Trying again, since yesterday went poorly

You are a bright young villager who has decided to leave behind your family farm and become an adventurer! Good or you! But becoming an adventurer isn't simple. First things first, you need a destination. Adventurers are always on the road. You have a few gold and silver pieces saved up from helping folks around town, but it won't last forever so there's no time to dawdle. It's time to decide your future. Do you want to:

A) Hone your body, and master the martial arts
B) Study to learn the arcane disciplines
C) Join the clergy and become a righteous hero
D) Go into the wild and learn to commune with the spirits

Praise the Sun! You decide to head East, to the city of the Sun God. It will be a tough journey, but faith will surely guide you. You pack some food, equipment, and money for the trip. You hug your mother and wipe away her tears. She gives you a handmade scarf to remember her. Your father shakes your hand, and presents you with a wonderful knife to keep you safe. Now it's time to set off!

But it occurs to you that this will be a long trip. It could take days to get there. Luckily, you have some money. Do you:

A) Purchase a horse. All great heroes need a noble mount!
B) Hire a cart. You should enjoy luxuries while you can.
C) Walk! It's good exercise.

A) Make a fire and eat your provisions
B) Hunt and forage. No point burning supplies so soon
C) Press on until dark. Rest is for the weak!

You decide to find food nearby, and save your rations for leaner times. You light a fire to guide your way back, and head into the treeline to begin your search. It isn't too long before you manage to snare some rabbits, and gather some herbs to season them. You bring them back to camp to roast.

You cook and eat the first rabbit. A hot meal gives you strength! It's not mom's cooking though. When you go to take the second rabbit off the fire, you hear something rustling in the bushes. Quickly you put a hand on your knife and face the noise. From the thick brush emerges a wolf, licking its lips and ready to leap. This is your first obstacle on your journey. Do you:

A) Take up your knife and fight. This lowly beast will not be your demise!
B) Offer it the rabbit. Perhaps you can avoid bloodshed.
C) Slowly gather your things and run. There may be more on the way.

There's no need to seek a foe where there is none. You take the roasted rabbit from the fire and toss it gently to the wolf. He stares at you for a minute, but sure enough he begins to approach the meat. He nibbles at first, and then begins to gobble the rabbit. After he picks it clean, he perks up. He sits and wags his tail, never looking away from you. Perhaps he wants something else? Do you:

A) Stay by the fire and wait for him to leave
B) Go over and try to pet him
C) Chase him off. You've given more than enough

You approach slowly, careful not to startle it. It seems wary, but does not lash out. You softly place your palm upon it's head, and run your fingers through it's fur. It is course and dirty, but the wolf seems to enjoy the affection. Soon you are both comfortable by a warm fire, and it feels as though you have been friends your whole lives. You sleep soundly, knowing your comrade is watching your back.

Morning comes, and at sunrise you stretch and praise the Father of Light. The wolf still remains, watching your actions with curiosity. You suppose that he requires a name.

Leman Russ, you say as you snap your fingers. The wolf doesn't seem too keen on the name, but he'll get used to it. You pack your things, kick dirt on the remaining embers of your fire, and go on your way. Leman Russ follows at your heels, happily. The day goes by fairly smoothly, with only a few scrapes and bruises from the road. Sometime before sunset, you spot a cart on the side of the road. You and Leman inspect it, but all that remains is a small, heavy chest. You can't seem to open it, but you wager that with some proper tools you could persuade the lock. Do you:

A) Leave the chest. Whoever left it may come back
B) Take it. It may be valuable

You decide to take the chest. Clearly whoever this cart belonged to is long gone, and it's your duty to find them and return it. You stuff it into your pack, which weighs you down a little, but nobody ever said adventuring was easy on the back. You press on, make camp, and awake again the next morning fresh and rested.

After you praise the Father of Light, you sit down to a quick meal with Leman Russ. His appetite is astonishing, and your rations begin to drain faster than you expected. You won't be able to keep up at this rate. Do you:

A) Worry about it later. You can make it to thew city with food to spare if you pick up the pace
B) Take Leman Russ hunting. His skills will make it easy

Guuuh, that he does. Silly me. Underdog isn't entirely useless, it just BECOMES useless quickly. But yeah, Donnel is boss. He's the true "kill everything in sight" character in the game, more so than Frederick.

God, even with Bronze weapons, my Donnel just outright beats everyone at damage output, has more avoidance than everyone but myrmidons and a shitton of HP to boot. Plus he's at A rank with all of the physical weapons.

Only issue is his low caps and spears becoming useless outside of Villager. Since it takes so much effort to get him to be remotely on par, people don't like him since it's considered a waste of effort. He is excellent for pairing with healers and other squishies, though.

You decide to spend the evening hunting with Leman Russ. As you set your snares, he quickly interprets your intentions and rushes off into the brush to find prey. You yourself head off to flush some game toward your traps. Walking quietly, as your father taught you, you listen for the quietest noise in the trees. Then you hear barking, and run toward the sound, thinking Leman Russ may have found something good. However, when you find him, it's not a boar he's found, or even a pheasant, but a knight, collapsed near a river. He tells you that he was sent with others to fight a basilisk deep in the woods. He was struck with a deadly blow, and tossed into the river, and washed up here. He begs you to take his shield to his wife and children, as he won't make it home, and that you may take his sword as payment. Do you:

A) Agree to this quest, praying for the Father of Light to guide his soul
B) Pray to the Father of Light to bestow a miracle upon him
C) Help him to his feet. He's giving up too quickly!

You put his arm over your shoulder, and try to lift him to his feet. His armor is heavy, and his wet clothes don't help, but somehow you find the strength to walk him all the way back to camp. You lay him down there, and help him remove his armor so that you can check his wound. It's worse than he let on, and it looks as though it is growing foul with the basilisk's venom. You place your hands on the wound, close your eyes, and pray with all that you are to the Father of Light.

"Father of Light, he who drags the sun across the morning sky, he who gives life and warmth to the world, he who smiles upon men and allows them to drink from his chalice of love, help this noble man to see his loved ones again."

Suddenly your hands burn with holy fire, and the wound begins to clear before your very eyes. Leman Russ barks in surprise, and the knight cries in pain. But soon, the wound is much better, though it still needs wraps and treatment. You tear some cloth from the knight's clothes to make a bandage, and help him warm up with a fire. You and Leman Russ find food for all three of you, and you eat well. He thanks you profusely for your actions, and says that all his childrens children shall know of the cleric who healed him, and saved him from certain death. He says that he will retire from his position, and to thank you, bestows upon you his sword. It is a broadsword, short and heavy, but sharp. It bares the face of the sun on the cross-guard. You sleep well, and set off again in the morning. The knight slows you down, but his stories make the time go by quickly. You make it to the city, with only a few scraps of food left, and the knight goes on his way. Now that you've arrived, what do you do?

You decide to make your way, along with Leman Russ, to the Holy Palace, talking to the people you meet along the way. You walk through the markets near the gate, greeting the working townspeople as you pass. Most of them seem content, if not happy. You ask a particularly talkative shopkeeper about the Holy Palace, and the Clerics who worship there. He tells you that they have been denying new members lately, saying that too many are joining without truly understanding the teachings of the Father of Light.

Later, you take a shortcut through a back alley, and come across a sickly young girl. She is wrapped in poor blankets, and is filthy. She tries to hide her face when you approach. Do you:

With some encouraging words, you convince him to keep a stiff upper lip and not give up. He thanks you for his kindness, and goes on his way. You take your companions further into the city, toward the Holy Palace. Near the gates, you run into a Paladin, clad in gold armor, who bars your way. He says that you may only enter if you answer a simple question.

>To aid the people of the land, to help them to a brighter future
The Paladin nods stoically and raises the his sword, which causes the wooden gates to swing open slowly. You enter the Holy Palace, and find yourself in a dark cathedral. The windows have had their shutters drawn, and the torches and chandeliers which should be burning bright are dim and cold. You approach the pulpit, and hear a voice ring out in the hall.

"Ye who have come to the altar of the sun, do you think yourself worthy of The Father's divine light?"

You answer in the affirmative, and when you do, the light of the cathedral burst to life. Suddenly the room is bathed in an orange glow, and you see before you an elderly cleric, clad in gold robes, holding a gold chalice before himself. He tells you that the bishops have been watching you on your journey, and you have proven yourself noble. You have displayed the three virtues of light, Courage in the face of a beast, Compassion for the downtrodden, and Honesty when faced with a question of character. He tells you to drink from the chalice, to signify your taking light from the Father's hands. You do so, and fall into a deep slumber.

(Will be continued soon, I need to do some personal things, but I'll get back on it ASAP.)

You awake in a dark room, lit by candles on the walls. You are dressed in robes, and your things are gone. The bed you lie in is one of many in the large room, most of them bare of sheets. You get to your feet and find yourself slightly unstable, as if you have been asleep for days. You make your way to a door across the room, and when you open it, you find yourself in the cathedral once again. At the altar kneel several clerics, and the bishop you met earlier. You ask the bishop for information on the situation before you set out. He agrees to brief you fully on the quest you must undertake. He tells you that you must go to a burned building in the city and enter the charred remains. There you are to exercise the foul spirits that haunt the place, and send them to their proper rest in the sunny fields of The Father of Light. Figuring out how to do so will be the true test of your mettle, however. He also agrees to answer three questions truthfully, but then says you must be on your way.

First three questions posted will be answered completely, and honestly.

These are the ones that the Father sees as heretics, and their paths must be corrected."

You bow your head and thank the bishop for his time. Then you turn and head toward the doors of the cathedral. Once outside, you find Leman Russ and the girl outside, near your bag. Leman Russ is now wearing a drape bearing the sun's mark, strapped to him. It is clearly padded for protection. The girl wears white robes with gold accents, and her cheeks seem much more red and full now that she's had a warm bed and plenty to eat. She holds your broadsword out to you, and you strap it to your belt. When you approach the gates, the Paladin turns to face you. "Before you go, the Father sees fit to bestow a gift upon his clerics. You may choose one of three."

A) A Wooden shield, marked by the sun

You drape the chain over your neck. It is slightly heavier than it looked, but the weight feels good. You thank the Paladin and go on your way, with your two companions. On the way the girl mentions her name is Anna, and that she was too frightened to tell you earlier.

When you finally find the house that was mentioned, you see that it has indeed been burned thoroughly. The townsfolk seem to do their best to stay away from it. As you approach, Leman Russ seems to perk up and growl at whatever dwells within. Anna too, seems afraid to enter. Do you:

A) Go in alone. This is no place for a child, and Leman Russ will protect her.
B) Take Leman Russ. Anna can stay out here while you take care of this.

You tell your companions to wait outside, and keep watch for anything odd. They both seem reluctant to let you go alone, but they eventually give in to your decision. You enter the burnt house. Inside, the walls and floor are charred black, and little light finds its way in through the sooty windows. The floor creaks with every step, and once or twice gives way under your foot. You walk into the parlor, where a whisp passes through a wall right before your very eyes. You follow it around the wall, but find nothing. You then make your way upstairs, and down a hall to a large bedroom. Most likely it was the master bedroom. There you see the fireplace, the likely cause of the blaze. Upon inspection, there is a corpse half in the fireplace. The clothes and flesh have been burned too harshly to see who it might have been. Do you:

A) Approach the body to more closely inspect it
B) Leave it and continue searching the house

You reach into your robes for your holy symbol, grasping it firmly in your hand as you attempt to entreat with the specter. You tell it that it's time on this plane is over, and that it must now head toward it's eternal rest. You explain that clinging to this life will only cause him more pain and suffering. He does not seem to want to hear your words, and grows angrier as you speak.

"Why must I die for that witch! I gave her my life, and my love! I gave her my blood and sweat! Why must I walk among the dead when she lives!" he says, pointing a burned finger at the corpse in the fireplace. Clearly he is not seeing what is truly there. The spirit looks down at the burnt floor, and raises his arms in the ceremonial position of those faithful to the Father of Light. You close your eyes and let the Light overcome you. Your symbol burns hot in your hand, but you grip it tighter still.

"In the name of the Father, the Sun, and the Holy Spirits, I send you to your final rest."

As you speak these words, the specter blows away, becoming nothing but blackened dust. Then all goes quiet. However, just as you are relaxed, the house begins to shake violently. It appears that the rage of the spirit was keeping this building intact, and it is not giving in to the damage wrought by the fire. You react quickly, diving headfirst out of a nearby window, rolling as you hit the ground. Your shoulder will be sore, but you have managed to escape just as the house comes crashing down on itself. As you get to your feet, you realize that there are over a dozen people cheering and clapping. Anna and Leman run up to you excitedly.

"That was amazing! We could hear you all the way out here! Your voice was like thunder, and then there was a bright light, and you came tumbling out the window like a real hero in the stories!" Anna cries, gesturing for emphasis. Leman Russ paws at your legs, barking happily. The townsfolk continue to clap and cheer for your, until the bishop approaches.

"You have done well in your first task. Truly you bare a rare gift, my child. I have never seen one so early in his training learn so quickly to channel the Father's might."

Although you feel quite drained from the day, Anna pouts and groans enough to persuade you to go out. As you mention this to the other priests, they all agree that it would be nice to spend the night out. The bishop invites you all to enjoy yourselves while he watches the cathedral. You clean up and set off, agreeing to meet the other priests at the theater after dinner. You then take Anna and Leman to a small place recommended to you by another cleric, that is willing to serve Leman Russ some scraps from the meal. It is a rustic tavern, fully of rowdy adventurers of all sorts. They eat and drink and one ranger praises your wolf. After a hot stew and a beer, you head to the theater.

You have trouble getting Leman Russ inside, but after explaining your status the ushers allow him in. You join the brothers in the church's reserved section, where Anna sits between you and Leman Russ. You enjoy a comedy about two men escaping from an evil empire during a rebellion, and before the end, Anna has fallen asleep. After the curtain, you scoop her up and carry her home.

The next morning, the Bishop tells you that you have another mission. This time you are to search the outer limits of town for a thief who has been impersonating a priest and selling indulgences in the name of the Father. You are permitted to do anything you must to stop this blasphemy. But perhaps you shouldn't go alone. Should you ask to bring:

A) Leman Russ. He could be a valuable asset

You decide that this mission will require a bit of blending in, so you will only take Leman Russ as a precaution. You call for him, and he and Anna come from the women's chambers to greet you. Anna asks where you're off to, and you tell her that you are going somewhere too scary for her, and that she must stay here and keep a watch on the palace. She is frustrated by this, but reluctantly agrees. She fetches you your things, and you hug her goodbye. Leman Russ leads the way out of the Holy Palace, and you make your way to the outskirts of the city. In the seedier part of town, most people look at your robes with disdain. The tall buildings in the center of town seem to overshadow this place, keeping the sun's warm radiance from reaching it.

You ask around about a cleric who has been selling indulgences, but most of the people are stingy with their time. You need to come up with a way to track this man before he catches wind of you. Do you:

We are a man of the sun god so doing B is bad and doing C will end up with false information or a fight.
>>
>>28689318
These people despise us, and we don't have enough time to get on their good side.

There is no time limit and B and C can get us false information.

And B won't get us false information, if we do it right.

We need to represent our church well. This whole mission is about people not getting the wrong idea about our church.

You decide that you will simply have to win over the hearts of the people. Only when they trust your intentions will they be truly open and honest. You start small, offering to help carry boxes and heavy things, then move up to helping to clean. It's hard, but eventually people seem to trust you. After you manage to help some of the sick and wounded, the local doctor offers you a drink. You ask about the false cleric, and he says that he has been going around town on Sundays, preaching forgiveness of sin and vice in exchange for silver. The doctor also says that he's been seen at a nearby tavern, drinking and harassing the waitresses. Now you have a solid lead. Do you:

A) Head straight to the tavern and ask for answers
B) Wait and learn more. The wise hunter doesn't strike too soon, lest he alert his prey
C) Stake out the tavern and wait to spot the false cleric

You decide to gather more information before you spring on the culprit. You wait until the next day to continue your search. The people around the neighborhood seem to be taking a liking to you. Some of them ask for indulgences, to which you respond with the truth of the Father of Light, and that only through action and not coin, can we be forgiven our mistakes and brought into his embrace. They seem distraught by this, but a few are hopeful. After more questioning, you find out that the false priest is staying at an inn a few blocks away from you. One young man offers to take you out and point you to him directly. Do you:

A) Wait until night and go alone, while he sleeps
B) Trust the boy and follow him

The patrons are all having breakfast and beer, murmuring to one another about this and that. Leman Russ seems wary around them, but you think perhaps it's just him being shy. The boy says that the false priest usually sleeps until nearly noon, so you should be able to catch him before he leaves to address the people. Do you:

You tell the boy to stay back while you handle the rest. He shrugs and finds a seat at the bar. You walk up the stairs and come to a set of doors. Leman Russ seems to have a scent now, and you trust his senses to guide you to the criminal. He comes to a door near the end of the hall, and sure enough you can sense something rotten on the other side. Now it's time to face the man you came to find. Will you:

A) Kick down the door and brandish your weapon
B) Knock and demand that he answer for his crime
C) Try to sneak in quietly, and take him by surprise

The room seems empty, beside a pack filled with silver coins in the corner, and an empty night table. Time to teach this deceiver a lesson. Will you:

You tie the culprit's hands with his own sash, and bring him downstairs. The patrons look at you funny, but you bypass them without a word. Out in the street, more people stare, but nobody seems to want to stop you. You bring him all the way back to the Holy Palace, and present him to the Bishop. He and the elders decide that this man will be imprisoned for no less that two seasons for his action. Once again, the Bishop congratulates you on a job well done. Soon, Anna finds out about your return and greets you in the kitchen while you help prepare lunch. She holds up a piece of canvas, splotched in paint, telling you that she and some other children were given paints during their lessons today. Now that you look closer, the image there vaguely resembles you, but with much more muscle. Next to you is Leman Russ, shining with golden light, and Anna herself, but much taller. She offers it to you as a thank you for giving her a home.

Later that same week, you are approached by three of the other members of the order. One is a tall man in shining armor, with a greatsword slung over his shoulder. The second is a thin man in grand robes, bearing a golden holy symbol. The third is a woman in leather, wearing twin swords on her waist. It seems that all three of them have come to ask you which group within the church you plan to join, since you clearly have quite an aptitude. Time to make the next choice in your career! Will you:

A) Join the Paladins, and become a shield of the weak

You make your choice, and pledge to become an inquisitor. The woman in leather laughs, and the two men grunt in disappointment. They decide to up the anti for you, though, in an attempt to make you reconsider. The paladin offers a new set of armor, if you will pledge your body and soul to them. The cleric offers to teach you a powerful chant, usually reserved for elders, which will let you heal yourself slowly whenever you bathe in sunlight. Hearing this, the inquisitor also offers a gift. She promises a fine bow of lustrous oak, and offers to help train Leman Russ. Finally, upon seeing your contorted face in thought, they each offer to also train Anna. Remembering that Anna wanted to join the church as well, you must make a choice.

A) Join the Paladins, and become an armored protector of the peace, blessed by divine spells
B) Join the Clerics, and learn to cast powerful Sun Magics.
C) Join the inquisitors, and become an unmatched killer and hunter of the wicked
D) Join none. This is too hard a choice for now.

You stick to your first decision, and agree to join the inquisitors. The other two men walk off with their heads hanging. The woman in leather pats you on the shoulder and tells you you've made the right choice. Your training begins in a few days, and Anna will begin learning the sword too. The two of you will work to train Leman Russ to track and fight in your free time. When you inform Anna of these events, she is ecstatic. She spends the rest of the day bouncing off the walls, having swordfights with phantoms in every room.

That night, after putting Anna to bed with Leman, you go outside for some fresh air. On the balcony you meet the Bishop. He greets you warmly, and you chat about goings on. He congratulates you on your joining the inquisitors, and tells you about his time as a member of the Paladins back in his youth.

The next few days pass before you know it, and you and Anna are lead out to the courtyard for your first day of training. After warming up, your instructor asks what you'd like to focus on, as far as weapons go. He tells you that inquisitors specialize in three weapons:

A) Twin sabres, providing great offense but little defense
B) The bow, deadly at range but near useless in close quarters
C) The longsword, well rounded and reliable
D) Try all three and see what sticks
E) Choose something else entirely

You choose the longsword, a tried and true weapon for ages. You and Anna go through the basics of grip, poise, and balance. She gets furstrated when she makes a mistake, but you manage to calm her down. After a few hours, your instructor tells you to turn and spar. Of course, this being a special case, he informs you that you need only block while Anna practices swings to build muscle. Finally, around dinner time, once Anna has been thoroughly exhausted, you are dismissed to eat. Both of you eat double your normal portion, and then retire together to the garden to digest. It is summer now, and the air is warm even at night. Soon you won't need covers to sleep, only sheets. You find a nice spot to lay down and watch the sky turn orange with sunset. You and Anna watch the clouds change shape with Leman, although he is less interested in the sky. You find yourself dozing off, and allow sleep to take you briefly. When you open your eyes again, you discover that both Leman Russ and Anna have curled up to you while you slept. Some heroic companions they are. Should you:

A) Bring them both to bed before dark, they might catch cold

You wake Leman Russ and scoop up Anna, then take them both to the women's chambers, where one of the clerics takes Anna and puts her in bed with Leman. You go back to your own bed, and fall asleep as soon as you touch the pillow. The next few weeks go by routinely. You work, you train, and you teach Leman Russ new commands. Soon the weeks turn into months, and summer comes and goes. Now it is nearly winter, and the bishop has a new mission for you. You must head into the woods down the road, where bandits have set up a trap for merchants entering the city. So far, 3 people have gone missing, and nearly 20 have reported having goods and belongings stolen when they entered. As you leave the bishops chambers, you find Anna and Leman Russ leaning on the door. It seems they heard the entire briefing. Anna begs you to let her show the fruits of her training, and Leman Russ seems excited to go out too. It's true that Anna has worked hard at the sword and bow, and she has begun to grow muscular and tall with food and exercise. Perhaps it's time to let her shine. Do you:

A) Tell them both to stay. This will be far too dangerous for a child and a wolf still in training
B) Take Leman Russ. What he lacks in fighting experience, he makes up for in other skills
C) Take Anna. She has earned a chance to show you her courage, and she might just follow you anyway

Of course you'll have them both. You trust no one more than these two. Anna grabs her bow and helps Leman don his armor while you say your prayers and armor yourself in new leathers and robes. Together you set out to the east wall, and the forest that brought you here so many months ago.

Outside the walls, the trees have begun to go bare. The bandits won't have as much cover right now, but it's still important to keep on your toes. You tell Anna to be ready to run if something bad happens, and tell Leman that if he has to choose, he must protect Anna before you. You continue to walk down the road, listening for danger. Suddenly Leman Russ' ears perk up, and he points himself toward the treeline. It seems something is hiding there. Do you:
