see all around her and is surprisingly strong.
And finally there's Krus, a once valiant knight that has had her soul ripped out and replaced by a demon. She is your spy in the long of Strongwind.
Your current stock is 200 gold, 7 souls, and 1 golden soul.
Erluria's room expansion and a new War Room are being built. You have rings that allow you to communicate with one of your minions and a pair of goggles which have powers that you can not quite figure out.
>>
>>29404883
Wear the goggles. Also, is it Elura or Erluria?
>>
>>29404922
Eluria! My mistake.
>>
Hmm, so we have a couple choices.

1. wait for our spy to get back while things are repaired\built.
2. Fiddle with the goggles.
3. Wander outside the tower for one reason or another.
4. Examine the library a bit more.

I choose 2 for now.
>>
>>29404883
lets figure out whats up with the goggles

if only to shout "THE GOGGLES, THEY DO NOTHING" at the end of the experiment

>Arva puts on her new goggles and looks around. It tints everything blue a bit but other than that it doesn't seem to do much.

Man, these goggles really do nothing.
That old Overlord didn't leave me a single good thing besides him minions. And the tower itself of course but it only became really good after I started using it.

>Arva notices Elyva watching her.

"Overlord." She says. "Those goggles do not work here. They're only good for use on people with souls. If you use them you can easily tell if they're golden or not. It's of limited usefulness within the tower with Eluria but outside you may find it helpful."
>>
>>29405047
Well then. Shall we find a forboding dark cloak to wear and wander the town with our goggles on?
>>

Go talk to Istur about building more traps.

I could. I wonder how Krus is doing. I sent her off yesterday and she's yet to return. I hope she's not dead... I need her for information...

"Can they see through walls?"

"Well, if you..."

>She pulls down Arva and fiddles with some dials on the goggles.

"Just press this button here and twist this and... It can see through walls and other things. The last Overlord had Istur put these in. I never understood way."

I can think of why.
>>

Also, hey. Didn't we have Elyva find a spell to cast glamors for Krus last thread? Why don't we do it on ourselves now for a disguise?
>>
To the library

Let us see what texts there are on that most basic of Overlady duties, resource acquisition.
>>
>>29405239
Being able to see souls is not enough. We need to learn how to harvest them.
>>

>>29405218
Well when you have nearly limitless power and money I guess you do whatever you want.

"Hey, Elyva. Can you cast a glamor spell on me? Make it so people don't know it's me and all that?"

"Of course, Overlord."

>With a wave of her hand Arva is hidden behind a shroud of magic. Any who look at her would barely recognize her as the Overlord Arva.

"Perfect. I'm going to go to the town for a bit. Keep the fort while I'm out."

"Understood..."

>Arva leaves the tower and heads off to Strongwind. She feels nervous as she approaches but no one does more than give her a side glance. People chatter about their everyday lives but occasionally she catches someone saying her name.

>Ask people about the Overlord.
>Kind Krus.

Hahaha. I know I'm amazing but that may sound a little suspicious coming from me.

>>29405344
Let's see where the little lady went...

>Arva looks around the village. It is hard to find a single person here without asking for her but she eventually catches a glimpse of the knight as she heads into a building. Arva follows her inside and sees her minion sitting at a table with a young man at her side. Another man brings the two of them a drink and they continue to chatter.

What the..?

>Arva sits down on a nearby table and watches them. She remembers the building. It was a tavern... She hadn't been inside herself, bad memories of the place.
>She continues watching them as they talk, drink, and even laugh.

...
I can't tell if my minion is acting really well or what...

Fine. Just to see how he's doing. And of course I'm hiding Savior. The sword glows anyway. Not the best for trying to sneak with.

>Arva leaves the demon and her target alone and heads off to her father's home. He's busy working in a field, as usual.
>Arva watches as he handles tools that she would normally use. He looks so... Tired. It was a side of him that Arva was not used to seeing. One that he had always hid so well from her.

Hmph. I bet he wishes he had a son or something to do the work for him...

>He looks at Arva for a moment and her heart freezes. As he stares she wonders if he somehow saw pass her disguise... But the moment passes and the man returns to his work.

So. What was your childhood like, eh? You must not have totally hated your dad if you went to see him.

>>
>>29405766
Not happening.

>>29405755
It wasn't bad, really. It was just quiet. My dad isn't much of a talker and let me do whatever I wanted.
And you guys totally did tell me to go and see him! It's not because I wanted to or anything!
Also I better have a damn good reason to dance naked. I think I would die of embarrassment before I actually accomplished whatever silly task I set out to do.

>>29405765
Maybe. He knows I'm alive though. I think. I think everyone knows I'm the new Overlord.

>Arva leaves her father alone and goes to the town hall. It's actually quite full now. It's a public meeting of sorts and some knights are posted outside. They let Arva in without much fuss.
>Inside she hears people discussing... Her.
>It appears that now that Arva is 'dead' they are trying to figure out what to do. The tower still stands and is now without an Overlord. They speak of handing it over to the Twins. With them in there they could easily find what's actually of value and perhaps make the tower something that could actually help Strongwind. People seem to agree with this choice.

>___
>>
>>29405879
This is our time to add in any suggestions we wish, I suppose?

I remember someone mentioning that we would have Krus trick some knights into entering the tower, so we could capture them. Perhaps we could replace their souls with demons, just like we did with the female knight?

Anyway, just suggest that the village send a small detachment of knights first to scout out the tower before sending the twins in. Who knows what traps could be in there....
>>
>>29405879
Keep listening for now. It would look suspicious if some new guy started suggesting things.

>Arva listens for a moment longer before stepping out. She manages to catch Krus on her own and pulls the girl aside. She explains to her that now is the perfect time to try and get more knights to enter the tower. Krus nods and heads off to the town hall.
>Arva goes back and listens as Krus manages to convince the people to send her in along with a small group of knights. She will lead them through the tower and pass any traps that the fallen Overlord might have set. It is far safer than sending in the wizards.
>After some discussion they agree that that may be the best plan. They send Krus to pick out the group.

And that is where I leave.

>Arva rushes back to the tower and slams the door shut behind her. Eluria is in the library and greets her.

"Overlord~ Glad to have you back."

"Hey. So, we might be having company."

"Good company or 'I can steal their souls' company?"

"The latter."

"I'll get the black gate ready~"

Alright, let's get some more possessed knights. I'd almost feel bad for them if they weren't trying to steal my tower from me.

>The most lethal of the traps are disabled and she puts Nix in the library with the orders to make sure that the ones who enter are NOT killed.
>She then waits as the knights approach her tower. With her new goggles she can see them step in even from her throne room. One of the knights takes a wrong turn and is simply vaporized by a magical beam.

Whoops.

>The others learn not to follow him and make their way further up the tower. They enter the library and encounter Nix. There are 4 knights, not counting Krus, and they all surround the demon. Each of her arms draws out a whip and she attacks the knights with all she has. Her whip, however, is blocked several times and one is knocked out of her hand. A knight manages to wound her side. She returns the injury with a well placed punch to the knight's chest. It dents her armor and she crumples over.
>There are still 3 knights and Krus, who is trying not to help them but also not seem like she's doing nothing.

>Arva runs downstairs, the Savior in hand. It glows as she strikes the nearest knight from behind with the pommel of her sword. The knight crumples and falls. Nix nods towards Arva and takes on the remaining two. They have a hard time deflecting blocks from Nix and evading you as well.
>Another drops from a well placed strike to the head. The last one is an amazing swordsman and is able to hold his own against the Overlord and her minion. What he did not expect was to be attacked by one of his own...
>Krus strikes the man and he too falls down, unconscious. Elyva rushes out from a nearby corner and begins healing Nix.

"That's all of them?"

>Krus nods.

"One dead, 4 capture. Not bad." The former knight says.

>Eluria steps into the library, a smile on her lips.

"I just got the soul from the last one. What would you like me to do with these?"

>She gestures to the fallen knights. 3 men and 1 woman.

>>
>>29406282
We need people who can get far from the tower, and possessed are our only means for that at the moment, and we have only Krus at the moment. So we should create as many possessed as we can.
>>
>>29406256
Hey, we can try that 'harvesting without killing' thing on one of them. The woman.

Possession on all 4.
The 4 of them and Krus can come back to town and say they have cleared out the traps...
Come up with a plausible excuse for something magical happening to the one who got vapired to get the twins (mages) to come over and then get them possessed too.
That would leave the town significantly lower on defenses.
Then the 5 possessed plus the twins could abduct individual knights for possesion, after all 22 knights are possessed they can take over the town.
>>
>>29406336
i'll second this, we need the practice
>>
>>29406336
its a pointless waste, it leaves her as a mindless automaton and makes any lies significantly harder to sell to the town.

Also, we should get our architect to make some knockout traps.

Also also, we should spend some souls on summoning a few combat demons.

And we can also have the knights abduct criminals and bring them to the tower for execution or soul removal or whatever we want.
>>
>>29406386
>i'll second this, we need the practice
what practice?
This is something out demon summoner does and knows how to do well, not something we do personally.
>>
>>29406322
<I will be sure to do so.>

"Let's get that Golden Soul. The rest we'll just turn into demons. " >>29406336 "Except for her." She points to the female knight. "I just want her soul. Leave her body."

"Understood~" Eluria grins and begins dragging away the knights with her long tendrils.

>Arva is not keen on seeing the ritual again. Even though she may be evil it still disturbs her... She knows that even someone as amazing as herself isn't immune to having her soul ripped out.
>When everything is done she has one more Golden Soul, one normal soul, the female knight's body (still alive but no one's home, so to speak) and two demons. They introduce themselves as Sersino and Dyf. They join their ally Krus as Elyva puts glamor charms on all of them.
>The remaining knight simply sits on the floor, leaning against the wall with a blank look on her eyes.
>Eluria seems quite pleased with herself.

>___
>>
>>29406411
argh, what a waste.
Now we have 3 knights instead of 5.

Turn the female's body into a sex doll for personal pleasure. Let no resource go wasted
>>
>>29406411
Well, summon a demon what specializes in defeating mages (-5 souls). and one that is good at general combat (-1 soul)

Give krus a communication ring.

Get the 3 knights we have to go try and convince the mages to come by saying that they cleared some traps but that 3 of their number got trapped in a magical stasis trap which needs dispelling. When the mages are in the tower they can be ambushed by the 3 knights + our combat demons.
>>
>>29406411
Okay, let's give the communications device to Krus.

>>29406453
Well, what's done is done. Might as well test her to see what she's capable of. Ask Eluria if you can put souls back into bodies. Ask her if you can put other people's souls into other people's bodies.
>>
>>29406411
this >>29406508
also ask her if we can store multiple souls in one body
>>
>>29406508

whatever we do, we should tie her up first.
I suggest we shove her original soul back in and if it works get her possessed. This gives us another knight.
We can then kidnap random beutiful peasant girls and make them into soulless slaves if that is what we REALLY want.
Also could experiment on random peasents in terms of putting multiple souls in one and swapping souls with another person.

Having another knight in our service is just too good an opportunity to waste
>>
>>29406629
>random peasants for experimenting
>beutiful random peasants for soulless dolls
If doing this, it is advisable to snatch out of town travelers rather then kidnapping someone from town.
Or sneak someone out from prison.
And in either case such things should really wait until after we conquer the town to avoid raising suspicion.
>>
>>29406629
>Possessing her right after.

>>29406664
we can experiment on random peasants, any demon that possess her will have her memories, this includes combat skills and knowledge of town defenses. Remember the town is defended by 22 knights and a bunch of militia.

It is a total waste to experiment on her and beautiful girls are a dime a dozen.
>>

Order them to return (good thing krus has the ring) and get our artificer to do this ASAP, then send them back out to bring in the mages
>>
We should also ask Eluria what we can do with an 'empty' body. Modify it somehow? We do kinda need some armour...
>>

This is a bad idea, the sword doesn't give us any bonuses against them and could be used to slay us. We should lock it in the tower and get a wicked sword from our artificer.

This is an idea for when we have spare bodies we don't really need. Right now we're kind of deficient on manpower so we can't spare any. We can just interrogate the possessing demon anyway, so that value is limited for souls gained from live captures.

succubi are exclusively rental only due to a monopoly.
However, there are demons who are very sexually experienced who are very similiar to succubi without technically being one, those we can get if we wanted to.

Aaaaah. It's so tempting to see if I can just shove more souls in her but...

"Let some demon take her. We need more minions inside the town."

>The knight's skin becomes deathly pale as she hears Arva's words. Before she can protest Eluria is upon her with her dagger. Arva looks away but she can still hear a scream as the girl's soul is torn apart by the demon invading her.
>It's over in a moment and a new demon, Lurrie, has joined the group.
>The other group of knights has returned by now and they welcome their new ally. You have Istur tinker with their armor and soon they look almost exactly like their old selves. Elyva puts up a glamor spell that she says shouldn't easily be broken but it's just in case someone would notice something off.
>The group leaves once more.

>A few minutes later Krus reports back saying that the entire group of knights is coming back along with the twins. A boy and girl mage, they are especially good at elemental magic. Without them the town's defense will suffer a crippling blow.
>You stay within your tower and ponder what to do with them.

Last thread we discussed getting the following:
1. Magic teacher demon - if we possess the mages they can teach us the basics but they specialize in elemental magics. So we might want to get another one
2. Beastmaster demon - tame wild animals, magically enhance them into dire versions
3. Necromancer demon - raise the undead as our troops
4. Golemancer - an army of golems to do our bidding

If we summon #1 and maybe #3 of those now they could help us in capturing the two mages alive.
Alternatively, we could summon a demon specializing in capture, one with a paralysis venom who is really really sneaky and fast.

>All the death traps. Take their souls.

It's a good thing that most people in the town don't seem to be aware of what demon possessions are, else they'd be more careful about sending so many people to the overlord's "former" tower.

Nothing would be remiss if the two siblings didn't return to town, right? It would be easy enough to lie to the townspeople and tell them that the twins are simply setting up shop at the tower.

You guys seem to want to capture but I agree... We need to be sneaky about it.

"Eluria! Summon something that can like paralyze people or something."

"Right away."

>Eluria spends 3 souls and summons a minor demon. The ritual is a quick one and soon a small demoness with a human torso and spider legs is summoned. She calls herself Balamut and assures the Overlord that she can easily knock out the twins.

>The twins arrive. Arva watches them enter the tower, unaware that their companions are the same demons that they have been told to be so wary of. They are smarter than the knights that came before as they manage to evade even the minor traps that are set.
>They reach the library and the knights assure them that they are not too far away from the stasis traps.
>That is when Balamut strikes. She descends from the ceiling and hovers behind the boy. She quietly sinks her fangs into the back of his neck and he falls backwards. One of the knights reaches out and grabs him before he hits the ground to try and stop him from making too much noise.
>But the sister still notices.
>Perhaps she senses her brother passing out but she turns around the instant he falls. She sees Balamut and with a odd shout in an arcane language she unleashes a spell. A burst of fire envelops the demon and she screams in agony as she is burned to ash.
>The knights are frozen, unsure of what to do.

>>29407220
>>29407239
Yes, we had a mental link with Krus. We could have ordered her to vocally restrain one of the mages to stop them from casting spells the instant one of the siblings had been paralyzed. We didn't, and we lost a demon for it. Which is fine, since we're about to gain two mage souls in return.
>>
>>29407239
>>29407268
Well, she DID claim she could handle both.
>>
>>29407268
Remember that a soul is always worth 1 soul.
Unless it is a golden soul (very pious person) who is worth 5 souls.
Being mages does not make their souls worth any more for trade.
It does however make their souls invaluable for possession, because a possession has a demon eat the soul inside its body retaining all its memories and skills. This means all their magic skills and knowledge.
Which is why doing anything other then possession with the mages is a huge waste.
>>
Dammit, Balamut. You had one job... She was pretty adorable though.

>Arva sends her orders to Krus.
>The knight manages to convince the female twin to try and heal her brother. She kneels beside him and begins chanting a long spell.
>The other knights surround her to 'make a protective circle'. Krus is stationed behind the mage. Before she can finish her spell Krus strikes her in the back of her head. There is a crackle of energy as Krus's blade is reflected.
>The mage looks back, startled at Krus's sudden betrayal. Before the mage can strike back the other knights leap into action. Two more strikes are deflected by the mage's wards and she can do little but try and strike at her assailants with her fists. Finally a third strike hits and the mage is knocked out. The knights bring the mage's bodies to Arva and Eluria.
>Eluria smiles as she examines them.

"Overlord, these two have been using magic for quite some time. Magic users souls naturally have more mana within them. If I use them to fuel spells or special rituals I would only have to use one soul as opposed to the half dozen it would normally take."

possess. We don't have ranged units yet, and we need elemental magic around this place.

>>
>>29407313

so we couldnt pull their souls out of their bodies, pop some demons in them and they would have they're knowledge right?

>Harvest

In that case harvest them without killing them. We can put the souls back in if we decide to possess them later, but right now we should just make sure they can't cause any trouble.
>>
>>29407313
harvest their souls and put the living bodies in storage, we will decide later what to do
>>
>>29407313
being elemental mages sound like specializing in combat magic to me. This makes them invaluable for possession, beside this, we can continue to possess the leaders of town and take it this way.

Being worth 6 souls for magic rituals means a net gain of 5 or 6 souls depending on how you look at it. Big whoop, there are millions of souls out there. But very few of them are mages.
>>
>>29407313
I'll second >>29407362 & >>29407363

We can possess or sacrifice them at a later time when we know what we want to do with them
>>
>>29407355
Agreed. Keep them in storage for now.
>>
>>29407313
Can you remind us what the town defenses are
IIRC it was 22 knights, 2 mages, and some barely trained militia (don't remember how many)

Of the knights we killed 2 and possessed 4
Of the mages we captured 2
we still have unknown number of militia.
>>
>>29407313
Imagine what it would like to be posessed yourself.

Imagine how if you didn't remember it, if the demon.. Forgot... How you'd end up with the same person, almost. Except one who inexplicably just acts more evil, more horrifically, a pawn to some unknown voices and no longer has any will of their own.

Demons have the most remarkable capacity for deception. Even fooling themselves.

>>29407428
because I want both and can't decide like the spoilt manchild I am
>>
>>29407428
We don't know if we're going to need them for rituals or spells yet. As our experimentation showed, harvesting can be reversed, but possession cannot.
>>
>>29407428
We still haven't finished experimenting. We could find better use for them than harvesting or possession, and since we can put them back it won't really affect anything.
>>
>>29407448
good point. changing this >>29407349
to harvest without killing.
>>
So... ideas on what to do next:

1. Isolate the remaining knights and kidnap them 1 by 1 for possession.
2. Knock out and sneak the prisoners from the town jail to the tower for sacrifice for souls and corpses for a necromancer to raise
3. Have our troops ambush travelers for souls
4. Set up a tourist attraction in the tower, where people enter and leave possessed.
5. Get our 4 possessed knights and the 2 mages to go back and round up all the remaining knights to charge the tower, proclaiming that there are demons inside performing a resurrection ritual to bring back overlord arva and its guarded by some demons. We would have to prepare a bunch of knockout traps and maybe blow all our souls on summoning combat demons to do that. But it will resolve the situation rapidly and pretty much win us our first town.
But this is a bit risky to do now since we will be heavily outnumbered by powerful beings. I prefer to be sneaky for longer.
6. Summon demons as per >>29407013 and start building an army of golems, undead, and beasts.
>>
>>29407448
>We don't know if we're going to need them for rituals or spells yet.
we know for a fact we don't need them for any ritual spells.
Each is worth 6 measily souls for ritual spells, this is nothing, there are millions of people out there, we can have our 4 knights go out and bring back 50 random peasants for harvesting by the end of the day.
To use them on ritual magic is a complete and utter waste of their souls, its a trap option.
The only way it would have been worthy of consideration was if they allowed performing UNIQUE rituals that cannot be done by adding up 6 peasant souls.

Alright, alright. We'll just store them away for now.

>Eluria doesn't seem to mind but she does voice that the ritual for this is rather dull... She harvests their souls without killing them leaving Arva with two bodies and two Magical Souls. They count as one soul for everything but magical spells and rituals. For those they act as six.
>This fight did not go nearly as swimmingly as the others had. You lost a demon. A minor one but still. Spellcasters seem to be quite dangerous.

"Hey, Balamut died. Can I summon her again if I felt like it?"

"Of course, Overlord. She merely returned to the demon world. You can summon her again, if you'd like. There are few things that can permanently kill a demon. You're wearing one of them at your side." She gestures to Savior.

<Meant that the mages were sent to retrieve knights that were in stasis (AKA they died and we harvested their souls). The knights that are currently under Arva's control were kinda supposed to rescue them. Wondering what their excuse could be, now.>
>>
>>29407639
How many people were told about that.
>>
>>29407639
Ah, I see.

Well, we could say that the twin mages have decided to stay over at the tower for now to make it safer and convert it into something useful for the town. The two knights they 'rescued' just 'volunteered' to stay as guards for them.
>>
>>29407639
There were too many demons and traps. They saw everyone else die or get captured.
>>
>>29407639
excuse is simple, the 2 mages say it will take a few days to release the stasised knights
During which time they need a guard of knights to rotate out to protect them while they cast since the tower is bigger on the inside then on the outside and may contain wander monsters. We can rotate knights under our commands with real knights and infect them group by group.
>>
>>29407639
Eh we can just send one of the other knights (not Krus) back as a runner and say it's taking a while to figure it out, in the meantime they need more knights for guarding and some plebs for miscellaneous investigation they're going to get killed by the traps.
>>
>>29407639
>>29407675
This is a nice excuse, yes.
>>
>>29407639
We could have the knights bring one of the bodies back with them, saying that both the knights in the stasis trap as well as the mages turned out like this.

After that...

this works too >>29407675
actually, wow that's a great idea.
>>
>>29407663
Sounds suspicious. Just say the knights that died are dead from traps or demons. The mages were able to clear out the demons and are now making the tower safer.
>>
>>29407576
Have our lab mix up a good sleeping draught.

Send a couple of our 'Knights' back to town to tell everyone what's happening.

>"Hey guys. We've cleared out most of the traps and other dangerous stuff. The twins are sorting through all the arcane stuff, working out what to keep, what to sell, so on."

Go to the other Knights.

"The Overlord is dead and there'll never be another one! We should celebrate. Drinks are on us!"

Once the party gets going and the Knights are tipsy, slip the sleeping draught to them. Load them onto a cart under cover of dark and bring them to the tower.

Replace towns entire professional military force with our own minions.

We in charge now!
>>
>>29407675
And if the townfolk don't believe it, we can send back one of the mages, possessed, to organize a proper guard change.
Each time we bring in 4-6 new guards and they are ambushed by the existing guards they are supposed to relieve as well as sleep traps, a resummoned venomous demonette, and perhaps a pair of possessed mages. then they are taken alive, possessed, and the old guard returns to town to rest.
After doing it twice we will outnumber the free guards 3 to 1 and will be able to just take them in town... or we could even do it a fourth time and get the entire lot with none the wiser.
Heck, we can let the town think its free and just have the knights bring in the guard captain, mayor, and other influentials for possession. When a new mayor is elected, posses him to.
>>
>Arva orders the new empty mages to help Elyva stock the library. They seem to do the job easily enough but every once in a while they'll just pause and stare off at nothing before Elyva prods them back into working.

>>29407675
... Sounds good to me. Hopefully the townspeople don't bother questioning it too much. And if they do and decide to come over here...
With this we should be getting fresh knights rather easily.

>>29407602
>>29407626
Time to question Eluria!

"How many souls would it take to summon a mage as good as the two we just soul-killed?"

"I could summon a decent one for five souls. The more souls you give me the better they can be, of course, but five should be good enough for one of their skill."

"Alright. So you mentioned that Magical Souls can be used for spells and rituals? Do you mean that -only- they can be used or that any old soul can be used but they just make it easier?"

"The latter. But there are a few, and by that I meant VERY few, cases where pure magical souls are needed. Spells like this are typically continuous spells like making the tower one that can constantly move about or a room with an anti-magic field."

>___
>>
>>29407720
How many souls would it take to make our tower float around?
>>
>>29407720
Could their souls be used as fuel for an on-going magical effect? Such as for powering some sort of magical device or construct (such as a golem)?
>>
>>29407720
>But there are a few, and by that I meant VERY few, cases where pure magical souls are needed.
Ok then, it is not worthless to harvest them after all...

And actually making the tower able to move would be useful because our demons are limited in the distance they can walk away from the tower.

How many souls and of what kind are we talking about for that ritual?
>>
>>29407720
>spells like making the tower one that can constantly move about

Move how? Teleporting tower?

That could be -extremely- useful.

Also, the anti-magic room could be useful too. But focus on the moving tower for now. Tell me everything.

>>29407720
>"I could summon a decent one for five souls. The more souls you give me the better they can be, of course, but five should be good enough for one of their skill."
Are we talking their current skill level, or the skill level of whatever demon possess them and adds their magic to its own magic?
>>
>>29407720
can we use one of the magician souls to make a territory extender? Something portable that allows the area around it to be treated as part of the tower for demons or soul catching?
>>
>>29407768
>Portable range extender
OR a non portable range extender if more efficient to make the tower catch souls for a wider radius around itself.
If we move the tower to a center of a town and make it catch souls in the entire town then we have a a passive soul income as people die of old age or accident or disease.
>>
>>29407720
Question. What sort of spell would be needed to create an area where demons can exist in? Or to put it in another way, can we expand the sphere of influence of our tower?
>>
>>29407786
but we could also give it to a raid group to gather souls, even if they might have to return every once in a while for the souls to actually count.
>>
>>29407796
A raid group means we are killing useful productive people that we would otherwise own.
It is useful to get it first for fighting foreign mages to get more magical souls. As well as raiding enemies.
While capturing people as they die of old age... well nobody knows we captured them and they lived a full productive life working and producing for us.

However, just the ability to capture foreign mages means that it is better to get the portable one first.

>>29407814
yeah, I think the passive death by age or sickness souls can wait until the town is fine serving their new overlord.

>At the mention of a moving tower Arva's eyes light up.
Hell
Yes.

Arva's Moving Tower. I can see it now.
It will be the best thing, ever.

"Tell me more about this 'moving tower' spell."

"Well... For 3 Magical Souls and 1 Soul I can enchant the tower so that it moves. It won't be faster than an average human's walking speed but it can move across the land with no power. It can not climb up mountains but hills would be no problem. For another Magical Soul I can double it's speed. For 10 Magical Souls I might even be able to make it teleport."

That sounds like the coolest thing ever we need to work on this okay guys?

"So how about something that allows me to expand my sphere of influence? Like, I don't want my normal demons to die when they walk to far off."

"That is much simpler. For one Magical Soul or six Souls I can nearly double how far demons can move from the tower."

"How about some sort of portable means of that spell?"

"I... Would need to do some research... The old Overlord never requested anything like that."

"That's fine. So, can we put a soul in dead things?"

"I... Have no tried that. In theory the dead body would reject it completely."

"If a demon possessed these guys would the demon gain their powers?"

"Indeed, it would. It may need some practice but it would be able to do it easily enough."

"Are memories stored in their souls or bodies? Like if a demon went in now what would happen."

"It would only gain their memories if their soul is intact within"

Can we do anything with empty bodies aside from order them around?
>>
>>29407879
>"It would only gain their memories if their soul is intact within"
>>
>>29407844
>>29407880
Also, we may want to start creating equipment for ourselves. Having a demon-slaying sword is good and all (the threat of being killed permanently is important, I suppose, to enforce discipline among the lesser demons we have, such as the imps), but we need to be more intimidating. Perhaps a helmet to strike fear (magically or not) into the hearts of people?
>>

>For 10 Magical Souls I might even be able to make it teleport
Added to The List!

>"Can you open portals or teleport troops to other places in this world?

>Perhaps another room like the Black Gate but with a portal that can lead to neighbouring towns instead of the Demon Realm?"

We don't wan't to ruin our own town by excessive plundering. But if we could raid -other- towns...

Souls... Gold.... Slaves.... But most importantly, Magic Souls to create a TELEPORTING TOWER!
>>
>>29407900
Said nothing about powers. Just want some clarification.
>>
We definitely have use for magical souls then...
but there is no reason to destroy their bodies, this means that if we have to we can still possess one of them to complete the ruse and get the knights shifting in and out of the tower.
>>
>>29407903
I think we should be seen as a benevolent ruler, while keeping our soul harvesting to convicts, the dying, and foreign towns.
>>
>>29407885
>>29407879
We can put Demons in their bodies. The Demons could learn to use their magic, but don't gain their knowledge, memories or anything.
>>
>>29407927
Sure, sure. It can be our war leader helmet, then. To put on. For war.
>>
"So you definitely need the souls in order to get the abilities? Is there a part of them that is like... Inherently magical, then? Do their bodies just store magic better?"

"Not really. Mages are made, not born. Anyone can use magic if they dedicated themselves to it."

"And for the awesome moving tower thing... Is that ten magical souls -total- or ten in addition to the three spent to make it move?"

"Ah, sorry if I was unclear. That is a total of ten Magical Souls along with one Soul to make it move. The first three Magical Souls are just to get it started. I would then add more and more Magical Souls until it can just teleport around."

>>29407879
I'm pretty sure the souls have to be in there in order to get the skills of the mages. Casters seem to be able to come from anyone.

>>29407925
>>29407885
"So is there anything we can do with those mage's bodies?"

"Well... We can try a bunch of things out. As they are there is little we can do but offer them to demons for possession. And if we do that the demons possessing them are unlikely to give up the body. And as we just discovered we can always return their souls when we want to."

>___
>>
>>29407925
I meant to say "if we have to in order to complete the ruse".
I hope we manage to trick them without using up either mage soul that way.

>>29407844
>"If a demon possessed these guys would the demon gain their powers?"
>"Indeed, it would. It may need some practice but it would be able to do it easily enough."
Ok, so if we summon a mage demon to posses the mages the end result should be a mage better than we would could otherwise get.

That being said, I do not think it is worth it on sheer magical power because we could just use extra peasant souls to summon a more powerful stand alone mage demon.

Thus the only uses I see for them now is
1. Possession in order to fool the rest of the town to continue our takeover - ideally we can fool them without wasting those mage souls
2. Save them to fuel the moving tower idea.
>>
>>29407927
Bit late for that, anon.
But I agree, we should be SEEN as a benevolent ruler.
>>29407947
Is there any way to extract their memories, so we can keep the souls AND allow a possessing demon to have their memories?
>>
>>29407947
We should find out if we can return souls to different bodies before offering theirs to demons.
>>
>>29407978
We could try putting their souls in the others body...
>>
>>29407986
Wouldn't want to risk their valuable souls. Just use one of our stored souls. We have to find a body though.
>>
>>29407947
>Its upgradable
very useful then...
However, the portable tower zone is more useful as it allows us to sends demons on a raiding party to capture enemy mage souls. But that requires some research.

In the meantime I think I am ready to continue with the ruse.

I suggest we send a different knight back this time instead of Krus, to avoid suspicion. Have him explain that the mages are working on the stasised knights and need a guard, and that new guards should come to relieve them in 8 hours. And not to enter the tower alone, instead wait outside and one of the current guards will guide them in past the traps for the swap.

Then this knight in question will go back to the tower to continue his "shift".
We do this over the next few days.

In addition, we should aim to get a colorless odorless knockout gas traps that the replacement knights could be led through for ease of capture. Its ok if the knight leading them also gets knocked out, since it doesn't harm them.
>>
>>29407986
Don't experiment on valuable souls like that.
That experiment you suggested is great and should be performed on a pair of random peasants we kidnap from the forest in the next few days.
>>
>>29407947
>>29408000
Yeah, it'd be good if we could somehow subsume the town's entire military force this way. Who knows.
>>
>>29407976
Yeah, I meant public image. We can be as dastardly as we want behind closed doors.
>>
>>29407927
>>29407976
>We should be seen as a benevolent ruler that steals the souls of convicts
This is a TERRIBLE idea.
We should not let anyone know we steal souls, ever!
We should be known as a benevolent ruler... as long as people obey that is.
Convicts will be put to work in community service if they performed a minor crime, if they performed a major crime they will be beheaded in a non public execution (where we secretly steal their souls), we shall NOT make it public that their souls were taken.

>>29408000
sounds good.

I just realized why Arva's dad seemed so down, he thinks she is dead...

this plan is awesome, almost as good as turning the tower into a tourist trap literally

>>29408050

Seconding... Thirding... Whatever.

Send knight back to town.
Inform people that the twins are doing mage stuff and it'll take a few days.
The other knights stayed at the tower to guard them.. And give them company while they work.
Arrange a shift change for the guards.
Sleeping gas.
Increase our minions!

>>29408093
It was fun, man. Looking forward to next time.

So the knights, we're obviously going to try to take over their entire order. But where will we get our souls afterward? If we want to seem benevolent towards the townspeople, we can't just randomly abduct them. Even if they don't know it's us, they'd be suspicious of evil things happening.

So. We're obviously going to go raid other towns. Next on the agenda: maps. Because we're going to need to plan this out. It's a good thing that we're getting that war room built!
>>
>>29408065
oi!, i just got done reading, i think you didnt think of the potiential usefullness of a anti magic room. it is the ultimate trap for mages. lets find out wether or not mages can sense an anti magic room. my point is: since mages seems so powerfull, we need something to deal with them. having a room that is anti magic but can be flooded with a knockout gas is my suggestion, but im still drunk from yesterday so you know, feel free to do the heavy thinking yourself
>>
>>29408050
yeah we are totally fixing that and saying Hi to dad once our position is more concrete

although we might want to be prepared to heal him if we give him a heart attack
>>
>>29408069
Can be made even safer if we make it a guard of 6 persons, the knight comes back with 2 more now for this shift.
Next shift 6 more are taken.
Next 2 shifts after that will be 4 unpossessed and 2 already possessed guards mixed in for a return shift (after having rested) to reduce suspicion and take them by force if they get suspicious (as our knights will outnumber them 2 to 1 at every shift exchange except the first one)
>>
>>29408127
That is a good point, it is the ultimate mage trap.

However there are no more mages around this area to lure into the tower, we will have to venture out and hunt more or get them to travel from far away (why would they).

It seems better to make a tower extender and send demons to hunt mages far and wide...

Or maybe we can make the tower disguise itself as a mage tower/shop and teleport to towns. Mage enters to buy goods, recognized as useful, lured into back room for mage trap as you described.

Another option is to get a magic using demon and have him take apprentices in town to manufacture more mages. Since everyone can learn to be one and there is no special spark you need to be born with, merely training. We could train and then harvest mages.
>>
remind me again if we can use souls of only humans or any sentient soul will do.
Would souls of goblins, kobolds, orcs, etc be useful?
>>
>>29408281
We don't even know if other races exist. But they probably do.

And I don't see why their souls wouldn't be acceptable.
>>
>>29408281
Other races do exist, including the ones you just mentioned. Elves, dwarves, gnomes, etc. Their souls are exactly the same as a human's for all intent and purposes.
>>
>>29408297
if they do exist and if we can use their souls we might set up some soul harvesting farms using goblins and kobolds.
>>
>>29408297
this...
which reminds me, we need to find out if orcs exist.
>>
>>29408333
well now that's just great
time to find some goblin lairs
>>
>>29408333
We need to start a cult, where we say the possession thing is some kind of divinity entering the body. That'd make it a fair bit easier.
>>
>>29408346
oooh... extend collection range around tower. Have goblin village living and working and dying in or around the immediate tower. They breed really fast and die of old age really fast. Perfect for passive soul harvesting...
Of course the smell is a problem.
>>
>>29408333
now I want me a pair of female brown elf twins, not for lewds, well maybe a little, massages are nice, but just for servants and for running the tower and being companions
>>
>>29408351
That would be pretty neat idea.
Although, not divinity, just power. Perform a ritual and become more powerful than ever before.
Thing is, this will primarily draw in weaklings who are not worth possessing
>>
>>29408351
I think that kind of trick would be easier to perform on less civilized races.

>>29408333
>>29408344
>>29408346
>>29408363
Yeah, I think once we get to the war room and start planning our conquests (after we've subdued the town, of course), we'll need to do some research on any neighboring races first. See if there are any potential allies. An overlord just ain't a proper overlord if they don't have a few legions of thugs under their employ, after all.
>>
I'm just waiting for the plot point to come about that possession demons can't walk on holy ground or priests can exorcise them or something. If it was this easy to infiltrate a place someone would already have done so and conquered this world.
>>
>>29408374
You know, we don't have to possess every peasant we come across. We could just HIRE a pair of chocolate elf twins without ever getting them possessed once we have a stable kingdom.

Or if we want them to be loyal and not worry about keeping what we do a secret we could find a pair of young children that match that description. ~5 year old sounds good, young enough to forget their parents and be easily molded to our perfectly loyal domestic servants. (assuming they mature at same rate as humans)
>>
>>29408409
>You know, we don't have to possess every peasant we come across. We could just HIRE a pair of chocolate elf twins without ever getting them possessed once we have a stable kingdom.
Oh I know, I never meant we should totally kidnap them and possess them, I just want me some loyal chocolate elf retainers
>>
>>29408093
Twitter (or at least a slightly more in advance QTG post) is extra useful for less frequent quests - around a week between sessions like this one - without a set schedule.
>>
>>29408402
The possessed demons have extended range from the tower compared to regular summons but are still limited in their range from the tower.

Exorcising them would be the same as killing them because the original soul has been destroyed (devoured by the demon; possession is really a misnomer)

But I am sure there are some people who could do that, heck we personally have a sword called savior which can 1 shot kill any demon with ease.

Without a moving tower summoned demons can barely reach this one town and will only be as strong as a human once they reach the town (slightly stronger for possessed ones; lucky they retain all the skills the mortal they possessed had). This is why we plan for our army to have a wide variety of mobile creatures

Human conscripts, orc thugs, undead, golems, monsters... (the latter 3 produced by specialist demons)
Demons were intended to be our rear guard only at first but then we figured out the tower can be moved, which is the only way they would be useful in combat.
>>
>>29408443
I agree, this would be really useful so we know ahead of time, like if we get notification a day in advance on twitter about the new quest
>>
>>29408459
>The possessed demons have extended range from the tower compared to regular summons but are still limited in their range from the tower.

>>
>>29408482
oh, you are right. I just found it by searching this thread.
>>
wait guys
if we are going to possess all the defenders why not try to possess the leadership too? Make up an excuse for the mayor or other high ranking officials to come to the tower.

Also, the Knights can't be the only defense that the town had. Where are the regular soldiers, the archers?
Might le them into the tower too, telling them we are turning it into a fort, barracks or Garrison
>>
>>29408671
Remember what Eluria told us, most demons who possess a body just come to eat the soul. I'd rather have some loyal human followers than a demon that came for a quick snack.
>>
>>29408735
I actually asked a question related to this in the previous thread. That is to say, just what can we do to ensure that demons are loyal to us.

>Loyal is probably not the right word. The demons that are summoned to the mortal plane are those that 'want' to be there for whatever reason. Demons like Elyva prefer the moral realm since in the demon realm they have little powers. Others just enjoy the change of pace. Demons are very long lived and sometimes want a bit of adventure. Someone like Krus probably just wanted to feast on a soul and patiently wait until they can return to the demon realm and be summoned again.
>It is possible to have demons loyal to you but it takes a while. They are quite vain and giving them a lot of gifts tends to help their disposition.

This was the answer given.
>>
>>29408796
So hey, we probably made some headway in making Elura more loyal to us by taking her suggestion and building that bath.

Who knows what Nix and Krus would like.
>>
>>29408671
its actually been suggested before that we get regular guards too and the mayor.

no specifics were given but we can get the guards by claiming we need some manpower to move some heavy stuff.

Alternatively, they could set up a blockade around the tower and then at night while they sleep the knights who are "guarding the camp" drug them and then drag them inside.
>>
>>29408824
>no specifics were given but we can get the guards by claiming we need some manpower to move some heavy stuff.
Rather than send guards, they'd probably send some of the town's builders instead. Which is great. Imps are hardly worker material.
>>
>>29408796
>They are quite vain and giving them a lot of gifts tends to help their disposition.
So we make the tower a kind of resort and day spa?

we really are making it a tourist trap, for both mortals and demons..
>>
>>29408838
If we have the knights lure in the mayor first, he could be possessed and order some guards to do it... for safety reasons.

although you are right its getting convoluted, once we have the knights we should just have them get the mayor and guard captain then order the guards to guard the tower to prevent anyone from entering it and claiming it. At night we can snatch and possess the guards
>>
>>29408796
>Gifts
so, basically we pay them gold stipend to keep them happy.
>>
>>29408863
I think we should stop at the knights and maybe guard captain for now.
>>
>>29408874
Sure. 'Course, they'd probably want something to spend the gold ON.

So......the town is a trading port, right?
>>
>>29408880
yea... you know what, with the knights, guard captain, mages, and the mayor we could have our fake resurrection, make a random explosion as a demonstration on a nearby forest, and then have the leaders officially surrender.
The low tier guards are not going to just run off on their own to fight us, and if they do we get free souls.

>>29408893
its in a forest and has been banned from trading for a long time by the old overlord. However, we are planning to allow it to trade and it would be a good place for them to spend their gold on knicknacks, whores, ale, or whatever else suits their fancy.
>>
>>29408893

we make them spend the gold in the tower/resort
>>
>>29408908
>However, we are planning to allow it to trade and it would be a good place for them to spend their gold on knicknacks, whores, ale, or whatever else suits their fancy.

If we do, there must be strict and stringent condition ensuring the safety of the town and its people/wares, we don't want to fuck it over because some demon though it would be fun.
