LAST EPISODE: You had an office visit from two women, one that was in need of some anger management, and the other was excessively passive-aggressive.

You also learned the way to put Oiwa's spirit to rest and solve the biggest threat of the Hundred Nights. (Now on Day 2)

"Return to her, her face, and Oiwa will be at peace."

EPISODE 9: BONE-BREAKER BREAKER 1 20!

You manage to catch a little shut-eye in the early hours of the day and are awakened around 11.

"We got visitors." Sato says as he taps you on the shoulder.

You yawn and get up. Debating if you need to jump into the chemical wash shower. At the very least you need to change jumpsuits.

"Is it Rini the Rabbit and her long necked friend?" You ask.

"Nope." Sato sighs. "People Against Ghost Abuse Nationally."

"Didn't Dr. Griffin warn us about them? The 'ghost rights' activists?" You say. "Also, why are they 'Nationally' when they're global now?"

Sato shrugs. "They wanted to keep the logo? I mean, would you sign up for PAGAG? And in regards to our non-human friends, they called and said they'd be here in an hour or two."

"Fair point." You say. You get up and see through the windows, that there is indeed a picket line. People chanting slogans, and waving signs that have pictures of Casper in jail, and a big 'No' symbol over the Ghostbuster symbol.

"The recursiveness of that is almost artistic." Sato says. He sighs. "Akira says we should get the fire hose."

> Good idea.
> Nah, ignore them and they'll get bored.
> Someone should go out and talk to them.

Talk to them or something.
>>
Is that legal in Japan? If not, call the cops.

The last thing we do is get ourselves involved in a shitstorm
>>
After the incident of last night, it seems to me our defensive strategy could be improved with two words: Slime Sprinkler

Consider Vigo the Carpathian, he used an encasing of slime powered by negative energy to create an impenetrable barrier to his headquarters in New York. It was so impenetrable, it took a huge swing by the giant Statue of Liberty brute force to break it down, and the good feels of New York during new years day to completely remove it.
A similar system may be devised by us. Via a system of pipes running all around the building, outside the walls, the roof. each night, we will coat our base in mood slime and play positive music, this in addition to our own strong courage, will create a strong barrier around our base against anything the ghosts could feasibly throw at us.
This music will come from our dear Yurei’s chyme connected to speakers (just in case a sneaky ghosts or someone tries to switch a music CD with something nasty). She, being a ghost, might know music just happens to move her the most (which may a real effect on the slime).

Luckily the floor need not be defended so heavily, as you all know the earth is a large conductor and so inhospitable to the negative energy of ghosts. Still, we could put a system under the basement to be on the safe side.

We’d have to be careful to set up a drainage system each morning to collect the slime. Each night it would add to the potent energy of the last, and we’d slowly have increasingly charged and potent slime. Wouldn’t want that stuff to seep into the sewers of Tokyo and lead to ghost proliferation depending on the mood of the city.

As we keep using the system with success, it will grow stronger as we believe in its ability.

At the end of 100 days, we’d have super potent slime ready to use for any purpose.

Tl;dr Slime barrier for the house and DJ Yurei

In light of this new event it would also make a good defense against thrown bricks at windows if these protesters get unruly

Check the legality of the protest.
See if them protesting and possibly disrupting the power feed to the containment grid falls under PCOC jurisdiction and we can have them removed.

Otherwise, take video of them and post on Youtube while making fun of them in the comments.

Do you think yurei could learn to talk through arranged snippets of recorded voices and lyrics on her Chyme like how bumblebee talks in the Transformers movies?
>>
>>29115046
I don't think the containment unit is dependant on the cities power grid, because that would be a serious Achilles heel if all it takes is a ghost to cut the power lines.

After all, we have plenty of stable nuclear isotopes and we're wearing nuclear reactors on our backs, so I'd imagine the grid to be self sustaining.

But yeah, we should tell the PCOC if the containment unit might be compromised
>>
>>29114922
That's a great idea. It'll take time to research, time to build, plenty resources, and money every step of the way. You don't have much of any of that. But it's possible.

>>29114879
>>29114957
The short version: The moment they step on private property, or break something, then it's illegal. Right now, they're just barely on the edge as it is.

The biggest thing going for them is that the police don't care about the Reject Zone. Thus they haven't shown up, yet.

"HEY! HEY! WHADDYA SAY? HOW MANY SOULS YOU TORTURE TODAY?"

"GULAG PRISON HOLOCAUST RAPE! GHOSTBUSTERS TORMENT SOULS AT DISCOUNT RATES!"

"HEY HEY HO HO! GHOSTBUSTERS HAVE GOT TO GO!"

"These people have FAR too much time on their hands." Akira mumbles as he's unlocking the fire hose box that's on the wall.

"I blame the internet." Sana says.

"I dunno...some of these slogans are kinda catchy." Star says. "And I think we may have enough money to get some air time. Maybe we should work one of these into our commercial!"

"There's a strict script in the handbook regarding advertisements." Sato says. "Can we call the cops yet?"

"Not yet." Sana says. "I'm watching...I can see Sachiko too. She's up on her fence. Bow ready."

"She's loving this isn't she?" Akira says.

Sana sighs. "She doesn't look unhappy. But she's fired a warning shot to keep them off of her property."

Star is on the phone. "P-COC still has me on hold...I think they're given direct orders to do this. I mean, how many other paranormal organizations are there?"

> Akira, get the hose ready.

Letting Yurei have a bit of fun sounds like a good idea, but im worried the PCOC might make us bust her or use their own tech.

How does PCOC let central get away with slimers shenanigans, a ghost mascot license or something?
>>
>>29115367

It would also increase people's belief in her and increase her power to boot

Yeah, let her have a laugh with the protesters till the pcoc arrive. If the protesters complain about ghosts, just say they're lying
>>
>>29115250
We could have Yurei just kind of... talk to them?

Like a normal person?

I wanna see how long it takes them to call her the spectral equivalent of an Uncle Tom.

Or we could just ignore her until the rabbit spirits show up.

Yurei is so far unable to speak. Possibly either her entity is too weak, she's very shy, or something else prevents her.

You grab the Chyme. "Yurei? You up for a little fun?"

You hear Akira grumble and mutter as he hooks up the fire hose.

She looks at you confused and then understanding comes over her face. She grins and nods. Then she looks confused and holds up both hands in a 'how?' gesture.

"Do a big entrance, and then do whatever you want to scatter them." You say.

She salutes and pops out of the Chyme in all her school-uniformed semi-translucent, no feet glory.

You admit, she's far from imposing.

"You'll do fine, hon." Star says.

She salutes and floats through the front wall.

You hear a lot of screams and the sounds of cellphones all going off at the same time at max volume.

The result...
>>
>>29115952
That seems way too excessive.

Is rather effective. You hear people shouting and running.

Yurei comes back in with a huge grin on her face.

Akira frowns at her and points at her Chyme. With a sigh the ghost girl goes back inside the gadget.

"And don't get any ideas!" He snaps.

"Sheesh, take it easy." Sato says. "Yurei's alright."

"Two magicians in America kept a tiger, they treated it like their child, and one day BAM it attacks them out of the blue." Akira says.

"Yurei isn't a tiger!"

"She isn't a human!"

"ENOUGH!" Star says, coming in with an armful of dropped cell-phones and wallets. "Sato, help me sort through these things. Akira, thank Yurei." She glares at him.

Akira rolls his eyes. "Thanks spook. You did good."

You see Yurei bow in gratitude on the screen.

"So, are we returning these?" Sato asks.

"Yeah. We'll mail them back to the people." Star says. She takes out the wad of yen that's inside. "What? Shipping's expensive!"

You smile, and before you can start the debate of how MUCH you're all going to leave, the door opens.

"Hi-hi Ghostbusters! Biba Jibun!" It's Rini. "Told you that they were good!"

"YOU are paying for my van!" Akira snaps, pointing at the damaged YOMI-1.

"Purely mercenary...you weren't kidding." A woman says, walking behind the ko-gal. She's one of the most strikingly beautiful women you've ever seen. She's dressed in a faux-fur lined coat, and designer boots. Rini's clothes and accessories all scream 'expensive' whereas this woman's whole being just says 'Beyond Wealthy.' The only thing that's out of place is that she has a very old, kind of ratty, faded peach-colored scarf around her neck.

"Ikki, the Ghostbusters of Japan. Ghostbusters, my dear friend, Ikki, one of the few Rokuro Kubi still around."

"Hmm, charmed." The woman says. "So, what exactly caused...that?" She gestures to the car.

"A ghost impersonating Isora." You say.

Both women's eyebrows go upwards. Rini lets out a whistle. "Told you these guys didn't mess around."

Ikki looks at Rini, and then sighs. "My dear friend is speaking out of turn." She adjusts her scarf. "I admit that you have the skill, but I am particularly fond of Lord Masakado's protection. I have NO intention of moving."

"But you said that the Old Headmaster was being grumpy and unreasonable." Rini says.

"I said that yes, but that's because I had been petitioning him for other services." Ikki sniffs. "He's fine granting me asylum, but slow to other favors." She looks at the five of you. "However, now that I see that there's competent mercenaries on the scene. I can look elsewhere for my needs."

"Well," You say. "We're of course interested in more work, but we've got some other business that we need to take care of first."

"More important than me?" Ikki asks. This is obviously a woman who is used to getting her way.

"It has to do with..." You cover half of her face. "Her."

Both women's eyes go wide.

"Have you ever heard of something called the 'Gentleman's Club?' We think they're involved with something." Star says.

Rini lets out a little chortle. "Do you know how many private groups call themselves 'Gentleman's Club?' It's a long list."

"Alright," Sato says. "We also spoke to..." He covers his face. "Her. She said there was a way to put her at rest. We were requested to return her face."

Ikki frowns. "That...already happened. Her brother Yasuo restored her honor when he exposed Lady Une and Iyemon's treachery in her murder."

"In one story, at least." Rini says. "Other than that..." She shrugs. "No idea."

"Still," Ikki says. "We'd be willing to look into it. As long as you scratch our backs, we'll scratch yours."

"Alright, alright." Sato says. "What's the job?"

"I need some friends of mine transported. They need to get to a temple." Ikki says.

"What's wrong with the temple across the street, or any other temple, anywhere in this city?" Akira asks.

"It doesn't have the right bell, and doesn't the miko hate you?" Rini says.

"So she shoots an occasional arrow at us time and again. No big deal." You say.

"She's written death threats on the arrows." Star says.

"It's just because she's stuck with a moocher...another reason we're trying to find these people." You say.

"Well, I need my friends to go to this temple, and it's NOT in the city and there's some further complications...but no rush. Still...I have friends, and connections, human and other...help me and I can get you your club, no problem."

"Well...they can't walk. That's one of them." She says. "Also...there's a...I suppose you could call him a possessive ex." She shrugs. "He's a nasty, cold-blooded, little salaryman type. I scared him off, but I'm worried about my friends."

"Who are your friends?" Sato asks.

"The best band of bric-a-brac in Tokyo." Ikki says. "Tsukumo-gami, I've known them since the early days. They're SUCH sweeties and they deserve better than to be stuck in old pieces of junk. With the help of the bell in this temple they can move on to better things."

"And the 'jealous ex' is?"

"The human who was under the mistaken impression that they belonged to him." Ikki sniffs. "Bastard kept them locked up in an old storage locker, to gather dust. I found it intolerable, especially after I found out that he had a biwa-bokuboku I was VERY fond of."

"So...you want us to move the contents of a storage locker?" Sato asks.

Akira has elected to stay at the Factory and work on YOMI-1 with Sana providing 'moral support.'

So you, Star, and Sato suit up, get your packs on, and head out towards the train.

It's probably the most comfortable ride on the train that you've ever had. Mostly because no one wants to stand near you, or so much as make eye contact with you.

"Why'd you think these guys use Ikiryo?" Sato asks.

"Maybe they don't think that's what they're doing. They could think that they're psychic or something." Star says.

"Does it matter?" You say. "We've got to stop them from doing...attacks on people. I'm more concerned on what we're going to do when we find them."

"Hose them down and call P-COC?" Sato suggests. "They'd at least believe us."

"Depending on who we get." Star says. "You see the mail? Yasuo is continuing to send us tickets for our jobs and the subsequent 'failures to follow protocol.' Apparently Sachiko's starting to get them too."

"How can you tell?" You ask.

"They're what she writes the death threats on."

"Ah." A pause. "We don't have to pay those, do we?"

"Short answer? Not now."

"Longer answer?" Star asks.

"We stall long enough, we won't have to pay them. Plus, we're Grandfathered past a lot of stuff." Sato says.

The train stops and you all get off and make your way down the street. It's actually kind of weird, but nice. People part from you like the red sea, however there's a bunch of people who give you high fives and show off their GB merch. (A shame you don't get a slice of that pie.)

Finally you arrive. The place has a FORECLOSED paper taped to it's door, and the windows are boarded up.

That may very well be a difference of semantics, because we know the power of belief and emotion.
>>
>>29120769
Well, you were able to talk to a guy, and Sato was able to 'coax' the back door to open without too much trouble.

Thankfully, the guy on the phone who owns the property is happy enough to allow you all inside, provided that once you're through he can put up 'ghost-free' as part of his listing and charge more. You tell him that you'll do so for a small fee and also give him to P-COC's people for the proper paperwork.

"Nice," Sato says, when you and Star join him. "At least we'll get some pay out of this."

You walk around the place. It's a pretty nice club. Full kitchen, dance floor, and private rooms. One even has an indoor zen garden. Still, you get a 'tourist' vibe from the place. Something that's trying too hard to be a fusion between a western nightclub with a Japanese flavor.

Expensively tacky. So much so that it wraps around 'tourist' and then goes back to 'acceptable.'

"You wanna split up and search the place, or just stay in one spot at a time?" Star asks.

"Whatever we do, we better do it quick. That train and walk took a while, we're getting close to sunset." Sato says.

"But the Lure Curse isn't still active, right?" You say.

"Right." Sato says. "But being alone in an abandoned building during the Hundred Nights might not be a good thing."

Nope.
Um.... let's try the private rooms. They wouldn't have been out in the open anyway. Also, PKE meters and goggles on. NOW.
>>
>>29121325
>Try out the private rooms.

Seems the most obvious place for something underhanded to be located, and splitting up might night be the best idea.
>>
>>29121365
Not that I'm advocating splitting up, but I'd be fine if Sato and Star buddied up and investigated another room.

Out of the team we have the best track record of performing alone even in a tight situation.
>>
>>29121325
No splitting up.
Private rooms might have something useful, but I wonder do they have security cameras here? If they do we can check the security area for any tapes we can look over.
>>

That's because we're a) PCs and b) demonstrably crazy.

>>
>>29121513
You all tromp upstairs and start checking out the private rooms.

"So, what caused this place to close?" Sato asks. "The economy?"

"Nah nah nah." Star says. "I heard that there was a totally gnarly giant gang fight, like two Red Poles from the Triads and their goons, took on an entire Yakuza family."

"Someone's been watching too many late night kung-fu movies." You say. "PKE showing anything?"

"Little higher than baseline. Some invisible mood slime, nothing out of the ordinary." Sato says.

"We should check the Black Slime output of the city. I mean go ward by ward and see if we have to be worried." Star says.

"This is Tokyo, of course we should be worried." Sato says.

"Hang on guys..." You say.

You've found a matchbook, the logo is from a motel chain, and two-thirds of the matches are gone...but this thing is spiking full blue on the PKE meter. It's also the save valence and frequency of the PKE signature that you got from the laptop.

"Two identical signals?" Sato says. "That means that...well I have no idea what it means, but it must mean that we've got a clue. I think."

"Could we...I dunno...trace the signature?" Star says.

"No, but we can jury rig up stuff to detect it." Sato says.

"Put something up in YOMI-1 and then drive around the city, and when it pings..." You start.

"We've got them!" Sato finishes.

"Not the greatest plan." Star says.

"Better than nothing, and don't forget, we can couple this with the laptop." Sato says. "The signature on this thing is much stronger." As he bags the matchbook.

"Why?"

"I dunno." Sato shrugs. "You think we're good, or do you wanna keep searching?"

"If we leave now, we'll be able to make it home before sunset, barely."

> You have 1 piece of Gentlemen's Evidence. If you want to stay and search another area, you'll receive at least 1 more clue, possibly more. That'll narrow the search more, and maybe give you a suspect or two. However, you WILL be in the club during Night 2, and that could cause difficulties.

I vote we go home to our fortress.

Pros: We won't be without backup
Home turf
Access to containment unit for when traps fill up
Cons: Investigation takes longer
We curtail EVERY investigation like this until the end of the Nights.

In theory we could just pick a small room, lock the doors, slime the shit out of it, hidden from all ghosts, and bunker down for the night.

I'd even say we could tell ghost stories, but that'd be spitting in the devils face.
>>
>>29122154
Seems like a viable option if it gets too late/dangerous to head home.
>>
I'm wondering if these matches aren't some sort of trap or beacon meant to warn them were onto them. Seems odd to enchant matches with the same frequency as the laptop.

If we do that slimed room idea, and the beacon goes quiet they'd know our position.
>>
>>29122099

It's not as fruitful as you'd like. You find a wrapper that's got the same PKE signature on it. It's for gum!

It's not as useless as you think it is. The markings on the label says that it's a nicotine gum. A prescription strength nicotine gum. you're not sure how that helps...but you TELL yourself that it helps, and THAT'S whats important!

Either way, you can get the PKE signal that much stronger. You bag it and tag it.

"Of course..."

A hissing noise fills the room and the lights snap on.

"HI HI! IT'S TIME FOR EVERYONE'S FAAAAAAAAAVORITE GAME SHOW! OIWA'S CASTLE!" A voice says.

The lights blast on and suddenly you're looking at a man with a noose around his neck, blank eyes, and black gunk coming out from his lips.

"HELLO OUT THERE! WHO IS READY FOR SOME DEAD-TIME FUN?" He shouts.

An invisible audience cheers and shouts.

"GREAT! AND HERE'S OUR FIRST CONTESTANTS! THE GHOSTBUSTERS: JAPAN BRANCH!"

More cheering.

Another flash of light and you're now being led up to the stage by smiling women in party dresses. They've all been drowned and their damp hair and puckered flesh is cold and clammy.

"THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS! TONIGHT AND TONIGHT ONLY, WE'LL SEE IF THE GHOSTBUSTERS HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SEE IF THEY CAN....

"DIE! FOR! DOLLARS!!!!!"

The audience cheers.

"Does this guy have ANY volume other than earsplitting?"

"FIRRRRRRST CON-TEST-TANT! COME FORWARD AND GET READY TO PLLAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!" The Host yells.

The Drowned Girls push you forward. The host jabs a microphone in your face.

"SO! DAISUKE? HOW DOES IT FEEL TO KNOW THAT YOUR MOTHER DENIED THAT YOU WERE HER SON WHEN QUESTIONED BY OTHER WOMEN IN HER APARTMENT BUILDING? DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUNG GIRLS ARE CRYING IN THEIR ROOMS RIGHT NOW, BEREFT OF ALL HOPE, BECAUSE OF WHAT YOUR ACTIONS STARTED?"

"I feel great!" You flash a big smile and a thumbs up to the cheering 'audience.' "Now what was that about dessert?"

There's a flash and suddenly you're inside a giant glass mason jar. There's a metal cap over your head and a black rubber tube punched through the lid.

"YOUR TASK IS TO FIND THE GOLD COIN WITH OIWA'S LOVELY FACE ON IT!" The host says. "TRY TO DO IT BEFORE YOU...DIE...FOR...DOLLARS!"

A white substance sprays out of the tube into the jar. It's...whipped cream. There's also a few coins mixed in it, silver ones with Oiwa's hideous face on it.

The crowd cheers and hoots. You see Sato and Star stuck in the grip of the Beautiful Drowned Women. The Hanged Host is clapping and cheering as well. Colored lights are going off all around, and the jar is slowly starting to fill...

You have really got to consider the status of your life when you get caught into scenarios like this...

If this whipped cream is a ghost manifested creation we might slime it away and then...somehow hope the real gold coin is different from the rest and sift with the meter?
But then the slime would denature the gold coin (assuming it has pke signature).

Or this is real whipped cream and we're extra fucked.
