You sit close to Robin. After everything that's happened, it's good to be near someone familiar.

You decide to let your Pokemon out. A free meal is a free meal, and they've earned it. Devon and Houndour seem the most famished. Vlad just latches on to poffin and sinks his fangs in. He makes a cute sucking noise.

You're about to release Horsea when Robin stops eating long enough to speak up. "Thank you for everything Vance. I don't know what we would have done without you."

You look over to Robin to see she's completely fallen for his nice guy routine. You can practically see the sparkles in her eyes as she looks at him. That idiot, just because he helped us doesn't mean he's necessarily a nice guy. Even if he is She's know him what, a day? You hope that look she's giving him is just a lot of gratitude, and nothing more.

"Yeah, thanks." you say to him. Manners don't hurt, right? You release Horsea. At first she looks like she's about to restart the battle she had earlier, but once the food hits her eye she falls in line. That was easy. You're able to reach over and pet her as she eats.

Vance interjects again. "I promised Robin here that I'd make sure you're alright. You'll still need several more treatments just to be sure. I was eventually planning on heading in that direction soon anyway. I don't mind leaving a little ahead of schedule."

There's a lot of talk about what pokemon people would prefer to see, so I'll bring up something that is irritating me. Horsea. How the fuck are we going to use that on land? People say it's great for the type advantage against the fire gym, but in this slightly more realistic setting, how the fuck is that thing going to be useful at all as it flops around? I say we release the fucker and get an amphibious water type, something that is more useful in more situations.

Unless of course someone can can explain to me how Horsea can be used in a fire gym with no water around.

Am I the only one who would much rather just roll for a pokemon instead of picking one out ahead of time? Planning out the entire path and then have it happen kind of kills the fun of things like this for me.

Hopefully the conflicting attitudes in regards to newer generations don't get too heated. There are already a lot of things here with the potential to cause arguments.

Diving back in to catch that Corsola might be a good idea, I'm pretty sure they can move around on land. And one could argue destiny lead us to that pokemon just as much as the Horsea.

I think she might fight as some sort of sitting duck, just firing her attacks and tanking the damage resisted. No Water might mean she/he won't be able to dive for cover or swim from one position to another in a vie to overmaneuver her/his foes.

I'm imagining Horsea laying on it's side getting the shit kicked out of it as it fails to be able to fire water accurately from a laying down position. I imagine Horsea would have the same usefulness as a Magikarp in this scenario.

Sure, if I'm making a competitive team then I will do that. When I'm role playing a street urchin who has barely any knowledge of pokemon, this is just metagaming. And when everything we plan just falls into our lap, it cheapens the experience for me. I think part of the fun role playing in a setting like pokemon is overcoming challenges with the pokemon you are given. Pokemon are like friends, and you rarely choose who you befriend.

If we need to use Destiny on land, we can just hold it and point at the enemy to attack.

This setting is supposed to be a more realistic adaptation. I'll admit that it's still supposed to be cartoony, but even in the cartoon I don't think Horsea would have actually been "useful" out of water. Just because he can stand doesn't mean he should be used in a non-water battle.
