Alright folks. Thanks for being patient with me after the QM curse struck down my hard drive. We continue where we left off.

###########

You are the captain of the Freeman’s Abbey, a sixth-rate Frigate that had been captured from the Royal Navy, previously known as the HMS Roebuck. A 40 gun, single-decked Frigate built for speed and manoeuvrability; everything a pirate could ask for. With the promise of wealth and a life of freedom you have banded an admirable number of crew under your banner; all of them eager for adventure and loyal to the cause. Well, as loyal as pirates can be!

------

Key points of last thread:
-We traded our stolen goods in Kingston
-Acquired tools and supplies for our builders in Green Turtle Key
-Saw a Spanish Galleon in the English port
-Helped out a marooned and hung-up Sloop
-Met the precocious Captain Alesa Bonnet of her blockade running Sloop

------

Story begins next post.
>>
You mull over the choice longingly, gentling testing the items with your hands as you examine them. She does not grow impatient with you as you take your time, making the decision. You pick up the locket, running a finger across the smooth surface and testing the very fine chain, but gently rest it back in its place. You stand up, brushing the dirt from the knee you were kneeling on and exclaim “I’ll take the efforts trouble in gold. Fair deal?”

She smiles and extends her hand, and as you are about to shake it she raises it to her temple, tapping it slowly and exclaims “Though…”

You stare at her flatly, not impressed with her mocking gesture.

“Oh fine, no need to get pouty on me.” She extends her hand and grasps your firmly, giving you a hearty shake.

You emerge from the cabin with a small box of gold ingots, stamped and proofed from Spain. You round the gallery steps and almost hear an audible sigh from your ship. Once across the gangway, your first-mate walks up to you and says “Lord in Heaven Cap’n, we thought you was a gonner! Me and the lads were about to jump ship and come rescue ye!”

There was a bit of a laugh from those who heard the remark and as you handed off the box to be delivered into your cabin you give your first-mate a hearty slap on the back in thanks. “Alright fellas, tie off a line from the gallery to that Sloops main arm, we’ll get her loose afore the day is done!”

With some minor wetwork and knot tying, the lines are secured and with a quick jolt, you tow the Sloop off the rocks with a scraping rasp. With the Sloop now free, Captain Bonnet brings her around to your starboard side.

“Much thanks to ye Captain Abbot. Mayhaps we’ll see each other again!” She yells.

“Well, if ye fancy a safe haven, follow me!” You retort.

She looks at her First-mate, who shrugs.

“Aye.” She responds.

Shit. I just noticed. I'm sorry.

-----------

The voyage back to Green Turtle Key was smooth; almost unnaturally smooth compared to what you had experienced before. The wind was at your back as you cruised between the small rocky islands that dotted the greater Abaco isle as Green Turtle Key came into view.

“Home sweet home, eh Cap’n?” A passing crew member spouted while carrying boxes from the gallery.

You liked the sound of that. Home. You hadn’t had a home since you lived in England really, but this was better than just a home.

You were broken out of your daydream as your men begin furling the mainsails and your first-mate takes over the wheel to bring her into docking position. You spy the Sloop following sleekly behind, mirroring the Abbey’s movements so she can come to dock as well. It’s a fine looking ship, the profile alone marks her a fast vessel; It reminds you very much of her Captain.

With the docking complete, the longboats are dropped and were rowed ashore; the crews begin to mingle together as a familiar voice rings out from the home crowd.

“Alright you drunken idiots, where is my man, where is James?”

You steele yourself and call out to Mary in the crowd, raising your arm to grab her attention. You can see a literal parting in the sea of men as a fiery red bob of hair comes quickly towards you. You remember the past times and how she wasn’t exactly mad at you, so you open your arms for her. You put on a big smile as she approaches, and you keep the big smile on after you receive the brisk slap across your face.

“I’m happy to see you too my dear Mary.” You respond.

By then, a large crowd had gathered of the Sloop’s crew, as your own crew is all too used to the spectacle to really care anymore, just another day for them.

“James Roger Abbot, I swear on ‘me life. If you keep puttin’ me through your leavin’ and never say’n farewell I’ll free ye of your legs with a rusty spoon and belt you to ‘me kitchen chair!” She shouts.

(Going with the first reply since it’s going slow)

“Mary, can we take this inside? If’n ye hadn’t noticed, we have company on our little island.” You quietly say, grabbing Mary by the shoulders and spinner her around, giving her a little push to scoot her towards her home.

As you walk towards her house, hands on her shoulders, making the best apologetic faces you can, she rambles on about the many horrible things she will do to you if you ever do that again (Like every time) and how she was so lonely and sad that you were gone, and on and on and on.

Once inside, You sit down in the kitchen, cross a boot over your knee and prepare yourself.

“James, you cannae be doin’ this to me. It tears me poor heart every time I see ye sail away, giving naught a goodbye nor I my blessin’ your voyage. Ye make me scared for ye James.” She whispers, leaning against the wash basin.

You feel guilty, but you have pride swell up in your chest as you stand up and embrace her tightly.

“I’ll never let you go Mary, you know that. Sometimes, I do what I do because I’m not thinking, I was never too good in my schooling you know… T’was why I became a sailor.” You slyly retort, eliciting a little jab from Mary as you continue to hug her.

You see her smile, wiping a small tear from the corner of her eye and you know you are safe, at least until you leave again. You exit the small home and make way to the tavern, Mary saying she needed to finish something inside for the time being.

All three. To celebrate two succesful voyages in a row crack one of the rum kegs or two. Invite Bonnet's crew too.
>>
You decide to join in with the mingling crews of the two ships. You pass the walkway down to the pier, and seeing two ships instead of one stirs an interesting feeling within you, you can’t quite put your finger on it.

As you make your way to the open air tavern, you spy the crews have sufficiently mingled together into one big mass. Men were joking and laughing with one another, mugs of the tavern grog in their hands. Everyone was cheery as the moon began its ascent into the sky. Seeing as how you had not sold all the casks of Rum in Kingston, you decide to treat your men for all the hard work they have accomplished.

“Put down that grog, me drunks! ‘Tis about time ye got a reward fer your hard work upon the Abbey. Rum’s on me, fellas!” You should, standing on a small table.

The thunderous cheer echoes out into the lagoon, and possibly the ocean as the men begin rolling the barrels to the tavern keepers bar, knocking spigots into the soft wood and passing around mugs of the fine rum. It’s a heartwarming moment, to see all these men who have been loyal to you for years reaping the benefits they deserve. However, you see a small crowd forming on the other side of the tavern; Bonnet and her men are eyeing the rum enviously, and before you leap down from the table you yell across the small space. “Alesa, a’course you and your men are invited to join us! Wouldn’t be quite fair ‘te not share with ye!”

The Sloop’s crew gives you a hearty cheer and is welcomed to the casks by your crew. You look longingly at the mass of happy sailors as a hand touches your shoulder.

“That was awful nice of ye, Captain Abbot.” The slinky female voice says.

You turn to see Alesa Bonnet standing beside you, her hand that was on her shoulder slowly creeping to the other side of your neck.

Alesa wraps her hand around the back of your neck, rounding in front of you. She smiles a devilish smile, but you gently grab her arm and put your other hand on her shoulder and shake your head. She raises and eyebrow and withdraws her hands, using her free hand to brush some of the auburn hair from her face behind her ear, a slight flush colour filling her well-tanned cheeks.

For a moment, there is an awkward silence, but you quickly fill it with an apology, and an invitation to have some rum, which she accepts with a smile. You sit together with your First-mate, and hers, the four of you sharing stories and getting to know each other better when you get a nudge from your first mate, a quick and subtle point of the finger turns your eyes to Mary, who has clearly put her best on for the night. She is striding in a sleek vest and demure shirt, accompanied by a traditional small skirt covering her leggings. Her usual dockman’s boots have not been replaced, as you are unsure if she even owns a different pair of shoes. Her hair has been wrangled and pulled into an elegant braid that trails down over her left shoulder, her bangs pulled behind her ears. She spots you through the crowd and walks over, only for her face to contort slightly when she sees your company.

Alesa spots Mary while drinking, and a devious smile cracks as she pulls the mug to her face, her eye glinting and darting towards Mary as she approaches.

You stand up quickly, sticking out a hand for Mary as she closes the distance, not once taking her gaze off of Alesa as you give her your seat and steal a chair from another table quickly.

“Oh, you look beautiful Mary…” you begin, but she makes no attempt to respond or even recognize the compliment. You quickly begin the introduction. “My dearest Mary, this is Captain Alesa Bonnet. She is the fellow rogue we rescued from the rocks on our return voyage.”

Mary sharpens her eyes at the casually and smugly drinking Bonnet, putting her hand on top of your aggressively. Bonnet lets a small, single noted laugh escape the side of her cup, leaning back in her chair.

“Miss Bonnet, this is Mary-“ you begin.

“And I’m his Woman.” She finishes.

Alesa tips back forwards in her chair, putting the mug on the rough wooden table. “Oh, is that now? Well, ye make a cute pair, more adorable than’ a pair o’ robins on a spring morn” Alesa comments.

“Well, good! Now you two know each other. I hope you can become friends.” You add dumbly, clasping your hands together. “Now, I’ll get you some Rum, eh Mary?”

The two first-mates see the storm brewing and politely excuse themselves, so all that is left at the table is Mary and Alesa. You get a cup of rum and see the two staring at each other, glares practically visible between the two.

You sidle up with the crowd, moving close enough to hear, but not to make yourself known to the pair- not that they would see anyone but each other with the staring contest they have between each other.

“I’ll nae have a floozy harlet trying ‘ta steal my man, ya filthy sea whore. You stay awae from James, you hear me, woman?” Mary says, punctuating her statement with a finger jab in Alesa’s direction.

“Oh, I’M the floozy eh? I’m not the resident tavern girlie for all the men to lose their eyeballs ‘round.” Alesa retorts.

Mary’s already flaming temper kindles into a neigh inferno as she is trying to hold herself back.

“Plus, with yer luxurious ginger lockes that bound from atop yer head, I’m sure ye have got the Irishman’s curse of the drink and temper, hmm?” Alesa piles on to her already running list of insults.

Mary is too angry to respond as Alesa continues her casual barrage of insults and vulgar, slowly steaming, verging on her breaking point. You figure it’s time to step in before things get bloody, and you approach from Mary’s side with the mug of Rum.

“Hello ladies; Mary, I got ye some Rum, ‘tis good Rum. All the way from Antigua…” You begin, making idle conversation that neither woman is paying attention to.

Alesa takes a sip from her mug, the word “Whore” creeping out of the corner of her mouth, slightly echoed through the mug.

You hear it, and you know it’s too late as Mary is jumping over the table, her chair kicked back and flying backwards she steamed through the air towards Alesa.

You sit, sipping on Mary’s rum you got her as the two roll atop each other for a moment before standing up an arm’s length apart. They begin scrapping and kicking. Hair pulling and scratching at each other as the respective crews gather on either side, cheering their chosen fighter on. Alesa, who is more slight than Mary is nimble and quick on her feet, as opposed to Mary who stands up straight, taking the fight from a stationary position. Alesa lands a knee to the ribs of Mary, who recoils but quickly grabs the leg and flips Alesa over, bringing the fight to the ground.

Cheers and groans erupt as Mary seems to gain the other hand, straddling the dizzied Alesa with a leg on either side of her waist. She winds up for a big punch, landing it right on her jaw. She continues the assault, battering Alesa’s face about the planking below as you begin to push your way through the roiling crowd. As you push through the final ring into the fighting circle, you find both women battered, bruised, bloody and their clothes suffering. When Mary takes a moment to gaze up at you, Alesa punches her hard on the underside of the jaw, causing her to stumble over.

Alesa pulls a small knife and jumps towards Mary, a bloody red haze filling her eyes. You raise your matchlock in the air and fire. The bassy thump fills the cove and the plume of white smoke drifts slowly over the crew. Both parties have stopped, Alesa on top of Mary, knife in hand as they two struggled for control of it. You holster the pistol and put a hand on Alesa’s shoulder firmly. She hesitates, but slowly gets off of Mary, sheathing the small knife.

“I’m disappointed in the both of you. Mary, go home. Alesa, we need to have a talk.” An authoritative sternness in your voice.

You turn from the pair, when you see Alesa spit in the direction of Mary, who in turn pivots on her foot, landing the haymaker on Alesa’s chin, knocking her unconscious instantly before she even fit the ground. Her crew erupts in anger as your own crew retaliates to protect Mary. Before you know it, it’s a full blown tavern brawl, with punches and throws everywhere. You manage to pick up the unconscious form of Alesa and sling her over your shoulder to carry her to safety.

You decide to bring her to Mary’s, since she will be alone and it a controlled environment. You sneak past the brawl and head towards Mary’s at the end of town. You find the door slightly agar, and a hissing Mary who is trying to clean up her wounds. She turns to you, scratched and bruised face oddly calm for what just transpired. You slump Alesa off your shoulder and on top of Mary’s kitchen table after clearing it of object. Mary does not seem mad at the fact you just brought the women she assaulted to her home.

“Just a moment, I’ll get something to wake her.” She says quietly, putting down the bloody rag she was using to clean herself with.

In this brief moment, you get to actually look at Captain Bonnet without fear of prying eyes. She is of average height; her dark auburn hair is shoulder length and full looking. Her face is soft, looking past all the bruises and the large contusion on her chin where Mary hooked her. She has a lithe and slim build, with only a hint of feminine curve to her, but you wouldn’t say she wasn’t attractive. Mary returned from her room with a small piece of metal with a pungent smelling substance upon it.

“Hold her head up for me, please James.” Mary says.

You oblige, holding Alesa’s head forwards as she inhaled the pungent smell through her nose, causing her eyelids to flutter for a moment before she slowly opened them. You were still holding her head as she came to, with Mary’s face overtop of her. She panics, rolling off the table and clinging to you in defense.

You calm her down and set her on her feet, explaining that Mary helped you come out of unconsciousness. Mary wishes to speak with Alesa alone, and you turn your back while the two women enter the Mary’s room, where Mary stands in the doorway to block the sound. You turn to see the silhouette of Mary, her wide curves and strong outlines draws a smile to your face. She turns to catch you staring at her, her gentle features smiling back before turning to continue her conversation.

You decide it’s best to leave the two women to their talk and deal with the brawl that you left a short ways away. You get busy loading your matchlock pistol on the move again and you progress slowly due to the finicky nature of powder pistols. But, as you round the corner to the tavern, you see all the men either unconscious or sitting together, drinking heartily.

“Well. I suppose some things settle themselves.” You say to yourself as you begin checking the unconscious forms that lay on the ground, tables and chairs strewn about the tavern. There seems to be an equal amount of ‘causalities’ on both sides, so you assume that they both just declared it a draw and went back to drinking. They didn’t seem to harbor any hard feelings as they were all intermingled, having a good time once again. You sit and talk with the crews for a while, getting a lot of drunken information from Bonnet’s crew as the moon began to dip towards the sea as the sun made its way from below the depths. At this point, nearly every man in that tavern is passed out asleep, and you decide it’s time to pack it in for the night.

“What a crazy night…” you sigh to yourself, rolling your stiff shoulders as you hobble towards the edge of the tavern.

You decide to check in on the two women before calling it a night. You slowly make your way from the tavern back to May’s home and upon entering the door, you find all the lights inside are out. You creep across the kitchen towards her room to find two shapes beneath the sheets of the bed, either one on the very edge of their respective side, creating a wide gap between the two. You stifle a small laugh as you exit the home and proceed to yours, thinking about the two women.

Alesa had been taken aback when you denied her advances, so maybe she is used to getting what she wants from a man? Conversely, you didn’t know Mary was as tough as a coffin nail in a fist fight. You always knew she is a tough biscuit, but her iron jaw matched her iron temper. You indulge yourself gleefully for a moment in the fact you have two attractive women fighting over you. You crack a mischievous smile as you open your front door and promptly flop onto your bed. Before you fall asleep your plans for the coming morning flash through your head.

As you fall asleep you decide that the builders should get their dues, as you had sailed far to get them. You don’t bother removing your clothes as you lie face down on the bed, quickly passing out as the weight of your body is taken off your legs.

The morning comes soon, too soon. You crack open your sleep filled eyes and rub them instinctively. The sun is already sitting high in the sky, as you estimate it nears noon. You remove your jacket and jerkin, preferring your buttoned shirt for staying on the island. You scrounge some biscuits and cheese from your tiny stores, and eat a brunch on the way to your boat. Upon getting there, you find your crew already in the process of unloading the tools and supplies. You thank them profusely, and you see everyone has the same ‘wink-wink, nudge-nudge’ look about them when they speak to you. You are quite confused. Either way, you help with the delivery to the builders, who had finished their simple abode beforehand.

They are pleased with their new inventory, and quickly mill about, testing everything. The Foreman approaches you and shakes your hand.

“Much appreciated Captain. Now, the question is, where do you want us to start?”

You mull over the options in your head, but a store house seems to be the most logical option.

“I’m thinking the Store house would benefit everyone here.” You reply to the Foreman.

“Hmm, good plan Captain. Me and the lads will get on drawing plans for that right away.” The foreman responds, a final handshake sealing the deal.

You exit the small grove and proceed towards Mary’s house, deciding to check on the women before doing any more business. However, you find her house empty, and shrug to yourself. Upon heading to the tavern, you notice a group you have not seen before, and a small Schooner sitting in the harbour. These fellows are a raggedy bunch, even more so than your lads. They all wear long blackish coats and tricorns atop their heads. “A grim looking bunch…” You think to yourself.

You stop a passerby and ask them about the group, but they just shrug, not knowing anything about them besides they came in the middle of the night. Visitors are not common in Green Turtle Key, so any outsider is treated warily.

You go to the tavern, find a group of your men with your First-mate, and sit down. You eye the other group and they eye you. Unsure of their intentions you turn to your first mate.

>Approach the group
Let's ask them directly. We don't have to believe them.
>>
You nod to your first mate and your small group of men as you all stand up and walk across to the group of strangers.

“ey, you best be ‘avin a good reason te block me sunlight.” One replies as you stand behind him.

“I believe I do, until you tell me who you and your lot are.” You respond.

The man turns his sea-battered face towards you, a scraggly beard sitting on his chin. He looks at you up and down, before asking “Now laddie, by chance you’d be the Cap’n ‘o one ‘o those vessels out yonder?”

“Aye, the name’s James Abbot, Captain of the Freeman’s Abbey.” You reply.

“Izzat so?” He muses. “Well, if that’s bein’ true, then I got’s a message for ye.” The grizzled man exclaims.

He stands up, pulling a satchel bag to his hip. A small envelope bearing a skull faced coin stamped on the front is handed to you. You nod at the would-be messenger and thank him.

“Now, if’n we could only find the ‘oer Cap’n that’s s’posed te be ‘round ‘ere…” The messenger says, scratching is beard hairs.

>Help them find Captain Bonnet
>Deny that Bonnet is here
>Say she is here, but cannot find her either

“I can’t seem to be finder her me’self.” You reply. “I need to talk to her as well.”

“Hmm. Well then, I’s trust ye withis’ then.” The messenger adds, handing you another envelope, but this one bearing two skull coins.

“I trust ye not te open ‘er message Cap’n.” He finishes, wagging a finger at you.

“I promise on me filthy hell-bound heart.” You say, holding up the letters in your hand.

The messengers are about to depart as he makes one final remark “Three weeks Cap’n Abbot. Three Weeks.”

You nod, and watch them board their ship. “Three weeks…” you muse. You look at your letter in your hand, and then at the one meant for Alesa. You wonder what the difference is, but you stuff them in a breast pocket and continue about your search for the two women. It gets into the afternoon and no one has heard a thing from either of them, which has you worried. However, she couldn’t have gone far, since her ship and her crew was still here, so they must still be on the island.

You decide to honor your pirate code and wait until the women are found. You sit down on a post, thinking of where the two could have gone… then it hits you! You set off down the western coastline of the greater Abaco isle when you come to a rocky outcropping that is nearly obscured by hanging trees and foliage. The greenery is dense, but you part it easily and make your way into the surprisingly bright cave interior. You step gingerly from rock to rock, as to not disturb the water pools below your feet, and you silently make your way deeper. You stop, hearing a disturbance. Taking another step towards a bend in the cave, you start to peer around it when a fist comes flying at you.

You instinctively duck and grab the arm of your assailant, pulling them around the corner and up against the wall. You are about to deal with your assailant as you find out the person in your clutches is Mary!

“Mary I… what are you doing here? Where is Alesa?” You ask, her arm and neck still clasped in your hands. You gingerly remove them and give her a hug, to which is winces due to the bruising she sustained from the fight.

“Alesa said she needed a quiet place to talk, so, well, only you and I know of this place, so I thought it we could use it.” Mary replied, rubbing her arm lightly.

“Well you had me worried to death Mary Brennan. Don’t you ever wander off all nary without tellin’ me.” You scold.

You spy Alesa in the corner, deep in thought while sitting on a rock.

“Well, what were you young lassies talking about that it needs so much privacy, hmm?” You question, the both of them sitting down in front of you.

Alesa turned her head upwards and sighed before saying “I was apologizing for what I did, James. You are the first man to turn me away like that. I was jealous.”

“… really? You needed this secret location te talk about somethin’ silly as that?” You respond

“Well, that, ‘n I was having a discussion with Mary about if she wanted ‘te join me crew.” Alesa finishes.

You are taken aback by the statement; you would never dream of taking Mary with you on a voyage, let alone make her a regular of the crew. You are unsure if you like that idea of Mary going out into the sea where she isn’t safe, even though you know she can handle herself and you can’t control her.

You decide to dwell on that later, as you hand the letter to Alesa.

“Some strangers gave m’this. This one is fer you.” You say.

With a slight tear of the wax holding the letter closed, you flip open the paper envelope to see a letter folded inside. She begins reading hers as you unfold the hand written letter and begin reading.

[Mmm Dinner. Alright, I'm back till the end of the thread now]

“You have been summoned by Free men of the West-Indies to council upon the matters of our longevity and future persistence upon the matter of the Empire’s that ye have abandoned. As a Free man of low notoriety, you are entitled to skip said council in hopes of retiring, and your past fading into obscurity to obey the laws laid down by Tyrants.

Attendance is required in three weeks’ time, meet upon the Ragged Isle.”

You peer up from your letter to watch Alesa’s eyes dart from left to right as he finishes reading the letter. She glances up at you and nods. “Looks like we ‘r due fer a meeting. I only’ve been te one before, so somthin’ must be up.”

“You don’t say…” You respond.

You do not mention the topic of Mary joining Alesa’s crew on the walk back to town, and rather, you avoid it. The thought of losing her is unsettling your stomach and you know that she is considering it.

Once back in town, Alesa’s crew cheers at her return, as yours does the same for Mary. With the welcomes finished, you gather everyone around for a meeting on what to do.

“Captain Bonnet, I trust you will be going to the meeting?”

“Aye James, I will.”

“I see. Now, who of my crew wants to go?” You ask.

“The choice is ‘yers Cap’n. We’ll go wherever you go.” They respond.

Do NOT take Mary. Als o we should talk to her about if she want to join Bonnet. Tell her we want her at a home we could return to.
>>
>>29047604
Well we are just establishing a base of sorts. Why not let her join Bonnet and ask Bonet if she would like to form a small fleet of some description. I'm sure a small, fast ship would compliment our firepower
>>
“Then we’ll go as well, lads.” You respond. You turn to Bonnet, who is busy talking to her own men and say “I’ll be going, but I’ll arrive of my own accord. I’ll be seeing you there Captain Bonnet.”

“Fair ‘nuff Captain Abbot. I wouldn’ae want te make ye look bad fer comin’ on a lowly girls ship, eh?” She responds with a laugh.

With the Ragged isle being 16 days of travel away, you both decide that we should depart tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Bonnet nods and makes eye contact with Mary, who is standing at your side.

“Thanks fer sharing your bed with me Lass… I appreciate it with all me heart.” Bonnet remarks, a wink the departing gesture as she heads to the tavern.

You turn to face Mary, who doesn’t make eye contact, but lets out a small snort in response. “Mary, we need to have a talk before I leave. Care to accompany to my home?”

You walk arm in arm to your home, where you both sit on the side of your bed, as you have nothing but a chair in the rest of your home to sit on. “Mary… do you really want to join Alesa’s crew?” You ask.

“I don’t know James… You never offered to take me with you.” She responds.

“I couldn’t stand the thought of losing you, dear Mary. I wouldn’t dream of putting you in harm’s way! The life of a rogue isn’t one worth it for a woman of your nature, besides; who would keep everyone in line here when I am gone? I’ve been elected leader whether I like it or not, and when I am gone, I’d trust you to be there in my stead.”

Mary grabs your arm and pulls it to her chest, hugging it tightly. “You have to promise to always come back.”

“I promise.”

>Let Mary stay the night

You sit like that for a moment before you offer Mary your bed for the night before your departure. She nods, slightly teary and you let her dress for bed. When you return, you find her under the covers, a small smile adorning her face. You undress and climb into the sheets as well. Lying next to her, you naturally fit together as you cuddle up to one another; your arm around her waist and the other between just above it just below her breasts. She has her arms clasped around yours as you drift off to sleep together; but not before you let out one final remark “I’m not as soft as a woman, my apologies.” You joke, closing your eyes.

“…. And only half as good with your hands…” Mary responds, snuggling closer in your arms.

You lift your head to question her, but she is already asleep.

~~~
The morning sun lazily peers through the window, the warm light basking upon your face as you slowly wake. You pull your arms closer to your chest, expecting Mary to be still secure within them, but she is not with you. You awake fully with a start, and peer around, hearing humming from your kitchen. Peering out of the window, you reckon it would be eight or nine in the morn. Scratching your scraggly chin hairs, you rise from the bed, stretching. A pair of pants and a buttoned shirt later, you pull on your favorite boots. You spy a small box sticking out of your coat pocket that you don’t remember being there, especially since you hadn’t had it since you left it at Mary’s home.
You move to your coat, removing the small box from the large coat pocket it was residing within. A small slip of paper falls out as you remove the box. The scrawly note reads as such:
“I was going to give it to you from me, but it is better from you to her.”
You put the piece of paper in your pants pocket as you remove the sliding lid from the small wooden box, revealing the gold and silver locket you spied within Bonnet’s chest of treasures. You open it, seeing no pictures inside. You tear a small corner off of the slip of paper, and grabbing your ink, you write:
“I promise to always return to you.” On it, and slip it in the base of the locket.
You place the locket inside the box once again, contemplating on how to give Mary the locket. You suspect it is her humming from within the kitchen, but there are many ways to present it to her.
You hold the locket box in your hand, and you place it in one of her boots to find later. With it sufficiently hidden away to your liking, you saunter into the kitchen to find Mary tending over a small caste iron pan atop of the wood-burning fire. She is wearing a shirt of yours, far too large on her, like an apron to avoid getting herself dirty while cooking. She turns to see you, giving you a poke in the stomach with a finger.
“Good morn, James. “ she comments with a cheery smile.
“Likewise Mary. It’s always fantastic seeing you in a good mood.” You reply, sitting down at the table. She turns around back to the stove to finish cooking what smells like potatoes and some kind of meat. You get ample time to admire her wide hips as she toils away, swaying her hips from side to side. You shake the thought from your head as she turns around, placing the cast iron skillet on top a stone block as to not burn the table. She has made you some potatoes fried in pig’s drippings from the pork-belly you had in your stores. The smell is tantalizing to say the least, as it slowly wafts around the room, filling it with an earthy, robust smell. You pick up a small tin fork and dig in, eating happily and eagerly, complimenting her through your half-full mouth while you taste the fantastic breakfast. By the time you finish, you are stuffed, and happy. You stand up, thank her before pulling her tight against, you, planting a romantic kiss across her lips. She sighs and offers to clean up as you prepare to set sail.
You step out of your house, the sun greeting you instantly from its spot in the cloudless sky. You walk down the gangways past the Tavern, spying Alesa finishing up her preparations. You board your ship, filled with supplies for the trip there and back, and wait for Bonnet to beard hers. Once you see her at the helm of her vessel, you call for the royals to be unfurled and the anchor weighed. Your first-mate bellowing your orders soon as you pass them. Once the anchor leaves the sea floor, the Abbey lurches forwards, free from its tie to the earth. Bonnet’s Sloop, The Dodger, is following close behind. You glide out of Green Turtle Key before you put the mainsails to the wind and you really begin steaming. The Dodger pulls aside with the Freeman’s Abbey, and you set sail towards the Ragged Isle for this mysterious council of Pirates. You set once last glance into Green Turtle Key with your spyglass, seeing a figure waving from the beach. You smile.
~~~~~~~

Mary watched the Abbey leave the small lagoon that she called home. Bare foot along the beach, she also watched The Dodger glide sleekly across the calm waves right behind. She waved, even though she knew he couldn’t see her from where he was. She went to her boots which were laying on the grass by the sand, removing the small box once more to fit her feet into them, the locket dangling out from her neck as she bent over to slip the leather boots over her feet. She opened it, and read his message one last time, and clasped it tight.

“You better, James Abbot.”
