I don’t think that being so…” You pause, and she motions for you to continue, smiling encouragingly. “...close to her will be easy, sometimes- I doubt it, actually...but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to try and get to know her better.” Your cheeks flare up as you force the words out, looking away from your sleeping partner and the heavenly digimon you’re talking to. A soft laugh answers you, though you detect a hint of relief in Venus’s voice at the same time.

“It’s rather reassuring you think that way, I think.” She comments. “If you did not, I’d look quite the fool for bestowing you with my favor, wouldn’t I?” Ah, there’s a bit of the Venus you were expecting. Surprisingly- or perhaps not so much- that bit of vanity only reassures you that you’re doing well so far. The knowledge lessens some of the anxiety you’ve been slowly building up, and you feel a bit more relaxed- but not too much.

Sitting back down on the step besides a softly snoring Sally, you take a moment to think back on what the digital goddess of love meant. You feel sleep creeping in, however, and you’re reminded just how TIRED you are…

You’re tired, just got through talking to a goddess, and even the steps you’re sitting on are looking mighty comfy… Sally’s snoring seems to have quieted a bit, and when you look over to her, you notice she’s shivering ever so slightly. Well, of course she is, you berate yourself. That dress, with no shoulders and- you’re going to just stop thinking about that right now. Remembering that the coat you bought has an -admittedly thin- blanket in the hem, you unzip the thing, and lay it, coat and all, over your partner. Just as you’re about to walk back to the lounges, however, something snags your arm and pulls, and before you know it, you’re enveloped in a very large, very red pair of arms. Sally pulls you closer in her sleep, her grip tightening every time you try to wriggle free, before simply giving up.

Well, you said you wanted to try to be closer to her, and, well, here it is. Even if it’s not quite what you meant.

Giving in to your own weariness, you relax in your partner’s embrace, her breathing setting a drowsiness off in your mind as you work one of your arms over to the coat/blanket, pulling it over the both of you, before the sleep truly sets in and you drift off.

As if in answer, your friend comes around the corner, rubbing one eye and still stretching, her jacket a bit lopsided on her shoulders.

“Wayne…?” She begins, but trails off as she notices Sally on the floor, still sleeping soundly. then she looks closer, and leans over, finally spotting you, wrapped up in two large and very powerful arms. “...Oh.”

“I didn’t want to wake her up…” You begin, but the sound of Zoe trying very hard not to laugh stops you. “W-what are you laughing at?””

Suppressing another snort, your best friend skirts around the edges of your makeshift bed, before bending down to your level, giving you a prime view of her flustered expression as she tries her hardest not to laugh. In between hiccuping giggles, she manages to get out a sentence.

“She did the same to me in the tent. I think-” another laugh “-that this is just how she sleeps.”

“Yes...the possibility had occurred to me.” You mutter, wiggling slightly to try and loosen her grip. “But if you could help me out, that’d be appreciated.” Zoe takes another minute or two to laugh at your suffering, before working her hands carefully into the space between Sally’s two, slowly pulling them apart and off your back. You quickly slip out of Sally’s grip, before noticing that some time in the night, both her cape and hat had come off. You’re not sure where her cat is, however.

You stand and, with a stretch of your own, walk over to the table you ate at last night; you’re not entirely surprised to see it laden with food that could loosely be called “breakfast-y,” but don’t seem any less delicious. Sally trails after you, still half-asleep, but drawn in by the smell of the food. And speaking of smells- is that….bacon?

It is. It most certainly IS bacon. How the fuck did they get HAM up here? And such a...large ham...too… You decide you don’t want to know. You really don’t want to know where they got the ham. You just know you want to eat, and there’s something very familiar in front of you. Grabbing a couple cuts of the meat and several strange-looking fruit, you begin to eat, sating a hunger you hadn’t realized was quite this powerful. The meat is tough, but well-seasoned, and the fruit is sweet and full of juice, and already you can feel it waking you up more than a cup of coffee could. Quite miraculous, actually. Maybe you should take a couple along for your trip- or at least learn where they grow, later.

While you’re eating, you feel your digivice shift in your pocket, and are reminded of what you spoke to Venus about. Sally, and her digivolving. Pulling the red and silver device out, you hit the button you know is “menu”, pulling up the whole list and scrolling through. You’ve tried maybe a fourth of these options before, and you do remember how to find those ones again, so maybe this time you’ll find something interesting…?

Scrolling down again, you notice something a bit longer than the other words, and try clicking that one….only to bring up another list of words you can’t read. Great. However, you notice one of those words is highlighted, and when you scroll down to it…

A picture of Sally opens up. So, is this her...’entry’ in your digivice? You’re not sure what to think, but the bars below hers are darkened and unreadable, with a keyhole over the center. What does their being locked mean? You can’t be sure. Putting the digivice away for the time being, you try to turn back to your food, but the previous night’s conversation is still on your mind. You steal a glance at your partner, who is in the midst of happily devouring a whole bushel of apples. It couldn’t hurt to tell her what you talked about, right? Right.

Tapping your partner on the shoulder to get her attention- it’s a shame to drag her away from her apples- you motion for her to follow, heading back out to the courtyard where you spoke with the (digital) goddess of love last night. She follows, an apple still held in her teeth and another in each hand, slowly munching at the sweet fruit. Once you’re sure you’re out of earshot, you take a deep breath, and…

“Wayne, is this about last night?” Sally asks, muffled behind a golden delicious. You nod, slowly.

“Yeah, it is.” You clear your throat, a bit off balance from Sally’s (accurate) guess, before recollecting your composure. “I told you that Venus asked to talk with me, but I didn’t know what about. Well…” You try to think of a better way to put it, but in the end, can’t think of anything more than what you had coming into this. “One of the things we talked about was--”

“Was us, right?” She asks almost casually, taking another bite of her apple. Noticing your surprise, she grins, and holds out one of her hands. In her palm, surrounded by swirling smoke, is the little cat you had noticed being missing. “This is more than just decoration, Wayne. What it sees, I can see, if I close my eyes. And when I went to sleep last night, this little one didn’t. I heard most of what was said between you two.” She looks rather pleased with herself, smiling brightly before taking another bite of apple. “And…”

Now her expression shifts to something a bit more serious, and she pauses before continuing. “And I agree with you. Everything has been moving very quickly, for the both of us. I’ve changed twice now, and already, everything is so different to me.” She stares at the fruit in her hands, as if thinking deeply on more than just herself.

“And your new friend is right. About all of it.” With a sigh of her own, she pops the rest of the apple into her mouth, claws slicing the core out nimbly in a display of dexterity that you almost miss. “She’s very wise, Wayne. I may not know too much, but I know that, at least, is true.” She looks at the last apple, before offering the fruit to you. After staring at it for a moment, you reach out to take it, only for her claws to slowly close over your hand as you do so. Looking up, you’re met with an almost wistful expression on your partner’s face as she looks at your two hands, so different in size. Then her claws open up, and she’s back to smiling mischeviously at you. “She seems to have taken an interest in my partner, as well.” Before you can even start to deny anything, your spellcasting partner’s broken into a knowing giggle. “Oh, you needn’t worry, Wayne. I’m not upset- you managed to earn a God’s favor by being yourself. I think it’s quite an accomplishment!”

Before you can say anything else, or be further surprised by your own digimon, you hear a large, bellowing, and very easily recognized laugh from the other side of the building.

It seems your hosts have come to check in on you.

Putting the current conversation on hold (indefinitely, if you’ll have your way) you and Sally return to the guest house proper, only to be greeted by a sight straight out of the books.

The table’s nearly full, now, with more digimon than you remember meeting. You can see Jupitermon and Neptunemon at the head, fighting over...some kind of bird… and generally making all the noise that brought you in; a digimon that resembles a blue and green furred lion- no, wait- it’s a man in an animalskin, dressed like a trapper….if a trapper wore all his kills as his outfit. Beside him is another animal-like digimon, though this one you have no doubt actually has the head of a beast. A lion, to be exact, though it’s hard to tell, what with his whole body giving off an unearthly light not unlike flames. You’d hazard a guess that this is Apollo...mon. Beside him is a woman in a full suit of gleaming white and blue armor; since every piece of it evokes a moon, you’re of the idea that this is Diana. She doesn’t look too pleased to be here, but then again, sitting next to a living sun might not be the most fun experience. The chair on her other side is vacant...again, likely because she doesn’t appear to be in the best of moods. At the other end of the table is a….a big….you have no idea what that thing is supposed to resemble, but based on how much wine it’s drinking, it might be safe to say it’s Bacchus. On the other side of the table are a few more familiar faces- Zoe and Aslan, and next to them, Venus. Zoe waves from where she’s sitting, and Venus sends you a smile, before turning back to her cup, apparently ignoring the discussions being thrown about the table.
