Today is a repeat of yesterday. Tomorrow will be a repeat of today. No matter what happens in your life, it seems like you've always got someone telling you what to do. Today has been a handful. Not only have you had to go to the UGN's local headquarters for an interrogation and examination, but you had to deal with the awful, awful acting of your new unwanted companion, Claire. The UGN agent is currently staring at her reflection in a shop window, fussing over her bangs. You flip open your phone and try to figure out where in this mountain of texts your classmate, Manaka Ayase, asked you to wait for her.

Ugh, it's like she can't go three words without a misspelling or an emoticon...are all teenage girls like this? As the thought crosses your mind, you look over to Claire, who appears to be striking an awkward pose you think you've seen in BoBo's Strange Journey.

Suddenly, your phone vibrates and you nearly drop it in surprise. You rarely receive any sort of mail, and even then, you never have your phone on you when it happens. It's another text from Ayase...

...hrry? Does she mean Harry? As in Harold Yeager? As in that creepy stalker she has? ...Well, if that's what she wants to do, it's none of your business is it? You could always head home and take it easy. Yeager is a freak, but the UGN has told you he's not a problem. Besides, if you head home, you could probably ditch your babysitter early today. Even if you'd rather not turn in already, you can always kill time at the arcade again. It was nice to go back after so long.

>Go check on Ayase anyway. You don't trust Yeager one bit.
>Head home. Anything to get Claire off your back.
>Go to the arcade. You deserve to enjoy yourself.

You decide that whatever Ayase decides to do in her spare time is her own business. If she wants to spend time with her weird stalker, maybe it will do both of them some good. Getting some attention might make 'Harry' less of a complete creep and Ayase will finally find some boy willing to put up with her for more than fifteen minutes at a time. You return Ayase's text with a simple 'Good luck' and pray that whatever gods of love exist keep those two nutcases together and away from you.

As for yourself, you have your own stalker to deal with, and swiftly make your way back to your house. Though Claire refuses to leave the general vicinity of your house before 10:30PM, she hasn't been brazen enough to enter your home just yet. This is a fact you intend to exploit as you make your way home early for a change.

"Oh? Were you not going to meet with Ayase today, Captain?"

Of course, heading home early won't keep Claire from pestering you along the way. The agent follows just a few feet behind you, probably blankly staring at the back of your head as usual.

"You are headed the wrong way. Unless...ah, forgive me. I understand."

What does she think she understands this time?

"The prospect of having flowers in each hand was too much for a cherry boy like you," Claire strides alongside you and puts her hands up to her cheeks, "But don't worry. I will keep the bashful, cute side of Captain to myself."

It's hard to keep from rolling your eyes, but you make it back to your home otherwise unmolested. Claire waves to you as you slam the door shut in her face and collapse on your couch.

Now that you're home, you can finally take it easy and...

So a Chimera high school student, So did you get to the part in the core book adventure where you survived a bus explosion?
>>
>>29376036
Your eyes fall on a thick book on your kitchen table. The UGN Field Agent's Primer. Supposedly, it has the information on the basics of the Renegade, the Overed, and the UGN itself. You don't really want to read it, it looks long and boring, but you can't stay in the dark forever about these things. You sigh and pick yourself up off your couch. After grabbing a glass of water, you sit down with the book and begin to leaf through it.

As you thought, the book is very informative, but dense, dry, and full of overly complex jargon and technical terms. You can't even begin to make out what these diagrams on the vectors of Renegade on inorganic objects actually means. There's not much in the way of a useful glossary either.

This is going to take you all night...
>>
>>29376522
---

You find it hard not to yawn in class. Whatever superhuman vitality the Renegade is granting you doesn't extend to your sleep schedule. Your eyes are bloodshot and you find yourself dozing despite your best efforts. Damn that book. You managed to get through most of it, and you gleaned what you think is a working knowledge of the Renegade and related topics. While it's hard to remember it off-hand, you're confident you could remember the information if something was in front of you.

As you doze off once more, you feel something slimy hit the back of your neck. You instinctively clasp your hand over it and bring it in front of your face to inspect it. It's...a spitball? You turn around and see Claire with a straw in her mouth. She points to the ball in your hand and makes a strange series of gestures. You think she wants you to open it. Meanwhile, the bell for break period rings and Professor Earl leaves the room. You see Ayase get up and start to walk over to you.

>Go ahead and read the note quickly. You don't want to hold it for any longer than you have to.
>This slobbery thing can wait. Apparently Ayase wants to talk.

Swallowing your disgust, you start to unfold the slobbery piece of paper. Your senses must still be sharpening, as even from this spit-soaked scrap of paper, you can smell cinnamon candies and vanilla ice-cream in Claire's saliva. She must only eat junk food.

Although the ink is splotchy due to the sheer quantitiy of spit Claire has apparently coated the paper with, you're still able to read the note:

'Wild Card.

I have contacted my Instructor. She will arrive tomorrow morning.

Prepare yourself.'

...What, that's it? Couldn't she just tell you this normally? You begin to roll up the wet note and think about how to best give Claire a piece of your mind when Ayase speaks up.

"Um...you know, about yesterday..."

You swing around to look at Ayase, still upset with Claire. Apparently, your displeasure is still written all over your face because Ayase yelps and jumps back.

"N-nevermind! It's nothing!"

She quickly heads out of the room, leaving you with a sticky hand and thoroughly confused. Just as you expected, Yeager is already down your throat.

"Hey, what's the big deal!? You say something to Manaka? I thought I told you to steer clear of her!"

You really don't want to deal with this...

You really shouldn't have to deal with this. Yeager keeps breathing down your neck, Ayase bothering you then deciding to go run off, the UGN keeping tabs on your life, this damn virus or whatever the hell it is messing with your mind, and Claire...being Claire. It's not fair. You don't deserve any of this. All you've ever wanted was for people to just shut up and leave you alone. What right do they have to come into your life and start shaking everything up.

"...Hey! Hey jackass, I'm talking to you!"

You lose it. You slam your fist on your desk, shattering the plywood and bending the aluminium. You mean to tell Yeager to shut up, to leave you alone, but all that escapes your mouth is a guttural shout. No. No, a shout isn't right. It's more like a roar. It's a glorious moment of catharsis. All the stress you've built up over the past few weeks just tumbles out of your mouth as you glare at Yeager.

He stops and takes a step back. Realizing what you've done, your eyes scan the room. Everyone must be looking at you right now. But they aren't. Actually, it's more like they're refusing to look at you. Their eyes seem to be stuck on the ground, in the books, at the ceiling, and pretty much anywhere but your direction. You feel a hand grab your arm.

"Captain, we must speak."

Much more insistent than she usually is, Claire yanks you up out of your seat and into the hallway. She doesn't stop dragging you until you reach the janitor's closet, at which point she opens it up and throws you inside. After joining you, she shuts the door behind her, leaving you in the dark.
>>
>>29377714
You begin to speak but the sudden appearance of a flare of light shuts you up. Claire holds up a single finger, over which a brightly shining ball of light hovers.

"Captain. I understand this is all new to you, and so you will be given lenience. However, I suggest against using your powers for petty squabbles in the future."

What? But you just...

"While it was very exhilarating, you must refrain from dominating your classmates in such a manner. Are we understood?"

>Agree. It's not like you have a choice.
>Disagree. Yeager is an Overed too, he was asking for it.

>Make feeble excuses.

You try to explain that you didn't mean for any of this to happen. The stress just kept piling up and--

"I understand."

Really? You breathe a sigh of relief and start to unwind. Finally, Claire is being reasonable about something for once. You decide that maybe you've had her wrong this entire time. Sure, she's a little weird, but she's at least able to understand--

"It's been getting backed up, hasn't it? I've noticed you haven't taken care of yourself since I have arrived. It's only natural for a young man to want to let loose all over somebody."

With her usual blank face, does some kind of strange pose and winks at you.

"Even so, letting it out on your classmates is still no good, Captain. Should you feel the need to vent your stress, please make use of me. UGN agents like myself have been specially chosen for our receptiveness and soothing talents."

You take everything nice you've ever thought about Claire back. Sighing in disgust, you push past her and out of the closet. You return to class and try to explain away your broken desk to your homeroom teacher.

You quickly type out 'not now' and send the text without a second thought. You shut your phone and head home, thankful to not have some maladjusted teenager trying to be your best friend.

It's been a long time since you walked home alone. Your enhanced senses let you take in the sights, sounds, and smells in ways you never have before. This peaceful feeling of not needing to go anywhere or see anyone is something you wish you could hold on to forever.

"As expected..."

But of course it couldn't last. Even before this newcomer spoke, you detected their smell. They smell of cheap cologne, chewing tobacco, and blood. You turn around to see a man in a cheap suit walking toward you. The yellow lenses of his sunglasses and clearly bleached hair strike you as especially gaudy, and you have to suppress the urge to laugh at him.

"I've been watching you for a while now, so I knew if I was able to get that little UGN pest away, you'd just come straight home. Thanks for being so predictable."

You tense up. If this person isn't with the UGN, they must be...

"Exactly right. I am from False Hearts. That government run trash would have you believe we are simple terrorists, but in reality, we are fighting for our freedoms. You of all people should know what it's like to be monitored by that group. It's humiliating, isn't it?"

Well, you can't deny that...

"We don't have long, so I'll be to the point. Come with me and join False Hearts. It'll be best for everyone."

You tell the man where he can shove his False Hearts and keep walking towards your house.

"Wrong answer."

Before you know it, you've already been thrown to the ground. The pavement cracks underneath the sheer weight of the blow, and the wind is knocked out of you. A giant, crimson claw holds you to the ground by your throat. Your eyes follow the arm of the claw a full 20 meters away, all the way back to its source: the False Hearts agent.

"I was hoping you'd join us while you still had your wits about you, but I guess that was just being too greedy," Blood begins to seep out from his eyes, mouth, and ears, and it coats the rest of his body, which begins to gain mass at an incredible rate, "I guess I'll just have to kill you a couple dozen times first. You'll be positively giddy to join after that."

The pressure increases, and you feel your windpipe collapse. Panicking, you summon up all your strength and break free of the claw's grip, jumping back. You put a hand to your crushed throat and feel your body already healing. In just moments, you can breathe again, the bruises vanishing into nothing.

The monster of a man steps forward, his body now completely engulfed by blood and almost twice his previous size and stature. Wings have sprouted from his body, and a large, spiked tail drags behind him. Each of his four limbs ends in six talons, all formed of solid blood.

"Oh? Not many new Overeds can withstand an attack from Diablos. You should be proud of yourself."

A twisted face with glowing yellow eyes slides over the agent's, Diablos', human face.

"Now, let's see if you can dance with the devil!"

[ Combat is performed via a simple rock-paper-scissors triangle. You, as the players, have the advantage of always acting after your opponent or opponents. Through cues in the descriptive text, you must determine which of three tactics to adopt. Adopting the correct tactic causes you to gain a point. Adopting an incorrect tactic will cause your opponent to gain a point. If you both select the same tactic, both you and your opponents gain a point. All combat takes place over three exchanges, each worth one point. The first to gain 2 out of the 3 points is the victor. While losing a fight will not typically cause the quest to end, it will lead to unpleasant and usually severe consequences. The three tactics are as follows:

Strike: Strikes are fast, precision based attacks. Any attack which seems like it may rely on overwhelming speed or pinpoint accuracy is likely a Strike. As a general rule of thumb, most mundane gunfire is considered a Strike. Strikes defeat Crashes, but are defeated by Guards.

Crash: A Crash is a highly telegraphed, but extremely powerful blow. Any attack which seems to rely mostly on the brute strength or overwhelming force is likely a Crash. As a general rule of thumb, most thrown objects, like trees or boulders, are considered Crashes. Crashes defeat Guards, but are defeated by Strikes.

Guard: A Guard is a defensive posture or evasive stance which is used to set up a counter-blow. Any attack which appears as if it could be a feint or which seems to be a stalling tactic is likely to be a Guard. Guards defeat Strikes, but are defeated by Crashes. ]

Diablos roars and leaps at you ripping up the ground with his claws as he advances. His gleaming eyes never leave your form as you jump backwards, evading his attacks. Finally, you can evade no more and intercept his claws with your hands. You feel the bones in your wrist break from the sheer force of his attacks, but you refuse to let go.

"Good! Good! I almost wouldn't believe you'd never been in a fight before!"

His tail whips around and slashes out the tendons in your legs. No longer able to stand, you slump forward on your knees as Diablos laughs wildly. The False Hearts agent then leaps into the sky, high above you hovering a bit due to his wings, then dive bombs towards you. Your legs haven't healed yet, and he's going to be here any second...

You can't move your legs yet, but that doesn't mean you're defenseless. You watch Diablos as he closes in toward you, biding your time until the right moment. You can't see the moment, but something deep within you suddenly surges. You throw yourself to the side, rolling as best as you are able.

Diablos crashes into the pavement, you can see the blood exoskeleton he has made for himself crack and buckle under the strain. A slight tingling in the back of your legs tells you that you can move again, and you leap from your position towards the stunned devil.

You knock Diablos to the ground with relative ease and begin to pummel his face. Each time you strike him, your hands grow more and more gnarled, your claws emerging from their dormant state. You eventually slam your taloned fist down onto his skull, hearing a sickening crunch as you do so.

...Is it over?

"Not bad." Diablos's tail once more catches you off guard, impaling you. Stunned by the pain, you can do nothing but grasp the spiked appendage as it lifts you up off the ground. Blood spills from your lips as you struggle to breathe.

Diablos stands up, his crushed head filling back out. He wipes the spilled brain matter from his head as if it was nothing and laughs.

"You're pretty good! I'm going to love breaking you!"

Ten more tails sprout from Diablos's back, each tipped with a long blade of bone. They shoot out from behind hem and begin to stab you over and over again. You can hardly see them move, but the searing pain in your body lets you know just how many times you've been stabbed. Shit...if this keeps up, even you'll die...

>>
>>29380922
I think it boils down to:
Skillful action/attack
Strong attack
Defensive action

-with good one-word names.

We're seeing that we are getting hosed along the way since Diablos is pretty tough, but we're doing alright in the overall fight since we're trying to make good tactical choices.
>>
>>29380922
The real question is how the system plays with syndromes with support/manipulation power sets, like Solaris, Orcus and Neumann.

>>29380985
...that's pretty much exactly what I said, dude.
>>
>>29380765
>Guard Successful

You just have to endure it. There's just no choice at this point. You try to close off your mind and focus on just staying alive. Again and again, Diablos runs you through with his tails, tearing out bone, sinew, organs, anything they can find and dig out of your helpless form.

"Done already? I suppose I shouldn't have expected better from a newborn like you."

You can feel Diablos relax. Now's your chance. You will your hollowed out frame to move just one more time, grasping the largest tail, the one which is holding you up in the air. With all the strength you can muster, and more than you ever though possible, you rip the blade off of Diablos's tail.

Dialbos howls and you drop to the ground, but not before throwing the severed tail as hard as you can into his chest. It pierces through the armor of blood and rips out the other side, where it continues for several blocks. Diablos freezes for just a moment.

As you thought. Even an Overed as strong as he is finds it hard to go without a heart. In that moment, before he can recover, you push your skeletal frame to stand one more time. You raise your clawed hand, the only one you can still move, over his head. Extending your talons as far apart as they will go, you slash downward with all your might.

In a single blow, you chop Diablos into pieces, the slashed bits of his body falling away and melting into a pool of blood. You see the blood take on a life of its own and slither away froom you at a breakneck pace.

Damn. Even after all that, he's still alive...

You however, are in no condition to run right now. Totally exhausted, you fall over and lose consciousness.

I had planned to do all the scenarios, letting /tg/ do what they will with them, but seeing as scans are now out, I'll have to change up my plans after the end of this scenario. You are having a wonderful dream. You are a kid again, and it's Satuday morning. Your parents are actually home, and you're sitting down with your father to watch BlastRanger, the favorite show of all young boys and girls. He's actually showing interest in the show, asking you about which characters do what and how it all works. You look over your shoulder and see your mother in the kitchen, preparing a breakfast of eggs, bacon, and pancakes, humming a tune to herself as she works. The sun is shining, and it's warm and pleasant.

You couldn't be happier.

You hear a knocking at the side door and look over. Through the glass, you see a little girl in a sundress. While you can't make out her face, you know it must be your best friend! She always comes to watch BlastRanger with you. You get up from your seat to go greet her. God, it's been forever since you saw her. You can't wait to see her again, even if it is a dream. You see her move her mouth.

"Wild Card."

Oh god.

"Captain."

Please no. Not now. Not yet.

"Wake up, Captain."

You open your eyes and sit up quickly. You look around the room and you see Claire sitting at the edge of your bed, looking at you. Your first thought is to your body, but you're once again unharmed. It's like nothing ever happened to you at all. As you fully become aware, you can smell another person in the house. A strong, sour smell of alcohol.

"That was close, Captain. Do not engage enemies on your own again. You are still unskilled. Of course, if you'd be willing to join with me, I'd be happy to teach you more of combat..."

...Who did Claire let in to your house? You spring from your bed, not bothering to find where you put your pants and rush towards the stairs in your shorts.

"Ah, Captain, wait I can expla--"

You can't be bothered to listen to Claire right now. You have to investigate this before it gets any worse. You leap down your staircase and look around, following the overwhelming smell of alcohol. You walk into the kitchen and peer around the corner to see the fridge door open and a long silver tail swishing about from behind it. You hear the clinking of glass bottles in your fridge. Already upset, you shout at the intruder, demanding they show themselves.

The tail stops moving, and you see a head pop out from behind the door. Golden eyes peer at you, and thick, silver eyebrows raise themselves in confusion.
>>
>>29382679

"Already up, huh? Was sure you'd be out for a hell of a lot longer, but I ain't that good a doctor. Gotta leave that to Void." The intruder kicks the door shut and approaches you, raising a bottle to her lips and taking a long drink. Clear liquid spills out from her mouth and stains her shirt. She appears to be wearing some kind of business suit and skirt, but from how sloppy and dishevelled it is, she clearly hasn't changed in several days.

God, the smell. That's gotta be the strongest alcohol you've ever encountered. You feel like you're going to vomit just from the vapor. The woman notices your discomfort and sighs, corking the bottle and sitting down on your counter. She runs a hand through her thick, silver hair and looks at you with displeasure.

"What? I can get as drunk as I like. Don't you start lecturing me before even saying hello."

You grunt. This must be another UGN goon. Claire finally joins you, stepping between the two of you and pointing to the new woman.

"Captain, this is Lunatic High. She is the one who taught me everything I know. Instructor Luna, this is Wild Card, my charge."

We need to talk to the Chief.
We aren't going to join False Hearts, and they probably aren't going to leave us alone..
But almost every single person we've met from the UGN is completely out of their mind, except for the Chief.

You're far too tired and it's far too early in the morning for something like this. Wordlessly, you turn around and head upstairs. In a haze, you find a spare uniform and get yourself dressed, washing your face and brushing your teeth as if nothing is wrong. After you're done, you head back downstairs and get yourself a nice hot cup of coffee. As the pot is readying itself, you can't help but notice Lunatic eyeing you with an amused expression on her face. Immediately, your eyes fall to her tail, which has continues to wag back and forth again. You've gotten over the smell somewhat, but having two uninvited guests in your house has still left you on edge. You ignore her and pour your cup of coffee, trying to drown out the smell of sweat and alcohol with an aromatic, columbian blend. After your third or fourth cup, you notice you're not feeling as peppy as you normally do and go for another.

"Don't even bother."

You see Lunatic taking another big drink from her bottle, her cheeks are completely flushed and she is laying her head on the table, grinning at you.

"Your body's finally gone into overdrive hasn't it? Bet you didn't even notice before now, but nothing that weak will ever affect you again. Say bye-bye to coffee, drugs, and all other substance abuse, Card."

You frown and stubbornly drink another cup. Even if you don't want it to be, it's true. You don't even feel a little bit of energy, and you've had a whole pot to yourself. You look at the empty pot, suddenly overcome with a feeling of loss.
>>
>>29383258
and her disappearance after the UGN picked her up is what led to his chronic depression
>>
>>29383281
"There, there, little boy, it's alright. Luna knows how you feel." Before you can react, her tail has worked its way up around the backside of your neck and is now rubbing against your cheeks. You'd think the smell would be unbearable but it's not. All you can think of is...

SOFT!!

So soft! You feel like you could lose yourself in this gentle feeling forever! It doesn't smell bad! In fact, it smells great! You feel your hand instinctively reach up to pet this glorious, supreme fur but you summon up all your will to put it back down.

You won't be swayed by things like this!

"Wow! What willpower on this boy! I'm impressed, Bullets. You got yourself a real man here!"

>Ask Claire where she was yesterday.

You get up and head over to your cabinet. The packages of coffee grounds are lined up neatly. You really did like your coffee. With great sadness, you take each package down from their shelf and drop them, one by one, into the garbage bin. You feel like you're burying a close friend, but there's just nothing to be done at this point. You reach over and grab your coffee pot, with the intent to throw it away too, and you glance over at Lunatic who is still drinking merrily. She looks at you and licks the extra drink from her lips.

"Curious? Well, this is actually made from Overed spit. Shining Void's, to be particular. You met her right? Nice gal. It takes something this strong to affect us at all," she takes a drink, "And even then, it wears off in a couple minutes."

You glance down at your coffee pot, considering what potential benefits the UGN may, in fact, have for you and your lifestyle.

"I know that look, but you can forget about it! I asked for coffee once and you don't want to know what she gave me!"

Without a second thought, you throw your now useless coffee pot into the trash. Grabbing your bag, you head out for school, eager to leave this place behind. As usual, Claire is just a few steps behind you. You hear Lunatic shambling about, but she never makes it past the door.
>>
>>29383763
Everything else goes pretty much like normal. Ayase is absent today, but Yeager is here so you don't suspect foul play on his part.

And that brings you to your current situation, during lunch period. You tried to escape to the practically abandoned boy's bathroom as usual, but Claire followed you. Cramped into the small stall, Claire nibbles on her sandwich and chocolate milk whilst leaning up against the door. This closeness is unusual especially in light of yesterday. Where the hell was she?

"I cannot apologize enough, Captain. Diablos distracted me with a double of himself. When I felled it, it turned out to merely be a decoy made of blood. I'm so ashamed." You can't tell if she really means that, since her face gives away nothing.

"I was sure I was doing what you wished, and keeping dangerous elements away from your independent-but-easy-going lifestyle."

>Well, at least she tried...
>You died several times because of that mistake!
>You can't even retort. You can only think about how many rumors this is going to spread...
>>
>>29383671
Yeah, every syndrome has one or two powers that are just for aesthetics and showing off. For example, Bram Stokers can create homunculi out of blood. One of their powers lets them make a whole crowd of them that are useless for anything more than an entourage, but don't count against their limit for servants. Or Balors can get the ability to fly really cheaply, but at such slow speed that it's only practical use is looking cool. Morpheus syndromes can make awesome food out of thin air. There's a bunch of neat little powers like that.

Well, at least she tried...

Claire drops her sandwich and drink on the ground. Immediately she clasps her hands over your own and looks into your eyes.

"This was the first time you have ever given me such praise. I will not forget this day, Captain, even if a hundred years were to pass. I will endeavour to work much, much harder to protect you and your way of life. Next time I will not leave you to fight a battle on your own, no matter what the circumstances are."

You can see something shining in her eyes. If you had to put an name to it, it would be 'expectations'. ...Yeah, that's just great. Feeling incredibly awkward, something that has been bugging you since this morning comes to mind. Just how did you end up in your underwear? You know that Diablos practically shredded your clothes in that fight, but you still had most of your pants together.

"Yes, that was me. I fetched you a new pair from the convenience store and dressed you myself."

What? She didn't do anything else, did she?

"...Well, I attempted to stimulate the growth of your soon-to-be luxurious fur. Instructor Luna told me that it would come in much faster with tender care and massages."

You feel very dirty right now. Giving a pained smile to Claire, you immediately leave the bathroom, fighting back the urge to scream with every fiber of your being. Not only is she going to be sticking even closer to you, but now she's touching you in your sleep!

When class finally lets out, you're in a daze. You can vaguely make out Claire saying something to you as you stare out the window, wondering where your freedom and dignity went. What is she saying?

>You have to go train with Luna. That's right. Lunatic High came here to teach you to use your powers with more control, didn't she?

"That's right, Captain. The Chief has requested that you help me transport a few key items."

Well, that can't be too bad.

You find yourself once more in the gothic lobby of UGN HQ. The butlers look at you with upturned noses, placing bag after bag, suitcase after suitcase, into your waiting hands. Just a month before now, this would have been an unbearable burden, but now these bags feel as light as a feather, even though they are piled higher than your head. Heavy or not, this certainly counts as more than 'a few key items'.

Out of the corner of your eye, you see Claire and Shining Void talking to each other. Your new knowledge of just what Shining Void does with her free time causes you to be even more anxious in her presence, and you immediately look the other way. Everyone, everyone here is some kind of psychopath.

You feel a slight sting as something slaps you on the back of your head. You turn around to see the Chief staring up at you, waving what looks like a fencing foil in your direction. Wow, she really is short. You can tell she's a little older than you are, but she barely comes up to your shoulders like this. And she's wearing heels!

"Good afternoon, Wild Card. I'm told you defeated Diablos on your own yesterday."
>>
>>29384770
Uh oh. Are you in trouble? You know you weren't really supposed to use your powers unauthorized. However, the Chief puts her hands on her hips and gives you a warm smile.

"Most impressive! Diablos is an elite agent of False Hearts. Many of our own have fallen to his attacks. I may have to try harder to recruit a splendid Overed like yourself."

Please don't. You try to speak up and protest, but she slaps the foil down on your lips. Even if it's not going to leave a bruise, she should know that hurts.

"Now, now, don't be modest. Not many Illegals earn my praise, after all," She flips some hair off her shoulder before continuing, "Now then, how does the saying go? Right. 'I have some good news and some bad news. Which would you like first?'"

The bad news, of course. If there are any problems, you need to know about them as soon as possible.

"My, how bold. I would not think you were a civilian with such an attitude. I see Speeding Bullets is not overstating your machismo."

She's what?

"Moving along, Diablos's attack on you yesterday confirms that there is a new False Hearts cell in this city. Diablos is a hunter, you see. His job within that organization is to find unaffiliated Overeds, preferably before we can, and bring them to their cause by any means possible. Hundreds of Overed all across the globe have been kidnapped and rendered insane by his schemes. That he is here means there is more than the Overed we know about at risk, but you in particular are at increased risk. After such a display of power, you are now a priority target for False Hearts. They will expend considerable resources to see that you are captured and subverted to their cause. We're placing you under high security surveillance."

You thought you were already under surveillance, what does this new level of security entail?

"Your activities will be under my direct supervision. I will not allow you to fall into enemy hands. Your home shall serve as my new base of operations until this crisis has passed."

...So what is the good news?

"Why, you have the luxury of entertaining me, of course! You shall be handsomely compensated for my lodging and expenses, as well as the privilege of my company. Ah," she holds a hand to her mouth, "Don't be alarmed. Speeding Bullets shall continue her normal duties. I wouldn't dare take this assignment from her."

She smiles drawing circles in the air with her foil.

"Are you not excited?"

No. You're not.

((Let me try to get some coffee. This 'five more hours' thing is getting tougher))

Ha, so cute. People trying to deny that every single one of these dames isn't out of their mind.

>>29385175
I liked the chief at first. But if she keeps up that foil shit, she's going on the list.
>>
Every single character in this quest is fucking insufferable.
>>
>>29385185
Japan rule #7: Try to live a quiet normal life, and you'll be neck deep in troublesome women.
>>
>>29385052
>>29385095
No! Fuck! I didn't mean an additional crazy. I wanted a replacement!
>>
>>29385213
But in enjoyable ways. I'd hate to have them be part of my life, but forcing our dear Captain to have to put up with their shit makes for delightful schadenfreude.
>>
>>29385175
She was just swinging a foil into our face. That counts as an irritant.
>>
>>29385200
No one should have so many problems in their life that they need an actual List.
>>
>>29385185
Literally rank. Though hopefully the presence of the Chief will lead to Lunatic High taking better care of her hygiene for the time being.
>>
>>29385200
Oh, they are out of their mind, we just get stuck with the 'good guy' crazies as a test.
A) We survive and go on without surpervision.
B) Be we go crazy/turn, and are put down.
C) We cave and join up, presumably because we've gone mad.
>>
>>29385213
I try.

Anyway, hands up, who wants to keep going? I've got a cup of coffee and several more packets of instant brew if I need to, but otherwise, I'm about ready to turn in.
>>
>>29385313
I'll keep on if you keep on.
>>
>>29385313
I'm up for it. Though it is getting late over here. A few hours at most, then I need to crash.
>>
>>29385313
I'm game.
>>
>>29385313
I keep going.
>>
>>29385267
well, the Captain wouldn't actually keep a list, because that implies he was going to do something about the people on the list. It is just a mental space reserved for people whose personalities have proven to be abnormal

>>29385313
I stand ready.
>>
>>29385328
Same here.
>>
>>29385313
I wanna keep going
>>

I'm not going to bed for quite a while.

Well damn, I was hoping you'd opt out. Alright, let me see if I can put together a post. If it looks like shit, I'll call it a night here having hit a new record.

Your house is a hell of a lot more rowdy now. You thought it was just going to be the Chief moving in, but a full company of butlers came with her, tending to her every need, rearranging your furniture, giving you disparaging looks and crude comments when your back is turned. They know you can hear them. They must!

Your kitchen has been turned into what must pass for mission command in these parts, the Chief sitting at the head of the table, sipping tea out of a teacup that you've been assured is worth more than your entire house and everything in it (yourself included). Around her are several attendant butlers, Lunatic High, and Claire, who is busy brushing Lunatic's tail. You would try to watch TV or something to distract yourself, but that too has been appropriated into your kitchen, with the Chief using it to monitor the security cameras they have set up across your neighborhood.

Instead, you've tried to find solace in reading some of your old comic books. You haven't touched these in ages. They're...not as good as you remember. As you finish another issue, one of the butlers taps you on the shoulder and directs your attention to the Chief, who waves at you. You suppose you shouldn't keep her waiting.

As you sit down at the table, the Chief offers you a cup of tea. Feeling the impending pressure from her staff, you accept and take a drink. The Chief, meanwhile, picks up one of your comic books and begins to leaf through it.

"How charming! I consider myself a avid fan of literature, even something as common as this, but I have never seen this book before. Tell me, what is it called?"

Appending "darkness" to anything is a reference to To-Love-Ru: Darkness, an already borderline hentai manga becoming even more lewd as it moved to monthly publication.

...You're not sure if she should really be reading this. Heart-Beat: Darkness is a seriously high-level boy's comic book for men.

"Is that its name? How interesting!"

You reach for the comic. There's no way you can let her read that out in front of everybody. Heart-Beat: Darkness is a comic best read alone, in the dark, with nobody around to see. She lashes out with her foil and slaps your hand away, continuing to read.

"Such lovely character designs. I love this girl, Lulu, yes? She's so pretty! And this little sister character, Cherry? How cute! Whoever this artist is, I simply must commission him for a portrait of myself."

You watch on with a pained expression as the Chief flips through the pages. At first she seems delighted, giggling every once and a while and giving a broad smile. However, soon afterwards, her expression shifts to confusion. She begins to flip through the pages much more slowly, reading the book with a careful, deliberate eye. Her face becomes flushed, her hands begin to tremble each time she must turn the page. Eventually, it becomes too much for her, and she shuts the book, holding it up in front of her beet-red face.

"W-well...I'm afraid this is simply inappropriate for a boy your age. I shall have to take this from you. All of it. From the beginning."

The Chief immediately gets up and goes about collecting the rest of your books in a great haste, even swatting away her butlers as they try to help her.
>>
>>29386023

Warily, you turn an eye to Lunatic and Claire. A look of sheer amusement crosses Lunatic's face, and she begins to chuckle.

"It seems you have always been host to such wild passions, Captain. As expected of you. I am very impressed," Claire says, and she begins to clap.

"Yes, yes! Three cheers for the wildman!" Lunatic bursts out laughing, slapping the table and gasping for air.

This isn't how you wanted your evening to end at all.

TO BE CONTINUED

>>29386088
There's only one easy way to tell if Claire's serious. If we reacted with enthusiasm to her comments and she's just been messing with us the whole time, it'll ruin her fun and she'll stop. Of course, if she's serious we're fucked. In every sense of the word.
>>
So next session tomorrow? Couple days? Next week?

How big is Captains house if she brought her house staff with her? Are they going to be sleeping there, because if so I hope she's covering their rent.

Considering how strongly she reacted to such little praise before, I'd wager she is acting sincerely. The problem is that her normal is abnormal for us.

My first instinct is that Claire really just doesn't know any better. She already finished her 8 years, maybe she grew up with UGN, and her only knowledge of boys is from manga, compounded by what she's learned about Chimaera.
>>
>>29386163
Claire seems to believe boys are on part with mythical animals or something.
