Theatre class goes on by rather smoothly, mostly because you don’t really do anything in theatre class today. History class as well is mostly spent reviewing the fall of the Roman Empire and a small coverage of the early stages of the Dark Ages. Nothing too special and nothing revolving around tanks. Keegan and Smith though are pretty keen on taking lots and lots of notes on the subject.

Lastly, you get French out of the way. You pay extra close attention in French class, considering you’ll be spending time in France.

The building however is too stories, allowing for multiple facilities that’ll help simplify a lot of things, and thus allowing you to operate more independently of the school. If this HQ had just been a wooden one you assembled yourself, hell it might not even be here.

You enter into the lobby, whistling at the fresh, clean, area. From the sounds of it, your crew are inside the lounge, so that’s where you head. The lounge is a large room, with couches, TVs, tables, etc. You can see the Polish playing Ping Pong with each other at the far end.

Radio operators will be busier than ever relaying not only tactical information but with the maneouvering around dangerous ground the commanders must micro-manage their coordination much more.

Everyone takes notes. You look out the window briefly to see how bad it is outside. Nothing but rain, and you can see some brief flashes of lightning in the distance. The thunder that ensues however is quite quiet.

Dubois continues. “Thus, it’s always best to engage your opponent at an angle where their armor is flattened. Though you should aim for weakspots, you should also make efforts to aim where the armor is thinnest. At least where it’s most visible.”

You nod, taking a few more notes on the subject.

The Sherman tries to power through a very thick mudslick in the fields, along with almost every other tank.

Surprisingly enough, of all things, the Panther appears to be having the time of its life. Either Luciano’s a really good commander and her driver’s badass as fuck or you’re missing some information on the Panther.

Lisa shouts back at you, “This isn’t working! We’ll throw a track at this rate! We’re immobilized!”

You grit your teeth then turn out. The water immediately hits you like a cold shower. For safety purposes, you’ve all been given helmets and goggles along with the rain ponchos. You take out your binoculars and try to figure out what the situation is. So far, Dubois’ been silent ever since she ordered you and your tanks to take a lap around the field.

You look down at the mudslick. Your tracks are at least a couple of inches into the mud. Pushing it harder will just throw a track. The Panther rolls past at reasonable speed, leaving you in the proverbial dust.

The Churchill rolls alongside you. Cathy turns out of the hatch. “Hey, Gertrude! Need a tow out of there?”

The Churchill slowly edges forward, Tara hanging onto the turret and watching the cable as it goes taut. The Sherman slowly but surely gets pulled out of the mud slick.

“Groovy!” you shout. Suddenly, there’s a slight bump, and Tara slips, impacting the engine and falling off in front of the Sherman. “Whoa! LISA STOP!” The Sherman brakes, and the Churchill brakes shortly after.

Cathy and you run over to Tara. “Tara!?” You sit Tara up.

You lift Tara in a bridal carry. “We won’t know until we get back to HQ. Take her back quick as you can. We’ll catch up,” you say.

Cathy helps Tara back into the Churchill, and you and Ramirez quickly run back into the Tank.

“Right, Lisa, get us back to HQ.”

The Sherman begins thundering through the mud and the rain. You decide not to rush Lisa, any mistake out her could mean getting stuck. You’re not sure where the rest of the crews are. You’re pretty sure the Chi-Ha simply gave out and it had to be towed out of the fields by Dubois’ Sheridan.

You arrive at the HQ in good time.

You can barely see the targets through the periscope, and trying to turn out isn’t much better. “Uh… Nancy,” you say, “See anything?”

Nancy says, “I can barely see the target.”

Dubois says, “Fire when ready.”

You look down at Nancy, “Nancy, on your go.”

The Sherman shakes at the firing of the 76mm. You check the target. The shot splashed the bottom of the target. You grimace. You see the other shots splash short or just overshoot. This rain is playing havoc with your rangefinding abilities.

Lightning flashes, then thunder booms, resonating even inside your tank. “Ramirez, another round.” Ramirez takes a shell out of the ready rack and loads it up. “Nancy, again.”

The Sherman fires again. The shot takes the top of the target off.

“Alright, I suppose that’s all we can do,” you say.

With that, your tanks are returned to the warehouse. Your crews all assemble inside, groaning. They look muddied and dirty from all that maneuvering practice. You remember the Rifle team had a problem with their Chi-Ha, and you don’t even want to know how the other crews fared.
