You tell the head that you do not blame him for the incidents that occured, but hope that they will provide a lesson to future brothers and sisters about being prepared for any eventuality. he nods in agreement.

"Before I leave, I do have good news. I hereby award you this medal, to commemorate your bravery, faith, and skill in a time of crisis and great danger." He reaches into his pocket and hands you a golden pin in the shape of a sunrise, with a white ribbon. "I also am honored to promote you to the rank of Inquisitor Fidelus."

From now on, you will have your own private quarters in the Holy Palace, with which you may do as you like. Also, your rank puts you at the top of the list for priority assignments, and allows you to propose missions to the elders. I see greatness in you. I hope to someday leave my office in your hands."

You thank him humbly, and he takes his leave. A few minutes after, Anna returns with ham, eggs, bread and juice. She doesn't ask for permission before taking up your fork and serving you your meal.

You eat quietly, and even give some of the ham to Leman Russ when he begs. The meal is good, but not nearly as good as the one last night, but you can attribute that to not having eat in weeks. After, Anna goes so far as to wipe your mouth without asking, which you respond to by looking her in the eye and calling her cute. She shoves the napkin in your face and buries hers in your stomach. When you ask what's wrong, she merely pounds on your chest with her fist while making a strange, high pitched noise.

You tell her that you are somewhat excited by the prospect, it being a new experience for you. She replies, saying that she's finds the idea to be quite lonely. The only times she's slept alone were the worst times of her life, which is why she loves to cuddle with Leman Russ at night. You apologize for bringing up painful memories, but she assures you that it isn't a problem. It occurs to you now that the head inquisitor informed you of the privileges of your rank earlier, and that one of them included being able to hold others in reserve for your assignments. This would mean that Anna would have to ask permission from you before going on any missions that didn't involve you. It would also deter any other officers from requesting her, now that she is an official member of the church.

A) Mention this. You don't want to see her in danger like before, ever again.
B) Keep it to yourself for now.
C) Forget about it. You don't own her, and she's proven herself capable without you.

You stay quiet regarding your realization, putting it out of your mind. The next few days pass basically the same, with people occassionaly coming by to visit. Diane and Andre swing by and talk about how Diane provided spells from a distance during the battle, while Andre helped thin the crowd that was coming after you. You apologize for causing them trouble, but they say that they couldn't live with themselves if they hadn't gone to find you. Scipio comes as well, and you introduce him to Anna. He gives you a huge slice of pie from a bakery in town, as thanks for helping him get out of that mess. You share it with Anna after dinner that night.

Now you have been permitted to walk around the grounds of the palace, and get your strength back. Anna has to return to training or risk getting rusty. You have the day to yourself, and you spend it:

You head to the clerics' study and ask to take out a tome to read elsewhere. The librarian is skeptical about it, but when you inform her of your rank she changes her tune. You then proceed to the garden, and find Anna. She is practicing her sword strokes, and you tell her that you wish to watch while you read. She is slightly embarrassed, but agrees to let you watch. You crack open the tome and read quietly, glancing up to see her now and then. After a while though, it becomes difficult to divide your attention efficiently.

After watching Anna train for a while, you figure she's got things down pretty well and decide to focus on the verse. As you read, you notice that the passages have become somewhat easier to comprehend. It's not as though you've learned any more about reading them technically, they just sort of click much more easily than before. It's relaxing, in a way. You continue to read a few pages, but as you do you suddenly notice that Anna has gotten a bit closer to you than she was before, and her shouts when she swings are gradually getting louder.

Amusing as it is, you need to focus on the verses. You drown her out with your thoughts, and continue reading. You get to a page you've never seen before, which tells the story of two saints who cleansed an ancient city of criminal overlords with the help of a local thief. The story is intriguing, and so much of the subtext is spilling out in front of you, up until you feel something weighing on your back. You turn your head and see that Anna is trying to read along with you, though the furrowed brow suggests she isn't doing very well. Her weight, though slight enough, begins to hurt your shoulders a bit, and makes it hard to concentrate on the verses.

A) Ask her to stop
B) Close the book, and see what she wants
C) Shrug her off
D) Continue reading as best you can

You thumb the page you're on, and shut the cover. You look up at Anna if everything is alright. She says that all is well, but seems disappointed. You offer to help her with some of the more difficult passages, which considers briefly and then agrees to. You skip back to the first page and turn until she tells you things get hard. She points out page 4. You've already managed to get to page 52 without problems, and 77 before it becomes too difficult to comprehend. IF you help her, it's going to be an all day job.

A) Tell her to read aloud from page 4, correcting her as you go
B) Read silently together

Reading aloud is how you help anyone learn to read in any language. We should read some out loud too though.

I don't know why we would be disturbing others in the garden, but I suppose a change of scenery to somewhere a little more comfortable wouldn't hurt either. I could go either way with this.

You realize that reading out loud in the garden could possibly disturb some of the others here, who are trying to relax or have conversations of their own. To this, you propose finding somewhere where you can be louder without annoying anyone. She concurs and stands up, helping you to your feet as well. Leman Russ paws at your leg, and you kneel down to rub his ears. Will you:

A) Head to the study. Nobody goes in the back, and clerics always use it to study
B) Head to the cathedral. You've heard the bishop say that the verse really comes to life beneath the visage of the sun.
C) Head to your room. You know it must have a desk, and you haven't even seen it since your promotion.

Also. is it just me or does being a Inquisitor just feel....off for some reason.

Like we would be more suited to being a Cleric if we read more.
>>
>>28738351

I think we're kind of multi classing a bit here, learning magic from clerics and lifting with the paladins. Inquisitor doesn't seem like a bad place for a jack-of-all-trades type, they're in the middle when it comes to the kind of equipment they use I believe.
>>
>>28738351
I think our character has the potential skill to use the best of all classes. I mean we easily learned spells (heal especially, since we did it before any training), we got one paladin spell of strength and we are agile and stealthy.
>>
>>28738276
>B) Head to the cathedral. You've heard the bishop say that the verse really comes to life beneath the visage of the sun.

Bah, we aren't just an inquisitor or an paladin or a cleric.

We like a red magic except we can be master of all instead of master of none.

We got the Killy of inquisitors, the spell for strength from paladins and the healing from clerics.

We just choose Killy first to focus on. And it spews a good choice because now we can do survive future battles with trump cards that is magic and our brand back.

Seriously, start experiment with that shit, start using spell with that back.
>>
>>28738380
I think paladins are in the middle.

They get magic and they fight.

But inquisitors fight much much better but they get barely any magic if they GOT magic.

What up with that shit anyway.
>>
>>28738276
Question, do we still have our rough and manly full beard? Or at least a badass 80s action hero stubble?
>>
>>28738415
No.

Shave that shit off.

We get an beard once we get old.

Really old.
>>
>>28738428
>>28738415

I think we can be bearded when we're Bishop, which I doubt we'll see during this quest. But a bit of stubble could be earned, we've seen some shit by this point and almost died a few times.
>>
>>28738380
>>28738382
>>28738393
I mean personality wise. The comment a thread or so back that we don't seem like the harmfull type, but we have blood on our hands makes me think Inquisitor isn't right for us.

Sure we can still learn all three branches, but that doesn't mean all three fit our personality.
>>
>>28738413
my impression was that, by analogy, if clerics are the "mages" of the church and paladins are the "warriors" then inquisitors are the "rogues".

not that we've done much sneaking around or sniffing out heresy.
>>
>>28738456
Well, I kind of agree. Altough I think we chose inquisitor more for the sneaky and agile part than the whole 'murder the infidel' thing. Maybe we are the odd one in the inquisitor corps, but eh.

>>28738463
I think class wise you are correct, but I mean, we did some stealthy stuff while in combat, just not much outside of it.

You tell Anna to put away her training sword, and then make your way to the cathedral. When you arrive, it's completely empty, as you've hit the hour between morning and noon prayers. Most townsfolk don't come in until dark either, when their work is done. The three of you settle in one of the pews and open the tome again. This time Anna leans on your shoulder, looping her arm under yours. Leman Russ spreads himself out beneath the visage, where the sunlight enters the high windows. You tell Anna to begin reading aloud at the beginning of page 4, correcting her as she stumbles. Occasionally you read entire passages for her, asking her to repeat them as you do. Through this, you manage to get all the way to page 12 before she can't understand any more. You tell her it's okay, and that you had just as much trouble starting out. She nods, but still looks like something is troubling her.

You assure her that you'll attend, and then brag about the gorgeous gown you've gown picked out, complete with silk gloves. She laughs and calls you a fool. You continue reading from the tome until around noon, when the bishop and his clerics enter the cathedral to begin noon prayers. You and Anna join them, and while you kneel before the sun's visage you feel Anna's dedication in her words. She is certainly not the same girl you knew when you first came to this city last spring. When you finish, you can feel your stomach rumbling and invite Anna to get something to eat. The two of you eat, and are joined briefly by Scipio, who is taking a break from his training. He says he hopes to see you out of your bandages and back in the weight room soon, and that he has a new routine lined up that will get you from looking like an acrobat to having as prodigious a build as him. He says this while gaudily flashing his biceps and pecs. You laugh and eat, and drink some pain relievers given to you by the cleric afterward. At this time, you really feel in the mood for a bath and a change of bandages, and you tell Anna as much. She agrees that you do smell a bit, but says that it will be hard to re-wrap yourself, offering to help you.

You agree to meet her after your wash to help you wrap yourself back up. You tell her to wait in your room, and give her the key to your door. She takes it and goes of with Leman Russ, as you make your way to the bath. The water is hot and soothing. You think you heard somewhere that the clerics pour some sort of mixture into the baths that helps relax people who soak in them. When you unwrap yourself, you see that most of your injuries are coming along quite well considering. You still haven't gotten your normal physique back, as much as Anna tries to force food down your throat. As you lean back in the bath, Andre enters covered in dirt and grime. You scoot to the other side of the pool and say hello. He greets you kindly while using a bucket to rinse his hair, and tells you about the rough job he just had. His arm isn't back to full, and so fights lately are fairly rough, even with a new saber. While talking, you get on the subject of the festival. Andre mentions that he and Diane go every year, against his will.

"I'm going to go out after this and pick up some new clothes. Most of the brothers and sisters just wear their dress robes and parade armor, but Diane insists that we dress up special for the occasion. It's annoying, but she likes to blend in on the dance floor."

After your bath, you emerge, and dry off. Your skin itches. You need to apply some salves before you wrap yourself, or else the wounds will itch and dry out beneath the bandages.

A) Apply it here, before you meet Anna.

Even if it only takes a few minutes to walk from where you applied it to where you're going to bandage up, you can get sidetracked on the way. Some asshole will want to talk to us or we'll be bumped into, something will happen that will rub it off and cause us problems down the road. And our clothes will be nasty which will make us feel like we need another bath.

I really don't care if we apply it or if she applies it, but it needs to be applied in the room right before the bandages are on.
>>
>>28739348
>>28739409
Then we apply the salve right before she puts on the bandages. It's really that simple. She doesn't need to do everything for us.
>>
>>28739430

Fair compromise, we apply all we can in the room. We're still injured, if we have difficulties applying it in some parts (like our back) she can apply it, but only if it's too much hassle for us. Sound good?
>>

Then don't vote for applying it right here, instead vote for applying it in our room right before she bandages us.

You say goodbye to Andre, putting on your boots and robes without tying them. This makes them look more like a dress, but it's not as though half of the Clerics don't wear them this way anyway. You make your way out of the bath and walk down the halls to where your room is supposed to be. The people in the halls don't seem to notice you much, but you do feel a bit self conscious walking around like this. Normally your belt ties around your waist, giving your chest a more buff appearance, but the combination of your thin profile and the loose robe is enough to make you pick up the pace. You arrive at the door and find it unlocked, just as you expected. When you enter, you see a fairly large room with a great gold and dark yellow rug bearing the sun's mark. Naturally. IN the corner is a desk that seems to have a few small shelves built on top for books. The tome you checked out earlier today is open on the desk, and Leman Russ is curled up beneath it. There is also a standing mirror, near a wardrobe of dark wood. There are two windows on the opposite wall that face down into the garden, but which currently have the shades drawn. Finally, there is a bed large enough for two, with two stuffed mattresses, down pillows and a white sheets. There is also a large fur blanket folded at the foot of the bed, for colder nights. Anna lies face down in the pillows, and doesn't even raise her head when you come in and shut the door. She remarks on how soft the bed and pillows are, and how she wants to gain a rank just to have something like this to sleep on. You walk over and sit on the edge of the bed, reaching into your bundle of clothes and items for your fresh wraps and salves. Wishing not to take her out of the moment, you begin rubbing your arms with the medicine. It's cold and a bit slimy. As you do you hear here shifting, and then feel her come up behind you. She takes the pot of salve and begins talking as she assists you.

Cont.

>>28739519
She goes on about how she wants to learn to use two sabers like Andre, since he always seems so graceful with them, almost like a dancer. While you rub your calves, she does your lower back. When she touches your brands, you cringe and ask her to be more gentle. She apologizes and tries to use only the tips of her fingers.

"The burns are almost gone. You can't even really see the face of the sun anymore. I guess the clerics were worried they'd get infected."

This disappoints you somewhat, as you found it quite empowering to be able to use your own body as a holy symbol. She finishes your back and shoulders as you finish your chest. She begins to wipe her hands off on your bath towel. Something odd pops into your head.

A) Finish up and raise your arms for her to wrap you

You finish up and dry off your hands, then raise up your arms to make it easier for her to begin wrapping. This becomes a tiring process as your arms get sore, and she gets tired of messing up and having to unravel and start again. After a long while, your chest and stomach are wrapped tight, and you let her do your arms. She leaves the fingers a bit looser than the clerics did, but you actually enjoy the feeling of being able to wiggle them a bit and keep quiet. After all is said and done, you feel fresh as a daisy, and hungry too. You ask Anna if she wants something to eat, but she declines, saying that she wants to lie in this bed for a while. You realize that this is probably the only time she's ever even had a pillow in her life.

You laugh and tell her that she can have a bed just like this when she proves herself worthy of promotion to Fidelus. She pouts and shoves her face into the pillows again. As you redress and open the door, you tell her to feel free to use the bed tonight, and you'll stay in your old bed. You don't need all these big comforts. She looks up at you and begins to say something, but stops herself and turns away. Leman Russ perks up and pads over to join you, presumably wanting dinner.

You tilt your head and ask if there was something she wanted to ask you, but she merely says no and bids you goodnight. You shrug and go with Leman Russ to the mess hall. While eating, you notice the head inquisitor isn't at his seat, nor are some of the other higher ranking inquisitors. You suppose they must have had something very urgent come up. After dinner you ask the bishop and he tells you that the lot of them rode out to meet another band of orcs coming to claim territory where the previous band had once stayed. The bishop says things should be fine, as orcs are violent but not foolish enough to attack the city when they are expected. Orcs much prefer ambush and surprise attacks.

After saying goodnight to the bishop, you send Leman Russ to find Anna in your room, and head to bed yourself. Your usual bed is still there, but when you lay down you notice the difference right away. You begin to miss the softness of your new bed, but eventually you manage to get to sleep.

The next morning you wake and remember that the festival is only in a few days. Perhaps you should begin preparing.

You decide to ask Anna if she'd like to go into town to browse the shops today. You've already slept through morning prayer, so you stop by the cathedral to say a few words before you leave. Scipio is there when you arrive, praying as well. It seems he woke up early, but lost track of time when he was out running and only just made it back. You mention going into town, and he says he may go himself later, to pick up a gift for the woman he's escorting to the festival. He explains that it's become a custom for escorts to give their escorted small gifts to wear during the celebration, and he's saved up a bit of money for something grand. You finish your prayer with him and then head back to your room. The halls have many more people in them during the day, all hustling to and from business. When you reach your room, you find the door locked. You knock and call for Anna to open up. At first you hear a small ruckus, but when you knock again she responds, stating she'll just be a second. She comes to the door, tying on her robes and putting her hair up. You enter and notice that she's left the bed a complete disaster. The sheets are jumbled and the pillows look like she balled them up. You set to fixing the bed, and invite her to go with you into town to buy a few things. She accepts, and says she'll meet you at the cathedral with her things. Then she grabs her boots and runs out the door, with Leman Russ trailing right behind her. When you finish gathering your things, you head to the cathedral to meet them, and decide where to go first.

As you exit the gate, you tell Anna that you wanted to see about getting some better equipment for future missions. She agrees that you could do with more. Then you ask if there's anything she wanted to get while you were out, and she mentions wanting something to wear to the party. She says she was speaking to Diane, and heard her say that she was going to buy a dress and a new coat for herself and Andre.

"I've never had a dress before, or even new clothes. You don't mind do you?"

A) "I think it'd be better if we just wore our dress robes."

You tell her that you'll buy her something to accessorize with her outfit. She smiles and leads the way to the market. The walk is hard on your legs, and halfway there Anna offers to go back, but you decline and press on. You're tired of being cooped up anyway. You get to the market, where Anna forces you to sit down while she gets something to drink. She comes back with a cup of chilled water from a cafe nearby, which you drink greedily. After she returns the cup, you head toward the armorers. You have enough gold to buy just about anything you need, but you shouldn't buy surplus if you don't think you'll use it.

You find a smith who seems skilled, and ask to be fitted for half-plate. He says he'll do it for 15 gold, and you agree. The fitting is difficult with your bandages, but he manages to get you sorted out. He tells you that he has something about right, and to come back in a few days to pick it up after he makes some adjustments. Anna buys herself new mail and hide gloves. That done, the two of you ask the smith if he knows of any local dressmakers, and he points you in the direction of the woman who apparently made his daughter's wedding gown. You find the shop, and inside are three older women who are chatty as birds. Anna looks overwhelmed by the selection, and begins sifting through everything on display. When you speak to the women, they tell you that if you plan on getting something for the festival you can't expect to get out of this shop for less than 20 gold, and that's if you just want the girl to look decent. You ponder this, but agree to split the cost with Anna when she offers. She drags you over to look at a few things and ask your opinion, but you confess to not knowing much about fashion. She asks for you to pick out one you think would look good.

You tell Anna that you know she'll look lovely in any of the dresses here, and that you'll go out to get something else while she decides. When you step outside, you think on a good gift for her. Scipio mentioned saving up a lot of money for his, and so you assume that it should be something expensive. You wander the market until you get to a goldsmith and jeweler. The door is heavy, and the interior is cool and smells of polish and cigars. An old man with thick glasses sits behind the counter, fiddling with a ring and some very precise looking tools. The room has cases against the walls, and a large display in the center, all full of shining trinkets. It seems that the majority of the works along the walls are iron and bronze works, but the center case is the brightest gold and silver. You check move over to see the contents, and narrow it down to a few choices:

A) A thin gold chain, meant to loop twice around the throat. From it hangs a small ruby.
B) A silver headpiece, made so complex and precise that it seems you could bend it with the slightest effort
C) A more luxurious gold necklace, with three emeralds in blue and green set in it
D) A golden brooch, shaped like the sun with yellow rubies set around the perimeter

You select the gold chain, and ask the man behind the counter to open the case so you can purchase it. He shuffles over on a cane, and unlocks the case with three separate keys. When he slides the glass door open, you get a better appreciation for the chain's true glimmer. He picks it up and hands it to you, and then returns to the counter and opens up a wooden box. In total, you pay 50 gold for the chain, but he gives you a signed slip of paper, stating that if it should break, wear, or need care, he will provide replacements and maintenance free of charge. The slip makes you feel a little better about your purchase, but the hit to your purse is painful. You express this, but he assures you that you're walking out with the cheapest item in the entire case.

You have him place the chain in a wooden box, delicately tied so as to be ready for display upon opening. You then thank him grudgingly and head back to meet Anna. By the time you make it back, she is already standing outside with Leman Russ. She holds something wrapped in brown paper and tied with string. You ask to see what she bought, but she says that since you didn't help pick it, you have to wait until the party to see it. She then asks what you bought while you were gone.

You decide to bring out the tome and study here, since it's already quiet and your knees hurt from being out and about anyway. The two of you sit on the edge of your bed, and you rack open the tome. Anna leans on your shoulder, and you start with page 12. You trade off reading verses, correcting Anna when she makes a mistake or gets stuck on a passage. Coaching her, you make it all the way to page 31 before she can't read anymore. You encourage her, telling her that she's already halfway to your best length. This does put a smile on her face, but she still seems sad.

"I wish I could cast spells like you and Diane. But no matter how much I read, and no matter how much I chant, nothing comes out. There has to be something I'm not doing right." You scratch your chin and think for a moment before saying:

Two things I wish we had in quests:
1) better inventory and ownerships tracking
2) better character description

Despite not having these, this thread is good, OP is doing a really nice job.

You think for a moment and say that it's possible she needs something else that she isn't thinking of. She gets up from the bed and paces the length of the room. You watch her struggle with her thoughts, and when she seems stumped you suggest that perhaps she hasn't truly given herself over to the Father of Light, and that it may be preventing her from realizing his power. She stops in her tracks, and turns to look at you. Then she walks closer, and just as you open your mouth to speak she brings her open hand across your face. You see stars for a moment, and hear Leman Russ bark a few times. When you look back and your vision returns to normal, you see that she is crying. Truly crying, as tears run down her cheeks like you've never seen. It's jarring, as every other time she's had tears, she tried to hide them from you. You try to find words, but none come. Then she speaks, through sniffs and small sobs.

"I don't want to hear you say that. Not after what I went through. Not after I spent so many years cold and alone, with nobody to even speak to. Then one day you come, and give me a life, and a home and love and people to love in return. Not after I spent months training and learning to help you realize your goal. When the head told me that he was sending someone to find you, and that you might be dead, I didn't know what to do. I couldn't even cry, because suddenly everything I had in the world was about to be gone. I couldn't stand the thought of being alone again.I sat in the dark, asking for you back. I spent all night there, until I saw it." She points outside, to the morning sun. "It came up over those mountains, right above the road you left on. It gave me a way to be with you, and to find you, and to save you. It gave me the power to steer my own life. And this," she pulls her bronze holy symbol from her robes, "let me know you were still alive. When it glowed, I knew you were there, watching me. How could...how could..."
>>
>>28744680
She sobs one last time, and storms out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Leman Russ tries to follow, clawing at the door behind her and barking. You're left there on the edge of your bed, with a sore cheek.

You sit in stunned silence, trying to come to terms with what just happened. Finally you are brought to your senses by Leman Russ tugging at your pant leg with his teeth. You get up from the bed and move toward the door. You open it, and Leman Russ darts past you and down the hall, barking as he runs. You try to run after him, but your legs won't move fast enough. Soon your legs ache, and you find it hard to breath. You curse your injuries, and consider trying to heal, but your mind is too chaotic. You keep moving, gritting your teeth and trying to ignore the pain. You come to the end of the hall, but there is no sign of Anna or Leman Russ. Do you:

B) Check the cathedral
C) Check the garden

You slowly make your way to the cathedral, panting and struggling to move as fast as your weak legs will take you. The stairs are the hardest part, as each step causes a sharp pain in your knees like daggers. Finally after a long fight, you reach the cathedral and see Diane and Andre standing before the visage of the sun. You look around, but there is nobody else in sight. You approach the two of them and begin asking if they've seen Anna come through here, but are stopped by another hand across your face. When you look again, Andre is holding Diane's arm and keeping her back from you. "What on earth did you do to that girl? She came through like a storm, sobbing and saying your name, I couldn't even get a straight sentence out of her!" It comes out like snake venom, and you see Andre motioning with his head for you to hurry out of the room.

You tell Diane that you don't have any time to waste talking, and ask if she knows which direction Anna went in. She attempts to chew you out more, but you interrupt and beg her to tell you before it's too late. She still appears angry, but she sighs and points you the right way. You limp as fast as you can, stopping for nothing on the way. You pass Scipio, but ignore his calls for attention. Finally you see the bishop who places a hand on your chest and asks you to slow down before you hurt yourself. You huff and puff, telling him that you need to find Anna immediately. He smiles and tells you that he's just seen her, and will take you to her. He leads you up more stairs and down a hall, to a great room that you recognize from before. It leads to a balcony overlooking the city and the gates to the Holy Palace. He points you to the balcony, saying he thinks you should do this alone. You nod and continue, passing a downtrodden Leman Russ near the outside door. Sure enough, Anna is there, leaning over the edge of the balcony. You can still hear her sniffling and sobbing into her crossed arms. Do you:

You walk over without a word. You can't think of any words that would sound right. She continues to cry for a moment, then pipes down. You stand still as the breeze plays with her hair. She stand up straight, still not looking at you and wipes her face on her sleeve. She then turns to look at you. Her eyes and nose are red and dry, and her hair is sticking to her cheeks. You take a step closer, and she takes a step back. You look down at the ground in shame, and speak, telling her that you're sorry. You're sorry for not thinking about what she must have been through, or even considering her resolve. You tell her that you truly believe she can be amazing without any magic, and that even without it there's nobody you'd rather have at your side. You look at her, and step forward. This time, she doesn't back away. You place your hands on her shoulders and tell her that if the Father has a plan for you at all, you're sure that she must be a part of it, and for all you know you might just be a part of his plan for her. Either way, you say, you never want to be taken from her. She begins crying again.

There are a few things that I would care about if we lost them. I refuse to call her a "waifu" but I rather like Anna. There is also are companion Russ, or maybe the very city could become a lost cause.

I never understood why some people are hellbound on killing the love interests. In this day and age where killing off important characters is so common you'd think people would want some 'fresh air'. Do things really need to go deep, dark, edgy and stoic (no love)?
>>
>>28747644
It's not really killing off the love interest that i'm looking forward to per say but the addition for more conflict within the story.

Something that gives a obsticles for a character to overcome and unfortunatly killing off a love interest is one way to do that.

I'm more interest in what those heretics or orcs or what all those other races we havn't met yet are up to and what they could bring to the table.

Hell, conflict doesn't have to mean Killing at all! It's just one exapmle of a conflict. It could become a hard winter and there is trouble feeding everyone, tensions with another city could be on the rise, hell another religion might try moving on the Sun gods turf.

Through such conflicts and overcoming them a character will grow. Like how we had that crisis of faith with the orc babies (That still gets to me even now)

It's about the journey and overcoming hardships.
>>
>>28748151
The orc babies thing was a pretty good move from OP. And about the hardships, I agree, it's just I am tired that some people, unlike you, think the only conflict comes from killing off important characters, or that no protagonist can have a love interest ever (I know quests can be derailed by waifuing, but preemptively counter derailing threads like some try is not a good path)
I am glad you are a reasonable man only interested in making the story more interesting.
>>
>>28748241
All you can do it try to be reasonable.

Though it would be interesting to see more of the land we are in. Needless to say we have not traveled a lot so there are still many places to go and people to see. Hell, this is just ONE city. It's a holy site, but is it part of a larger nation? Could our service be called upon if said nation goes to war? So many questions and things that could happen.
>>
>>28748599
I am particularly interested in the creatures and races, we know there's orcs but are the other usual suspects present too? And what kind of fantasy creatures inhabit this world? But your doubt is also very important, that village we exterminated, it could have been part of the same kingdom as ours, but what if it was part of a different kingdom, and they ignore the whole heresy thing and think of it as an act of aggression.
>>
>>28748698
What if this isn't the first time our church has had problems with them? Them trying to start a war could of been one of many such attacks to weaken our order and what if they aren't the only group?

So many things that could happen and I look forward to seeing new races. So far the only "friendly" races we have seen are human if i'm not mistaken. Hell, I would be interesting to see our first reaction when seeing a half-orc just strolling through a town.
>>
>>28749130
Yeah, so far we only met other humans (friendly or not) and orcs (enemies). I am betting we are getting one very common race (dwarf or elf) and 1 or 2 more uncommon ones.
>>

It is drawing close to sunset, and you are waiting for Scipio to calm his nerves. You've been standing around in your room for nearly an hour, dressing and helping him into his parade armor piece by piece. At one point you ask him why he chose you to help him, and he mentions nobody else wanting to put up with him. Most of the time you're in here, he paces back and forth nervously, keeping you from knotting ties or tightening bolts. When you are done, he stands in front of your mirror, staring at himself.

You tell Scipio that what he lacks in beauty, he makes up for in comedy stylings. He shoots you a mean look and goes back to the mirror, turning this way and that, fiddling with his cape, and trying different poses. His parade armor is false gold, like all paladins are given, but shines like the real thing. It is made of lighter stuff, and offers little actual protection, but it does impress folks during celebrations like this. Your own clothes pale in comparison. You simply chose to wear your formal robes, a plain white affair with a golden sun mark on the chest. You do however have different underclothes, and Diane was kind enough to purchase you a new pair of boots. Scipio himself convinced you to add some stuffing to the outfit, to make you look more regal, and it does. All in all you put the least amount of effort into your ensemble of anyone.

Scipio walks over to your desk and retrieves his giftbox. He plans on presenting his lady friend with a silver hairpin. It's not much, but it is a one of a kind piece by a local jeweler. Scipio returns to the mirror, and begins practicing poses with the giftbox. You roll your eyes.

A) "I don't think the mirror is much for dancing, friend."
B) "Scipio, listen to me. You're going to do great out there!"

You try to fluff Scipio's ego a bit, and warn him that his date won't wait all night while he primps and powders himself. He groans and throws back his head, then sighs and turns around. You nod to him, smiling. He nods back. Then the two of you make for the door, Scipio following behind you nervously. You walk down the halls, passing people chatting about this and that. Most everyone is wearing dress robes or expensive clothes from tailors in town. As you walk, you spot Andre and Diane ahead of you. They're too far to call to, but you try to follow them as you go. Eventually, you reach the Grand Hall, a great room that the Palace keeps closed except on special occassions which demand the space. The ceiling is high and ornate with murals of saints and martyrs of old. The floor is polished marble, reportedly centuries old, and according to some, cut by giants as an offering to the Father of Light. Scipio waddles into the room, nearly ready to bolt.
