Merlin Load out: http://pastebin.com/XzxtQTn3

Your name is Dirk Crocker and you’re in a battle for your life. You are currently at Big Ring and the Vagan Fleet has just begun its attack. Even though the fleet is rather far away you can tell it’s massive even from this great a distance, and that’s not even considering the invisible ships. To make matters worse the Vagans have a colony headed towards Big Ring that will most likely crash into and obliterate it if not stopped. Flit and the LEVIATHAN forces present at Big Ring have left to try and destroy it, leaving you and the fleet to fend for yourselves.

The plan is simple, defend the Diva from any attackers and allow the Vagan Fleet to funnel down the V formation the Federation Fleet is in. Once the Vagans are in deep enough the Vagan will fire its Photon Blaster Cannon into something called a Photon Ring Ray. You aren’t familiar with this kind of tech, but it’s supposed to amplify the power of the Photon Blaster Cannon, which is saying a lot.

At the moment you, Arisa, Obright, Asemu, Woolf, Yurika, and Akito are out in front of the Diva holding a defensive line. You, Akito, and Yurika are supposed to hunt down any threatening targets that might break the defensive line.

You've had your talks, said your goodbyes, and now all that’s left to do is wait for the enemy to come a knocking. You’re on edge the whole time, eyes darting around, hands gripping the controls as MID makes the occasional chirp. After a solid 10 minutes you finally see a few ships on approach, a few thousand meters in front of you.

“Enemies incoming!” MID blurts out as several dozen Vagan mobile suits speed into radar range at high speeds.

“Can you identify them MID?” You ask, readying your Armed Shield and Caladbol-Gun Blade to attack.

“Analyzing…Gafran-Type suits. They appear to have booster units attached and their heads appear to have been modified. There’s a chance these are the unmanned models.”

You wait for the suits to enter firing range and watch as one of the Gafran suits collide with a Genoace and explode with tremendous force, releasing a powerful explosion that takes several other federation suits with it.

“What?!” You exclaim in terror as the booster assisted Gafran’s split up, one group heading for you, and another heading towards a cluster of the Federation suits that are supposed to be supporting you.

“Plasma discharge detected! These suits are being used as Kamikazi units! A single one of those could easily destroy the Diva!” MID shouts as the Gafrans quickly close the gap between them and the Diva, the other group speeding towards the rookie troops.

>[A] Stay with the Diva and defend it!

>[B] Go off by yourself to try and intercept the other Kamikazi Gafran, Leave Akito and Yurika to support the others.

>[C] Go to save the rookie troops and bring Akito and Yurika with you.

> [B] Go off by yourself to try and intercept the other Kamikazi Gafran, Leave Akito and Yurika to support the others.

Those two are better pilots than us, and Flit told us that we've to save as many people as we can. We can use our grenade launchers to slow down the group coming for the Diva and our allies, then move in and do the same for the group that's after those grunts. The Caladbol-Gun should be able to cut down through multiple enemies, and we have the Hy-DODS rifles mounted for taking out larger swathes of those bastards.

Just don't let them get too close to you - we can't be sure if melee attacks will trigger the detonation mechanism.
>>
>>28880892
Hey, MID's back! I guess he's done looking up info on Uther. Just in time, little buddy.

Anyway, as for orders:
>[D] Other (Write in)
Move to intercept the Kamikazi Gafrans with Yurika. She's got the Phoenix Mk.II, that has funnels, it's the ideal suit for taking out lots of lightly armored units. Akito can stay behind to do sniper fire with his Bry-Raiser. We'll get up in the Gafrans' faces to draw them in to a clustered formation. That way they'll be easier to hit and, in the event they do explode, will take each other out via fratricide.
>>
>>28880984
Works for me.

We can establish a formation in which Akito is on sniping and flanking, Yurika's on area control, and Dirk is on artillery duty. Works considering how those two are faster and more mobile than us currently. Tell the rest of the team (both ours and the grunts) to scatter out while keeping in formation - keeping close together will mean these things have a greater chance of blowing them up. If the Diva has any suppressing fire (the DODS Gatling cannons) they should unleash them upon the Vagans.

Corralling the kamikaze units and establishing kill zones is the best way to go.
>>
Automated MS kamikazes, a colony drop, hundreds of ships that are also possibly automated, and who knows what else.

The Vagans are really going all out on this one, aren't they.

"These things are suicide drones! Spread out and don't let them get anywhere close! Yurika, come with me, we have to save those rookies!"

You leave Akito and the others to defend the Diva while you rush off with Yurika to defend nearby troops, Flit did ask you to save as many people as possible after all.

Flying as fast as you can with Yurika right behind you, you manage to reach the rookies before the Kamikazi's do.

"Spread out and don't let those things close to you, they're Kamikazi drones!" The Genoace's and the armed Mobile Workers scatter and Yurika releases her bits, sending them in a swarm at the approaching drones.

You raise the Merlin's two subarms and begin to fire your two HY-DODS rifles from the Merlin's shoulders while firing and sweeping the Caladbol-Gun Blade, attempting to take down as many of the drones as possible...

On the plus side, it's a huge use of resources. It's going to take decades for them to rebuild their arsenal. Of course, it'll take us that long, too, given how heavy our losses are likely to be in fighting them off. So things are going to die down after this until Gen 3. And we might be able to recover faster due to having a larger industrial base and a rising capability with nanotechnology. I expect us to be much more closely balanced with them in terms of military power by Gen 3. Especially if Leviathan does an advance strike on the Mars Sphere to impede their rearming progress.

Well, we managed to stop the Vagans from sabotaging Solon (as far as we know, they didn't blow up any industrial complexes there), hopefully Zarth and Nostrum as the largest industrial zones will survive as well. On the other hand, we lost control of the Moon, there's a chance the Anansi are in other colonies and that the Vagans have established a forward base where they built all this stuff (probably the same place the Anansi we beat inside Zarth were sending their data to).

I'm guessing Leviathan will use the impeding chaos to seize control over the Federation and its assets. After all, the Vagans managed to hijack a colony, had spies everywhere, and who knows who else is working for them, obviously the Feds are incapable of doing their job.

Oh, yeah, Leviathan will definitely wind up having more power and influence. Especially now that it seems Flit is collaborating with them. But I still think that will lead to them going to attack the Mars Sphere. After all, they've got access to compact colony-busting laser weapons, now. It wouldn't be inconceivable for them to blow up a few Vagan outposts, though Second Moon itself is probably not going to get hit any time soon.
>>
>>28881694
I wonder whether he collaborates with them because he thinks that's for the best, or because they have some dirt on him (maybe it's about Asemu?).

So far, they seem a bit extremist, but that's it. We've got nothing on them being remnants of old Federation families trying to get back into power, or something. But considering all their secrecy, immense funding and connections, they most likely are somehow related with the top brass.

You fire wildly at the Kamikazi Gafrans, trying your best not to hit your allies in the distance. You manage to hit one or two, but the Kamikazi Drones are remarkably fast, reacting to your shots with surprising speed for automated weapons. Yurika's bits manage to thin the swarm, but quite a few close into close range combat with some of the rookies.

The Genoaces and Balls fire bravely at the incoming Kamikazi drones, taking several out in their combined attack, however the remaining drones fly in and detonate, latching onto the slower of the rookies and detonating in large brilliant blue balls of plasma.

A good chunk of the rookies are dead, but you and Yurika managed to minimize the casualties as best you could.

After assisting a few of the more damaged suits back to a nearby ship for repairs, you and Yurika rush back to the Diva to find that it's untouched.

"I think that's the last of them for now" Akito states upon your arrival.

"The Vagans appear to be sending them in waves ahead of the ships to think things out as the ships make their way down our formation. There's only going to be more of those things the closer the ships get." Woolf says as he reloads his customized DODS rifle.

"How long till the Photon Ring Ray is ready?" You ask, getting back into formation.

"A couple minutes. We're going to wait till the Vagan Fleet is in deep so we can take out as many of their ships as possible." Woolf explains

As the others get ready for the next wave, you...

After doing some quick analysis of what little data you have regarding the "Anansi" and the Kamikazi Gafran and doing some number crunching, you realize that the drones shouldn't be working so smoothly. Their reaction times and effectiveness seem a little to high for dumb-A.i automated weapons.

Now this could mean two things. One, the Vagans weapons are far more advanced then you've been lead to believe, OR the drones are being coordinated and their performance boosted from some kind of control center.

Even for the Vagans level of tech, controlling and coordinating hundreds of drones launched from multiple ships would require a large ship or facility, if each ship had it's own control section you wouldn't see this a big a performance boost in the drones.

Considering how the Vagan forces are made up almost completely of X-Rounders, ether natural of artificially endued, their communications probably utilize X-waves which explains why jamming them up to this point hasn't worked too well.

However, if you could find which ship is controlling the drones and destroy the facilities used to coordinate and boost their capabilities, you could probably cripple the Vagans ability to use drones in this battle, or at the very least take away the drones boosted performance and make them easier targets.

Before you can talk to the others about your theory, Arisa gives a shout over the comms

The Caladbol-Gun is generator fed, so at least we don't have to worry about that one. We probably have enough ammo for at least another kamikaze rush.
>>
If there's a ship controlling all the kamikaze suits out there, it has got to be the one constantly broadcasting instructions. Maybe one of our ships should perform a sweep and search for the source of the largest quantities of transmission.

The Leviathan flagship is basically built around a kinetic weapon, right? If it's capable of firing at that target (or if we have some way to quickly eliminate it from afar), it should focus fire on that thing for now.
>>
>>28882458
The Dagon is off stopping the colony drop. The Diva is the heaviest-armed ship we have here. Though if we design a new flagship to replace the aging Diva in Gen 3, we should remedy that. Just saying, building an Alloy-class assault carrier would be a nice tribute to Millais.

As for which ship is broadcasting, it's transmitting X-waves, not radio. The closest thing we have to a scanner for that is the Grail system, which isn't here, and in its current state is just as dangerous to us as to the enemy. No, we have to hunt the ship down ourselves.
>>
>>28882546
Or our X-Rounders. They probably can pick something like that up, and we have two of the strongest in the Federation with us (excluding Desil and his team).
Maybe they can pick up something?

The Magnificent 7 are with Flit and the Dagon trying to stop the colony, they are currently out of your communication range at the moment. If they enter back into communication range before the colony is destroyed, that probably means you're all screwed

>>28882206
Ammo wise you're doing very well, you haven't used any of your grenades *yet* and thanks to the Caladbol being generator fed you've managed to conserve your Hy-DODS ammo, after this wave, depending on how many you hit, you'll probably be down to 6 E-Caps and 6 180mm Clips for your Hy-DODS and armed shield.

>>28882226
>18+5= 23

Firing your HY-DODS rifles over your shoulders, dragging the Caladbol's beam through the swarm, blasting away with the 180mm guns on the armed shield, and spraying your Beam Vulcan for good measure, you manage to take down a dozen or so drones, thinning the numbers out and forcing the remaining drones into the shots of your comrades.

Once again you and the others manage to take down the drone swarm without a scratch on yourselves or the Diva. You have a couple of minutes to prepare for the next wave, after it's done the Diva will be able to use the Photon Ring Ray.

Seeing this as an opportunity to inform the others about your theory, you take a moment to explain what you did and the conclusion you came too.

"So what you're saying is that the drones are being coordinated by a ship?" Obright asks.

"Kind of. Their performance is being boosted, but I believe as long as their tied to whatever's boosting them they are dependent on it."

"So if we destroy the ship that's coordinating them..."

"The drones will probably cease of function, and even if they do still continue to work there performance will be crippled." You explain in a hopeful tone.

"I'll send out a message to the ships at the front to report any unusual looking ships." Akito states.

Moments after he does so the next wave rushes into radar range.

>>28882601
That's what I meant by "hunt the ship down ourselves". No technological solution exists, so we're just going to have to have our X-Rounders search for it. Hell, the X-Rounders of the team were assigned to forward engagement anyway, before these kamikaze drones distracted us. Let's just send them out as intended.

We really need to look into mass-producing the miniaturized Photon Ring Ray (Proto-Blustia Cannon?) that Flit took with him to take out the colony drop. Obviously it can't be as wide-reaching as the full thing, but if it can destroy an entire colony than it has to have some serious firepower. I'd rather have a dozen of them firing in sequence than one big Photon Ring. Maybe also mass-produce some Plasma Diver Missiles, too, that would help a lot with scenarios like this. We should petition for the restrictions on their use to be lifted during the timeskip, I want as many of them as possible by the time La Gramis happens

You fire your weapons and blast a couple dozen drones into oblivion with well placed shots and sweeps, your allies taking out the remaining enemies that avoid your fire.

Once the drones are gone you see the odd array of satellite like devices arranged in a ring in front of the Diva being to glow and Vice Admiral Einus's voice booms over the comms.

"It's time for the birthday to being!" He shouts.

"Birthday?" You ask.

"It's the code word for everyone to move out of the projected firing path." Akito explains. "Oh and whatever you do, don't look directly at the blast."

You and the others move to the side as the satellite like devices begin to slowly spin in a circle, energy slowly begins to spin and collect at the center of the circle, growing brighter and brighter as it spreads out until all you can see is a brilliant blue circle.

"FIRE!" Vice Admerial Einus yells as you shut your eyes and turn the Merlin away from the Diva. Even with your eyes firmly shut and the Merlin facing the other direction a violent blue light fills your cockpit and the Merlin shakes ferociously. It's oven in seconds but your eyes sting from the intense light.

Looking down the formation you can see the damage the Photon Ring Ray dealt to the Vagan Fleet, even at this distance. Entire ships were vaporized and others were damaged beyond recognition. You hope none of your allies got trapped in the firing path...

"A-Admiral!" A voice shouts over the comms, clouded by static. "There's a huge ship that blocked the Photon Ring Ray shot!"

"What?! That's impossible!" The Admiral exclaims.

"It deployed some kind of energy barrier in front of it, shielding itself and the ships behind it! It's like none of the other Vagan ships!"

"Prepare to fire the Photon Blaster Cannon again, speed up the Photon Ring Ray's recharge" The Admiral demands.

"But if we do that the Diva could lose power after the second shot..." One of the new bridge crew explains.

(Cont)
>>
>>28883101
"We cannot allow that ship to protect the other ships in it's fleet. As long as it's able to block the Photon Ring Ray blasts, the damage we will deal to the Vagan Fleet will be minimal at best. We have to overwhelm it and destroy it, even if it means losing power." The Admiral states fiercely.

"Our you could send a team to infiltrate and destroy it." Woolf over the comms.

"Throwing men at that monster of a ship would only be sending good men to their deaths." The Admiral retorts.

"Not us. We can break inside, just send some other suits with us and we'll be able to force our way inside. If Dirk here is right that thing is probably the control center for all these suicide drones. Even if we do fail in destroying the ship, I bet we can still cripple their control over them. Give us 20 minutes once we bust inside the ship, if we're not out by then you can use the Photon Ring Ray to try and destroy the ship." Woolf says, almost eagerly.

"...This sounds like a foolish plan, but you're not usually one for bravado. Alright, I'll allow it, get moving." The Admiral says with a weary sigh.

"Alright, Asemu, Dirk, you're with me. Everyone else, stay with the ship." Woolf states.

"What? Why can't we go?" Akito demands.

"Because we need to send in a small team to infiltrate that ship, the bigger we are the easier we will be to track and hit. Besides, someone needs to protect the Diva, we lose that and we lose the battle, even if we do destroy that big ship." Woolf explains.

"Why are you going then Commander?" Arisa asks.

"I have a score to settle with Max. I have a gut feeling he's on that ship. Besides, Akito's a member of Leviathan, the could have out ranked me any time he choose so I don't see any reason to act like the leader when I'm not. Someone needs to destroy that ship."

The Double Bullet's guns (or at least, a pair of the same design going by the model kit) can be equipped on top of the beam machine guns to increase firepower, and detach to be used as hand-operated weapons if the rapid-fire capability needs to be freed up. Could be worth it.

You're right about keeping Woolf back, though. He's clearly too emotional compromised. So are Asemu and Dirk, honestly, but they haven't said anything about that on an open channel so there's no justification to hold them back. So I'm changing my vote to :

"A ship that big has to have a lot of hangers, we could probably find a lesser defended one and get in through there once we shoot through the troops guarding it." Asemu suggests.

"Or we could fly up underneath it and make our own door. We have enough firepower to make a MS sized hole to one of the lower decks. It'll probably throw the enemy off guard." Akito responds.

As long as that thing is moving, we've got a problem. We can cripple its thrusters with an attack from behind, which would slow down the entire Vagan fleet. That should give our allies enough time to regroup, get reinforcements and maybe outflank the bastards. With enough luck, maybe we can even turn it on one of its sides, which would give the Photon Cannon a window of opportunity for an attack.

Once we break that thing's thrusters, we break in their hangars from bellow, fuck up everything critical in sight, and retreat.

Those glowing segments on the sides look like they're probably radiators for the engines. Probably the shields, too, since the generators are on the end of those big nacelles. Radiators are by their nature very hard to armor, especially from energy weapons like we're using. Let's take them out before we do anything else. The ship itself will still be operational, but it will incapable of accelerating or projecting the shield. We might even be able to blast through straight to the reactors and detonate them.

The main limitation of the Artimes's mobile armor mode is that its guns lock down into position and can't aim without turning the whole thing. So what we do is have the Amateras and Merlin ride on the Artimes in Strider mode, also contributing their own thrusters' output. Then we have the shield funnels take up position at the barrels of the guns. They work together with the Long-Range Rifles, HY-DODS Cannons, two get left over for defense with the beam shields. Then we fly in a loop around the Downes, with the "top" of the Artimes facing inward. Every time we pass a thruster nacelle we fire our guns upwards. Between four HY-DODS cannons, two Bry-Raiser sweeps, and a buster shot from the HY-DODS Custom, it should take them out pretty well.
>>
>>28884354
Sounds great. We remain mobile, damage as much as we can, and are capable of quickly returning back the moment the shields are down for the Photon Cannon blast.

We might need to purge the extra armor for speed and mobility, though.
>>
Any updates on what's going on with that colony drop?
>>
>>28884893
Not at the moment. They are out of comm range, if they come into comm range before the colony is destroyed, that means they're too late and the the colony will crash into Big Ring.

>>28884354
You explain your plan to the others and they seem to like it pretty well.

Asemu transforms the Artimes into Strider mode and you and Akito mount it, firing your thursters as Asemu does the same, giving the AGE-2 a huge boost in speed.

"Alright, we fly around to the back of the ship and blast the engines with everything we have, I'll use my reflector bits to deflect your shots forward to the side, so just keep flying forward and firing Asemu." You say as the massive ship comes into range.

Asemu closes the distance between the ship very fast. The mobile suits surrounding the ship begin to fire down on you, the men following you fall behind and are left to fight the enemies guarding the ship while you, Akito, and Asemu circle around behind the ship.

As you see the first engine nacelle you take aim and fire...

The entire thing is like one big on the rails shooter. Asemu speeds along, wavering out of the defending Vagan gunfire while you and Akito blast away at the engine nacelles you pass.

You manage to blast away every single Necelle you target all while holding up the beam shield/reflector funnels and directing Asemu's shots into other Necelles. By the time Asemu reaches the other side of the ship the back end looks like something you'd find floating in a debris field.

"Alright! This hulk of a ship isn't going anywhere! Now let's do this!" You yell as Asemu dives down under the ship and pulls up, flying at it's under belly.

The three of you open fire with all your weapons, blowing a large hole into the bottom of the ship that Asemu flies through. You and Akito jump off and Asemu transforms the AGE-2 back into it's mobile suit form.

You're in some kind of storage hanger that is currently losing oxygen very very fast. Workers and supplies begin to get sucked out as the three of you survey your surroundings and see numerous mobile suits, all prepped and ready for launch.

Before you can start firing you see two very, very familiar suits start to move. A samurai like Adele and a red, almost reptilian like mobile suit activate and step out from their service racks.

"MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX!" Asemu screams, blasting forward as the two suits turn and begin to flee deeper into the ship. Akito races off after Asemu before you can get moving.

"Stick to the plan, stick to the plan!" You shout and get ready to race after them when something yellow appears out of the corner of your eye...

Before you can turn to see what hit you you're struck from behind and the Merlin is sent flying across the room. You manage to get the Merlin back on it's feet and see a yellow mobile suit similar to the one that fought you back at Solon.

It's bigger then it was before and...fatter. It only stood at 18 meters before, but now it stands at 23 meters and looking much, much more durable then before. It hangs from the ceilings by it's arms, while it's hand like feet remain pointed at you, the beam guns built into the fingers trained on you.

You remain still and manipulate the sub arms to try and reload the now empty Hy-DODS cannons on your shoulders. However the sub-arms scrape against the rear armor of the Merlin and your eyes widen in horror as you just now see your spare magazines dragged across the floor and sucked out through the hole Asemu and you make in the floor. The Monkey must have knocked all the magazines from your rear hard points when it thwacked the Merlin in the ass.

Totalling the engines was a blast, but you used up all the ammo in your Armed shield and Hy-DODS rifle. You still have your grenades, but their loaded with goo grenades and now you don't have any reloads.

>HY-DODS Rifles out of ammo
>Armed Shield of out Ammo

The new and improved 'Monkey' just hangs from the ceiling, waiting for you to make a move. As it waits doors begin to close down, sealing off the now depressurized hanger. Out of the corner of your screen you see Akito and Asemu chasing off after Max and Zeheart before a large door closes down behind them, blocking them from your view.

It's time to fight Dirk, what are you going to do?

You fire the Caladbol and hit your reflector bits spot on, creating a kind of 'beam cage' around the monkey. You should be able to hold the cage for about a minute before the Caladbol gives out and begins to recharge.

Instead of firing on the Monkey with your vulcans or your few remaining goo grenades, you instead open the comms and ask something that's been bugging you for a while.

"Yeah, hi. What is your suit called? I'm really pretty tired of calling it 'the Monkey' so could you give me it's name so I can have something less stupid to call it" You ask.

"Wait what? That's what you want to know? Not who I am, or why I'm here? Just, what's the name of my suit?" The pilot asks, sounding quite surprised.

"Your name would be nice too, but I'm sort of pressed for time considering I need to blow this ship up. Whatever is faster" You say with a shrug.

"I'm Arabel Zoi, pilot of the Monodrag, and the person who's going to KILL YOU!" The Monodrag raises its hand/feet inside of the beam cage and fires on you with the vulcans inside of its' fingers.

You raise your two beam shield/reflector bits and block the barrage of beam vulcan fire. With the beam from your Caladbol directed away from the other Reflector bits, the cage is broken and the Monodrag drops from the ceiling, lunging across the room to attack.

"Listen, since we're going to fighting one another mind if I ask you some other questions? What's Zeheart's suit called exactly? I've never fought the thing before so I'd at least like to know it's name."

"It's called the Ghirarga, why are you so calm about all this!? I'm trying to kill you and all you want to do is play 20 Questions!?" Arabel shouts, confused and very frustrated as he swings the Monodrag's tail towards the Merlin. You fly back and land, boosting forward with the help of your new thrusters, swinging at the Arabel with the heat blade of the Caladbol.

The Monodrag leaps up and grabs onto the ceiling, but you manage to graze it though the extra armor makes it aesthetic damage. All that armor appears to have hampered the Monodrag's mobility. Perhaps Arabel isn't used to the new size of weight of the machine, regardless you might be able to use this to your advantage.

You have your beam vulcans, beam sabers, your shield, a few goo grenades left in the launchers, and the blade part of the Caladbol It'll be another minute before you can fire, in the mean time you have your bits to work with.

What do you wish to do Dirk? The clock is ticking, the longer you mess with Arabel the less time you have to destroy the ship and leave with your lives.
>>
>>28886913
"This isn't a suitable battlefield. I prefer the background to be near the core reactor of this ship, makes it more climatic."
>>
>>28886913
Blame it on PTSD. A week ago our greatest worry was fixing a suit for a friends birthday, and in the meantime we've been shot, got our arm blown off, and God knows what else.

Okay, we need a plan. Is there something around the hangar we can use? Our best bet so far would be to lure the guy into that locked corridor where Asemu and Zeheart went with our bits and attempt to cut through him and the door with the Caladbol-Gun (C-Gun?).
>>
>>28886913
Have the shield funnels surrounding him flip sideways and move in towards him. Keep him busy with keeping them away from him.

"Hey, now, there's no need to be rude. Chatting with your opponents is the best way to meet new friends. Hell, all of my aunts and uncles started out as people my dad fought enough to grow some mutual respect for. I thought this could be the same sort of thing. I was even going to invite you to my next birthday party. But if you're going to have such an attitude, then I guess it's not worth the trouble."
>>
>>28886913
Can the sub-arms place the HY-DODS Rifles on the weapons rack, or are they not dexterous enough for that? If they can, swap the rifles for the beam sabers so we can jab at him if he tries to get off to our side.
>>
>>28887312
The Sub-Arms are very dexterous, it's just they aren't very strong or durable. Though with a beam saber that's really not and issue, you could totally use the Sub-Arms to wield your beam sabers.
>>
>>28887348
Okay, let's do that. Combined with the bits as flying swords, we can navigate the guy into that corridor or a corner where we can glue him to the wall.
>>
>>28887506
Discarding your empty Hy-DODS rifles you have the sub-arms pull the beam sabers out and activate them. Holding the sub-arms out to the side makes it look like the Merlin has two extra, if somewhat scrawny look, arms.

>>28887073
"A week ago the biggest worry I had was fixing a suit for my friend's birthday party, for all I know I probably have some new flavor of PTSD, so frankly I don't feel like getting all stressed over this." You state as you activate the beam shield bits and rush the Monodrag, swinging the C-Gun's heat blade and lashing out with your beam sabers.

You immediately find that having an extra set of arms on the Merlin is not only useful, but very exhilarating for some reason. As you proceed to back Arabel into a corner, you wonder if you could give yourself an extra pair of arms now that your kind of a cyborg. Mom would probably lose her mind over it, but Dad probably wouldn't really have an issue with it. If anything he'd use it as an excuse to make you carry all the groceries.

Suddenly the Monodrag attempts to leap over the Merlin's head to avoid being cornered, but you throw out the Merlin's footGah and kick the monkey against the wall, it's extra armor making it slow enough to stop mid jump.

Firing your last goo grenades you pin Arabel and the Monodrag to the wall, totally immobilizing him.

"Gah! How was I beaten by the likes of you again!?" Arabel shouts in dismay.

"I'm not sure, how about you stay here and think about it while I destroy this ship? Try to have something in 15 minutes." You say, checking the time you have left before Vice Admiral Einus fires the Ring Ray.

Now that Arabel is not an issue, you can go and track down Max and Zeheart. The hanger you're in is locked down, but you can easily cut through these shutters with a beam sword. Which way will you go though?

You decide to find another way and cut a hole in one of the other shutters before moving deeper into the ship, following the heat signatures in the hopes of finding where the others are fighting or where the reactors are. After a minute or so you manage to find both.

Cutting through a blast door you step the Merlin into a massive room with a high ceiling and many catwalks stretching across the room and to other plate forms. Below you, at the bottom of the shaft like room you see what could only be the ships generator, humming away and pulsing with powerful energy.

Gazing around you believe you are alone for a moment, then something is flung from one of the high platforms, the artificial gravity present in the reactor room brings it crashing down in front of you.

Akito's golden AGE-2 lays mutilated and beaten at your feet, it's limbs crippled, it's head melted, an it's cockpit smashed in. Looking up you see Zeheart's mobile suit looming above you, some kind of high tech spear grasped in his suits hands, gold paint staining the tip of it...

The Ghirarga walks across one of the catwalks to a platform in the center of the room, high above your head.

"You could have run Dirk, you and your friends could have turned the other way and lived to see the new world I'm going to help create. However you choose to stay and fight and now you and everyone else is going to die because of your imbecilic stubbornness."

"Wait, what?"

"Did you really think that we became so advanced on our own? Ezelcant was given the information and the tools necessary to develop the technology that not only helped Vagan survive, but to this day helps ensure our technological superiority over the Earth Federation."

Welp, my money is on Arthur basically being Zeheart's leader. Still, it's good to know that we are delaying him. We are buying time and stopping him from going Ghiren 'Space Hitler' Zabi on everyone. Still, Zeheart is pretty much pitiful at this point.

First it was for his family, then Ezelcant, now Arthur. He's not some hero, he's not savior, he's a stupid beast who'd kill anyone for the dumbest reasons.

Let's just blow up this place, rescue our REAL bros, and get out of here. Zeheart isn't worth it when other lives are on the line.

Fire the Bry-Raiser at the reactor. It's an armor-piercing weapon, Vagan reactors are ridiculously reactive, make it explode. A Crocker is nothing if not spiteful. Maybe we'll die here, but we're certainly going to take out the Downes.
>>
>>28889432
Or Uther.

Remember what Uther said, how Arthur hated war? No reason for him to keep one going on for so long. And if his goal is achieving peace, he already accomplished that because there were a hundred years of peace and quiet after the Colony Nation Wars. He also left the Crusader and MaG behind, formatted her memory so no one could find the EXA-DB, and left.

Uther, on the other hand, already said how he worked for both sides in the war, selling them weapons and blueprints so he can be richer and more famous. And there's also the impeccable timing of him suddenly falling dead immediately before the Vagan attack.
>>
>>28889587
But then why would Uther tell us about Edol Inertia (and, by extension, tip us off about SID)? Seems kind of odd to give your enemy information on one of your greatest resources.
>>
>>28889587
Got a point there. Either way, the good news is that by pushing them back, we are buying time for our stuff.. and if by the off chance that it IS Arthur, well... I suggest the two next gen Gundams to be Lancelot and Morrigan,
>>
>>28889665
I think you mean Mordred, not Morrigan. Morrigan was the Irish goddess of death. Mordred was the bastard son of Arthur who dealt him the Dolorous Stroke. Besides, Rysis probably has dibs on the name "Morrigan" for her new suit that we haven't seen yet.
>>
>>28889651
For us to find them.

No one - not even Arthur - knew where SID and EXA-DB would be stationed. Remember the logs Jake found on that ship in the Graveyard? The ship was to follow SID to a specific location, and only SID was aware of where it was going. In case the ship got destroyed, SID would continue there on its own. In case SID was destroyed, the ship is to destroy the database.

Uther knew about Edol from Zarth - they were colleagues after all, and Uther was in Zarth's prison at the time. And Zarth probably told him how the greatest machine ever was sent on some mission alongside Arthur which is pretty damn important.
>>
>>28889396
"I can still tell you're mad about your parents. I know speaking for Jake and the family when I say I'm sorry." You say, burying your hatred and rage and faking some sympathy as you go over and check Akito's AGE-2.

You make it seem like you're mourning over your friend when you're really snatching whatever you can off the AGE-2. All it has left on it are two beam sabers, but something is better then nothing.

"So you're really going to stand down and die? Have you finally seen that there's no point in going on?" Zeheart asks, sounding genuinely surprised.

"Sure. But come down and do it with your own two hands, I'd rather be stabbed then shot." You say, luring him in.

"Very well." Zeheart flies down to you and lands in front of the Merlin with a heavy thud. He raises his spear above his suit's head.

"Any last words Dirk?"

"Yes. You're a complete fucking idiot!" You ignite the AGE-2's beam sabers and deflect the spear away from the Merlin, lashing out at the Ghirarga with the sub arms and managing to disable it's chest cannon.

"ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Zeheart screams in anger and suddenly two beam blades come out of the sides of the spear, turning it into a beam scythe. He swings it at you and slides your armed shield right off the Merlin's arm.

All four beam sabers raised, you get ready to battle Zeheart to the death. This is it Dirk, what will you do?
>>
>>28889918

Anyway, lets get him away from the AGE-2, and somewhere he can't use his higher mobility against us. Ignite the bits and head over to the generator room so we can blow that fucker up.

Deploy the funnels (it occurs to me that, since we're also using them as reflectors and blades, "shield funnel" isn't entirely an accurate name for them anymore. We'll have to rename them at some point.). Only the knee and shoulder funnels, though, I want the arm ones in place for blocking. Zeheart doesn't actually know what our funnels can do, so send them zooming about like we're going to use them for an all-range attack, without igniting them yet. But As soon as we have him distracted with fighting us we ignite the beam fields and have them converge on him.

However he just stands there and chuckles over the comms."So you bits too? How amusing. If I'm going to kill you I guess I might as well show you what a REAL X-Rounder can do!"

Suddenly panels on the Ghirarga begin to move and odd spikes seem to jut out of the back, knees, and fore arms. Several panels on the chest slide back and the chest cannon is ejected, exposing some kind of unusual beam projector. Deciding not to wait and find out what Zeheart is planning on doing you activate your bits and move them in to strike at Zeheart.

However the strange projector glows and small balls of light fly out of the Ghirarga's chest. They swarm like bees and crash the beam barriers your funnels, pushing them away from Zeheart.

"W-what are those!?" You exclaim.

You know, that "beam confuse" bit always, pardon the pun, confused me. If a spinning beam saber can deflect beams like that, why did it take another eighty years for anyone to make a defensive measure based on it? Beam rotors should have been a feature as early as ZZ.

Oh, right, your question: We have a beam rifle, the Caladbol-Gun has a Bry-Raiser rifle built into it. But it's a very focused beam, it probably would just punch through and not scatter at all.

DC16
>Failure

You try to fly back but the particle bits are too fast! They go through your armor like it's not even there and clip the Merlin's arms and legs off. The Merlin crashes against the wall behind you as you lose all means to maneuver.

Even with your limbs gone you fire you Vulcans up at Zeheart in defiance, You manage to blast out the exposed beam projector in his suit's chest, causing the particle bits to disintegrate.

Zeheart retaliates by running and smashing you in the cockpit. The screen of your panoramic cockpit cracks and you smash your head off the dashboard. Thankfully the helmet you're wearing stopped you from getting brained, however you realize you broke something far more valuable then bones when you begin getting violent flashes.

Your X-Limiter is broken.

"Gah, you may have destroyed my weapons but you are defeated. It's time for you to die Dirk, farewell!"

You see it all, your death, the destruction of Big Ring, the destruction of the Federation, the deaths of millions, and a dark figure that looks somewhat like your father looming over the Earth, laughing with glee as he takes control of mankind from the shadows and shapes it to his whim.

However that hasn't happened yet and none of it will happen if you can act. But all you have are your beam vulcans...

In your violent precognitive seizure you see a beam saber next to the Merlin, but it's just out of the Sub-Arm's reach.

If only there was something you could do to bring it closer.

>[A] Summon your anger and focus your X-Rounder powers to draw the beam saber to the Sub-Arm, deflect Zeheart's attack and then run him through! You don't know what this will do to you though...

>[B] Fire at Zeheart's cockpit with your Beam Vulcans! He's already swung his spear, but even if he kills you, you can try to take him out as well!

Come on Dirk, you can do it!
>>
>>28890922
(On the subject of beam rotors and the beam confuse, I think it was Anaheim's fault. They weren't really all that innovative. Sure they had some great ideas, but they built suits for the profit, not the advancement, the only time they really innovated was when they thought it would make them more money. B.E.S.P.A. was a think tank that was bent on making the best weapons possible, so they weren't concerned about money, just power and efficiency.)

MID, buddy, you healed us once before. Think you can do it with brain damage, too?

No! You won't let Zeheart win! You won't let the fate of everything come down to a single fight! Closing your eyes you summon all your hatred, all your anger, every drop of will power and focus on one thing.

Moving the beam saber.

Your seizure abruptly stops and you can feel an intense pain unlike anything you've ever felt. It's like your seizure, your power, is a wild animal that's now biting into the flesh of your mind. However you push past the pain and take control of the beast known as your power.

"I'll show you...what a REAL X-ROUNDER CAN DO!" You shout as the beam saber is pulled into the small hand of the sub arm, allowing you to swing up and slice the hands of the Ghirarga, sending the spear flying back into the reactor pit.

Zeheart doesn't even have time to deny what you've done as you ram the beam saber through his cockpit, vaporizing his cybernetic ridden body.

Blood oozes from your nose, ears, and eyes as you fall back in your seat, realizing you've won. However you feel tired and weak. You try to move your body, but you can't. You try to speak, but you can't. It's hard to see and it's even harder to hear.

However you can feel so much! The deaths of the battle going all around you, the confusion and horror as Zeheart's spirit passes from his body, leaving regret and sadness in his wake as you realize he was a pawn this whole time.

You hear MID call out to you, but you cannot answer. You feel the explosions of the ship around you shake your body. You see the cockpit ripped open and Asemu, one eye gouge out of his head, climb into your cockpit and pull you into his with the assistance of MID who has taken control of your arm.

You watch as Asemu flies you and MID out of the ship as it explodes around you. He barely flies to a friendly ship before a brilliant blue beam barrels through the remainder of Vagan fleet.

Well, at least we killed Zeheart. Whatever else happens, we've ensured that he won't be a threat in Gen 3. I call that a win, even if we're paralyzed now. And hey, Kamille only took a few years to recover from a Newtype overload, I'm sure Dirk will be up and active again soon enough. Especially if we can figure out a way to communicate so we can get that mind-machine interface built for us.
>>
>>28891366
You feel lost, terrified, and wondering if you'll be stuck like this forever. However you feel something warm and calming amongst all this death and destruction.

In the distance you can see Rena riding on top of Flit's mobile armor as the two of them fly back to Big Ring, ;leaving the ruins of the colony, the Dagon, and the spirits of many of your comrades behind.

You don't know what will happen now, but you have a feeling that for all the horrible things that have happened, all the friends you've lost, and your current state, you've taken the first step to stopping a dark, dark future...

(And this is where we'll end things tonight! Thanks for playing everyone, I'll see you guys next time)
>>
>>28891480
So just Rena and Flit survived over there? Jesus.

Thanks for running Crosswire.
>>
>>28891480
Woo! That was a fun ride. Now hopefully we can leave all the random body horror behind us (Seriously, there was alot of it. Too much, IMO.)
and do something constructive: Like Time Travel Shenanigans!
I want to capture a Gelgoog!
>>
>>28891480
This was a great chapter, Crosswire. I would have liked it if we had gotten a bit longer of a dramatic battle with Zeheart, but this still turned out really nicely and kept me on the edge of my seat. Now I just need to calm down enough that I can go to sleep. It's getting late here, and I'm way too hyped to get any rest. Hope you can do better. Have a nice night, Crosswire.
>>
>>28891548
What do you mean? Aside from MID replacing our arm (and the shenanigans he pulled when he popped off those couple of times), there hasn't really been much body horror that I've noticed. Did I miss something important?
>>
>>28891532
Wait, who else was sent to destroy the colony?
>>
So, Dirk is a vegetable, Asemu lost an eye, only Rena and Flit survived the battle to stop the colony drop, we lost Akito and who knows who else from the Woolf team...
Man, tonight was dark.
>>
>>28891576
Thanks! I was hoping for the same thing, but I kind of screwed up my own plans. Still, I'm glad I kept you all engaged!

>>28891618
Yeah I'm a little confused on that too.

Not yet. We still have Scarlet's battle to go through. After that maybe one more thread to clarify the aftermath, and then we'll get to the Time Travel Side Story. You guys are probably going to need a light hearted adventure before we can get into Gen 3.
>>
>>28891638
Man, Gen 2 is just about at Victory Gundam levels of character death.
>>
>>28891618
We also got shot that one time, but I think that's it.

>>28891630
Desil and his team, Flit, Grodek and the entire Dagon team including Yunoa and possibly Emily, and a lot of grunts.

Man, wish we could've saved Akito. Facing Flit and his family will be a nightmare now.
>>
>>28891618
Dirk got his arm shot off and I'm pretty sure he hit Zeheart with it. Mid grabbed Zeheart and pulled out his eye and other bits, think he did it a couple times. Asemu randomly has an eye missing now. I might be forgetting some.
>>
>>28891688
And we still have Scarlet's part to complete, and the aftermath.

>>28891664
Can we, you know, just spend some time in Gen-2 to sort the remaining plot hooks? With Asemu facing Flit and all that?
>>
>>28891722
>Dirk got his arm shot off and I'm pretty sure he hit Zeheart with it.
No, you're thinking of Shiro Amada from The 08th MS Team. Also Dirk got shot by Zeheart on two seperate occasions, and IIRC, by someone else at least once.
>>
>>28891693
We don't know they're all dead. There have to be some survivors from the Dagon's destruction that got to lifepods. So I'd bet Emily and Grodek are still alive. And hey, maybe the reason Yunoa isn't with them is because she's assisting the rest of the Magnificent 7 rescue the pods. There's no reason to think we lost all those named characters.

Okay, I know I'm being overly optimistic, but I can't believe that EVERYONE that went there died except for Rena and Flit. There were two ships with crews in the thousands, there are going to be more than two survivors.
>>
>>28891733
Dear gods... this is despair horizon levels of crap here. I worry who will be the parents of Gen three Crocker with Dirk in his current state.
>>
>>28891786
Also remember what happened in main canon, when the Vagan ship was destroyed and all it's escape pods and survivors hid on earth.
>>
>>28891722
Ah. We have different definitions of body horror, then. As I see it, body horror is invasive violence. Things worming their way under your skin to eat at your flesh from the inside, that sort of thing. Regular violence and dismemberment is traumatizing, but without that element of being betrayed by your own flesh I can't call it horror. By my standards, the only body horror was when MID ate the stump of Dirk's arm to get at raw nerves and fuse with them. And we didn't even have to see that part, so I don't care too much.
>>
>>28891824
Build Fighter Dirk and Gunpla Builders Rena.
>>
>>28891837
Ah, probably then. There's a good chance I just misused the phrase in general too.
>>
>>28891852
Nope. Can't be them. AGE suits aren't allowed in Build Fighters. Something to do with toy licensing, I don't know the details. Besides, I think using the AGE Builder would count as cheating. You have to use some official model kit parts, fabbing your suit entirely via 3D printer is against the rules.
>>
>>28891899
Actually, I think it has to do with broadcast rights. They aren't up yet for the dudes who showed AGE, so they can't use the material in Build Fighters or something.
I think the AGE Builder would actually make the suit weaker, seeing as suits get stronger and shit based on how well they're made and designed by the builder. Still, Dirk would be like Sei and be some super nerdy Gunpla Builder.
Gunpla Builders though, who gives a shit. Beginning 30's parts were all 3D Printer fabbed.
>>
>>28891786
We'll see when Dirk wakes up. Hopefully we have more than two survivors, especially considering how there's some plot to be resolved there.
Man, I'm still bummed over Akito. We won't have a Gen-3 Asuno to bug now, nor a grumpy admiral messing with the kids.

>>28891824
Well, we have insane Emily running around. No need for Dirk to be awake to have a future Crocker.
Fuck that's creepy.

>>28891899
Broadcasting rights. The contract with the TV station that broadcasted AGE hasn't ended yet, so AGE is out of BF until then.
>>
>>28891973
Isn't Girl Asuno still alive? Also Asemu is still alive. Maybe we can get Asemu and Girl Asuno together and make a Super Asuno!
>>
>>28891973
What are you talking about? We'll still have a Gen 3 Asuno. Kio's all set to be a Leviathan-raised test tube baby. Not to mention whatever kids Yurika has. As for the next generation Crocker, we still have Scarlet. Hopefully we'll still have her, anyway, we've got another thread to go before we can say for sure. We were throwing around the idea of having a ScarletxAsemu pairing being the parents of our Gen 3 pilot, it doesn't really matter if we wind up changing the name of our protagonist from Crocker. The family line has already passed down through a name change, after all, if we're right about the Arthur thing.
>>
>>28892002
Or Scarlet and Asemu. Two ACE PILOTOs with X-Rounder families will probably create some sort of psychic god pilot.
>>
>>28892002
Yurika? No idea at the moment.
And the line > all the friends you've lost implies there're more casualties than we know of.

>>28892051
I wouldn't mind playing Dirk's and whoever's unlucky enough to marry into the family's kid.
We started as a Crocker, we'll finish as a Crocker.
>>
>>28892002
No. Bad. No unknowingly incestuous pairings, I'm still bitter over Kira and Cagalli (I don't care that it was an obvious retcon, that reveal still ruined my enjoyment). We'll hook Asemu up with either Arisa or Scarlet, and Yurika will be with...we don't really have any named male characters our age anymore, do we? Uh...we'll pair her with, I don't know, Wivik? Like, Asemu goes off to be Captain Ash and winds up introducing the two of them at a pirate party as a result or something? Yeah, no, that's kind of dumb. I'll think of something and get back to you.
>>
>>28892137
Dirk, if Rena ends up with Hunter for her family's sake.
