You awaken in your bed this time, Haley’s shirt and pants still tucked up around you. Rubbing the sleep from your eyes delicately, you decide that you’ve still got a lot of work to do in regards to setting up a tankery team despite the massive amounts of work you did yesterday.

You check the time on your phone and it is….8:00AM exactly. Perfect time to get up.
You receive a rap at the window and part the blinds of your bedroom to see Marie and Haley standing outside all wrapped in sweaters, scarves and beanies. Ugh, it must be snowing….yet another reminder you live in the coldest country on earth not named Russia.

“Bonjour, Commander” Haley says smiling, handing you a beanie, sweater and scarf as you get up to unlock the door for them. A draught of cold air catches you as soon as you open the door and you shiver. Fuck, that’s cold.

“What are we doing today?”

You throw on the layers as quickly as you can. God is it cold out there today, and if it’s this cold now you can barely imagine how cold it’s going to be over the next few weeks. The fact that it’s so cold also give you a reason to go and look for your luggage – you’re going to need all the warm clothes you can get if Canada’s winters don’t turn into the last couple days.

“We’re going to try to find my lost luggage” You blearily say, throwing on the same shoes you’ve been wearing for the last two days now. They’re probably going to get wet, and cold.

Ugh, just one more reason to get your luggage back ASAP. Marie hands you a pair of snow boots in your size as if reading your thoughts.

“Wait, but how-“ You stammer. God, it really is too early for this shit.

“You left them at my place last year.” Marie says. YES, THANKYOU BASED FORESIGHT.

“Wait where’s Alexis?” You ask as all three of you file out, suddenly warm again.

“Playing in the snow.” Marie says, shrugging. “Can you believe she’s never seen snow before?”

No you can’t, come to think of it. But you were born and raised in Canada. You wonder what snowless winters must feel like. They must be pretty awesome in comparison.

Alexis catches up with you and you fill her in on the situation. We’re finding luggage today, not Tanks. She looks a little disappointed at that, but this is important.

“Okay,” Alexis says, pouting. “Where do we begin?”

“Most obvious first?” You say, already starting to walk. “Lost property?”

“Sounds like a good plan to me!” Marie says, and you precede to walk towards the iron and glass superstructure of the command tower to try and find the lost property section of the ship.

The walk is slow and cold through the cold, and you notice there aren’t a hell of a lot of students out and about today. Huh, interesting. Probably all cooped up indoors in there warm clothes and warm blankets playing their video games in their warm indoors, you grumble inwardly. Fuck having to get your luggage on a day like today.

Your phone vibrates as you walk. Email. Well that’s something. You decide to check it later.

You make it to the command tower after a half hour of walking and walk up to the receptionist, a young Naval Studies girl you remember working with in English last year named Amelia Jones.

“Hey Evelyn!” Amelia says way too cheerfully for a Saturday Morning “What can I help you with?”

“Well, I’m missing my luggage” You respond
“Oh? Like a Suitcase or something?”

“Or Something” You respond, you don’t have time for this. “Try all of my luggage”

“Oh well, I’ll see what I can do for you” Amelia says, and pops out the back ‘Won’t be a minute”

Yeah, you bet she won’t.

What to do while you wait, though, you think to yourself. You may be here a little while while the Lost Property girls wade through everything.

You flick your phone out while you wait, taking a seat and bring up the Email app while you wait. May as well aim for that efficiency and manage your team while you wait.
Haley sits down and pulls up a magazine in French, while Marie pulls up last year’s yearbook, giggling every now and then at various points in the process. Alexis merely pulls out her phone and begin tapping away and texting – you’re not sure and who, and you don’t want to pry.
You have three emails waiting for you as the App opens:

Wonder if there are Winter Sports editions to tankery we can compete in?
>>
>Dad – Just a few things.

You open up the email from Dad with a flick. The old man has a few things he could say that might cheer you up on a day like this.

>Hey, Gorgeous!

>I just got a bit of word from DeGaul about a new Tankery team, and I thought you might have something (or everything) to do with that, so if it is you, good luck. I also got a small promotion at my job, so thought I’d give you a little bit of an allowance I've been meaning to give you for a while.

You smile a bit as you close the email, and then notice another email has popped into your inbox. You glance up at the desk and notice Amelia still hasn’t returned yet.

Moving on, you flick to the next email. The new email can wait, you think. Probably spam. Good knows the student email servers get attacked every other week by something weird and sometimes Nigerian.

>Hey Evelyn,

>I’ve squared away the paperwork and will be your instructor for the coming term, starting when your school term starts on Monday, September 30th 2013.

>I understand you might have queries of me – such as a conflict of interests between being the Tankery captain of George S. Patton and being your instructor. As you may be aware, I was recruited by West Point as a professional Tankery player last June while still a senior at George S Patton school of tankery. One requirement of my tenure with the West Point professional team is that I go out and instruct a school team at least once a year.

>I chose Sherbrooke. Not because I wanted to spy on you and report back to Patton college on everything that you did as an inside agent, but because in all my years of Tankery against your school, they have never failed to produce an exciting match.

>That being said, if I feel you are up to it, and if it ever comes down to you facing George S Patton in the finals or whatever have you, I will have no qualms going back to my previous role of Tankery commander at George S Patton and giving you a match you can truly write home about.

>Anyway, I just thought I’d write and let you know that everything is squared away and great, and you should have no problems with me as an instructor as I try and hone you to the best of your potential

All Tankery tank must have historical basis on its construction. No M18 variant have closed turret variant ever produced during war, so no.

And closed turret in this definition seems refer to solid, permanent roof like you got on regular tanks, not something like you got on M36.
>>
>Bus Depot

“Where’s the nearest bus depot for the bus company that ran us all onto the ship?” You ask Amelia. Maybe it forgot to be unpacked and could still be on the bus.

“Ummmmm…..” She says, thinking so loudly that you can almost see it hurting “About a ten minute walk from here. East and 33rd I believe.”
Oh, you know where that is. That’s over in the Glades. Cool.

You thank Amelia and head out towards the Glades, smiling as you watch a number of girls ice skating across the surface of Lake Amherst. Looking at it now, you find it hard to believe that there was a tank buried under there, let alone something quite as big as the D2.

You make your way to the Bus Depot and talk to the man behind the counter, a balding yet cheery man known as Paul, and inform him of your situation.

“…so I’ve lost my luggage,” you say, realizing that the more people you tell, the more embarrassing it becomes.

Paul simply frowns “Well we do a full clean-out of every bus after every day, so I highly doubt that we’d still have anything of yours,” He says “I’m really not sure what to tell you.”

“What about the Freshman buses?” You ask, Paul just simply nods his head.

“Yes, even those.” He says evenly “Trust me, Miss LeClerc, no-one has seen head nor tail of your luggage here. If it means so much to you, I will get one of my interns to have another look for you.”

You thank Paul and give him your number as you leave in case he finds anything. He wishes you a good day as you walk out the door.

“We are we still walking everywhere!?” Marie moans as you continue walking “Don’t we have Tanks for this kind of thing? So that we can drive everywhere?”

Actually, that’s a really good point, you hadn’t thought of that.

“We do only have $7500,” Haley says, frowning a little bit.

“Ten thousand,” You correct “My Dad sent me through a little allowance.”

“We’re going to be rich!” Marie yells, and jumps and high fives Alexis, celebrating the entire time.

“Well, what do you think, Commander?” Alexis says “We could Comp Spec a vehicle so that we get around quicker without breaking down. What do you say?”

"Great but which Tank?" You ask, raising an eyebrow

"The Tetrarch's only $2500" Marie says "We can all fit in and around it, and if we hate it we can always come back to another tank later."

The rest all nod. Welp, can;t argue with that logic.

“Actually, the Tetrarch only holds three people, doesn’t it?”

“Indeed it does, Miss LeClerc”

“Okay, Miss LeClerc. Remember that the shop is open any time you want to call it.”

“No worries Mister Coapes, sorry and have a good one!”

The phone goes dead and you turn to see Haley looking neutrally at you, Alexis still playing in the snow like a giddy five year old, and Marie pouting.

“So I take it we’re still walking then.” Marie says, still pouting til she’s read in the face.

“Oh come on, Marie” You say.

“Nope”

“Marie….”

“Nup”

“Lets head in the direction of…..” Marie pauses, and hesitates, looking down from her perch on your shoulders to you.

“Freshman Dorms,” you say, ticking off the possibilities on your fingers. “I didn’t leave it on the bus and it wasn’t reported abandoned or lost, so someone had to have picked it up.”

“Freshman Dorms, HO!” Marie says from your shoulders, and, after taking a brief moment to collect Alexis from the snow and possibly hypothermia and frostbite, you set off in that direction.

“What Tanks do you think are still left out there to find?” Marie asks everyone as you walk, taking in the sights and sounds of the snow and the giggles of the girls as they precede to have the most fun they can in it. You sigh, if this was a school day, everyone would be just as miserable.

“I hope we get more French ones” Marie says.

“I’m still holding out hope for the Sentinel,” Alexis says “maybe even the Thunderbolt variant with the 17 pndr.”

“I’m just happy for Tanks,” You shrug “But I hope we get some better cannons on some of them, because we’re looking a bit weak in that department.”

You make your way to the Freshman dorms – a complex of various apartments and rooms of all shapes and sizes. Since Sherbrooke’s dorms work on a rotational basis of classes, this was last years seniors dorms, but the Freshman are still able to change rooms and come and go as they please. You report into the office and begin the search, eventually stopping enough students to level your search down to one apartment block, and four rooms….

You decide to knock on the door to room 3….

And Arcadia Chapman, the freshman you talked too on the bus, answers the door.

“Hey Evelyn!” She says, grinning. “Come on in!”

You invite yourself in, with your three other friends coming in as well, squeezing yourself into Arcadia’s giant apartment sized bedroom of a dorm. Littered against the walls are rifles, a couple bags and a small screen TV with a few DVD cases lying around it.

And that’s when your eyes see it, nametags and all….

YOUR LUGGAGE.

Arcadia notices as you as you see it. ‘Oh yeah, you left that at the dropoff” she says a little nervously “You left in such a rush I thought it must have been important and thought I'd catch you up later and besides….” She blushes “You were one of the few people that were actually nice to me.”

Aracadia picks up a rifle from the wall and puts it over her shoulder, unloaded and cracked for safety, but still looking deadly regardless. ‘Anyway, I was just about to head out to do a little bit of practice, do you want to come with?”

“Great!” Aracadia says excitedly and practically run out the door “I actually need you guys to do me a favour – I need you to be a spotter on the shooting course for me.”

“Yeah, okay” You say, confused. You turn to Alexis and mouth ‘what’s a spotter?’. Alexis just shrugs quietly in response.

Youe eventually make your way to the port side deck, where you notice the most goregopus view of the Hudson Strait engulfing the ship.

Arcadia takes no notice of it and merely goes about her business, fidgeting with a couple of bullets and safety gear as she loads her rifle. She points you to a machine that looks like a turret from Team Fortress 2 “When I yell pull, I need you to press the button 5 times on that”.

“5 times?” you ask, walking over.

“Yep” Arcadia says, suddenly confident. Brave. In her Element.

She pauses and squares on to the Hudson Strait, squaring her rifle to her shoulder, and breathes deep once. You can see the breath from here – it’s just one fluid motion.

“Alright, PULL” She yells at you, as you tap the button five times.

Five Clay Pidgeons come rocketing out of the machine, whistling away from the ship across the Hudson Strait.

You stare in dumbfounded shock.

Holy shit, none of those even came close to touching the water or the nature that was so agonizingly close to the boat itself.

Arcadia breathes and cracks her gun open before mumbling a “All clear”.

“Holy Shit! That was Amazing!” You say, walking back over to Arcadia.

“Yeah, autoloaders a little slow, might have to sand it down” She says, looking down at the gun with a slight frown “Cost me about a tenth of a second…”

“You mean you could have been faster?” You ask incredously. Arcadia just nods.

Holy shit, you just might need to get this girl in a tank soon…..

“Look, Evelyn, you’re a really nice person and I have no doubts you have all the Tankery expertise in the world at your disposal, but think of the autoloader on the rifle. That cost me time. Imagine what that could do with a bad loader in a tank.”

You stop and think. Huh, she has a point.

“Well I’m on duty, but I can send my understudies to wherever you’re going to be to meet up with you” Fay says, “They’re good kids, you’ll like them.”

“Oh I have no doubt,” You say “Tell them to meet us at-“

“-at the Solar Farm.” You say

“Where Eden and I busted you yesterday?” Fay chuckles “Alright, works for me.”

She hangs up.

You walk through to the Solar Farm and slip through the same hole as you slid through yesterday, keeping an eye out for anyone who could spot you the entire time. Your crew do the same thing, everyone trying to keep an eye on an any would be witnesses to trespassing – there is no way any of you are being caught again.

Suddenly, you spot a flash of red, and then another and another.

“Our Mountie friends?” Marie says from behind you as they make spot you and hurry over, all of them taking the same precautions as you did.

“Let’s hope they really are friends.” You mumble as they approach.

The lead one tips her hat to you as she approaches, but her face doesn’t break out into any smiles or grins at all. She seems a little grim and proper.

“Evelyn LeClerc?”

“I come in peace!” You say, holding up your hands in surrender. The Junior Mountie grins and then laughs as soon as you do, still chuckling as you sheepishly lower your hands.

“Fay sent us. It’s okay” The lead one says, and tips her hat at you, the other two Mounties do the same “I’m Louisa Banff, this is Alberta Jasper and and Amber Yoho”

“Alberta, huh?” Marie says.

“Shut up, I’ve heard all the jokes” Alberta snaps back.

“So, tank hunting…..” Louisa says “I thought the Tankery team were well equipped?”

“We are…” You scratch the back of your head nervously “…but the school lost a few tanks so we’re trying to get them back.” As you say that both Alberta and Amber begin elbowing Louisa in the back and whispering excitedly. “What are they saying?”

“They’re saying to show you the Tank they saw on their rounds yesterday. I keep telling them its obviously not a working tank and that it’s a statue but they just won’t quit.”

“Show me.” You say.

The mounties tell you to follow and lead you back from the way they came, looking over their shoulder and around the entire time.

“We’re keeping an eye out for Eden” Louisa explains “It appears you really left an impression on her. She’s out for your head.”

Great…..

“Chin up though,” Louisa continues, looking at the other two freshman who seem to be trying to push the other into any oncoming traffic “We all prefer Fay, and we’d all report to her if we thought we could get away with it, and Fay likes you, so its not like we’re going to dob you into Eden or anything.”

Louisa smiles as she rounds the corner to a new park that you’d never seen on the boat before. In fact, you’ve never even seen this park. A giant sign out the front says “TOMMY BURNS PARK”.

A sign underneath reads “For those who have fought and died for this country, we salute you.”
A Tank guards the entrance to the Park, its long gun pointing out across the trees.
“Huh, it’s a Valentine” you remark and send Marie to climb up onto it to see whether it works.

She quickly jumps on the Tank and unbuttons the hatch, poking around inside. She’s gone for about 5 minutes before she pokes her head up from the command hatch, this time covered in soot and grease.

“Everything appears to be in working order!” She says.

You grin. Awesome.

“Ah yes, Miss LeClerc, everything going swimmingly I see?”

“Actually, Seaman said there’s a couple tanks below “ You say “She also said not to go down there without an escort…..”

“…yes, tragic that. It appears every other week we have a Naval Studies student who goes down for maintenance and gets stuck or lost down there in one form or another.” DeGaul says

‘Well, I was wondering how we would go about getting an escort?” You ask.

“Well you’d need an advanced senior Naval Studies student. Someone like Samantha herself would be a good idea, but by all reports, you and her seem to have got off on a bad footing. I’ll give you the number of another girl: Carrie Reeves. She seems to be very good with navigation below decks.

You make a note of that name: Carrie Reeves. Its another you think you’ve heard before, but the thought passes.

“Alternatively, you have my permission to go down there yourself, which overrides Ms Seaman. However, I take no responsibility if you get lost down there at all.”

“Now will that be all, Ms Seaman?”

Your stomach rumbles at that. Almost time for dinner, you think.

Ten bucks say they either:
_ Formed a civilization of their own down there, that barely remembers life on deck, and thinks the inside of the ship is all the universe. The Ship is All. The Ship Moves.

“No that’ll be Ms DeGaul, thankyou.” You say hanging up and then turning to the assorted Mountie cadets as well as your crew. You notice the ARV just rounding the bend as you hang up and direct the Naval Studies students to the Valentine and how to wedge it off of its pedestal without damaging anything. You got this, you feel like saying to yourself.

“Who wants Dinner?” You say excitedly to the mounties and your crew, waiting until you’ve got all of their attentions. “My Shout!”

They all yell in excitement.

You all decide to eat out at Wendy’s stuffing your collective faces with as many burgers as they can swallow. When you finish, you relax in your chair, feeling fat, bloated, full and content. Yep, you needed that food.

“Alright, what are we going to do for the rest of the night?” Marie asks you, the Mounties all turn and look at you as well – they want in on this too.

“Alright, everyone to mine!” You say ‘We’re going to the LeClerc Theater.”

“Oooooh whats playing tonight?” Alberta asks, suddenly very excited. Shit, you hadn’t thought that far ahead yet.

Uhhhhhhhhhh……

“We’ll work it out when we get there” You say with more confidence than you thought you could muster. “I’m thinking Dudley Do-good?” you ask jokingly.

Predictably, the Mounties boo you as you all head up to get out of the Wendys and head home.

Squishing into your dorm is another matter. Cushions are thrown everywhere into makeshift beds and there’s a hearty amount of giggling between all the girls as you sit down on the couch, resting your tired legs.

Additional blankets are procured from every which way as you put on the DVD. Eh, you may as well put on something that has tanks in it so that these girls can get a feel for what they’re getting themselves into.

You find yourself tired enough that your eyes shut even during the Tank fight scene. The girls gasp and awww at every shell hitting the shermans and the tiger, and yet you….

A look of surprise appears on Rick's face before dissolving into a smile

“So you boys aren't fresh, that means I can throw you in the deep end, eh” he says with a wink

“Really though, we don't have any Heavy tanks that would make this an even fight, we don't have any Heavy tanks at all” he says the last part with emphasis “I think the only fair match will be when you're outnumbered”

“How outnumbered?” you ask

“We'll start off with two and see where it goes” Rick replies earnestly “Don't worry, you'll do fine”

“I'm not worried, I took a break because I don't want to worry”

“It's all good in the hood” Rob says before polishing off his beer

“When's Hamish getting back?” he asks, thinking you know more than he does

“Dunno, I'll send him a message” you say, because you don't

Rick stops leaning over the bar and moves back towards the door, “you guys don't look that busy, c'mon and check out the rest of the tanks”

You and Rob follow as he makes his way through the door and towards the Hangars you'd spotted earlier. The heat hits you again, but this time with much less intensity

You look up at and see the sun sitting noticeably lower, “It's going to be dark soon”

“There's no swamp ghosts 'round here if that's what you're worrin' about”

“No, just mentioning it”
>>
>>28976753
Rick reaches the door of the first hanger
“Here we are, Hanger number one” he informs you while switching on the lights “this is where the club owned tanks can be found, the privately owned tanks are in the other hanger”

You're slightly impressed by the selection, spotting quite a few M4A1s, Stuarts, M24 Chaffees and M3 Lees
“You only have American tanks” Rob asks noticing the same tanks as you

Rick answers in the affirmative “Yeah, it's easier securing them as most American tanks have found their way back to the US, ammo is easier to procure from NATL and so are replacement parts, and they're cheap as shit”

“Can we have a look at the Privately owned tanks?” you ask wanting to see the competition and to see if there's something cool
“Yup, we're going there next!”

You tell Rob to go with Rick while you grab the tank. As the V12 roars into life belching smoke you see Hamish pull into the yard and next to you

>[2/?]
>>
>>28976799
“Ready to go?” He asks leaning out the window

“Not yet, gotta store this tank, and check out the others” you respond “hey move your car, I gotta pivot turn and I don't want to wing it”

With that Hamish pulls around you and to the last hanger. As you pull up to the Hanger you see Hamish hauling a door singlehandedly, with Rob and Rick taking the other

While manuevering inside you notice the privately owned tanks are pretty interesting and sparse. A T-34/76, an M4 with a 105mm, an M10 Wolverine. “It's pretty empty” you
think to yourself as a breeze blows through “lots of room”

You slot the tank in next to the rest of them, “Damn that looks good” you say aloud while dismounting

“You keep talking about tanks like they're trim” Rob jests “Everyone's going to think you're a psycho”

You can't help but shrug while giving an unapologetic look

>[3/?]
>>
>>28976911
“Alright we should probably head out” you say to Robert and Rick “Hey, where's Hamish?”

“He said he was gonna get the shells out of the car”

You walk outside to help him, but it appears Hamish can handle it as he walks up to you holding a garbage bag
“You put the shells in a garbage bag?”

“What? I didn't want to make more than one trip” he replies “I've also got the track extenders in here, hopefully it doesn't tear”

“Or we'll be turned to paste” you finish

“Don't worry, I'll be gentle” he says with a smile
