EPISODE 8: MAISON IKIRYO (Part 2)

LAST TIME: You paid a business visit to the offices of the 'Gentleman's Club' and left with property that was currently in use. You also got to learn of Akira's travels as a youth. Now you're back at the Dumpling Factory, preparing to deal with the consequences of alcohol.
- - -

"So, we have any idea what's going to come at us?" Akira asks.

Sato shrugs. "As long as the containment unit doesn't blow, we should be okay. I think."

"You think...have the rabbits got anything more to say?" Star asks.

"No." You say, slightly upset as you scowl at your phone. "I've called them three times already and I'm getting sent to voice mail, every time. After only one ring."

"We really should look into upping their rates." Sato says. "Or making their 'Safe Unit' uncomfortable."

"Yeah, about that." Star asks. "Can we put them into a Trap at all? I mean, they're yokai, not ghosts. They're flesh and blood, not PKE."

"Can we focus on how we're going to survive this?" Akira says. "Now as I see it, we can hide in out little flour bunker with these soup strainers on our he-"

"Colanders." Sato interrupts.

"Whatever." Akira says. "I don't like hiding."

"Well...we could set up a lure of our own, put down some traps, whatever we need to make sure that anyone shows up will get blasted in the face." Sato says.

"I think we might want to hunker down and stay here." Star says. "They're going to be attacking us all night, the quieter we keep, the better." Star says. "We can wait them out."

"And I say the sooner we make an example of the first spook that attacks us, and a VERY DRAMATIC example at that, the sooner the other spooks will get the message and run." Akira says. "I think we need to charge out there, packs blazing."

> Akira's right, let's go offensive.

>Sato's plan to set traps is best.
I actually agree with Sato on this. Everyone has goggles on, PKE meters out, and trap the ever-loving shit out of the factory.
We string up traps all over the place with remote triggers so that as soon as some uppity spirit comes around, they get a one-way ticket to our Containment Unit via a Ghost Trap Express.
>>
>>28988933
>Hey I've got my own plan!
Sato, set up as many traps as you can around the windos and doors. Star, move everything out of this room that isn't really heavy or already nailed down. Akira..... I hope you won't get your chance, but it might come down to that. I'll check on the Containment Unit one last time.
Keep your goggles on and don't go out of sight alone. Let's move, people!
>>
"I think we should do a bit of everything. Set up traps, in a defensive pattern and get ready to do Akira's plan." You say.

The others all grumble a bit about it but there's no out and out disagreement.

"Okay," You say. "Sato, you're on traps. Any entry spot that we haven't got secured, windows, doors, drains, cracks, or drawing of a door."

"Star, you're going to nail down anything that isn't nailed down, and anything that's big and heavy enough for us to hide behind should be used to boost our barricade."

She nods and scampers off.

"Akira, you're on scout and PKE scan. Tonight, I think we're okay with shoot first and talk later."

"Got it."

You have go this down, the windows, the door, and you actually managed to get one of the Mk. 2s working. Dr. Griffin and her team's equipment is great, but fussy as all hell. Still, you can't turn down the chance for a proximity triggered trap.

You head back to the bunker zone, which now looks a lot less slapdash...still kind of 'post-apocolyptic' in it's design with it being made of scrap, and random industrial baking supplies...but it's something you can hide behind...as long as they can't levitate things that weigh more than cars.

Which is less of a comfort than you'd like.

The minutes click past as you all wait for the night to pass.

You see occasional shifts in the darkness, and so often you hear the sound of a trap buzzing off and see a flash of light and the smell of ozone.

Akira actually looks kind of bored and unhappy.

They're fine, but they also look kind of bored.

Akira's been staring at the windows and drinking his own canned coffee. He's got narrowed eyes.

"What time is it?" He asks.

"We've just passed 1 am." Sato says.

"So dawn's not for another couple of hours?" Akira asks.

"No, why?" Star says.

"Because I'm seeing sunlight through the windows and hearing birdsong." He says.

"Crap." You say. "That's not good."

"Well, it means that they could be getting desperate." Sato says. "Resorting to dumb tricks like that."

"It's a classic trick actually." Star says. "The legend of Isora."

"Huh." You say. "So another ghost who's trying to ape a legend?"

"Maybe, all it takes is for a spirit to want to take vengeance upon a cheating spouse." Star says. "She's harmless as long as we stay inside."

"What happens if this Isora decides to go for someone else if she can't get to us?" Sato says. "She's dangerous right? I mean, we're strong enough to resist her tricks, way to go Akira, but...well...what if she gets bored with us and goes after someone else."

"We're the only targets for the night." Akira says. "We'll wait her out and this'll be over and done with."

"But can you be SURE of that?" Sato says. "I think we can take her. Make sure no one else gets hurt. I thought you of all people would be game for it."

"I've got no problem with blasting her, but I'm not foolish enough to go looking for a fight." Akira says.

Carp, arrived little late but how much slime do we have?
If we have slime out of our noses, I would've liked to suggest slimming either the inside or the outside of our base, to prevent ghosts from phasing through the walls.
>>
>>28991409
Thatd be very messy, but make the place a lot safer. We should've done that on the outside when we were setting up the traps.
We could've played some cheery music to keep the slime positively charged.
>>
>>28991470
We could at least slime our barricades to ensure even the most powerful ghosts can levitate our shit.
>>

"Akira how COULD you!? Star LOVED you and you went behind her back with some two-timing hussy!" You say.

"What are you tal-" Star says and then her eyebrows go up. "Ohhhhh." She pauses and then sobs. "I thought we HAD something! The matchmaker SAID that we were MEANT to BE! I should have LISTENED to that wooden cauldron that didn't say anything!"

The windows start to rattle and shake, and there's a harsh thudding and pounding upon the door.

"Why is this a good idea?" Akira asks Sato.

"I think it's to piss the ghost off enough that we make her break the 'rules' of her story. That way we can trap her easier." Sato answers back. "That or Dai and Star have a LOT of issues."

"Well I knew THAT...fine, weaken the ghost and take her out, make her play our game. I like it. I'm in."

"What can I say?" Akira says loudly. "If I had only a little bit more of...passion within our love then I'd love you more with...more love."

Okay, so acting isn't Akira's strong point.

>>28991409
Central had enough slime on hand for the statue of liberty, but they may have only been taking the stuff from the sewers.

If I recall, all the mood slime in new York came from Shandor Island from a portal to the ghost realm. I'm not sure if the GB ever figured out how to manufacture the stuff, so our slime supplies may depend on what they sent us.
>>
>>28991700
The slime from the portal was completely black too. Shandor had mechanical refineries which turned it into mood slime.
>>
>>28991700
I thought it was some kind of unit that used a sample from the mood slime and amplified it with the realease of the proton packs. We have unlimited slime so far we don't use too much at a time IIRC
>>
>>28991811
The slime is generated by specially cultivated breeds of Egon's collected spores, molds, and fungi. The sample is placed within the pack and the secretions are positively charged by way of low-frequency sound. As long as the sample isn't too heavily strained at any one time, you'll never run out.

>>
>>28992301
A thought occurred to me. The statue of liberty came to life and helped because slime, of good feels and music, the fact that people think liberty is good.

I wonder if we could try making a ghost buster friendly golem.

The Jews made the golem of Prague by placing a piece of paper with the name of god in it. It's possible the paper became the focal object for the golem, and the clay may have been formed with slime, while the Jews prayers and belief gave it power. It protected them.

So maybe we can do something similar.

You might have pushed it too far. That or whomever Isora was before she had ISSUES with the man in her life.

The steel garage door bursts open like a small explosion had been on the other side. The traps that had been set up, are knocked aside like fired leaves.

What is standing there is a ghost in the form of an OL with shock white hair and her eyes are pure white orbs with small black veins in them. She has no body beyond her legs and her hands have the skin stretched so tight on them that the tips of her fingers have ripped through showing the pointed bone.

She floats towards you, and with a bat of her hand she knocks YOMI-1 out of the way. It slides across the floor the same way you'd kick a chair to the side.

"So...what's her thing? More flying crap? Weaponized fruit topping? Rubella?" Sato asks. Akira stares open mouthed.

"She scalps people." Star says.

"Oh lovely, axe, knife?" Sato says.

The woman chuckles and does a formal bow herself. "Such manners from youhei. I am the Lady Oiwa. Or a shadow of herself, at least. You could call me a Ghost of a Ghost."

"So what do you plan to accomplish?"

She shrugs. "Oiwa is no longer a sane being. Years of torment and hate, not to mention how I am still being filled with Edo's spiritual refuse. Just as my 'sisters' or 'children', or whatever you wish to call them...just as they behave as wild animals, so does Oiwa. She will thrash in her cage and seek nourishment, freedom, and the release that comes with a kill. I, myself, just have the ability for these first few nights to speak to those that have my interest."

"So do the Gentleman's Club have your interest as well?" You ask.

She nods. "I Cannot Speak Of Them. But I think of those who put bridles on beasts they cannot ride. Yet, I Cannot Speak Of Them. Do you understand?"

Sato nods. "Okay, I think I get it. Is there anything you can do? That you can warn us of? Or to help save lives through the Hundred Lunar Nights?"

"Of what? You speak as if I am unaware of what Oiwa does, or find it repellant. This is just. Edo has sown wickedness for ages, and now they are surprised at what comes to fruit?" She shrugs. "The ones that bridle wild animals will be trampled, and Edo's rot will choke on itself, and perhaps I will find solace when the voices are silenced."

"So you're here playing Bond Villain." Star says. "Trying to scare us. Why?"

"Mostly I am just starved for conversation." The Ghost of the Ghost says.

"These other Mikos that have fought you," Akira asks. "How much damage did they do? How successful were they?"

"Some have had more successful exorcisms, and some have saved more lives." Oiwa says. "But you have done much in such a brief time."

> Your last question before dawn?
>>
>>28996171
You need a large ritual apparatus to use souls. New York City was built entirely for that purpose by Ivo Shandor and his Tycoon cultists. The only known uses for them was the creation, summoning, or empowering of gods and wizards. And it was a process that took decades and many complicated minor rituals.

Emotional and belief PKE from the living is far more practical.
>>
>>28996198
"Little does anyone outside of the Adeptus Mechanicus know, but Psychic Hoods are mostly composed of aluminium in the Imperium of Man. They are based off an ancient, pre-STC design attributed to a certain "Daisuke [last name illegible], Ghostbusters Japan-branch".

It is said that the Emperor laughed himself silly when he learnt of it. "
>>
>>28996171
I'm pretty sure that's a giant can of big wriggling ethical implications we don't want to be opening any time soon.
>>
>>28996254
"Mind you tell us how to end your reign of terror once and for all, and get you back to resting in peace or whatever?

While definitely not preferable, cryptic riddles are acceptable."
>>
>>28996254
Is there a way to appease Oiwa WITHOUT people dying, by any chance?
>>
>>28996254
You sound bored. You know, you don't have to actively help us but why not stick around? Watch the fun and all.

I can't promise were good company, but who knows you might enjoy what you see, in or out of the battlefield. The world has changed in the last few centuries.
>>
>>28996254
Aw crap, she's talking in capitalized words...alright, we obviously have no idea what she specificly Can and Can Not talk about, so;

>What Can you tell us to help save as many lives and souls as possible?
>>
>>28996363
She sees everything through the spiritual refuse.

I think that's why she's pretty cool with what she does.
>>
>>28996254
What can we do to gain your aid?
>>
>>28996363
I wouldn't mind more ghost company but I'd love to see the look on Akira's face
>>
>>28996392
She just said she's cool with killing people, not exactly remorseful.
>>
>>28996410
You can see something without experiencing or understanding it.

I don't know. It probably doesn't apply to her, but I'd sure like to learn of the world 500 years from the future by hanging around people living in it.
>>
>>28996254
So is this nightmare going to be more apocalyptic than normal, or is this pretty much routine for you by now?
>>
>>28996254
Any tip about Things to Come?
>>
>>28996363
"I mean, have you ever seen a fight between Oiwa and exorcists from the exorcists perspective?"
>>
"Is there anything we can do to appease you, or stop your wrath?" You ask.

She narrows her eyes. "Return to me my face, and I shall rest in peace."

The sky brightens and you know that dawn has broken. Oiwa vanishes, as if she wasn't there.

"Well, that's predictably cryptic." Star says.

"At least we've got something." Sato says.

"Ninety-nine nights left to go." Akira says.

"You think we could just pay for plastic surgery?" You ask,

I'd listen the fuck out of Kicktop Spiritual.
>>
>>28996636
It's probably not just a fancy way of saying "never", right?

Like "when the sun burns out" or "the last trumpet calls"
>>
>>28996636
>Return to me my face
Oh great. So either we're looking for a shriveled mummy face, a mask, or something more symbolic.
>>
>>28996707
>symbolic
What was that thing ancients said about losing face?
>>
>>28996751
Keep a stiff upper lip, your eyes peeled, don't let a cat get your tongue, and give the other cheek.

Let's go find that mummy mask!

You shagged the huntress, Question.
Opinion invalidated

>symbolic

Maybe justice/revenge/confession against the next of kin.
Or she's just saying "the only way to stop it is undoing it before it happens"?
>>
>>28996919
Completely rational. After all, you have the facts, and I have her. Most people would lash out without the mint-control in the cookies, much less with them.
>>
>>28996938
Maybe we misinterpreted a pause.
"Return to me, my face, and I shall rest in peace"

what if we're part of the story and her herald or something? The one responsible for her rise and the face to be blamed for destruction?

I hope she just wants her actual face back.

NEXT EPISODE: BONE-BREAKER BREAKER 1 20!

"We need to get them here."
"What's wrong with the temple across the street?"
"It doesn't have the right bell, and doesn't the priestess hate you?"
"So she shoots an occasional arrow at us time and again. No big deal."
"She's written death threats on the arrows."

"Akira, are you sure you can drive this?"
"It's got a steering wheel, gearshift, and pedals. I'll figure it out."
"Yes, but YOMI-1 doesn't have the power to wipe of five lanes of traffic without you even trying."
"You haven't SEEN me try to take out traffic."

"Holy...they're only supposed to be on battlefields or where lots of bodies have been improperly buried!"
"Star...think about it...train tracks...train delays. I think we should count ourselves lucky that the O-dokuro is ONLY that big!"

"Well, I suppose we can't really call ourselves official Ghostbusters until we've done at least one Giant Horror."
"True, so...what's the plan?"
"I vote we hit it with the truck."
"The truck we're CURRENTLY inside?"
"Physics supports the plan!"
"Physics also will support the crushing death that will soon follow!"

>we are the BBEG
I would eat 10 hats and my sides would cause total protonic reversal
>>
>>28997020
>"She's written death threats on the arrows."
Everybody's making a fuss.
>>
>>28997046
Well, Yumi is STILL mooching off of her. She's a little cranky.

So, do you guys really want to try for Sana, or Sachiko, or would you rather not have any romance at all?
>>
>>28997020
>"She's written death threats on the arrows."

You know, at this point I'm almost tempted to leave a whole big bundle of miko-fetish hentai on her doorstep just to hear the scream.
>>
>>28997098
Or Star or Nurse Reika (she'll get properly introduced next ep)
>>
>>28997098
Honestly, no romance sounds like it would be my sort of thing for this quest.
>>
>>28997020
>O-dokuro

The ride never ends.

>Romance
I don't mind but It'd take from ghostbusting, maybe.
>>
>>28997098
Personally, while maybe not as a romance option, I wouldn't mind Yurei getting more screen time. She's been more of a tool than a character the last few eps.
>>
>>28997098
I don't have a thing against it, but I can see it getting in the way or distracting.
Leaving it ambiguous up until the very end would be best.
>>
>>28997104
Convince Sato to do that. That way we can defend her honoru in order for her to become our romantic interest. Because there's nothing more hot than a girl who's tsundere/yandere.
>>
>>28997098
Well. Personally, I've little to no opinions.

But I feel that a quiet romance in the background would not detract, but in fact add, to the quest.

Just leave it out of player choices beyond who Daisuke would pursue and have it play out with little mentions, acts and moments.
>>
>>28997143
To be fair, so was slimer for the most part. Plus both of them can't speak.
Everyone has their moment in the spotlight, like the pylons.

Still, I can see her being more active.
>>
>>28997170
Okay, we'll go with it in the background, if any at all, but 'Busting is going to be the main focus of the rp. Got it.
>>
>>28997170
See but leaving it up to the players choices on who he would pursue could be somewhat bothersome at best, a can of worms at worst.

Fight the war first, and when victory is won well know which woman we fought for. If any.
>>
>>28997224
Ah, but there are already marks and interests being forged. Personally, I'd go with the preferences stated earlier in the thread.

I think touching moments during the war would be interesting.

>>28997212
I'm glad my opinion was so valued.
>>
>>28997170
I'd say just have it happen regardless.

Like if you tell /tg/ who their girlfriend is, they're not gonna go "nuh-uh", they'll stick with it.

Even make fumbling attempts at being a good boyfriend.
>>
>>28997292
Which is why I'd go with the stated preference for Sana, interests in Sachiko be damned.

Either would be interesting, but the IC stated interest does make the choice easier.
>>
>>28997357
To be honest, I'd rather just not make any conscious decisions on romance at all, and just have whatever the QM finds most entertaining happen.
>>
>>28997452
Seconded.
