You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

Elena's baby sister is adorable!

She's also really freaking mean, and spit all over Marianne's face... though she seems to be handling her pretty well now.

>Congratulations, you are now a mangy DOG!
>Though dogs are loyal, they're not all that smart...
>The Princess now considers you to be her friend!
>But while dogs are man's best friend, they still don't count as people.

"Well I'll leave you two ladies to continue your conversation... don't mind me," you say with a wave as you head over to where Nicolette and Melanie are sitting.

"Oh hey," Nicolette says as she sees you approaching. "Decided to get away from Chiara before she decides to beat you up too?"
"Miss Nicolette is still angry from when the baby punched her in the um..." Melanie starts to mumble.
"Hit me right in my nonexistent chest," Nicolette says, rolling her eyes. "That shit still hurts, too."

That was a bit too much information...

"Anyways, you decided that the two of us are too hot to leave alone?" Nicolette teases.

"Miss Nicolette stormed away while doing her best not to swear in front of your grandmother," Melanie giggles. "I don't think she likes babies very much."
"I like babies just fine," Nicolette replies. "...as long as they're good, like how my brothers were when they were little," she sighs. "But I guess I didn't inherit my old man's ability to be adored by every single little kid ever."

"So what were you two talking about before I barged in?" you ask.
"Oh, Miss Nicolette was asking me if I wanted to go with her into the city tomorrow, since we'll be here for a few more days and Miss Sylvie had plans for tomorrow," Melanie replies.
"It's just an idea, you don't have to if you don't want to," Nicolette says, blushing slightly.

"Oh no, it sounds like fun!" Melanie says happily.
"C- cool," Nicolette mumbles, trying to hide her embarrassment.

Might as well get to the point... and also give Nicolette some time to recover.

"Uh, were you still interested in that dance?" you ask Melanie.
"Of course!" Melanie replies. "But if you had something else planned, you don't have to worry about keeping me company..."
"Nah, it's fine. I promised you a dance, after all.
"Umm, okay then..." Melanie says as she gets up from her seat.

"Don't worry about me, I'll go and bother my aunt until you two get back," Nicolette says, waving the two of you off.

>>
>>29206510

>>29206561
This is perfectly acceptable small-talk.

And perhaps just before starting the dance proper:
"I'll try not to get too carried away."

It's probably better not to cause any more troublesome gossip around our maid friend than is strictly necessary, and on top of that, it's not terribly likely that she's going to be at the same level of dance training as Luciana proved to be, so it would be unwise to just let our dancing instincts run free.

Nicolette is a royal noble and a niece of this country's king.

Everyone here is expecting her to get married to a dude and have an heir. That's just how it works.

They will not react to her dancing to a girl at all. Especially a peasant girl. That's like such a gigantic fucking scandal.

It's condescending, but not "BURN IN HELL FAGGOTS". And Gregory himself didn't seem that opposed to it, unless he does not take his daughter seriously at all.

Let's play a game, who among the cast is the most susceptible to homophobia, according to you? And does this person can do anything about it if Nicolette and whoever decide to act on their feelings?

Yeah, well, I guess everyone else will just have to go fuck themselves.

Granache is not Marconetti, and somehow I don't think Gregory or Arianne are going to give her much shit over her preferences.

Problem is with Melanie – we don't know if she's even bi.
>>
>>29206703
No, the problem is that this is literally the worst time and place to play matchmaker.

Nico already asked Melanie out on a date. Let her do her thing and stop trying to get her publicly ostracized.
>>

>No, the problem is that this is literally the worst time and place to play matchmaker.

We're not in Granache right now. She dances with the meido here at this ball in Marconetti with tons of attending foreign nobles and it'll cause all kind of problems. They aren't even going out and we don't even know Melanie's preferences. Keep this shit private.
>>
>>29206703
Still, this is a birthday party. Let's not ruin that- especially since a big part of that is Reinhold's brother in law revealing his painting gift.

Also, matchmaking others, when Reinhold says he has no interests in relationships himself and actively avoids and tells people off when they try to do it to him, is not only hypocritical, but it can be likely to blow up in his face.

"So..." you say, turning to Melanie. "How's the party been for you so far?" you ask. "Have you done anything else other than hang out with Nicolette?"
"It's been alright, I suppose," Melaine says, fidgeting. "But I can't exactly say that I've enjoyed myself very much, what with Milien showing up and me being hit on whenever I stray too far away from Sir Gregory," she sighs.
"Yeah, I can't exactly blame you there."

"As for what I've been up to, I've mostly been talking with Miss Nicolette," Melanie says. "I feel kind of bad for her, since she -really- doesn't like events like this. I was also talking with Miss Sylvie while she was at the table... but she went off to find something else to do after a while since she didn't want to monopolize my time."

"Umm... if I'm not butting in too much, I cold tell that she also wanted to dance with you," Melanie says, blushing slightly. "But she was being more self-conscious than usual about bothering you. Did someting happen?"

>how do you respond?
>>
>>29206825
Gay after a few beers is definitely limited to women/girls only. If a dude did that he's a faggot. A girl does that and it's like "hahaha, cool, lesbians."

It's a pretty shitty double standard for dudes who wanna fuck dudes and not be fags but, that's the world we live in.
>>
>>29206841
Lesbian is literally just a phase, and is fine as long as girls get married and have boy babies, unless they find out in which case you're totally ostracized and in for some rape-time. Male homosexuality is A-Ok as ong as you're on top and it's not publicly known.
>>
>>29206779
Your forbidden love requires more time to foster before facing the harsh realities of public scrutiny in this country. Or do you want Melanie to lose her chance at becoming head maid and reject Nicolette in public because she doesn't have a stronge enough romantic interest in Nico too embarrass and potentially ruin her family's business?

Gotta make sure she falls for Nico before we start pulling out the stops.

"Probably best to wait for an opening," you say.
"I agree," Melanie replies. "The other guests would probably take it poorly were we to try and force our way in."

Great. You're both on the same page, that'll make this easier. After a few minutes of waiting, you see a couple about to leave... Deciding that this is exactly what you were waiting for, you take Melanie's hand and quickly pull her along in order to take their place before someone else does.

Though she does stumble a bit, Melanie keeps up with you and so the two of you manage to successfully make it onto the dance floor.

"I'm not sure how good a dancer I am, but I'll try not to embarrass us," Melanie says with a nervous smile as the two of you get into the proper positions.

Unlike Luciana, Melanie's quite conscious of things like how close you are to each other and the proper positioning of your hands... you're actually pretty surprised about how much she knows about this dance.

And so, you begin.

STEP

TURN

STEP

You start slow, and then gradually increase your speed... though your final pace is closer to Agnes's than Luciana's. Probably because of how self-conscious she is about this entire thing.

Though she's a bit stiff, Melanie's form is pretty much perfect! Though she seems to be a bit better than you, her unease kind of drags down your pace... this is still pretty nice, though.

And after a little while, it looks like she's actually starting to get into it!

There's no sense in stopping artificially short just as we've gone past the awkward starting phase, after all. But we also don't want to drag things out beyond what feels natural.

Read the mood, Reinhold. We know you're a dancing machine, but get carried away and push Melanie past her limits.

Seeing as how Melanie's actually enjoying this now, you might as well keep on going for as long as you can manage.

Though she's still a bit stiff and is pretty conscious of making sure that the two of you aren't dancing too close (looking back on it, Luciana was probably doing that on purpose), Melanie's keeping up with you pretty well.

Or rather, she's about at the same level of skill as you are!

"Ehehe..." Melanie giggles. "I guess that month I spent as the Princess's dance partner while Sir Gregory was standing in as her bodyguard actually paid off!" she says, smiling at you.
"Oh, so that's why you-" you reply.
"Yes, Sir Gregory was rather adamant about not dancing, and I happened to be around..."

Considering how much he hated acting as her bodyguard, of course he'd refuse to go so far as to dance with her.

The two of you continue your dance for a little while longer, but then you start to notice Melanie's pace slowing...

"HOW DARE YOU!" you hear a man shouting from close-by. Startled by the sudden outburst, Melanie stumbles, but you manage to catch her before she falls into someone.
"I think that's our signal to stop," you say to the maid as you help her regain her balance.
"Yes, I agree," she says, flustered.

Once the two of you make it off of the dance floor, you quickly check on Marianne... while the shouting came from another part of the room, it's still your job to make sure that she's fine.

...and she's over at Sir Gregory's table, still playing with Chiara and completely oblivious of any disturbances. Good.

"Umm... what was that about?" Melanie asks as she looks in the direction that the shouting came from.
"I don't know..." you reply as you do the same.

Shit... Sylvie or another of your friends might be involved, you should probably go check things out.

"Sorry, Melanie..." you say as you look in the direction of the commotion.
"No, I understand," Melanie says, nodding. "I'll make sure to keep out of your way."
"Thanks."

With that out of the way, you go in search of whoever just shouted like that, with Melanie close behind. You figure that it shouldn't be too hard to do so, considering that the shouting seemed to be coming from not too far away... and you're right.

Pushing through the crown, you make it to an area where the guests seem to have formed a circle around the source of the incident. You see an angry-looking Rana twisting a nobleman's hand in the air while Reya tries to console a lady...

...wait, you know who these people are.

Close to the crowd-formed border, you see Monique.

Who is trying to keep Milien from attacking the man who Rana is restraining.

See what?

Reinhold got half the story out of Nicolette and Melanie. When the party started and Melanie made Milien the gig was up and Reinhold started talking to Milien, who was basically totally unrepentant about the thing.

Monique knows that Milien did a thing and left Granache after (because of?) it. He doesn't know all the sordid details.

If he did I imagine this would be going in quite the opposite direction.
>>
>>29208272

"In that case, why the hell are you holding me back?" Milien asks.
"Because starting an international incident over something like this is kind of stupid, maybe?" Reya replies as he lets Milien's hand go.

"These men can't prove that I've done anything wrong, so would you please let me go?" the nobleman says, sneering at Rana.
"...I don't think do," Rana replies as she twists his arm behind his back, ignoring his shouts of pain. "There've been more than a few complaints about a grabhappy guest here at the party, and you've been caught in the act."

"And considering that I myself am -also- a lady, I don't really appreciate such assholish behavior..." Rana says as she maintains just enough pressure on the man's arm to make it horribly uncomfortable for him.
"H- how dare you..." the nobleman mutters, grimacing from the pain.

"If it's outside the party, I don't give a damn what you do," Rana says to Milien as she gestures with her free hand for the spectators to move out of her way. "But I'm going to eject this -gentleman- from the premises immediately, so try not to do anything stupid, okay?"
"Thank you," Monique says with a bow. "I appreciate your efforts to keep the situation from escalating, Miss."

"Just thought I'd make sure that the lady here was okay after all that," you say. "Nicely handled back there, by the way," you say with a nod of acknowledgement.
"Yes, well there was no sense in allowing an international incident to happen, regardless of how much that fool deserved to be beaten into a pulp," Monique replies.
"My husband laughs off any insults to himself, but he has a short temper when it comes to people doing anything to me," Josephine sighs.

"You re Milien's... wife?" Melanie asks.
"Yes, do you know him?" Josephine replies.
"As much as I wish that I did not," Melanie says, her hands trembling with anger.
"Er- if you're angry about what he did back in Granache, I can assure you that Milien truly regrets what he did and has been nothing but a perfect gentleman ever since..." Josephine says, sensing Melanie's anger.

It's a fight for fuck's sake you dumbass.
In practice we hit the half-dragon on the head if I recall correctly.
SHOULD WE HAVE WARNED HIM THAT WE MAY HIT HIM IN THE HEAD?

Shit breaks in fights.
If you fucking say to somebody: 'Yo man watchout I may break your sword because I'm good at that.'
Do you react with fear and concern for your beloved sword, or do you think; truth or not this asshat is boasting, I'll show him I'm no pushover.
?
>>
>>29208907
You see, the problem is that swords normally don't break. Reinhold's technique is what causes them to break at an abnormal rate, so he's apologizing for using it in the guy's special family sword...

Ok, who here thought it would be a swell idea to go straight to Josephine and introduce Melanie to here instead of just paddling the fuck out, because guess what?

"I see that you've been- never mind," Melanie says, covering her face with her hand.

Realizing that something's up, Monique seems as if he's about to ask a question but instead stops himself and sighs.

"In any event, it's nice seeing -you- again, Melanie," Monique says, bowing. "And you look lovely in that dress."
"Thank you," Melanie replies with a forced smile. "Please forgive me if I don't seem particularly responsive to your compliment..."
"No worries, I know how it is to have your mood fouled by the sudden appearance of someone who you don't care for," Monique says, glaring at you.

You're right, ok? Shit does break in fights, and people should get over it. But people are not always logical like that. It's more of a courtesy thing than anything else.
>>29208921
We shouldn't have to apologize for a fighting style in the tournament, shit happens. It's ridiculous to think that we should alert people before a fight that we kick ass. We do still need to apologize, not because we did anything wrong, but because it's the nice thing to do when someone -thinks- you did something wrong.

He shouldn't be upset about it.
It's an unfortunate side-effect of him losing.
He is only upset about losing.

Look at the goddamn character.
If we beat him but DIDN'T break his sword would he feel at all differently?
Or would he still be just as pissed that he lost to some whoreson?
>>
>>29208949
>>apologize for breaking his family heirloom

>>29209006
Reinhold is a man of feelings. I feel like he'd apologize just to clear the air. I feel like Reinhold has apologized for a lot of shit were he did nothing wrong. Remember when Marianne was all pissed off because she thought we didn't want to spend time around her? We knocked on her fucking door and apologized to her. Did we "lack respect" for her? No? Than the only reason you don't want to apologize to Monique is because you personally don't like him. Which could be considered a decent reason to not apologize, but that's not the argument you used, and it's certainly not the type of character Reinhold has proven himself to be.
>>
>>29209038
He'd be totally pissed he lost to a commner.

Might as well get it over with now, seeing as how he's right here...

"Hey, Monique," you say.
"...what do you want?" Monique replies, an annoyed look on his face.
"Uh... I'd like to apologize for breaking your great-grandfather's sword back in the tournament," you say. "I honestly didn't mean to, and-"
"Oh. I get it now," Monique cuts you off. "You came all this way to rub it in my face, right?"

As Josephine looks at Monique with a concerned expression, you start to maybe think that now wasn't the best time to apologize...

"No, it wasn't like that-" you stammer. "Your brother told me that it was a family heirloom, and I know that I'd feel pretty awful if the same thing happened to me..."
"Stow it," Monique says. "You destroy my sword, steal my position, punch me in the face, and constantly harass me whenever we happen to be in the same vicinity... and today you make me look foolish for calling you a whoreson by showing off the fact that your own great-grandmother is a reknowned duelist, and now here you are RIGHT after I just got dealing with an unpleasant incident that you doubtless were witness to, -just- to rub my greatest failure in my face AGAIN."

With a loud applause, Celestino makes his way to the center of the platform and extends his arms towards the audience.

"Friends, allies and subjects of the Crown, I thank you for coming all this way just to celebrate my youngest son's birthday!" Celestino says, a beaming smile on his face. "While the party itself shall extend well into the night, I believe that it's about time that I presented my own gift to my son Emilio... could you come up, son?"

The crowd then suddenly parts as Emilio and Karel make their way to the front of the room as the crows murmurs. Though he looks rather nervous to be put on the spot in front of all these people, the Prince is able to successfully make it to his father's side without embarrassing himself.

"For those who didn't know, this right here is the birthday boy, Emilio Marcello di Marconetti!" Celestino exclaims, placing a hand on either of his son's shoulders.
"T- thank you for coming to my birthday party..." Emilio says trying (and failing) to do so in a loud voice.

With his son standing before everyone, Celestino then peeks behind the curtain behind him and motions for someone to come on out... and of course it's Marius.

"Seeing as I know of your interest in swordsmanship and the dueling scene, I happened to commission my favorite artist here to paint something that you'd like..." Celestino says, turning to Marius.
"Er, yes," Marius says, adjusting his glasses nervously. "My wife happened to drag me to the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament back home in Granache, and while I was there I was inspired to do this piece. And my wife provided the name, which I think completes the piece..."

With his introduction done, the curtains behind them part to the sides, revealing what is obviously a large canvas painting under a dropcloth.

"And without further ado, Prince Emilio, I present to you..." Marius says as he grabs one side of the dropcloth, "...my latest work!"

Marius then pulls the dropcloth aside, revealing a painting housed in an ornately-carved wooden frame, gilded with gold and decorated with fine jewels. And though said frame itself is fancy enough, it doesn't at all tke away from the painting which it holds...

...well.

While Marius did say that he was inspired by the tournament, -this- is a bit of a surprise.

The painting itself is of two figures... one one side, a faceless man in otherwordly clothing swinging his sword at another faceless man on the opposite side, this time with long hair and fancier clothing. He himself is swinging a thinner sword... or at least, the hilt of a thinner sword.

Because the blade itself is shown in pieces, shattered by the first figure's swing.

"It was inspired by the final round of the tournament," Marius says. And my wife came up with the name, which I think is rather fitting... 'Swordbreaker.'"

Oh god.

That's of...

...and he's standing right there...

"Oh wow..." Emilio slowly approaches the painting. "This is just... thank you so much..." he says, a wide smile on his face.
"So I take it that you like the painting?" Celestino asks.
"Of course!" Emilio replies excitedly.

"That lovely painting that Mr. Lanzmann there made for you happens to be of my greatest failure, when THIS MAN right here," Monique says, pointing at you, "caused my loss in my home country of Granache by so mercilessly destroying the sword that I'd inherited from my great-grandfather, Marquise Gilbeault."

"So RIGHT HERE and RIGHT NOW," Monique shouts in his most authoritative voice, "I, Monique Gilbeault, son of Marcel Gilbeault, captain of His Majesty's Border Guard of Granache, challenge THIS MAN," he points to you, venom dripping from his voice, "REINHOLD, son of the true holder of the nickname 'Swordbreaker' Volker Eschenwald, to a duel!"

Standing just behind you, you can hear Melanie gasping.

And then pretty much everyone in the hall breaks out into shouting, though it is quickly silenced by Celestino raising an arm.

"You shan't destroy my weapon this time... I'll show you the true extent of my skill as a swordsman, and reclaim my honor!" Monique says, then turning to the Prince. "And while your gift of the original Fragment Blade was from my family, I myself shall present you with the greatest duel that you have ever seen in your entire life, Your Highness!"

No grandiose pronouncements.

"I, Reinhold, accept.", if anything.

We are the foil to Monique's opulence: subdued, refined silence, earthy emotions. We're not a peacock.

We are Reinhold, and need no heralds but our own name.
>>
>>29210020
After we get conformation and the go ahead some over-the-top hamming would be great.

The gossip of nobles is heard around you as Monique waits for your replay. A crazy grin floats onto your face and you begin laughing as loudly and evilly as you can, like a stage actor at a poor theatre.

"MONIQUE GILBEAULT!" You shout at the top of your lungs, pointing skyward with one hand and silencing the nobles around you. Melanie's face blanches before she covers it with her hands, "Oh god..." she groans anticipating your upcoming performance. "I will show you that not only do I, REINHOLD, son of someone, and CAPTAIN of Her Majesty's Body Guards, have the FORTITUDE to accept your duel, I also can carry the burden of the HOPES and DREAMS that my comrades entrust in me!"

You begin walking towards the stage, passionately moving your arms in theatrical motions, "For you see, ever since our last honorable battle, I have trained with many unique and talented individuals." You sweep your arm through the air to create the impression of a secret revealed, "I have learned the arcane arts from Granache's Mysterious Bespectacled Mage," You can almost feel the heat from Sylvie's blush. "I have sparred again and again against the Bloody Gale's own ferocious daughter," Nico audibly groans. "A wizened MASTER butler has taken me under his wing, and I have challenged DRAGONS themselves to contests of endurance." By this time you're on the stage.

"Today alone I have danced with kind maids," You extend your arm and hand as if to offer a dance to the entire audience, "With clever princesses," Luciana, who has been enjoying the show this whole time gets an icy look and arches her eyebrow as if to say, 'That was his best compliment for me?', "And with the mother of the very man whose name you invoked in this challenge! BUT! The waltz of battle we shall dance to this SONG of STEEL and SWORDS will be the greatest dance of them all MONIIIIQUE GILBEAAAAUULLLTTT!"

at least thats what I wish will happen

_____________________

Seriously. Everything has been going downhill for Monique since Rienhold appeared. Yes he maybe a peacecock or an arrogant fop. But he is a gentlemen. He is a skilled swordsmen who got his position probably due to his skill and effort. Last of all, he has a good heart.

I truly wish for him to win. I truly do.
>>
>>29210476
>win and humiliate reinhold
>falls deeper into his own arrogance
No thanks.

I want a draw.
>>
>>29210476
Reinhold got to his position through skill and effort and he did it with out being an arrogant and egotistical fop with a victim complex.
>>
My goodness, that was wonderful. Have fun, Arch.

I think Reinhold will not just accept, but be might be darn happy to fight.

Monique was one of the tougher swordsmen we fought in the tournament, and we love fighting strong opponents. Up until now, save for kidnappers, we've only had practice matches...granted against awesome people, and breaking a half dragon's mantra claws, but win or lose, fighting Monique will be tough and will be FUN.

Even if we lose, we laugh, because we want to do it again sometime. It's only about winning or losing to us when someone's life is on the line. If Monique has become a better swordsman than us then we congratulate that because it means we get a rivalry.

It sucks having only a small handful of sparring partners, an having an accessible rival in Monique will be great, even if he doesn't see it that way.

"I want to fight you again "

"What, I've just bested you, have you no honor?"

"Not now, not for honor, but soon, and for fun. That fight was amazing, you really were serious about that training and it's paid off," smile and laugh a scary laugh.
>>
>>29210494

It is not about humiliating Reinhold. It is about regaining his honour and pride. You do realize Reinhold literally stomped his honour.

Not just because he lost the tournament. Monique at least shown us that he is able to deal with it. But constant humiliations. Like a punch to face, or losing a family heirloom and even being grandson of Agnes who is why his grandfather is destroyed by Arnaud. Let's not forget his damaged reputation. Yet despite all this, he still managed to hold himself together.

Now thanks Reinhold's insesntivie brother in law and sister, that one loss became immortalized.

Sure, when you have to do something during work hours you don't even mention it to your boss.

>>29210550
Problem is, none of it is Reinhold's fault. It isn't anyone but Monique's fault for being so arrogant and stubborn. If he just did what normal people do and let go of it then none of this would have happened.
>>
>>29210508
>>29210555
>>29210570
>>29210576

>>29210508

You are insensitive because you are treating something Monique gives so much value.

He won't let it go because he simply can't. It is not just simple fucking loss in tournament that Monqiue is having so much problems over. But it is literally having his pride stomped on, his pride as a gentleman and swordsmen.

If half of that was done to you, you would be frothing at mouth.
>>
>>29210629
>losing the tournament
What's the big deal? Really, I doubt anyone normal would go crazy because they lost a competition fairly. Monique isn't bad, but his flaws are the cause of this.

>getting punched by the bodyguard
It wouldn't have happened because Reinhold isn't a dick. The reason he was punched is because he offended Nico's mom.

>grandma is Agnes
What sort of control does anyone have of this?

>the painting
Again, somebody normal would get over it.
Yes, it's embarassing, but not enough to go psycho about it.
>>
>>29210592

Painting...

>>29210609

What you guys don't understand is Monqiue was enough of gentleman to at least control himself. He did not pursue revenge after his loss. He did not try to humiliate you.

But now, there is a painting of him losing, of his sword shattering much like his grandfather's will to fight which he so idolized.
>>
>>29210629
No, Monique is being the insensitive one because he is so fucking self-absorbed and obsessed with his pride that he can't even realize that people aren't out to get him and that Reinhold or Grandma or the Lanzmanns genuinely don't want to fuck with him.

He's turned his broken ego into a goddamn conspiracy theory. He's TOO prideful. The amount of value he's put in this is unhealthy
>>
>>29210659
And that painting isn't our fault. Or even Marius's fault.

You're going on about his pride but what about the sentimentality behind the painting for the artist to honor his brother-in-law? You're being insensitive to think that that sentimentality should be disregarded because one guy can't handle his damaged pride like a real fucking man.
>>
>>29210676

But Monqiue isn't that one guy GOD DAMN IT.

He is a character with his own virtues and flaws, real fuckin flaws.

It is easy to talk about taking it like a man from behind your keyboard. Put yourself in Monique's place and think god damn it.

Yes, not everything is Reinhold's fault, yes he is prideful, arrogant and self-obsessed but despite these flaws he is someone who took hits to his reputation better than anyone of you could.

Think about that.
>>
>>29210663
Yeah, he's not being rational at all, but that doesn't mean we should just write him off.

Just because it wasn't our fault doesn't mean he doesn't have a legitimate reason to be angry. He very much does, even if it doesn't make him right, but unlike us Monique doesn't have the benefit of viewing the world from a detached eye-in-the-sky perspective.
>>
>>29210734
>>29210741
No one is denying that he's a real character. No one is writing him off. No one doesn't think he has no reason to be an angry. Stop acting like they are.

The issue is not us. Or Reinhold. Or anything. The issue is Monique and his own problems that he is not handling well. Sympathy doesn't change that fact.

You're arguing about nothing.
>>
>>29210757

Monique was dealing with his own problems. He was handling them better than most. Thing is, fate doesn't give him a fuckin break.

It is just not one loss or one insult. It is a humiliation conga that started with Reinhold.
>>
>>29210734
Don't accuse people of stuff like that. He's behaving this way because he's egotistical and obsessed with his reputation. Not because bad things happened to him. Someone who gave less of a damn about what other people thought of them wouldn't behave like this.

If I was in his situation I'd probably just get depressed and withdraw farther away from everthing then I already am. I would not behave like this at all. Because I don't share Monque's views on any of this.

Would I be handling it better? Debatable. But I wouldn't be handling it this poorly. I'm just not the type of person to get all "the world's out to get me' about these things.
>>
>>29210757
I'm just saying that people need to stop trying to be an asshole towards him just because he's doing it to us. If you deny that is happening, then you are a liar. The Monique hate camp is just as bad as he is, if not worse. At least he has a personal grievance behind his blind hate.

We're rapidly approaching the point where Monique will either end up as a permanent antagonist who's single role in the story is to fuck Reinhold in any way possible, or as the rival who gets some character growth and joins team goodguy. How we handle our interactions with him is going to be the main determining factor, so I'd think about that before deciding that eye-for-an-eye douchebaggery is the way to go.
>>
Moniquefag please go and stay go.
>>
>>29210817
And I'm saying you're overreacting. The Monique hate camp isn't even that large. Furthermore, the posts you pointed out weren't even supported by anyone and a couple weren't even the insensitive thing you're making them out to be.

Monique is not a child. It is not our job to be all nice to him when he doesn't handle things well. He's picking this fight because he just won't let things go. We're agreeing because it might actually lead to him to letting go. But he needs to understand that he's being unreasonable about this.
>>
>>29210817
As someone who has been saying again and again that this is Monique's fault I have to say that I agree that being a douche about it isn't the way to go, but I have to point out that wasn't the point of the discussion: it was wheter or not Monique's acting like a prick.

Obviously the best choice is for him to be a rival/good guy, but his actions aren't helping refer to "being a prick"), which sadly means we need to compensate on our end.
>>
>>29210873
>>29210817
Also, letting him win would just make things worse. He would remain a prick and he wouldn't become a good guy/rival. He'd just shove it on Reinhold's face and call him a whoreson again.
>>
>>29210851

Problem is my dear anon, most of these posts didn't take him seriously.

We don't need to be nice to him. We don't need to actually spend effort on him at all. But we should at least take him seriously.
>>
>>29210881
Worse, he is aware enough to notice Reinhold letting him win, and he'll hate that even more.
>>
>>29210881

Letting him win would actually be worse. It would be like taking a shit on his broken pride.
>>
Why the hell would we let him win? Why are you even discussing this?
>>
>>29210881
>He'd just shove it on Reinhold's face and call him a whoreson again.
I'm sure he's going to keep calling us a whoreson pretty much no matter what we do. He's a dick.
>>
>>29210942

>>

>>
>>29210954

then I'd be completely pro befriending him.

>>
>>29210984

>>29210476
"I truly wish for him to win"
>>
>>29210984
Can you read? Again:
>>29210942
>Why the hell would we let him win? Why are you even discussing this?
>>
>>29210985
I want to like Monique and would love to see him evole into a bro in the future, but my main problem is that he is mentally disturbed. He has mutliple voices offering him conflicting advices and it is slowly driving him mad. He needs help.
>>
>>29211022
Anon, look at this debate.
Reinhold's only sane because he hasn't been consciously listening to the voices, hehe.

Jokes aside, it seems the voices tried to stop him, so they aren't bad.
>>
>>29211011

So? He doesn't say let Monique win, he says he wishes for him to win.

>>29210985

Maybe. But Reinhold isn't the right person for that.

So either Monique wisens up on his own or finds himself a new friend who helps him.

>>
>>29211628

>>
>>29211670
