You all have one, that one mini you love because it does things either with surprising efficiency, or simply succeeds at shit it is not supposed to ever get away with.

Mine is my Riptide, his name is Fisty. Not because he is great at shooting stuff (he has a very spotty record of actually hitting anything), but because he does shit that makes me go "This isn't a jumpsuit, it's a Badass engine".

It started with him going up against a monster hunting space marine flyer (the one with the assault cannon and not much else). My broadsides utterly failed to kill it the round, and my ion accelerator missed like a bitch. All I had was my fusion lance (yes, I give him earth caste targeting and a fusion lance).

So I figured "why the fuck not" and shot it at the offending flyer. Not only did it hit, got past the jink save, and it penetrated, causing the flyer to explode and crash ON THE RIPTIDE.

Who then proceeded to ignore the damage, walking away from the explosion like a badass. Yes I Imagine him jumping up, cutting it in half, and riding the parts down to the ground.

The Great tale of Fisty continued, against a hoard of bugs. For a miraculous change, the rest of my shooting managed to crash his Flying Hive Tyrant (I always call them Flying Red Bastards), instead of shooting it to death, Fisty decided that he wanted more. He charged in (after nova-charging his shields, he isn't entirely stupid). The tyrant proceeded to MISS all of it's attacks, and then get smashed into the dirt by a large metal boot. Fisty then proceeded to charge into a Tervigon, eight termagaunts, a genestealer and two warriors. He took zero damage and killed them all with his lightsaber.

This is how Riptides should be played.

All riptides should be Fisty.

Xavier and Manaan. Two terminators who held Temple Hill against the Necron Advance. By turn 3 their whole unit had been slaughter (arriving at the hill on turn 2, in the middle of the battlefield.)
The enemy commander, deciding to end the two veterans, fired 24 gauss flayers and a Particle Whip at them. They lived.
The enemy commander, frustrated, turned the whole of the weaponry of the Monolith, 10 Immortals, and 24 Necrons Warriors at them for turn 4... And turn 5... And turn 6... By the time the game ended at the end of turn 7, the Veteran Manaan and Xavier still stood proud. With the 16 shots they fired since turn three they had slain 9 or 10 necron warriors, while the Monolith was destroyed on the bottom of the 6th, so focuesed was it on the Terminators, that it did not notice a squad of bikers with melta bombs riding up on it.

Manaan and Xavier earned the Imperial Laurel in that victory, proudly displayed on their storm bolters. And to this day, whenever my necron friend see those laurels he looks at me and slowly shakes his head with a scowl.

My own tau command squad, eager to spill the blood of the Astarte dreadnought, bravely landed behind it, unleashing all their fire power upon it. Two plamsa rifles, two fusion blasters and a burst cannon hammered into it, but alas, it stood tall admist the barrage. Then, the lone gun drone opened fire with its pulse carbines. Perhaps the armor had been weakened, or perhaps it was luck, but the massive dreadnought exploded under the small disk's torrent that day.
He now goes to battle on a 40mm base decorated with dreadnought wreckage.

Or prehaps it was the lone hazard suit. The lone, nameless hazard suit pilot, the bravest of the brave. He landed with a crunch admist the middle of combat, and turned as venerable brother Giuseppe roared his challenge. The two warriors clashed, one made of metal, one made of mettle. The warrior dodged each clumsy swing, and dealt a single mighty blow to the box, destroying its legs in a shower of sparks. The machine roared as the suit blasted off, before being demolished by the broadsides uncerimoniously.

Mine is a standard Space Marine Sgt. No special weapons, just a bolt pistol and chainsword. His name is Sgt. Slaughter.

His legend starts in a match against the Grey Knights. Mordrak and his ghost knights charged him and his four marines, who were guarding a point. All four marines die in the first round of combat, but Sgt. Slaughter evades harm. On turn two, he beats Mordrak like a rented mule. He proceeds to defend the point, on his own, from an Assault cannon Razorback and a 6 man strike squad. He ended up destroying the Razorback and bending the strike squad over his knee. When the smoke cleared, he was one of the last three remaining marines alive. And the only one to complete his objective, achieving a narrow victory.

To this day, he has never died in battle and has a pile of honors earned killing the enemies of man. Too bad only a handful of squad mates ever survive a mission with him.

Or prehaps the broadsides themselves. In a skirmish with the disgusting orks, they took cover in a ruined building. There, they were put under an unbearable amount of fire power. One of two suits, and the pair of drones was blow away, leaving but one shas'ui. He sat there, holding back an entire horde of boyz as he is pounded by three kannons, a full squad of lootas, and over 40 shootas. He weathers all hits against him as he holds the line against the green tide.
The tau have had many great feats of bravery. The broadsides defeating the vanguards (pre-ap3 swords) with the hazard suit, the stealth teams near suicidal drops
I could go on but I won't.
>>
>My colonel and his command squad get charged by a squad of storm guardians
>seeing this, an infantry squad comes to the rescue from a nearby building

>in a couple of turns everyone is dead save for the colonel and the Wraithlord, who can't be hurt
>the colonel survives this 1-on-1 until the end of the game

And thus my officers became dedicated swordsmen by fluff and crunch (could give them +1 WS at the time)

My favourite was in fantasy. I ran my Giant and a couple of bases of snotlings into a sledgehammer block of Chaos Knights, lead by a Lord of Khorne, Daemon axe, shiny stuff all round, Army General, the whole shebang.
The plan was to have the snotlings hold the knights for as long as possible while I frantically rallied my army. I figured if I was incredibly fucking lucky, the Giant might Yell and Bawl, and it'd take the frenzy off the knights.

Oh no. I realised that that wasn't just a big horse. That was a daemonic steed. In the old rules daemonic steeds had the same rules as ridden monsters, to wit - you can decide which one you're attacking in melee.

"I'll attack him!" I say. One rule query later (I helpfully point out the passage in the Warriors of Chaos book for him), and it's accepted that I use the "man sized target" table.

"Pick up and..."
"Go on then. you get an attack against me to stop me. Cause a wound I do sod all to you"
"Hahaha, with a Daemon Axe of Khorne? Easy man."

Yeah... he failed. My giant (who was well known to have caused more damage to my own army falling over than to the enemies'. Any enemy.) reached down, picked up the Lord of Khorne... and ate him.

My giant now has a Daemon Axe of Khorne (with a Bloodthirster trapped inside it) as a toothpick.

I'm sure somehow my Lord of Tzeentch had something to do with it... but I left him in a carry case at home that day...

one of my first games ever played w/ IG after the valkry was shoot down behind enemy lines there my command squad of the commander and his fox-caster budy stood in the ruble of what once was their transport and rest of the squad. But if this wasn't the worst part there stood a 3 man terminator squad right in front of them whom found cover behind a building trying to prevent lascannons to make them implode. The terminators looked smiled and started runnig, well running they moved. But the commander and his last man were faster while the terminators were moving upon them they aimed their weapons and fired their almeighty lasgun and laspistol, the captain of the squad dropped to the ground so did the guy behind him wich left one terminator, the commander saw that last pumped up smurf standing there and charge it to kill it in one blow before the terminator could swing his empowerd fist into the direction of the commander he lied dead on the ground beside his battle brothers. Since than the commander and his vox-caster both have a golden lasgun and laspistol.

What really happend is that we understood the rules wrong wich made it even more glourious we tought that you could make not only a armor save but a involn as well, my friend managed to roll 2 ones out of 3 shooting attacks for his armor and not getting a 5+ for his involn either. Than i assaulted him to kill him with the 3 attacks my commander had at a higher initiative than his power fist.

It was a glorious day for the emperor

He goes "the lucky nob" and I have given him every possible award bit that exists in the imperium, ork, and tau armies. He is a cybork 'ard nob who is frequently seen in my green tide lists accompanied by his maxed out mob of cybork 'ard boys.

His first battle after his squad was blown apart around him in a turn he survived 9 shots from leman russ main battle cannons, 8 las cannon shots, 18 auto cannon shots, and a few hot shot lasgun shots only to run. Then he survived about the same amount of fire the next turn and passed a leadership test the next round only to charge into and kill creed just before the game ended.

He has since accomplished so much more but I will always remember that day...

scout corporal Ulysses Hadrach. Space marine battle brother. Every game his entire squad ends up dead to the man except for him where he then proceeds to tarpit like a motherfucker and hold the line against every threat the galaxy can throw against him. I've had him hold an objective point against an entire unit of dark eldar beast masters with full flocks of razorwings for 5 turns. him dodging 15 attacks each round and returning a wound on them ach turn with only his combat blade. he survived the explosion of his landspeeder storm and then proceed to charge the 10 man squad of stealth suits that had done the damage and battle them for four turns until he finally made his check to hit and run and he booked it back so that I could then murder the unit with a blast from my thunderfire cannon. He refused to give in to the dirty psychic trickery of a unit of three zoenthropes trying to convince him to murder his squadmates. three zoethropes casting hallucination three times over three turns where the squad either denied the witch or made their leadership roles. he is my main man, I always, always include enough points for at least one squad of scouts in every list I make because he is such a badass.

A few models have this uncanny luck in my collection.

I had one Stormboy Nob Go toe to toe with Abaddon and not die, even almost killed him. Same game he killed three Cultist Sergeants, a CSM sergeant, The Masque, and a Slaanesh Daemon Sergeant(?). He has since been rebuilt to show his Orkiness. In other games, he has also killed a Librarian Smurf In terminator armor, two more Tactical Sergeants and even a Nurgle Fly Rider.. He's only lost Combat Once, against a Dark Angels Captain. Since then I have given him the name: "Kommizar Skrull"

Then there's my Veteran Grenadier Squad who Jumped out of a Valkyrie onto a roof and shot a squad of Fire Warriors to death with shotguns and grenades and captured an objective. I've now started to make an entire squad of them to commemorate their maneuver.

I just LOVE it when I get to see others use my OC.

It makes me feel all happy inside.

As for badass moments, my squad of Hammernators in 5th Deepstriked behind some Tau lines, of which they were forgotten about because of the FUCKHUEG Land Raider distraction.

So, while they shot at that, the 5-Man squad waded through two Fire Warrior teams and wiped out a Kroot Carnivore Squad attacking my Thunderfire Cannon. Amongst all of this, the Hammernators went down to just the one Sergeant, the Thunderfire techmarine, and Vulkan He'Stan who joined up with them from the Land Raider.

Now, at this point, the local TFG decided to stage a "divine intervention" since we had both destroyed our troops in an Capture/Control game.

6 MP/PR suits. 3 RG Broadsides. 2 Hammerheads. And the three guys. And of course, it was during his Shooting phase.

The funny thing is, no one died! I rolled each save individually, one after the after. The suits fired at all of them at once, and all them 2+ saved helped a lot...

They both got pissed at me and joked that I used loaded dice. But they were so happy when they wounded Vulkan.

But it was a fun game.

Not my own story, but my friend's.

He was playing his first 40k game back in 4th edition, playing against Ultras kitted out with lots of plasma. Surprisingly, plasma guy didn't roll a single Gets Hot! all game. Friend's IG gets demolished, save for his Leman Russ. That tank held the line like no other, cutting down two Predators and a Rhino plus all occupants. By the end of the game, that tank was immobilized, front pintle and one of the side sponsons destroyed, but even as his army crumbled around him, that tank held the line.

It suffered an unfortunate accidentlater, getting stepped on. Me, being the master of conversions, have offered to lend my considerable skills into repairing it for him. Forgetful as he is, I'm going to coax him to pack that stricken beast during college break so I can fix it during my free time next semester.

"Dat's not 'ow ya pop a 'umie wagon!" yells my foot nob with 1 wound left.

See this motherfucker right here? He's Killsaw, he's named that cause he kills things with his saw, but not just any things, dead 'ard things. His list of kills currently are: 1 wraithknight (after 4 turns of combat), 2 daemon princes, 1 typhus, 1 lucius, 1 pimped out chapter master, and 3 carnifexes. This all has happened in 6th Edition, where MCs should be ripping his arms off and punching him full of holes, but he has held on and put up one hell of a fight.

Also, I had a grot tank, 40 point model, tankshock a riptide and run the fucker down.

in general stuff I kill I tend to add to my army. I have finished looting a dreadnaught, a sentinel, and a defiler. I have a backlog right now of a couple things I still need to finish converting, but the next thing I'm adding to my army is a dreadknight; pic related, had a big mek take him down so he grabbed the sword and decided it was time to be a boss. It's da Empra's Choppa, he gots it from beatan up a silvergit's emprah.

Op here.

This is the story of Red Squad.

Red quad started off as a group of stealth suits I bought off a friend. They didn't match my army coloration but the scheme was so good that I refused to strip it. It was a deep shiny red.

The first match they were in, they proceeded to gut an entire squad of terminators with burst cannons alone, then trash another tactical squad in close combat.

They then later on took on an entire squad of ork boyz in combat, won, and ran them down. You don't screw with red squad.

>>
I don't have a story about a mini of myself, but a mini of a clubmember that has achieved glory playing against me and my friend.

It was a doubles tourney, and a friend and I were playing ogres and dwarf gunline. We were up against 2 warriors of chaos deathstar lists, both with the anti-shooting banner.
The entire game just mostly existed of us shooting the shit out of their units before they got into range. Eventually one guy's unit managed to get close, severely wounded. He charged some leadbelchers, and everyone one the unit died... Except for one Chaos Warrior.
He survived the attacks, killed some ogres, and managed to win the combat on his own. My friend failed his leadership test and ran.

However, all his units except for one were all in range of the battle or were in the path of his escape. The lone Chaos Warrior didn't manage to run him down, so instead a mass of panic tests had to be made. And he failed all of them. All his units except for one started to run away, and most of them immediately hit the table edge. The one that didn't ran away across the entire table, managed to not rally and then ran off the table the following turn.
One single Chaos Warrior wiped almost an entire ogre army on his own.

Of course, that was pretty much all that was left of their units, so we still won in the end by completely wiping them. We immediately told him to keep the lone Chaos Warrior apart and name him, so he did.
>>
My favourite was during one game with my friend, I was getting truly RAPED (Eldar, he was marines, i'm awful). My SS Exarch had ripped apart a Rhino on his own, only to get killed by the Tactical Seargant (rolled horribly). Meanwhile my Fire Dragons had blown up another Rhino, and then melted most of the leftover squad.

After a few more turns nearly my entire army is dead other than one Striking Scorpion and my squad of Fire Dragons, now only three left. I say fuck it and charge his snipers, kill them all, but now only my Exarch (passing the morale test), and as I really don't care, I charge a last squad of three Tacticals. All Dead.

tl;dr A Fire Dragons exarch solo'd two squads, one scouts, one tacticals, while the rest of my army died like chumps.

>Playing GK
>Small force, some basic inf, termies, and a Nemesis Dreadknight
>force getting shot up by Blood Angels, melee everywhere, brutality
>Mephiston kills everything except the Dreadknight
>K... my turn
>Charge Mephiston
>lots of hits, wounds, squished to a pulp
>Consolidate towards his predator
>His turn, pred fails to his, he charges the Dreadknight with his assault-reens.
>he proceeds to get butchered, lose the combat, fail init check. Sweeping advance! Dreadknight consolidates closer to the pred, quickly becoming one of his only good units
>My turn, Dreadknight charges predator, oneshots it.
>his last squad of marines fire everything into the Dreadknight
>0 failed saves, but they're out of range, no way the dreadknight can reach them...
>fire heavy psycannon. No scatter. No failed wounds. Entire squad rolls 1s and 2s on their saves.

And that's how my Dreadknight, henceforthed named Stompy, won me a game by pulping almost a thousand points in the last few turns of a game. Since, he's been well known for his sudden and devastating rampages once the rest of my force gets weak, so he's been (unsuccessfully) focused many times.
>>
I have a flamethrower marine who became a chaos champion over the course of several games. One of his first fights, he killed a rhino with a lucky hit and I gave him a piece of hull plating as a shield. Since then he has survived literally every match I have fielded him, staying with my army when I went from vanilla marines to chaos back in 4th edition. I put a notch or a gouge in his shield every time he almost died, and believe me he has a lot of them. Shortly after the chaos conversion him and a squad of champions with way too many flame weapons wiped out 3/4 of an IG army in close combat, and after they did the same thing to SoB I had to mount bayonets on their flamethrowers. They do not fuck about and are one of the hardest units I have ever seen in action.

Additionally I have a pair of staplegaunts that trashed a squad of terminators in CC.
Their squad of 20something got hit by a whirlwind, and had termies deep strike on top of what was left. The 5 survivors shot back, kill 2 of the 5 marines, and after the charge all that was left were 2 staplegaunts and a lot of corpses.
I gave one of them a shoulderpad as a chewtoy, the other one just has claws added to his stapleguns.
That same game, one of my genestealers got his rending claws upgraded to a pair of scratchbuilt can openers for what he did to that whirlwind in the meantime.

Last, and perhaps least, the space marine sniper scout that shot my opponent's last ultramarine in the back as he fled the battlefield in terror, in one of the most beautiful kills I have ever seen.
>>
Had one very recently.

I was playing Tau against SM. Turn 6. He was first. Targets a team of fire warriors and shoots. There was only 3 Space Marines, and 3 Fire Warriors. 2 of the Fire Warriors die, and the last Fire Warrior roll insane courage (2 1's), and stays.

So my turn. I just had him charge the 3 space marines. Had lost the battle anyway.

So, the lone Fire Warrior with a pulse rifle succeeds his charge. Gets the +1 attack, and makes 2 attacks. Since the to-hit table is borked, his 2WS is still enough to hit at 4+ against a Space Marine's WS4.

The 3 Space marines start, hits with 2, wounds with 1 and I save it. My Fire warrior is still alive.

So I hit both of the attacks. And wounds. And the marines then fails their armour saves. He rolls for leadership, and rolls double 6s. He runs, rolls a 1, and I roll a 5, taking down the last marine in a sweeping advance.

It was glorious.
>>
>>28855505
you cant sweeping advance space marines, ATKNF means that they just get locked in combat again.
>>
>>28855505
Seriously? Aw man, that's too bad. Oh well, don't have SM armies, and can't possible remember all their fucking rules.

But that's kinda bullshit, to be honest. Why can they run, when it means absolutely nothing that they get caught? Normally the entire point of wanting to succeed is that you don't get killed in a sweeping advance. Without that, why do they even run in the first place, and why do they actually have leadership, if failures doesn't mean anything, anyway?

Aside from Fear, of course.

For Space Marines it's actually beneficial to love the combat when they get charged, if they're not wiped out during the combat: Afterwards they can auto-regroup, shoot at the squad and THEN assault back.

It's fucking stupid.
>>
Company Master Tankred (he endures).

So let's see what Tankred has endured

>charged by 30 ork boys with a single wound left
Stays locked in combat for two hole game turns passes around a hundred total armor saves. Kills enough Orks so they loose fearless break, and then sweeps all of them.

>Charges Swarmlord, swarmlord fails to hit and wound Instant Deaths the swarm lord with the Monster Slayer of Caliban

>survives 3 lascannon hits by the grace of his storm shield.
>survives an enemy orbital bombardment, centered on himself.
>Beats a Deamon Prince in CC after being reduced to 1 wound in the previous 2 fight phases

He has not died in literally any game I've played with him.
>>
>>28857138
No shit.

Not even sure I'd call it stupid. More like illogical.

"HEY WE GOT CHARGED, HALF OF US DIED, FUCK LETS RUN."

"PHEW WE GOT AWAY, LETS SHOOT THEM NOW. HEY, WHY DON'T WE CHARGE RIGHT THE FUCK BACK?"

>>
>>28857165
Fall back, regroup, shoot the enemy, and then assault on their own terms.
>>
>>28857204
But that's not what happens when you fail a leadership test. Then you run, because the enemy scared the shit out of you.

The only moment that really stands out was when a Single Ork Nob in a mob of Sluggaz in a Trukk killed seemingly half an army.

On Turn one (after opponent) he tore bounced across the board and slammed into Combat with Sicarius and killed him in a single round of combat, the next turn he lopped the heads of 3 Terminators while the rest of the boyz finshed the last of them. He then then got back in the Trukk and zoomed off before killing four out of 5 assault marines

Everyone watching was cheering him on much to my opponents ire.

After the game, I went onto eBay and ordered some bitz, remodelled him to a much bigger Ork Nob body and now hanging off his boss pole is Sicarius's helmet with three terminator heads decorated with a chainsword.

love it.

Back in 4E I had some good stories. I was Vanilla SM fighting my buddy with the glory days chaos dex. Tooled up Demon Prince, 2 Bloodthirsters, Defilers shitting all over my day. Feelsbadman.jpg The Demon Prince of his would regularly solo our entire army, and if we did a 3 way, he'd take out both. Turned out years later we learned he took an extra 100 points of wargear on accident, but anyway. I'm getting ruined as usual by this thing. It charges my assault squad with chaplain. Everyone but sergeant goes down immediately. Sgt has fist and the old combat shield. (I think 6++ in cc). Manages to survive for 4 rounds of combat, rolling sixes like I worshipped satan, meanwhile plinking a wound or two each time. Finally brought the immortal fucker down, and my buddy couldn't believe it. To this day he HATES that model.
>>
3E, I had a jump chaplain assault a conscript squad.

I don't remember the special character, but there was a 3E commander for the guard who let you take conscript squads of 50 men for a troops choice.

Well, this fucker I was fighting against had six squads for a total of 300 motherfucking guardsmen, in a 1500 point game.

That chaplain and his two assault marine buddies who actually made it to the enemy lines (and weren't zott-ed to death by the lascannons and fucking flashlights of doom like all the guys in rhinos were) proceeded to kill the Commissar special character and his 50 best friends over four rounds of melee without taking a single wound.

It was beautiful.

Unfortunately, they couldn't consolidate into another combat once they won, and were promptly zott-ed to death.

>>28857569
Which is a good thing really, people need to play like this more than playing to win.

I'm getting into tabletop 40k with an Ork army and played only 5 games so far. I'm mostly in it for the hobby aspect and kustomising the shit out of my Orks. My current list is 500 pts composed of whatever I got done to some degree and includes a Looted Wagon.

Said Looted Wagon is particularly lucky, having survived 4 out of 5 games. For some reason, all objective-based missions were rolled as Big Guns Never Tire, so it just stood next to a point, blowing stuff up with the boomgun.

One game vs CSM it kept dodging Blastmasters the whole time and although rest of my army was slain, it gave me the only point that game.

Another time, against IG he rolled slowly towards their line, their attention drawn by a mob of footsloggaz. When the 4 autocannons finally fired at him, scoring a pen and a glance, 4+ cover saved both on sixes.

Another game against same CSM. Boyz actually manage to slaughter the noise marines, when a Chaos Lord arrives from outflank on a Steed of Slaanesh and moves towards the Wagon. Being alone, the Wagon has to fend for itself. Boomgun misses horribly, but the rokkit launcha hits and blows the lord to bits.

A game against SoB. Boomgun shell lobbed at a unit of sisters with Saint Celestine scores five wounds. Celestine saves 3, gets blown up at 4th, resurrects and lets a sister explode. As the game nears the end, all my boyz were killed due to a dumb mistake I made. But the Wagon stands (next to a point, scoring it of course). Celestine makes an attempt to get in charge range. Her heavy flamer does nothing. Another boomgun shell, she rolls 1 on her 2+ save. Now an (Un)Living Saint.

So yeah, 2 games in a row it saved itself from enemy warlords. I guess I'll have to name him adequately.

I once had an Orcs & Goblins vs Elves game (I was playing Orcs but both armies are mine) where the Orcs were in possession of a Rock Lobber. This Lobber proceeded to be the only thing on my side that could kill people, while the Elves tore my Goblins to shit and the Orcs were getting nowhere, but when they did they destroyed the Elves.

The part came when a unit of militia spearmen were stood waiting to come in, and the Lobber hit smack bang in the middle of the unit. The guy in the centre of the template took a S9 hit, while everyone else took S3. The Elf hit by the S9 tanked it like a fucking boss, while everyone else died horrible gruesome deaths. We viewed it like the rock shattered on his helmet and all the bits flashed out and killed everyone around him.

I never really viewed him as anything more than a joke, but after this thread I have the urge to put busted up catapult ammo around his base and a dent in his helmet or something.

Because he wrote the 5th edition SM codex, and is a convenient scapegoat to hate popular things (Spehss Mahreens).

Like half the complaints that /tg/ has about Space Marines, specifically Ultrasmurfs are not even true anymore (or were never true).

Spiritual Liege? Nowhere in 6th Ed. SM Codex.
Mary sue shit for the smurfs? When was that ever even there, the book outlines more of their losses than their victories.
HURRRR DA MAHREENS ARE OP. Since when? They are a flexible army that is good for people starting off, but they take years to master as they can't really specialize in anything particularly well. They are not a spam army, unlike a lot of armies in 40k

Speaking of....

Both of my moments happened in the same game. This was a long time ago, back in 3E, when the Tau were a starry eyed new faction. No stingwings, ethereals still made everyone commit seppuku, and so forth. I was playing my humble guard army.

So both of us roll for first turn and I end up getting it. He had two squads of six stealthsuits on one flank, both squads very (VERY) close together. First shot of the game I fire at them with my Bassilisk. Place the pieplate to cover the most suits possible, of course, and roll for scatter.

Dead on hit. 7 of his twelve suits, a good chunk of his points, are wiped out in the first shot of the game. The survivors proceed to fail morale checks for most of the game and are generally useless, leading to much cackling on my end.

Now, part 2 to this tale is guardsman bob. Guardsman bob was proudly defending the imperium's trenches with the rest of his squad, when the railgun shots began raining in. Sabbot rounds from a hammerhead and regular railguns from two broadsides. Most of guardsman bob's squad was wiped out by the sabbots. Guardsman Bob though? Guardsman bob took shots to the chest and kept holding the ramparts. Rarely have I seen so many 1's rolled to wound. Five straight turns of shooting, and guardsman bob was only wounded once by the railgun.

He passed his cover save on that wound, and proceeded to kill a crisis suit with his lasgun. Guardsman Bob received many accolades for his heroic endurance.

>Playing a battle of 1000 pts, my guardsmen versus my buddy's orks (5th edition rulebook)
>I go first, but cannot into shooting and so the orks are relatively unscathed.
>He goes, his deffkoptas tear through a veteran squad.
>Second turn, still cannot into shooting. Deal very few casualties to his boyz, but manage to take out one deffkopta with two more to go. They pass their leadership.
>Friend goes, and this turn he somehow manages to shoot, chop and stomp all of my guardsmen.
>All I have left is my CCS... with Straken.
>My turn. Shoot and tear his deffkoptas from the sky without taking any hits.
>His turn, he charges two squads of boyz into my CCS, I lose everything except Straken, who proceeds to annihilate every ork who looks at him funny while passing every armor or invulnerable save, and catching every ork squad to assault him in a sweeping advance
>Straken chews through everything and finally gets to the Warboss, grouped with three Nobs. He deals a wound each, and suffers two wounds.
>With fire in his heart, he slays the three nobs and brings the warboss down to near-death, but the warboss catches Straken with the last of his strength and kills him.
>tfw Straken kills every ork single-handed down to the warboss, whom he almost kills.

The Tau have a lot of reasons why they don't exploit the warp for power. There are also a lot of arguments for why they are at a disadvantage for not exploiting the warp. This example was not one of the latter.

Sure you could become a vessel for daemon or get sucked into the warp...

I have a chaos cultist that was able to take down a full squad of DA, thanks to hiding in a tower and sniping.
