You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and... you should probably be running right about now.

“I am Iolithae Septimian. We are the Excrucians. Listen to us and be saved.”

Yeah. Running is definitely a good idea.

You grab Ajani and Gloria by the shoulders and pull them away from the door. The walls around you, already covered in spiderweb patterns of cracks filled in with glittering ice, are starting to shake.

“We are-“

Gloria reaches across you and slaps Ajani in the face with the flat of her sword. He stops mid-word, seems to snap out of his daze, and then doubles over and coughs up some blood and what looks like a tooth. He stares at the two of you in confusion.

“Fuck - ow - what the hell?”

“Just run!” You grab him and shove him down the corridor towards the exit, silently praying that the walls will hold long enough for you to escape. Gloria is close on your heels as the three of you run down the dark corridor, bursting into the larger room that you originally entered by. You can hear a crash from behind you as part of a wall gives way and the ceiling of the corridor begins to fall in. In front of you, the two frozen husks look as though they’re starting to break free of the ice pillars they were trapped in. A stiff, desiccated hand claws in your direction. The door out of the warehouse is right in front of you, but there’s a pair of rapidly defrosting zombies between you and your escape route.

A perfect, clear tone rings out behind you, setting the walls shaking again. “Coriander, they’re getting away.”

“Yeah, yeah. On it.” The grumbling is punctuated by a sharp, loud crack and a blazing streak of light as something punches through the wall a few feet away, crosses the room in an instant and punches through the far wall, leaving only an afterimage of orange light and two fire-ringed holes in the walls. Going back is definitely not an option.

[]Ignore the husks. Push past them and get out.
[]Get your blades out and cut your way through. You can’t risk them grabbing onto someone and trapping you.
[]Look for another way out. All the walls around you are starting to crumble - maybe you can make your own door.
[]You’ve already been spotted - nothing to lose from using more of your magic now, right? See if you can turn the tables on your pursuers somehow.

They may know we're magical, but they may not know what kind of magic we are. Better to keep that hidden until we can get more support from the Man.

Get Gloria to take point and to slash the outstretched arms of those husks with her flaming sword.

When flaming it cut through the husks like a lightsaber through butter, and since everything is already coming down it's not like the extra heat is going to cause the warehouse to collapse faster.

You push forwards, trying to keep your head down in case another incendiary bullet punches through the wall. Gloria is pulling Ajani along behind you. She frowns as she spots the husks, and gestures with her sword, but you shake your head, pointing at the door, and after a moment she nods, tucking her sword away somewhere and dragging the still rather dazed Ajani forward as fast as she can.

With a quick backwards glance at the collapsed corridor, you plunge towards the door, trying to shoulder-barge the waving zombie arms aside. You push past the first husk, but the second one lunges its whole upper body forward, shoving you sideways. Your foot skids on a patch of ice and you tumble sideways, slamming your shoulder against one of the pillars of ice.

"Aaagh! Okay, new plan. Gloria, a little help here?"

There's a hissing noise and the husk that was trying to grab you collapses, its head cut from its body in a smooth swipe of Gloria's flaming sword. With an agile leap, her white coat suddenly fluttering out behind her like a cape, Gloria springs over you and rams her sword through the heart of the other husk, causing its whole body to ignite in a burst of flame. You're soaked by the sudden rush of water, and then left coughing by the collapse of the husk into a pile of ash, but you're free. Gloria reaches down and helps you to your feet, then goes to pick Ajani back up, when there's a massive explosion.

You look over to the pile of rubble blocking the corridor you just fled out of, to see a cloud of steam and dust blocking your view. As it starts to settle, you see a hole punched cleanly through the rubble. A red-haired man in a black military-looking jacket stands in the gap, an old but extremely well-polished rifle slung over one shoulder. His voice has the gruff but friendly Cockney lilt you heard before.

"Hey, now," he says, strolling forwards with a wide grin. "Sit down, and let's sort all this out, shall we?"

The man with the rifle keeps strolling casually forwards as you pick Ajani up off the ground and bolt out of the door, Gloria using her sword to carve a hole through the warehouse's fence. He calls out from the doorway as you dive through the hole, trying to avoid the hot edges of the hole.

"Oi, get back here. I said... goddammit. Fine. Whatever."

You could really do with some help here. Whatever these people are, they're exactly the sort that the Man in the White Suit warned you about, the people he told you to alert him about if you so much as saw them. And now they're... yep, they're firing at you. Another sharp crack and a glowing orange light whistles past your head, slamming into the side of the building ahead of you with a burst of flame. Is he even listening?

"I'm a little busy at the moment, kid. What do you... oh. Hell. Go left."

The connection drops. Go left? What the hell kind of advice is - fine. You grab Gloria's arm and swing left, into a short alleyway between two tall buildings. Another flaming bullet explodes behind you, but the corner of the building shields you from most of the blast. Ajani is up on his feet now and running along behind you, pulling his own sword as you burst out from the alleyway and see a familiar figure in the middle of the road in front of you, a tall, cloaked skeleton with a crown of ice and a two-handed sword.

Great. Out of the frying pan, into the fire. Or possibly the other way around, considering the flaming bullets. Either way, this isn't helpful. Ajani and Gloria step forward, raising their swords.

"What do you want now?" Ajani shouts. "Your friend with the rifle nearly killed us already - are you here to finish the job?"

"He is no friend of mine, little child," the Winter King replies, "nor of any who walk this earth. He has killed many of my minions and destroyed my base. I would oppose him if I could, even if it aided you."

Ajani falters a little, clearly confused, and you step forward.

“Isn’t there anything you can do, your Majesty? Even to slow him down a little?”

The skeleton pauses, thinking for a moment. “It would be difficult. If he wills it, I cannot bar his way, not against that rifle. But I can perhaps distract him for a time, send him chasing shadows. A Deceiver is not himself immune to deception. For taking such a risk, though, there would be a price. A favour given, a favour owed in return.”

“Chris, what the hell are you doing?” Ajani whispers. “You can’t really be thinking of bargaining with that thing, can you? Surely you can’t be serious?”

[ x ] keep running, try to convince him to help you and himself
"Then good luck with to you with them. You will be helping out yourself at least as much as you are helping us by distracting them. I am in no mood to make open-ended shady deals with court kings."
Keep running. If the king decides distracting them is really benefitial to all, then good. if not, we gotta do what we can. I dont want anyone else having such control over chris. The man, spring king and all the other shit is troublesome enough.

"This isn't one of your fantasy tv shows or movies, Ajani; this is the real world and realpolitik.
"You said it yourself, Your Majesty; he is an enemy to all. Limit the favor only to be of equal worth and danger, and only apply to something directly related to fighting or running from our pursuer, and we can have a deal."

"That doesn't sound like such a good deal, your Majesty. He's right behind us, so distracting him helps you too. Anyway, we really need to run. Good luck!"

You turn and race down the street, back towards the centre of town. After a few moments the sound of pounding feet behind you tells you that Ajani and Gloria are catching up. Ajani quickly overtakes you, waving to catch your attention.

"I had an idea!" He shouts across to you. "If we split up, he can't catch all of us, so one of us can warn everyone else. I'll meet you at the same place we met before, yeah?"

Wait, hang on, that's never - dammit, he's gone. You look over your shoulder for Gloria, only to see her dive down another alleyway in the opposite direction from the one Ajani took.

[]Just keep running. Let them fend for themselves.
[]Go chasing after Ajani. He's going to get himself killed if he gets any more bright ideas.
[]Go after Gloria. She's the better fighter, if it comes down to that.
[]Try something tricky ((Custom))

You swerve to the side of the street, grabbing a handy ladder and quickly hauling yourself up to the rooftop. You can't immediately see anything - these buildings are wide and the alleyways between them narrow - but you feel like your elevated position ought to give you a much better chance of seeing what's going on and spotting Coriander before he spots you. Wherever he's gone. You can't actually see any more explosions at the moment, either.

The roof under your feet begins to quiver. You look around, trying to find the source, or another way down. It looks like there's a fire escape on the far side. You run towards it, the corrugated roof shaking with every step. Nearly there. Nearly...

You're falling. Darkness. The darkness rises up around you, engulfs you.

You sleep.
