Sorry for the wait!

You are Freja-Signi Bjornsdottir, a 14 year-old Einherjar pilot. It is lunch break in your school, and you are sitting with your fellow pilots Karl Brunson and Hilde Geirridr at the school's cafeteria. Here you can finally get something that is not Hakarl or Surstromming, like, say, a really nice smoked salmon sandwich! It seems like Karl is too busy being surprised to really enjoy his sandwich, though.
"I can't believe you set me up for that date, Freja."
Of course, he is referring to just a few hours ago, when you were called upon to duel in the school's P.E. Arena against the school diva, Ingrid Thorbjorn, and made her go on a date with Karl.
"Well, it's what you want, isn't it? She does have that diva body." You reply.
"No it's not! She's too... snobby!" Karl said, slightly blushing.
"Oh? Could it be that you already have eyes set on another girl?" Hilde said matter-of-factly.
Karl's face reddened. "Agh. I just wish that I could cancel the date, somehow..."
>say:
[ ] Strong approach. "Don't be such a wimp! You are not a wimp, right?"
[ ] Try it Out approach. "I get it that you don't really like her, but hey, who knows, right?"
[ ] Subtle Attention approach. "Watch what you wish for, you might get into a date with me, or something."

[ x ] Strong approach. "Don't be such a wimp! You are not a wimp, right?"
>>

Worst case scenario you just ogle her while remembering to smile and nod.

Not a big deal.

Also might make him look more desirable to other girls if he does.a good job.

He doesn't expect his dream girl to just sweep him off his feet out of nowhere does he?

Something that conveys those sentiments.
>>
>>28998813
Also I don't think this be a good time to start running a quest unless you're Deculture.
>>
>>28998730
You slap Karl on the back. "Don't be such a wimp! You are not a wimp, right?"
"No?"
"Then take that date like a man, Karl! Come on, I know you can do it!"
"I guess..." Karl sighs, but then he straightens his back. "I guess I can try."
"Think of it as practice, or something like that."
Karl was about to say something, but all three of you were interrupted by the sound of all three of your handphones ringing suddenly. You open yours, and see Helga on the screen.
"Pilots, drop everything, meet me in the subway station below your school! AESIR needs your piloting skills!"
Oh man, what does she mean by that? You hastily stuff the rest of your smoked salmon sandwich into your mouth, and does the same to Karl. Hilde joins you three as you and Karl head to the subway station. There you see Helga, just arriving in an AESIR special train.
"Come on, get in, and I'll brief the situation." She sounds frantic and a bit exhausted, but still keeping a professional aura. Surprisingly, beside her you see Klaus Thorsson, the Ops Director. He waves at the three of you. As you enter the subway train, questions pour from your head...
>ask:

You waste no time asking as you strap yourselves to the seats. "What are we up against?"
Klaus replies, his baritone voice left no echo in the almost empty AESIR train car. "Based on the energy patterns, we believe it might be similar to the Nibelwulf you encountered the other day. But, satellite imagery has seen that it is vastly different from the Wulf."
Helga adds. "You'll have to intercept it way up north, near the glacier. It came from the north sea, freezing over the waters on its way here."
You nod, and ask another question. "Okay, so, uh, what's Klaus doing here? Are you two dating?"
Klaus laughs heartily, while Helga blushes and tries to cover up. "Er... uh, no! We were just, happened to be in the same room! When the alert rang! Yeah!"
Klaus finishes his laugh, and added. "Oh, Helga, where did you find these pilots? They're quite the riot."
After just a few seconds, you arrive at an AESIR station, obviously located in the Asgard section of the Yggdrasil megastructure. You, Karl and Hilde changed into your battlesuits, and strode on to Valhall, the Einherjar's hangars. On the way, you pass a large atrium, with an eagle sculpture encased in some kind of blue forcefield. There seems to be a hologram of a black bird circling the statue. But you carry on, your Einherjar is waiting!
On the way, Klaus pats your shoulder. "You three will be dropped at the base of the glacier. We believe the Tango is going to pass through the top of the glacier. What's your plan?"
>say:
[ ] Wait at the glacier's foot and attack when it gets close.

>>

[ x ] Wait at the glacier's foot, get one Einherjar to bait the target into our line of fire.
First option seems flashy but but you can't exactly predict the glacier's movement.
>>

In addition I must reiterate that this isn't a good time for questing.

Though you'd think West Coast people would be around.
>>
>>28999114
>>28999120
"Well, we can't really predict what happens with the glacier, right? So I think one or two Einherjars would try to climb up and attack, while one stays behind and use the pallet rifle to cover us."
Klaus pats you on the back. "You are smart one, Freja. It is precisely what I would do, only that one climbs, while the two covers fire. Well, so be it, you and Karl engage the target, while Hilde will provide covering fire. I'll relay this to the other pilots as well."
He then pats you on the head. "Good work. Now, go to your cockpit, and get ready for the launch." You climb into your Einherjar's exposed cockpit, E-01, and wait as the rig retracts into the body of the metal giant. As your visual cortex system lights up, you see Hilde's Einherjar being equipped with a pallet rifle, while Karl's Einherjar holds his twin axes crossed on its chest. You? You are still picking up your weapon of choice...
[ ] Sword and Board: Just like last time, you are most familiar with this set-up.
[ ] Pallet rifle: While sword and board is your preferred weapon of choice, you might also think of the long climb, and if the enemy has ranged capabilities.

You thought that while your preferred fighting style is sword and board, this time you are fighting in a glacier. And you know that if the enemy has ranged capabilities, you're pretty boned. So you open up a comm channel to Helga. "Helga! Cancel my sword and board equipment! I think I'll have the pallet rifle for this battle!"
Helga's face pops up. "I see, but ask Greta Jansen. She's the head of the equipment crew. Let me patch you up."
A short while later, the face of a thickly-bespectacled, twin-braided, slightly pudgy face of a woman appeared. "Yo pilot, Helga told me you wanted a change of weapons?"
"Yes, I think this time I'll use the rifle."
"Hmm, okay, but we'll have to delay your launch by a bit. You okay with that?" She scratches her head.
"I'm fine with that. I think Karl can hold the enemy by the time I get there."
"Okay then." She then turns to the side, and yells, "RIGHT! Change the loadout, pilot wants the rifle! Calibrate it on the way!"
"Thanks, Greta."
"No problem, sweetie." She grins. "By the way, I heard gossip that Karl has a girlfriend now?"
"Wait what? How did you know that?"
"I have my sources, you know. So? Is it true?"
"Well, not exactly, he did get a date."
"Oh, to be young again! By the way, I have the dirt on anyone important from the base... you want to hear any of them?"
>say:

"Okay, is it true that Helga and Klaus has something going on? They happen to be in the same room when the call came? Wonder what they were *doing* in the same room."
"Oh ho, you're in for a treat!" Greta snickers. "Helga and Klaus used to be together, you see. Way back in the first Ragnarok." They taught you that in school, that was the first time the world got invaded by these mysterious monsters and creatures. The Einherjar project came shortly after, to combat these monsters.
"Anyways, Helga used to be an Einherjar pilot, and Klaus used to be a comms officer. But then, something happened, and they've been cold. Well, until recently that is."
"Hold up, Helga used to be a pilot?"
"Well yeah, but you won't get that info from her, wouldn't you? Just keep it between us, but she doesn't want that bit of her past known. So, she and Klaus used to be close, right? Well it seems that old flames die hard. She and Klaus were in a reserved conference room, when the call came..." She started grinning harder, and blushing, and hyperventilating. "Oh right, you're still a minor. I'll leave it to your imagination of what could have happened in there."
"You mean you don't?"
"Well, rumors are rumors, you know, but they were seen entering the room... Oh! There we go! Your rifle's ready!" Greta smiles while giving the thumbs-up. You brace as the Einherjar steps into the dampened shock cradle, and is promptly shot into the base of the glacier via railgun. As your vessel lands on the base of the glacier, you see broken artillery pieces lying on the glacier; damage seem to be caused by ice. You see that Hilde is aiming up, and Karl is halfway up the glacier. "There you are!" Karl comms up. "We haven't seen the target yet, but we're looking out for it."

You open the rifle case, and ready your rifle first before starting to climb. "Hilde, keep your eyes open for the target."
"Aye." Hilde keeps up her aim, hiding behind a sizable ledge on the glacier.
Minding the slippery glacier ice, you maneuver your Einherjar deftly, the neural feedback warning you of fragile footings. Even so, you look at Karl's Einherjar up there, and he's much more nimble than yours; nevertheless, you ready your rifle, just in case.
Then, you spot it - or maybe it was mutual. A humongous, ice-colored humanoid easily twice the size of an Einherjar appears at the top of the mountain, where the glacier starts. It must have been camouflaging itself in the glacier ice's colors, but you spot it when it walks in front of dark-colored rock. You also see that it is raising one arm, and its stance looks like as if it's trying to throw something at Karl.

Quickly, you open up comms to Karl. "Karl, watch out! Enemy at your ten!"
"Wha-" Karl's Einherjar slid down, your warning making the giant missing its target. A rumbling sound is heard as the icy projectile smashes against the mountainside. "Shit!"
Suddenly, Klaus' face pops up in your comms. "Pilots! We have new data. What you are facing is a Jotunn-type! Be advised, it is very strong in melee."
"What about ranged?" You quickly asked.
"Ranged? Uh... we have no data on that."
"Well, time to update it, they can throw snowballs at us!" You try to aim at the Jotunn, whose form blends in yet again into the ice. Meanwhile, Karl scrambles up again, using his twin prog-axes like climbing axes.
>What is your strategy?

Not letting the moment go, you try to fire at the supposed location of the Jotunn; to your dismay, you only hit glacier ice. "Hilde, you saw that giant?"
"Yes, but I didn't have enough time to shoot at it."
"Right, keep on a lookout, that giant is still here somewhere; Don't lose sight of it again!"
Karl pipes up. "Hey, Klaus said these guys are good at melee right?"
"Yeah, but turns out they're also good at throwing us ice bombs too. Keep on a lookout as we climb."
"Man, I'm glad they have us on extended batteries. I feel like 5 minutes isn't cutting it."
You nervously look up towards the dark areas of the mountain, trying to see if the Hrimthursar shows its mug again; Suddenly, Hilde fired a shot. "I see it!"
You turn to where Hilde is shooting, and sure enough, you see the Jotunn.
Bad news is, it's barreling towards you. You see it only because its speed defeats its camouflage.

>dat first nat 20 in the quest

Thinking quick, you remember that the glacier is slippery, and that big things will fall hard. So you move to trip the Jotunn... only to slip yourself, making your Einherjar sail towards the Jotunn faster than you really want. The Jotunn, on the other hand, went for a donkey punch; The end result is not happy at all, as the neural feedback screamed bloody murder on your crotch. As you are doubling over in pain, the Jotunn goes for another attack, and this time its foot contacts your Einherjar, sending E-01's chest armor sprawling, and breaking some arteries on it, sending a spray of crimson on the white glacier. If there is one good thing that could come from this, is that the Einherjar blood also sticks to the Jotunn; but as your neural feedback overloads your brain with pain, the last thing you recognize before you pass out is Karl and Hilde screaming your name.
You wake up, hours later, in an AESIR medical helicopter, Karl and Hilde by your side. Karl looks like he's almost crying and hyperventilating, and Hilde herself suffering from some bruises.

"Well that could have gone better."
Karl sniffles. "Damn, damn right it could..."
You look down to yourself, and see that you've broken your arm; by the feel of it, it seems like one or two ribs as well.
"Hilde, what happened?" you say, half-dazedly.
"You got assaulted by the Jotunn. After that, since your Einherjar's blood stained it, I was able to take a shot to its head." Hilde shifted her seat. "But as I shot its head, it retaliated by pelting me with the ice bombs. I guess Karl here gets the credit for the kill."
"What do you mea- uggg." Pain once again flares. Suddenly, you see Helga's face up close, near your face. You didn't even realize she was there. "Shh, now. Morphine time. Answers later." You feel something jab into your left arm, and then you pass out again.
As you reawaken, you find yourself in a hospital room. AESIR base hospital, of course. It is late, and you see Karl and Helga asleep near your bed. You can see tear trails on Mark's face. Hilde is there too, but you realize she's not actually sleeping.

You look closer. Her eyes aren't fully open, but she turns to you, and it was then you see that her golden pupils were completely hidden; she's showing only the whites of her eyes. Then her mouth opens, and a voice that isn't Hilde's came out.
"No, this is not the waking world." You gasp, but not-Hilde continued. "You are not awake, Freja-Signi Bjornsdottir, and neither is Hilde Geirridr."
"So... who are you?"
"You may call me L. I have come to warn you of Nibelwinter coming. But before that, you will have to battle Jormungandr and Nidhoggr, although you will not kill the two." L-Hilde turns towards Karl and Helga. "Watch your friends. They are your greatest treasure."
"Wait, what do you mean by-" you realize that you are now sitting up. Karl and Helga is still sleeping, and you see that Hilde is also sleeping- but she wakes up as soon as you did.
"Freja, you're awake." She said, calmly.

"I don't think so. I was asleep, you know." She smiles a bit.
"Right..."
"By the way, Helga interrupted me, back at the helicopter. You see, after the Jotunn took you down and pelted me with ice bombs, Karl went berserk."
You look incredulously at Hilde, and then at Karl's tear-trailed face.
"He did... what?"
"He went berserk."
Karl? A Berserker? You can't even comprehend the two concepts together. Berserkers are rare nowadays, after the first Ragnarok- men who can enter into an enraged trance. Even less clear was the implication of one being a pilot of an Einherjar.
"So... Karl went berserk... what'd he do?"
"He managed to engage the Jotunn in single combat. I rushed up to provide backup and cover your back, but by the time I reached you, that Jotunn was already dead. Klaus has the full report, as does Helga."
All this information spins in your head, and again you pass out...
What is L?
Is Karl really a Berserker?
Why is Hilde the vessel for this L?
find out next time in Neon Ragnarok Einherjar Quest!
Thank you for participating. Sorry for a weak fight scene and long posting times, lunch and dinner took up more time than I thought it would. How do you like the quest so far?
>>
>>29000798
I think it's pretty nice, but...hmm, I dunno, might just be the lack of activity/posting times shortening the thread, but it feels like combat is taking so much of each session that the characters get little development. Karl is okay as the bro I guess, and Ingrid has the rival boost to interestingness, but the rest could use some fleshing out. And it makes each session feel like it goes start -> action -> action -> end, without any pauses or breaks.
>>
I'm not participating, but I am monitoring
>>
>>29000831
Okay, I'll take that to mind. Fleshing out things isn't quite my forte though, but I'll try my best. Three or four non-action updates in a row, is it good?

Also, expect the rumored exchange student for ep. 3!
>>
>>29000854
Sure, that sounds like a good start. Always room to experiment early on.
