You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

You arise to a new day in Kitten’s dorm. You would have been in your dorm but a somewhat bad attempt at cooking has belayed that. You simply stretch as you stand up, then head over to the shower. You disrobe then head into the shower, and find that it’s already nice and warm.

Mostly because Kitten’s already using it.

“Morning, Kitten,” you say, groggily.

Kitten looks up at you, confused. “You ever consider that showering with someone else in the morning isn’t normal behavior?”

“I’m not a normal person.”

Kitten grunts, then simply turns away and says, “Fine, whatever. Get my back will you?”

After a nice scrubbing and washing of each other’s bodies, you and Kitten proceed on with getting dressed for the day. You look over at Kitten as she buttons up her shirt, taking in the disappearing amount of cleavage. Curiously, you say, “Where’d you get that ID badge?”

She holds it up, showing a picture of herself and what appears to be… security clearance? She says, “My Radio Operation classes means I have to visit the Bridge along with the Radio Ops rooms from time to time apparently. They gave me this the first day.”

You nod. “Cool, so do they-“

“No, there are no aliens on the bridge.”

Well, that’s disappointing.

A knock comes at the door. “President, you ready for school?”

“We’re coming, we’re coming.” You yawn, opening up the door and seeing your staff. “Bright and early to you, girls.”

Nancy nods, energetic as ever. “Morning! Shall we get this show on the road?”

“Yeah, let’s go.”

All five of you exit the dorms to a nice sunny day. Now that you think about it, you don’t actually know where Lafayette Girls Academy is headed at the moment. Then again that’d require checking in with Fredendall. Nevermind that stuff.

Kitten yawns. “Good Christ, do you guys really get up this early every day?”

Lisa says, “Suck it up, it’s only 7 in the morning. Kindergartners get up earlier than this.”

“Eh…” Kitten slouches in step, eliciting a chuckle from you. “This sucks.”

“Has Fredendall picked our newest destination yet?”

Nancy shrugs. “She doesn’t communicate with the other councils usually. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Cherbourg, would give us all a chance to visit France.”

Ramirez says, “I like France.”

“Indeed,” you say. “I happen to be learning French myself! But anyway, hopefully Fredendall at least tells us something, you know? This grudge match between us is getting a bit childish.”

Lisa says, “Well she’s a Senior. Senior’s always think they’re right, you know?”

“That figures.” You scratch your chin. “Still, if she’s funding our Recall Election opponent when it comes up, who knows what could happen.”

Nancy gasps. “You could get run of the school on a rail!”

“What?” you ask.

Lisa snaps her finger. “It’s school tradition for Recall Elections. The loser gets run out of the campus on a rail.”

“What the fuck kind of tradition is that?”

“This school was founded in the ‘30s, what did you expect?”

Nancy grunts. “But anyway, that’s not going to happen to you. Right?”

“Of course not! No Freshmen are gonna run me out of the campus on a rail. I ain’t British or anything!”

Lisa asks, “What does that have to do with being British?”

“Nothing, but the point is, it’s not going to happen.”

Nancy nods. “If you say so, it is so then, President!” She claps her hands. “Though, I will feel sorry for your opponent, that is a terrible thing.”

“Them or us, Nancy,” you say. “Anyway, we’re not even sure if the Recalls are a sure thing at the moment. For all we know, the Newspaper is just grasping at straws and speculating like those sensationalist news people.”

Lisa says, “Well, I do think you’re simplifying things a bit. Recalls are a big thing, they rarely if ever happen. And you did win last year’s election by a 2% margin.”

You snap your fingers, grinning. “Only because I wasn’t trying.”

Lisa rolls her eyes, “I can’t imagine what would happen if you DID.”

With that, you arrive on the campus with time to spare before class. What shall you do now?

With that in mind, you head to the Library and crack open Anyone Can Cook at a quiet table. You go through the contents, most simple recipes but also safe and good techniques on the fundamentals of cooking. Thanks to the quiet atmosphere of the Library, you are able to take in more than you think you could otherwise.

Hopefully this at least means you can cook better.

> Anyone Can Cook: Progress: 20%

You yawn, bookmarking the page then setting it down. You look around the Library and find nobody familiar. There doesn’t seem to be any decent books to rent either as well. That’s a damn shame.

However, you’re about to leave when you see who else but Loretta Niven. You wave, “Hey there, Niven!”

“So, what’s up, Niven?” You stand next to her as she browses books. She simply shrugs, grunting in response. “Find any new books?”

She holds up her latest book. Robur the Conquerer. You say, “Cool. Jules Verne?” She nods. You continue, “You know, my French teacher makes it extra credit to read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the original French text. Not gonna do that I don’t think because from what I read, it’s mostly marine biology stuff.”

Niven shrugs, apparently in agreement. However, she says, “It’s good.”

You nod. “It is good.” You check the time. “Whoopsie, almost time for class. I’ll see you later, Niven.” You quickly turn around and start walking away, but then you turn back to Niven and say, “Hey, you know. Tankery stuff. If you’re interested. It’s today!”

She shrugs. “I’ll think about it.” She sure shrugs a lot.

Whatever, it’s time for Math class. You put your completed Math Homework down on the Professor’s desk along with everyone else, then proceed to space out for the rest of the lesson.

English class is relatively the same as well. Not much to learn other than another read-through of Le Mort D’Arthur or as the Professor calls it, “Fanfiction.” Still an interesting read and your attention is kept through as everyone in the class takes turns reading through it.

Chemistry however is a bit of a different story. “Pop Quiz!”

Ah shit. If there was any mistake you made in Chemistry, it was not sitting next to one of the Asian kids, racist as it sounds.

>>

Whatever, you’re going to try on this one at least. It’s not like you’re going to fail Chemistry if you fail this pop quiz.

You might, but that’s not the point.

Anyway, you get on to it. You focus hard on each problem, mostly dealing with proper atomic numbers, placement of the various parts of the atoms, and how many electrons each kind of element has. This isn’t new stuff mind you, it’s just incredibly mind-boggling to get through. With each passing question, you feel more of your mind start giving up.

It finally gives up on you on the last question, which is mostly dealing with what atomic number represents. You shrug, fuck it, you write down “Protons” and turn in the Quiz. With the Pop Quiz done, it’s back to lecture.

“What’s up, Principal Tennyson?”

“Gertrude, good to hear from you. Just calling to let you know on the whole issue of Tankery using the Sportsfield and the Sports Warehouse.”

“Oh, how’d that go?”

“Well, long story short, it’s now the property of the recently revived Sports Program, which unfortunately they have elected to leave Tankery out of.”

“Ah. That’s bad.”

“Indeed, but, I have secured a new place for you all to practice Tankery. A very generous farmer by the name of Gregor has offered up his fields for Tankery, free of cost.”

“Really?... is there a catch?”

“It’s on the stern end of the ship plus there’s no actual place to store the tanks so they’re going to have to sit outside.”

“Ah, well. Okay, Principal Tennyson.”

“Right, anyway, go ahead and drive up there afterschool, the tanks are still in the Warehouse.”

“Got it, thanks, Principal Tennyson.”

In the midst of that conversation, you’ve managed to secure your lunch. Rice curry with pork with a side of orange slices and milk. You sit down next to Nancy and across from Lisa and Ramirez. Still no Kitten for today. Eh.

“So, did you guys see what was up for sale today?”

Lisa nods, cringing at the taste of the curry. She swallows, then says, “A couple of Argentinean tanks along with the SU-76B, an M3 Lee, and an Elefant tank. Decent prices on most of them but I’m still a bit iffy on distinguishing tank from tank.”

Nancy says, “Well the SU-76 has an excellent service record in the war, mostly as Infantry support but the 76.2 ZiS-3 gun can pack a real punch. Not to mention the incredibly low ground pressure, the SU-76 is at home in swamps and such.” She taps her chin a bit, pensive. “Though, I do like the Elefant tank, if only for its reputation. Have you ever seen an Elefant tank in person, President?”

You nod. “NOVA Tank Museum had one, a Ferdinand they called it.”

“Well the Elefant tanks were a bit unreliable, a common problem with the Schwerer Panzerjager program.” She says, “Elefant tanks at the Battle of Kursk were often defeated by either mechanical breakdown or the fact that they lacked a hull machine gun, letting the Infantry just walk right up and stick bombs on them.”

Lisa nods. “Nancy, I gotta say. I never thought of you as a Tank kind of person.”

Nancy blushes, slapping her hands on her cheeks. “Oh! Stop it! I never realized how so lovely tanks were! You guys want to know what my favorite tank is?”

You blink, chuckling. “What is it?”

“The Renault FT!”

Ramirez says, “I don’t follow.”

Nancy says, “It’s so cute! Not to mention it was revolutionary for its time! Forward crew compartment, rear engine configuration, tracks that didn’t go all the way around the tank! A single turret!” She laughs.

Lisa says, bluntly, “Isn’t it kind of crap though?”

Nancy nods. “It is, but still.”

You nod. “I see, you don’t have a lot of free time?”

She shakes her head. “Not really. Beyond volunteering at the Church and the Old Folks home, plus four hours of studying.”

“… You study for four hours?”

Lisa asks you, “You don’t?”

You shake your head. “I can’t imagine studying for four hours, that’s insane!” You suddenly remember something. “Oh yeah, speaking of which. Principal Tennyson got us a new field to work with on one of the farms.”

Lisa says, “Really? Is it free?”

“Free of charge, but there’s no real way to store the tanks. And I don’t know if Naval Studies would let us do it or not.”

“Alright, ramblers, let’s get rambling.”

You get to leading the Freshmen class in simple basic stretching exercises. They all follow your lead as you go through sit-ups, leg raises, squats, and the much dread burpee. By the time you’re all finished, you’ve barely broken a sweat while the Freshmen all look like they’ve just run a marathon.

Whatever. You also lead them in some laps around the gym.

“Come on, girls, pain is weakness leaving the body!” you shout. They all push themselves in running, a few backing out to get some water or in one case to vomit. “Hey, how about a song? I’ll lead, come on!” With that, in order to get their spirits up, you decide on a song.

I thought I heard the Old Man say:
“Leave her, Johnny, leave her.”
Tomorrow you will get your pay,
And its time for us to leave her.

“Come on! Sing along!”

With that, a few tired Freshmen who actually know the song join you.

Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her!
For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow
And it's time for us to leave her.

With that, the rest of the freshmen start breaking into the song.

I hate to sail on this rotten tub.
"Leave her, Johnny, leave her!"
No grog allowed and rotten grub.
And it's time for us to leave her.

Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her!
For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow
And it's time for us to leave her.

Whoop, time for History class. You bid Hanna and Grant farewell and head on to History class. Unfortunately for you, the Professor has not finished grading all the papers yet, but its understandable considering how many students go to this Academy. Regardless, you’re left with a continuation of the Documentary from yesterday.

Once it’s done, Theatre class is on as well. More talk of how to properly draw curtains, how lighting affects moods on stage, and how to properly project your voice through the theatre. You think yourself good at projection, you are a Class President after all. Gotta be loud to be heard.

With that, French Class also comes and goes. That Quiz today turned out simple enough thanks to you studying yesterday, and you can absolutely feel it to be an A next time you come back to class.

With that. Classes are over for the day. Practice is coming.

You gesture to the row of tanks. “So, Wendy, what do you think?”

Wendy places her hands on her hips, exhaling. She walks up to your Sherman, now an M4A1 with a 76mm Gun, cast hull, and wet stowage for the ammunition. She looks down at the suspension of the tracks. “This sucks.”

“Huh?”

She points to the suspension. “You’re still using the VVSS, you need to improve that. Get yourself HVSS.” Without a second thought, she walks away over to the Panther tank. “An Ausf. D Panther?”

You nod. “Yeah.”

“Total shit. Final drive fails if you so much as sneeze at it. I’m sure you noticed that the engine sounds like a dying animal.” She moves on to the KV-1S. “A KV-1S? Are you fucking serious?”

You nod again, frowning. “It was one of the first tanks we acquired.”

“Again, total shit. What you’ve got with the KV-1S is basically a dumber KV-1 with reduced armor and supposed “enhanced” mobility.” She moves on to the M5A1 Stuart. “Paper thin armor and a peashooter for a gun, but I can respect the Stuart at least.”

As Wendy eyeballs all the tanks up and down, your crew starts gathering around curiously. Luciano asks, “Who’s this fucking nerd?”

“A Sentinel Tank. Good Christ.” She shakes her head. “An S35, fucking one of the few good French tanks but it’s still underpowered.”

Luciano walks up to Wendy. “Hang on,” she says, “How do you know all this shit? I mean, our Panther’s huge. Biggest and baddest thing here!”

Wendy looks over at Luciano, sizing her up briefly, then walks back over to the Panther. She knocks on the side of the hull. “You hear that? That’s the sound of 40mm of armor that can be penetrated by anything bigger than 37mm gun.”

Luciano scoffs. “Whatever.”

With that, Wendy moves on to the Churchill. “Now, Churchill’s a good tank, especially the Mark IV model. That thing can climb hills and go through most obstacles but it takes years to do it. The 6 Pounder will get you places at least against most tanks if they don’t just dance around you.”

Marina raises her hand. “Wait, what’s wrong with our KV-1S?”

“The KV-1S is a heavy tank that had the armor reduced to make it faster. In essence, you gave up what makes it a heavy tank. The stock KV-1 isn’t a particularly good heavy mind you, but the KV-1S,” she shakes her head. “You need to upgrade that thing and fast because I’m going to be completely honest with you, it’s a total piece of shit.”

She then points to the StuG and the Panzer IV. “Those two are perfectly good tanks and yet you don’t have crews in them. What’s even worse is that they’re the incredibly underpowered early war versions with the stubby 75mm KwK 37 L/24.”

Octavia says, “Now, come on, Wendy. They’re a new team, maybe you should cut them some slack.”

Wendy looks over at Octavia. “I’ll cut them some slack when they start learning that it’s not about having the biggest gun or the best tank.” She walks up to and glares a hole right through you. “I’m going to be very straight with you. Your line up is shit.”

Everyone murmurs a little at that, apparently concerned.

“Well, Wendy, that’s a bit of an ego-shattering thing, but I’m willing to listen. How can I improve here?”

Wendy waves her hand over all the tanks. “You see all those tanks? You’ve done nothing to modify them in anyway. And don’t give me that, ‘It’s too expensive,’ bullshit because you can get a decent appliqué armor kit and some spaced armor for a little under 8,000 dollars and you’ve somehow got a Pershing that isn’t Tankery Legal.”

She continues with, “And not only that, but on a field of battle, this line up is going to be incredibly finicky to work with. You’ve got a couple of mediums, a heavy that’s more of a medium, another heavy, a few light tanks, and two perfectly good tanks sitting it out.” She places her hands on her hips, sighing. “And don’t give me that bullshit with, ‘Ooarai did it with a worse line up’, you’re just an amateur. They had one of the best Tankery commanders of the sport leading them.”

Octavia says, “Well. Wendy, come on. They just want to have fun. It’s not like there’s anything big on the line here.”

Haha, yeah, nothing too big. You cough a little.

The tanks follow Dubois’ Sheridan on the road to the Fields. The two Aces ride atop your Sherman’s engine block, leaning against the turret. With that in mind, you decide to at least strike up conversation with Wendy.

“Hey, Wendy! You at least excited for practice?”

“No.”

Well, that’s disappointing. You say, “Why are you even here if you don’t like our line-up anyway?”

Wendy says, “I’m here because I pitied you. I still am.”

“Well,” you say, “Think of it like this, we do need to win the Tournament. We could use all the help we can get! Can you at least help us, Wendy?”

Wendy crosses her arms. “I’m not a miracle worker.”

“So is that a yes?”

You arrive in the fields. All the tanks pull over to the side of the road then orient facing outwards into the fields themselves. You dismount and meet up with Dubois and the owner of the fields, Mr. Gregor.

He says, “Right, y’all can use these fields to your pleasure. Just don’t be blowing anything that looks manmade up.”

You nod. “Thanks, Mr. Gregor.”

Where shall you start?

If we're going to get anywhere, we're going to need crews, and we're going to need to get them good and keep them good. If we want to do that, we need them to work well together. Morale is a finite resource, and Wendy is detrimental to it. Having one single Ace crew is not worth having to juggle playing peacemaker when it brings all the other crews down, especially not when we have less than half of said crew on board with the program.

Also, what has she told us that we didn't already know?
The Stuart has weak armor? No shit, it's a light.
The Ausf. D Panther is a poor model? We knew that from the time it started.
The Sentinel is... what, exactly?
The Souma is underpowered? The crew had already admitted that.
The Pershing was a poor idea? Stop the fucking presses.

This girl is not worth the trouble she's going to bring. Either shut her out, or shut her up.
>>
>>28989494
Chill out and let her be. We need her.
>>
>>28989494
The problem is, IC nobody knows shit about tanks aside from what can be gleaned from wikipedia. We need every experienced crewwoman we can get and Dubois is not going to be around forever.

Also, the team needs to come to grips with the fact that Tankery is not a game, but a competition. Its like boot camp. Sure morale takes a hit early on but it ends up being better in the long run.
>>
>>28989494
Nothing truly awful has happened yet so I don't mind keeping her on. Plus she's gotten most of the criticism out of the way. What else can she complain about now? It'll be the same argument so just tune her out.

In any case, we've already gotten 3/5 aces. We're already in so we might as well keep going.
>>
>>28989494

I have to agree with this. If Wendy is not going to do anything other then make obvious critical remarks and bring the morale of our team down she can fuck off.
>>
> Maneuvering Practice

You bump your head on the hatch again, eliciting another pained yell. The first thing you found out about farm fields is that they’re not as flat as you thought they were. It’s in fact kind of like riding waves, except you’re in a tank and like what Wendy says, you probably should improve the suspension somewhat.

You turn out and look out the rest of the tanks in line with you. Dubois, along with the Aces, stand by the road looking at you as you drive along down the field.

“Freeze!”

The tanks brake to a halt, except for the Panther more or less crawls to a halt.

Dubois orders again, “Alright, go!” The tanks start up again, right before Dubois again shouts, “Freeze!” causing them all to stop again. “Reverse!” The tanks start rolling backwards.

“Freeze!”

The tanks all stop again, except for the Panther which keeps on going. “Luciano! I said Freeze!”

“The clutch is stuck!” The Panther proceeds to back up, then of all things, the engine starts smoking. The Panther finally stops when the engine gives out on them.

You rub the bridge of your nose. That’s gonna take some fixing.

All of you sit down in the shade of the Churchill or on top of it as Dubois starts going over her latest lesson, mostly review of what you learned last week. Everyone continues taking notes, except for the Delinquents of course but you at least expected that.

On your position on top of the Churchill, you take down the notes.

“… now Nancy tells me that Kursk GB School deals heavily with tank destroyers and ambush tactics. They’re not wrong mind you, it’s a very effective thing.” She draws on the portable whiteboard a red line. “Say you have the first line here, this is where you place your lighter more faster tanks. For Kursk that’d be the SU-76 and the SU-85.” She draws a blue line further back. “This is where the less mobile but more powerful stuff is, the ISU-152 and ISU-122s. This is a simple multi-tiered ambush.”

“Simply put, you get yourself caught in the SU-76 where you’re bound to lose a few tanks or two. If you respond by say, trying to flank or trying to charge outright, they’re not going to oblige you. The first line’s job is to get your attention then move to the safety of the second line, where upon the enemy can engage you in greater force.”

Anna raises your hand. “How does one counter it?”

“By not falling for it,” says Dubois. “Simply put, ambush tactics require a great knowledge of the terrain, always keep your maps ready in case you’re caught and make sure you examine the terrain to know, ‘Where would I be?’”

You look back for a moment, then see Wendy herself, alone working on the Panther’s engine. She actually looks incredibly at home, having shed her Naval Studies jacket for her white tanktop, apparently getting to work on the Panther’s ventilation problem as she described it. You smirk a little at that, mostly because you didn’t ask her to do it, she just did it.

“So, the important part of Command isn’t just learning how to do fancy tricks, but learning how to coordinate with other members of your team,” says Dubois.

“Why are we doing this fall-catch exercise thing?” asks Luciano.

Dubois shrugs. “Because I couldn’t think of anything better. But think of it like this, there’s an inherent amount of trust you have to put into your fellow crewmembers and your fellow tank commanders. If you can’t rely on them, you’re not an effective team.”

With that, all the tank commanders have been paired up. You are with Anna. Cathy with Luciano, Samantha with Francis, and Janek with Marina.

“Right, fall.”

You catch Anna deftly as she falls. Everyone also catches their falling partners. “Right, see? You all trust each other now!” says Dubois as she walks over to the whiteboard. You all recover then pay attention. “Now, pay attention,” she points to you in particular. “You in particular, Gertrude. You might want to pay attention for this.”

“Alright, you can fire when ready.”

Ramirez loads in the new round with the correct technique that Wendy showed all the other loaders beforehand. You look through the periscope and see the targets set up, more cardboard Valiants but set at different ranges.

“Right, we’ll do this gradually. Nancy, target the closest ones first, same as everyone else.”

“Alright,” says Nancy as she begins adjusting her aim. “Ready… now.”

“Fire!”

The new 76mm gun booms as the round flies and rips the cardboard tank in two.

“Load,” you say. Ramirez quickly picks up a new round and pushes it into the breech. “And firing.”

The gun fires again, hitting the next further target.

“Good shot,” you say. Nancy claps happily. “Nancy, we’ll make an ace gunner out of you yet.”

With all the practice areas covered, Practice is over. The tanks are all set up in the shadow of an old rotting barn then left there. Mr. Gregor reassures you, “Don’t worry. Dogs are on guard.”

You cross your arms as you all wait for a chartered bus to arrive.

“How you doing Wendy?”

Wendy shrugs. She’s covered in grease stains after working with the Panther’s finicky engine, and her Naval jacket has been thrown over her shoulder. She says, “Could be worse. Like I said, the Panther’s a very finicky thing to work with but if you can take care of it, it’s a good medium tank. Same with the Sherman.”

You nod. “I’ll keep that in mind.” You suddenly get an idea. “You know, we got some tanks in the shop waiting for purchase. Want to see?” You pull up your smartphone and pull up Tankslist.

Wendy wipes some grease off her cheek, then her eyes widen. “Is that- They have an SU-76B! And only for a few thousand dollars! Oh my god,“ Her dreary demeanor has suddenly turned. “You need to buy that. Buy it.”

Octavia says, “Hold on. You can’t possibly be recommending the SU-76. The armor’s paper thing and the gun is only adequate.”

Wendy looks over at her. “Are you fucking retarded? Low ground pressure, good speed, the armament is only adequate but it can take on Tigers with the right kind of rounds, not to mention-“

“Whoa- hang on, Wendy. I mean, there’s a perfectly good Nahuel. A Sherman contemporary, it’s got 80mm of armor and a 75mm gun, that’s miles better than the SU-76.”

“Are you seriously considering an Argentinean tank over the SU-76?”

Octavia scoffs. “You calling me stupid? Wendy, you’re the kind of person who would think that the Excelsior tank, if it ever saw combat, would be a good tank!”

“Well what if it did!?”

You stand there, bemused as the Aces start arguing over and over on a tank that you know nothing about. It’s kind of like watching Top Gear. With that, the Bus arrives, and you all board. You collapse in your seat next to Kitten, groaning. She’s busy on her DS. “Hey, Kitten, how you doing?”

I'd prefer to give everyone a morale boost.

We should give everyone's tanks an applique armor upgrade. It'll be cheaper than the panther upgrade and this way everyone gets something and feels a bit better about the situation.

“Actually, I am. Do tell.”

“Alright, fine,” Kitten shuts her DS down and pockets it. “So, I’m in Radio Operations class today, right? And the Instructor is telling us how to switch to different frequencies, how to efficiently do it and stuff like that. And he’s going on and on about it, waving his pipe around.”

“He smokes a pipe?”

“Sure does, apparently he has tenure. But anyway, he apparently forgot he had his pipe out because when he turns around, he puts the entire thing in his backpocket.”

You look confused. “What?”

Kitten shakes her head. “Not even joking, a couple of minutes later, his pants were on fire.”

“What!? Is he okay? What happen?”

Kitten says, “Nobody thought to tell him until a passing Naval Studies kid, I think it was Slade from Engineering, walked by, pointed to his pants, and said, ‘Shit’s on fire, yo.’”

You wheeze out a laugh. “Oh god! And what happen next?”

Kitten smiles, “Well, standard protocol is to break out the Fire Blankets and smother him, so that’s what we did. Broke out the fire extinguishers for good measure too.”

“Oh Jesus, and I’m guessing class got cancelled?”

Kitten nods. “For today, yes. Spent the rest of the day goofing off. Sewing Club came by to visit of course but nothing special happened.”

You whistle. “Jesus Christ.”

The Bus arrives at the Sophomore dorms, and all the Sophomores dismount.

You collapse on Kitten’s bed, bra already unclipped and blazer thrown on the ground. You yawn as you say, “Make me some dinner, would you kindly?”

“Yeah, yeah,” says Kitten as she pulls out more instant noodles for dinner.

You roll over and pull out one of Kitten’s Doc Savage comics and begin reading through it. You sniff a bit of that fresh instant noodle scene as it becomes more and more ready for consumption.

Kitten sits down next to you on the bed and turns on the TV. She also sets your bowl down on the floor, just out of you reach. You drop the comic book down and start flailing desperately at it. “Agh! Goddamn it! Why’d you put it there!?”

“Because I don’t want you spilling your noodles all over me.”

“Eh, that’s a fair point.” You worm your way down, to the bowl then start consuming.

You slurp up your noodles loudly. “So, Kitten. Besides your little incident with the Professor, is Radio Ops a cool class? Meet anyone at least?”

“It is, you get to learn a few things, plus I’m getting better at actual Radio Operations. As for meeting new people, I haven’t really talked to anyone unless it’s necessary.”

You pout. “Oh, you poor thing.”

“There is that one girl, you know Loretta Niven?”

“Yeah, Freshmen girl, just talked to her today. If you can call it talking.”

Kitten nods. “Stutters like a motherfucker. But she reads some cool books, apparently she’s joined the Reading and Writing Club.”

“What do they do in the Reading and Writing Club?” you ask.

“I dunno. Write gay fanfiction maybe.” She scratches her chin. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they ship us.”

You rub your cheek against hers, purring. “Oh… what makes you say that?”

“You gussed it. How much can I get to apply appliqué armor for all of my tanks?”

“Eh, hold on, let me calculate that…” There’s a brief pause as you hear Mr. Mishka apparently tapping away on a calculator. He must be bad at math. “Right. Comes up to 5400 dollars for all of your tanks, including the ones you aren’t using at current.”

Well, since we are at the end of the day in-game, I guess discussions are green lighted now.

This was back when the Tankslist had nothing but Swedish tanks, Octavia recently got on board with us, and the chassis was newly introduced in the shop.

One of the Swedish tanks was pretty much a 38(t) and the first chassis introduced was also such. Octavia recommended we buy it at the time, but we held off from purchasing it.

In GuP verse, Hetzer conversion kits are best sellers, hence why I guess it was featured at that point in the quest.

A balanced team is much more preferable than shoving a huge amount of money at a single tank and praying it doesn't bite it in the first engagement.

>A balanced team is much more preferable than shoving a huge amount of money at a single tank and praying it doesn't bite it in the first engagement.
Fucking this.

on the topic of balanced lineups, that SU-76B looks good, and cheap, plus I'm assuming we can get bigger guns for it later, should we get it when we've got a spare crew?

also on the topic of upgrades, our panthers power pack is shite, and seeing as the tank is actually being used, why not upgrade it to an Ausf. A?

also we should upgrade the suspension on all our tanks

and why does the pershing not show up in the SHOP pastebin for conversion/upgrades when the type 97 does, we've not received delivery of either yet
>>
>>28995072
also on the topic of the yet to be delivered pershing, GS needs to clarify the conversions available for it, the T26E3 is the production version of the T26E1, and the E3 was renamed the M26 when it officially entered combat

soo two of the conversion choices are exactly the same thing...
>>
Do we have any Littlejohn adaptors lying around?
>>
>>28995072
We'll do those upgrades once we have the dough. Right now we have nothing. One reason for the armor upgrade is that we can surprise the teams with it and give a slight morale boost across the board. Its more visible than improved suspension would be, also cheaper.

We want those upgrades, its just that we can't afford a damn thing right now.

>>28995168

>>
>>28995193
>One is attached to the Sentinel Sentinel.

>>
>>28995193

We can hold off on upgrading the Sentinel for a while then, unless we get a 6-pdr. Focus on the other tanks like the panther and etc.

It's not my fault you people don't know shit. /I/ didn't vote to buy the Pershing, but it's like I'm the only one bothering to try and make the fucking best out of it.

just because it's underpowered doesn't make it the shittiest tank in existence, you dumb cunts. Get that into your fucking heads. Research what you're fucking talking about before acting like you know everything about it.

I don't think we should have bought it; we SHOULD NOT HAVE bought it. But now that we have, suck it the fuck up and deal with it. It can play as a good support tank, where it can sit back behind our lines and snipe with its big fuck off gun and its great late war optics package.

what is the shittiest part of buying it, however, is that we don't have a fucking crew, and all our other tanks are fucking shit. We NEED to upgrade our other line up. So that's what we should do, instead of bitching and fucking complaining about a dumb purchase.

so instead of bitching and fucking complaining at me over apurchase you shitheads make, take this fucking advice
Stop bitching and complaining and make the best out of a shitty situation

we need to upgrade our crewed tanks is what we need right now, ESPECIALLY the panther and the KV-1S

and this is just a suggestion, but we might also want to ask our current crews whether any of them feel like switching tanks. We have an unmanned Pz. IV sitting around if anyone wants it. Does anyone want it? Next practice, we should put it out as a suggestion.
>>
>>28995774
>I don't think we should have bought it; we SHOULD NOT HAVE bought it.
Oh very much so, if only because the whole cost of getting the thing in a match is not worth the 33k we paid for it, more like 50k after conversion with a new gun and suspension/armor/powerpack upgrades
>>
>>28995856
Oh, I agree entirely, it was a complete waste of money. I wasn't around when the vote to buy it came up, timezones and shit.

Now that we have it, though, complaining about it ain't gonna get us shit. So keep calm and carry on, cunts, we CAN make use of it some day.
>>
>>28995915
well we still don't actually have it

and i'm hoping for the shuttle thats transporting it to get blown up by terrorists before we can get it
>>
>>28995941
That a colossal waste of money, unless it was insured.

...Now, we need to upgrade Panther, its unreliable as fuck. But until we have more funds, maybe its better to swap the delinquent to Pz IV, say it just temporary until Panther get upgraded.

With luck when we have fund to upgrade Panther, the Delinquent will get attached to Pz IV and we can give it to other team.

I also against buying more tank for now; upgrade what we have for now and stick with it.
>>
>>28996055
I agree, we've got enough tanks, we need to make them good now
>>
>>28996055
>Upgrade what we have now and stick with it
Yes. We don't need any more tanks. We already have four spares. What we need are more crews and more money to upgrade what we have. And it looks like more crews are going to become less common with the whole smear campaign Senior Bitch has got against us.
>>
>>28996131
...Eh, Aces is only matter of time now.

>>
>>28998049
The Nahuel will be roughly as effective as a 75mm Sherman. No upgrades known for that, though.
The TG-4M42 is a casemate indirect fire vehicle. We don't really like casemates, and I didn't even know arty was Senshado legal. We have no use for it.
>>
>>28998213
There are teams running arty and AAA, so it seems to get weird in this universe.
>>
>>28998249
Closed case arty is fine on tankery. Technically, all SU/ISU assault gun are arty since they also used on indirect fire by Soviet.

>>28998049
As much as i droll for Nahuel, i'd say no for it. Its not upgradeable and its short 75mm will quickly useless on mid-tourney.

Is having multiple of same tanks is no go? like two Pz IV late variant or Shermans? (in case we want to expand our team with more crew.)
>>
>>28998249

It's situational at best, and way too inaccurate to hit things unless used en masse.
I was to make an argument about using them against small units, but apparently the Internationals allow really big numbers.
Still, best use we can give them is to disrupt formations.

>AAA
Unless they're mounting FlaK 88s or equivalents, they're nearly useless. And I don't know of Senshado legal AAA vehicles that can mount FlaK 88s.

welp, time to stir this shitstorm back up

The T54 on the M26E1 was designed off of the T15E1 (both using single piece ammunition) and as such, its construction started before August 15th 1945, sources I can find list the start date of the T15 90mm guns construction as early as November 1944, and seeing as the T54 was a modified T15E1 redesignated as T54 for continued post war development, as far as the rules say, its tankery legal.

The only remaining issue would be the date of the M26E1s design & construction (the important factors, does not matter if it was not completed or trialed, only fully designed and construction had begun using materials available). best sources I can find being mentions of the project in Zaloga's Armored Thunderbolt book say that the M26E1's construction started at the end of, or shortly after June 1945.

The tank is tankery legal.

The way i see it he includes the pershing on store as a mere cameo.

If you feel Schteel insulting us by this Pershing debacle, you are way too sensitive.

ever since it was bought, at every chance hes had the 'smart' tankers laughing at the MC and telling them they're stupid and an idiot for doing it...

and seeing the way he speaks about the players decision regarding it outside of the quest, its fucking clear as day insulting

Before I being, I'd like to say I'm just using Wikipedia for my information so feel free to chuck all my arguments out the window.

Couple of issues here.

As you say, the T54 was derived from the T15E1 but its still technically not the same gun so that raises issues over minor legalities and loopholes.

Another problem is that the tank didn't start prototype trials until after the war ended, (presumably). The other stuff is fine but because of this issue of not having been completed, it falls into this weird grey area where there is no definitive answer.

Honestly? It's so ridiculous that you could hire two lawyers and they'd bitch for months about it. Let Schteel do what he wants.

The actual rules from the book/Encyclopedia say it only has to reach fabrication stage by VJ
>>
>>28998824
>Another problem is that the tank didn't start prototype trials until after the war ended
according to the requirements outlined by the translators of the manga and the offical english rules, trials does not matter, only that the tank/equipment is
- Fully Designed (blueprints and whatnot)
- Construction started before August 15th 1945

and the T54 meets both, the issue of being a 'different' gun from the T15E1 is moot because the only change was in a resized chamber and breach (which were completed before the cut off date) to accept a larger case for the new tungsten cored HVAP 90mm ammo (also completed before the cut off date)

and the mount for the gun, the T123 was designed, completed and mounted on a M26 before the cut off

while the rules wording gets a little muddy in some areas, its pretty clear that the gun, the mount and the tank are legal to use
>>
>>28998824
>Let Schteel do what he wants.
Continue insulting the players?

>>28998868
I'll also add that the bore evacuator and muzzle break used on the first T54's on the M25E1s and on the M46 & M48 derivative T54s were in production before the cutoff date

But whose fault is that?

We were acting like two parties. On the one hand, we had the mini-dictators who wanted the really big awesome gun because rule of cool even though it was financially impractical and on the other we had the down to earth military types who would have been happy to skip right over it.

Look at the shop right now! There's a Ferdinand sitting there. Sure the tank is good but it would make more sense to buy upgrades for our current tanks rather than get that. And there's still someone who wanted to buy it anyway!

Schteel could have put any late war tank from a Centurion to a T-54 or Object 137 and we'd still have the same problems. I do realise that this means he could just not put those tanks in the shop but I would prefer that realism even if it makes everyone explode in anger.
>>
>>28999020
it also does not help that when the purchase was first decided and when the refund was refused the quest was a at low point in regards to players, and these choices were determined rather fast without serious discussion and most of the participants involved
>>
>>28999020
We need big guns, there's no way around it. If we want to beat the bigger schools in a fight, we need penetration.
Oorai won because their entire match was based around running from the enemy while protecting their flag and attempting to destroy the enemies. Every match was won by the skin of their teeth.
If the QM decides to make your opponents as smart as you, this tactic will not work, they'll be ready for it after seeing Oorai win with shit tanks.
There is a finite number of tanks you can field, and the top schools are filling the roster with late war tanks that have bigger guns, more armor, and better engines.

At the end of the day Strategy and Tactics will only get you so far. You're still going to need some muscle
>>
>>28999068
At some point we're going to have to sell some of our tanks. The ones that can't be upgraded to be of use.
>>
>>28999084
No doubt. That's why i thought getting a Hetzer was fucking retarded.
That shit is going to be useless late game, unless we're relying on plot armor
>>
>>28999084
yep, mid ITL season I reckon we'll only have 1/2 our original lineup left
>>
>>28999093
Bigger problem is having to retrain the crews on the new tanks and them losing efficiency if they have to think about what they're doing. Better to get good tanks now and not replace them
>>
>>28999068
Of course. But there's a time and place for all that and right now really isn't.

>>28999084
I can agree with that.

>>28999091
Now now. We don't actually know how many big guns we can afford. We might have half our lineup filled with 17 pdrs, 8.8s and larger but we might have only 3 for all we know. It's perfectly acceptable to have some smaller tanks that are still useful even if they need some good tactical ability to maximize their return.
>>
>>28999091
well we werent getting a hetzer, the option was for a 38(t), which, contrary to the anime and manga, cannot be converted into a hetzer, which has a completely different set of dimensions only loosely based on the 38(t)s design
>>
>>28999119
>Now now. We don't actually know how many big guns we can afford. We might have half our lineup filled with 17 pdrs, 8.8s and larger but we might have only 3 for all we know. the hetzer does not fulfil any of those requirements, nor was it a particularly good vehicles, also didn't help that it was one of the most uncomfortable vehicles to use of the war
>>
>>28999129
>well we werent getting a hetzer
We were pretty close to getting it, mostly because Octavia said to get the 38t and people who knew nothing gobbled that shit up
>>
>>28999137
I thought the Hetzer would have been cost effective? I must admit, I can't remember how much the 38t cost and I don't think the conversion cost was listed either.

If it happens to be the case that it wasn't, then feel free to ignore my nonsense. I still maintain we need some cheap but effective tanks though.
>>
>>28999154
the 38t was something like 15k and you CANNOT convert it into a hetzer

also, a tank that is only useful for 2-3 matches before we have to replace it is not cost effective
>>
>>28999107
This, or at least ones we can later upgrade to be competitive against late-game tanks.

The S35, for one. There's nothing else we can do with it.
>>
>>28999154
>I still maintain we need some cheap but effective tanks though.
we do, and we have some sitting on our field, without crews using them, theres also the SU-76B thats cheap and effective, but we need something like 4 new crews to fill out the spare tanks we already have
>>
>>28998645
We can switch the Sewing club to the StuG and sell the S35 for extra dosh.

>>
>>28999183
>I really want the argentitian sherman though....
you don't, its only just comparable to the early war M4 without upgrades/improvements

and it cannot be converted/upgraded/get bigger guns
>>
>>28999160
Wasn't there a prototype tank that upgraded it?

Though for now I think our lineup is fine, we just need to upgrade our equipment
>>
>>28999159
The universe rules state we can so I'll abide by them even if they are nonsensical.

Who said anything about replacing it? It'll still be (somewhat) useful even late in the game.

>>28999163
I know. I'm not saying we need those tanks right now, I'm actually one of the most vocal supporters of the 'upgrade everything' stance. Assuming we go for a full lineup of 20 tanks though, this will probably come up some time sooner or later.

>>28999169
Meh. It still adds to the resale value of the tank.
>>
>>28999163
Yeah. Right now, we should really fokus on getting more crews and upgrade what we've got. When we have more crews than tanks, THEN can we look info buying more. Of course, that requires people to think...
>>
>>28999187
We need to upgrade the cannon to the long 75 though.
>>

>>28999187

>>
>>28999168
StuG and pz.IV still need better guns. They've only got piddly L/24s atm.

What we should do is, next time tankery practice is on, ask the teams if any of them feel like switching tanks after Wendy's spiel.
>>
>>28999202
the L/48? I agree, the L/70, i'd have to check if thats WoT being full of shit again

>>
>>28999234

now the churchill....
>>
>>28999208
>Wendy's spiel
I wonder what she thought of the Tiger's abysmal turret rotation, poor fuel economy, retardo overlapping running wheels, or the poor engine

>>28999215
Don't listen to WoT, it's fucking retarded.
The SPpershing's gun has lower penetration than the Pershing's gun.
The T34 has lower penetration than the T30 even though the reality is the opposite.

>>28999234
Oh fuck, they named their tanks. Now the QM is going to knock their morale down when they're switched.
>>
>>28999240
Wendy actually like the Churchill, so we're not getting rid of it.

Not to mention the Freshmen bonded with that big hunk of metal
>>
>>28999245
>Don't listen to WoT, it's fucking retarded.
Thats why I was saying I'd have to check if any of the StuGs mounted the L/70, I seriously doubt they did
>>
>>28999240
KV-1S and the Churchill are probably our best tanks right now, actually, even if the KV-1S is rather under-protected and the churchill is fucking slow.

>>28999245
In addition to this, WoT told me that the OQF 75mm Mk V makes a good anti-tank gun, when it fucking doesn't.
>>
>>28999245
That's why we keep the Kv-1a and convert it later to a better tank
>>
>>28999249
what i mean is can we upgrade it to BP?

Since if we don't, at most we can upgrade it to Church Mk 7 standard with 75mm.
>>
>>28999240
the 122 on the KV-1S is terrible, and in no way comparable to the IS, put the 85 on the 1S and upgrade its engines and other stuff and it will be a good 2nd line tank
>>
>>28999255
Quick question,

the M3 75mm and the OQF7m are the last guns the later mark churchill uses, are they any good, considering their the latest models?
>>
>>28999273
not really, but they're better than everything else they previously use, the Church is an infantry support tank, and nothing else
>>
>>28999273
I don't understand

what's an M3 75mm, the American 75mm gun? and what's an OQF7m???
>>
>>28999267
but-but KV-1S is OP in tier 6!!!

....just kidding
No, it'll not comparable to proper IS, hence 'Poor man IS'. But its long 122 mm is identical with IS's so at least it'll have same firepower.
>>
>>28999290
Yeah, the 75mm is literally called the M3, I think he means the QF75mm
>>
>>28999290
>what's an M3 75mm, the American 75mm gun? and what's an OQF7m???
yes, and a british gun

the yanks use M for their production designations, OQF is british and stands for Ordinance Quick Firing
>>
>>28999303
Yes, I know this

But what the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>28999290

>>
>>28999311
wut

you are confusing me now, I was clarifying >>28999290
>>
>>28999311
I was wondering if the later versions of the churchill are worth converting later on
>>
>>28999312
The 75mm guns on churchills are better at lobbing HE around than shooting AP at tanks.

Better to stick with the 6pdr, or if it's legal and we can find one, get a 75mm HV.
>>
>>28999329
Could use it as a specialist tank, but that's it really
>>
>>28999329
Unless we can convert it into Black Prince, not really.

75mm on late Churchill is same as 75mm on sherman.
>>
>>28999346
Black Prince might as well be an entirely new tank. The hull was widened to accept a larger turret ring to house whatever gun they put on it
>>
>>28999335
When the time comes let's ask.

Also besides the 75mm what do the later churchill have to offer?
>>
>>28999370
that is it, the only get heavier and heavily armored, but the biggest gun they get is the OQF75mm or MAYBE a vickers 75 HV
>>
>>28999355
Yeah.. i afraid so.

So our best chance is to have 75mm HV... IF its legal which i really doubt.
>>

>>

>>
>>28999530
>.30 cal or 7.62
same thing...
>>
>>28999539
no
.30 cal refers to 7.62x31
7.62 refers (I'm using it) to 7.62x54R the standard Russian Caliber of WWII, it's also closer to .303 than .30
>>
>>28999573
.30cal refers to any round that has a projectile diameter of .30 of an inch, the usage of .30-06 created the term .30cal and anything with a bullet diameter of .30 of an inch has been referred to as .30 cal, on which 7.62x51 AND 7.62x54R are both grouped into

also .303 is referred to as .30cal

please don't go throwing around these non-swappable terms about ballistics without actually knowing the meaning and history of the terms...
