The elevator panel on this floor only options you back down. It takes one glance to conclude this floor is very uninviting. It nearly yells "This is what your curiosity gets you, fool." Your options are much the same as they were before. A left and a right. To the left you can hear the dull echo of a metal shuttering. A door closing, or something falling to the ground. To your right there's no sound at all, but a blind left-turning corner you can see from here. Your little friend teeters back and forth, with idle boundless energy. He seems to have no particular preference. ...Which you find strange, since he was the one who wanted to come up here. Did he even know where he was going...?

You can't rationalize why.You want to take your friend along for your fast jaunts, but you don't have many good seating options. You consider putting him on your head, and test it out, but straight away you two realize how jarring that would be. Before you come up with an alternative, he shimmys down your scarf and slips into one of your empty pockets. The backmost one.You are now aware your pockets work like that. Now you're cooking with gas! You stride down the left way, as fast as you feel is safe. As you do though, something follows from the direction you just jetted from. What appears to be a 2-dimensional eyeball travels down the grey line that stripes the wallpaper on both sides. It has no trouble keeping up with you. And stares a bit. By the time you turn your head to stare back, it vanishes.

>>29068987It's unnerving to know you're being watched, but you have other things to consider. For one, you don't want to spook your little friend. You're HIS pillar of strength, and that means panic is a luxury you can't afford. You somehow doubt you'd learn anything from stopping that you wouldn't learn by proceeding.Although soon enough, you screech to a halt and feast your eyes on something far more eyecatching. >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW6ZRsC0L0wA thick vault door so huge and menacing, you expect it to exhale any second and blow you away. There is no handle. Only a keyhole, a subtitle, a name and a demand:BIOMORPH NOLDO NOT OPEN It doesn't mince words. It doesn't even mince lowercase letters.
>>29082650Don't open it. Instead, hug Little Guy. Also, I vote that we refer to him as Little Guy from now on.
>>29082650If we can read, maybe we can speak. Ask if our buddy can understand us now.
>>29082738Bear in mind you were able to read VICTORIA before you first attempted to speak.
>>29082650Try to open it using your scarf hand.
>>29082650Well, while we probably do not know what words "biomorph" and "nol" mean, there's likely a very good reason why somebody does not want that door opened. And if we do understand the words, we should be able to deduce that there's an entity behind the door that somebody judged dangerous enough to warn about. Both trains of thought lead to same deduction: let's not open.
>>29082650Let's go back and find Victoria. Honestly, if we could befriend her, maybe she could help us with this. Personally I'm curious.
>>29082650Even if we wanted to open it we probably couldn't. Our key is for door three, not four.
knock on the door and make a noise.
>>29083377Seconded.
wait.. guys... what if the key was for OUR cell? there is a roman 3 on the back of our head III. and we just have intense amnesia.
>>29083377>>29083400Thirded.
>>29083427>there is a roman 3 on the back of our headSince this is an artstyle issue I'll go ahead and say it. The three lines on the back of the head are just a simple grill like the back of any computer. There's a fan directly beneath it. Not saying your theory can't be right. Just that this part of the design isn't significant to our history.
>>29083427It seems pretty obvious. I wonder how many others there are?I wonder if Little Guy is one too?
>>29083525awww
>>29082650Man, if they made a proper sequel to Metroid Fusion that'd get me to buy a 3DS.
>>29083377>>29083400>>29083523It says not to open, but absolutely nothing about knocking. You try that with a balled up scarf-fist, but that proves unacoustic. Cloth seems to just... fold against hard surfaces. Huh.You then spike it with your knee, and there's a loud ***GONG*** for 10 full agonizing seconds. If you were capable of making stupid faces in panic, now would've been the time. You hope no big beasties were within earshot of that.Once the sound fades, you hear something. Almost like a mountain of grain trickling down into a new position. Soft crunchings of a dune breaking apart and laying down. Perhaps all the result of your harebrained greeting. You can't see anything past the keyhole's thick web of gears, except for tiny splinters of light, hinting how much brighter it must be inside the room than out.
With some people mentioning the key, see if the number 3 room is further down the hall. Or maybe number 5. That'd tell us which way to go.
>>29085393Open itI regret nothing
>>29085393That's fucking terrifying, lets find Littlebot and leg it.

The one arm grips a long-bladed jambiya knife. He'd look quite dapper, if not for the doo-rag reading "Xi 79" across the scalp. "You're familiar. I *knew* you, didn't I?" Says the phantom. --Whoa, you understood him. Is he speaking in your native channel? Or is the translation program online now? Your moment pondering was time spent not responding. He's not amused by your vacancy. "Get away from that door. Right this second."You try to respond. With "Um" or "Er" to start with, but it only comes out as more static. Yeah. >>29105847Thread doesnt die until it reaches page ten after the bump limit anyway. We got like 200 replies lfet in this one and the board is slow. Wouldn't be that hard to keep this floating for a day or so.
>>29105847Hey, I've been lurking for a while on this thread and the last thread and I haven't really posted any comments because I was just enjoying this so much by simply watching/reading. Any who, for the whole talking thing, I think it would be okay for the other characters to talk but have us sorta be silent. Not as in we don't communicate but how about we have like a wireless hotspot texting program or something that allows us to more or less send messages telepathically to other machines, while not writting out what the messages say. And the thing is we wouldn't be able to speak to organic beings and creatures giving possible future interactions with said beings sorta tricky say if we, I dunno, got captured and separated. Anyway, this is just a suggestion and I'm really enjoying this quest.
>>29105960The sad/mystifying thing about being a storyteller is that there's often a few amazing fans enjoying your work beyond the curtain, who are likely to never ever speak up, even though the author would greatly benefit from their unique outer-insight. The exceptions are HARD TO COME BY and I thank you for it. I like everything about this suggestion. I was considering something like it and you just filled in the rest of the blanks.I'm going to delete my previous posts shortly and revise them. But no one can know about this faux pas of mine, you hear me?-It's a secret-.
>>29106116Bump limit is 350 posts and we're at 114. This thread should last, OP.
You inspect the number at the top of the door. The roman 4, as opposed to your roman 3. Well, maybe there are 4 doors total on this floor and you just found the final one. Perhaps further along there might be-- Your little friend pokes at your backside. He sees something. You turn, and feel mere inches off the floor with what you findl.
Two figures. One no-nonsense, phantom-like being hovers in place, wafting apart vaporously at the lower torso. He stares straight through you, and you stare back at your nervous self in the reflection of his visor. He's escorted by a tall robot you'd describe as an anorexic triplegic metal ant, standing at attention much like a butler does to avoid catching one's arms on passerbys/furniture. The one arm grips a long-bladed jambiya knife. He'd look quite dapper, if not for the doo-rag reading "Xi 79" across the scalp. Sharp gurglings of code are megaphoned in your general direction. Much in the same vein as when you first ran across your little friend a floor below, but now you can divine more of their meaning. They don't read in your program like the written word does. They're a weave of emotional projectiles. You feel several things from this phantom. He's dubious and apprehensive, but he's also guardedly nostalgic about you specifically. But first, he wants your reason for being here. And you hope this query is as specifically low scale as "Why are you here at this door?" because you couldn't hope to answer anything bigger than that. You don't sense any hostility. At least not from him. You sense a curious LACK of language from the escort character, and that bothers you more than if he were frankly bloodthirsty. All this time you spent discovering and pondering, was time spent not supplying him back. He's impatient with your vacancy. You try to respond. But your program's reboot thus far has only left you with the ability to receive and not reply. Your emotional feedback has such a shredded translation, it's only a slightly less useless than the static from before. Yeah. Of course you're not able to respond verbally. WHY WOULD IT be that easy?
>>29106341Okay I'm starting to like this A LOT better, even if it is a lot more tl;dr.Also.WHY CAN'T I DELETE THE PREVIOUS POSTS?!
>>29106373On a different network, maybe?Either way, let's back away from the door and draw our bolas. No threatening moves, but the kindly tripalegic is armed and we should be too. Then maybe let's calm down and try to express ourselves coherently?
Thinking your response for a childish distraction, he then bluntly repeats some of his previous code, with more volume. He wants very much to illustrate that large distances between you and that door are a wonderful thing, because the alternative leads to a dark hallway with scrap metal and broken circuits that didn't know how to follow instructions. You find he's quite talented with foreshadowing imagery. But suddenly his intense eloquence flatlines. You can only sense a very hushed but jarred sense of surprise. Something very RAW is about to leap out of him, but you can't truly recognize which. His crony has no stake in any of these emotional beats, though.
>>29105960Now that is a good fucking anon, right there.
This new "talking" is really great. Are we meant to put in input here?
>>29106558Ah sorry. I've already planned what happens next. You turn to face what you see peripherally and then--KRRFGGHKK!!YEOWWW.Your first instinct was to wrangle the presence with your scarf, but this devil is FAST. Soon as his slash sailed into your headcasing, he leapt back from countering range. There's more to his knife than meets the eye. A series of bell tollings strike through your program's every waking thought. Like he poisoned you with SOUND. It's slow to fade away, and you feel weak as a kitten in the process.Your scarf also caught some of the brunt, but it was simply brushed back, not cleaved through.NOW what?

>>29124620Run away. Get some distance from the door AND phantom guy. We can try talking afterwards.I'm really liking this art style and theme. I just don't know why I like this, Journey, and Hyper Light Drifter so much. Maybe it's the scarf/poncho? There needs to be more of those in life.I'm 100% behind the no-talking btw. You can have actual speech later, where it will have significantly more impact. Aside from that, you might want a pastebin or image for Qrane's inventory. It just keeps things nice and tidy in the long run. You don't need to put health or status or anything like that, just what we have and maybe what we know about those things.
I'm not all the way to the bottom yet but I feel like your quest doesn't need that much dialogue. The silence and mystery make this interesting.

Qrane is a courier, isn't it? Has this been established or guessed at?It just seems like with these strong swift legs and lightweight body travel is very easy. Those pockets that make everything like flat lightweight paper also show that Qrane definitely had a purpose or job before needing a sentience reboot. Like how Victoria has the armor to effectively be a guarding sentinel and the bulk to cover the entire hallway with the cleaning sub-routine in a single pass while on patrol. That's just my analysis though. Qrane is a swift, clever courier that can hold it's own against gekos. Wait a tick... was Qrane shot in the head?I got spurs that jingle, jangle jingle

At this rate the thread's gonna be alive for the actual update. lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW6r16O88IMThis fight is a complete mismatch, and for some reason, the 'murder you' plan that came out of the sky, is here to stay. The lizard was one thing, but these guys have you scared. You have to bail.Noting the knife's effect on metal versus your scarfy appendage, you decide to make that your advantage, wrapping your scarf around your headpiece for safekeeping. You CAN see through it enough to dart off.Your little friend has ducked fully into your backpocket, and closed the lip.Cont.
The phantom keeps tabs on you as you scurry down the hallway, into the unknown. You don't really have to look at him to feel his glare.Oh and also: BWOMB.Cont.
And VOILA. Right in your way is another cube, with the slasher hanging within. In this moment of exciting fury, time slows to a crawl in thought only. You learn something: While the BWOMB exit sound is extremely loud, there is a subsequent BWOMB of re-entry that you can hear only due to the greater distance of this warp. The jump only aids sidewinding attacks at point blank range. There has to be a set of warping noises regardless, as that is the nature of teleportation (you're finding out), but one of them, by design, can be made to drown out the other.Should this duel with the phantom come down to the wire, keeping your distance will be your first and perhaps only advantage. Cont.
Time unfurls after your discovery, and your foe still has a faster swing than you're able to swirve away from. He's driving at your head again, but whatever that knife is made of is not designed to tear through... whatever your scarf is made of! It still hurts when it wings you. It couldn't not. But this, you can power through for your counter attack.Cont.
When his feet touch the floor, you're right on top of the situation by being below it.What your combat program urges you to do, directly getting grazed, is drop and sweep, taking your assailant spiraling off his feet for a quick date with the floor. And then that's what happens.Cont.
--Or not. Before you can even come full circle to admire your handiwork, he's been whisked away. Really? You had secretly hoped that the cooldown time between warps was a little longer than THAT. For crying out loud, this ability is completely and utterly broken. Cont. --The buffer just ran out. It shouldn't be too long before the next, though. There was a window where I wasn't working on it all, to un-burnout. I'm trying to push my sliding sleep schedule to somewhere normal, so we'll see.
>>29191768>*directly after getting grazedDammit.

This thread is 6 days oldHappy New Year, Anons
>>29191824We need to be very careful with this guy now, as he has seen us use the scarf as defense. The next attack won't be aimed at a place we're protecting with it, or if it is, the attack will likely be meant to crush instead of cutting. Also, take the knife. The less weapons our opponent has, the better.
I have a theory: Slasher isn't the one teleporting. Phantom is doing the teleporting for him. This is little more than an educated guess, true, but so far we haven't seen Phantom do anything other than follow us with his gaze. What if these two are coordinating, with Phantom acting as support?
>>29193528Chuck knife at phantom!
>>29193528Well yes. The visor flashes every time the phantom does the teleport trick. Which isn't too helpful, it merely means we need to be outside his LOS if we don't want to have crap 'ported right on our noses. And that's assuming he actually needs a LOS to destination point.
>>29193603He will just teleport the knife away, to a place his pal can easily retrieve it from.
>>29193528I figured that much was relatively obvious.
>>29193666Maybe. But maybe he can only teleport his partner, or needs a chargen period to get used to whatever he has to teleport. And maybe we'll just get really unlucky and it's already used to the knife.
>>29195587Well, I would assume, based on the visual feedback of his ability, that he can teleport whatever he pleases, as long as it fits within that cubical zone. If there's a weakness, it probably is recharge time. Also, seeing that he hasn't used it offensively on us - say, to teleport our head away from our body - it can be theorized that the teleport is an all-or-nothing affair. At our full height, we're probably bit too tall to fit into that teleportation zone.

>>29192962I SAID NO KNIVES OKAY?!GODOh hi, I'm awake.
>>29203887What if we just stick it one of our hammerspace pockets and don't use it? Can't let that teleporting jackass keep it at the very least.
>>29203887>I SAID NO KNIVES OKAY?!THEN DON'T GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO GRAB ONE!
>>29204583YOU SHOULD JUST -KNOW BETTER-Fine you can have the knife later. I swear, I spoil you
Are you black Qrane?
>>29205002Wh--Okay, what prompts this? I'm not saying I won't answer. I just have to know why you ask.
>>29207257Not the same Anon, but I liked to think you were black because the things you were saying are a lot funnier in my head if you are.
>>29207291>the things you were saying are a lot funnier in my head if you are.Oh. Such as?
>>29207312Starting from where you told me grabbing the knife was a bad idea, and then down. It's probably just me, so I wouldn't think too much into it if I was you.
>>29207378Well I'm not black. But wouldn't it also be amusing if I were a jolly irishman?
>>29207382I'm having trouble getting an Irish accent in my head, so I couldn't tell you.
I wonder what qind of robot Qrane is.Qonsidering his aptitude at fighting, could he be a Qombat robot?
>>29208459Perhaps even a Qurier? Or maybe he's a Qovert Ops?>captcha sez: Quare yeroriObviously, he's a Quare model.
You hear something smack to the floor behind you. The jump can't amend his tripping position, and that makes for a clumsy if not amusing fall. Which you didn't see.Cont.
It was obvious before but more obvious now that the one doing the warping was the phantom, moving the slasher like a chesspiece. You can't outfight an ability like this. Not on their terms. The only way this ends in your favor is to go after the chessmaster. As quick as it comes to mind, you have bolas in hand-scarf. And with olympic grace you've slung them!Cont.
The distorted light in post-warp prevented the phantom from seeing what was coming. The bolas entwine him three times round, and he's smacked in the shades with one of the metal spheres as they flail. You may not have meant to do it, but there goes his poker face. Whatever that did, was bad news for him. Thus, great news for you!Cont.
Again, buffer ran out. More updates l8r
