Your body burns with intense energy and your mind feels sharp, taking in every minute detail of the world around you. The spider eggs you toward the mountain, and indeed your very soul yearns to tackle its immensity head on. You shout back to the house and your caretaker, thanking her for her help, and complimenting her adorableness, before rocketing off to face the treacherous climb. The sprint there fills your lungs with refreshing air, and every lungful pumps even more passionate resolve into your frame.

You tackle the rockface, digging your very fingers into the stone and clawing your way up. The spider follows closely beside you, having no trouble at all ascending the jagged rocks. Up and up, higher and higher, you climb at the speed of a nimble lizard, never once stopping for rest. At some points, where there is a gap in the rock, you launch yourself up or across with little effort, and grab hold of the mountain again. The energy within you lasts for nearly two hours as you continue to climb, passing the sheer rock and meeting vines and flowers growing from the side of the large crag. Finally you reach what seems to be the top, and spot a long set of stone steps, which look to be at least 2000 strong. The spider does not follow you forward, merely watching as you sprint and leap up the stone steps 3 to 5 at a time. Your legs ache, and your throat burns, but the energy given to you by the yellow fizz drives you up each and every step, until you reach the temple proper. There you see a great red set of doors, framed in stone and carved with the facades of three monkeys, sitting side by side. Only now does the intense heat within you begin to wane.

You approach the great red doors, relaxing your breath and composing yourself. Now you realize how much sweat and dirt coats you after the long climb, but there's no time to worry at this point. You raise a fist and rap on the door, softly at first, but then with a deal more force when the sound it makes doesn't seem adequate.

Slowly, the doors creak open and you squeeze in. Within you find a dark hall, tall and bare save for rows of candles lining the walls. In the center of the room is a pillow, made from red cloth. Resting on it is a gold circlet.

You approach the gold circlet and duck down to see it more closely. It shines dully in the candlelight. You pick it up and feel it, noticing that its weight is a bit less that you would have assumed, given its size. You try to bend and twist it on your hands, but it doesn't give in the slightest.

Looking around, there doesn't appear to be anyone in the room, only doors on either side of the hall. You look back at the circlet, and are tempted to place it on your head.

You set the circlet back down on its pillow, and get up from the floor. You walk over to the right side of the chamber, and inspect the door. It seems to be unlocked and unbarred. You give it a push, and it begins to creak open. You push harder and enter the room beyond.

Here you find a room that is open to the sky, and whose walls are covered in wild vines. The vines reach down to the floor, where they twist and head toward the door at the other end. Your feet seem to get tangled up in the vines as you walk through them. Upon reaching the other door, you shove it open and behold a grand courtyard with a carved stone floor. It is shaped in a circle, with several concentric discs of stone, surrounding a large peach tree. The fruit of the tree appears ripe, despite the season, and some of it has fallen onto the ground, and bruised slightly.

You bend down and pick up the fallen fruit around the base of the great peach tree. You hold it up, and look at the bruises. They are soft and slightly discolored, but otherwise the fruit seems fine.

You look to the fruit still dangling from the tree's branches. They seem much brighter and more appealing than the ones below, but they would certainly be a great pain to reach. Now that you've thought so much about food, you begin to feel a mite peckish. You take a bite of the fruit in your hand. It is a bit too soft, and not very juicy. You finish it, and don't feel satisfied at all. Suddenly you hear a voice from above,

"The fruit at the top is much more scrumptious you know."

You are taken aback by the sound, and raise you head to the tree branches. You see a small bird there, looking back at you.

"That's awfully foolish. The fruit on the ground is all bruised and bland. The ones up top are still juicy and sweet."

You tell him that you don't like wasting food, especially after having felt the pain of hunger so many times.

"You are a peculiar one. Usually only weak and sick animals bother with floor fruit. All the smart ones pick the best and most tasty ones. Still, I suppose it's no crime to be dull witted. Tell me man, why are you here, at this place?"

You ask him why he doesn't believe in your ability to master the Golden Monkey style of martial arts, and if he might be able to teach you anything about it.

"Saru no Ken is an ancient style perfected by wise monks and warriors thousands of years ago. Or so I've heard. And I do know a few of the basic forms, but only because the monks kept shouting at the children to perform them every morning. I tell you it was impossible to get any sleep around here because of them. But no matter, I wouldn't tell you them anyway because someone so simple minded they can't even pick out good fruit would never have the aptitude to master such precise movements and forms."

You cross the room to the other door. Similar to the first one, this door opens with only a bit of force. The monks here must not have had much love for locks or knobs.

The hallway on the other side of the door is long and narrow, and curves to the right with rows of doors on each side. Some of them are jammed shut, but the majority open fairly easily and lead only to small cell-like rooms with beds and nothing else. Near the end of the hall, you find larger doors on either side, as well as one directly ahead. The left door leads to another courtyard, but this one resembles a large balcony with trees growing naturally from the walls. The branches bare no fruit, but there are some colorful flowers growing on them

The right door opens up to a smaller room, with large fire pits and black pots and pans. The air inside smells as if something has gone rotten, and so you have no urge to inspect the room further if you don't have to.

The center door opens to reveal a great garden, complete with a mote surrounding a raised stone platform. There appear to be various fruits and vegetables growing here, untouched by human hands in quite some time.

You enter the center room, gazing around and taking in what there is to see. the garden around the perimeter appears quite healthy. The water is clean and clear. You climb the incline to the raised stone platform and see there three stone statues, depicting men seated on red pillows. One of them has his hands over his ears. The second has his over his eyes. The third has his over his mouth. They are a bit unsettling, in your opinion. On the floor before the center statue is a small paper book. The cover seems to show writing in a language you do not understand, and a sketch of a monkey in a tree. You reach down and take it, flipping through the first few pages. They depict human silhouettes, taking various forms and stances. At the last page, you see an odd circle, detailed with various smaller circles and mind boggling shapes.

You study the manual for a few minutes, trying to figure out the proper positioning to them. Once you think you've got them down, you tuck the book into your belt and begin mimicking the forms. They feel odd at first, taking an odd sort of balance to maintain. You can only hold them for a few seconds before having to stop yourself from falling, or getting sore muscles. As you are trying to perform a particularly difficult one, you hear laughter. You look up and spy the same bird from before.

"I'm serious. How on earth did you manage t climb the mountain, when you are so flimsy? Why come here at all? You don't seem to even be from here? Are you ignoring me? That's very rude of you. I hope this isn't how you treat other people."

You continuing your practice, letting out small grunts and pants whenever a position or stretch is painful. Eventually you make it halfway through the book, and simply fall over from the poor sense of balance. You roll on your back and look up at the blue sky. The bird hops down and perches on your stomach.

"Just feel this potbelly you've got. Pathetic. Most of the monks had rock hard stomachs by the time they were only 14, you know. How old are you? Old enough to be climbing mountains, I suppose. I don't suspect you could do so much as 50 sit-ups as you are now."

You find that indeed, 50 sit-ups are hard after all the activity you've done today, but you power through them, before letting yourself go and panting as you rub your sore stomach.

"Oh, so you did it. Well you are so full of surprises. Of course the monks were much better. They could do nearly a thousand before even breaking a sweat. And they didn't do them lying down. They used that rack, down there. Much harder."

You peer over the edge of the platform and see the rack the bid is referring to. It is made of three poles, two holding up a third, similar to ones you've seen used to dry laundry. Hanging from the top pole are two loops of rope. You deduce that the ankles must be put through those loops, and the sit ups performed that way.

"Tell me, man. Do you truly wish to learn the style of the monks here?" You nod. "Then I suppose, if you are kind enough to help me, I could teach you the basics at least. What do you say?"

You agree to the bird's terms, and he flutters about in glee. The two of you return to the peach tree, and you pick for him his choice of the fruit near the top. You return to the ground dirty and scratched, but the bird seems delighted to taste the sweet fruits. He even offers you one, which to your surprise is indeed much better than the ones from the ground you had earlier. It fills you with energy as it bites at your cheeks, and the juice flows so much that you are forced to bend over as you eat to avoid soiling your shirt.

And so begins your training. The first day is easy, but from then on the bid puts you through the wringer in terms of training. Hours of conditioning, with very little rest. You are sore at night, and the stiff beds don't help. You eat mostly vegetables and peaches. Before you know it, autumn is upon you.

You awake in the morning, and your belly rumbles. You've gone months without meat. Your body is much thinner than when you arrived, but your stamina and muscle have grown impressively despite this. "Oh, I never get tired of hearing that! It sends shivers up my little spine! Say it again, man." You repeat, and the little bird does in fact shiver with delight. "You have done surprisingly well in your training to this point. I'm amazed you managed to go so long without meat as well. I was going to have you do more of the same, but I think it's time we move to the next step. Normally you'd need years more training before you were prepared to learn Saru no Ken properly, but honestly I'm getting bored of watching you do the same thing every day. Take this." Oh don't bother guessing I'll just tell you. It's the peaches! Didn't you think it was an odd tree? The elder monks ate them to gain the wisdom of nature, but forbade the lesser acolytes from having even a taste. I of course, got to eat my fill. Now that I think of it, that's likely why I'm able to speak the words of men. Peculiar, isn't it? In any case, you've spent far too long cooped up in here. Today we are descending the mountain, and getting you some proper real life experience. How does that sound?"

You spend the next few hours washing and packing for your journey. You fill a small sack with an extra set of clothes, as well as an armful of peaches and some things from the garden. You sling the sack over your shoulder and make your way out of the temple. It's the first time in a long time that you've seen the stone steps. They don't seem nearly as daunting from the top. You take a deep breath in, and hold it, savoring it for a moment, then release and get a running start on the trek down. You take the steps two at a time at first. Then 5 at a time. Then you are leaping down them at great speed. The bird struggles to keep up with you near the bottom. You reach the end of the steps, but cannot stop your momentum once you get there. You are sent tumbling off of the side of the mountain.

You catch and correct yourself quickly, and soon find your feet moving on their own. You run down the side of the mountain, barely clinging to the rock incline. You feel the wind in your hair, and see the wonders of the valley laid out before you. Far down below, you can see the house of your caretaker, and make a beeline for it. Faster and faster you run, until you near the foot, where you plant your feet and come to a skidding stop. The bird manages to catch you, huffing and puffing as it approaches.

"Dear god *huff* man. I didn't *huff* expect you to move *huff* so fast so soon. Where are we anyway? Why did you stop here?"

You tell the bird the story of your first attempt at climbing the mountain. He guffaws haughtily at the part where you fall. You tell him about being injured, and being fed and given the strange potions by your caretaker, and the time you spent talking at her while you healed. You ask if it would be alright to speak with her for a while before leaving on your journey proper, and he agrees. You make your way toward the house.

As you approach, you sense something amiss. Upon closer inspection, you see that the great black iron cauldron that once stood bubbling in the room near the door, has been split clean in two and knocked over. The cut is clean, and the liquid that has spilled from it is still warm. The rest of the study appears to have been ransacked. Books and broken glass are strewn about. There is no sign of anyone.

Then you hear the creak of a floorboard from up the stairs.

You approach the stairs and look up. There doesn't appear to be anything there. You begin climbing and looking for any clues as to what transpired.

Something turns the corner sharply, and collides with your face, sending you tumbling backward down the stairs and bleeding your nose. You look up and see a large man with an iron hammer descending upon you. You roll backward and get to your feet as he slams the hammer into the wood floor, causing the planks to splinter. The man before you is large and filthy, but only very faintly familiar.

"Finally found you, you little rat. Now you die!" He shouts as he comes at you with the hammer.

You backpedal, luring him outside. You see the bird take flight in fear as the man charges you with his hammer. He swings wildly, giving you good time to avoid his attacks. He drags the hammer through the air over your head, then upward, then across your belly, forcing you to lean forward and draw your torso back. He takes advantage of this position and drives a headbutt into your skull. You dash back, landing poorly as you try to gain composure. His strikes become more rapid, but much sloppier as a result. You are able to sneak in several body blows as he assault you. However as you maneuver, your foot hits a patch of mud and slides out from beneath you. As you work to regain balance, he drives the hammer into your side and sends you flying back toward the house. You get up, feeling your side. Just a bruise, but a big one.

Evantually he gives and and confesses to helping his comrades kidnap the girl, and take her away a few hours ago. They apparently wanted revenge for you getting them driven out of town by the locals, months ago.

Having extracted all the information you need from him, you draw your fist back, and hammer his forehead with a mighty blow that seems to create ripples in the grass blades beneath his head. He foams at the mouth for a moment, then gives up the ghost. You call up to the bird, telling him that you need to make for the town immediately. He does not protest, droping down to perch on your shoulder. You head off in the direction of town, hitting a full sprint the entire way.

When you arrive, the town seems to be a bit off. Many of the people are keeping their heads down as you pass. You begin asking the people around town about the group of thugs, being sure to describe the leader as best you can. You also make mention of the girl they may have with them. most of them don't give you anything useful, but you do come across a young man who tells you that they ran an innkeeper out of his own tavern a few weeks ago, and started paying off the sheriff to overlook their actions until they leave. You ask where the tavern is, and he points you to it, warning you about the danger.

You find the place in question, and see that most of the shops on the street are closed and barred. It seems they don't want to risk the attention of the thugs. As you approach, you can hear talking and noise from inside. You peek in the window and see 5 men, all boisterous and slightly drunk, sitting around the room. The leader is behind the counter, pouring wine from ceramic bottles for the group. Near him are a set of stairs that must lead up to the rooms. You step back, and see that there are three windows on this side of the building. It may be possible, though difficult, to scale the wall and enter unseen.

You land as quietly as you can, to avoid raising alarm. You are now in a hallway with three wooden doors, each closed. There is a stairway leading down to your left.

You release the hold, and as you fall, kick him down the staircase to land on the others. When you look over to the leader, you see his face is deep red with rage. You smile at him, but that smile quickly fades when you see him reach for a glass jar, and hold it up in one hand. Inside is a large and familiar spider, shaking and somehow managing to look afraid with his dozen eyes.

"Cease this and fight us like a man, or I'll smash this freakish bug against the wall!"

You leap down the flight of stairs, landing on one of the fallen thugs and hearing a slight crack as you do, then lunge for the jar. The leader evades your attempt, and backs out from behind the counter, taunting you by tossing the jar back and forth between his hands. You follow, getting in close and trying to grab the jar. He keeps it from you, and drives an uppercut into your stomach, sending you up and into a table, which breaks upon impact. He laughs again, shaking the jar and sending the spider on a dizzying trip.

You kick your legs up, bringing your body with them, and land on your feet. From a squatting position, you propel yourself forward and at the thug leader. He is slightly surprised by this, and backsteps out of the tavern door. The two of you proceed to brawl in the street, with you on the offensive. Between punches and kicks, you manage to grab the jar, only to have it taken away when he lands a hard blow to your neck. Back and forth it passes, shaking the poor spider within, as the two of you battle for its fate.

it finally ends when you kick the jar up and into the air, out of his hands, then deliver a powerful palm strike to his solar plexus. He is sent flying back and into the wall of the building behind him, and you catch the jar. You check on the spider, and see him stumble around, dizzy, but seemingly unharmed. The thug leader lays groaning, stuck in the crumbled wall. He appears unable to move.

You approach the leader, warning him that should he attempt to follow you again, you won't be as gentle. You can't tell if he understands, as he is occupied with his no doubt enormous pain, but you don't think it matters either way. You head back into the tavern, and pass by the other thugs, who seem much less zealous in attacking you now that their leader has been dispatched.

You ascend the stairs and return to the room where your caretaker was stowed away. She seems to have found a rag somewhere, which she somehow managed to slip over her head to hide her face. She certainly hears you come in, as you see her shrink away from the doorway when you enter.

You remove the lid from the glass jar and place it on its side on the wood floor. The spider drunkenly stumbles out of the mouth of the jar, and makes its way over to the girl. It taps her hand with one of its legs, and she pets it gently. Then she scoops the spider up and places it on her shoulder, where it nestles in and rests. The bird, now roosted on one of the wine crates, comments on how bizarre it is for an ugly creature like the spider to be so friendly with someone. You glare at him, but he seems unaware.

You approach the girl, seeing her shrink away from you again, and tell her that the thugs who took her from her home are gone now, and that you plan to help untie her and let her go free. She doesn't respond, as usual. You try to reach for her ankles, but she pulls them away when you lift her robe to see her legs. You emphasize again that you are only trying to help free her, but when you reach for her ankles once more, she scoots away. You apologize for seeing her, hoping that it will help convince her to hold still, but she doesn't respond.

"What a silly girl," remarks the bird, "No wonder they cast her out of town. But I suppose she did sign up for it."

You try to convince her that you won't look at her so long as she holds still, but she still seems reluctant. You think for a moment, then come up with an idea. You take the cloth rag from her head, and pull it away. She turns her head away immediately, but you pay her no mind. You proceed to wrap the rag around your own head, and tie it into a blindfold. You then tell her to look and see, and she must, because a few moments later you feel her legs come to rest on your lap. You reach down and gently feel her ankles, and she does not shrink away. You untie the knot in the rope, which takes a bit longer than it should thanks to the blindfold, and then ask her to bring her hands over. You her shuffling, and then feel her weight gently fall into your lap. She sits there, and you find her wrists. You untie the bonds a bit more quickly this time, and toss the rope aside, letting her know she is completely free again. You feel her throw her weight on you, and place her hand on your head, patting you like she did long ago.

You find her in the next room over, picking a bedsheet up from a pile of them, and tossing it over her head. The spider climbs to the top of her head and peers around, once again serving as a crude eye. She slowly walks over to you, and comes to a stop a foot away.

You rub your forehead as you watch her stumble about, attempting to follow you back down the stairs and outside. When you get too fed up with it, you approach her and turn around. You kneel and bump her, causing her to fall forward and onto your back. She grips your shoulders for dear life, as you grab the backs of her knees for support. She shakes, and the spider transfers from her head to the back of your neck. You ask if she is ready, and with her lack of response, assume the answer is yes, as you leap out the nearby window, and land on the stone street. You feel her shake again, and tell her to calm down or risk falling off. She does seem to relax when you command her. You look back at the tavern, and see that the thugs have cleared out. Their leader also seems to have gotten away at some point.

You begin walking, heading back the way you came to leave the town. As you pass through the busy streets, you notice several people gossiping about the thugs leaving town a short while ago. As you go further, you begin to notice more and more people staring at you and your odd group as you pass by. Some of them whisper, while others simply stare dumbfounded. One person in particular seems to realize who the girl on your back is, and mentions something mean under his breath.

Eventually you clear the town and continue on the road toward the house. The people do not follow you out, but some do stop to watch you go.

Imagine me, trading away this beautiful song of mine for the ability to mix up a few measly potions. I've heard she sells remedies to folks in town, but nobody really trusts a witch, do they? You let her down from your back and watch as she walks toward the house. She lifts the sheet to allow her to see, and you notice her knees begin to buckle under the weight of seeing her home in such a state. You offer to help her clean and repair everything that is damaged, but she seems to ignore you. She walks over to the black iron cauldron, and places her hand on it. The spider leaps down and dips its leg into the green liquid spilling from it, splashing it around a bit.

You feel a deep sense of guilt. Your chest tightens, and your stomach turns. You approach her and ask if she would prefer to come back up the mountain with you. You even offer to help her pack what she needs. She still seems distraught.

You try to convince her not to be so saddened over simple possessions, and offer to take her in for free if she will come back up the mountain with you. When she seems to ignore you, you approach and place a hand on her shoulder. You restate again that she is free to come back to the temple, and that you'll even help her get her things back in order up there. She turns around, and nods beneath the sheet. You help her pack up a few things, such as clothes and a few books, and head up the mountain again. You are force to take her on your back again, as she lacks the strength to climb the peak, and all the added weight severely holds you back. You catch your breath and stand up as straight as you can manage with your aching back. You show her the entrance hall, with all the rows of candles that need to be reset and lit once a week. You show her the peach tree, and share some of the fruit with her. The juice bites her cheeks, the same as it once did yours, which you can only tell by the way she grabs them beneath the sheet. You show her the cells, which seem to depress her slightly. You show her the balcony, and even demonstrate some of the forms you've learned, but of course she doesn't see a single one. You skip the kitchen, not wanting her to bear witness to the foul odor that exudes from it. And finally you show her the garden, and the three statues that you like to meditate by in the morning.

After the tour is finished, you look over to see if it made any sort of impression. She still hides her face beneath the sheet, but you can't help but think she seems slightly more relaxed. You ponder for a moment, and ask if she can truly understand your words. She nods. You ask if she knows how to write at all, and she nods again. You think you may have something now. You tell her to wait near the statues while you fetch something, and you return to her with a length or rolled paper and an ink brush. You hand them both over.

She brings the roll of paper beneath the sheet and begins scribbling on it. You sit and watch the sheet move around for a minute or so, and then see it jut out from beneath. You grab it and unroll it. The writing is a bit sloppy, making it difficult to understand until you read it over a few times.

You learn that her name is Ai, and do indeed confirm that she is a witch. In exchange for her understanding of magic, she gave up her ability to speak. She tells you that she found you hurt at the base of the mountain, and dragged you all the way back to her home to help you heal. She blindfolded you so you wouldn't be able to see her face, and be scared of her appearance.

She explains that her old teacher got angry at her for refusing to do terrible things to people in order to extract ingredients for her brews, and so she hexed her entire body with terrible boils and scars, which caused her to flee and end up here.

There is no mention in the note of her bewitching you, but she does confess to giving you a few potions that were intended to do something that they clearly did not.

She hesitates, grabbing the sheet and pulling it away slightly, then tugs it all off at once, revealing herself in full. You see her familiar messy hair, hanging down over her face. Her skin, contrary to what you have been told, seems incredibly healthy. It is smooth, supple, and soft. You take on of her hands and inspect it, but find absolutely nothing wrong.

She pulls the hand away and picks up the paper and brush again. You notice tears beginning to build in her eyes as she writes. When she hands the paper over, it reads

You tell her that you see nothing wrong with her skin, but of course she doesn't look convinced. You head back into the temple, telling her to wait while you fetch a mirror. You find a very ornate but perfectly functioning one in one of the cells, and bring it to her. She peers into it once you hand it to her, and you see a frown overtake her face. You move behind her and look into the mirror as well. Sure enough, the face reflected in it is covered in horrid, bursting boils and terrible red scars that maker her skin look burnt over every inch. Her hair too, seems matted and foul. You take the mirror away and toss it into the mote around the platform. She buries her face in her hands, but you pull them away. You assure her firmly that the hex is all an illusion. You look up to the bid and ask his opinion.

"Well you both are honestly quite homely, but if I had to choose between the two of you I'd say she's better looking only because she isn't covered in dirt."

She seems to cheer up at this.

She smiles. You tell her that once winter passes, you'll head down the mountain and begin looking for a way to help her. She takes up the paper again and writes, "Thank you."

After all the excitement of the day, you feel completely drained. You tell her to make herself at home, and bid her goodnight. Your cell bed is especially comfortable that night, and you sleep like the dead. The next morning you wake up and stretch, just as always. It isn't until you're about to leave your cell that you remember you have another person living here. You exit the room and walk down the hall, looking to see which cell she chose to stay in. You find the one that holds all of her things, but she doesn't appear to be in it. You feel your stomach growling.

A) Get something to eat, then find her

She's probably having something to eat too. That or we've fallen asleep for two weeks like Donnel did and is trying to find a potion to wake us.

You ignore your primal hunger and instead continue looking for Ai. You check the candle room, peach tree, garden and even the balcony but find no sign. You ask the bird while investigating the tree, if he had seen her all morning. He gives you no information but does beg to be fed. You tell him that everyone can eat once you've found her. He does not approve.

You finally come to the only place she might be; the kitchen. You open the door, plugging your nose to guard against the foul stench of rotten food. You are surprised to find, however that the smell is absent. It is instead replaced with an also foul, but much more tolerable smell. You enter and see Ai, standing over one of the fire pits and mixing a pot of something. She sees you enter and steps back, half hiding her face with her arm on instinct. You look around and see that she has straightened out the room, and made it much more presentable. She has placed her books on some of the shelves, and scrubbed everything clean.

She moves to one of the counters nearby and picks up the paper and brush from yesterday. She begins writing, taking a few short pauses during, and then hands the roll over to you. On it, she explains that she needed somewhere to work, and this was the most suitable place, so she spent the night cleaning and preparing it. She explains that currently, she is trying to mix something to thank you for letting her stay here, but it won't be ready for a long while. You nod, and ask if she's ready for breakfast. She nods and the two of you had out to the tree to munch on some of the fruits. You finish off your last peach, while she still works on her second.

For now, we help her out. Make her feel loved.

When winter comes and the cold sweeps in, she would want to be warm.

Hug by a young boy with lean strong musles. She rub and rub herself on his abs until she flushs and blush in lust.
