Previously: A team of young rockets deal with the enforcers of Kanto-City's law interferring with their deliverance of true justice.
A schism forms within the team, allowing for a delicate operation to suffer a vital error.
They split to chase the shades of past crimes. One borne of a human weapon, and the other of a monster's interference.

The murdered lie in Veridian wood, and the rockets report to their glorious leader whom nearly bites his tongue at the news of this breach. They are to find the beast by tomorrow, and they are dismissed he would say.
A tired young rocket retires for a nap to be awoken many hours later with her team snatched away by the guard for a flimsy violation of law.

The hound reports back, and tells her that the beast lies outside of the dome. With child-like naivete, they gear up and leave the dome for the first time amidst the night.

What they find is a village under control by a monster.

A young rocket falls victim to the assailant's hypnosis, her last thoughts of her friends...

A defiant hound blazes his way to save the young rocket, her captor turning her against her allies.
As the ash is burned to cinders, the only ones wholly unscathed are these two as the hellhound purges them with his unholy inferno.

All that stand against humanity will be burned from the world, be it monsters or humans.

>The Fallout
So Devon killing these is a bad thing.
>>
>>29354587
Not necessarily. It may just mean that it was inevitable that contact with these people would result in something unsavory.
>>
>>29354646
Our mind is most likely going to be fix by someone who is a esper and they will know what happened especially that they were victims.
>>
Back!
Aright.
Where did we leave off...
>>
>>29354790
Devon was running like a scared little girl from a Heracross with a restrained Ceru on his back and really starting to feel a little the worse for wear because of the arrowhead in his kidney
>>
>>29354790
Sleep powder, running away from Heracross.
Ring a bell?
>>
He's going to fall asleep again. We are never going to leave the rapevillage.
>>
>>29354833
>>29354790

we also contemplating blowing the village's repel tech

Prof said we'd use the volt orbs we have now

and then we asked if the old ones be enough to explode or have enough charge to get us back to the dome

but you were busy counting sheep
>>
Might want to tweet that you've started.
>>
>>29354903
Nah let leave some of them alive so other Rangers can capture them alive.
>>
>>29354903
You could use the old ones, yet they may fizzle out instead of detonating correctly.

It's a choice of screwing over the village 100% or having the charge to make it all the way back to the dome.
>>
>>29354957
>It's a choice of screwing over the village 100% or having the charge to make it all the way back to the dome.
Are we still playing as Devon?

Because there's no choice at all if we're Devon.

Fuck this village
>>
>>29354957
>Have the charge to make it all way back to the dome
Let's not forget they have nowhere to go.
>>
>>29355001
Devon has shown enough discipline in the past to be expected to complete the mission.
>>
>>29354957
I don't really fancy our chances on pulling off blowing up the repel tech and getting back to the dome.

And if we use the old ones they might fizzle, and without the distraction that blowing up the tech might cause getting out will be difficult as hell.

Head home.
>>
>>29355072
exactly my point.

I'm just working on a different definition of "the mission" from you.
>>
>>29354957
WHAT IS THE VILLAGE POWERING ITS TECH WITH?

BLOW IT UP USING THAT!
>>
>>29354957
Just heading home seems to be the best option.
>>
>>29354957
is there enough charge left for our repel tech with old volt orbs? (probably not).

do we need both our repel techs on? If we just kept Ceru on us the whole way and switched out the 2 orbs, could we make it to the dome?
>>
>>29355104
Yeah! They stole tech that runs on volt orbs. Use their volt orbs to blow it up.
>>
>>29355101
Er, the explosion wouldn't take out the village, mind you. Just the repel shield.

The Hypno could totally survive. And he's the most dangerous one there.
>>
Why do we have to blow it up? Devon's smart. Why can't he just break that shit or disconnect it?
>>
>>29355112
>>29355104
Did you forget that Heracross is still chasing us?
Devon is also carrying Ceru so slowing puuts them both in danger.
>>
>>29355143
Yeah, but if the village is gone, is Hypno gonna stick around?

And if Hypno flees, Ceru might snap out of it. Which would be good, because Devon is flagging.
>>
Ash and powder drifts through the night air, giving the resplendent visage of volcanic ash billowing through the wood from the hellfire that's begun to rage in the treeborne village.
The harsh beat of your adversary's wings hums as it circles around to target you again, out for blood.

Its hum draws closer as you lug the dead, stiff weight of your commanding "officer." The stupid cat muffles out protest now and again, gritting her teeth against her binding, the only thing keeping her from moving being her overly tired state.

"Shut up," You growl, breathing heavy, erupting flame from your maw now and again to burn away the pestilent powder that the moths have brought with them.

Distant roars signal that other monster must have caught wind of the fire as well.

This place won't stay stafe for long, yet that bug is after you. It's likely to catch you in the open, at the very least you have some sanctuary in cover.

Damn that thing to hell, it chased you all over this damn village and now it's on you again, only this time it's beyond angry with those burns. Aren't things supposed to fuck off when you burn them? What a damn pest.

It might make for good research material though, if that strength could be conferred to a ranger, right along with that ignorance it its condition, it'd be a powerful boon worth studying. Giovanni may even commend you for bringing it back in.

There's hope that the powder gets to it, but its rapid wingbeats nullify the chances of that happening.

>[] Run home with the cat, take the chance, the bug should let up or you could slip away. Smog could be a good cover.
>[] Leaving the cat here for now could be just as well, so you can double back and detonate the repel tech. Volt Orb systems are unstable after all. doesn't take a genious to mess it up. Though you could get caught in the blast with how big this grid is.
>[] Fight the bug, it's your only way out, and if you disable it, you'll have anm awesome present to offer Boss.

Cheese it, we're not in the best shape, and smog should help us.
>>
>>29355182
Volt Orb Systems are delicate.
Outright unplugging the system will cause them to detonate due to overcharge. It'd require separating the orbs- however many. or however large they are, to shut off the power source without detonation.

It's part of why Vermillion is a specialized quarter of primarily electricians with their rangers as a vanguard over those vital systems.
>>
>>29355178
I assume the Heracross is currently at 25-40% health.

We are really tired, however, and we just don't have the stamina to take it out for good. It feels greedy to try.

Leaving Ceru behind to take down the Repel Tech seems stupid, though, when the fire is doing the job already.

I vote we book it double time, gtfo of here, now and get back. The information we have is too important to lose or risk losing.

They'd probably evacuate but depending on their population size and how long it would take the Rockets to mobilize, we might be able to catch the tail end of the refugees or force their evac to be rushed and sloppy so they leave important evidence/files/etc behind.
>>

Geurilla warfare(2): (+2) to rolls made under cover of wood.
How many ranks does Devon have?
>>
>>29355302
Also they might leave the repel tech itself behind?

That stuff is expensive, if it's intact then Team Rocket could reclaim this village as an extra base.
>>
>>29355302
We have Sabrina who is insanely strong, capable of teleportation, and can easily track them down.
>>
>>29355358

Ah, Devon should have 2 ranks, though he'd need to get pretty close to surprise the bug.

Sanna and Goldie woulda been good here.

Goldie to befuddle and confuse the heracross.
Devon to burn it and have immunity to hypno's pure psi attacks.

Oh hey. This reminds me. Do Psychics count as flying when they're floating up in the air?
>>
You languish for a moment as you take in the smells of this place.
The fire, the ash, the smoke, the embers, the blood, the smell of cooked beetle. Like roasted almonds actually. You'll eat a whole cup-full from Fuschia when you get back to the dome. This whole ordeal's given you a severe craving to eat them out of spite.
The cat knows a person right? Or maybe that newbie Bat's good for something?

Taking a deep breath, you let your inner fire roar and emit a thick poisonous smog, ripe with your pain inducing toxins to intermingle with any flames it comes across. The important part is that the smoke is dark as a shadow, and covers your escape as you run through it with your useless commander.

She'll be fine once she stops convulsing in pain from the foul stuff. That is, if she breathes it in. Better that than dying to some indignant rape-beetle that's out for blood.

Your body reacts to the path you've already plotted out, trotting along the dirrt path of the village dipping past a house, your eyes take in a snap of the area, the traitors throeing water from a pond to smother your flames.

They reel with fear as they see you, screaming things like "Monster!" and "Outsider!" at you. Initially one pokes at you with a spear, another throws water at you.
The water pisses you off more than the spear as you shift to the side, slipping by the point as though it were a charging nido, blasting embers in the peasant's face, and advancing upon the water bearer, using him as a stepping stool as your canine claws tear into his flesh, giviving you the lift to kick off for extra ground.
The man screams in agony, as a woman calls for the guardian.

With a retch, you spew more smog to silence them into a hacking fit. The convulsions will take them soon. Who knows if a human'll last? Or how long.
>>
The hum of that monster's wingbeats draw near, and you slip around a tree, spewing more smog to hide your path, and casting out a halfhearted flamethrower top the side to give it a false lead. The sound of a tree being torn from the ground is heard some ways back, and then a frustrated, hissing roar as it smashes its new toy around. THe insolent things stupid beyond words. How is that thing supposed to be a "guardian?"

This place is starting to go down, though the fires are coming back under control.
More people you pass seem to be getting lazy from breathing in the powders, your burning breath the only thing defending you from its influence, yet your vicious still blurs, and your body begins to feel like lead.

Your mad dash eventually takes you out of the village, and into the rest of the wood, yet with no bearing on your location.

You snarl and keep going forward even as other monster draw closer to investigate the fire.
Shifting, you trigger your index, and interface it to turn your repel tech on as you sleep around them, breaking sight and effectively disappearing.

Your vision blurs again and you leg misses a push for a jump, unresponsive where it should have been.
>>
You fall forward, crashing into the ground and you instinctively try to roll it off, the foliage cutting and snaring you with whatever little cuts they can manage through your uniform.

Ceru tumbles away from you, her horn getting stuck in a tree even as she groans with frustration against her brace or whatever that damn cheat-device is.

You rise and y0ou find your arms starting to fail you, your body refusing to respond to you.
With quickening breath, you panic. No, not here, you can't fall asleep here, why won't your body move? What could it be? Why?

You feel the squelch of your wound as it stains through your uniform, the bleeding having only quickened from your mad dash. It's not enough to do this though, so...

Could you have been poisoned?

That's the worst thing, that's the worst thing that could've happened, you need to neutralize it.

No antidote, you'll need pecha, leaves or berries, some kind of herb, even if it's bitter.. Damnit, damnit. That whore, that stupid whore must've done it. You bet she prepared that arrow in silent resolve to screw you over. Or those moths, damn things came for you, to make sure you wouldn't leave here alive.
>>
Screw them. Screw them all.

Your arms tremble beneath your weight as your vision blurs once more, cold sweat beading upon your brow from the illness.
You need to make it back, you can't be another dead ranger, a rocket no less. Boss would write you off as another one for the obituary, no one would visit you at the damned Grave Spire. That's if they recover your body too.
You claw at the ground, swallowing hard as you grit your teeth, pushing the tears back.

You fought, and it's hard. Why the fuck should this need to happen to you.

Water slips from your eyes, and you look over to Cerulean as she barely struggles. She's only doing that to break free from that thing. She's going to kill you as soon as she does. She's a traitor now too, just like the rest of them.

If you're going to die here, she'll need to die as well.

For the rockets, for Kanto City. You could leave your index, they'd find it and they'd know what happened there.

You grit your teeth and growl with all of your fury and desperation, your inner flame rolling black in the back of your maw.

No way.

Now way in Reverse are you going to just die here like some kind of whelp. Screw this stupid brain of yours, killing Ceru won't grant you anything, she can be saved and so can you. Even if she ends up putting a half meter of ice inside of you it doesn't matter, you need to save her.

You'll save her and be a big damn hero of the rockets for saving this suckling babe that's become Boss's favorite.

Damn straight.

A fruit falls from the tree that Cerulean crashed into, a berry small and round, hard too from the looks of it, and it rolls toward you, almost as though Arceus himself has presented it to you.

You grab the fruit, squeezing it hard. You don't recognize what it is, and it's green. Not Pecha or Oran... not even Cheri.
It could just make you worse, or it could do something for you.

No time to experiment with it, down the hatch!
Gnawing into it, its juices explode into your mouth as a medley of flavors, that nearly overpowers you.

You feel the weakness continue to set in due to the advanced stages of the paralysis. You can only hope that the thing did something for you as you lose consciousness.
______________________

>Early Bird!

You awaken a short time later, the Cat bitch still stuck in the tree, barely breathing from that thing she's wearing.

You feel the numbness subside, and find yourself able to stand already, your monster physiology already metabolizing the berry. It goes so much slower for humans, one of the perks of being a ranger, or even a candidate.
>>
Your numbness, sleepiness, and whatever other poisons might've gotten into your systems have subsided entirely. Your wound's even healed a bit, no longer bleeding.

Your index confers that ten minutes have passed, and you've got about an hour and thirty-four minute's charge left on your R-tech.

You'd need to check the cat for hers, though it's likely that "brace" is draining her Volt Orb something fierce...

Celadon should be able to cultivate them. The problem is that certain berries only grow with specific soils under specific conditions. Once they figure it out though?

I sure as fuck don't. That Hypno did some nasty shit, and a berry isn't going to fix it all magically.

>>29357621
I don't think the brace can actually kill her, can it? If she's asleep right now, she should be relatively stamina neutral, or at least not in the red so much that she literally dies of oxygen deprivation

If she dies of suffocation because of it, I'm gonna be pissed because that is some serious bullshit right there. It's a lose-lose scenario.

Looking up at the tree, you see that there are other berries growing from it. All green and small just like the one you bit into.

If it could fix just about everything wrong with you... Maybe it could fix the cat?

You glare at the tree for a moment. It's worth a shot so that she'll stop being a useless piece of dead weight.

With a jump, you hook your claws up onto the branches, snatching around five of them and shoving them in the pocket of your jacket.

Within the tree, sucking at its sap, you see a smaller version of that beetle that you fought, Docile, around two feet in height without the horn. For a moment you really want to burn the stupid thing...

>>29358051

2 and 3 I'll give you. Those were mistakes. 4 was questionable. 5 and 6 were acceptable choices.
>>
You clamber down from the tree, stopping only briefly to take another picture of the idle beetle as you take another note under the file.

"Inactive at night. Haven't seen it in the day. Grows large and can tear a tree from the ground."
You set on the ground, and pull the cat out, letting her fall to the loamy ground of the summer wood.

"Exercise caution, they can develop advanced combat methods on par with rangers, and may exhibit hyperaggressive behavior when threatened. A class when under duress, otherwise it may be docile enough for D as it'd take an idiot to mess with this thing."

You cast a backward glance to the thing. Might be worth capturing for the Cinnabar labs. An autopsy would definitely be appreciated by the monster labs.

Looming over the cat, you see that her breathing is indeed quite shallow, her chest barely moving.
Taking her pulse, proves difficult as she struggles against her tech-induced lockup, veins bulging beneath her fatty cold flesh.
"Calm down you fat bitch, I'm just seeing if you're alright."

"M-nstr." You hisses between her teeth, her breathing a bit harder now, though forced.
"M-nster, klld thm. wy..." She flexes her claws, almost catching you in the hand as you withdraw at that, hands raised.

"Hey now, settle down Ice Queen. You get hit in the head or something or have you always been this stupid?" You begin to sneer,"I killed them because they're traitors, and I heard your transmission. They're a bunch of brainwashed dogs that need to be put down."

She growls through her teeth again, straining to open her mouth to shoot you, as you leer closer, shoving a berry into her mouth and chopping her mouth closed, tipping her head back so that she swallows reflexively.
>>
>>29358112
But we don't want to kill her?

Also why not swap out the battery?

Or not feed her a berry?

I think we only had the idea to feed her a berry after the QM told us to panic.
>>
"There you go, get over it and let's go."

Checking her Index, you see that her power's running low, ~20 minutes left vs yours that lies at just about an hour and thirty. That brace must be a pretty cruddy drain on her battery.

We did it to gather information. And we did get some rather valuable info.

I find it rather hilarious. Professor wanted us to use Shadowruns. But we're using them on him, not the situations.

With the cat squirming from the berry you just forced down her throat, you unzip her Ranger's Jacket, minding her disgusting fat. You see the Volt Orb casing pulsating right at at her sternum, resting in that little spot, a small direct reading showing that the power's running low.

You unlock the mechanism holding the orb in place and sealing it off from the elements and reach into her bag for the other, eyeing her carefully, as she tries to gag, regurgitate the berry that you'd just forced her to swallow.

"Just a sec, fattie. We're gettin' you back to the dome."

You grab the volt orb, its induction interface tingling across the surface of your skin from its activity, pulling it out, you force the other one in as your system shuts down briefly, jumping back online in the next moment with the new orb.

That's all it took though, for her to bring her hand to your throat, locked point-blank, and snarling as her body locks up again, claw pressing as her palm-gun spasms dryly. She just tried to shoot you.

This close, that would've been it, wouldn't it?

You smirk at that and pry her fingers away from your neck, rubbing at the cold traces of blood that the cat's claws left.
"Really want my blood that bad? Save it for the dome you stupid piece of crap. Hopefully an esper can fix you, or else we'll need- I'll need to put you down myself."

"M-nstr..." She hisses through her teeth with a spite unlike her.
A swift backhand puts her back in her place, and you hoist her sorry body over your shoulder, setting you a little off balance due to the compensation.

Swapping out your orb with a wider delay, you set off once more, wasting no more time here.

It's time to return to base.

===================================

It's a tiring 2 hour run later, and getting lost for maybe another half at the ashen perimeter of the dome. Repel-tech's so strong out here that it's hard to even look for it properly, that is, given how large the dome is.

It takes a solid effort to move forward until you touch the glass, and following from there until you find the entrance.

Normally rangers take a neutralizing device with them when returning to the dome, a Silph Scope as it's called, but the Cat forgot to grab one from requisitions. Likely couldn't tell them that she was going to leave the dome. Figures as much.

The Ashen Plains out here don't really offer any cover, nor do they really harbor any monsters.
Firestarters are a bit rarer than most unless it's one of those damn wild-fire bugs, or your own species that lies a distance away as you've been told.

Eventually you find the opening, and get let in by the guards standing inside at their approval.

The cat's come around, though you still don't trust her not to be a bit kill-happy after the previous stunt.

Decontamination sprays you down, sparing the dome whatever bacteria you might've brought in from the outside.
Man, fuck the outside.

The guards eye you over, and you're eventually processed. being made responsible for a report at Giovanni's word should you return.

Question is, what will you initially tell him?

I mean, I swear. Back in the forest, if the rolls had fucked us over at the bee drill nest, everyone would have been pissed off and some idiots would be mouthing off at everyone that we should have ignored the beedrill nest.

Agreed. Nothing we did is something I would call an outright bad decision. Splitting the party was probably the worst thing we did, and that had decent reasoning behind it. Other than that, everything that went really wrong (Failed Mind probe, fighting Hypno, fighting Heracross) was all shit dice.

We failed that ghost dream thing way earlier too. It wasn't super important, but goddamn did we fail every fucking dice roll or what. The only thing we really passed well was the double-crit on our run from the dome.
>>
>>29359781
He doesn't even know about that, though. We only managed to switch on the radio part way through.

You submit your initial report to be forwarded directly to boss for review prior to your actual arrival.
You mention Cerulean being compromised, the village you found with Esper threats and the identity of the infiltrator/murderer as a human/monster crossbreed.

You omit the giant insect that impeded you in the initial report, that detail is unnecessary, boss needs the important points.

The killer esper was not alone.
Traitors have been living outside of the dome.
A human traitor bred with a monster.
The metals of the mission were not specifically found.
Cerulean may in fact be in league with them. Or under Esper influence. -get her looked at.

With that, it'll be you seeing the boss first as the guards call for an Esper's assistance in fixing the cat's head.

You and the boss. Just the two of you, and you can say whatever you want about this mission.

You bear a kind of smirk when you realize that. Last 24 hours have been shit. But this? This is delicious.

Oh god, he's never going to shut up about this. Everyone else messed up or got messed up, and his only error (leaving those fucking kids alive) was something that no one else saw. His ego trip is going to be unbearable.

>Devon blinks and follows your vision," Right, that thing. I got a bad feeling from it earlier. It's strong. really damn strong. I snapped a shot of it though, archived that it likes to suck the sap from trees. Don't worry about it."

Buh-buh-buh muh libral feelings!

Really though, the idiots who want to diplomance everything are also the idiots who don't realize that the world doesn't abide by Western standards of civilization, rules of war, or morality.

They're the ones who scream about collateral damage and killing kids in Vietnam/Iraq/Afghanistan when the Gooks/Hadjis were hiding in civilian buildings, using kids as walking bombs, using child soldiers, and blowing themselves up because it would kill a few Americans.

These diplomance wannabes literally cannot wrap their head around the fact that EVERYONE in that village, including women and children, were not only hostile, but trying to kill us.

The universal language is not empathy...it's not understanding...it's violence.

Everyone, and everything, understands violence and pain.

Everyone understands power and displays of power.

That's why when we go the diplomacy route with Iran or North Korea....we don't get shit done. Because it's seen as weak. It's seen to them as us showing that we're not strong enough.

It's a fundamentally different world view.

Milotic isn't going to do SHIT. We have nowhere left to put milotic parts. People would still see all the other shit. We wouldn't look pretty with milotic, it would just add more flesh to the clusterfuck.

If you wanted to whine about hypothetical implants that would be good for social things but won't actually work because of what we already have, FAIRY TYPES. Specifically Sylveon. The thing that exudes an aura of good feelings.

Er, what reason do you have to think that at all?

Specific parts of a pokemon have specific functions. There's no real reason why Prof wouldn't explain Milotic's aura being caused by some sort of gland within Feebas that matures when it evolves. It might not even be an aura, but pheromones it exudes, in which case it's even more appropriate to have it be caused by an internal organ. It's just like how he explained the impeccable aim of the remoraid implants. It's all perfectly in keeping with the setting.

>Cerulean
You're head's murky, and everything's dark.

You fell down from that coin, in its spinning and metronome-like movement. Everything just kind of fell from there. It's kind of a good feeling to just kind of rest in this black sea, not thinking of anything in particular.

It's kind of nice. Just having nothing to think about for a while, no one to look at you and judge you as a monster or expect anything from you as a ranger.

There's a few flashes of violence here and there, and that makes you frown.

You kind of want to kill something. To squeeze it inbetween your claws as it suffers lacerations from your cold cutting grip. Unfortunately there's nothing here to do that to.
Devon? Devon would do. It'd just take wrapping your digits about his throat and sinking your claws in, shredding his supple, tenuous neck until it was nothing but bloody shreds.

Who's Devon again?

You feel a disturbance as the dark waters pulse with lights, shimmering among the surface of the waves, giving rise to an amorphous blob, giving presence to something existing here.

===This is your punishment===

It states, ringing out through this world.

You're dragged under the dark waters by hands reaching and clawing at your body. You open your mouth to scream, only for water to sink into your lungs.
This was when you didn't have gills.

You choke and gasp as the water pours down your throat, mercilessly choking you as you try to cough it up, to take a breath only to find more water coming on board and the surface to drift further and further away.

You see a hound, he walks into a room with boss and you fire at him, ducking behind cover shortly after as you'd been trained.
He paints the room with fire and you douse the opposition before returning your own high pressure water to knok him back, launching an icicle at him as water bursts at the apex of your frozen claws.

He locks you down, using your own mechanism against you, a sad man appearing at your door, a man that only had plan to mourn his weakening life.

"You are a failure, the beast will take you."

The world distorts into a fog that parts away, revealing that you're looking up at a blue sky devoid of glass, something warm and wet enveloping your legs, looking down, you see a giant serpent swallowing you whole as you're unable to move, unable to resist. It works its way slowly up, swallowing you slowly.

You fall then, into its stomach and before a gallery of your peers.

They are all of various yellow pigments, with golden almond eyes staring down at you with stoicism.
"By this council's decree. Ni'aras of Eubrana. You are exiled from our people. You may never return, nor will you ever remember how. Repentence for your crime shall be your eternal absence, and your nonexistence to us shall be your sentence and execution.

Begone"

Your entire world fades, and you feel hot sand shifting beneath your feet, the harsh sun blasting down upon your flesh, threatening to sear your skin from exposure alone.
You can't tell where you are, only that you don't know which direction is home.

You walk thousands of miles without a home...

===Wake up Cerulean of the Rockets===
===You are safe now. Wake up.===

===Wake up. Boss wants to hear your report.===

Boss? Boss wants to hear my report.

You find yourself back at the courtroom. "I need to report to boss." You say.

You climb from the maw of the snake,"Sorry, I need to report to boss. The mission is done." You apologize to the thing.

You're shooting down Devon, stopping to help him up,"We need to report to boss."
With a nod from him, you find yourself choking back the dark waters, swimming up through the viscous sea.
Thrashing at the surface against the hands, you shrug them off,"I need to report to boss!

The form standing upon the water made of water offers you its hand, as you take it, you see the Boss reflected in its featureless visage. "Boss?"

You wake up to Giovanni holding your hand.
"Good morning Cerulean, with us again?" His intense stare upon you makes you feel incredibly meek. THough, him holding your hand? You could just about die happy right now, he's sitting right next to you upon your bed, concerned for your well being.
You nod,"Y-yes, yes I am."

Taking stock of your surroundings, you see that indeed, it's your room, and you're surrounded by spoons. Alexis meditates before you, floating upon the air with her spoons floating gently around her, light casting off of them like some kind of lightbending work of magic.
Her usual somber expression upon her face, your gaze lingers upon the inverted star for one reason or the other.
"Glad you're with us again. It took a while to undo whatever put that spell on you. It was woven with layers and layers of detail. Meaningless and intricate mixed with meaningful and simple things. Odd to work through." She sighs, a finger rubbing against her temple."

Boss leans a bit closer to you,"We were worried about you Cerulean. Devon's given his report. Goldenrod and Sanna have been released back into our custody, and we're setting up a strike team to erase that village... I'm concerned that the monster suspect has not been discovered."

>>
>>29360960
I feel as if the reason why it gave us a peek at its memories was to garner some sympathy for it, perhaps?

'Course, we're totes devoted to the boss.

First off, let's start with the intruder to the dome (and I think we can automatically assume that it's fine to speak of the mission details in front of Alexis). From what we've surmised, it was likely the half-breed son between a psychic monster that possessed human-like intelligence and an esper woman who he had taken from the dome and presumably brainwashed into loving him.

Then we can go into detail about what we've learned of this monster, such as its name, its capabilities (it managed to lock out our evil moves), and of its presumed origin from a monster village.

We can go into detail about what we just dreamed if we can remember it. The monster was apparently banished for some sort of crime it committed against its kind and it presumably established the village with the stolen technology to live out the rest of its life peacefully. It's unlikely that it'll share news of our repel tech with its kind, depending on how rigidly they adhere to their laws, but....
>>
>>29361055
Its safe to assume that the hybrid is a very normal looking human esper with a somewhat crooked nose and a strong beard.

We can expect him to be extremely skilled at hypnotism and memory manipulation, furthermore, he probably hypnotised and altered the memory of a very large amount of people.
>>
>>29360960
"I was unable to find the suspect, but I was able to gather some information from his parents. The mother was an Esper who had been abducted and repeatedly hypnotized by the father, an unknown and extremely powerful Esper monster named Ni'aras. Apparently they had forbidden their son from killing anyone, and the mother was quite distressed to here that he had become a murderer. Was unable to properly gauge Ni'aras's reaction.

Unfortunately I was unable to gather more intel before Ni'aras made me the ultimatum that the only way I was getting out of their village alive was to delete all the information from mine and Devon's indexes, and agree to have my memory of the village erased, and have impulses to strongly discredit Devon implanted.

I resisted, but was overpowered.

Sorry."
>>
Of course, a relevant question is, how much of that information would Hypno have left infact?
>>
>>29361041
I guess we figured record would be useless if we wouldn't leave alive.

Though you'd think they'd do both at once.
>>
>>29360960

>>29361084
>>29361123
If we can mix these two, support.
>>
>>29361093
He wouldn't have a beard, though. He'd have hair legs. Kinda like a satyr. He definitely smells like a monster, though, so a team of trackers and espers (to detect any mental activity) would be recommended to capture him.
>>
>>29361093
has claws too.
>>
check hymen after everybody leaves

pretty sure Ni'aras didn't do that though
>>
>>29361084
This
>>

i don't think that the half breed was banished.

though it is possible that the hypno was banished out of a village of espers
>>

>>
>>29361190

INCREDIBLE WORK
>>
>>29361217
Neither of those said the half-breed was the banished one. They both said it was the monster that was banished and that the dome intruder was the half-breed
>>

>>

>>

>>
Cue the transfer ranger kid from Jhoto!!!
>>
>>29361249
welp, I'm sure that will make him much easier to identify. So long as he's not manipulating other people's memories or anything
>>
>>29361177
So, looking for a half monster, extremely powerful esper. capable of mind control, memory manipulation, implanting instructions/urges. Physical details are shaky - We know he has yellow fur, possibly an overly large nose. May use a coin in battle.
>>
>>29361260
I'm pretty sure the mother said it was a boy.
>>
>>29360935
>>29361272
Oh yes. We should definitely tell the boss of the equipment the monster had. He was using a coin on a string as a focus for his mental attacks. He was also physically strong.
>>
>>29361217
That seem to be likely.

The hypno probably got banished for producing an half breed.
>>
>>29361272
The monster had brown hair.
What did we do with it?
>>
>>29361330
The infiltrator had brown hair, and we gave it to Devon.
>>
>>29360960
"I'm sorry boss. I messed up, didn't I?

The suspect is the child of a monster Esper named Ni'aras, he was exiled from his home community, Eubrana, knowledge of how to get there was removed from his mind as part of this. He kidnapped children and psychically altered them, his 'wife', a human Esper, was his favorite. I'm not sure of her current status, I got her with an Ice Shard, but it was likely not fatal. He uses a coin to hypnotize people and is experienced in hand to hand combat. He claims he wants to live his life out in peace.

I didn't notice any inhuman footprints other than Ni'aras's, so I would guess that the culprit looks reasonably human due to being a hybrid."
>>
>>29361328
Wait there are two villages?
>>
>>29361359
It look like the esper monsters are much more organized than the regular monsters.

They probably have villages or even cities hidden deep into the wild.
>>
>>29361328
Or perhaps for another crime? Perhaps the only reason he fell in love with the esper woman was because he was lonely from being cut off from his kind? He finds humans disgusting, after all. Maybe desperation was what made him reach out to the woman?

>>29360960
Also, I think the woman told us that she had, had dreams of the man with the crooked nose taking her away from the dome? We should inform the boss of that. It may mean that she possesses the ability to see glimpses of the future.
>>
>>29361328
What? Hypno made the rapevillage after he was banished.
>>
>>29361379
>Or perhaps for another crime? Perhaps the only reason he fell in love with the esper woman was because he was lonely from being cut off from his kind? He finds humans disgusting, after all. Maybe desperation was what made him reach out to the woman?
Maybe she wasn't his first human woman.
>>
>>29361359
Hypno twice relayed to us that he was from a place called Eubrana, though all the information we have regarding these circumstances come straight from him (including what was imparted as part of our reprogramming) so I don't see how it could be treated as trustworthy.
>>
>>29360960
>>29361379
This is important tactical information. If the enemy possesses the ability to see the future, they might have already foreseen the team Giovanni has sent to the village and have already fled. In which case, they might have left a trap behind....

>cue Devon adding in that the guardian of the village is an enraged giant beetle
>that is, if he can connect it
>>
>>29361402
That does not matter. We must relay it to the boss all the same.
>>
>>29361402
its all we have on the matter I'm afraid
>>
>>29361411
>>29361379
I'm pretty sure that means that Hypno has been to the Dome multiple times and implanted hypnotic suggestions before he ultimately kidnapped her.

Not sure where the fuck you're getting precognition.
>>
>>29361434
That was what I thought as well, but Espers are capable of seeing the future, so it is just a likely.
>>
>>29361434
>Future Sight
>Lv57-69 (depending on the game and gen)

fuck, I hope it doesn't
>>
>>29361434
Espers are capable of Future Sight. And also
>Out the other children he'd taken, he loved me the most. He admired my dreams, even if I could no longer remember them.

There may have been a reason why the Hypno liked her dreams the most....especially if she was capable of seeing the future through them.
>>
I hope Devon suggested that Sana should go out and bugwrangle up some nice new research material for the good of mankind.
>>
"The intruder was half-monster, half-human. His father was a monster." You rise from your bedside, taking back your clawed hand from the boss, noticing that his hands took on white pigmentation that quickly vanishes once he's out of contact with you.

"He was the one that had been committing crimes here in the dome, his mother confessed that he was here, and was sad that he hurt people." You clasp your hands together in our bed, Alexis closes her eyes, going somewhere else in her mind via meditation, only the Boss's eyes remain on you as he awaits your further report.

"Devon and I left to find the monster and found a village, that's where we found an unknown monster and the mother. We didn't find the metals, or the intruder, though we found those two."
The boss nods for you to go on as you glance for his approval, swallowing yourself.

"The monster said its name was Ni'Aras Cast from Eubrana. I just had a dream where he was exiled," You touch your head, only vaguely remembering what transpired," He walked for a really long time before he found us, and started kidnapping people.
Maybe to make a home?"

You tug at the sheets of your bed, kind of relieved that you aren't in a hospital bed.
"Sorry I couldn't do more boss, I really tried, I did."
You breathe with a bit of hesitation, feeling the pressure of tears in the back of your eyes now that you've recounted your overall failure to complete your objectives.

You feel a hand upon your head, rustling up your hair a little.
"Ranger, it's alright." His expression softens just a little from his usual, a subtle curve of smile upon his lips. "I'm just glad that you returned safe and well. I do so hate it when I lose a member of my family, especially one with such promise." He closes his eyes for a moment.
"I am disappointed that you failed to capture the suspect, though we will find him. Him and the people that harbor espers outside of our own perimeter. Worry not about that, my Cerulean. You did however do as asked- Finding the truth of the error, and getting to the bottom of this after I had adjusted the order."
"You've done quite well indeed."

You can't help but to blush beneath your fur at that," Awww, thank you boss.." Your face feels a bit colder than usual at that.
The man stands up at your bed. "Having heard your report however, I'll be having a word with Devon about this absurd Giant Beetle he found. He's making claims that it can lift one hundred times its body weight. Then there's this about some kind of miracle berry that cured him when he was in the field. He's an excellent ranger only... " Boss looks over you," He lacks a certain humility that really makes a ranger." The boss adjusts his Uniform, and you give him a salute, as he raises a hand for you to ease yourself.
"Only in Uniform Cerulean, " He reminds.
"Ah, yes sir." You nod at that. and he walks off...

"Ah, boss." He halts, yurning, looking to you from only the corner of his eye.
"Yes?"
"The woman, the mother. She told me that she dreamt of the future from a very young age. So, um. The enemy may have an edge in counterattacks."

"Noted, thank you trainee." The boss leaves, and you are left alone, just you and Alexis.

"Devon's a hard read, but that's an amazing story Cerulean. I'm surprised that the two of you made it back as you did."
You nod, clasping your hands together and leaning back into your pillows.
"Yes, but here I am! Coming back like a trooper." You giggle though Alexis doesn't.

"He didn't even remember why he was cast out. It was kind of sad."
You lok down, kind of somber," So. You saw too?"
Alexis nods,"Yes, sorry if it was a secret. Couldn't help it while making you stop trying to hurt people. That Monster's Hypnosis is strong. What will you call it?"

You think for a moment," Hypno. Let's call it Hypno."
Alexis grins just a little," I suppose that's polite, though not quite what I was expecting... Take care Cerulean..."
Alexis and her spoons vanish, leaving you wholly alone.

Guts is an adrenaline trigger that's caused by suffering and the fight or flight response going into overdrive.

Marvel Scale, I'm going to leave up to a more magical nature that's only unveiled when the user begins to suffer, repelling further special effects, increasing endurance to such attacks through a certain serene mythical power.

i.e. Fairies and Dragons are basically magic.

Quick feet is flight response kicking into overdrive.
>>29362260
Grave Spire is there for a reason, and so is Agatha.
>>
>>29362272
But is it really safe to have so many of the Litwick family present?

Considering they burn souls for fuel?

Is that what happens to the ones the Mediums don't eat?
>>
Let's not bother the poor Prof with any more questions. I'm sure he just wants to go back to writing.
>>
>>29362288
Bad souls make excellent fuel, anon...
>>
>>29362288
The Litwick feed upon spiritual energy. Cerulean feels a little tired whenever she's at the spire.

Having so many present helps draw nearby souls to the spire, ensuring Rangers that die within a certain range find their way there. It also acts as a means to collect deceased monster souls so that they don't become inherently vengeful spirits.

The Mediums' and more so Agatha's great power allows so many to exist in one place without a significant drain upon visitors there.
They also cooperate in assisting the channeling of the dead, and Honedge may be wielded so long as permission is asked from it.
>>
>>29362319

Now is the winter of your discontent!
>>
You call your team to a group meeting via a few calls to their dorm rooms. You might've visited them all in person, but hey, you're still a bit tired from the mission, no sense in walking if you don't need to. Your body's still really sore at that.

"Sure, I'll come for a team meet, sorry I was kind of crap on the mission, Cerulean." Sanna sound apologetic over the line, yet you assure her that it's alright, that it could've gone better on all ends. She doesn't seem all that convinced.

"Yeah... Sure, I'll come... Is Devon going to be there?" Of course! You tell Goldie and he immediately shrinks on the other end.
"I-I don't want to come, it's fine."

"Goldie..." You growl into the phone," You're coming to lunch since we were all on the team. You did a good job. I'll deal with Devon, okay?"
Goldie concedes,"See you at lunch."

Now for Devon...
"Hahahaha! Hey fattie, hope you know I saved your sorry ass. Giovanni tell you that?! I'm sure boss went into all the detail!" He rants on and on about how he saved you from yourself after you got brainwashed. You kind of shrink back on your side, letting him talk and get it all out.
"So, what did you want anyway?"
"I... Uhm.. Nothing."
"What? You serious? You went out of your way to call me and won't even confess your super not-secret crush on me after I single-handedly recovered that mission from being FUBAR? Huh. Well this is boring as reverse. Going to go see if Boss has any other missions for me to go on, smell you later!"

He hangs up, you didn't get the chance to invite him, nor did you really want to...

You all meet at the Rockets that were on your team at the food court for lunch, minus Devon who's doing Arceus-knows-what.

Goldie breaths a sigh of relief when he hears that Devon won't be coming.
"Geeze, that's great, I just don't know how to deal with him. You know he's taking all the credit for finding the village and everything?"
You blink at that," No, I haven't heard that from boss,"
Goldie frowns, his short Golden mustache framing his mouth," Well that's what I heard, went on about you messed up too. Granted that you did-
Sanna slams the table, silencing him,"Yeah, let's not talk about that, gonna make the food bad."
Looking over to you,"You did fine, I wish I coulda done more for ya. Mission's a mission I guess though."

You nod and sip a glass of water,"Yeah, mission's a mission. So how was the Ciciv Clink?" You ask the two of them and they glance to each other, frowning.

"Well..." Sanna starts,"Ta begin, there aint nuthin like ya see in some a tha terminals. Took 'em forever ta process us as ranges and figure out a cell ta hold each of us.
Goldie kind of smiles," I was happy hearing I'd get to leave the cell this morning. Psi dampeners are a pain to think through" His gaze lingers upon yours for a moment, traveling down a moment before looking away entirely.

The three of you have a nice lunch, sharing your experiences...

D'aw, I guess that's a good place to end it. I just wanted to work out a list of stuff to talk about (namely apologizing to Goldie about making him do something he was uncomfortable with, AND causing him to fuck it up (though it was partially Devon's fault that time too)))

Sanna was not much help during all this as I recall, but mostly because she got dragged off early.

Next time, when we visit Devon, I say we sit him down, and force his stupid ass to accept our thanks without letting him twist it. He is a huge asshole, but he saved us, and ensured the mission succeeded, for the most part.

How does the whole leveling Icy Wind until it's a Blizzard thing work now?

You said that's how it works back before you implemented stamina. But now with stamina, you've confirmed that Blizzard will take way more than Icy Wind. What if we upgrade Icy Wind enough to get Blizzard, but we don't want to use Blizzard in some instance because it costs too much. I think we unlock Blizzard as a secondary skill thing like we unlocked the Rest while running.

Like, we have Icy Wind (X) where X is the maximum level of Icy Wind, but then when we buy the next level we unlock Blizzard (Y) instead where Y is equal to X+(ranks bought above X) and can choose to use that or Icy Wind.

So lets pretend that Icy Wind unlocks Blizzard at level 15 and we bought 20 levels.

Blizzard (5)

He's pretty bad ass (although, now that the mission is coming to a close, some of the things he shouted while killing the villagers sounds pretty embarrassing now), but he's kinda awkward as well.

Some things I learned
>Don't even leave the Dome with just one partner
>Don't mess with Espers, seriously, just don't
>Refer to lesson 2
>Always have a full set of gear with you.
>Do NOT leave the dome without at least 75% Stamina
>Do NOT split up on missions (That's why we have Espers, for recon)
>Rely on teammates, especially when they have a specialty. Devon was the lynchpin here, it was the only reason we lived.
>The dice will always fuck you over. Prepare for that. Don't leave things to chance.

So...we really did pull ourselves out of the hellfire ourselves?

That's...comforting, I suppose. Clever thinking on our part.
You don't hear that very often...
Haha...
I don't ever want things to go that poorly again. Pls no more Shadowruns.

Can someone make this a Copypasta?
Seriously, this needs to be remembered.

Got it.

I wanted him to come off as a trained professional while also having a bit of an awkward teenager side to him.
He's a badass, but only when he's on the mission, and he'll kill humans if he's paranoid enough as seen when he gets wrapped up in a fury.

A nerd, a badass, and a psychopath. They're all still just children with their flaws. Even Ceru still suffers from self esteem issues to some degree.
Heck, you could spin it story-wise that she works exrra hard to make up for her fatty look. Her own way of compensating for her looks.

>Pls no more Shadowruns.

Danger will be far more upfront on the more traditional missions. The rare metals > Village mission were meant to appear innocuous at first and unveil something above "paygrade" yet still manageable- with a full team.
Getting split twice was the thing that wrecked this encounter.
Ni'Aras is still in the area.

I still can't believe Goldie fucked up mindwiping.

God damn it Goldie.

Was there anyway to free them from prison beyond getting the proof we got?
>>
>>29363010
To clarify, it was meant to be an advanced mission where Giovanni's given little info so that Ceru is put on it, only for her to realize everything that's gone wrong.

>G'night mates!

Was fun Professor. I look forward to how we wreck future encounters with nat 1s. Should be a great time...haha...

Sleep now., I shall.

As if he'd go away that easily. Although I am curious about his circumstances.

>>29363035
G'night Prof. See you next time.
>>
>>29363032
Could've busted them out, though it could've gotten Ceru arrested too. Minor setback.
>>
>>29363068
So hey, Giovanni went public with the psychic village after all? Or are the higher-ups the only guys in the know?
>>
>>29363068
I reckon that wouldn't been a whole different string of fuck ups, landing us in jail while the trail goes cold.
At least this way, we almost died and got something useful out of it!

Right?
Right...

Rockets aim for the stars! Always!

Well, we certainly blasted off again.
