Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to Mushroom Kingdom Quest. In this adventure, you'll be thrust into thy wild world of the Mario games, where you'll go on incredible adventures from the welcoming gates of Toad Town to the dreary Wiggler Woods to the magma-streaked mountains of World 8.

Before you can begin, though... what kind of Mushroom Kingdom denizen are you?

(continued in next post...)
>>
>>29195523
>Koopa Troopa
These turtle people, once meaningless footsoldiers in Bowser's evil army, have carved a name for themselves in the good community, always welcome in both the lands of Bowser and Peach.

As a Koopa, you get the ability to hide in your shell. You neglect all damage from outside sources, aside from liquids, gases or other things that can seep into your shell.

>Toad
As a Toad, your presence is unquestioned in Peach's towns. You are a friend to all, but you have trouble fighting for yourself.

As a Toad, you find it easy to get other toads on your side. You can also make use of any of Mario's power-ups, unlike the other species on this list.

>Shy Guy
Shy Guys are odd creatures from foreign lands that do not form bonds with other species well. Shy Guys are more welcome in Bowser's lands than Peach's.

As a Shy Guy, you have some knowledge of dark, tribal magic. You will gain spells as the quest continues. Also, Yoshis hate you.
>>
>>29195638
Fuck Yoshis!

>>

Shy Guy or Koopa Troopa. I like the Koopas because turtles, and Shy Guys because masks.
Do we get to pick what shell we are, Boo?
>>
>>29195638
Are X-naughts an option? Those guys were awesome.
>>
>>29195673
Shy Guys, Toads and Koopas will each get their own customization options.
>>
>>29195676
X-Nauts, as well as many other enemies and allies from the Mario series, will appear and have their place in this quest. (I'm a die-hard Mario fan.) However, Toads, Koopas and Shy Guys are the only options to play as.

Sorry to our Shy Guy supporters, but Koopa Troopa it is. Now, we can begin with the second stage of character creation.

You begin with ten points to customize your character. Spend them wisely!

>Green shell: FREE!
You begin with a green shell, a symbol of low status. In Peach-aligned communities, this has no effect. But you will commonly be laughed at in Bowser's Castle and other communities of baddies.

>Red shell: 2 points
A red shell implies more status than a Green shell. It makes little difference in Peach and Toad communities, but Bowser's Castle will see you as a strong, smart member of society. The Red shell makes you more balanced, and gives you the ability to spin around in your shell.

>Blue shell: 4 points
The Blue shell is a sign of pedigree. Bowser- and Baddie- aligned communities see you as a member of high society, someone strong and intelligent. It comes with the spinning combat benefit of the Red shell, but much faster.

>Wings: 5 points
If you have a Green shell, you can flap your wings and jump high into the sky. If you have a Red or Blue shell, you can outright fly.

>Companion: 3 points
When your adventure begins, you have a trusty childhood friend with which to begin your adventure. Your companion can be a Bob-Omb, Goomba, Shy Guy or Koopa in Bowser cities, or a Toad, Luma or Shy Guy in Peach communities.

>Choose Where to Start: 2 points
You can pick a place to start in the Mushroom Kingdom. The map will be revealed in the next post.

>High Authority: 3 points
If you choose (or randomly get) Bowser's Castle as a starting place, you have a place of authority in Bowser's Army.
>>
>>29196033
>Blue shell: 4 points
>Companion: 3 points; Shy Guy
>High Authority: 3 points
>>
Toads man,

We going to be Mario disciples.
>>
>>29196033
>Red Shell
>Wings
>Companion: Luma
>>
>>29196033
>Blue shell because we gotta go fast
That's 4 points.
>Companion (Shy Guy)
That's 7 points.
>Choose where to start
That's 9 points.
>>
>>29196033
My vote would be for Blue Shell, Companion (Shy guy), and Choose start.

However, I don't know how many points we have or what else they can buy.
>>
>>29196033
Is there a Kopapatrol or Magic Kopa option?
>>
>>29196103
>>29196065
Blue Shell, Shy Guy, and High Authority in Bowser's castle.

The customization phase of character creation is complete. Now...

Goddamn it, we could have gone double dragons with toads.

You don't see toads do shit except for only like 3 toads in Mario history.

That brave toad in Mario thousand door backstory and the blue and yellow toad in the 4 player Mario games.

Oh yeah, the last toad, the red toad but that only in a dream so no fucks are given.

You are awoken by a loud rapping at your door, accompanied by cackling shouts from an all-too-familiar voice.

"Wake up, lazybones!" it shrieks, "His Gnarliness King Bowser wants to see you!"

"Kamek..." you mumble as you stumble out of bed onto the stone floor, rubbing your eyes. You slip into your green shoes, turn the knob and open the door. Standing outside is Kamek, scepter in hand and tapping his foot. Behind his glasses, you can see that he's getting impatient. Standing next to him is your good friend Sal "Sly" Guy, his mask's eyes droopy and tired.

"Finally! Come on now, His Crudeness is waiting!" Kamek jumps onto his broom, puttering forward down the hall. Sal gives you a look, one eyebrow raised.

You only shrug in response.

* * *

You walk through the huge stone door of Bowser's office, and take a seat next to Kamek in one of the seats before his imposing onyx desk. He gives you a stare before roaring.

"Finally! Gosh, a king shouldn't have to wait so dang long for his underlings to show up! I ought to turn you into turn you into turtle jerky!"

He goes on for a little while, sticking in the same vein of shouting before Kamek finally grabs his shoulder.

"Your, uh... Rudeness, don't you think that you should explain to the commanders why you've called them here?"

Bowser nods, and sighs a little puff of smoke.

Bowser crosses his arms. "I'm sure you guys know that I've got a little thing for capturing Princess Peach, right?"

You and Sal give him a polite nod.

"Well, I've tried it so many times, but I just can't seem to keep her down! I've captured her, and Mario saves her. I've captured Mario, and she saves him! Heck, I've even captured the entire dang KINGDOM and it wouldn't work!" his face is getting red, and licks of flame escape from his maw. "I've thought about it, and... you guys are two of my most trustworthy underlings. I want you to organize an expert plot to kidnap Peach and make her mine for good."

Sal pipes up. "Wow, that's a lot of responsibility. I'll talk with Leo, and we'll be back to you tomorrow, ready and poised!"

Bowser shakes his head. "No, no. I don't want to wait. Give me your awesome idea now."

Sal looks at you with a frightened expression as he tries to think. Bowser and Kamek both raise eyebrows at you.

>"What's your great idea, Leo?"

Then we princessnap her
>>
>>29196559
Well, you see your dastardly-ness, the reason we have problems is the rescuing. So if they didn't know that she needed rescuing, they wouldn't come. So, you need to make a copy of the Princess to put in her place when you capture her, so Mario will just keep doing his normal thing. Which is... fixing pipes or something?
>>
>>29196520

"Fuck. I got to-a stomp some mothafucking Goomba heads!" said Mario in no Mario game ever.
>>
>>29196559
We set her up on a blind date - with Wario! He's so repulsive, when you save her from that disastrous outing, you'll look like a knight in shining armor!
>>
>>29196613

Brilliant. Replace her with Doopliss and be on our way! Actually, he was kind of a tard, so perhaps a more obedient and less prone to showboating robot would suffice?
>>
>>29196613
Now, as it generally happens. the copy will inevitably make slip ups and such, so we can't have her around Mario too much. So while you waltz off with the real Peach, we kidnap the fake one and do the whole, "musical castles" thing with her every so often, and Mario will never catch on.

Sweat drips from your forehead as you struggle to think of an idea. After minutes of strenuous thinking, you manage to think something up. "We set her up on a blind date - with Wario! He's so repulsive, when you save her from that disastrous outing, you'll look like a knight in shining armor!"

Bowser smiles at the idea. "That weird yellow guy I do go-karting with? Oh man, that's brilliant! But wait... what happens when Mario comes to get her?"

Your smile fades and you bite you lip, stuttering, "Well, you see your dastardly-ness, the reason we have problems is the rescuing. So if they didn't know that she needed rescuing, they wouldn't come. So, you need to make a copy of the Princess to put in her place when you capture her, so Mario will just keep doing his normal thing. Which is... fixing pipes or something?"

Bowser rubs his chin, trying to think of a flaw in your plan. Finally, he thrusts his shoulders up with a grin. "Well, Commander Koocaprio and Commander Sal Guy, congratulations. You have the entire Bowser Army at your disposal. Get on your plan, and quick! Before I, uh, pummel you!"

Kamek waves his wand, and you and Sal are pushed out the office as the door shuts.

You'd be correct. In Japanese (and other translations, notably Spanish), Vivian is specifically noted to be a male, even though she identifies as female. The English version dodges the subject by being wishy-washy but ultimately identifying her as female. It's on the inside what counts, after all.
>>
>>29197076
What do you mean "though"?

I thought it was assumed that that was the primary reason we'd be shipping them?
>>
>>29196846
Let's look around for cardboard to make a cutout from. Mario will never notice!

Or ask Bowser how he made those fakes in Super Mario 1. That could help.
>>
>>29196878
To be honest, I'm a little terrified and confused about how I'll implement the Paper Mario series here... I love the series, but I'm just not sure how it'll work.

>>29196866
You and Sal walk down the spiral staircase and through a door, into a moldy, dark room known as Kamek's Lab. The walls are lined with wands, brooms and scrolls, with tables and racks of glass bottles full of odd, brightly-colored liquids. In a drawer marked "DO NOT OPEN", you see the pink hem of a dress.

"Come on," says Sal, "there has to be something on making clones in here, I've seen Kamek do it before."

You search through his books, and pick out a thin pamphlet of interest. Giving it a blow, the dust spreads around the room. "Cloning Made Easy", it reads. You pull it open and see a bright, happy-looking recipe, covered in pictures of smiling Magikoopa and Shy Guys around pots and bottles, with two identical Koopas shaking hands.

"So, you want to make a clone, eh? Well with Cloning Made Easy (TM), it's never been simpler. To create a clone, you will need four simple ingredients.

-One Power Star
-Some of the victim's DNA (a bit of hair or three fingernail clippings should do!)
-A bunch of inert matter to form the body, such as a hundred pounds of oatmeal
-Twenty coins

Sal scratches his head. "This seems... a little demanding. Do you think we could find someone in the barracks who can change forms?"

>>29196952
You take a walk up to the barracks. All around are minions of Bowser, sleeping, reading, watching TV and just messing around.

"Hey," you call, "are there any Duplighosts on staff?"

A goomba raises an eyebrow. "Uhh, Duplighosts? Mr. Koocaprio, you should get your head checked. They're just one of those old Paper myths from the old stories."

>>29197051

(cont'd)
>>
>>29197189
I thought the primary reason we'd be shipping them was to distract Mario from going after Princess Peach. I really just figured it should be mentioned before she makes an appearance and surprises people.
>>
>>29196846
It seems the only way to insure the copy of the princess is going to be compitant is to go full bugs bunny and do it ourselves.
>go try on dresses.
>>
Enough talk of adorable transgendered shadow people, let's focus on the plan.

Maybe we can make Wario think that if he gets hitched with Peach, he'll be King of the Mushroom Kingdom, and thus the Treasury will be his?
>>
>>29197241
"Well, is there ANYONE around here who can change forms?"

Your question is almost immediately answered by a little goomba with a leaf upon his head. "I can!" he calls, waddling toward you. He reveals a tiny raccoon tail from behind his stubby legs, giving a toothy grin. "Name's Tanoomba! No doubt you've heard of the Tanooki suit, yeah? Well, folks like me can use the Tanooki's shapeshifting capabilities to our heart's content. Have you got a need for a shapeshifter?"

>>29197309
Bitches are not one of Wario's priorities (though he won't say no to a kiss). If you want Wario to go through with this, you have to convince him it's a surefire way to get into the Mushroom Kingdom coffers.
Plus, you gotta make sure Waluigi doesn't get all awkward or whatever he does.

X-naughts are a rival (though significantly weakened compared to their heyday) villain organization in another country (the setting of Paper Mario 2)
Kammy Koopa is Kopek's wife
Mario's friends are doing whatever they did in the epilogue (more or less), though They'd probably come help him if asked.
All the miraculously reformed villains are somewhat less reformed, but in semi retirement at this point.
>>
>>29197384
"Let's see your Princess Peach impression, son," you glare at the tiny goomba. A little uncomfortable, he coughs before giving you a nod.

"Yes sir!" he says as he swirls around in place, smoke surrounding him before in his place stands Princess Peach. You look up at "her", and she holds a gloved hand in front of her mouth.

"Hee hee! Oh, thank you, Mario!" she says, a perfect impression of herself, "I'll bake you that cake right away!"

You're just about ready to applaud, when Sal points at the princess's rump. Taking a look, you can see the same raccoon tail. Tanoomba looks back, giving it a wag.

"Oh," he says, in his normal voice, "that's going to be a problem, isn't it?"
>>
"Or... we could complete the set, and Mario might think she has one of those suits herself. I mean, with all the crazy stuff Mario comes across on all his princess-saving soirees, who WOULDN'T want to go and try some of it for themselves?"

But then it not so much a "blind date" so much as it is Wario trying to extort Peach to get the "Golden Cupcake." Remember, the idea is that Bowser has to obviously be a better date than Wario AND that no one actually notices that the princess is missing.

>>29197474
Yeeeeeeaaaah. Good effort, though.
That cloning recipe is looking mighty tempting right now. The oatmeal and coins are no problem, and Peach's DNA can be shanghai'd during the disastrous date with Wario. The Power Star, however, will be a little more work.
>>
>>29197474
*Nose bridge pinch* Well, this is the reason we were kidnapping her right? You're enlisted. I think we should see how the cloning spell works as a back up if "she" doesn't work out.
>>
>>29197474
Check around to see if Bowser has any of Peach's dresses lying around (dude totally does), then put on the dress and turn into Princess Peach.

In theory the tail should then be under the dress?
>>
>>29197522
We just need Bowser to save her, that's the important thing. But I guess we could try to get him to think he could marry his way into money, maybe some story about Princess needing to sing to open the MK castle vaults.
>>

Why don't we just give bowser the clone peach and SAY everything went as planned?
>>
>>29197441

Gosh darn it to heck- I see where this is going. We set up Peach with Wario, try to make him look bad, fail miserably, Peach and Wario end up falling in love for real, and trying to make Bowser look good fails and brings out Wario's noble traits.

We can't just assume Wario will be disgusting enough on his own. We have to MAKE SURE Wario is absolutely unsuited for the date.
>>
>>29197522
"Yeeeeeeaaaah. Good effort, though," you tell "her", before turning to Sal.

We should probably test the disguise first, actually. Pass our fake Peach onto some clueless underling and send him in before His Crudeness, see how long "she" keeps him foxed for. If he finds out, then it's the other guy who takes the fall for us, and if he doesn't and we have to break it to him, he'll at least have proof the plan will work. Hopefully.

With all due respect, Bowser is not hard to fool (when he's acting like comic relief). That said, we're not gonna send one of our boys to "take one for the team" like that.

>>29197887
The clone would go to Mario. If King B found out his own troops woop-de-woped him on getting him the princess, he'd pitch a fit. And by "pitch a fit," I mean RELEASE THE KRAKEN.
>>
>>29197887
>Sal puts his nubby hands to his hips. "That might work. But would we be giving the clone to Mario, or Bowser? If His Coolosity found out, we'd get fired! Like, actually set on fire!"

We will cross that bridge when we get to it...just throwing this out there for a laugh..what if we made 2 clones and kept peach for ourselves?

"Sal, let's just see if we could actually get away with it first."

Sal reluctantly agrees, and follows you down the hall.

* * *

You stand at the door to Bowser's office, and Tanoomba switches into his Peach disguise. Putting the dress over him to hide the tail, you send him in.

"Oh Bowser, sweetie!" he calls as he runs through, his voice perfectly mimicking the princess's. As the door shuts behind him, his voice (and Bowser's) is muffled.

After around thirty seconds, you can hear a loud, long shout and a blazing fire. Tanoomba walks out, his face ashy and his hair ablaze. The expression on his face is one of comically dumbfounded.

"IF I CATCH YOU SENDING ME ANOTHER FAKE PEACH, YOU'RE FIRED!"

We kidnap peach as per normal.
Then have the clone in bowsers castle, Mario rescues clone
Bowser gets real peach

You're a madman. I'd commend your ambition if it didn't involve having to find TWO Power Stars.

Or we could just hang out with/nab Daisy or something. THAT would throw people for a loop.
>>
>>29198023
Wait a minute.
We get Daisy to dress up as Peach!
>>
>>29198007
Okay, that went better than it could have. One, we know the disguised Peach idea probably won't work, and two, we didn't get made into Koopa thermidor with a side of coconut cream. Question Tanoomba to see where he went wrong, but otherwise, put the whole disguised Peach idea on the backburner.
>>
>>29198017
"Okay," you mumble as 'Peach' dusts herself off, "hat if we kidnap Peach like normal, and then we'll put the CLONE in our castle, and then Mario rescues the CLONE!"

Sal groans, looking just about ready to go home. "Leo, we need to get a definite plan, and go with it. I don't think Bowser wants to wait much longer, especially after what we just, uh, threw him."

>"So what's the plan? Is Wario still involved? How will we keep Mario from coming?"
>>
>>29198077
We all know Daisy hates Peach to some degree.

Or we can drug her.
>>
>>29198077
What if you got Daisy to help you catch Peach?

Well, that answers that.

>>29198120
First, we need to get most of the pieces for the clone spell, i.e. everything but Peach's DNA. That'll come last when the date happens. Speaking of which, anonymous invitations need to be sent to both Peach (who would NEVER turn down a dinner date -- she's royalty, after all, and she's nothing if not polite) and Wario (convince him there's money at the end of the proverbial tunnel), as well as prepping Bowser for his "big save." Once Bowser makes favorable contact and her DNA is captured, make the clone, and promptly whisk the real Peach away while the clone is immediately left in her place. This transition must be super-quick and flawless and is arguably the most dangerous part. If all goes off well, Mario and Luigi will be none the wiser.

Daisy and Peach are legit BFFs, though. Plus, at the rate their relationships with the brothers are going, they may as well be sisters-in-law. You're not going to get her to turn on either Luigi or Peach.

In other words, a "Daisy betrays Peach" plot will never happen.

(Also, I get an excuse to post casual princesses.)
>>
>>29198149
Sounds like a combo plater of everything we have worked towards so far, I love it.

In list form by order they need to get done:
[ ] acquire super star
[ ] send out letters to peach and wario
[ ] gather mundane cloning ingredients
[ ] princess DNA

Then we are ready for phase 2
>>
>>29198149
"Alright, I've got it. First, we need to get twenty coins, a hundred pounds of oatmeal, and a power star. After that, we've got to let Peach know about the blind date. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Then, convince Wario to go out with her. Of course, we have to find Wario. And when the date starts, we need to take the clone, put her in Peach's place in the palace, and have Bowser save the real Peach from Wario. That'll probably be the most dangerous part. If we're lucky, Mario and Luigi will be none the wiser."

Sal expresses a growing understanding as you speak. He stands quietly for a moment, looks at Tanoomba, and then finally gives you a high-five. "Let's get to it then!"

>New objective: prepare Bowser for the date
>New objective: collect Peach's DNA
>New objective: find Wario and convince him to go on the date
>New objective: get one hundred pounds of oatmeal
>New objective: find one power star
>New objective: get twenty coins

Wait, hear me out:

Bowser has been kidnapping peach a lot, yes?
They go cart racing, play soccer, do tennis, play mario parties, heck- they may as well have spent super mario sunshine together on holiday.

Shouldn't... do you think... do you think Bowser might have a lock of Princess Peaches Hair? We don't need the whole thing- just a couple of strands or something, but It might be worth it to look into it.
>>
>>29198359
I refuse to believe Bowser doesn't already have a lock of Peach's hair.
>>
>>29198464
That would be relatively creepy, but I wouldn't put it past him. See if he still has any "momentos" of the princess.

For the war effort, you see.
>>
>>29198464
Shit, I guess it's worth it to ask.
Or check the princesses former quarters in bowsers castle. She may have left some DNA there.

Same anon:>>29198464

Come to think of it, we've got this large list of demands, resources, etc...

We should probably go and ask Kamek if he can help us: He holds almost if not just as much administrative power as Bowser, he's more calm and level headed, and as long as we calmly word our requests we might actually get a pretty good head start on all this.

I mean, we're all in this together, may as well discreetly ask if Kamek knows if Bowser has any Princess peach hair. I'm sure he'll be on our side as long as we rationally explain our plan out.
>>
>>29198459
"I'm a Blue Koopa! This is underling work!" You shake your fist and storm down the hall into the barracks.

"Ten Green koopas, front and center!" you shout. In a moment, ten green-shelled koopa troops line up in front of you. You point at them, and with a stern glare, bark your orders. "Commander Guy and I are on an elite, covert mission to kidnap Princess Peach herself! To serve His Crassitude, you must bring us the following: one hundred pounds of oatmeal, and twenty coins!"

The green troops look at you, confused.

"THAT'S AN ORDER!" you shout, and they scatter off.

>>29198470

You head back into Bowser's office.
He gives you a glare. "What do you want now?"

"Well, Your Badness, Commander Guy and I were planning on making a clone of the Princess to keep Mario and Luigi busy, and the recipe calls for a lock of Peach's hair. You wouldn't happen to have any, would you?"

Bowser's eyes dart from side to side. "Uhh, of course I don't. That'd be weird."

Sal continues staring at him, arms crossed.

Bowser sighs, and begins picking through his wallet. He pulls out a small bag of blonde hair, and flicks it to Sal. "Don't tell anyone about that, or I'll burn you medium rare!"
>>
>>29198698
>Bowser sighs, and begins picking through his wallet

I just imagine Bowser keeping a wallet with his own Face on it and it makes me laugh audibly.

>He pulls out a small bag of blonde hair, and flicks it to Sal.

We should make a mental note to not use the "whole" bag of hair and give whats left back to bowser when we're done. It obviously means a lot to him.
>>
Ask Kamek where we can find a Power Star. Last I heard, they were in Peach's Castle, but it can't hurt to ask.
>>
>>29198698
I guess we kinda don't have to set up the peach/wario date anymore huh?

I still want to because it sounds fun..but we got the DNA..
>>
>>29198787

Can we go to Star Hill and wish for one? Does it even like, work like that?
>>
>>29198787
You turn to face Kamek, who's still in Bowser's office.

"Kamek," you ask, "where exactly can we find a Power Star?"

Kamek taps his chin for a second in thought. "The closest place would be Peach's Castle. Though if you're willing to go out of your way, there's an observatory I've heard about that stores them. Oh, and on Yoshi Island, there's a place called the Star Road, which is practically made of stars."

You thank Kamek, walking out of the office.

"Alright," you say off-handedly to Sal, "now all we need to do is find Wario."
>>
Check Bowser's Vault. He could be trying to purloin its contents at this very moment! If not that, then read the newspaper for any fabulous jewels that have been discovered and are conveniently being shown off in a museum. Wario's greed is legendary, after all.
>>
I wish we could have been like Mario's son in the distant future and the Mushroom Kingdom was in shambles cause Bowser has been reigning and destroying and we have to rise up in a world where powerups are scarce and invent our own mushrooms with some shy guy smugglers. and we get a gun
>>
>>29199016
and we get to throw a fireball from space
>>
>>29199012
>Check Bowser's Vault.
>Wario's greed is legendary, after all.

Wario is also a master-gosh-dang-thief.

That's a terrible idea, why would we ever put Bowser's Family Jewels in danger like that?
>>
>>29199102
We really wouldn't be putting it in danger more so than it already is. We're not specifically luring him there; just going to see if he's there by happenstance.
>>
>>29199016
This is only the first arc, son.

>>29199012
You go to the mess hall and pick up a newspaper. Flipping through the pages, you find nothing of interest, until a particular article makes you grin.

"The Emerald Shroom," you read, "is a colossal, shining green jewel that mysteriously grew into the shape of a mushroom. The gem is currently being moved into the Mushroom Kingdom Museum, where it will be put on display for all the people of the kingdom to see its glory."

Sal's mask is forming a smile just as yours. "Are you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" he asks. You respond with a not and a high five.

"Let's go find us a fat dude!"
