On your way back to the pyramid to bring the priests an offer from the Archers' School, you've been surrounded and confronted by members of the Slingers' School. You remember that they hate the Archers. You hope they don't know where you just came from."Savior of the city?" a voice asks. "Then who will save the city from you?"> Get defensive about your new role> Get friendly. Play the innocent little girl.> Pick one of them up by the collar with your claw. "Nobody."Archives:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Scorpion%20Girl%20QuestTwitter: https://twitter.com/ScorpGirlQuestCharacter Sheet: http://pastebin.com/1667ZT3fList of Characters: http://pastebin.com/Fc2Z81um
>"They say a little manners never hurt anyone, so why don't we try that first?">Approach the nearest slinger and extend a hand>"Hello, my name is Hunzuu. What's your name?"
>>28714238Be nice.No reason to cause more conflict in backstab city.
>>28714238>Get friendly. Play the innocent little girl.Be nice. See if we can start things on good terms.
>>28714238First, Proper introductions.be friendly."I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that, am I harming it?"It's kinda hard playing the innocent little girl after the stuff we've had to handle.
>>28714238>Get friendly. Play the innocent little girl.
>>28714238>Get friendly. Play the innocent little girl."What do you mean by that? Have I somehow endangered the city?"
>>28714238You find that acting like an innocent 12-year-old can be useful. Then you remember that you *are* an innocent 12-year-old. Well, maybe not innocent. "Hello, my name is Hunzuu. What's your name?"The source of he voice drops down from a balcony. It's a white-bearded man with statuesque muscles. Like the others, he has a cord tied around his head. "We are the people. And we've been watching you, Hunzuu. You've been breaking bread with the high and mighty. The priests. The king. The Footmen. So I thought we would talk. This city has a lot of problems, I'm sure you know. What would you say is its biggest problem?> Foreign invaders with monsters of their own> The Footmen and that whole martial law thing> People finding old magic and wanting to make more monsters like you> Pazuzu. He's coming.
>>28714433>> People finding old magic and wanting to make more monsters like youWe never asked for this ;_;
>>28714433>People finding old magic and wanting to make more monsters like you"I'm not too sure, but I have reason to believe that the creation of too many monsters may result in the world being flooded by ancient beings sealed in the underworld called "Flesh Eaters".
>>28714433>Lack of trust. The reason I've been talking to so many of the powerful is because none of them are prepared to talk to each other.
>>28714238>> Get friendly. Play the innocent little girl.with a twist:--bite the tip of one finger and rotate our shoulders in that girlish 'tee-hee' kinda way-- "Why would anyone need to be protected from little ol' me?" --sweet grin breaking into gentle chuckling-- "Arrows, spears, and blades work well enough" --gesture to our wounds-- "But I doubt it will come to that. Luckily for the city, you've saved me hours of asking questions and talking to people who don't want to talk. Is there someplace we can sit to talk? What I have to say to you is not for the ears of casual eavesdroppers."
>>28714433>>28714476going for this. all those problems are indeed a major issue but the amount of hostility between each faction in the city is going to tear it apart.
>>28714433>>The Footmen and that whole martial law thingAll the other problems the city faces can be solved if the city presents a unified face. Foreign armies and monsters can be slain with cooperation ,teamwork, and superior tactics. Knowledge can be shared and tested safely without fear of reprisal by groups of equals. Even Pazuzu can be turned away if the entire city stands as one against him. But in order for any of that to happen, the Footmen must stop their brazen power play and bullying of their equals. If we are going to survive as a people, we're going to need them to lose their ego."
>>28714433"People finding old magic and wanting to make more monsters.""Hah! Like you?""Yes, like me. It's not great being like this. And this in the wrong hands would be really bad."The graybeard looks to some of his allies, and they not to each other, silently concurring. He turns back to you. "So the priests have not made you one of them. You still have a mind of your own. That's good. We know where yo come from, Hunzuu, and we know what happened to your friends. That's why I hope you will help us. Tomorrow night we move against the Footmen. They will be out in force, making sure people return to their homes after the festival for Shamash. We will make their patrols bleed. Meanwhile, their base will be weakly guarded. I will not presume to command you. This will just be a chance for you to show who you really are."> It's about time. Those guys need to be taken down a peg.> Can we maybe not make each other bleed? I could work out a peace between you two. Make a unified army.> I'll think about it, then.> I have more questions for you. I've been meaning to talk to you.
>>28714433>Pazuzu. He is coming.Blame it all on the abobination from hell.
>>28714433"Right now, all the infighting. All the other problems wouldn't be so bad if we were united; but we're not.Nearly everyone is just looking out for themselves."
>>28714608>Do you know where they're keeping my friends? I don't want to do anything that will get them hurt.
>>28714238...kindly in the future remember to include Quest in the Subject field. Thank you, and have a nice day.
>>2871460"I'll go, but why don't you come along with me?"We could sort of force a peace between the two.
>>28714608>> Can we maybe not make each other bleed? I could work out a peace between you two. Make a unified army
>>28714608> Can we maybe not make each other bleed? I could work out a peace between you two. Make a unified army.>Because, you know. The city will need one. Probably sooner than later.
>>28714608>Can we maybe not make each other bleed? I could work out a peace between you two. Make a unified army.all this infighting is going to turn out really bad.
>>28714608>Can we maybe not make each other bleed? I could work out a peace between you two. Make a unified army."I don't think blood in the streets will really help anything. Most of the Footmen are just normal people trying to make a living and keep their city safe.Their leaders are just a little... Power hungry. You know they took my friends. If you can help me find them, I can help you.Without hostages to keep them safe, nothing can protect their leaders from me.We can end the martial law and kidnappings without having to kill a lot of people and weaken our city."
>>28714608> I have more questions for you. I've been meaning to talk to you."Why is everybody always plotting against everybody else in this city? It's not like we're threatened by another city, the return of terrible monsters, or anything."
>>28714608>>28714608"Can we maybe not make each other bleed? I could work out a peace between you two. Make a unified army. You know they took my friends. If you can help me find them, I can help you."The leader's frown tightens. "You're still one of us at heart. For your sake, we'll give up this opportunity to make them bleed. You work to end the kidnappings and we'll keep trying to locate all of your friends. But we can't wait forever. If things continue as they are, there must be blood. How long do the people have to suffer while they wait for a change?"> A week. I think I've got this.> Two weeks.> A year.> As long as it takes! No bleedings or else.>>28714637Sorry, I forgot. If any mods want to change it, this is Scorpion Girl Quest 7.
>>28714750>Other"Is there anything I can do that will alleviate their suffering without blood being shed?"
>>28714750>As long as they have hostages. If someone will bleed, let it be only them, not the innocent.
>>28714750>How long do the people have to suffer while they wait for a change?"I can help change things if you're willing to work with me.They stop the other Schools from patrolling the city, and bully you off the streets if they catch you, right?Think they could bully me like that?I'll patrol the city with you. Keep the Footmen in line. It won't solve everything, but it'll make things better. It'll buy time for you to find the hostages, if I can free them, I can kill the Footmen leaders; change their School. Will you help me?"
>>28714750"I've met the footmen. The leaders are bad people, but I don't think the rest deserve to die"then >>28714792
>>28714750You propose to help the Slingers send out some night patrols of their own, showing up in person with them to dissuade the Footmen from doing anything about it.He seems to like that idea. "Taking back the streets. It's a start. What I want eventually is streets that don't need to be owned, no more curfews, only as many patrols as there used to be in the time of the last king. But this would be a start. When can you start?> Why not tonight?> Tomorrow night. They'll really not want to start anything during the festival.> Give me a little more time. I think I can get other schools to join us in this.
>>28714898Tonight.We can get the schools to join us in time.
>>28714898>Why not tonight?Festivals are ALWAYS when things start.
>>28714792Needs more combined arms. set up teams of volunteers. 2 slingers and 2 temple guards. They stay together at all times. They patrol as one. They always stay within sight of at least one other group. Two-man teams of archers sit on over third rooftop during patrols to watch over everything. I stay in the center of town. If the Footmen mass up to overwhelm a group, they can use simple whistles made of straw and reeds. I'll come running and other groups can converge. IF the footmen come for the patrols, the archers can discourage them from on-high. If they attempt to climb a building or tear it down, the patrols can stop them. Strength through different skills cooperating.
>>28714898>> Why not tonight?Everyone know that something bad is always bound to occur during a festival.
>>28714898>Why not tonight?"Why don't you come talk to the Pyramid guard. They don't like that the Footmen have taken the city at night either. If we can work together, it'll be easier.Even if they don't want to help, I'll still patrol with you."
>>28714927>archersThe archers won't help. Not unless we could pay them enough for it.But working together is a good idea in general. If the Pyramid guards are willing to join up, this could be a lot easier.Hunzuu is somewhere central, and every time the Footmen start some shit, the use a signal or send a runner to fetch her.Sounds like a good plan.
Just want to put this out there, all of the disparate factions are all but falling over one another for our support on who should rule this city state...all of them are short sighted or self important after a point. I mean when a 12 year old girl can see what's wrong like this, and see the inherent idiocy of all the layered politics and deception, it is a problem. There needs to be a proper Regent to make decisions in the name of the King until the next generation or the king gets his head on straight. Unify the army. Make the king a figure head. Create two councils (one of the priests and nobility and one of the former school heads and representatives of the populous at large) then, we eat a raw goat because mission mostly accomplished and we're probably hungry.
>>28714898"Why not tonight?""The night before the festival. It will give them some time to accept our presence, and it will mean that there will be fewer of them on duty. That will do.""Why don't you come talk to the pyramid guard? They don't like the footmen either. It could give you some more people to work with."He narrows his eyes. "Only if they'll meet us outside. We're not going into that slaughterhouse. By the way, what's that scroll in your hand?"> Oh, this. We're gonna make a deal with the Archers, too. The Archers are super nice and you should trust them!> [Lie] It's, uh, a love letter. The priests are teaching me to read, and there's a guy I like that I'm kind of shy about. I'd prefer not to share it.
>An orphaned child that became a creature of the night.>In a city rife with crime and corruption.>Where the darkened streets aren't safe for innocent people.>She will patrol the city streets and protect innocent. She will take a stand against the scum that prey upon her people and home.Holy shit, are we Batman?
>>28715058Lets go with the lie. It'll make us seem a lot more human.
>>28715058>It's a letter from the Archer's guild. I don't know what you think about them, but we need to at least try talking to each other.
>>28715058[x] "A letter from the priests to the King. Or was it from the King to the Priests? I am not sure anymore, they've been using the same scroll the entire time."Let's give them a small lie. If they think that the priests and the king are beggining to work together, they might think of joinning sooner than later.
>>28715058>Oh, this. I'm trying to make a deal with the Archers, too. They don't seem to interested in fixing things but they'll make a deal if there's profit in it.Be honest but phrase it in a way that won't stir up the rivalry. If we can.>Only if they'll meet us outside. We're not going into that slaughterhouse"That's fine. C'mon, walk back with me and you can wait down the street or something. I'll tell them you want to talk."
>>28715058Love letter sounds good. We should ease them into the whole "co-operation" thing. Having to work with too many other guilds at once might scare them off
>>28715093>>28715123Vote against lie.We could easy get caught in the lie and it would just damage our credibility.
>>28715058>By the way, what's that scroll in your hand?"I'm not allowed to tell. And I promised I wouldn't, sorry."
>>28715093>>28715123>>28715155There's a good chance the know we came from the Archers School. If we get caught in an obvious lie, it'll just make us look bad and fuck any trust we built.
>>28715166"She.... Barely had any monster parts..."
>>28715058"It's, uh, a love letter. The priests are teaching me to read, and there's a guy I like that I'm kind of shy about. I'd prefer not to share it."He cracks a smile. "You're getting to be that age, aren't you? If you can find a willing boy, good for you."You lead him and some other Slingers to the outside of the pyramid. The gatekeepers raise their javelins, but they dare not start anything with you around. When you explain that they should start their own night patrols together, the first one to lower his weapon speaks up. "I wouldn't mind. But it's not for me to say. Don't you think we should clear this with the Great Priests?"> Sure. Tell them they'll gain territory this way.> It'd be better to just do it first and then show them how well it worked. I'm blessed by the gods, right? Orders from me count just as well as orders from them.> I'll talk to them. I have business with them anyway.
>>28715058The archers gave me a deal for working together, but it involves monster trading, which the priests'll never go for.But it's my job to deliver the deal, and eliver I will.
>>28715241>a love letterDamn, I was hoping we were going FULLTRUTH.>>28715241Let's go ask them ourselves. See if the Puh-leeeeze puppy dog eyes work again.
>>28715241>I'll talk to them about it.
>>28715241>I'll talk to them. I have business with them anyway.
>>28715058"It's a letter from archers to the priests. An offer regarding the protection of an ancient ruin, nothing more."
>>28715241>Orders from me count just as well as orders from them.>Then proceed with current business anyway.
>>28715241>It'd be better to just do it first and then show them how well it worked. I'm blessed by the gods, right? Orders from me count just as well as orders from them. The priests would probably order us to backstab the slingers even if they did approve it.>>28715235It a bit worrying just how well that could describe our instructor.
>>28715241>It'd be better to just do it first and then show them how well it worked. I'm blessed by the gods, right? Orders from me count just as well as orders from them.Seriously. We are not asking for their input on this. This situation requires cooperation, teamwork and diplomacy. They SUCK at cooperation, teamwork and diplomacy.
>>28715316true enough, and I would have voted for that, if not forthe fact we would do it anyone even if they say no
>>28715241"I'll talk with them, but it shouldn't be a problem."get them going and we'll deal with the priests. In regards to the priests, we can say that the slingers approached us due to our background and we thought that by assisting them with their gripe with the footmen, we could bring another faction together for a united future...
I still think we should come clean about that archer thing.Weird to tell them it was a love letter when we could have easily gotten away with telling them about the archer thing, and how we think it's kind of a bum deal. Everyone wants darn monsters.
>>28715241"You guys have to obey me, too. You can tell them I said that. But you won't have to, because when they see how well these patrols work, they'll be proud of you and double your salary or something! Stay out here and work out how you want to do it. I have to go inside for a bit."The priests are not available to greet you. When you go around looking for them, you find Nergal-Edir, who gives you the news that they figured out what one of the relics does, and they're preparing to create another monster. He doesn't know who the lucky victim is this time.> Eavesdrop on the ritual chamber> Run in and stop the ritual! Maybe bust down a wall on them.
>>28715330Fair point. Nothing wrong with informing them of our decision. As long as we are only informing them of our decision. How much do you want to bet they try and order us to kill the leader of the Slingers, so the can take over the Was School?
>>28715405Take the most direct route to the ritual chamber.Cause a humorous disaster which mutates you further and fucks up reality beyond belief.
>>28715405wait outside of the chamber. leave enough room for if anyone needs to rush in or out of the room, but be prepared if the new 'monster' does not react well to their new form...
>>28715405Oh dear. I'm at a legitimate loss.I suppose we should eavesdrop on them at the least. But I worry about more monsters. It's a good/bad thing to have a scorpibuddy.
>>28715405>Go to the ritual chamber and ask questions.Let's not just bust in and wreck stuff, but no need to skulk outside and ears-drop either.
>>28715440Yeah, we could always go in and look. We're allowed in, right?
>>28715405Walk in.If they're making a scorpion monster, tell them about the weird dreams and the mole woman to try and get them to stop. This shit can go wrong easily.
>>28715405Take a leisurely stroll down to the ritual chamber. If anyone stops us, tell them we have an important letter for the priests.
>>28715405You wait outside the ritual chamber and peek through a crack you made in the wall during your post-transformation fit. The Great Priests and several acolytes of each color are surrounding a horse, one of your old bones, and the prisoner whose tongue didn't grow back. A red acolyte approaches them with a knife.> Bust through the wall. Oh yeah!> Yell at them to stop.> Let it happen. The prisoner doesn't seem to be resisting.
>>28715490let it happencentaurs inferior anyway
>>28715490We have to tell them about the problem with the ancient evil related to monster people. But I think they're just trying to create a centaur.
>>28715490Hey, uh, guys? Why are you making centaurs?Aren't they like normal horsemen, but unable to dismount?
>>28715490>Let it happenwatch
>>28715490Tell them to stop
>>28715490>Let it happen. The prisoner doesn't seem to be resisting. We are bringing them proposals. We dont need to piss them off.
>>28715514yeah, we haven't told them about the gods getting pissed at us yet, have we?Because, protip: The gods do NOT like this blood magic shit you are doing to make monsters. Humans aren't allowed to have it.
>>28715490>Let it happen. The prisoner doesn't seem to be resisting.Quietly slip through the door and wait for them to finish. We have a letter to deliver and by the gods we will deliver it.
>>28715490>WatchPrisoner doesn't seem to mind. Maybe we'll get a Mole-girl sidekick?
>>28715490>Go in (just use the door) and check with the prisoner. If he's cool with it, I'm cool with it.
>>28715554>Maybe we'll get a Mole-girl sidekick?Looks like thins one'll be a man-monster.
>>28715574Wait, I was wrong about the Mole-girl thing. We're clearly getting a centaur buddy. Because of the horse.
>>28715490let it happen. we don't want them in a bad mood when we bring in the archers proposal.
>>28715533>We are bringing them proposals. We dont need to piss them off.I think by this point we're mostly just informing them of our decisions. These people suck at diplomacy and cooperation. I think it'll be best for all if we leave them out of the decision making process.
>>28715611>These people suck at diplomacy and cooperation. I think it'll be best for all if we leave them out of the decision making process. And that's how we decided to become Empress Scorpion of the city.
>>28715646>>28715611well, we aren't the BEST at diplomacy or cooperation either. We've just got 12 year old friendmaking skills.More than the priests have
>>28715646We have to protect them from everybody, anon.Even themselves.
>>28715490The acolyte cuts the horse's throat. He follows by cutting the prisoner's throat, which surprises you. Their blood soaks the ancient bone, which glows bright red, then explodes in a spray of blood and powder. Everyone winces. A centaur appears where the bone had been. Both of the corpses are still on the floor. Interesting. The centaur looks around. "I return from the far country to taste the joys of the dying world again. Until I draw Ereshkigal's notice again, I am free to serve."The Blood Priest smiles and advances with open arms. "Very good! You will find us to be reasonable in our requests. There may be some battle, but mostly we are interested in your knowledge."> Go in and establish your status early as Biggest Monster.> Call to them through the crack in the wall. Maybe you can get him to like you before he realizes you're a scorpion.> Wait for them to finish, then deliver your message.
>>28715671>wait for them to finish
>>28715671Interrogate the Centaur. He seems to know what is going on.Ask him about Flesh Eaters.
>>28715671let's do that second one. Also, let's not let them do this again, since apparently they're just murdering the fuck out of people to summon centaurs.
>>28715671>Just walk straight in and hand them the letter>Acknowledge the centaur but don't give him too much attention
>>28715671wait for them to finish...
>>28715671>Wait for them to finish, then deliver your message.this guy just got pulled from the world of the dead, let the priests get the information they want, if this guy sees us he might freak out and attack.
>>28715671>Go in and establish your status early as Biggest Monster.Just say hi for now. See how he reacts.
>>28715671>Called it> Wait for them to finish, then deliver your message.>Obviously Hunzuu is Biggest Monster, don't need to point it out to everyone.
>>28715611From the look of things they've taken to skipping the part where they add human bits to the monsters. They probably decided full monsters would be easier to control. There is no way this will end in anything other than disaster.
I think I'm against them making any more centaurs. It's one thing to fuse a man to a horse, it's another to murder a man and a horse to summon a THIRD guy.
>>28715671>Go in and ask if that prisoner had done anything to deserve throat slitting.Smack someone up-side the head if needed. If you need to sacrifice someone to summon a Centaur, I'm sure it's not that hard to find a murderer or rapist.
>>28715671>> Go in and establish your status early as Biggest Monster.Channel your inner little girl.
>>28715763we probably need to smack blood priest upside the head. That fucker and his "alternative" blood generation methods, I swear.
>>28715671You wait for them to finish, worried what he'll think of you. The Blood Priest directs him to the same feast room where you had your first meal as a scorpion. He excuses himself to clean himself up before joining the festivities. The centaur goes where he is directed with an amused indifference. You follow the Blood Priest and tell him about the deal with the Archers' School. "They want monsters of their own, eh? Let them try. We already have two, soon to be three! Their magic is weak. They'll give up and sell their share of relics back to us because all they care about is money."> Also tell them about how you're making your own night patrols> Scold him for sacrificing an innocent prisoner for stupid reasons> Ask him about the centaur
>>28715789>Also tell them about how you're making your own night patrols>Ask him about the centaur
>>28715671Should we also point at the horse and ask, "Anyone gonna finish that?"
>>28715671>> Go in and establish your status early as Biggest Monster.Centaurs are dicks. Need to get him to know who's the boss of this place.Uh, besides the priests, of course.
>>28715755I think we need to lay down the law with WHO they can sacrifice.I don't have any problems with using murderers and rapists -people that were going to die anyway- to help the city.Just make sure there's no innocent people being used.We may need to slap someone around, depending on what/if that prisoner had done anything.
>>28715789>night patrols, emphasize the anti footmen aspect>ask about centaur
>>28715789>> Ask him about the centaurAlso, ask him why wasn't someone transformed into a centaur. Are these completely different types of monster creation rituals?
>>28715789Well, too late to stablish alpha dominance. being the boss of the mosnters will only do us good, really. but there will be other opportunities for that.>ask him about the centaur>Inform him of the night patrols
>>28715823as long as they don't go murdering any prisoner they happen to have just because it's handy, like they JUST DID. The fucks.
>>28715789>Also tell them about how you're making your own night patrols>Ask about the prisoner; scold/bitch-slap as needed.
>>28715789> Also tell them about how you're making your own night patrols>ask about centaurAlso, "innocent prisoner"? I guess he didn't do any crimes, but wasn't he an enemy soldier or something?
>>28715823Only if the ritual will change the sacrifice like it did with hunzuu. Well, 'sacrifice', yeah.
>>28715854he was a random guy caught sneaking around a silo and tortured by the footmen, probably personally tortured by Iltani.we should go check out that silo sometime.
Hunzuu:Ask if there were two corpses after YOUR ritual.Be displeased.
>>28715884Oh right, torture-lady. Forgot about her. We're totally going to spot her on patrol, aren't we?
>>28715854>Also, "innocent prisoner"? I guess he didn't do any crimes, but wasn't he an enemy soldier or something? The Footmen snatched him off the street and tortured him. It's unclear what, if anything, he did.Might have been a total dick or an innocent father of three. Don't know yet.Bitch-slappings may be needed as a result. We need to lay down the law with these murderhobo Priests.
>>28715930He was one of the three men who wanted/tried to invade a granary, or something. The footmen were waiting for them and took them in.
>>28715789"Come on. Please don't kill people just because they're handy. Couldn't you have found a murderer or something?""The dungeons are low on murderers. We used all they had at the time to make you. We must make do with what we have. We'll also need a lot of blood to use that blue crystal you gave us. We just have to decide on the right girl to transform. We haven't divined exactly what it will produce, but it must be powerful if the mole-thing was sitting on it."> Please don't use Tabni-Ninsun. I think she's a little unbalanced after all that's happened lately.> How about that mason's daughter you almost picked last time? She seemed all right.> This is because I disobeyed last time, isn't it? I'm sorry. I really like you. Please don't replace me.
>>28715948Or at least folks that looked like guards. They were hiding & waiting instead of actually guarding/patrolling the place.

>>28715930>>28715948>http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Scorpion%20Girl%20Quest>They claim that they were caught breaking into a granary at night, and that they were dragged into a dark room and tortured by a strange woman, but not questioned. Then they were left outside the pyramid to be used as blood sacrifices. Here, from the last thread. Now pelase, stop defending criminals, that's just bad manners.
>>28715971>but but I'm unique>also gods don't like all this blood magic>also pazuzu>no more monsters plz
>>28715971>How about that mason's daughter you almost picked last time? She seemed all right. They won't try to replace us. All that would achieve is forcing us to side with one of the other guilds.

>>28715971[x]D-does scorpion blood work? I tend to lose a lot of it. If it'll mean less dead folk.Gesture to your various wounds that we still haven't stitched.

>>28715971> This is because I disobeyed last time, isn't it? I'm sorry. I really like you. Please don't replace me.>I promise I will get the city under a unified control!Little girls are gonna little girl.
>>28715971>> Please don't use Tabni-Ninsun. I think she's a little unbalanced after all that's happened lately.
>>28716025>>28716021Some combination of these two sentiments.
>>28716025>unified control!> Our control...
>>28715979Hell, they could have been repeated offenders, and the footmen (or whoever it was) knew about them, and decided to end their days of stealing. They could even just be mercenaries, hired by the granary's owner (if it doesn't belong to the city itself) to resolve the situation. In any case, there is no need to care about the sacrificed guy, or his two complices. They were in the wrong.
>>28715971>This is because I disobeyed last time, isn't it? I'm sorry. I really like you. Please don't replace me."I'm making head way unifying the city!"
>>28715971>The dungeons are low on murderers and we need a lot of blood to use that blue crystal you gave usNo. nonono. They're going to go full murderhobo to gather blood aren't they.*raise ourself up high and go full intimidation*"No. I was made to defend this city and its people. That means from you too!I'll not let you murder innocent people just for their blood. You can wait and gather people that deserve it.I am taking the crystal and you can have it back when you learn to behave!"*take the crystal. It'll be in his work shop or something.*
>>28716050That's the idea. Being vague does wonders, sometimes.I was going to write in "Mine, if needed", but that would be too obvious.
>>28716050We have to wait anon.We have to wait until they trust us enough to all come and have a big meeting together, with ourselves as the sole neutral guard. We then slaughter them all and take over the city, telling the citizens that we have removed the corrupt government.
>>28716075That's a bad idea. Very, very bad idea, really. We could just find someone bad to sacrifice. Maybe Ku-Aya, or some soldiers from that other city. Maybe even a monster's.
>>28716098Bit unnecessary to slaughter them, since we'd have to find replacements. No, I think we're well on our way to being a Diplomancer Murder-Machine.
>>28716098Like I said, I fully expect one of their newer creations to do that job for us. We need to be ready to clean up their mess.
>>28715971This is because I disobeyed last time, isn't it? I'm sorry. I really like you. I'll unite the city for you! Please don't replace me..."The Blood Priest pats your claw. "Don't worry, Hunzuu. Just because we're making more monsters doesn't mean we don't love you! We love all our monsters the same."Your plan to guilt him into not making more monsters didn't work. So you try the direct approach. "You know that mole-woman I killed? The whole reason she attacked us is because I told her I was a human made into a monster. The gods don't like when people do that! This is gonna end badly. Also, Pazuzu is coming. That's gonna be really bad.""A lot of bad things are coming for us. That's why we have to create beings like you to defend ourselves! If the gods would prefer for us to just keel over and die, I must respectfully disagree.""Just don't use Tabni-Ninsun. I think she's going a little crazy.""Hah! Wouldn't dream of it. I'll get some guard's daughter, or one of the girls who wasn't a complete failure last time."> Change the subject. >>28716112Or the footman's guild. They wanted a way to make monsters, I say lets give it to them.
>>28716112>We could just find someone bad to sacrificeI'm fine with using someone that /deserves/ it.I just don't like that he seems on the edge of full murderhoboing just to gather the blood. If we hold the crystal, they can't use it until we let them.
>>28716124No no no, we need to choose who will be transformed. Have a friend be transformed. And we do have someone who lost a lot just recently, don't we? Someone close and experienced
>>28716140>establish dominance over that centaur
>>28716140>Change the subject. Tell him that you're making your own night patrols.>Just go find the centaur and establish dominanceNot mutually exclusive, unless we go to the centaur first.
>>28716140>Change the subject. Tell him that you're making your own night patrols.this was one of the main reasons of coming back to the pyramid.
>>28716140I swore to protect this city.I'm going to go on some patrols now. To stop the footmans guild. I'll protect it against anyone. Evil men who snatch people off the street, evil guilds attempting to rule it, other cities...I'll protect it from itself if I have to.
>>28716140Warn him we MIGHT get pretty angry if we find out he's been killing our people to save our people. That's just counterproductive. Then change the subject to the night patrol thing. It'll get our guards out there instead of the footmen! Isn't that great?
>>28716140> Change the subject. Tell him that you're making your own night patrols.> Then go find the centaur and make friendly with him
>>28716140>> Just go find the centaur and make friendly with him>> Just go find the centaur and establish dominanceBoth. Throught hugging.
>>28716140>Warn him that if he sacrifices any more people who aren't really bad, you're gonna throw a monster-sized tantrum."Remember, I won't let you use innocent people for this. once we get to the centaur, start by making friendly. WHile hiding the scorpion half."Promise you won't freak out, okay?"Also I STILL want to know if scorpion blood works for these rituals. We have so much of it.Did we even get our wounds treated?
>>28716208>Throught hugging.-Fuck-huge Scorpion monster enters room.-Envelops you in her arms and fuck-huge claws.Congratulations. You just gave him a mild case of PTSD.
>>28716269hence why it is establishing dominance.
>>28716282I like this plan.
>>28716140"That sounds fine. But no more innocent people dying for this stuff! I swore to protect this city.I'm going to go on some patrols now. To stop the footmen's guild. I'll protect it against anyone. Evil men who snatch people off the street, evil guilds attempting to rule it, other cities... I'll protect it from itself if I have to."He pauses for a moment. He might be afraid of you. But his reply is calm, "That's why we made you. And taking back the streets from the Footmen is indeed the next step. With archers helping us guard the ruins, we should have a few men to spare to back you up. And Nakurtum. She has a funny knack for survival. She might even survive the five years of service she owes me! Didn't see that coming."You leave the Blood Priest to wash the blood and bone meal off himself as you head straight to the banquet hall. The centaur seems to be behaving himself, eating a fine array of human food, drinking beer, and laughing with the guards and Nergal-Edir. You rear up and hiss at him.He breaks a leg off a chair and prepares to charge at you. "Flesh-eater!"> [fill in the blank for what you want to say to him]> Try to subdue him, though you can't do so without the risk of killing him. Roll 4d6.
>>28716291I don't know if it's the best plan but it'll be fun!

>>28716352This. All must submit to the scorpion hugs.
>>28716421From the looks of it, he's using first vote. That sucks because then what's the point of more than one person voting?
>>28716444I hope he switches over. I really do.
>>28716444I hope not. That usually means the shortest, and least thought out, post is used.

>>28716518I think it's first, unless the majority disagree
>>28716308Now that you've established that you're a big scary monster, you show your softer side. "Hi! I'm Hunzuu. What's your name!""Flesh-eater is mad. Surround it!" It charges you, and you catch it in an affectionate but supremely forceful claw-hug.He keeps swinging his chair leg at empty air. "Ereshkigal! You shall never have me! I spit in your face!" Slowly he realizes that you're not killing him. Nergal-Edir and all the guards laugh. You set him down. "I told you, my name is Hunzuu."He lowers his weapon and looks up at you in disbelief. "I, uh... my name is Soul-of-Lightning. My title is Fought-Even-As-The-Waters-Rose."> Neat! Can I have some of your food. The custom here is that the strongest monster eats first.> Let me explain. >>28716567>Let me explain. I'm not really a flesh-eater, not inside. I'm just a sweet little girl...I'm 12 and gimme food?

>>28716567"I'm not a monster. I'm just attached to one"
>>28716628and that juxtaposition is just fucking adorable.

Hunzuu: Realize you don't really breathe much other than when you exercise and talk.Hunzuu's scorpion half: Have -four- highly effecient and massive booklungs that are entirely independant of the mouth and human lung system to function.
>>28716750I laughed with joy when the Major had them scrapped! They annoyed the crap out of me.Hunzuu is mush better. Hunzuu is best monster.
>>28716736>BRING ME MY FAVORITE FOOD!>You mean the still warm remains of the fallen>YES.
>>28716736>No, that's okay! I eat human food. What can he tell us about these Flesh-eaters we're suppose to be?
>>28716736"No, that's okay! I eat human food. I'm not always comfortable with how I feel when I eat raw meat or meat from my kills...WHICH WERE AWESOME! This giant worm thing that went tearing through the market. Then I got sent to the ruins where they found what they used to make me like this and some other guys were there and unearthed this giant mole woman who started killing everyone. When she heard what I was, that I wasn't exactly what I looked like, she said she was going to show mercy and kill me...I beat her...it was tough...after it was over I tasted a little. Not the person parts on top, just a little of the mole parts that were stuck in my claw. A friend of mine died in that fight, and another was wounded, but with you here, if you're strong, fewer people will have to die!"
>>28716736> Mm, yes. Nergal-Edir, bring me my favorite food.
>>28716736>No, that's okay! I eat human food.>... well mostly, anyway>... look, I'm trying
>>28716736"No, that's okay! I eat human food." You demonstrate by eating a small honeycake off a tray. Somehow it doesn't taste as sweet as it should. You tell him truthfully about your battle with the giant maggot. The guards who were there laugh and add their own embellishments. You feel that they're very proud of you.You take the chance to question Soul-of-Lightning. "Can you tell us about the Flesh Eaters of old?I met this mole woman who said some worrying things before trying to kill me, I'm seeing visions when I sleep, and I have no idea what any of it means. I'm getting scared.""Hmm. You are the last flesh-eater, yes? Ereshkigal caught the rest." You nod. "It must be a heavy burden. Even if you do not see yourself as one of them, part of you is toward them. The flesh-eaters were proud and vicious enemies. They would not bend. They fought in the name of Tiamat even long after Tiamat was slain. I will not call them worthy opponents, though. They fought with a hundred different venoms, unworthy weapons." He passes you a jar. "This beer is good! Some crafts are forgotten by humans with time, but others only get better. Have some."> Explain why you don't touch alcohol because of your mother.> Maybe you're making too much of a deal out of it. >>28716939>Explain why you don't touch alcohol because of your mother.>"A hundred different venoms? I only have one, I think."
>>28716939>> "A hundred different venoms? I only have one, I think."Sidestep the question cutely.
>>28716939>have a little, just to try>a hundred different venoms? I only have one
>>28716939> "A hundred different venoms? I only have one, I think."> Explain why you don't touch alcohol because of your mother.
>>28716939>Politely decline the beer. Get some cooked meat.>"A hundred different venoms? I only have one, I think."Also, we do need to make it clear we're in charge. Just work it into the conversation.
>>28716974Seconding this.It humanizes us quite a bit. And then we might get venom info.
>>28716939thank him for the offer, try some and go from there... if we do find we like it, remember to not consume excess quantities... after all, we have significantly more mass than anyone else...
>>28716939>Explain why you don't touch alcohol because of your mother.go for cooked meat.>"A hundred different venoms? I only have one, I think.""It hurts real bad and then kills."
>>28716939>> "I'm a nice little girl, but I'm also kind of in charge around here. So no thank you.">> "A hundred different venoms? I only have one, I think."
On a side note. I've been thinking about our weapons.I vote we use a poison tipped spear. It'll be much more effective and we, y'know, make our own poison. We can ask Nakurtum about coating and caring for poisoned weapons. We'll probably need a sleeve to cover it when not being used. What do you think?
>>28717089I'll support it, we might even be able to produce different kinds of venom with practice.
>>28717089>poison tipped spearI was thinking we could get a sling or some javelins or a bow or something. we've got mellee poison -down-. But a bow could fuck mages from across the battlefield.
>>28717089It should work fine, I like it. Though I prefer a ranged weapon, since we are already pretty good at melee. Can't sting/stab people if they are away, can we?Anyway, a hundred different venoms. Who els ebets we need to invest social points in the dream voices to unlock them?
>>28717133>>28717162so we need to somehow get that bow back.
>>28717133A bow is nice, but it relies on our arm strength rather than our claw strength. What we need is a nice heavy crossbow that we can draw with our claws and then fire with our hands.
>>28717175not really, a human bow would work just as wellHell, a -dartgun- would be ideal.>>28717186I was going to say we need a ballista, but that's more for heavy work and less for poisonin
>>28716939You tell Soul-of-Lightning about how you used to be a human. You never knew who your father was, and your mother kept letting drink get her into trouble until she maimed or killed a man in a drunken brawl. You heard about it after the fact. You never saw her execution. She just disappeared. He seems moved. "Oh. I am sorry, Hunzuu. My mother runs in the Far Country with the rest of my people. Together we hide from Ereshkigal.""That's good, I guess. That you still get to see her. So what's that you were saying about a hundred different venoms? I've got just the one. It kills things. Slowly.""Oh, that. They would make new venoms. With magic, or maybe when they shed their skin. Killing was not enough sport for them, I suppose. Some wanted to kill with more pain, or to dishonor their enemies' bodies, or put their thoughts into their blood, or simply make the meat taste better. The flesh-eaters were decadent."> He seems all right. Ask him to come with you on your new night patrols.> The priests want to keep him here and ask him about ancient times, since he's more fragile than you. Let him do that.> Do something else in the pyramid before it's time for the first of your new patrols.>>28717186If you want a crossbow you'll have to invent one. These people haven't gotten past bows, slings, and javelins.
>>28717133I was thinking about some throwing javelins. We could easy carry a quiver of short javelins. They don't have the range of a bow but have the advantage of not taking months of practice to be effective.Using a bow would be a mid-long term project. We have a lot on our plate right now and the practice needed to use one would take away from other things.>we've got mellee poison -down-.We can always be better. No reason to turn down an advantage.
>>28717224>> The priests want to keep him here and ask him about ancient times, since he's more fragile than you. Let him do that. He's more useful that way in the long term.Once they are done with him, we get a new playmate.
>>28717224>ur cool, but also fragile. hang out in the pyramid. Hang out until patrols.
>>28717224>> The priests want to keep him here and ask him about ancient times, since he's more fragile than you. Let him do that.Puny horse man needs to stay inside or else the wind will break him. Tomorrow he should be free to do our bidding.
>>28717224>The priests want to keep him here and ask him about ancient times, since he's more fragile than you. Let him do that.
>>28717224>The priests want to keep him here and ask him about ancient times, since he's more fragile than you. Let him do that.though we should explain that we want to unify the city so no one has to suffer unnecessary violence.
>>28717224Tell him we've got to go off on night patrols. If he wants to come, he can volunteer to come himself. Also, while we're here, we should feed Mr. Clicks or console the bronze priest's daughter. Because I feel bad for her, what with all her friends dying or being spies.
>>28717224>Skin shedding. We've got two of those.>Put their thoughts into their blood. Is that mind control...?Operation Scorpion Empress is ready.
>>28717224Commune with strange voices to learn how to change/upgrade yo poison
>>28717224> The priests want to keep him here and ask him about ancient times, since he's more fragile than you. Let him do that. Also, it's his first night here, let him chill for now.>Do something else in the pyramid before it's time for the first of your new patrols.Go see Nakurtum. She might want to come or have some advice for us.
How much weight can our tail hold?If we wanted to go all out with a bow, we might hold the bow in our claws, then tie a hook to our tail and use that to draw it back. It would be a bit cumbersome at first, but six foot arrows would do a lot of damage.
>>28717224>If you want a crossbow you'll have to invent one.Shame. That would have been ideal. Bows take months to learn, crossbows take hours!Oh well.
>>28717346That sounds so cumbersome I doubt we could hit the side of the Pyramid with it.A projectile weapon that can't be aimed is useless.
>>28717224You leave him to continue feasting. He has a hell of an appetite, and also he seems intent on drinking himself insensible. "Well, I've got some business to take care of. I'll see you later, okay?""A little girl flesh-eater! I've got to get stronger if I can't break a little girl's hold. Maybe tomorrow. Hunchback, more beer!"You go find Nakurtum, who's in her room, bracing herself on a wall to stretch the muscles in her injured leg. You tell her about your plan to take back the streets and ask her if she's all better yet."Almost. I can walk without limping. Still kind of tender, though. Don't want to put too much strain on it so soon."> Aww, come on! It'll be an adventure.> Good point. Maybe in a day or two you can start helping us.> So ride on my back with some javelins or something!

>>28717417>> So ride on my back with some javelins or something!
>>28717417>Good point. Maybe in a day or two you can start helping us.any advice? we're twelve after all.
>>28717417D-do we want to let people see us let someone ride us?I mean, I'm not against it myself. It makes us more "one of the people"
>>28717417>So ride on my back with some javelins or something!
>>28717417> Good point. Maybe in a day or two you can start helping us.Get well soon.Claw hug and kiss on the cheek. We are Hunzuu. The Cute and Terrifying!

>>28717417"Good point. Give it a day or two. But do you have any advice? Th-this'll kind of be my first fight without you."She shrugs. "Well, there probably won't be any monsters this time! Just units of boring footmen. With men, it's all about psychology. You make them break so you don't have to fight them all. Sometimes men don't think much of me at first because I'm a woman. So I have to get one man to come at me first and make such a bloody mess of him that the rest don't want to go next. Making blood come out in an arc when you pull a weapon out is good. So is making them see bone. Break a leg the right way and thy'll be sick to their stomachs.""Eew. Well, thanks for the advice. Instead of the area immediately surrounding the pyramid, you decide on a rough part of town, around your old poorhouse, in an area full of citizens sympathetic to the Slingers. If we break them, our city is that much weaker.I think the best solution would be to do 'peace keeping' until the Slingers find where our friends are being kept then assassinate the leadership. The Footmen as a whole remain strong and intact but get new (less insane and dickish) leaders.

You see a few people watching from the rooftops, with slings in hand, or cudgels, or just pieces of stone or mud brick. As you'd predicted, the Footmen arrive in force, with more men than you, all heavily armed and armored. >>28720204>Shake her off and challenge her to single combatWe need to inject some order into the violence. If we just attack, it could spiral into a full riot.A Challenge of Honour. With rules and shit.If the Footmen are having second thoughts about following her and are ready to turn against her, this could be the best result we could hope for.Kill her and gain control. All the problems with them could be ended in one night if this works.
>>28720204Hm, I kinda understand her. I'm tired of diplomancing things all the time, no matter what it is. I don't mean to ge tinto a fight nall the time, but c'mon guys, we CAN get things our way by hissing or making a show of strenght/power.

>>28720281Something like that. She could be an incredible asset, and might really be infatuated with HunzuuIt's a pity, truly, so much potential wasted. Just because she can't be diplomanced and has to be killed, instead of persuaded another way.
Rolled 2, 3, 5, 6 = 16Man, I don't wanna fight her.This ruling through fear thing sounds pretty nice.

>>28720686>> Take Nakurtum's advice and make a bloody show of her death.Go in for a hug and tell her that she will still help us with one last task and then we rip her asunder.

>>28720708This, pretty much
>>28720686>Take her prisoner. Any venom sucking should be done in private.Once we've secured her in a nearby building for the moment, we should talk with the highest ranking Footmen and Slingers present. Sort some shit out. After that, take her back to the Pyramid and find out what she knows.
>>28720686Now, normally, I'd RIP AND TEAR, but think about it.We REALLY don't want the general populace thinking we're fucking crazy.Sucking out the venom, then taking her for judgement may be the best course of action.
>>28720686Bring her in alive. She's an asset.
>>28720686She is going to be a thorn in our side if we keep her alive and I doubt you can cure this type of crazy.> Take Nakurtum's advice and make a bloody show of her death.

>>28720713>>28720724>>28720729Don't you think we should learn something about the 'Monster that Monsters Fear'? That sounds important to me.Take her prisoner. If she has info, I want it.
>>28720798She doesn't really have any claws or anything. Though she is a torturist and criminal(?) so I'm for locking her up.Appropriate levels of retribution, anon.

>>28720831kill kill kill
>>28720785>>28720795And I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the way you want to achieve this is 'tell her to kneel, then suck like we're never sucked before'.
>>28720686If she yields to us>Suck out the venomIf not>Take Nakurtum's advice and make a bloody show of her death.
>>28720862actually I wanted to achieve this by shaking her off, but then you guys were all "KILLKILLKILL" and now we have to deal with an awkward situation. Thanks a lot.
>>28720831But don't you know? Humans are monsters as well. If anything she is proof of this.
>>28720831So she can catch bullets with her bare hands, run around cutting people's heads off, and plan to enslave the entire city based on this, but it's fine as long as she doesn't have claws.
>>28720764>waifuUh, nope! Nakurtum is the waifu, not this.
>>28720917it's not really -fine-, hence the caging her thing.I mean, she can't punch through walls, so it's fine to keep her in some walls.
>>28720934>implying Mr. Clicks isn't the waifu option
>>28720917>bulletsYou mean, stones? Considerably slower. People can catch arrows, btw, what is to say of rocks and stones?
>>28720686"Lock her up. I don't want any more death, but we can't have anyone causing more infighting."You bend over her and suck out the venom. This makes her sigh breathily in enjoyment. It almost makes you wish you hadn't. But you're the only one who can do this safely. The venom comes back laced with blood that gives you a little head rush. "No need to lock me up. I'll be good. I never meant to harm you, not really. I just needed to burn away the little human girl so the queen could be born. I can keep helping you. We will be wonderful together.""Lock her up."Some slingers approach her, and she only resists by leaning toward you a little and looking into your eyes with insane longing. Some footmen are already negotiating with Rihat. They're talking territory and prisoner exchanges. Rihat volunteers to be taken hostage to assure his people's civil behavior. They seem to think this is a fair idea.> Let the Slingers keep Iltani. So she's not around any of her former people.> Make the Footmen take Iltani. They're the only ones who have a base nice enough to lock someone up in.> Take Iltani yourself. Maybe the priests can turn her into a hyrax or something until you're ready to talk to her again.> Don't let them take Rihat. No more hostages for anyone. Seriously.> Tell the Footmen that they can resume total control of patrolling the streets if they stop being such assholes about it and they return all your friends.
>>28720940Or rather, you assume she can't punch through walls because we haven't put her in a situation where she needs to yet.Kill her, burn the body and bury the ashes five miles outside the city.
>>28720917Not sure about others, but I'm against killing her for two reasons.1) Going RIP'N'TEAR in front of a large crowd of civilians could have negative effects on our PR.2) She has info on 'The Monster that Monsters Fear'... That shit sounds important. If we kill her, we do it /after/ she tells us what she knows.
>>28720984> Take Iltani yourself. The fuck's hyrax?
>>28720984Can we like, use a jumbo-heavy duty monster cell in the temple to store her? Do those exist?Whichever option has the highest rate of not-escape. Not the footmen, they will let her out easy. And you guys, stop with all this territory talk or whatever. You both patrol now, and if you see each other, you're going to SMILE and WISH THEM A NICE DAY. You got that?
>>28720984>> Take Iltani yourself. Maybe the priests can turn her into a hyrax or something until you're ready to talk to her again. And maybe a spell to enforce loyalty/submission.As a last measure, we could always just use her blood; she fulfills the requirements to be a proper sacrifice. And yes, I voted to spare her. But I'm not so blind to the danger she can represent if left alone.
>>28720984Let the Slingers negotiate with the Footmen. Bring one of their representatives back to the temple for some negotiation. I'm torn between taking Iltani ourselves or letting the Slingers do it. We still can't trust the Footmen, even if some progress has been made.
>>28720984>> Take Iltani yourself. Maybe the priests can turn her into a hyrax or something until you're ready to talk to her again.
>>28721031this basically sums it up. There's no real benefit to killing her other than taking out some potential competition.
Rolled 2, 5, 1, 3, 1, 4 = 16>>28720984>> Take Iltani yourself. Maybe the priests can turn her into a hyrax or something until you're ready to talk to her again.
so, we have a creepy and dangerous stalker. Hopefully we can release her from her cage at the opposite end of the battlefield from us, and her rampage will mostly take out enemies on her way to us.
>>28720984>take her yourself, regularly check on her>tell footmen they get no hostages, but can return to total control if they return all hostages and stop being such douchenozzles
>>28720984I vote to stop this hostage shit."We're one city. We need to act like it. You see how Rihat offers to be a hostage, he is a good man. He trusts you. That trust is what we need to unify the city. If you forgo hostages, you can start becoming allies.""I'll take the prisoner."
>>28720984>Have Iltani taken to the Pyramid. Need her on hand for questioning.>Suggest agreeing on a set of rules for patrols to follow. Any School that can follow the rules can do it. If they can't, they won't be allowed by the other Schools.Let's lay down some Codes of Conduct and stuff.
>>28721115So turn the crazy yandere bitch into a mole-girl. GOOD PLAN, GOOD PLAN INDEED.
>>28721115I like this idea, as long as they don't turn her back afterwards.
>>28721192>>28721205I wasn't saying anything for the idea, just showing you what a hyrax was.
>>28721181Why not suggest mixed patrols? A single member from each of the guilds put together into small patrols. We can tell the other guilds about it tomorrow.
>>28721192Mole-girl and girl mole are two very different things.
>>28721223I know. My post was to express scorn for the idea in general.Because seriously, we need to vet people who become magical death machines.
>>28721271oh, I think the idea is to turn her into a normal hyrax, not a halfman halfhyrax. The priests did it before. They keep bragging about it.I'd rather just keep her human and in a cage, with a set of barbells and a training dummy, that cage adjacent to the city walls and ready to be released in an outwards direction at a moment's notice
>>28721224>Why not suggest mixed patrols?I like the idea but think that would be a Step 5 or something. We're just on Step 1 here. There's all kinds of Bad Blood, rivalry and financial competition between the Schools. That lever of cooperation will take time. Some day anon. Some day.
>>28721296We should find out if mr. clicks will eat hyraxes.

>>28720984"I'll take her myself. Maybe the priests can restrain her.""Ooh!" Iltani seems to like the sound of that. What venom remains in her shows up as black traces in her lips and under her fingernails, but she doesn't express any discomfort."Quiet, you. As for the rest of you, taking hostages helped get us into this mess in the first place. Just give me back my friends and work out a fair way to watch the streets at night."Iltani laughs. "Your friends? They make you weak. They let that idiot Ninurta-Nasir play you like a puppet. Let him keep them. It'll give him a false sense of security."A Footman hits her with the butt of his spear. He has blood on him, so he must have served right next to the man she killed. "We have to apologize. We thought she was just gifted by the gods. She never displayed such an open contempt for her own people before."> "My friends. Gimme."> "Mad as she is, she might have a point. We have all these goddamn footmen and slinger witnesses to attest that is exactly what happened.

>>28721409"Just let my friends go. Tell you commander that if he doesn't like it, he knows where to find me."He looks worried. "Well phrase it as a trade. Your friends for the slinger. Maybe he'll see it as a bargain. You have to understand, he can be cruel and bloodthirsty, but he's also the most experienced leader in the city. People respect him. It will be better to placate him. We can't blame him for trusting the witch-woman. We did, too." The crowd gradually disperses. The slingers even help to subdue the bystanders who were expecting blood. You, Dadanum, and all the pyramid guards escort Iltani back to the pyramid. She mumbles to herself. "Pazuzu... too big for one mind. Trying to make the others understand. Power.
