It started with a message that spread across every electronic device on the planet. Glowing words that declared that humanity needed to prepare for a coming change. Three days later, the skies lit up with auroras of seemingly impossible colors. And echoing across the globe was a voice that no man could make. It declared that all those who had visited the website known as 4chan in the past three months were to be vacated from the planet as punishment for a crime that humanity had committed. The poor fools were given the option of carrying two hundred pounds of gear or, as an act of mercy, were allowed to take one person(and only one) and one hundred pounds of supplies for the both of them.

Those dogged survivors were given ten minutes as a wave roared across the world, swallowing them up in a curtain of light, never to be seen again...Only to seemingly in the next instant wake up upon another world.

Now exiled to a world so far from home that nothing remains the same, they are forced to scrape out a living upon a wild, untamed planet under an alien star.

Welcome to Lenore.

To the idiot who submits these threads to suptg: please tag it properly as a collective game, because up to this point you've fucked up and now it shows up even when I'm trying to filter these kinds of thread out. You're an illiterate asshole, guy who submits these without tagging them properly.
>>
>>28385962
to the butthurt anon who apparently hasn't checked the dates on these threads. The recent ones all have collective game on them. The old ones were made back before quests were even a major thing. Now kindly stop rustling.
>>
Sometimes I think we get too involved in the fantasy of what this world is. We're intelligent people with a background in a modern, hightech world and yet here we are playing hoplites and rangers, fighting a hoard of starving, insane survivers like it's some wargame or historical period battle. I was on the front lines of Cadia. I saw what happened there. Cannibal cultists begging for their mother as they bled to death in the sun, paladins clutching fatal wounds begging not to die to anyone who will listen, hoplites running and hiding because he watched his enemies guts spill onto his hands and the life vanish from a persons eyes. The few breaks in the illusion. Now we're playing pretend politics that will most likely get more people killed. We're all stuck in a charade because we think this is what we need to do to survive. It's all a facade. We're all insane and history is going to judge us as such.
>>
Summary of recent events:

Construction has begun on Camp Abaddon, a refugee camp to take in and train newbies in basic skills and keep them from starving/getting eaten by the wildlife.

The /trv/ crusade begins to look at /tg/.

/b/ increases militarization.

The Apiary has been made the center for diplomacy in the Confederacy of /tg/.

The City-State of Hades made a power grab and attempted to gain full military control of the Confederacy, was rebuffed and declined membership (the first formal meeting of the council of city-states has yet to meet).

Butterroot Keep skirmished with Elf raiders, beat them back, and has recently come to a cease fire, but the elves show no sincerity to hold the agreement. The Mayor of Butterroot Keep has invited a different faction of Elves (played by no one yet) that trade with River City to join the Confederacy.
>>
>>28385998
They are tagged collective game, but it's misspelled as "Collectivegame" or "Colectivegame" (the latter one is so retarded that I'm pretty sure it has to be intentional), so that the filter doesn't work on them. Now kindly stop being an asshole who doesn't know how tags work.
>>
>>28386024
would you prefer pure anarchy? we've seen what that gets us. we know what the dangers are in that road. Setting up trade with other settlements isn't a bad thing, we need it and so do they. A confederacy will help in the long run smooth things over in the long run and give people something to look forward to, a nation. Or a city state at least to call home.
>>
>>28385998
To the idiot who apparently hasn't checked the archives recently: if you spell it "Colectivegame", the tag doesn't work properly.
>>
>>28386153
>>28386099
you're bothered by what? Three threads? Seriously? I mean like let's be real here some of us have more important shit than to sit there and read archives and then bitch about it. Someone fucked up, there are non English speaking people most likely on the project. If this is quite literally all you can do maybe its time you sit back and ask yourself why you haven't bothered doing so before now.
>>
>>28386241
So mad.
>>
>>28386241
All I said was, use tags properly. No need for you to get your panties in a twist, son.
>>
>>28386024
>>28386126
Pure anarchy is what we'll get if we aren't organized and capable of taking care of the new arrivals.

The difference between us here and at home isn't that we're children incapable of making a society, but that we don't have the infrastructure that we had in the old world. We have to build a new one from whole cloth, and that is never a perfect process.

It isn't pretty to see people die, but it never is. The confederacy is necessary for the future of us all.

There's something they never tell you about the fucking tunnels that connect the cities to the forts.

They're fucking creepy. Seriously seriously creepy. I've been running the damn things for the past few weeks. Pedaling my ass off in a dark stuffy hall way that seems to stretch on forever into the distance. They wonder why I keep boozing up at the bars on my day off. Fuck them man, I swear I hear shit moving around down there when no one else is around. Like footsteps...just...in the distance off to the side sometimes where I know there isnt a way out or in. Like in the storerooms and shit that are down there.

Yeah...like the ones they found that creepy ass body in. Always footsteps, nothing else. Sorry either way pass me that Green shit you kogboys call vodka.

That maps seems to show only a part of /tg/ turf up there should be mountains in the corner left(or not unless its showing that indent) corner not blank and the coastline needs to be farther out also a lot more marshland. So what is not included in the map?

This is...this is the first time I've left the Forest since coming to this world. It is home now. The trees so gracious and accomadating and the gifts that have been wrought on us. But, the humans...the humans wish to speak to us. To talk about a tribe to north. They don't understand our ways they say. They don't get why we've given ourselves wholly to the change. But they've not seen the sidhe with their touch and minds like rivers ever branching towards perfection. They've not felt the thrill of the hunt of the Devils that lurk within their forest and taste of fresh blood in their mouth. But now, I must play savage again and pretend humanity. My name is El-sazaron of the elves of the Old River of the Dreaming Forest and I walk now upon the land of men.

hm in comparing this one and the other continental one it looks like /tg/ should be a bit bigger as in coast line further or the forest pushed back. Hah well.

The map isn't anywhere near perfect, no. We don't have someone dedicated to making and updating maps, though.

Also I realized I left out two places.

I also don't have the Pirate's coastal base, but I don't know where they are yet. I'll update it with other significant features later.

They lack the speech. I forgot this when I came to these ruins that the men dwell within. To them voices carry all there is. How sad really to not be able to show your joy with dancing light and to speak without sound. They move awkwardly around me, cautious as if I'm poison to them. I cannot blame them but, I am not sidhe the change has not been wrought on me as much as they. I still whisper in the language of light where they shout to us. And they are blind to it all of course. This shall be trying, to speak with sounds and not with light within the Forest sound is swallowed, and does not carry here light is eaten.

They direct me towards a tunnel, for a moment I hesitate. And they in turn tense, ready to stab me no doubt. Is this how they treat all strangers? With fear and paranoia?

This Is either is the most brilliant thing or the stupidest thing I've ever done, I have been sober for a few days just to collect all this alcohol, for this business trip. I took some of the guard, that left with me to join my guild, we are almost to the the new city that Kog and the hadies l people are fighting over. I hear that they have a need of alcohol so I just decided to Buy all the alcohol I can and get some wagons and head down there. is it a gray area of legality yes, but I'm a private citizen, I can buy and sell what I want to. I'm going down there make profit, use that profit to pay back Kog and is the rest to continue building up The guild and hopefully the port city soon. Luckily for us, unluckily for poor souls we came upon three dead bodies, we striped them of everything useful and buried them by side of the road. They look like they were mountaineering when they were called, they had bags of camping gear and three foldable bikes, pretty nice condition, scrap that use to be guns, a few bullets, and some canned food, which is worth it's weight back in Kog. all three were ripped apart by a yowler, but it looks like they were able to mortally wound it. We striped it of everything useful and left the rest. Hopefully we can get good thing for this alcohol.

The trip took several days. I cannot say if they realized it would take so long. To them the Dark is fearsome, a frightful place. To me it is as if I was walking through a room lit. The fungus, the Gift. It gave us that familiarity when we first came here. Even before we reached the 'apiary' as they call it. I feel them, they are dangers in our world they seek out the sidhe and feast on their changed flesh. They chitter and fill the air with their stench, pheromone trails covering the walls, the trees, the people.

bees are here.
>>
>>28387204
The Elf was reluctant to enter the Manor - he was particularly unhappy about bees. Still, considering the effects wildlife have here, I won't judge. These aren't our bees; who knows how they'd interact with elves. Or perhaps he's just phobic. Either way, if a concern is expressed the diplomatic thing to do is to simply bow to it and get on with business as usual. We needed some elves on our side.

Either way, the manor has a basement, and I requested the meeting take place there.

The offer was pretty simple. I laid out a number of trade goods on the table, and made it clear that the Confederacy wanted at least one elven tribe on our side. Clothes, watermelon candy, various kinds of booze, food made from home, a copy of the Elfquest rpg book and several other things were offered as gifts. Not much, but enough to make it clear we could grant them more than just the meat they'd been getting recently. They could become an equal member of the Confederacy and be guaranteed trade benefits and such defense as we were able to provide to those in the forest, as well as our advanced tools and collective knowledge.

In return, we wanted insight and understanding on the forest, information about the other side and safe paths such as tunnels that led through it. I also laid out the diplomatic issues we'd had with the northern tribe. We had attempted to clear a path through the very edge of the forest so we could explore the other side and trade, and one fool attacked them. In return, they murdered children. It flared into a series of minor skirmishes, ending with an obviously insincere cease-fire.

They seem to answer to a group calling themselves the "High Elves". We have no way to negotiate with them, and our lack of understanding of the elves has caused numerous issues in the past. We needed to understand elves better in order to prevent such conflicts in the future.
>>
>>28387476
They were polite, though to say I could understand it all is hard. For them, it was a simple effort to explain how they felt thought to me it was as if they were talking with a ball gag...strange I remember something such as that from my past. In their mouth. I digress, their gifts were well meaning, the meeting in the dim lights of the basement. These were not savages at least not as much as we had thought.

They needed guides and we needed supplies, though the Forest provides amply to those who live with it. Luxury is rare and those like myself who do not yet shout still savor our humaness from time to time.

It was the first time in three years I had sipped alcohol. The taste was like the piss of a sporetolo and I loved it. I expressed this of course in as poetic a manner as possible giving them thanks in the true tongue. I told them, that I would talk with the many branching ones whose voices shout and minds flow like rivers. I told them that our Tribe, long peaceful would aid them and that savages were looked upon as they were here. Though..we were less forgiving.

Meeting with the elf was an interesting experience. When I was done I shook his hand and burned the leather gloves I had worn. A shame to lose a good pair, but I have no intention of turning into... that.

When I saw the inside of his mouth, I was curious. How does one speak with a mouth like that? Well, he spoke, just very... differently.

I also noticed that the lightshow was not random. Certain parts lit up at certain times, and his body language was different. He would show off various body parts which glowed at various points, resulting in odd movement. It seems there's some kind of modification to their instincts. Strangely, the fungus did not glow much on a few odd occasions. Perhaps they're emitting light in frequencies humans can't normally see. Ultraviolet, perhaps? If so, can they see in those frequencies of light?

Either way, provided the representative was sincere, we finally had an insight into the nightmare forest, where no one else could go. A free pass through that territory is no small matter. Meeting up with /sci/ on the other side would be momentous.

Most importantly, we didn't have to burn down the forest to kill all the elves. We needed that natural barrier. Tales of the /trv/ crusade had come down to Bastion at last and had been conveyed to the rest of us via radio. Fortunately they had no easy access to the lands of /tg/.

Whether or not we'd be able to start logging and clear a path through would be a different matter. From the sound of things, the High Elves were no small tribe of raiders, but a major city of them - and there was still no sign of whether they would be offended by logging or not.

Still; when the High Elven city breaks the cease fire, we'll be ready for them, and will have soldiers able to follow into the woods.

The orange man is strange, clever and strange. Paranoid of course, all men are of us. It's disheartening as I am not yet True Sidhe. I cannot shout and I cannot bring forth changes. But let them ponder and worry. It is at least amusing. They talk of logging rights and we...we must talk on that longer I think. I do not speak for all tribes. The River people number a few hundred spread along the southern marches. I think...I think some trade can be worked out. I remember from Earth of sustainable logging, of taking that which we can replace there are trees that must be felled though we shall dictate which. As Each is unto a god and a forest into itself. we shall show them the way to walk the manyfolded paths as well. Though, only with our guidance. That is law, to enter without our aegis is death not by our hand but many others. I ponder how to explain this, as I gesture lamely and try to explain like they do, grunting and trying speak English, a language I was only vaguely familiar with back on Earth. It is hard but I think I can at least get something across. It helps that their candy is a flavor I missed dearly. I always hated watermelon.

Well with Buggy gone this are getting tough. Its been months and even now we have to deal with the sudden loss of him. He who kept this band misfits from killing each other. Things are bad but we are still hanging on Buggy can disapear for a while. Even better this time he left some orders and guidelines which we are following granted there was much bitching.

I mean really kill ONLY the weakest monsters?

I mean I can understand the need to figure out farming. This mountains are just painful in that regard. Luckily we had to draw up some reports among everyone of what was edible and inedible thus we got some leads. As well as trade with some of hill villages. Hopefully that leads somewhere cause man fungi, killer fish, and monster meat gets old.

He entered the halls of the First elves, The moon darkness ever present. Within its halls their songs echoed across the chambers of dulled bronze. The drops of green life, their gods life dotted alcoves here and there. He swallowed back the fear, the horrible crawling sensation in his stomach and clutched the basket of salted fishes to his chest tightly. Tribute was law, for the first elves did not deign to listen to mere grovelling.

The main Hall was darkness, their words like wind whispered in the air and he knew that one say upon the throne of gold. Its taloned hands clicking against it like the staccato beat of some small heart.

He presented the gifts then, head bowed as he asked for mercy in the true speech. His body coruscating with wan light. It was only after he felt the four hands lift the basket from his own two did he look upon them.

He was shaking he realized. Unlike the Sidhe of the south who raved and shouted the true language. The first Elves Spoke it with Pride with Loudness. His eyes slowly raised, and met the First Elf.

Taller than a man, its broad chest crawled with the light words, the song of a hundred years and the instructions of the godkin. Flaring from its shoulders like wings of filament the coursed and pulsed with the true speech invoking the gods of the Sky and Forest, lords of all. And like a halo, scintillated their commands to the second blessed. The ferocity, the generousness and subtleness with which It spoke told him all he needed to know. He was to run back, back to the verge where the heathen light coursed through the branch and tell them that One of They Of the sundered wings and Sudden Peace would come forth to negotiate with these strange mortal men.

He bowed and crawled back on his knees as it struck the floor with the metal stave, the end of it glowing faintly luminous.

On our way north towards Cadia with the guard and we ran into a caravan. Nothing special, traded a little information and what not about events happening. They informed us though theres a shipyard on the coast which has just recently built its first ship and is planning more.

While i do need to discuss future matters with the Castallen, ive decided to make a detour towards this shipyard and see whats happening there. Exploration of the seas could very well open this world up much more than we ever thought possible. Nightmare builders. The messenger came back with the message.

How does one negotiate with insane alien beings that lived for war - and then went into a madness inducing fungal hell to become host to who knows how many parasites?

I had bitten off far, far more than I could chew with my clever ploy. I should have simply ordered the forest burned down.

Well, I was assuming about their living for war. But we hadn't encountered any builder ruins that weren't built for conflict yet, so it had to be assumed.

I sent a messenger out to the Expat at the tower - having a great builder weapon would help. I asked an artist to make a mock-up of the second battle for Cadia, with emphasis on the builder weapon in case he couldn't show. Hopefully the alien could discern it.

Rifles. Everyone had to be armed. Even if they didn't know what a rifle did, they might recognize a weapon. Hazard suits. They wouldn't know what they were, they might look intimidating and goodness knows I don't want to be in close proximity to something that must have been living in those woods for a century or two.

I could lay out the same trade goods, but would that help?

Yowler heads? Rapedactyl leather? Would that offend, or impress? Impossible to say.

Either way, the Keep will need to stock up on oil, just in case the creatures in the woods were too dangerous to negotiate with.

The moved within their tower now, It had been ages they pondered. This was not the first Other they had encountered. The First like this perhaps? four instead of six, so strange. Where the Other before were children of the fearful night. These were Of somewhere else. The ones that served, the New Others, they were from...It did not have the word for it. Home? New Other Home . It could not talk, merely mumble and growl, animal like. It was Perhaps not a New Other?

No, it was. They had seen the signs. The dead walked and the SKY sang out again. The Last moon, above the trees had returned. The dark herald. New Others, novel. Novel Others? It could not tell. It donned the vestament now, the holiness of metal and ringing steel. How long had one of The People done so? Since The Fall? Since The God King's Killing? Perhaps, it didn't know It was still Hatchling, wet feather and down. But, It needed to learn about the Verge of the Danger and It yearned to See them. The Homes, The lost lands taken by Dark herald.

It wanted to go home. Away from here to Rest the sword, newly blooded upon the Alter Of the Throne and to claim a tower for itself. To call to its nest mates and hear the harem sing his Praises. But these were past things. Now, They were The sundered Wing, The broken flight. So, As with all things Dark They Took on the Sudden Peace, The hated aspect, the one that lurked in the dark, screaming night into the ears of the fearful and claimant of the weak.

It yearned to shed, like the last feather The Sudden Peace, To once more return like their forebears to the Singing sky and Turning blade...But no. It was The Sudden Peace, The negotiator and unmaker of all things vital to living. The sudden Peace, The end of Long War.

"Ah greetings, we travel the North Road to Cadia when we came across a caravan which gave us word of your settlement and shipyard here"Hades says stepping forward, removing his helm and tucking it under an arm.

"I am Lord of Hadesopolis, First of the Elected Council, a small city not far from here. I would be most interested in viewing your shipyards, the first true ones to grace this planet that we know of if im not mistaken. We have trade goods with us if you wish to trade, and our own food if you are too short to spare, but a night under a roof would be most welcome if you would grant it. In return you'll have the lasting favor of Hadesopolis and be welcomed to our city. If you do not admit us, we offer it regardless so long as you do not raid upon these lands. May i ask your name sir? Are you the leader of this outpost?"

I was glad to see them leave. The Hoplites that is. Though honestly I wished it had ended on better terms.

But what did they expect? Did they honestly think that ‘gunboat’ diplomacy would work in an instance such as this?

Now it seems that someone has gotten the wise idea to have a ‘Diplomatic Center’ for the whole Confed. Not a bad idea and I honestly wish the politicking assholes the best of luck. Now, back to business. That PR meeting Pat organized hasn’t gone unnoticed by the people of Kog. I already have people coming to me asking about it, and not a few asking if I’m accepting recruits! And its not just random people of the street either. I had people in the militia I had scared up asking about it too.

It’s all happening a lot faster than I anticipated, and I’m beginning to see a problem. I’m soon going to have more recruits then I can handle. I have already started review those I can to see if I can find anyone with the expertise I need. This, hopefully, won’t take too long.

"Aye, I'm the leader. Pirate is my name. Not much of a settlement to be honest. A few tents since we've yet to build any other structures." Pirate scratches his beard a bit, "You'll forgive me for being wary of armed men arriving at my doorstep unannounced and wanting inside. I have no problem with you setting up camp on the beach nearby so long as you don't cause any issues."
>>
>>28394124

"Completely understandable, would you mind to admit me and my Lady Mary to have a quick tour of your settlement though as well as to discuss trade? Our city has an abbudence of materials to help you get some roofs over your heads if you would like. I heard you have even completed the very first true ocean going ship as well! Very impressive i must say.

Oh, and how rude of me, I am Lord Hades" He finishes, starting to unbuckle his sword belt, passing it to a retainer, saying a few words before the men in the small colomn begin to set off to an overhang by the beach, preparing to camp.
>>
>>28394172
"John! Open the gate a hair." Pirate motions with his hand ushering the couple inside. "Here's the camp in all its glory. Could be worse but it certainly isn't Kog or Cadia tier yet. Over there is the shipyard itself, it isn't much but it works." Pirate leads Hades over to the unfinished ship, "I'm not sure where you heard that I had finished the first ocean going ship, but work is progressing at a steady enough pace. Not like this lot has any more pressing concerns really. Alan! pipe down a bit I'm talking!"

Pirate heads back over to the tents, taking a seat on one of the logs in front of the campfire and stretching out his legs, "as you can see, we've got a very basic setup here. Ah thanks Tucker, what is this? Some kind of chowder? Get some for our guest if you would please? Thanks" Pirate hands the crude bowls over to the guests. "Now, you wanted to discuss trade then?"

"Yes, i was thinking of starting off with a gift, first of all. Sadly its not something i can give immediately, but it could be here in a week or two. You do have alot of work to do before this is a proper settlement, please take no offense though, and id like to help with that. In about two weeks i can have 2 dwarfs, 50 laborers and enough stone and lumber to build housing for all of your fellows here. The Dwarfs are my gift to you as a token of Hadesopolis friendship" he says passively eating at the gruel put to him, Mary more poking than eating.

"As for trade, i do not know what you have too trade, but id be interested in exchange to begin with. In return for enough lumber to help you fellows build another ship, i request you help my laborers, if you accept them of course, build another ship. I want to scout out as much of this world as i can as fast as i can so we can learn of any problems or wonders before its too late or the time has past. If you do not wish for us to have it docked in your settlement it would be saddening but no problem, so long as the draft is shallow enough to navigate the rivers. Is there anything at all you need in particular here that i may help you with?"
>>
>>28394417
Pirate slowly finishes his meal thinking over a response. "Well...I'd rather not accept any gifts if I can help it. I'm sure you mean well but I'm a stubborn bastard you see and I've had a history of people holding "gifts" over my head as a sort of blackmail. My crew are hard workers and the Guild, UWGA, might end up sending me more when they are able, so manpower won't be an issue for a while. As I mentioned before, we are still working on our construction techniques, so you could think of the Albatross, my ship over there, as a prototype more than anything. Lumber isn't a huge issue either since we've been processing our own from the surrounding woods." Pirate contemplates his missing foot for a bit before continuing, "If you would like, you can give us an idea of what you had in mind for a vessel and I'll see if we can get on it after the Albatross is seaworthy."
>>
>>28394568

"No no i insist, they are gifts and nothing more. You have my word as a man of honor elected by his people to reign as first. We have many more dwarves and we'er simply using them for rebuilding a ruined Builder settlement that we've recently called battleborn...my people have a thing for flare, wouldn't you believe" he says jokingly tapping his helm, stark feather plum across the top.

"The rest i can respect though, but the offer is there. As for what sort of ship...i wouldn't be entirely sure, i was never really a ship type of person you see? My knowledge expends to Biremes, Triremes and some South East Asian vessels. Something to handle coastal and river travel for the time being would be suitable. Do you have much knowledge on designs yourself? And when shall you're albatross be finished?"
>>
>>28394624
Pirate nods a bit as the others gather around the campfire, "I reckon the Albatross will be finished in another month give or take a week or two. Smee is the only one that really knows anything about what he is doing here, the rest of us are just here for labor heheh. If you can get measurements and a picture to work off of, or better yet actual plans, we could probably work something like that out. As it stands we could throw together some medium sampans if you aren't going to be going farther than the coast or river ways." Alan begins humming as Tucker scrapes the last of the chowder out of the cooking pot. "That almost reminds me I need to ask the Guild if there is anything specific they'd like me to do." Pirate ducks into his tent and hurriedly scribbles a message on a piece of paper before coming back out "John care to run this up to the salt camp? Hopefully it'll get to Kog soon."
>>
>>28394746

"Yes actually, i have a fair few history books collected up back in Hadesopolis. I should mention we have a fairly large bounty on any such things from the old world, to collect and protect knowledge. Ill send a message back with our HAM once we get it running in the camp and we'll have somebody down with not only the two dwarfs but some of those Trireme designs. Its not totally indepth mind you, but if you've been able to build a sea worthy vessel here, im sure it'll help!" Finishing his gruel, he stands up and offers out his hand.

"You and your crew are welcome in our camp, we will only be staying the night since we must make our way to Cadia. I dont suppose you need anything from up north at all?"
>>
>>28394807
Pirate shakes his head and the the offered hand before the pair leave for the night, "The dwarves would already be a bit much for my liking to be perfectly honest. Have a nice, and make sure your lot stays out of the water or be very careful. I don't know how close to shore the Beast comes at night..."

The first wave of arrivals for the New Year was upon us. We had kept with our tradition of marking our territory with maps for the new arrivals to find shelter. Our maps had begun to vary widely, as one might have been a whole side of a tree stripped of bark and the map carved into it. Another map might be a carved section of planed wood secured against a tree. Finally, whenever we had spare water bottles or sealable containers we would draw a map on paper and put it in the bottle to protect from the rains.

While the Tower was low on man power compared to Butterroot or the other cities, we had established a large footprint on the lands. We ranged further away after hunting all of the game in the immediate area or our trips down south to the Glow Moth Cave. We had ventured east and followed the river north towards a massive lake. West were two rivers and then a tall ominous forest that our exploring Hunters refused to get near.

In the end we didn’t even need to go out and collect them. If they were strong enough to make it here, they would have a life at the Tower. As of now we already have 50 new arrivals in our new log houses. Each arrival is in a various state of shock or trip. Some of them were unprepared for the journey and tried eating the wrong thing. We’ve been having some of the women help explain the situation to them. They lay all of the simple facts that we know out on the table so they can digest the thought. Later we will have to explain some of the sicknesses and give them the option of which medicine to take.

Until we tell them about the sickness the roughly 20 people including myself and James who have the indigo skin tone are trying to stay out of sight. It’s already stressful enough knowing you’re on a different planet. The last thing they need is the stress of knowing this planet will completely rewrite them.
>>
>>28395285
We’ve gotten a head start on preventing Black Eye. The ones who elected to avoid having Rainbow Bright syndrome at the expense of their skin tone are showing the first signs of the infection, while the ones who chose the Yowler ichor cure are already beginning work. James has established a mandate that no one with the ichor cure can join the Hunters. Unfiltered eyes are able to catch the patterns of the predators in this world faster and easier than someone who is distracted by the vividly colored leaves. By the end of the treatment he should be training an additional 20 Hunters.

The remaining members are being fitted for silk robes. One of our seamstresses shared my love for House Telvanni and we’ve decided to create a similar style with blue robes with a red shawl. The Hunters have decided to have an alternate color scheme with red robes and blue shawls. I have to admit the red robes look better on a purple person than blue.

Part of the reason we immediately started fitting the arrivals for clothing is that we can use the fabrics of their clothing from Earth in other projects. Rather than wait for the clothing to fray and fall apart, we have fresh fabric to use. We’ve also been cataloguing the arrivals gear and storing the survival items like seeds and food. They’re allowed to keep tools, but Robber T is giddy with excitement over the possible things he can build with the new materials. He did end up stealing a pair of pruning shears someone had brought. Why they brought a pair of shears I don’t know, but when he left his forge with two reinforced spears the new arrival fell silent about having them stolen.
>>
>>28395305
On the state of our Scale Wolves. We’ve managed to capture an additional four wolves and they’ve been broken in by our riders. We have also created a riding coat that has had Butterroot oil worked into the leather. These coats at least allow people to walk up to the wolves without problems. They are still skittish about letting these people ride them, but we are getting there. With six wolves now we are planning to begin breeding while simultaneously letting them get used to our group of riders in the coats.

--

For the time being I am the only person willing to venture down into GMC. I was away retrieving a new batch of the cocoons for our silk production when a messenger arrived from the Mayor. When I returned and read the message a lot of things made sense.

For the past month I had been having dreams of standing in a large stone city at the base of a mountain. Water cascades down and soaks my arm before rushing off between stairs and walkways and finally emptying out into a river that stretched south. I stood at the top balcony of the city and looked out on the lands. The city was filled with soldiers, the sun glistening off their armor to where I was unable to make out detail on any of them. My army was ready to turn south and cleanse the land that war rightfully ours, but taken by our brothers in an unhonorable night time raid while I had been away dealing with another clan. As I lift my arm to yell towards my troops I feel an all too familiar weight and wake up in my bed holding the Builder lance.

I will go help him, but I have no army to bring in support. The only thing I can possibly offer him is myself and one of my Wolf trainers riding along with me. I’ll break one of the largest newer wolves by force and make him submissive enough to ride. However, before leaving I’ve sketched out the city and land that I could see. I’m going to send two hunters north to the mountains and see if they can spot this stronghold.

Also, a map adjustment with GMC on it. There are more builder ruins down the long staircase, but right now the chemicals/pollen/space tech thing that causes time distortion in human brains is preventing exploration.

After tearing away the vines and clearing some of the rubble we finally managed to pry open the large stone gates of the ruin,

Inside it was just as the scout had said, a large overgrown courtyard, about the size of two footballfields, ringed by the stone wall and with five long buildings standing near the squat central tower.

Rather than head straight to the central building we decided to clear the other five first, which was easier said than done.

The first building we explored was infested by dragon rats, but some lit torches and loud noises was all it took to chase them out. That was also all it took to bring the Yowler, that had been nesting in another building, out in a screaming frenzy. It savaged two of our men before we manage to put it down with arrows and spear. They will live but they are too injured to continue, so we hitched up a pair of drag stretchers to the back of two scale Wolves and had them taken back to the Keep.

The rest were better, but we would still find evidence of anmals living in them recently, one of the explorers even had a Corsair drop from the wall onto his head, sending him screaming out of the building before he realized it wasn't something seriously dangerous. When we really examined them we found two of the buildings to be barracks of some sort, although it was a mess inside and none of the fixings inside were in a state of extreme disrepair.
The other three were all warehouses of somesort. If I had to guess I would have to say this was an outpost, or military base of some sort.

Except one of the warehouses wasn't enitely empty, it housed three long narrow boats inside. They weren't in the best condition but they looked like they would still float.

But why the hell would there be boats all this way up in the mountains and with the river a considerable distance to the west. They didn't look especially easy to transport either.

What kind of outpost was this?

For a week we’ve been camped outside this city of depravity. The air is filled with a putrid stench that is indescribable. Our food all tastes rotten and we are enforcing mandatory ration consumption. Many of the soldiers would rather go hungry than try and eat while smelling this city. At night there are the horrible screams and moans of pleasure and pain. The cool early spring night air carries the echoes throughout the valley and we are all having trouble sleeping. The city has yet to open its gates to acquire additional food or bodies so at least we know they are consuming themselves.

The Hexumviri has all agreed that we can no longer leave our men in the field awaiting reinforcements. The moral of our legion is plummeting with each restless night and forced meal. We have tasked the Pumpkin’ Chunkers to build additional siege weaponry to soften the forces inside the city. With hope news of being able to assault and purge these retched excuses of humans from the Earth will restore the moral of our legion. Or at least it will improve until we enter the city and see what they have been up to for the past week.
>>
>>28395742
Day one of the assault was left up to the Pumpkin’ Chunkin’ team. Biological warfare would be pointless against the enemy, so we decided to punch a hole in their walls and tear down a section for our forces to enter. For 18 hours they loaded and fired 6 large trebuchets flinging large boulders into their defenses. I have to admit, the big winged things that built these ruins really know how to build a wall. It wasn’t until the 15th hour that we punched a hole in the actual thing, and it took the full 18 to widen it enough for a portion of a single cohort to enter.

While we had punched a hole, we had also created a bottleneck that would see our troops slaughtered if we did not push through. The third cohort, led by one of the /k/ Hexumviri volunteered to be first through the breach. They were some of the last remnants of purge happy warband and they had kept the faith. While the other cohorts settled into a bit more order, these had continued to preach about burning the unclean and unfaithful. I think some of the Corn followers we picked up in /b/ might have migrated into that cohort. My troops would follow the Third and help push into the city.

Our spies had left us a general design of the city and where the leaders frequented, but none would be returning to the city with us. Two more had committed suicide during the week long siege, and the remainder refused to reenter.
>>
>>28395637

Deciding to get to the bottom of this we headed for the central tower.

When we checked it out properlly we found it actually had two entrances. The first was of the usual builder sort, a little to tall and a little to narrow. The other was a pair of doors similiar to the gates, though not as large, set into the side of one of the sections that extended slightly out from the tower. When we pried those open we found a shallow slope that lead down beneath the tower.

The rest of the tower was standard builder fare, large stone block walls and floors, all covered in various deptictions of war and combat, this one particularly seemed to depict a lot of guerilla style fighting within the forest, between the builders and some other creatures that looked eerily like the 'Elves'. It was a simple enough layout until we followed the centrals tairs downwards where it met up with the slope that lead down from the other entrance way.

We followed it all the way down until we noticed something, we could all hear rushing water.

We hurried our pace and sure enough, down there beneath the tower was an underground lake. On our right a small tunnel, just wide enough to allow the water through, and located upwards a little and spat out water into the lake like a waterfall into the lake and flew out into another tunnel, this one much bigger but still fairly narrow that seemed to head out westwards.

The slope from above lead directly into the bank by the river and into the water. Just like a slipway.

This wasn't simply a military outpost in the mountains, it was the beginning of an underground river way and from the looks of it, it headed directly under the Nightmare forest.
>>
>>28395945
HAH, fuck you elves, we river rats now!
>>
>>28395945

We did an inspection of the underground lake and it seems to be completely empty clear water, a fresh mountain spring if there ever was one. The tunnel that leads away is both good and bad. The downside is that its speed is going to mean that the return journey will be tiresome and that as far as we can see the tunnel is completely pitch black, with no light source visible. On the brightside its big enough for several boats and moves at a fast enough speed that at least westwards we shouldnt need to do much paddeling. It also has a narrow stone walkway along both sides, although we don't know how far that extends.

I'm going to leave a contingent of the expedition here, to start clearing and fortifying the place right away, while I head back to the Keep and start organizing two other expeditions, one to head down through the tunnel and see where it opens up and the other to start settling this new location.

If we can fix the place up and provide the basics we will have a solid start for a new settlement for the new wavers. I'll make sure to send the Mayor the news, I figure he'll be happy about the news.

Now we just need to come up with a name for the place.

It's a bit sad when this is something a person will complain about. You're life is amazing if this is the worst thing to happen to you today. I've seen people without homes or food begging in a country where honor is everything.

You on the other hand, are angry that a few threads on a website are archived wrong and cloud up your view of MtG, Edition wars, or 40k list threads. What a life you must live, such amazing luxury you have.

And how ignorant of me to think these posters will read this. I've been cleaning and my internet was down but these posts have been festering in my mind at the pure selfishness they have in them.

The Head Council's chambers were filled with muffled sounds as the courier stood outside contemplating if he should interrupt.

On one hand he had priority one information that was to be delivered regardless of the situation, but on the other were the rumors of the crazy and wild parties the older councilor had. In the end he knew the Councilor would forgive him once he saw the information, and secretly he hoped to be invited to join once inside.

As the doors opened the courier stood staring at an older man caught naked while dancing around and listening to Beethoven on a portable crank powered record player. Neither man spoke for nearly a minute until the older Councilman cleared his throat and picked up his robes.

"Yes?"

"Wha...what is this? B-but i heard!"

"You heard I had wild orgies with countless women and drugs for days at a time?"

The courier could only nod.

"Truth be told, I'm a High Wizard. I've never had sex in my entire life. Probably wouldn't even know how to do it at this point. What you heard are just stories I sometimes tell for fun."

The councilman moves across the room and pulls the needle off the recordplayer.

"Now, why do you come barging into my chamber?"

"Letter sir, Priority One!"

The boys eyes stay fixed on the top of the councilors head as the old man has forgotten to secure his robe. He passes off the letter, eagerly awaiting a response so he can flee the scene.

"Hmm, yes... very interesting. Send a dispatch of Rangers to aid the troops in the field. Do not inform the citizens as of yet. We do not need a riot breaking out, nor do we know if this is truly "first contact" as this letter states. I am preoccupied with finishing up this paperwork and packing for the Apiary so I will not be in attendance."

The courier turns to flee but is stopped by a large hand on his shoulder.

"Oh, and can you bring me some more alcohol? And this time knock."

A close relative to the 'scaled wolves' of Lenore. The scale hound weighs in at the heaviest a measly seventy pounds. A smaller animal it moves through the choking undergrowth of coastal forests and swamps in search of carrion and small game.

Scale hounds are an older lineage and do not have the more highly developed graspers of their cousins instead, their forelimbs have 'boxing gloves' of hoof like material that they use to duel for mates and to pummel game into submission. The limbs are kept close to the body not unlike a preying mantis and can lash out with surprising force. Skilled climbers these animals will make their den sites in tree dwelling Wambler nests or in Goblet trees.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore

>>
>>28398330
like are they herbivore, omnivore, scavenger, or yet another predator?

They sound like scavengers since they use another animals nest.
>>
>>28398528
What if they act like cuckoos?
>>
>>28398547
That's the animal I was trying to think of!

Yep, we've got a feathery, climbing, boxing cuckoo dog.
>>
>>28398547
That would make their interaction with human infants EXTREMELY unnerving.
>>
>>28398636
They woul keep climbing into cribs, taking the kid out and using it as their own bed
>>
>>28398683
Cuckoos also kill other birds in the nest, and mob and kill birds who don't allow them to lay an egg in the nest.

So it's a choice between letting your offspring get murdered and raising/feeding an impostor, or getting killed yourself.

So depending on how closely you'd want to parallel, they'd place their young in a crib, who would eat the baby and then (unless you use a lot of butterroot oil) mob anyone who kicks the thing out.
>>
>>28398749
The problem with that is that Cuckoos get away with it in part because they are birds just like their aopdtive parents.

So I don't think they would actually pull the whole 'cuckoo' routine, the idea is amusing though.

I didn't get as much as I wanted from battleborn it was mostly armor and weapons. I decided that this was a good time to vist pirate so we took the carts with the alcohol, supplies scavenged from dead chaners, and the rare animal in along the way.

We are excited because we found a tortello breeding ground, mabey, we counted twenty of them fighting for a weed, we found another patch of the weed and tied the weed to fishing pole. The hardest part was attaching them to the carts and turning, we put some more in an empty container. When we camp at night the hardest thing is keeping them close to use them the next morning.

We reached the camp, and it looked like pirate had visitors. It looks like hades is visiting, so I went to his camp to see if they wanted to but alcohol, ammo, and the meat and bones of beasts.

Other regions including Smee's Shipyard, Hadesopolis, the Tower, and Camp Abaddon.

THAT bird, and Scale Hounds. There's also a parasite from Nightmare Woods, something like Red Worm or something. Basically it's a chest burster without the oral sex with a octopus.

Our arrival back to the Keep was a doubly happy occasion, not only had the elves not done anything in our absence but our trade group had made it back from River City the day before. With them were three new people, a smith and two of his experienced apprentices, and a full complement of smithing equipment and all it took was a boat load of our pumpkins and watermelons.
The new Butterrooters were also guaranteed their own homes, all located close to a larger building that has been designated the smithee.

I won't pretend to understand the full process of taking iron ore, extracting the metals and forging them into something usefull but they have guaranteed me that they have everything necessarry and that they can start teaching the basics to our own people. They are still setting up their equipment but soon we can start production of tools and if needed, weapons.

At the very least new metal arrowheads would be greatly appreciated by our hunters and archers.

I don't planned to get to involved in this aspect of the Keep beyond simply passing on the ideas that the Mayor had outlined before he left, such as the possible construction of an engine prototype.

Rather I find myself preoccupied by the possobility of war with the elves and the expedition and settlement to the north.

What worries me the most about sending an expedition up there is the group that will have to head down that tunnel. With how damn dark it is, we are going to need some sort of light source that is both safe and reliable to use underground for an intedeterminate amount of time. I'll put some thought into it and get some suggestions from others, maybe Murad can come up with another brilliant idea.

Before that though I'm going to check on the people we got back from the elves, they were still in the infirmary when I left hopefully they've recovered.
>>
>>28404539

Thank god for Drew.
The man is quite literally a lifesaver.

It seems the elves, whether intentionally or not, ended up infecting our people with a parasite of some sort.

Most of them only showed slight signs of being sick before the recovering quite quickly after being administered a small dose of sick salt and expelling the contents of their stomach.

Three of them did not however and only continued to show a worsening condition and complaining of cramps in their stomach. At first it was just cramps, then they didn't seem to take any nourishment or fufillment from food and then they even started to spit up some blood.

The infirmary, the paladins and even the whole Keep were pulling their hair out on a way to treat their condition.

That was before Drew woke up one morning, walked into the infirmary and emptied the contents of a jar of butterroot oil down one of the patients throat. After that it was a only a couple of hours before the pain subsided and by the next morning and with another dose of sick salt he had regurgitated a strange red worm like creature, about the length of a forearm and the width of a finger.

Once we saw that we rushed to have the other two treated the same way. We don't know why they resisted the original treatment but at the very least butterroot oil seems like poison to the parasite.

Even if it removes every other taste in the patients mouth for a week. Small price to pay I think.

The Elves should be thanking their damn fungus we managed to catch those things before they killed someone and that we can't prove it was done on purpose, otherwise I would be down at that meeting at the Apiary calling for a crusade/deforestation against the whole Nightmare forest.

Well, I’ve been promoted again. James has elected me representative of the Tower on this new board of old nerds. While it was fun trading trinkets with people and trying to get better deals by showing a little cleavage or batting eyelashes a little too much, I now get to vote and manage trade for the entire confederacy!

I had just arrived in Kog and started to meet the various councilors when some silly nerd larping as a Greek hoplite arrived at the city gates. I think it might have been the outrageous fury swag he had on his helmet, but he put the city into an uproar and tried forcing his way into the meetings. As I was still introducing myself as a trader they didn’t ask me to attend the stuffy meetings. I find it’s always wise to get to know marks before revealing all of your hand, and I didn’t want to attend meetings and start voicing my opinion until I knew how all of the other councilors thought.

Shortly after the Greek larper left in a huff and was escorted out of the city the council got word they were to relocate. It was with this news that I announced my true intentions in the city and inquired about having the Kog military protect the innocent girl from the small settlement while she moved about in the big city and tried to find this Apiary. Of course I was fine to move around, and I already knew where the apiary was located, but there is something about the stares of people as you walk around town with body guards informing you of various locations.

We arrived at the apiary last night after traveling for what seemed like a month at the slow pace the old nerds went at. This place is a FARM! Why they decided to hold these council meetings at a farm house that looks like it could support the entire population of Kog if it grew exponentially, I will never understand.

Still, I think I can work with this. I’ve already received complements from some of the guards, rangers, and a few councilors over the quality of my silk robes. If I can establish the tower as the leading silk and leather producer we may be able to secure some amazing trade deals.

I’ve also been on the lookout for any potential deals with metal ores. We are still dangerously low on metal at the Tower and despite heavy increases in manpower at our mines we have no veins of any usable metals. I will need to secure at least a carts worth of iron or other metals to help the Tower in the coming year. One of the councilors was bragging about a salt and mining camp that Kog set up in the first few years last night over dinner. I may have to have brunch with him to discuss the viability of a trade route from the mines to the Tower.

One of the other councilors was making comments after he learned the Expat was from the Tower. He claimed our people were a backwater hovel where people eat anything they find on the ground and due to their poverty they somehow manage to survive the infections and mutate. I think one of the other councilors called him a sixth houser, but it took all of my restraint to not spit in his face and tell him he was now infected. Actually, that sounds kindof entertaining. If he continues to comment like that I’m gona have some fun making him think he will turn purple from some spit in his eyes.

The one thing we know about the builders is that they loved war. That one is coming to negotiate is not a particularly good sign. The other councilors may decide to try and overrule me, but - I don't give a fuck.

I'm not a particularly big fan of the idea of giant, ancient, powerful nonhumans in an impenetrable forest on our border. Well, to be frank I'm not a fan of the idea of sentient nonhumans period.

So I decided to prepare. Two boxes full of surprises if I needed them. A dozen yowler skulls gathered from everyone I could find that kept them, put on the shelf behind me. Everyone had a rifle, and a sword. Full hazmat gear for everyone, shipped down from the keep, and some premade molotov cocktails.

The surprises were a desperation weapon. Boxes that would be filled with bees before the builder arrived, in case he had an artifact and we couldn't kill him. I didn't know if they would actually DO anything - I was basing this off the phobias of one elf. But if nothing else we were wearing thick leather and the other fellow wasn't, and a room full of stinging giant alien bees would be distracting.

I had no intention of going to war, mind you. But the problem when dealing with aliens is simple.

An alien holds up a lead ball in one hand, and a feather in the other. The choice is not explained. Which is the right one? One, neither? Both? How do you guess the thinking of a true alien?

I was going to try, but I didn't really have a lot of faith that first contact would go well. If a warlike alien from a land of madness, crawling with fungus and parasites decided to attack - well. There are ways to deal with that.

I'm sending some bees up north to the Keep to start honey production. If it turns out they're also good against elves, then that's great.

Wait is the elf still with us?
>>
>>28405861
The representative from the Tower suggested that we not meet at the Apiary, but in an open field near the forest.

Frankly, that was an excellent idea. It significantly reduced the risk of using fire weapons, gave us room to maneuver, and would allow us to bring Scale Wolf cavalry. And if the Expat and his ancient lance did show up, it would give him more room to maneuver. I saw that lance cut through an elephant sized creature once - not again.

Hmm. I wonder if the lance could be used to cut through a nightmare tree. A valuable logging tool, perhaps? Well, that would be like using a lightsaber to cut carrots for dinner, but even so...

The best location would probably be the fields near the tower bordering the forest. It wouldn't take nearly so long to get there now that river travel was established.

I didn't want to confront them near the River Elves. They'd agreed to an alliance, but they spoke of the builders with an almost religious veneration. If it came to blows, I didn't know if they'd turn or not. I knew the northern elves would turn, so we may as well at least stand on ground where we're certain of our footing, with the only River Elf serving as a translator. (I wasn't about to trust the Northern Elves to translate properly)

If things went poorly, that translator never needed to go home, and could suffer an "accident" provided he sided with the builder, thus preserving our alliance with that group of elves. With luck there would only be a few builders, and we could wipe them out before they rallied the elf tribes and ruined any chance at a long term alliance with any group of elves.

But once again, this was speculation. Damn, I'm hoping for a peaceful solution. Hmm. There's at least one Hot Air Balloon enthusiast in River City, and though it'll take a while, I have some ideas...

Is there anyway we could get a summary of races?
>>
>>28407157
Look to your left, now to your right.

Look up, now look in a mirror.

That's the race of "sentient" on this planet. Elves are just humans with a bad fungal infection that's taken root in their brain.

Builders are dead.... or they are supposed to be, but it seems one managed to avoid death by being a glowing billboard straight out of old school Las Vegas.
>>
>>28407157
There are three sentient races we know of:

The Builders, who were warlike and religious and are now gone. Except we've found some in the forest. They worshiped the godlike aliens.

The Humans, who got kidnapped and dumped here. That's you, though being from 4chan we probably only barely qualify. (Elves are just fungus-infested humans.)

The Godlike Aliens, who are gigantic cockbags and love worship. They kidnapped the humans and brought them here. They also made the high-tech artifacts. There is no magic in this world; it's all godtech.
>>
> godtech

Clarks third law is in play then?
>>
>>28408065
There are limits to it and it's rare, and people can generally understand it. There are mech suits, robots, and weapons that shoot beams, as well as what's basically a replicator (that needs materials to make what you want).

It isn't quite magic, but it's dressed in mysticism.

Terror. that is what I felt as the sun set, and I stood on the Verge. The Verge, the fields of change, the northlands. This place of His Savage brothers, drunk on the blood of innocent death.

And now they Called it here. One of the First, and he was to talk for it. Whisper where it Shouted with vigor and pride and shout where it veiled the threats. He was terrified as he stood in the field watching the moon rise and cowled figures that emerged from the Forest. One taller than the rest and bearing upon its hip A saber of their forging. New and wickedly curved.
>>
>>28408211
Yowler skulls rested on spikes. A large group of soldiers from every city stood behind, and those in front wore protective suits. Behind them were crates, and a number of people were nearby. A group rode scale wolves, a man with the Sky God's lance in his hands. Snipers rested on the distant hills, if needed.

The one in orange came forward.

"Greetings." He said. "We come to discuss peace and trade. But if threatened, you will find the strength of our weapons great. We wish to know about you and your people."
>>
I approach the Others. They follow Law, it seems and bear forth the Welcomed Host. They are not Savage, Not Sudden Peace But perhaps Long War? I shudder. I am not fearful, Excited. I walk the Home Perches now. They Wait. I wait, the Ritual Begins.

I move First. Power, semblance of balance I remove the Coverings and let them see the Shame, The Aspect of Sudden Peace of Fearful Night which we now bear us of Sundered Wing. And I speak, with both voices, I Speak so that they may hear my ancestors glories. I tell them of how this land was ours and how They Are Other, How they are not of here and I ASK, I surrender Myself to their answer, I ask Are they of the Last Moon?

It had taken nearly 5 days to make the journey and meet up with the Mayor. The first day my wolf was still resisting commands, and two more days before we got to the Apiary where the original letter had stated he needed me.

Upon arrival I had enough time to restock supplies, say hello to our councilwoman Jill, and then ride off back towards the forest. Apparently Jill had informed the council of the strategic ignorance of trying to bring an alien species that we already knew was rather tall and warlike, then try and stuff it into a room with diplomats and try and communicate.

So, we spent the next two days riding out to the forest and meeting up with the other forces. I couldn’t get over the irony that all the other cities had sent armies for this. I had only brought one of my wolf trainers in case my mount got unruly. They had snipers, hazard suits, swords and spears. I had a plainly designed sword and lance. They had trophies ranging from Yowler skulls to Rapedactyl bones and they had a large group of wolf riders. All I had brought was my Yowler leathers and a section of scrap silk I had turned into a keffiyeh. The contrast between our two groups was hilarious, but at least it was something familiar.

The thing that emerged from the forest…. Was in no way familiar.
>>
>>28408563
Who...or what is that?
>>
>>28408587
The Expat cocks his head to the side and speaks quietly to his wolf trainer.

"Did I accidentally eat one of the trippy bugs, or is he throwing a rave light show for us while speaking?

I still can't get over having our own light show. Wish I had some glow sticks and house music."
>>
>>28408563
The elf captain rode out with the high elf, their were three other elf leaders, and the army was ready for the first sign or violence towards the highest. When the high elf spoke he translated it to the humans, with his trademark smile and the echo of madness in his eyes "My lord the highest of elves, ask the name of your army, and if you serve the dark gods who brought you to this world, and finally do you fight, not just beast for food and protection, but for sport, honor, and belongings?" He would wait till there was a better time to translate to something he could get away with the others around him.
>>
>>28408563

Hmm. Broken wing - rapedactyl wing, if I'm not mistaken. I wonder if the Yowlers were the right response after all. I checked with the River Elf translator we had brought to make sure what the cultist said was accurate, first.

"We come from a distant world of great power where our people prosper. Great beings brought us to this land after speaking into our minds. Many of us died, for we came without preparation, but the strong among us lived and add the strength of our world to yours. We are now called The Confederacy of Teegee, our army the Crusaders.

The creatures brought too many of us to the Northlands, and we must fight them to survive. We do not seek to battle you, for we have battle enough with them. Instead, we seek trade and peace, that we may all grow stronger and our people may focus our efforts to the north.

Our purpose is to survive, to prosper, and for our children's children to one day return to our home should we get strong enough, to defy the beings that brought us here. We have no love for them, though we use their tools. Our weapons and knowledge are great, and we will let nothing stand in the way of those goals.

You are... 'other' to us as we are 'other' to you. We seek to understand you, for to us knowledge is a great source of strength."

Well - perhaps I'd been laying it on a bit thick. I seriously hoped I was judging right about their emphasis on war, and would not take it as an insult...
>>
>>28409180
The Expat leans in towards his fellow rider and whispers a sarcastic response to the snarky elf’s translation.

“Hah, it asks if we fight. Humans, the species that grew up killing their own brother for food, land, and women. We invented gods so that we could kill others in good consciousness. We built walls to defend ourselves, and massive weapons to tear down those walls. We created gunpowder to better kill each other. And most recently we created a weapon that was speculated to burn our own skies and destroy our world. I’d say we do war pretty damn well.”
>>
I pause and reflect, the shield of minds bearing forth to protect and I let my second voice grow soft.

They cannot speak, they are unable to understand my True voice...I weep inside and wish to cut them down for making me show weakness. I do not. I am young, impulsive flighted great hunter still. Wet down and weak feather. I watch them, eyeing each and Finally I pose the words. I sing as is custom, I tell them of how I laud them for marching to war for their Kin, to protect is an honor on high to see so many fearful nights here mounted is also a welcomness. They must be true warrior, of the Long War as we were then. I ask What flights are here, What Warrior Kings stand before my humble sword. For, though they fight of necessity I see it here, they are not as Other as they say.
>>
>>28409287
The elf turned from his master and translated " he says you are good for protecting your blood brothers, you are great warriors to if hunted this many yowlers, he asks for your armies names, and the warrior kings to stand before him, because you are not as different from them as you believe, because they to fight for all the things that you fight for" he turns and pointed out one with a high elf spear and tells the highest he was boating about how much better the weapons their people made before they were dragged away, and that the greatest weapon was one of sickly flame.

The Expat rides forward to introduce himself after noticing the snarky elf point him out and glow in a strange pattern to communicate with the others. One did not need a translator to know that he was talking about what was just whispered. As he rides forward he hooks the lance into the stirrup on his Scale Wolf and points it skywards.

“I am the Expat of the Tower. I am one of the warriors of my clan.

We do not have many warriors but each are highly skilled. We favor hunting our prey from shadows as well as lightning fast strikes with excessive force. My ‘wing’ fights as a group working skillfully off of each other’s actions to distract prey and take it down without being injured.

I personally prefer fighting alone for the glory it brings. I have been a wanderer among my fellow friends. In our language expat means a person residing in a country other than where they were born. I have always been a traveler, this is just a longer distance from home than I had expected.”

I considered for a moment. A warrior culture - most in the past bragged, but these were aliens...

Well. Might as well keep playing it up. They hadn't tried to kill me yet. Best to leave out my weasily tactics, though. Doubt they'd love to hear about how I used poison in battle.

"Before you stands many great warriors. I am the Mayor of Butterroot Keep, the bringer of flame. I slew the savage warrior Big Alex and took his keep, building it into a strong city. I fought at the second battle of Cadia to defend that city, and destroyed an army with a wall of fire. At my command, Yowlers were summoned to devour their men.

Standing next to me is The Expat, who wields the lance of light and slew many great beasts and their riders during that second battle with a single blow. In that battle he saved my life when I was thrown from the walls, fighting off a great many enemies to preserve me.

The men of Cadia stand here, proudest warriors of two great battles with the hordes of the north, who never bend, never break, and never yield.

The Lucky man stands here, who tamed the Scalewolves and brought them to battle against the elves.

The Rangers of Kog and River City stand here, greatest warriors of our lands, who control the mighty suits of battle and are charged to preserve and protect all who arrive in these lands. A duty they must often do alone, to battle yowlers to preserve the lives of those newly arrived.

The Men of Hades are not with us, but are great warriors who may come if we call. Those who have destroyed raiders, yowlers, and the leader of the great savage who led the hordes south to us.

We also have a speaker from the Elves of the south, who have slayed many savages and wish to join with us and add to our strength.

All those leaders who so wish may introduce themselves."

I take in these Wings, They have taken our Home, The ancient nests which my Ancestors made. Yet, they are like Them where I fail. They Fight and Kill and Wage the Long War where We took the mantle of Sudden Peace.

Shame is felt in my being for the second time to the Other. Shame at not being Able to Strike them down and Take what I wan, to take back our Home Nests. But, We are Sudden Peace, The end, The night.

I speak again now, Asking and defying my own instinct, Why was I called, whose Sword has been sullied here? And why have they Gathered such great warriors at once? Are there not wars to fight amongst each other?
>>
>>28409896
Oh yeah, that gets the creative juices bubbling. I might just do the builders tonight, as the design sounds pretty interesting.

Though I may have misunderstood the hexapoidal bit on this planet, are the fifth limbs usually on the chest, or the back?
>>
>>28410017
Genreally speaking the Sides or chest it varies with different families of animal. Strangely enough, that fore or mid limb set like to get moved around, Wamblers for example(think rabbits and shit) have theirs poised on their back while Scale wolves(think horse sized wolves) and Racing deer have forelimbs at their chest. Builder's basically have there's where their first limbs meet. The midlimb is like an appendix almost at this point except with hands.
>>
>>28410017
also there's six limbs to these fellas like bugs, I think that was covered in the past not sure still think bugs!
>>
>>28410074
Alright, that gives me a good frame of mind for what they look like then. I have a great idea for what they are.

>>28410115
As in the builders have six limbs? I thought they were originally hexapoidal?
>>
>>28410394
hex is six, you're thinking penta which is five.

The elf turned and told him before translating what the high elf said, telling him that we were attacked first by the lucky, that they fear war with the elves both of the high and low variety. He turned to the army "he asks who started the event I told him the Lucky's subordinate that started it by killing an elf that came in peace. He also asks why you broght an army, I told him it's because you fear war with both the highest and lowest elves. The last question is not one I can answer, he asks why are you here instead of fighting others. The wording he used for who started the fight was who fought with no honor, and the man you gave us told us that he wanted to leave but when he tried you set your beasts on him, and forced him to work logging" his grin got a little bigger " sadly as a human he acumen to the toxin of the inner forest"
>>
>>28410394
But now they are technically Two arms two legs like us, their arms are just fused by the membrane of what was a wing is all.
>>
>>28410418
"You twist your facts elf, your man lives and you know this. We treated him as best we could and returned him back to you alive. And the man we gave to you was a criminal, guilty of attacking your man and also guilty of attacking one of our young, he was serving his punishment before all this happened.

We do not fear war with you elf, we simply prefer to avoid it, especially with those who would simply avoid our warriors and murder our young in their beds."

How did you bargain for peace with someone who reverred war and not seem like an idiot for wanting to avoid it?

Why couldn't it just be more 'elves'`? Then we could just call bullshit on this all, they might be covered in fungus but they were still human under it all.
>>
>>28410418
I listened to the River Elf's translation, and to the forest elf's translation. Of course. It would be better not to deny his words, but to simply speak the truth in this case - I believed.

"It is true that we wished to cut down some of the trees of this forest. We came here, to the very edge of the forest, hoping to cut a path through to join with our spiritual brothers of /sci/ on the other side, and to use the lumber to create great ships of war to fight those who raid our coasts and slaughter and rape those that dwell there.

We have much other lumber, but sought these trees for their great strength, hoping to do no great damage to the forest, merely to create a small path for trade and scouting, and use the wood well in war.

A new man who had joined our settlement brought shame upon us by attempting to kill an innocent, unarmed woman of our people. We had him brought here to work in hard labor before we exiled him, to wander and be food for the Yowlers.

I do not deny that this fool struck first against the elf, for he was not a warrior, and feared he may be attacked. However, we healed and returned the elf who was struck down.

Once this was done, our people realized the shame of this action and offered to grant the fools life to the elves in restitution for his actions - an offer they refused. The northern elves then attacked our settlement, and killed innocent children.

We fought them, and held them away. Though we could have burned the forest, we did not, for many dwell there. Their men fought well and we took their wounded and healed them, returning them to the forest. We treated their warriors with honor.

Our warriors were not treated as warriors. They came back ill with strange parasites and were poorly treated.

The elves of the south act with honor, but the Elves of the north are savages, acting with none.

Our warriors are here in case they attack again, for though we have agreed to end battle, I do not believe they are sincere."
>>
>>28410623

I pause at this.
Is it true? I ask aloud my shout seen by all. Have these Others I'd taken for servants shown to be unfaithful to our way? Had they turned their backs? Their Other signs these words to me afraid and frantic. Fearful of wrath?

How lewd!

With the lights off no lense, such horrid perversion!
>>
>>28415020
Oh no, the lights are on. They have breeding rooms where they all get together once a season to procreate. The strongest warriors with the brightest or highest plummage go first, followed by the weakers who might have duller colored feathers.

Procreation is a means to increasing military might, not something to be enjoyed in darkness.

The mother then allows the rest of the wing to help raise the child. No child claims lineage to a specific father or mother, but rather an entire wing. The massive group based procreation helps remove this connection to a specific builder and instead it instills a group mentality.

Everyone tries to become stronger so they help the wing with the next batch of strong younglings.

Some wings even ritualized the act and have large festivities connected with the procreation ceremony. Others might have rituals for the birthing ceremony.

Day by day new wavers poor in and are being inducted into the horde, with our new methods we've managed to seperate the few of them with technical capabilities and those with ideas to improve our lands.

My Acolytes wander, preaching and teaching to the 'word' of 'Pappa Nurgle' to the unwashed masses. And I meant that quite literally, their work has made even the mere serfs feel a part of a greater whole. They work harder than they ever did as slaves and sections of the Wall rise by the hour.

Even those assigned to be Scholars seem to have caught the fervor and several have gathered together in the lower levels of the cathedral on a singular project. One of them had the caves in the mountains explored and aparantly found something interesting that has all of them fascinated. I simply pray they don't end up killing themselves in the pursuit of this project.

But for the first time since they have come here, to this alien planet, they feel pride, as if part of a true nation.

The nation, of /B/ubonicus.

Morning arrived and brought another day of working on the Albatross. We all went about our normal duties and honestly I think everyone is enjoying themselves.

Alan has been enjoying singing this little tune lately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTT-5ev-LLI

....
I-......
I dont even have the words.

*sigh* So, three of the new scholar blew themselves up. No two ways about it, three of them were messing with stuff down in the basement and blew themselves into bloody salsa.

At the time I was being briefed by the rest of the Scholars on their research when we felt a sudden shudder from down below. It seems our people found a series of cave full of, well, guano I guess. A number of coastal birds use it as their nesting area dn it is full of the stuff. Aparantly my scholars thought it would be awesome to use it to make, you guessed it, blackpowder. Sulfur also seems to be abundent enough to the southern end of peninsular in the peat like swamps there.

We will need to harvest some more as we lost the last of the samples of their research in the explosion, and the room as well. At the very least the notes were left over in order to replicate the work. The compound hasn't been perfected yet and seems unstable but with a new research lab, in an isolated hut outside of the Cathedral.

If they don't blow themselves up again they might just earn themselves the 'blessing' of Nurgle.

So do we have maps of settlements? Like in and around them?

nah, even the map of /tg/ is relatively new, but all mapfags are welcome

I knew I should have put my "scientist" notes on the anatomy.

Very thin waists: used to help with landing and support of the body. Through ribbed muscles, its waist/gut is incredibly strong, and the shape of the body helps for landing from incredible distances. It can all sort of compress in on itself, like suspension.

Well made point about the eye, I can prolly fix that, though I still enjoy dem bug eyes.
>>
>>28418973
I'm sure they'll be useful elsewhere and huh didnt think of that it makes sense. And oh christ...they're like fucking thin men.
>>
>>28418987
Description said that they were of particularly light build, so I made them gangly and long with elongated arms (because y'know, birds)
>>
>>28419006
Good point still...fucking creepy. They look shockingly human but..not. Like unnerving amounts of weird. Also I'm curious to see that mouth open.
>>
>>28419034
Shockingly human but not was EXACTLY what I was going for :D The mouth works a lot like a Sangheli (elites from halo), with the lower mandibles splitting apart to see no lower jaw. The lower mandibles have a few teeth in them in order to hold onto food while the upper mandibles help to feed it into their gullet. There's also a couple of small, nubbly teeth on the upper mandibles to help with biting off pieces of fruit.
>>
>>28419074
welp, that's disturbing to think about. I'd love to see them done up in armor and what not as I'd imagine they look baller with feather heads and shit.

well so much for having alien bird waifus...
>>
>>28419261
You can still have your alien bird waifu, it's just that they'll be a little more /d/ worthy.

It also doesn't help that I imagined a /little/ variation between males and females (namely, more floppy pecks and a more of a booty)
>>
>>28419487
Wait would they even have tits? It says nothing about how they raise their young so I cant imagine they'd breast feed if theyre bird like
>>

good point though still, if anything it'd be more disturbing. Besides builder with booty would be plenty for most I get the feeling. Dem egg laying hips and all

I pause, They grunt and howl like Beasts. Still Other. I sign to their Other servant the one like the currs that I now stand admidst. I shudder with the shame they bring me, they are cowards if what they are saying is truth. Not Long War but of Night hunter of Sudden Peace and Sullied blades.

'How many hatchlings?' I finally ask in the two tongued way, light and song mingling with mourning over the loss of their nestlings.

"Two dead, three others poisoned but recovering. The rest were adults but not warriors of any sort, several were previousy injured women.

If this was simply a case of a border skirmish or a raid on loggers who new there was danger I would not raise the issue, I could move passed that much easier."

After that I just got quiet, I could tell this thing was at least partially on our side. But even if he was, I couldnt shake the feeling that it may of been for entirely the wrong reasons.

The elfs smileing face turned stoic, He took off his helmet, and knelt at the high elves feet. "I will admit I attacked a house on the edge of the settlement. If their were any attack this would be one of the first hit. I also threw the spores on their farm. The poison is the weapons that all elves use to weaken predators, and each battle lasted only minutes. As in the forest I treated all adults like warriors, it is my fault for assuming that only warriors live in the outer ring. I have followed you rules of war, but I have acadently dishonered you, then slay me here where those whos clan I have wronged by accident may see my death. If not then take my hand and allow me to continue to serve as your gaurs captain.

He was unphased. Though it was Right for him to admit he had been wrong, that he was the one to sully the blade. With an oiled click the saber came free of its scabbard. Turning he chose the first of the recompense.

The blow was clean, he had since first hatching been taught the way of the silvered strike, of the ending. This was the Way of Sudden peace. Five times he swung and five times bodies fell to the ground each an elven guard caught stunned. The last tried to block to no avail. The Sudden Peace, the Negotiation had been mandated. Five in Return for Five. Turning towards The Cur he said as much flicking the blood of his comrades upon his face.

He was no longer Unblooded it would seem. A name would be given when he returned to the Keep.

"This is the Peace. Let it be Said, and Let the Priest of Red Sun and Last Moon see it to the end. The bodies, burned their ashes scattered and no songs sung of this battle. It is a Blight upon Both Wings and a Sullied blade to be returned to the fires which it came. Peace is here upon this field. No Long War will be ushered today or for four more. Upon that end You shall be cleansed of Dishonor."

He pauses to turn towards the cur.
"And should I hear that you practice the way of Screaming Night again, I shall personally ensure you find Peace."

The Elves had brought the prisoner that started this whole mess.

I asked that he be brought so that restitution could be made. It wasn't that I was bloodthirsty or wanted to do this - I could sense the ritual underlying the whole ordeal.

In all honesty, he was just a confused dumbass. But he had attempted to murder a girl, and that alone was enough to have gotten him executed. Our mercy - which we would not forego for others, even after this - was to exile him. And look what he had caused.

There was no loss here.

"Our people have our own means of execution." I said simply, and pointed a pistol at his head. He would have escaped had the elves not held him. "Your actions nearly brought war upon us, nearly killed us all. On top of your attempted murder, you have more than proven that you deserve to die. Should you be religious, you have the right to hear your last rights first. A paladin will attend to you."

The man - a big blubbery idiot - started to cry, and said nothing. I hate executions. This is not the first I've had to perform since arriving, but it feels dirtier than war.

I raised my pistol and shot well. A round went into his eye with the crack of thunder and he fell lifeless to the ground.

"Restitution is made. Peace for the proper time; the army shall leave this place. We shall also halt efforts to log the forest here."

"It saddens me to make our first meeting one such as this. Our race has always been alone and it gladdens our heart to find another which can think and understand. We leave now to attend to our newly brought kin from our world, and to battle the savages in the north."

“Well, now that’s a sight you don’t see every day. Sort of poetic to kill the estranged elf’s guards as punishment for his actions. Sure he won’t likely make the same mistake again, but the poor sods who had protected him and done no wrong were now cleaved and lying dead on the ground.

The poetic actions of the alien glow stick were a stark contrast to the finality of a gunshot that echoed across the field. Where one was corrected so that he might continue to learn, the human verdict was one with a sharp finality that only a bullet to the head can bring. Poor guy was whimpering and begging for his life up until the end. Not that I don’t agree with what was done, no… it was a perfect representation of how we humans react in such a situation. After all, everyone says if you make a time machine the first thing you have to do is go kill Hitler.”

The Expat shifts his weight in the saddle of his Scale Wolf and turns back to the field and all the various groups of humans and aliens standing in it.

“And here I was thinking I might be needed. Guess it’s time to return home. After all, no one else is willing to go collect the Glow Moth’s and we’ve got a quota of silk to produce if we plan on taking over the clothing industry on this world.”

The Wolf tamer that accompanied him merely nods in agreement before the both turn their mounts and begin to trot off.

“Sure hope they have someone smart enough to learn something from those dead glow sticks. We might be having some proper and honorable fights with them soon with the way the big one spoke of war.”

Arent you gonna burn the bodies oh priest?
>>
>>28424032
I had to consider the options before me. I wanted to have an autopsy conducted on those elves. However, we already had the bodies of elven warriors from the earlier conflict, so they were unnecessary.

Were the elves not present, I would say that autopsies are a rite of our people - but they were present, and would protest. Their dim memories of human life would certainly include reasons for autopsy.

I nodded to the Expat. It was a waste of the power, but he could do it.
>>
>>28423977
As we turned to leave the field everyone turned and watched us. Each human had a look of “Umm, where are you going?” on their face as if they expected me to do something. I turned to my co-rider and she pointed at the bodies of the slain elves.

“It wants you to burn them, sir”

Fucking Super Glow Stick apparently thought I was one of the old priests and left me to clean up his mess.

I ended up immolating the bodies as well as a large section of the field they were in after switching the staff to a continuous beam. I can’t say burning mushroom men smell good, but they made a lot of pretty colors when combined with holy fire from the Sky. Now that I’m back home I’ve drafted up a receipt for one charged mote stone that I’m sending with Jack to the Mayor. Damned thing drained over half of one of my stones just to deal with one of their rebellious members, and I didn’t even get to kill anything. I don’t really expect him to send me one, but it should be funny when Jack tells me his reaction.

As per normal I’ve sealed the letter so Jack has no idea what he is delivering. Poor kid, I hope the rest of the cities follow the old motto of not shooting a messenger, because I’m trying really hard to get him into some funny situations.

I've returned to to keep. The Other's priest did as he was told, He too seems to be able to touch the godkin mantle.

It's fearsom, that light. But now I wait within my chambers honing my blade as the naming ceremony commences. My actions were neither honorable nor dishonorable. For I did not seek conquest of the enemy and merely settled. But, nor did I retreat from them and their strange weapons. I've spoken of these that crack like tree limbs. The elders wish to see them and have spoken to the Forge mother as to weather she can coax such things from Fires and steel. for now I Shed the mantle of Sudden Peace, Embracing my Father's Father's aspects and wear the Long War again. I'm eager to deal with these strange beings, The Hue-menz. They live within the Nests as we did and Wage Long War as we had. It makes me wonder, wonder if perhaps others beyond Sundered wing still fly.

I prepared to leave. The refugee camp would need to be tended to, and the armies would be needed to gather up the Seventh wave, already popping up across the land.

That went better than I had expected. No war on the border. Few dead, and peace. At least for now.

They have their rites and rituals and, like any ritualistic culture, seem to be confused at the thought of something not meeting their expectations. I had firmly established us as a warrior culture in their mind, but that didn't mean that the peace was lasting. Rather than being intimidated by the gunshot, that creature seemed... invigorated. I'm glad I decided not to give it trade goods. Keeping earth tech out of their hands should be a top priority of the Confederacy. We can't keep the elves from talking, but thankfully they don't seem to have the best memory of the old world, or the organization to build firearms.

We'll keep our logging efforts to the area around River City, and to prevent any conflict, we'll leave that to the elves themselves. I'm quite sure they can decide on a means of sustainable logging if we provide them the tools, and none of us need to risk infection. It's a shame about the new arrivals to the forest - I suggested to our representative that they set up a refugee camp for them as we have done for ours, where they can learn to survive and not be eaten by the wildlife or killed by parasites. I have no idea whether he'll actually do it though.

The real risk of this wave wasn't so much the raiders and cultists formed among the survivors of the wilderness - we could handle those now. The real danger was losing that much manpower, that much knowledge. Each dead man could have been a doctor or a scientist, and we desperately needed every practical skill we could get - not to mention hands to train in basic skills for the rest.

We had more than enough landmass to support an enormous population, but none of the infrastructure. Let's hope fewer die this time.

The dreams continue to persist; in fact I think they’ve gotten more lucid after meeting the other builder. After the most recent dream where James found me curled up under the altar in our armory I realize this might become a problem.

The dream is always in the same location. I am standing or walking through the city of stone hewn from the mountain side. Water is always present and cascades down the mountain through the entire city. In some dreams I am standing around a large stone table with other Builders. The image of these Builders is a lot clearer now, but I think that might be my brain filling in what it now knows. Another dream I walk through the city with a group of younglings. I think I’m teaching them because in these dreams I am very expressive with body language and they are all nodding along with whatever I am saying. I feel like I am an important figure to the Builders of this mountain city, either a teacher or warlord. The dreams conflict on which one it is.

The lucid dream that I had which resulted in me curling up under the altar where I found my spear was the clearest. The city was besieged by another wing. They had superior forces of Gigants approaching our walls and we were preparing our own Gigants when a new War Suit revealed itself within our war council. At first it was just a pair of red eyes floating into the room, but once it had bisected one of my guards the blood revealed its general shape. Two more guards and assistants fell before the others could draw their swords. It was slowly working its way towards me, beheading and chopping all of my men apart with a deadly grace. A guard that had been cleaved in half at the hip managed to grab hold of the leg of this monster and stagger it. My guardians all piled on it, stabbing with short blades and pulling cables out of the suit. It died, but not after taking nearly 20 of my men down.
>>
>>28430790

The remainder of the battle is blurry because that is the point that James found me and woke me up, but I have a feeling we lost the battle and were forced to flee the city. I hope the Hunters I sent up north to find that place are not in any danger.

The Third cohort marched out half an hour ahead of mine. We needed to allow them time to feed their 500 troops through the breach in the walls and begin to take the city. As it was going to be city fighting each cohort would be splitting into independent squads of anywhere from two men to twenty an fighting through the streets and houses. Anything vile was to be destroyed; anyone caught it a lewd act was to be mercilessly slaughtered. The third was eager for action. Unfortunately for them, so were the Deviants.

After thirty minutes my cohort began our breach of the walls. I was leading my men from the front to keep their moral up while everyone tried not to gag on the stench or throw up from the sights inside the city. Immediately after entering the walls we could see corpses. A few of our legionaries and a lot of desecrated bodies in various states of decay were spread around the ground. We had agreed to mark each building cleared with a black ‘x’ of charcoal above the door and from a brief inspection all of the buildings immediately in the breach were cleared. We pushed further in so that the following cohorts could enter the walls.

After about 15 minutes we came to a small plaza where several roads converged. In the middle of the plaza was a large stone statue of one of the ancient four armed things. The Deviants had carved all kinds of wooden things and attached them to the statue to display a truly grotesque image of violation and depravity. I was in the process of pulling down one of the statues of a cow breasted females being impaled on a wooden cock coming from the ancient when a shout rang across the plaza. A small dirty man came running out of the shadows with his dick in his hand yelling that he wasn’t finished yet. One of my squad members impaled him on a spear and. . . the sickening cry of ecstasy as he orgasmed and died would haunt me for days.
>>
>>28431260
We cleared out several additional buildings before following one of the roads into a main road of the city. The road was wide enough for fifty men to walk side by side so we regrouped several squads into larger units and continued moving. We had seen no signs of the Third apart from the few unfortunate bodies. When we reached the steps of their “palace” we understood why we hadn’t seen the Third. The steps of the building were littered with corpses and viscera. Nearly a hundred men of the Third lay broken at the steps and an additional twenty were busy engaging two massive demons.
>>
>>28431281
Standing well over ten feet tall these metal creatures were covered in spikes and debauchery. Murals painted on them depicted scenes out of a person’s darkest nightmares. A massive barbed canine cock on one was busy impaling one of the Third and shredding his body, while the other demon possessed a multipronged tentacle cock that was turning another legionnaire into a pin cushion. My squad was on the brink of breaking simply at the sight when I ordered my Hastarii to fall back and the Princeps to take defensive wall formations. It took a second shout of commands to break them out of the torpor they had fallen into, but the men began to function as they were trained. My /k/ Triarii fell in behind the Princeps and began to open up on the canine demon. Not a lot of things can deal with twenty rifles blasting away at it, but this actually turned and started charging our lines. One of the hastarii had managed to create a Molotov cocktail from his bag and nailed the demon in the face with it.

Girlish screams of pain erupted from inside the beast as it opened up to reveal a naked young man with his eyes melting off after having burning liquor splashed in them. The demons were piloted by men. They were grotesque refits of the Gigant’s we had left in Mossingburg. We knew how to take them down now as all Gigant’s had open eye slits for the pilot to see out of the chest. One of the triarii with a high powered rifle put a round through the skull of the tentacle demon’s pilot and we were left with only the screams of the wounded.

I climbed into the canine Gigant and booted up the systems. I had never had the pleasure of piloting one of those beasts of war, but it was a true rush of adrenaline. I feel bad for my men having to follow the demented creation across the battlefield and towards their leader’s homes, but I was damned sure I wouldn’t allow another legionnaire to fall in this city while I could breathe.

I knew how to keep focused and pick the cocoons without losing my sense of time; maybe I could try the stairs and make it down now. However, just looking down the uniform never ending stairwell made me realize I couldn’t make it without having something else to focus on. Next time I return, I’m bringing a book so I can focus on the book while walking and not let the stair case distort my perception.

The book worked wonderfully. I made it far enough down the stairs to locate a landing area with a massive set of murals carved into the walls. A quick glance at the stairs reveal even more descending darkness, a glance at my watch tells me I spent an hour looking at it.

As I walk around the halls and shine light across the murals the still pictures begin to take shape in my mind and my imagination animates the actions of the ancient warriors.

----
The Forsaken Flight

Originally a proud wing of Builders, the Forsaken Flight is now a disgraced shell of what it once was.

In a distant war long forgotten to the perils of time two groups of builders met on the field of battle. The ensuing carnage left one wing dead to the last man, woman, and child. The reasons why the other group would sully their hands and dishonor their wing with killing the younglings as well as women is a fact also lost, but they did not know that a single priestess and her guard had escaped their violent purge.

Busy attending to the business of communing with the Sky God at the Wind Talker and receiving the gifts of his offering, a single priestess and her 5 guardians survived the ruthless purge of their home. When they returned to find their city crushed with no survivors they wept in despair. Unwilling to take men from other wings as they were too proud to fly under another, and unable to repopulate their own wing they were now alone.
>>
>>28432688
The priestess returned to the Sky God to commune and seek guidance, for they did not wish to lower their heads and ask for aid from any other wing, they wanted to stay the strong and proud wing they once were. The Sky God’s response was less than favorable. The Sky God wished to test their faith with an alternative mode of warfare. He would take the life of the priestess so they could no longer commune with him and he would take their honor of proper warfare, but in return he would bless them with 5 suits of armor that would allow them to sneak through the night and even catch a Yowler sleeping.

Their honor was cast out, the name of their wing sullied beyond repair, their priestess dead, and they became the Forsaken Flight. Unable to commune with the Sky God, unhonorable to stand with other wings on the battlefield, they became assassins for hire. Their services sold in secret, and the actions of the Flight performed in shadows. Wings across the continent would begin to tell their young horror stories of the dreaded Red Eyed ghost that would come and claim young who did not practice or grow strong.

----
After looking over the entire mural I checked my watch again. At first I thought it had only been half an hour, then I looked at the date and realized it had been over 12 hours, or nearly a full day on this planet. I stuck my nose back in the book and worked my way up the stairs. By the time I collected the bags of moths and stumbled back out of the cave exhaustion and hunger nearly crippled me and the Hunters that came with me were forced to set up camp outside the cavern to help nurse me back to health.

I hate walking. Well let me rephrase I hate walking when I'm with Bjorn. I can feel it there, in the back of my mind egging me on. Filling my head with images and their battle stances. The machine moves me and vice versa all this shit feels crazy when you get right down to it. I mean fuck..I used to just be a guy who happened to be really into mecha, when I first came here I'd play battletech and work with the Farmers guild now...I don't touch my minis, I sit there and stare at that fucking thing and itch and want to scream and bash my head in when they tell me they need me. But I know why, and it scares me. I'm scared to Walk again...I'm not sure it'll be me coming back.

So Lucky has me leading this expedition down into the Underdark, yeah, thats what Da Boyz are calling it. Remind me to throttle the lot of them when Im back.

Anyways the cyclops says it might be a good idea to keep a journal, both as a way of dealing with the stress and as a log in case we die and only our bodies can be recovered, jolly bastard.
We've managed to round up nine people for the expedition, me, and Bernie, who usually work the trade route between the Keep and River City, Frieda is one of the Paladins and also one of our medics, Peter, Rod and Hugh are all Boyz acting as the expedition guards, Terry and Chrissa are a medic and cook respectively, and finally we have a hunter who insists on being called Thaldor, I think it should be easy to gues the reason why 'he' was assigned to this trip.

Still the best news for the group is the glow moths. Lucky pulled through when he was down south and worked out a deal with the mayor of the Tower for them in exchange for some iron. One of those in a plastic or glass bottle and you have and instant lamp, just have to make sure poke some air holes in it.

With threee boats loaded with three persons each and full supplies and gear for a couple weeks trip if necessesarry, Rod was even cleared to bring one of the Keeps rifles.

Now here we are, sitting in the near dark underneath several hundred feet of earth and rock while we float towards who knows where.

I've never been much for writing a diary or a journal so I'll probablly only write again if anything interesting goes down.

Tucker, C. Expedition Leader

I really didn't expect to have to leave so soon after getting back to Butterroot Keep from the north, but when I heard we would be having a proper peace summit with the head of the elves there wasn't anything that was going to stop me.

The actual meeting was both suprising and underwhelming. Turns out the elves follow, something, an alien I suppose, but it was nothing like what I was expecting. Its certainly not one of the things that brought us here and its more primitive than we ever were back home. But its commited to its ideals if nothing else. It killed five fo the murderers men when he was told of their crimes, and even if I can't have his head, the deaths of the others involved brings me some sense of peace. I still plan on increasing defensive measures however, I may have accepted an apology but im not about to turn my naked back to them.

It was also good to see representetives from each of the other settlements there, including Jill for the Tower, but I'll get to her later. I had been meeting to contact them all at some point and this was the perfect chance to pose the prospect of a proper inaugeration day for the Confederacy. Have a big festival and 'holiday' to commerate the whole event and as a chance to show case what each settlement had achieved and what they bring to our union. Make them feel connected to each, make them real. The British Empire used to hold them to make the colonies seem real to the people of britain, I dont see why we couldnt do the same here.

Im unsure if they took me seriously, of all of those gathered I felt like the lowest ranked person there, only invited because of my direct involvement with the elves. I guess we will see if it happens or not.

But liek I said Jill was also present, the one who seems to delight in making a spectacle of me infront of my own men, aparantly now she works as the Towers representetive to the Confederacy. That blew my mind, when I first met her she was just a trader from a small new settlement, we were on pretty equal levels, now she's one of the people who can make decisions that affect all of the Confederacy.

So yeah, I think I was justifiably nervous when I went to talk to her again, at least this time all of my boys were still back in Butterroot. I did need to talk with her though, with our new abundance of metal and their production of that fancy silk and their clothing, I'd been thinking of a trade agreement for a while now. Not to mention the need to hammer out a fair deal and negotiate gave me a reason to ask her to have dinner with me after the council meeting was over. The only problem was that she had that look again, that look that said she had the deal all figured out allready and was just waiting for me stumble on it myself, really infuriating.

Still it was interesting to hear about these so called 'glow moths', when I was told how bright they glowed and how long they lasted out of their cave I knew we needed some, not for their silk, we neither have the knowledge, the people or the need for that but we did have a pitch black dark tunnel to explore.

I did make sure to catch up with the Mayor, its been strange not having him around the Keep, ever present and ever directing, like a train conducter checking to see if every train came in on time. His work on Camp Abaddon is important though and I can't think of a better person to be put in charge of training a rabble of helpless newbies. It was saddening to see the first fo Hades wasn't present but I guess that just meant he was serious about his exiting the Confederacy, a shame.

But I have other things to worry about right now, like the ruins to the north.

Confederate Day, lord I never thought I'd say that. Apparently it's some sort of Festival that's being cooked up by the Council of our little nation state. It's gonna be a few weeks getting it all together but the main shindig is of course held at the apiary for the higher ups. Us Guilders and Townies though we get a few days off from work and get to party like its 1999 again. Personally I'm all for it, some of those Cadian girls ain't half bad and apparently we're all supossed to be sending people around to get to know each other. Though knowing my luck I'll end up sent to River city. I fucking hate that place.

Well, being the councilwoman for the Tower isn’t all that bad after all. Nice food from across the known lands, warm beds supplied by one of the guilds in Kog, and men fawning over you to try and touch the power that you hold.

The Rider from Butterroot approached me shortly after the armies finished talking with those creepy elves. He had heard that the Tower was seeking sources of metal ores in trade for some of our goods and apparently the Keep has struck a small mine. He requested to hammer out a trade agreement over dinner, as if I didn’t see his ulterior motive with that suggestion, but I played along nonetheless. After all, when you’re only producing roughly 50 pounds of metal per annum and most of it is reworked metal scavenged from dead bodies you take what trade deals you can get.

The dinner was nice. We had a nice appetizer of some wheat bread the apiary was trying to make work dipped in a special honey and spice mixture the Apiary has been testing. They make a good combination of sweetness and help bring out the floral scent and taste of the flowers the apiary bees use for their honey. The meal was some kind of grilled fish that apparently came from the rivers near Kog. It was lightly seasoned with sea salt from the coast as well as zest from one of the recent rain season oranges. The final end to the meal, and what we continued to consume while discussing the trade deal was a light tasting honey mead. I’ve at least had the past week to grow used to this sneaky stuff as it is extremely strong for how light it tastes, the Lucky Rider wasn’t so lucky to know that before the fact.

Apparently the Keep wanted to trade for some of our silks. As we were producing at least 1 bolt of fabric surplus per day we had been stockpiling it for this trade. I told the Rider that 1 bolt could produce clothing and undergarments for 1 person if they chose to create robes similar to the fashion the Tower had adopted. If they wanted to skip the clothes then they could make undergarments for up to ten people with a single bolt. As the Tower had become very skilled at working this fabric it was suggested that we produce the clothing for the Keep. Of course this would only increase the trade value, but it would prevent the Keep from ruining sections of the fabric without knowledge of how to work the alien material. Sure there was no difference between the fabric and Earth silk, but he didn’t have to know that.

The Rider was very curious about the alien creature that produces the silk for us. I spent a little time explaining that the Glow Moth was found in a specific cavern we had located and while living, the moth cocoon glows blue. Once we began the process to harvest the silk strands it lost the glow. The Rider inquired about a source of constant light and if he could acquire more of these moths to use as lighting.

While I did enjoy my nice new cushy job, this is where things get harder. At the current time only the Expat is willing to enter the cavern, and he is just as likely to up and leave as he is to keep harvesting moths for the next year. I couldn’t confirm shipment of moths without foreknowledge of how many we could retrieve, and we would also have to retrieve additional to supplement those we take for the silk production.

I ended up simply smiling at the Rider before rubbing the tips of my fingers together and saying, “Now that… that’s gona cost you.”

The meal had been pleasant and the company even better, but even my latent awkwardness couldn't blind me to the fact that I was, at least to a certain level, being played. She was pleasant and friendly but the feeling never left that she was getting exactly what she wanted out of the deal the entire time.

All my doubts left me when she had offered that damn mead and I'd been fool enough to start drinking it like it was a plain lager. Then the alcohol started hitting me and damn did it sneak up on you. Still, I'd seen my share of strong liqour in my life and although it was strong for its taste it wasn't all that potent in comparison to the whisky we drank regularly up in the Keep and from what I remember they didn't much of anything back in the Tower.

She also didn't seem to realize I had actually made sure to examine the silk from earlier and although it was from a different source it felt no different from earth silk, if maybe a little less refined. So when she brought up the silk work my pleasant buzz was actually just enough for me to smile and call her out on it and insist that while we would be happy to trae for some of their nicer pieces of clothing, we would rather trade for bolts of the fabric in exchange for iron. We might not get it on the first try but we would work out the method just like them and be able to produce our own clothing, and styles, when we did.

I might, possibly, per chance, be a little infatuated with the woman but I wasn't going to let her lead me around by the nose on this. This wasn't simply goods being produced off of my farm for a new jacket or some shoes, this concerned the work of a lot of different people back at the Keep, who did not answer directly to me unlike my boys.

Still, no reason to be rude about it, I could be polite but firm on a stance, that was the advantage of being raised an englishman.

Maybe not for all the reps... Jill is a manipulative bitch and she has been working her magic to acquire all the creature comforts she can while still appearing the innocent girl from the small town to all the big city reps.

The Apiary is also the breadbasket for Kog, so they've got specialty chef's there testing out ideas for food alternatives and ever since the council moved there they can test those things on the councilmembers.

It's not all perfect though...

Just yesterday one of the chef's tried a boiled chitinous bug with sauteed herbs and mushrooms. The mushrooms had a rough texture, but were still tasty even if they caused mild numbness in the mouth. The bug was a different story though... Everyone that ate it spent the rest of the day vomiting and having mild hallucinations. Apparently boiling doesn't prevent the bug from poisoning itself and causing bad trips in the creature that consumes it.

I want to clarify, these stealth suits are dishonorable to the builders and the sky god only provided 5 as prototypes. I'm writing about them because another anon put up the idea for the suit and I felt like recognizing it. I will write additional deaths for the other 3 suits... the 4th I may turn into a holy grail item.
>>
>>28434767
Then she brought up the Glow Moths and I knew we would have some difficulty. I knew it would be difficult to get ahold of them, I mean, they were the source of their silk but it almost seemed like she wasn't mentioning something about them beyond that. If it had been a case of wanting to protect their monopoly then I doubt she would be willing to trade, but she did which meant there was more to it. Or at least I suspsected there was.

"I figured you might say something like that...what if we could offer you something a little less conventional. I can't guarantee you anything yet but when I left Butterroot, the miners had recently unearthed something there. We aren't 100% sure yet but itf it does turn out to be one, what would the Tower say, what would you say, to having your very own pet Gnome?"

It was a little reckless and maybe a part of it was the mead talking but even looking back now I don't regret it. We already have two of them and from the looks of things, there are likely to be more scattered across the mountains, and with the help of the Scale Wolves at hauling heavy loads, we don't desperately need this one. Additionally I believe we settlements need to support one another and if the Tower didn't even have a Dwarf yet then they needed the Gnome much more than we did.

Of course, it all relied on the newest boulder actually containing one of the damn things.

>>28434302
It was worth the effort to try and convince him to purchase our finished products, after all, James and the rest of the Tower wanted to establish a monopoly on clothing. We ended up renegotiating the deal for a few finished products as well as a large portion of our current surplus of bolts. Kathelyn might be a bit mad that her design she calls “Telvanni robes” aren’t going to be so easily spread across the nation, but she can get over it.

It might have been the fact the Tower actively avoids producing alcohol that I misjudged the mead’s potency, or maybe the Rider was just a very good drinker. I always had mixed feelings about men who could hold their liquor. On one hand, they could actively keep up with me and were entertaining, but on the other I couldn’t control them as easily as a poor drunk sod. If he was a good drinker like I suspected this might turn out to be fun now that he is learning how to stand up and avoid me leading him by the nose.

As we moved into the discussion of trading for the Moth’s he mentioned having a gnome to trade. I had read the reports on these big robots and how useful they would be to work the mine or harvest the glow moths. It may end up taking a LOT of trips into the caverns for moths to trade, but I could deal with the Expat, we were going to have one of these robots stuck in stone. We finished the deal on the bolts of silk as well as drafted up an agreement for nearly 300 pounds of the glow worms in exchange for the gnome if they found it in the rock. Only one third of the little blue guys would be delivered upon confirmation of the Gnome, the remainder would be harvested by the Gnome and delivered at a secondary date.
>>
>>28435016

We settled on the number of Glow moths for the potential Gnome, I wasn't all to happy about the need to wait for the Gnome to harvest the last two thirds of the shipment but I was willing to cave on that issue but in return I insisted on a handfull of the things being sent in advance.

I explained the need for them, the dark tunnel and a need for a portable light source, we would only need about eight of the things for the actual expedition and would be willing to wait a little longer on the rest for that.

I'm still not sure what this woman thinks of me, after the deal was concluded I couldn't help but think she was measuring me or something, I have no idea. In the end I decided to ignore the feeling and simply ride the buzz and enjoy the pleasant company.

In the end I tipped my hat and said my good bye, telling her that I hoped to see her for the Confederate Day celebrations.

Current Artifacts:
Dwarves - 4 foot tall robots, run on ethanol, mote stones and sunlight, 72 hour runtime

Gnomes - 8 foot tall robots, run on ethanol, mote stones and sunlight, 48 hour runtime

Lesser Lance - Spear with adjustable settings of laser megadeath

Banhammer - Powerful hammer like artifact that is directed to 'ban' rule breakers

Gigant - Armoured powersuits with neural feedback(adjustable armaments and decor)

Stealth Gigat - Smaller powersuit with active camo, only 5 known to have existed, assumed to be all destroyed

Alchemist - Think the black monolith from Space Odyssey crossed with a replicator, can instantly construct simple items with the proper raw materials

And whatever the hell /x/ is.

x is the city built upon the remains and prison of an avatar of the Sky God called the Giant. The Giant rebelled against god and a massive schism happened where several artifacts were created to combat him. In the end the Sky God threw him down and entombed him beneath /x/. His influence now seeps out and corrupts the inhabitants of Lenore, part of the reason the world is so crazy.

Anyone who lives in the city above /x/ is subject to his influence on a subliminal level. Crazy shit happens there, and /x/ loves it. As for what crazy shit... I don't know how to explain it yet because I'm still doing research for writing /d/ and that's quickly corrupting me. Hopefully writing for this doesn't turn into a real life CoC and I don't sprout a tail, snake tongue, tits, and a 24 inch cock with 5 testicles the size of basketballs.
