According to Richard, you're an Incubator, and that means you have a "Cambion" (the thing that gave you super intelligence/memory/perception) that is planning on killing you. The best way to survive is to kill other Incubators and Cambions. You're not quite sure you can do that.

The past 24 hours has been a hell of a ride, but at least you're more or less okay. The biggest thing - other than your superpowers, of course - is that you got beat up by your girlfriend's older brother's goons, then went and dealt with him (diplomatically, of course). Then you set up a date with her for tomorrow.

Then you tried to learn a little Tai Chi. It didn't take that well.

You flop down on the bed in irritation. Your body reacts well to your orders, and you can remember what you're supposed to do, but there's just a slight disconnect between that and actually performing a physical task reliably and quickly. The once-ordinary line between knowledge and application now seems like a vast gulf.

You haven't had dinner yet. Come to think of it, you missed it yesterday. It's 4:52 PM.

What do you do?

No sense in lollygagging about, moping about what might have been. You're going to make some delicious, top-notch dinner for you and your mother. No mere ordinary meal, the sort of stuff a college bachelor shits out, will suffice. Nay: you shall cook a grand meal, befitting a queen and her court! The ambrosia of the gods, no doubt.

Of course, you've never really done that kind of serious, real cooking before, having mostly focused your efforts on variations on the theme of "peanut butter and bread," and "stuff that I can prepare by opening the container and reaching in." But who cares? You've got the internet and a Scholar Cambion, nothing is outside your reach. You do some quick googling and you find a good recipe.

Roll 1d20, first three rolls count, take the highest, +6 for Intelligence.

You make some delicious food that includes meat of some kind. Perhaps shrimp, perhaps lamb, perhaps salmon. I won't say. You're pretty sure you did a very good job, given that it smells so delicious. You manage to avoid eating any of it before it's done, thanks to a great act of will.

You take a plate over to your mother's room. "Mom!" You shout in, "I made us dinner."

There's a pause, the sound of shifting. "Leave it at the door, I'll get it in a moment."

Because you have a Charm of 0.

Your scores are:
Physique 3, Perception 4, Intelligence 6, Charm 0

(before you became an Incubator, they were 0/1/3/0)

The scores mean:
-4: Disabled. Muscular dystrophy, severe schizophrenic, mentally retarded, nonverbal autistic
-2: Pretty shit. Fatass, completely inattentive, bottom end of the class, autistic
0: Normal.
2: Pretty good. Physically fit, attentive, clever, charming
4: Damn fine. Olympic athlete, eagle eye, genius, instant insider
6+: Superhuman. Spider-Man, Sherlock Holmes, Batman, Sheng-ji Yang

"Come eat with me, Mom," you say through the door, lamely. A hint of irritation creeps into your voice. The moment after you finish speaking, you already regret it.

"Don't take that tone with me." For just that moment, she sounds like a normal parent. "I'm not coming out of my room. Not now. Just leave it at the door, like I said."

You hesitate for a moment, then sigh, going to get her plate and leaving it at her door. She definitely won't be coming out now that you pissed her off, no matter how much you yell at her.

You go and eat your meal at the dining room table, eating alone and in silence. After you finish, you go to check on your mom. The plate's no longer in front of the door, and you can hear the faint, irregular sound of eating.

You set your computer up to play some informational videos, then attempt to practice Tai Chi a little while you listen to them. After all, even if you don't have superhuman muscle memory, you do have good coordination and a good reason to worry about someone beating you up. Several good reasons, actually.

After a couple hours of it, you're physically exhausted, well-informed on several theories of intelligence and their relationship to the education system, and in desperate need of sleep.

You lay down on the bed. It's 7:54 PM.

You fall asleep, and dream of nothing.

You wake up. It's 4:12 AM. You have a date with Tracy later today, and no specific plans for it.

>>
You get out your textbooks. Now is as good a time as any to finish off the remainder of your schoolwork. The rest of the English books, then your Government textbook. Done, memorized.

Spanish is half-and-half, almost, between something you have to learn more-or-less normally and something you can learn virtually instantly. The verb tenses (and irregular verbs), for example, are stuck in your memory, but you're uncertain about pronunciation: your ability to roll your 'r's is still nonexistent, for one.

Now it's 6:03 AM, and that's done. You stretch a little, then move to your computer to check out available movies for your upcoming date. It occurs to you that you don't really know what kind of movies Tracy likes. Any mention she's made of it is in the haze of your pre-Cambion days, back when your memory was still normal and has giant missing chunks. You ball your fist in irritation.

The following movies are available today at the local theatre:
>Near Miss. Some saccharine romance movie about a guy whose One Destined Woman lives right next door to him, but he's never met.
>The Red Manor. An adaptation of some Japanese horror movie about a house haunted by its previous owner.
>Gunplay. A straightforward action flick about a guy with a gun who shoots other guys with guns until they die.
>Chrome Boy. A kid's movie about a robot child and his scientist "mother".
>We won't watch a movie.

>Actually, shouldn't Abby's new, eerily flawless skin etc give her like, 1 at least?
Charm ≠ Comeliness. That's why Sheng-ji Yang has a Charm 6, even though he's a 70 year old Chinese dude.
>>
>>28399642
Well sure, that's why I didn't suggest 6 straight out the gate. But looking good makes people feel more comfortable around you (unless they get jealous).
It doesn't really matter anyway.
>>
You decide on The Red Manor, making a mental note of the times it'll be playing. Tracy and you will watch the movie, she'll get scared, and then... well, let's just say you'll take advantage of the situation to your benefit. You rub your hands together, almost cackling in glee at your brilliant, yet mildly evil, plan.

It's now 6:10 AM.

>Continue preparing for your date with Tracy. Also, no reason to sit still while doing this, so do some light exercise/aerobics as well.
Brainstorm other activities to do for future dates/in case you want to do something after the movie. Obviously, dinner date and amusement park (if she likes that) are easy, but they're also boring. Make sure to subtly try and find out more about what kind of hobbies and activities she likes, later, for future planning.

>>28399795
Spend some time reading up on the Haber and Ostwald processes. We should at least try and have a working suicide vest before we meet Richard again.
>>
Now it's time to pick out some clothes for your date. Something impressive, that compliments your best features, that's stylish... you go through your closet, picking out the best clothes. Nothing too formal, though. You finally settle on a nice short-sleeved dress shirt which accentuates your shoulders and shows off your newfound muscles, and slacks. You consider something girly, but you've always been a bit butch, and Tracy seems to like it, no sense in downplaying it now.

You set your computer to start torrenting Pimsleur's Mandarin Chinese. It should be done in a couple hours.

You start to do some light exercise, stretching, a few push-ups, that sort of thing, while you think. What else to do on a date... arcade, maybe? Dinner or lunch somewhere nice, before or after? The zoo? A dance? A sports game? Bowling? Roller skating? Mini-golf? A park? An amusement park? A concert? Ice cream shop? Hiking (probably not today, but maybe some other time)? A museum? Shopping?

The time's 6:33 AM.

You get started on breakfast, spending the extra time and energy to make it nice, big, and serious. Once done, you start on baking a batch of cookies, and you slowly, languidly enjoy the meal you've made in between steps. At the end, you've got twenty cookies. You sample one - it's good! - before putting the rest in plastic containers. You can bring them to school on Monday and share with Ned and Tracy.

It's 7:22 when you depart for the library. You work through the stacks for few minutes, building up a respectable stack of seven books on chemical engineering, and head to the desk. As the librarian stares at you, curious at your selection, you fumble for your library card and hand it over. "I wanted to be ready for college," you manage.

She nods, seemingly satisfied, and scans the books before handing them back. "They're due back next month, on the 26th." You nod and place them under one arm, carrying them home with ease.

Once home, you dump the books on your desk in your room and crack open the computer. You'll go hit up an ice cream shop to follow up the movie on a date with Tracy. Checking, it turns out there's one at the same mall as the theatre, making the walk something like thirty seconds.

You go look up dates for upcoming sports games, filing them away, and do some figuring on costs and distances involved with the nearby roller skating rink and amusement park.

It's 8:32 AM.

You check the torrent of Pimsleur's to see how close to done it is. About halfway. The first few are 100%, so you could start anytime you feel like, or just wait, download all the lessons onto your phone and do it later.

That done, you grab your cell phone, take a deep breath, and call Tracy.

"Howdy, Abby!" She says, voice cheery and clearly wide awake. "What's up?"

You idly glance through the book as you talk to her, curious how much you can focus on two things at the same time. "I wanted to pick a specific time for our date," you answer.

"Oh, great! I was so worried I forgot. When are you free?"

"All day today, more or less."

"Me too! We could have a date all day long if we wanted."

"I only have enough things prepared for about two hours."

"Two hours is plenty enough." She makes some kind of exaggerated kissing noise on the other end of the line.

"How about this afternoon? Something like three to five? A movie and a little ice cream afterwards."

"Sounds great! But how will I wait that long?"

"I'm sure you can manage."

"You're right. If I have to, I'll find a way!"

"I know you will. I've got some studying to do."

"Okay. Bye."

"Bye," you repeat back.

The information in the part of the book you flipped through seems to be mostly there, but it takes longer to call up; taking a second or two to reach and process, rather than having it at your fingertips.

I just came up with a third reason why the intelligence power was the worst: all the others mean you don't constantly spend time "building up" the power (even Nilbog would've only been 2-3 times per week), but with Intelligence, you just neurotically start learning everything within reach constantly.

You start reading through the books. Some of the material in them is alien to you, assuming familiarity with material you don't know yet, and you go to the internet for the answer every time something like that comes up, slowing you down substantially. You run your fingers through your hair in irritation. When noon rolls around, you've gotten through only two of the books. Given that you now have a much firmer foundation and won't need to look up much more, the rest will probably go faster, but still. Urgh.

You slip downstairs and make and eat a quick meal before continuing. You get through another three of the books before it starts to get too close to your date time to keep going. You go take a shower, freshen up, and put on your nice clothes before heading out for Tracy's, calling her to inform her of your imminent arrival.

When you arrive and knock on the door, Jim answers it rather than Tracy.

>Polite. "Hello, Jim. Is Tracy home?"

You can hear Tracy skip to the door, wearing an enormous smile. She's wearing an especially girly outfit, including a pink shirt with white hearts on it and a lollipop red skirt. "Abby!" she half-shouts, wrapping herself around you in a big hug. Jim's expression sours further, somehow. After you gently extricate yourself from her grasp, she starts to talk. "What's the plan?"

"Movie, then ice cream, then I bring you back home."

"Sounds wonderful," she says, "and may I say, you're looking great?"

You arrive at the theatre without any further ado. You get to the line for tickets and sit, idly tapping one foot and chatting with Tracy, who's talking a lot more than you. In the reflection on the booth, you catch another patron looking at you a little more closely than normal. It makes you feel slightly uneasy, so you keep a careful eye out for her. When you buy the tickets to The Red Manor, Tracy teases you.

"Isn't that a horror movie? Are you planning on getting me scared?"

"Maybe," you respond, mirth in your voice.

The young woman buys tickets to the same showing of The Red Manor as you.

You go to buy some drinks with Tracy. She follows you and gets in line behind you. Okay, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. As you approach the individual theatre, though, you turn around, declaring you've want some popcorn after all. She switches direction, going to the in-theatre arcade rather than the theatre. He recognized you as an Incubator (since your face suddenly changed in a distinctive if slight way and his powers relates to observation). Then, by the combination of your pre-existing knowledge of him (sudden improvement in academic skill), shared skill set (super-smartness and rapid learning), and minute detection of his expression, you figured out that he was one too. If you'd considered the possibility earlier, you might've guessed that he was also Scholar Incubator just from thinking about his sudden improvement.

The "don't talk about this" note more-or-less confirmed it, and it was only after that that your Cambion went into paranoid conniptions.

>>28402878
Or Richard's stalker!
>>
>>28402937
Oh.
Well I guess that makes sense.
Shit, how are we even suppose to hunt Incubators when any Incubator with any sense hides himself.
>>
She seems not terribly good at this stalking thing, so tentatively positive it won't be FBI. Probably Richard's stalker or some unknown but hopefully ont superpower-related entity.
>>
>>28402692
Buy a large cola, turn around to walk back to the theater, then trip and fall, launching the cup so that it 'accidentally' lands on our stalker.
>>
>>28403012
I... don't think you can quite manage that with your current abilities.

Current votes are:
1 for "Do you know who that is?"
1 for a subtle, not-Tracy-informing "I see you."
1 for ignoring her for now.
1 for trying to "accidentally" mess up her clothes by slathering her in soda.

There's no real compromise candidate between any of these, so can we get a tiebreaker?
>>
>>28403057
>Ignore her for now
Still voting on not disrupting the date. We can keep an eye on her the whole time, however. In case she tries some shit.
>>
>>28403074
Sounds good
>>
>>28403074
Ignore it is, then.

You decide to ignore her for now, going to buy some popcorn. "How much butter should I slather on here?" You ask Tracy after you buy the popcorn.

Tracy puts a finger on her lips in mock contemplation. "Mmm... is there even such a thing as too much butter? Just use as much as you like."

You cover your popcorn in a truly disgusting (yet delicious) level of butter, and head back towards the theatre. As you take your position midway up the rows, you notice the woman go a couple rows above you. When the "turn off your phone" bit comes up, you take out your normal smart phone and turn it off, but keep it out, placing it on your lap and angling it to use its surface as a mirror to subtly keep an eye on her.

Once the movie starts, Tracy gets tense during the tense scenes, leaning in as the young stepmother follows noises into the bathroom (for example), but she doesn't seem particularly frightened by the film. She certainly doesn't jump at any of the scares.

When the movie ends, you wait until after the credits are over before filing out and head to the nearby ice cream shop. You buy vanilla and Tracy gets strawberry. You sit down at one of the little tables and start to eat it. The woman is still following you, buying food at a neighboring restaurant.

>"Did you like the movie?"
>"You didn't seem too scared... I'm a little disappointed."
>"Do you want to do this again?"
>Write-in.
>>
>>28403371
"Did you like the movie? Didn't seem all that scary to you...I mean, I didn't get to comfort your terror, or anything."

Of course in a joking tone.
>>
>>28403371
>"Do you want to do this again?"
Is there a train we can take back home? If we can time it so we have to run for the doors, we can probably lose her.
>>

Say it with a wink!

Well?
>>
"Did you like the movie?"

"Yeah, it was good."

"You didn't seem too scared... I'm a little disappointed."

"Oh, I'm sorry," she says, smiling, "it just didn't surprise me with any of its jump scares. You'll get your chance to comfort me another day, I'm sure."

You're interrupted from your conversation by a shout. "I fucking knew it!" You turn your head to look. A male-female pair, apparently romantically entangled; the woman is the one who shouted, and she stands, anger radiating in her expression and stance.

"Please, Rebecca," he says, voice timid, placating, "let's not make a scene."

"You're fucking her, aren't you?"

"No, she's just an old friend. Please calm down."

As though a switch was flipped, 'Rebecca' starts slapping the shit out of him. It's honestly cringe-inducing. He's curling his head towards his chest and trying to protect it with his arms, like curling up in the fetal position with just your upper body. "You motherfucker!" She shrieks at him.

>Not your business, not your problem. Ignore it.
>"You want to get out of here, Tracy?"
>Go see if there's security or something.
>Go deal with this. Diplomatically.
>Go deal with this. Try to do it diplomatically, but use force if necessary.
>Write-in.

I'm betting she's an incubator.

Lets....slooowly walk out. That's one of those moments no one wants to be a part of.
On our way out, tell a Security Guard to check it out.

"You want to get out of here, Tracy?"

"Um," she starts, looking at the couple awkwardly, "okay."

As you leave with her, each of you taking your half-finished ice cream, you notice Tracy glancing back occasionally, a look on her face saying something like, "shouldn't we do something?"

"We'll go tell a security guard on our way out," you say. She nods at that, somewhat mollified, and you find a security guard and tell him about the disturbance. He thanks you and heads off to deal with it.

The woman from earlier is still following you.

Where are you headed?
>To Tracy's house.
>Let's go somewhere else, since our ice cream was so rudely cut short. [where?]
>>
>>28403937
Yup.
What? We don't know these people. Maybe he did cheat like a scumbag.
Maybe she's nuts? Either way, we sure as hell don't wanna get in her way.

Also
>"Well that was unfortunately cut short. Anything you wanted to do today in particular? It's on me."
Least we can do.

And if so, let's try to lose the woman through the crowds when we go.
>>
>>28404034
>Maybe she's nuts? Either way, we sure as hell don't wanna get in her way.
Okay, be ready, because this may shock you. Ready?

You have superpowers.
>>
>>28404381

Which to be be fair you keep telling us are shit.
>>
>>28404404
I just dislike them narratively and what they make me prep for/write, they're perfectly good in terms of functionality. You did beat up four guys after being knocked to the ground and surrounded, remember?
>>
>>28404381
You've kinda made me too nervous to get near anyone with the whole shit talking them.
My bad.
>>
By the way, I think it'd be a good idea to just give Abby a "study list" and assume she's going through it in her free time from now on. That way we don't have to spend like half of every episode slowly chewing through books. Thoughts?
>>
>>28404478
Probably for the best.
>>
>>28404478
Sure.
>>
>>28404381
Okay, but this may shock you. Ready?

We still have Charm 0, and have a history of failing social rolls.

>>28404478
Sure, although maybe have it be a "wat do with free time" vote, with 'study until...' option, but yeah put a list together.
Things to go onto the list: Electronics, how-to manuals (lockpicking, auto maintenance, etc) first aid, and some other hard skills like that. While not as good as actually having practice, it'll sure as hell help a lot to just know what you're supposed to do, even if you haven't done it before.
>>
"Well, that was unfortunately cut short. Anything you wanted to do today in particular? It's on me."

Tracy thinks for a little bit, then shrugs. "Nah. The mood's kind of gone."

"Okay then," you say, and start to escort her home.

You spot something in the distance, up in the sky. You look up at it for a few seconds. It looks like a person, way, way, up there. Some kind of Incubator, maybe? It'd be really hard for a normal person to tell it apart from an aircraft or a bird, but not you. You make a mental note of its trajectory, apparent position, your current location, and other data in case it's useful later on.

Tracy follows your gaze, then turns back to you, curious. "What are you looking at?"

"Just lost in thought," you respond, idly.

You get to Tracy's house, and take her up to the porch.

"Good night kiss?" You ask.

"Um," she says, not very engaged, "okay." She quickly pecks you on the cheek before heading inside.

You look around for the woman following you, but she apparently disappeared at some point between now and two blocks ago.

You have free time now. What is going on your study list, and in what order?
>Cooking.
>Second language: Spanish (finishing touches)
>Second language: Mandarin
>Lock-picking
>Auto maintenance
>First aid
>Write-in

You've already learned:
>All school courses save Spanish
>A lot of chemical engineering
>Some cooking
>A lot of anatomy

Also, are you doing anything else before going to sleep? Today is Saturday.
>>
>>28404660
>Anatomy and Pressure Points
Don't need to know martial arts to know how to make someone spasm out and collapse on the floor.

If we have time, master Spanish, and Mandarin.
>>
>>28404660
In order
>First Aid
>Anatomy and Pressure Points, knowing where to hit people
>Psychology+Speaking Skills
>Spanish
>Electronics+Wiring
>Cyber Security skills (anti-hacking)
>Cyber Security skills (hacking)
>Other computer skills
>Lock-picking
>Wilderness Survival Manuals
>Auto maintenance
>>
>>28404812
Eh, fuck my vote, this is good
>>
Study list progress:
>First Aid: completed
>Anatomy and Pressure Points: completed
>Psychology and Speaking Skills: begun. Maybe 15% completed.

You wind up going to sleep early again, at 8:12 PM.

You dream of Tracy, an alternate, perfect version of the date. No indeterminate stalker, she gets scared and grips your hand tightly in the theatre, no big scene at the end to kill the mood. It finishes off with you feeding each other ice cream, stupid smiles on both your faces, before you have to take her home.

At Tracy's house, you get a firm, deep kiss on the porch, and hear the front door open. You turn, expecting to see Jim.

Instead, it's your Cambion. One of its tentacles worms its way around your throat, not constricting, just making you know it's there. You stiffen in reaction. Tracy vanishes from your sight.

<We need to talk, Abigail,> it says, a note of irritation in its ordinarily emotionless voice.

>THREAD END.

Comments, adjustments to study list, etc, welcome. I should be up another hour-ish.
>>
>>28405296
>First aid and Anatomy/Pressure Points complete
Alright NOW I feel safer getting into conflict.

Dang, too bad our date didn't come after that. Might have waved our girl boner around.

I'm sure Cambion is all mad cuz we figured out his plans. That and we haven't been feeding him.
>>
Three things:

1_ We need to redo this date. It was a catastrophic failure.
2_ What do we do with the stalker?
3_ How do we deal with the fact that Abby's mom is an Incubator?
>>
Just read the previous. Guys one of our major tricks in combat is just tearing people apart with social-fu. This is what you get for going Tattletale route. Really I would've preferred to go Shatterbird, Raegent, Panacea or Nilbog but on the plus side since it seems that this is more espionage intruige and PMMM than Worm so having more overt powers would've messed us up a good deal.
