FACILITIES: http://pastebin.com/5Fk5p19Y

You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

Currently, you've taken your idols to a bit of shopping and bonding. Things seem to be going relatively well so far. However, with Jenner away talking to the mall manager for business, it's just you keeping an eye on the four girls.

You've got a fairly good handle on Rochelle, Julie, and Cole, but you haven't actually talked to Rin much apart from when you initially recruited her. You approach her as she looks at rather fancy yet frilly dress on display, as if contemplating whether she should buy it or not.

"Hey, Rin." You say.

"Oh, hello Producer." Rin says somewhat absentmindedly, still looking at the dress.

>You like that dress?

"You look pretty interested in that dress." You say. "Thinking of buying it?"

"What?" Rin blinks. "Oh no, I couldn't possibly take advantage of your company like that-!"

"Hey, wait a minute, you and Rochelle are free to get whatever you want too, within reason, of course." You say.

"Yes, but," Rin bites her lip. "I don't know. My parents probably wouldn't let me wear, much less keep it, anyways."

"Are you not on good terms with your parents?" You frown.

"Well..." Rin looks away for a bit. "That question is a bit personal, isn't it?"

"I'm your Producer, Rin. Anything that can affect your performance on stage is definitely my concern." You frown. "Plus I really am concerned for you."

"Well, if you put it that way..." Rin sighs. "My parents don't really approve of show business in general. To them, it's the equivalent of prostitution."

"Wow." You raise an eyebrow. "How do you deal with that?"

"Even if they don't like my life choices, they can't really go against my grandfather. My parents are weirdly conservative like that." Rin sighs. "That's why I don't want to leave him alone. I feel I owe him for everything he's done for me."

"I see." You nod.

"B-but it's not like I hate my parents or anything!" Rin says defensively. "We just... don't agree on a lot of things."

"Well, Rin." You grin as you take the dress off the rack and hand it to her. "We can just keep this dress at the office. Your parents wouldn't need to know. How about that?"

"Well-"

"You're buying it at company expense. You might as well."

"Well, to be fair, I don't think this store is very concerned with the durability of their clothes." You point out.

So what other equipment/arms should we give the girls?

I was thinking a pistol for Rin or something simple to use.

I'm not so sure what to give Julie due to her Heavy Armour though.

Cole is fine with her electricity as long as she doesn't get wet, then she needs a backup weapon.

Rochelle should be fine with most weapons.

"Sure, we can stop by later." You nod and check your watch. "BUT FIRST, we should get some lunch!"

With that, you gather up the rest of the idols, and make the necessary purchases, frowning as you watch the little number on the register grow higher and higher as each new outfit is scanned. Seriously, six hundred dollars for a single dress? How the hell did these clothing stores stay in business?

Unfortunately, you also end up having to carry all the clothes, as well. Thanks to your physical conditioning and your augmented arms, the weight is no problem, but it's still rather inconvenient, especially when you have to keep a close eye on four teenage girls at the same time. You wonder what Jenner is up to, but you can't exactly reach your phone to contact her right now.

You all return to the food court, where you claim one of the larger tables for your group, setting down all your things and keeping a sharp out for potential thieves. You also choose a table that has a clear line of sight to most of the food court, so you can keep an eye on the girls. They meanwhile split up to grab what they wanted.

"I see you've been busy." Jenner says as she sits down in the seat across from you. "Hopefully carrying all these wasn't too much of a chore."

"Nah, it was fine." You say. "So, how did the meeting go."

"Well..." Jenner sighs. "The manager says their stage is booked for the rest of the year, so it's not good for us. Unless..."

"Unless what?" You narrow your eyes.

"The manager, in no uncertain terms, mentioned how the mall has recently had a problem with delinquents loitering around the mall after hours. His concern is they might scare away customers or vandalize the place, and the mall cops here can only do so much."

"So basically, if the delinquent problem is solved...."

Ah yes, the Sykes method of fighting. Taking out all sense of honor and decency to win at all costs.

Am I the only one concerned about trying to have a show before the girls could really get trained in either sense? I know Rin doesn't need much singing help and perhaps Rochelle has some talent from the get go, but Julie and Cole need some work before they can go up on the stage.

I think we should also explore a hydrophobic lotion. I think the current weakness of hydrophobic spray is that it comes off with human skin oils, so I wonder if the future fixed that, or is that a way around that?

Also, I wonder if we can give Cole capacitor gauntlets to give her greater control over her power, pic related

"Sounds like a plan." You nod. "Though we better get a better idea of what our Idols can do. And weapons, of course."

"We'll take care of that when we get back to the office." Jenner nods and looks at the piles of clothes. "I think we did enough shopping for today. We should have enough free time for some recreation. What do you think?"

"I was thinking of taking Rochelle to another shop first, but yeah, I think we can do that." You nod.

"Well, we're in Delta City Mall. We're not exactly short on options." Jenner points out.

"Hey! Producer!" You hear Julie call out, and you see her the idols approach, trays full of food.

"Hey girls, isn't that a little too much food?" You ask.

"Well, we all agreed, since we want to see how Cole reacts, we each got something different for her." Rochelle says.

"Whatever." Cole says as she chews on a little wooden stick. "These corn dogs are FUCKING AMAZING. There is no way in hell there's anything better than this!"

And so the rest of lunch is basically Cole trying a little bit of everything. Unfortunately and unsurprisingly, it seems she's drawn to the junk foods the most. You make a note to yourself.

"Oh wow!" Rin says as she's looking through the bought clothes. "This outfit is soooooo cute! Who's is it?"

Rochelle and Julie take one look at it and shrug. Cole, meanwhile, see's it and nearly chokes on the calzone she's taking a bite out of.

"Coooooooole.~" Rochelle grins. "How can you buy something so cute and not wear it?"

"I-i-i-it was just for fun! I wasn't planning to w-w-wear it or anything!" Cole says defensively.

Well, for a previously near-feral and borderline murderous girl from the Tombs, Cole looks surprisingly helpless when confronted with three girls in full dress-up mode. You figure that the true hidden nature of girls was more horrible and terrifying than any monster, and Cole was finding this out the hard way.

"H-hey, why are all of you looking at me l-like that?" Cole says nervously, trying to back up, only to run into a support column.

"Come on, Cole, what's the harm in it?" Rin says.

"Yeah, Cole, it's totally cute!" Rochelle says.

"Join uuuussssssss." Julie adds in.

All three girls close in, dangerous glints in their eyes. Cole finally looks at your for help, but you just shrug and shake your head.

"Nooooooooooooo!" Cole shrieks as she's dragged away to the bathrooms.

"I guess I'll go make sure they don't get TOO enthusiastic." Jenner sighs as she gets up from her seat.

So you're left alone at the table again, only able to imagine what sort of nefarious acts were being conducted on poor Cole by her tormentors. Finally, after a few minutes, you see Rin, Julie, and Rochelle return with a girl you don't recognize, until you realize it's Cole. What a change a different set of clothes could make!

"So what do you think, Producer?" Rin asks.

>Capacitor Gauntlets

It's certainly worth looking in to. If Augs exist, then there's a really wide door being thrown open for any sort of Biotech.

We just need to decide a few things about these gauntlets, though. Are they gonna be big, metallic bulky things, like pic related? Perhaps something more subtle, like some specially crafted nano-capacitors embedded in some normal-sized gloves? And what about the level of control Cole would have over the electricity pulsing through these gauntlets? Would it simply amplify her strength, or allow her some form of electrokinesis so she can pull off some really broken sandbox game-tier environment manipulation? Should there be a killswitch on the gauntlets in case Cole gets out of hand?

What about who should make the gloves? Any Biotech company worth their snuff, once convinced about the business venture, would jump on this commission for the potential profits it could rake in. The problem, however, is convincing said companies--and I'm not so sure a showy Powerpoint will be enough to woo the Board of Directors. Of course, dealing with Megacorps brings with it Megacorp problems--corporate espionage comes to mind. If the gloves are tampered with during design or manufacturing, we could see potentially catastrophic results if something goes awry during a performance. We don't have Dethklok money, so we can't have our fans sign away their personal safety with "Pain Waivers"--not yet, anyway.

And we're back!

"I think she's even cuter when she gets angry like that!" Rin laughs.

"S-stop it!"

"Wouldn't be surprised if the boys start chasing after her!" Rochelle grins.

"Or maybe even girls!" Julie adds in.

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!" The other two girls squeal.

"Producer, if I electrocute the first person to try and hit on me, would that stop others from trying?" Cole asks.

"I'd like to say yes, but, probably not." You shrug. "People are crazy like that."

Cole grumbles and pouts.

"I suppose you think I'm cute too, Jenner."

"Undoubtedly." Jenner says with a cool look on her face. "You're definitely idol material."

"Okay, okay." You butt in, deciding to take the heat of Cole for now. "We can do something fun now that our shopping's done. What do you girls have in mind?"

"Karaoke!" Rin says.

"Arcade!" Rochelle yelps.

"I read there was an amusement park in here!" Julie grins.

The walk back to Marc's seems to be shorter than last time, though you guess it's because you actually know where you're going rather than wandering aimlessly. Rochelle's eyes widen once you enter, taking in all of the equipment and gear gathered all around.

Honestly, I don't think Cole particularly needs anything like that. She can shoot lightning from her fingertips, what more do you want?
>>
>>29301451
Shoot lightning with even more power and control. Make sure she doesn't kill anyone we're not supposed to. Also a visual excuse to other people on why she has electric powers.
>>
>>29301451

A degree of electrokinesis that allows for her to absorb electricity from light poles and power transformers, while also being able to pick up and toss anything from dumpsters to fully loaded semis like they were paper dolls? The ability to skate along electrified surfaces at rocket-fast speeds? With a power amplifier, we're looking at inFamous levels of destructive capability.
>>
>>29301789
The electrified surface one - We can use it both in concert and in battle. It just need her to shock a few wires continuously in AC current.
>>
>>29301595
>>29301789

Well, lets look at the science. I'm guessing we were standing about 5-6 feet away from Cole when she blasted us. Let's round it off an call it 2 meter. Now, air's dielectric strength is about 3MV/m. This means that Cole can generate at least 6MV of power. Most high voltage power lines carry less than 140KV. This mean that Cole is approximately 43 times more powerful than the biggest power lines, at minimum.
>>
>>29302094
Damn. And she stores that into a capacitor...
>>
>>29302094
>>29301789
>>29301595
You guys are forgetting her special abilities, which is the higher her int goes up the better she can control her powers.
Also am i the only one that thinks that she would do great in dancing with agility 3.
>>
>>29302094
Well I not really interested in the drawing power part, it's the power control I'm more interested in.

Like have a regulator dial on the gauntlet at three levels:

Light show
Less Lethal
Fully Lethal
(And hidden red button for self-destruct)

We get a notification every time this setting is changed, and so we are confident that Cole is not running around killing people.

Also, we can put in a built-in rail gun, for fun.
>>
>all these fuckers wanting to adopt cole
I thought half the quest hated her from looking at the archives.especially the guys who kept bitching and moaning when ever we failed a roll with her.
>>
>>29302312
She can do most of that herself with a little training, no need for wasting money on doodads.
>>
>>29302360
I don't know, we really haven't tested her electric abilities yet. The gauntlets are just an idea for the future, and a good cosmetic excuse for her powers later.

Six Megavolts? Girl must have been quite the pet project to be able to create that sort of power--if she even is some mad doctor's plaything and not some byproduct from living in the sewers of a megacity. And the fact that she can control her powers while keeping her emotions mostly in check tells of a certain amount of training, either self-taught or instructed remains to be seen.
>>
>>29302404
Judging by her special abilities we just need to raise her Int for her to be able to do that.

>>
>>29302443
There is also the possibility its just fucking magic, considering we've got some clear Shadowrun influence on the setting. Having honest-to-god supernatural abilities wouldn't be out of theme.
>>
>>29302360

The power setting is mostly there to impart a little bit of control in case something goes terribly wrong--at least during a show. At all other times, I'm thinking the inhibitor action of the device should be turned off, and the amplifying action kept on.
>>
>>29302312
1. Cole can do that on her own

2. She not going to enjoy our lack of trust in her

3. We're extremely strapped for money now as it is, and now you want to go building multimillion dollar energy gloves?

"Well, let's see what you got." You say.

"Haha! Well here you go!" Marc hands you a rather large catalog book. You start flipping through it, looking at the contents.

It was... certainly what you expected. You do remember that in the army, female gear DID differ from male gear, though only in the most minor of ways. Other than that, female gear was visually indistinct from male gear. This catalog, however, seemed to take military gear and REALLY throw in the feminine qualities. You notice lots of skirts. Lots and lots of skirts. You grin wryly knowing that a lot of female soldiers you knew wouldn't be caught dead in the battlefield in that sort of attire.

"See anything you like?" You ask Rochelle, giving her the catalog.

"Hmmmmmm," Rochelle narrows her eyes. "You know, I'm kinda liking that black one there, but I do sort of have a weakness for digital camo..."

You're confusing digital camo with universal camo. And universal camo can either be pretty good or pretty bad.

Personally, I'm a fan of solid color uniforms.
>>
>>29303753
No, that was intentional. Anyway, while the system is certainly improved by the second suggestion it still feels rather vulnerable to backdoors. No one wants their concert to end in mass murder.

Oh, and tech geek roadie hacker are disgusting, ugly creatures no one will ever love. Leave them to their internet pornography and little girl based quests. ;_;

"How about this, we'll get you that cute looking black one in the catalog, and then we'll get you a more... erm... functional camo oufit off the shelf. How about that?"

"Thanks, sir!" Rochelle's smile gleams.

"Oho, you really know how to spoil them, don't you!" Marc chuckles and leans forward. "Hey, just because we're friends, I'll even give you a special deal. I'll throw in an M66 SMG, complete with silencer, laser sight, and holo optic for half off!"

"Wait, I didn't think those were street legal." Rochelle blinks.

"Bah! When has that stopped anybody?" Marc chortles and digs the weapon in question out from behind the counter to show you both. "It's a top of the line SMG, and since it chambers 7.62, it has stopping power unlike those piddly 9mm peashooters H&K and OCP try to peddle!"

"It looks operator as fuck." Rochelle says, looking at the gun. "I like it!"

Even with the discount, you're kind of glad this should be the last major purchase of the day. Recalling all the purchase receipts, you're nearing your allowed spending limit for today. Anything else would have to come out of your own pocket.

"Bad. Ass." Rochelle tries to refrain from squealing after Marc bags the items and hands them to her. "Oh god I can' wait to try them out when we get back!"

"Haha, I know a repeat customer when I see one!" Marc laughs as well. "Well, run along now. Hey, Eddie! Where are your manners!?"

"THANK YOU FOR SHOPPING AT MARC'S. PLEASE COME AGAIN. OR I WILL TERMINATE YOU." The half ED-209 rumbles.

"Is that a working ED-209?" Rochelle blinks.

"Come on, Rochelle." You say as you tug at her arm to get her out of the store. You fear that staying any longer and she'd never want to leave.

"Again, thanks a lot, sir." Rochelle grins happily. "I can't wait to try out that M66!"

"Actually, he also gave me an M55 earlier." You say.

"You're shitting me!" Rochelle gasps.

"How about this..." You say, digging into your bag.

Precisely this.
We find a setting in the harbinger to induce the bug, and then - Ideally, we can use the harbinger system to have our girls crosstrain each other.

Any sort of fear about a concert ending in murder is removed by..... not having a connection in place when performing. Simple as that. You can't bodyjack someone with no connection, and if you have a removable connection, you can control when it is.
>>
>>29304067
>> Ask which one she wants
>>
>>29304289
do you understand how horrifying it would be to be awake and have someone else controlling your body the only other thing on that level is when people are put under but they stay awake and feel what is being done to them
>>
>>29304289
Wait, if don't have the connection in place when performing and we don't have it in place at home, when do we use it? Keep in mind most of our crimefighting could be considered a performance.

Probably why that feature was introduced in the first place. I just can't see us using the Harbinger, no matter what the modifications.

>>
>>29304402

I don't think its nearly as bad as you're saying.

The entire point of what i'm suggesting is to use it as a training aid. For crosstraining skills across our idols. (at home, NOT in public, for >>29304420 )

>"Okay, let me show you how to work a rifle! Here's the safety, the slide, the clip, all the important bits. Here's how it should feel when properly braced across your shoulders. Alright, now I'm going to jump out of you, and we can practice on the targets together!"
>>
>>29304402

No, and neither do you since nothing even close to that exists in real life. Being alert during surgery is an entirely different thing because they're fucking cutting you with knives and mucking about in your guts, no shit THAT is horrifying.

There could be consequences to the Harbinger system that we aren't looking at here. You can't just invade someone's head without leaving something behind--imprinting. It's the Neural Handshake in Pacific Rim, except possibly mostly one-sided. It's a major invasion of privacy on both ends if imprinting does turn out to be an actual consequence, and I'm not sure whether our girls cross-training each other without building that sense of trust first is a good idea.

You're assuming you want it to work one way (to prove a point you want), when in fact we know very little about how it ACTUALLY works.

The fact that its a commonly used/tested/vital piece of military battlefield hardware should speak volumes to its reliability, though.

"So which one do you want?" You ask.

"I guess I'll take the M66. I always did have a liking for silenced stuff." Rochelle says.

"Okay, we'll give to you once we get our armory stuff finalized." You nod. "Now how about some karaoke?

"Cool, I guess I can give it a try." Rochelle grins. "Though I have a feeling Rin's going to kick our asses."

"Now that's no way to win a war!" You chastise her jokingly. "I expect you to give it your all!"

"Yes sir!" Rochelle grins.

The both of you finally reach the karaoke bar. A quick query to the attendant at the front desk quickly leads you to one of the rooms near the back, where you see the girls going through song selection. Except for Cole, who really doesn't seem to know what to do.

"We voted to have Cole sing first." Julie explains. "Just to see what it's like."

"The vote was fucking rigged!" Cole snarls.

"Democracy at it's finest." You shake your head. "You have anything in mind?"

"Well, we sort of do..."

>SONG SELECTION TIME! Put a song you'd want to hear a beginner like Cole try to sing! Also roll a 1d100 along with your request, and the highest of the first 3 will be picked! And I can and will veto troll suggestions, so don't even try.

>And a careful note! Song difficulty WILL factor into things, so choose wisely!

ALSO, as a clarification to the Harbinger deal. This "bug" you're debating about is completely wrong. The controlled subject does NOT retain skills and knowledge from the controller. The "bug" is that in rare cases, the subject remains conscious during the control period, which is comparable to being paralyzed. There's currently no clear answer how or why this happens, or how to reliably replicate it.

"Nevereverland." You read the title. "Is it difficult?"

Cole actually sings... pretty respectably for her first time. She manages to keep up with the speed of the song and only gets a few words of the lyrics wrong. However, you can definitely tell she needs work controlling her pitch and tone. Something that some training and practice couldn't fix.

"Okay, how was that, bitches?" Cole grumbles.

"Not... bad. But not too good either." Rin sighs. "Your tone and pitch really need some work."

Julie and Rochelle concur with Rin's criticism.

"B-but it's not bad for a first try!" Rin adds in quickly.

"Whatever." Cole rolls her eyes.

"Julie, I suppose you're up." You say, wanting to give Cole a break from all the embarrassment.

"Hm, I guess. I always did want to try my hand at this."

"H-hey! She gets to choose her own song?" Cole says in an accusing tone.

"To be fair, you didn't really make an effort to find a song yourself." Rochelle points out.

"Yeah w-well, that's discrimination!" Cole says.

"Do you even know what the word 'discrimination' means?" Rin asks.

I did not. Check my post. It was an honest fuck up on my part.

Really though if I really wanted 'attention' it wouldn't be of this kind, which is what using a trip always leads to.
Using a trip to get attention = masochism, because it's more often than not "tripfag asshole", "get out", and "ban him".

I don't think namefags necessarily do it for the attention as you so frequently like to point out.
But man, yeah, quoting the 20 and rolling again instead of going EVERYBODY STOP is a dick move for anyone.

On the subject of support staff, does anyone else think that me might need 1-2 more? I'm thinking about either a Scientist/Hacker type to work on our stage lighting/military grade electronic augs but not the Harbringer, OK? please don't hurt me, or someone with some experience in... less than legal matters for help accruing underworld contacts it's safer and more reliable if the "criminals" our girls are fighting are on our payrole and help with combat training specifically, how to fight dirty
>>
>>29308372
Right now we should keep the spending low, though. We already hired one idol over the cap, so we should be careful about our funds.
>>
>>29308372
We definitely need more staff, but we need to start bringing in money before we can get a bigger budget allocated.

>>

>>29308508

I agree. This is more of a long term strategy for when we start having regular concerts.

You're delusional if you don't think they are an issue. Quests have become synonymous for fetish fulfillment and the worst part is that they are only increasing.
>>
>>29308603
oh god it is spilling over from the meta thread!
>>
>>29308566
Well in that case I'd recommend getting something like a seamstress or other clothier first. That way we can hopefully get them to make dual purpose outfits. Something that can be worn both on stage and on the battlefield. That, and, keeping the outfits varied is important for idols. At least until they have a signature look that's associated with them.
>>
>>29308651
Don't reply to it, just quietly report it and let it get pruned.
>>
>>29308603
>implying there's not non-quest threads on /tg/ about fetish fulfillment
>>
>>29308716
I really don't think we have the need for a full time seamstress on our payroll. We have clothing stores stores for most clothes, and we send out for custom jobs.
>>
>>29308878
But if we had a full time seamstress, every job would be a custom job. And at a lower price in the long run.
>>
>>29308942

Compared to 600$ dresses?

Yeah, we need a wardrobe manager to be successful in this business, period.

The only question is how much we do in house, or not
>>
>>29308988
Bitch could fix the dresses and reuse them.
>>
>>29308988
Ideally we do it all in house and make an additional revenue stream popularizing and then selling original designs.
>>
>>29308942

>>29308988

>>29309033

>>
>>29309077

>>
>>29309077
You really don't know how important a job a seamstress is do you?
>>
>>29309077
>we just bought them a full wardrobe

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No, no we did not. We bought them a couple dresses each for some VERY basic functions.

A FULL wardrobe is something that has several choices for every conceivable occasion, plus matching accessories. For an accomplished idol, it's not unusual to have a different outfit for every show, and some even change outfits every couple songs.
>>
>>29309066
Sponsorships would be better for that. We can get custom clothes without hiring a seamstress, and we don't have to pay her at the end of every month.

>>29309134
The robots are just for repairs.
>>
>>29309193
Not to mention that they usually have to keep up appearances of being fashionable while in public but not on stage for publicity purposes, and will have top of the line outfits for that too.
>>
>>29308295
Well, fuck.
>>
>>29309167

>>
>>29309348
I agree that a seamstress, or fashion designer, is important, but should we even be discussing it when singing and dancing is going to be the more immediate concern?
Or what about the theme we're going to build for each girl? What's our plan? What niche is each girl going to occupy, and what theme are we going to use to bring the entire team together?
>>
>>29309348
And that'd be very important, if this were real life. Idol companies are filled with nameless, faceless workers the boss doesn't particularly give a shit about as anything else. Idolmaster doesn't have you managing faceless employes, it has you hanging out with people and having fun. We can just assume that clothes will get made, songs will get composed, and dance lessons will be taught. What we need to focus on are jobs that will allow us to interact with the person filling them constantly.
