There's seven tanks racing down the valley below you- in the front (and still pulling ahead) is Turtle Team's Panzer 38(t), the flag tank. Behind her is Miho's Pz. IV, doing its best to shield the flag tank, firing backwards at their pursuers. Directly behind that are five of Saunders M4A1 Sherman tanks in rapid pursuit- firing wildly ahead. Fortunately, at their clip they aren't hitting much, or even getting that close, and even Hana's rounds seem more about discouraging the Shermans from getting too close than doing any damage.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and senshado is absolute chaos, compared with the slick, slow duels you'd experienced back in America- it seemed as though you hadn't stopped moving all morning, moving from one skirmish to the next. Over the tactical frequency, you hear Miho shouting commands to Turtle Team on where to go- somewhere else Rabbit Team is still in trouble.

You have five targets in front of you, and none of them are the real prize of the game: Saunder's Firefly Sherman- armed with a 17pdr gun with perhaps one of the finest gunners in the league, the two of you had been hunting each other all morning. And you get the feeling she's closer to you than you are to her.

But nevermind that- targets. "Load AP!" You tell Roy.

>"Miho, we're in position to support. Do you want us to reveal our position?"
>Fire on the lead tank- dissuade them from further pursuit.
>Fire on the rear tank- it'll be harder for the rest to pinpoint your position.
>Hold fire- the Firefly may be watching us now.
>Other.

You're about to give the order to fire when a thought strikes you- The Firefly is still out there, probably sitting somewhere in the woods opposite of you, gun already trained on your ridge, waiting for the tell-tale puff of explosive gasses to pinpoint your position.

And for a moment you're tactically gridlocked- you need to fire in order to save the flag tank, but firing gives your position to the Firefly. You grimmance- not firing ensures a loss, firing is only a maybe. You're about to give the order to Rose, moving the gunsight over the lead Sherman, when fate intervenes by way of Rabbit Team.

The big, green Lee smashes through the folliage ahead of the convoy of tanks, fortuitously in a perfect position to fire on the Shermans as they approach. They don't waste any time- the sponson-mounted 75mm belches fire first, throwing a round into the right track of the lead Sherman, causing it to immediately buck sideways, showing its thin side armor to the Lee's 37mm turret, from which erupts a steady stream of high-velocity armor piercing shells, making quick work of the Sherman. The second in the line attempts to pass its stricken comrade, but as it slows to turn it's hit frontally by the second 75mm shot, the AP round piercing cutting through the lower-half of the armor covering the final drive.

This is the last shot it makes, though. As the 38(t) drive full-speed into the opposite treeline, followed shortly thereafter by the Panzer IV, a single shot rings out, striking the Lee hard on its left-front quarter- the flag immediately pops.

You immediately scan the treeline opposite you, watching for smoke or any other signal that a shot had been fire. "Rabbit Team: Status?" You ask, keeping your voice even. You have a creeping feeling that you know exactly who made that shot, but you keep hoping someone else will come up with a conclusion.

"Did you see that!" Azusa said, letting out a warhoop. "We kicked ass!" You can't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "Oh! Uh, we're fine!"

You come away from the A-set smiling, but its time to get back to business. "Anyone see where that shot came from?" You ask, still moving back and forth across the treeline- useless if she fired from far enough back in the forest. Richard and Rose both respond in the negative. You shake your head.

"Grizzly Team!" Miho says over the tactical frequency. "Yukari says that was the Firefly!"

You grab the headset, practically shouting. "Did she see it?!"

"Negative- but she says she'd know that gun report anywhere..." You grimace. Well, at least you know the Firefly is close- for better or worse. Its time for your crew to do their job for the battle- find and kill the Firefly.

We don't have the numbers to just bait them into the open, and they know it. Between the Firefly, which looks to have a good position, and the persuit on our flag tank, we may be in some serious trouble.

Which is something I feel needs to be pointed out: the Firefly may have eyes on our flag tank!

"Richard." You say, practically feeling the Firefly's scope on Black Jack. "Very slowly get us back over the bridge." He obliges- it isn't easy to be sneaky in a fifty-ton heavy tank but Richard knows Black Jack nearly as well as you do, and inches the hulk backwards- you can practically hear each leaf crunch and twig snap as he does.

As the tank falls out of view of the rest of the valley, he speeds up a bit, coming to a stop in a gully that runs along the back of the ridge- the opposite side climbs to another hill a step higher than the one you'd been on. He comes to a stop. "Alright, Russells, where are we headed?"

You study the map and decide to try something that had worked before back in the states when you tried to find a hidden enemy. Pulling out a pen you mark where the M3 was killed, as well as various obstructions like terrain and the disabled Shermans. From there you mark the direction based on where the tank was hit- right forward- meaning it came from further up the valley. From here you start drawing lines- that eliminate entire swaths of the valley due to a lack of line of site.

There's a lot of places she could be hiding, but assuming she's not moving fast enough to give away her position, you can get a good idea of where she could be.

>Pursue aggressively- we need to roll up on her before she can relocate.

For Nonna's boyfriend, I think a foreigner might be interesting; military family, strong cavalry tradition, dates back to founding of nation's cavalry corps. Pravda represents a chance to learn about Soviet style tank warfare without trying to get into Russia or the Union, whichever it is. Just what I think, absolutely no need for you to use that. Katyusha's boyfriend might actually be quiet and reserved- when he speaks, he speaks with the voice of authority and experience.

Just what I think, anyway. No need for you to use it or incorporate it or anything at all.

"Ok..." You say, exhaling. "Richard, I want you to take us slowly along the bottom of this gulley... Keep us low, keep us slow and keep us quiet." One half of the equation is being quiet and getting into position- but position means nothing if you've got nothing to shoot. The forest was too dense to spot through- you need someone to guide your eyes.

Miho evidently comes to the same conclusion at the same time. "We need someone to find that Firefly." She says grimly. "To take shots and let Grizzly Team take it out."

There's a long silence, and for a moment you're worried that Miho will have to conscript someone. "We'll do it." Noriko says. "We've got some armor- maybe we won't get horribly mauled?" There isn't a lot of hope in that statement.

"Alright, see the field? Need you to move through forest to E-8." You say, watching your map- that should give her decent cover- from that point on a copse of trees in the middle of the field and a salient of the forest itself would keep her out of sight of the rest of Saunders' team. "On my mark, I want you to move out into the field- You're gonna be a target for the Firefly so keep moving." You pause for a moment. "The more shots she takes at you, the more likely we are to see her. So drive that tank like you stole it."

"Aye!" Noriko says, determination evident in her voice.

"Alright, here..." You call down to Richard as you come to the end of the gulley as it empties out into the main valley- the woods are thick and you don't have to tell Richard to slow down. At this point he's crawling along so slow that you can feel each link of the track settled into the dirt and loam of the forest floor. "Alright, stop here!"

Richard settles Jack into a sink in the dirt, low enough to give a half-decent hull down position, or least decrease your profile. You crack the hatch above you and slowly crawl out into your elbows with a pair of binoculars, staring through the trees- no luck for Duck Team. "Alright, Noriko..." You practically whisper. "We're in position."

"Roger!" The Duck Team's commander responds, iron in her voice. "Ready to start our run."

You take a breath. "Alright- GO!" You call, and you can hear her Excelsior's engine rev from your position, even if you can see her. You want to turn and watch her, but you need to keep your eyes on spotting the Firefly. You count seconds in your mind- why is it taking so long? Did she smell a trap?

You bite your lip nervously, eventually so hard you can taste coppery blood. "C'mon... Take it. Take the bait..." You whisper to yourself, willing the Firefly's gunner to go for the kill.

CRACK...BOOM! Report! As muffled and echoed back and forth by the trees as it was, your eyes snap to the direction of the shot. You don't see the Firefly, but you see the gout of smoke.

Point the gun at that position. As soon as the firefly makes another shot, we're already staring right at their approximate position and ready to make minor corrections to fire
>>
>>29036810
>Good enough- aim through the smoke.
we might be able to wing them.
>>29036859
good point, lets do that.
Also, call >"Did you see where it came from, Noriko?" and ask what their status is. it they are fine, we might be able to do this once more. If they are knocked out, time to go stomping around.
>>
>>29036849
This.
>>
>>29036810
>Wait for a clear shot.
I'm assuming the turret is already poised at the general direction of the smoke here.
>>
>>29036869
This. Stay on target...
>>
>>29036861
This is what I'm wondering. Did they take the bait knowing that? Are we being counterbaited?

...are we absolutely sure there is only one Firefly?
>>
>>29036968
Saunders started with 15 tanks, right? We've killed eight, there are three chasing anglerfish and turtle (flag), there's their flag, there's the firefly, which leaves two tanks unaccounted for.
I've lost track of hippo team
>>
>>29036810
>Smart people shoot and scoot.
>Kay is smart people.
"Hold fire, wait for movement." Message Noriko.
>>
>>29037014
yeah, what happened to the StuG?
>>
>>29037039
Were I Miho, I would probably have them set up to further wreak havoc on the tanks chasing our flag. Either that or hunting for theirs
>>
>>29037075
So an earlier version of what they did canonically against Pravda? BlackJack, can you confirm this?
>>
>>29037014
Firefly
5 M4A3s
5 M4A2s
M4A1 flag
3 E8s

Was the original lineup according to Yukari's spying. How does that lineup with what we've seen?
>>
>>29037132
Lemme pore over the past few threads...
>>
>>29037132
>>29037174
Alright so it seems they changed their composition.
>Three unspecified M4 tanks engaged, two of them knocked out
>Three M4 tanks engage us, two of which are specified as M4A1s and neither of which are the flag tank. One of the M4A1s is damaged, the unspecified M4 is knocked out.
>One unspecified M4 tank engages, is knocked out
>Two E8 tanks engaged, both knocked out
>Five M4A1 chasing flag tank, none of them flag, two of them knocked out

We're looking at at least 5-7 M4A1s depending on double-sightings, two confirmed E8s, the Firefly, and impossible to reckon the rest
>>
>>29037299
mind you BlackJack might just be dyslexic, seeing as how at one point he reported Saunders fielding a pack of Abrams
>>
>>29037327
lysdexia doesn't work that way
>>
>>29037327
12/10 I lost it. hahahahahahahah
>>
>>29037341
M4A1, M1A1, same thing
>>
Your eyes drill into the cloud of smoke- it's tempting, you can't trust it. You need a clear shot. As the forest quiets after the crack of the 17pdr, you can still hear Noriko's engine powering across the field. You allow yourself a smile- you'll get another chance! "Noriko! Keep driving!" You whisper excitedly into the radio. "We almost have their position."

"Got it!" She says cheerfully! "Shinobu can dodge these all day long!" She gloats before calling her team's phrase. "GUTS!"

CRACK-BOOOM! A second report, and this time you're looking right where you need to be- Saunder's Firefly is smart- it's moved a good twenty feet back from where it was- but you can see it moving through the trees, now! You practically dive back into the hull. "TARGET! Eighty yards!" You grab control of the turret. "Bringing you on target... On target! Fire when ready!"

You stare through the Firefly on the other end of the scope- Willing Rose's shot to count. "Firing." She says says and the turret erupts with noise as Black Jack's cannon recoils back- the round explodes against a tree, the heavy wood enough to trigger the shell's explosive filler.

"Reload! HVAP!" You shout. "One more shot!" As the debris clears you can see the Firefly clearly- its not backing away or turning around, merely swivling the 17pdr to towards you.

"Up!" Roy calls from the seat- you're practically looking down the Firefly's barrel.

"Firing." Rose triggers the gun, and the Firefly disappears behind the T54's blast of smoke and flame.

After locking up the Hanger and Bar with Rick, you realise there are some important questions you need to ask regarding the Club meets

“Match days are Saturday right?”

“Yep, they start at 8am, one match per day for the crews because it'll take most of the week to repair knocked out tanks”

“And repairs will be covered by?”

“The Club covers them, I get a Government subsidy so long as fifty percent of members are active students”

“Wait, doesn't the High School have a Tankery team?”

“Yea, they do, but there's two High Schools” Rick continues “one is a Private College that can afford a team, the other is Public which allocates some funding to this club”

“That's... actually a pretty nice arrangement”

"Be prepared to face some inexperienced, highly excitable teams"

>>
>>29037627

The conversation draws to a close and, you part ways with another firm handshake, signalling the rest of the crew who are leaning on the Buick

“Shotgun” you say before pointing at Rob “suck it”

The sound of hoof beats is heard through the open windows, you look out and see Rick riding with you to the gate.
He tips his hat as you part ways
“That guys a Cowboy” Rob says looking at him like a 5 year old in awe “that is badass”

You look at your phone and see it's nearly 6, the drive back is two and a half hours
You turn to Hamish “open the taps”
He responds with a shuddering car as power courses through the Drive Train into the rear wheels

You look back at your phone and send a quick message
“Saturday come round by 5am"

“You racing this weekend?” you inquire to your Driver

“Yeah, on Sunday” Hamish looks over to you quickly “bet on me”

“I kissed a girl and I liked it”

“Rob”

“The taste of her cherry chapstick”

“fuck it"

>[2/?]
>>
>>29037655

5am Saturday morning

“Everybody get up i...”

“Hah, I win, I win, I win” you say with a feeling of triumph creeping over you

“Adam” Rob shouts from the Kitchen “get something to eat, Hamish is going to be here in a few minutes

You roll out of bed ready to put the hurt on some breakfast

“What have we got?” you ask with excitement as you walk into the kitchen

“We've got Oats, or Eggs, or Eggs on toast”

“You're lucky this isn't a restaurant” you say as you start preparing Oats “otherwise I'd be asking for a refund”

“Shits expensive yo” Rob replies “besides, we're already shopping at the discount grocery store"

“That place smells weird” you say offhandedly

“Hey” you say perking up “can make a bit of cash off the race tomorrow, should call Ray”

“Do it later, you need to eat”

“You're not my mom” you reply before digging in

>[3/?]
>>
>>29037679

The front door slams open and a whirlwind wearing overalls walks in, “what's going on guys, ready to go?” it says with a grin

Rob flinches “Fuck John, knock next time”

He goes in for a hug “no”

You shake you head with a chuckle before going back to eating

“So, how's it going?” Rob inquires looking over at John

“Pretty good actually, you're looking at the new Assistant manager!”

“After what, 3 years working minimum?”

You drop your spoon back in the bowl, “what the fuck” you think to yourself before glaring at Rob

John doesn't sense this slight and powers on “Yeah, the old Assistant Manager was promoted to Manager”

“Hey check this out” he continues “I got us some uniforms”

Rob eyeballs it for a second before having another go “These look like prison uniforms”

“Nah, they're from my work, don't worry we were going to throw them out anyway”

“That's great, really” Rob says with an underlying tone of sarcasm

You finish your Oats and stand to clean the bowl, John moves towards you taking the bowl from your hands “I got this man” he says with a smile

You quickly move over to Rob to talk with him in a low whisper “dude, don't be a dick”

“What, it's just a bit of fun, he's a big boy he can handle it”

“You know he hangs out with us all the time because there's no one else, his family is full of bigger dicks than you're being right now, so stop being an asshole”

Rob raises his hands defensively “fine, fuck I didn't know it was such a big deal”

You place a hand on his shoulder to prevent him from walking away like he usually does when told off “seriously Rob”

“Alright, fine” he says shaking your hand off

>[5/5]

That's it for now
>>
>>29037396

Darn, looks like you guys finished without me.

After this match I think I'll put together a tankspective starring Saunders' Firefly. Who's interested?
