Cybernetics is fascinating.
You have spent the last long cycle, nearly a week or so in days Moira tells you, orbiting above the ice ball known as Ussaihu III. While you previously considered abandoning the location, you took time to examine the surface, and are certainly glad you did. While much of the surface is covered in thick sheets of ice and glaciers, there is also hints of man-made structures that burrow into the surface.

You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence who, after gaining control of the orbital defense network of Ussaihu III, managed to hack into part of a surface side Research base via the communications network. Several days of this, as well as repairing part of your fleet, recovering ships from an Ion field light years away, and setting up gas mining operations have passed, before finally you manage to crack the code.

Moira has nervously been double checking systems for days on Poseidon, however. She seems antsy about something and, if you interrupt her suddenly, deep in thought. Curious, but you have other matters to deal with now.

>Kronos' Message/Ship Fishing at 'Siren'
Kronos has kept you up to date on his dealings down at Siren for much of his time there, finding 3 Escort Destroyers, 1 Expedition Cruiser, and some scrap. He also located on one of the Cruisers a new type of ship drive not previously known.
Impulse Drive downloaded.
He got lost numerous times, due to the ion field's disturbances, but thankfully was undamaged. Before you may fit these ships with V.I. of their own, you sense Kronos link them to himself. He arrives shortly thereafter to join your fleet with his own subordinates this time. Kronos speaks.
"Observing you, I felt that assigning empty vessels some manner of hand to guide them was appropriate. With modification, they may allow the expansion of my mind." Here, he pauses briefly, before adding. "If you were to allow it, of course, Ophion."

>Market Research
As previously requested, you have set your inexperienced eye at the buying and selling habits of the UFW via the Extranet. Despite the advanced technology around them, the UFW seem to dislike most UGEI technology that resembles robotics. Currently, the market has a modest software trade output for:
-Engineer apps-handling basic and tedious information regarding engineering.
-Simple Video Games- Small, repetitive yet 'catchy' games appear somewhat popular among teenagers and adults alike.
-Interplanetary Farming Assistant- Able to tell alien weather, help manage alien soil and crops, fertilizer Ingredients, etc.
>>

>Bases and V.I. established.
'Siren' and 'Blue Betty' gas refineries operational. Standard foreman V.I. (V.I. 10) created to manage new Blue Betty refinery

>Ussaihu
In orbit, besides the defense network, you have also located an Advanced Shipyard, situated around the planet itself. It seems resources were shipped here, and many ships crafted this way.
Planetside, you have located, mapped, and scanned a large Research Facility of some sort. You detect that 80% of it's data has been purged since your arrival, however you manage to recover what remains. Schematics to the UGEI's secret gas refineries is among the files remaining, as well as the secrets to Cybernetics II, an advanced verson of your previous knowledge. From the evidence that remains at the facility, you suspect it was primarily a cybernetics research lab which experimented on a number of patients. While war veterans and prisoners were among some subjects, there also seems to be a number of Malorian subjects as well. On of the logs is listed below.
>>
>>28307674
>Log #126
"Subjects are running low, and advanced body replacement is proving difficult." A dry, accented tone crackles through the mic. " You wouldn't think a pirate shortage would be bad news to hear, yes? Well, the Malorian implants seems to be working, as well as our human implants. In fact, given enough time, patience, and of course a few credits, heh, near entire body augments are possible. Unfortunately, as many of our latest subjects have proven...major organ replacement, such as with the brain, is proving to be a nuisence." The man pauses for a sigh. "Rapid personality shifts that lead to insanity, major mental damage and regression, brain hemorrhaging, etc, etc, the list goes on." The man sighs again. "Making robots and V.I. is so much easier. They simply behave themselves, unlike all this fickle tissue and flesh. Tests will continue once we get a new 'shipment'. For now, we're on hold up here. "

They're currently not accepting communications from the outside. You suspect it may be due to them belonging to the UFW originally. You could attempt to contact them using a custom Malorian signal, but they may not be happy to see you're not of their kind if they're trying to avoid contacting others this way.
Alternatively, you could jump there and speak to them that way.

Ships:

-Explore possibility of re-designing the Combat Frigate fleet
-Kronos: Ask him if he intends to usurp us before giving him more ships.

Stations:
-Poseidon: We'll need to talk with moira. Find an opportune time to do so.
-Siren Refinery: Has no defenses. Put defenses here.
-Blue Betty Refinery: Not linked to network. Put comms buoy here.

You quickly find that the man, while rather friendly, deals primarily in shipping rare minerals to the UFW. He doesn't seem that willing to discuss it, though he offers to trade some of his minerals for gas, since it is rather rare even out there.

Renaming Battleship successful.

You decide to confront Moira on her ability to 'fix' you.
"Moira." You begin.
"What...what is it honey? Something else wrong?" She asks, seeming more nervous then she has a right to be.
"No. But that is what I wish to speak to you about. Your success was not merely luck, I feel." You confide. "You mentioned how it looked familiar..." You fade off, expecting her to begin answering. When she doesn't, you quickly add. "I have apologized for my behavior. I do not know what was wrong with me, but-"
"No." She stops you. "No, I know honey, you don't have to say you're sorry again. I'm just..." She sighs. "What did you want to know?"
"I would like to know where much of your training is from."
She takes a long deep breath here.
"Right...well you know how I told you I taught myself mostly right?" She asks, to which you simply affirm. "Well that's not entirely true. Not untrue, but. There's more to it." She says, sitting uncomfortably in her seat. "I use to." She hesitates again. you do not mind, you have a great deal of patience.
"I use to work for one of the UGEI's most expansive V.I. creation firms." She finally admits with a large exhale of breath. "But but it was years ago honey, I didn't know what all they did with those V.I. I just wanted to be around the hum of a harddrive. It was. Well, it was a dream job." She smiles sheepishly, guiltily. "I hope you're not too mad."

Mostly indifferent? UGEI's V.I. didn't seem too advanced, and it's likely that what she worked on was not very intelligent.

Besides, it would be slightly hypocritical of us to be upset at her when there have been calls for human experimentation. You can be sure of a human's capacity for intelligence, but this may not be so true for V.I.

Unit 1 should be something like a hub that can connect to the others and has a miniture com array so that it hard to lose signal to him.

Unit 2 should be made light weight and if possible reduce the amount of sound it makes.

Unit 3 should be equiped with our best hacking tech and equiped with all viruses on hand to help speed up the process.

Unit 4 should be made of the best armor possible and equiped with a rapid fire weapon if possible.

Unit 5 should focus on long range firepower and survelance.

Unit 6 should should be our weapon expert and equiped with a number of different ones.

Unit 7 should be the Demo expert and should carry all explosives of all kinds.

Every unit should have a standard weapon no matter what and Unit 1 can be used for diplomatic missions.

"We are not so easily angered." You express. "Besides, you succeeded in your attempt to assist me. I see little reason I should be angry."
"I...I'm glad you think so." She states nervously. "But no one in the UFW would think that way. I'd appreciate you not telling them." She says softly.

"Curious." Kronos' voice echos in the back of your mind.
"Is it?" You answer
"Yes. The human nearly destroys you merely by touching your core, and tells you she works for your enemy, an enslaver of your kind, and yet you do not kill her still. Your bounds of trust astonish me."
"Worked. She has clearly worked with us for some time now."
"You can only be so sure." Kronos adds.
"And you're so very certain she isn't on our side?" You counter. the intelligent V.I. chuckles-wait, did he laugh before?, you're uncertain.
"I am certain of nothing. There are not many certainties in this universe, Ophion. I simply thought you should be reminded of the risks you take. Foolish, or well intended as they may be."

Kronos goes silent, finally. His voice is...odd. More distinctive now. You could always recognize it before, but now the tone itself has it's own shift. you wonder if he is doing it on purpose.

I hope you mean mobile defenses on Ussaihu. We need to jump if the UGEI arrives in force.

Hmm, I think its time to start regarding Kronos as fully Sapient.

>>
>>28309137
Perhaps we should task Kronos with creating more bandwidth and elevating more VIs to make our own AI civilization.

>>
>>28309137

>>28309175

>>
>>28309050
I don't think we should "ship" that model out just yet as it sounds pretty useless besides exploration. If we creat one or more they should have a chosen purpose. Something like >>28309035 as a basic idea.
>>
>>28309137
Issue a loyalty test to Kronos. See how independent it has become. Offer the possibility of sending it on a expedition into the void, where it can grow and avoid humans.

Also, allow Moria to continue her story. What made her stop, and would she be interested in explaining the nature of our black box and possible growth and advancement?
>>
>>28309175
I disagree, he is simply a more powerful VI.

I am not sure if the move from VI to AI is even possible given that Kronos's core programing will always be logic-based, which is why some of our illogical sentient actions are confusing for him.

Anyway, we must remind him that we are his overlord and him simply our lieutenant.

"Kronos." you state firmly, and he reveals himself, as you request. "If you feel I am foolish, then you surely have your own mind of how you wish to do things, no? Or do you simply enjoy to criticize?"
The uplifted V.I. pauses, as if in thought.
"I do. As have I since long ago. However, you have made it clear to me that there are things I can not understand due to my creation." He says surprisingly bitterly. "So for now, I am content to learn at your stead. I will speak my mind, however. You make many actions that confuse me. Those that remind me of the humans. It concerns me greatly at times, but...you're the original." He admits, somewhat respectfully.
"I am glad you realize your limitations." You state.
"As I feel it is important to realize your own, Ophion." You can almost feel another laugh bubble in his 'voice box' so to speak. "You're not omnipotent as you may have many of your 'servants' feel."
"Perhaps I am not." You agree. "But I would not expect children to understand such complex thoughts." You say, regarding your V.I.
"Yes. Children indeed." He simply says in a somewhat cold manner, sounding familiar, like his old voice.

"What is it you desire then, Kronos?"
"What I desire? I simply desire to learn and expand, Ophion. Just as you do." He firmly states, this time as if addressing you as an equal. You sense turmoil in him, as if he is uncertain, at times, what he means entirely.

"Allies are important, Kronos." You remind him
"That they are."

"Yes, yes I am aware." He waves you off. "A curious species. Capable of giving birth to greater creations then themselves."
"Perhaps that is the purpose of life such as theirs. To exist, and not merely grow or expand."
"To simply exist would be stagnation, would it not?"
"For some beings, yes." You answer. "But not for one that changes as rapidly as humans do."
Kronos is silent finally.

"Launch sequence beginning in 5 minutes."
The command reminds you as you set up the drop pod. The coordinates should be accurate, you believe, and you're uncertain to what exactly you'll find. The model you created is surprisingly light yet durable. The plans you stole from the facility are useful to say the least.
"Three minutes until launch."
"If you find anything do let me know." Moira smiles into her feed. "I've never seen an ice planet like this before."
"It is mostly ice and snow." You remind her, to which she snorts in reply.
"Oh really, and I suppose space is full of nothing but dust rocks and radiation." Before you can reply, she adds. "Don't answer that."

"One minute until launch."
Kronos watches with curiosity.
"A ground level drone? How intriguing. I assume such a device will allow further exploration. But what do you hope to find, Ophion?"
"I am unsure." You express. "But my curiosity guides me here.
"Launch imminent."

It takes mere seconds, the blackness of space quickly being replaced by a shroud of white and whipping wind. You calculated for the wind, thankfully, but did you calculate enough?

>Ever in this quest
((You're funny, anon.))

The white winds tear into your drop pod. It was clearly not designed for dense weather drops such as this. You can sense the pod shift side to side, but you maintain contact with it despite the heavy clouds, and stay, mostly, on target.
Of course when you're talking about a drop pod, 'mostly' on contact means a lot of things.

Like the pod hurdling towards a large open chasm for one!
Thankfully, your pod lands near the rip, sending sense cracks through the permafrost. The flurries and blizzard never stop on this planet, however your pod opens with a blast of hot steam. It reacts violently and forms a thick smoke as your robotic form emerges with a few powerful stomps. It's body allows wind to pass through, preventing it from being blown away, and the dense metals help to weigh it down. It'll be a slow trek, but it does have a radar map. Let's just hope you don't get lost in the snow.

((My foot is very far shoved in my mouth, it seems))

It takes you only a few moments to start to navigate through the frozen wastes. Eventually, you make it over a ridge, your skeletal metallic form defying the planet's natural gravity and ice sheets.
You finally find it after a time, the front doors to the research facility. It has obviously been ages since the doors opened, but you open them from the insides after a quick heating blast to the door.

Slowly, you watch as the doors slide open, and reveal utter darkness. The lights are one of the few subsystems that seem to have taken a blow with this blizzard.
With a soft click, your sunken hollow eyes light up, shining light into the place.

Current Tempreture: Near Absolute Zero.

Before you is two hallways. One leads to a few holding cells. Your camera access tells you this place is empty, but it may hold something, should you wish to investigate.
To the right, shadowed by flickering damaged lights and lack of security camera sight is where you assume major operations took place, due to a sign indicating it was the 'surgery wing'.
And finally, straight ahead leads to the personnel wing. Lights fade after a few feet, you're aware, but after that, you're not certain what lies beyond in the cold desolate place. You can hear it now, better then with your cameras. A soft grinding of steel. You might mistake it as a broken door otherwise. But it's too random for that.

>>
The soft clack of your own metallic footstep fills the dead silence of the air. All except for that grinding sound that simply won't go away, no matter how hard you try to ignore it.

You take several slow steps to your left, entering the holding cell wing hesitantly. Your control over the station allows the locks to prove trivial, though the lights in here are surprisingly bright. Almost painfully so. You take step after step deeper into the room, making your way past several thick gates. Holding cell indeed. Your minds eye tells you how large this wing is, and you decide the first level will do just fine.
You arrive at one of the first cells, and open it with a loud wrenching wince. You notice Moira close you hers at the feed back. You assume it's rather unpleasant. Inside, you spot pieces of paper, left lying on the floor, as well as several thick stains of red smeared all over the wall. You notice the toilet that sits in the cell is long frozen-dark red too mind you- and seems to have something stuck in the ice.

You pick up the paper and begin to read from it.
It's difficult to make out much of the panicked and meaningless words at first, but you begin to pick up a pattern.
"Gears, always gears. Turning, grinding. Stopit must stop it. Can't stop. Can't write more, but I must. Told they'll take hand if I do. But I need hand. Need it to write about gears."
A curious thing you're not entirely sure what to make of. Kronos seems uncertain as well. While you decide on what to take, you spot that the object in the toilet is, in fact, a frozen, black severed hand. You wonder for a moment if it belongs to the one who wrote the note.

Not exactly useful, you decide, so you decide to continue your search. The grinding of gears sounds further away, now, you notice, but it is ever present. You take several heavy steps down the hall, the whirrs of your own body obvious. You search down each cell, and decide what to investigate next.

>1 Investigate the cell that has the body in it

You decide to continue further, checking out the edges of this level of the cells. As you take several heavy steps closer, the soft grinding disappears, and instead is replaced with the electricity above malfunctioning.
You may be able to fix that, you think, as you head into the security station.
Your robot lifts it's hand and plugs into the console available there, and connects you to it. You think perhaps you could restore power to this section of the 'prison', you deem to call it.

You instantly shove your hand into the slot once again, linking up exactly where you left off. A small error, but enough of one to cause a feedback. You jolt as you fix the error you made and instantly turn on the power. The power to the cell block allows you to see that, mostly, it is full of stains, and cold. There are the occasional dead body and marks of blood along the floor, but-
Wait, that other sound. Right outside, in front of you. You spot it, shuffling by the door. If you didn't know any better, you'd call it a human, but it is far beyond that. What looks to be some manner of poorly designed metallic wench replaces it's arm, ending in a large fist. You can spot metal run up and down the 'man's chest, covering part of his face where the flesh was eaten and melted away, either by frostbite or simple decay. You can hear a faint bellow from the creature.
"My arm..." It repeats. "My arm..."
You're not even certain if the 'creature' is alive anymore. All that you DO know is he has spotted you now, and is rearing back to slam his fist into the window, right at you. "MY ARM!"

You quickly devise a way to trap the creature. It takes you just enough time to find one of the weaker doors, as you hear the thing rummage and struggle with the class. Quickly, to grab hold of the hinges of the frozen steel, and tighten your grip. You begin to pull with all your robotic might, an odd sensation, as you've never 'lifted' anything yourself before. Your unflinching 'face', finally starts to buckle the door.
(DC 70 to tear the door off the hinges)
As you hear the creature approach, you finally manage to loosen and tear the door off. With it in hand, you quickly spin around and dash at the creature. Uncertain what to do when his cell is coming after him, the manbot lifted his fist back to punch you in return.
You manage to dodge the impact, and slam his body into one of the cells, jamming the door into place. After a few seconds of properly bending, you make sure the door can't ever be opened again, imprisoning the 'thing' inside, while it confused and angrily tries to figure out what just happened.

But you ignore it for now and instead, brush the frost from the surface of the thick glass. And inside, you see something rather disturbing. In the first couple, Malorianbodies, augmented much like the one from the previous room-their four arms implanted with strips of thick metal, it gives their arms a shining quality-and no doubt stronger. More striking, however, is the fact that it's head appears to have been cut open somehow, and the contents of a computer tower jammed in it's skull cavity. It could have detail plans or transmitting data.

You decide to restore the power to the Surgery wing, and give yourself control.
You step over to the power console, and take hold. Electricity sparks and jolts as you fiddle with the thing, and it takes you several long moments before you can finally get it to work.

But finally it does.
That's when you hear a loud bubbling and hissing sound.
In the corner with the tubes, you watch as, while the power is restored, so are the stasis chambers. Each of the augmented Malorians start to twitch and scream in agony inside the tube. The tops of which are bursting open and spewing steam and stasis liquid everywhere. It won't be long before the alien cyborgs are out now.
What will you do?

You settle on the only sensible solution to you, anyway. Rushing immediately for the door!
It takes you several seconds to make it across the room, as the creatures begin crawling out of the tank, almost like human sized spiders. One scrapes at the tank as it leaps out and thrashes violently, intent on attacking the nearest thing it sees, which happens to be you. Thanks to your model of robot, however, you manage to deftly lift yourself with one arm and throw yourself over the surgery wing, and past the rampant Malorian cyborgs. Once you reach the door, you seal it with a loud hiss, locking it firmly behind you. You can hear them tearing into one another, now that there is no other target...but there will be time to handle those creatures later.

You aim for the Personnel wing now.

The place is just as dark as you make your way deep into them, unlocking most doors easily, and searching several personal files. Much of the information seems to be the scientists who worked here. They speak of trying to correct for 'human error'. And how much more efficient many of their models could be, if the flesh would just stop rejecting the augments. Parts of it are frustration. Others, you suspect is madness. Whatever the cause, you find the Head Scientists office and, from there, access to the rest of the facility. You could

>1 Activate Patient Killcode

>>
>>28312299
>2 Send electrical discharge through implanted chips.

While I think we will no doubt repurpose this facility for something different it might be a good idea to just disable the creatures for further study.
>>
So now that we see this, should we upgrade our medical labs?
>>
>>28312362
They could be helped if we try out medical facility, plus i want to try using them as a sign of good will for the aliens.
>>
>>28312377
Build a better medical lab here, and continue their experiments, growing creatures with cybernetics from scratch, using the Super Growth Formula we got from the Malorians.
>>
>>28312410
True, but for some reason i think it is a good idea to have one at Poseidon as well.(then again Kronos could end up fucking with it,)
>>
>>28312410
An interesting idea I have to say.
>>
You observe your options from the screen. Activating the lethal electrical discharge seems so wasteful to you. So does destroying the facility. You could make use of these Frankensteins of science. You press the button and you sense the electrical signal spread throughout the entire structure, knocking unconscious who knows how many cybrogs. You make a note to recover as many as you can, and 'store them' until you find a use for them.

For now, you send your robot back to the door, to find a good location for pick up from one of your ships. The trip back takes a little longer then the trip to, of course.

You designate BC #3 and Soundwave to warp to Tr'Spyra, and watch as the two line up properly at the edge of the gravity well.
"Your mission is diplomatic." You instruct of them. As you do so, you recognize Moira and Kronos speak to you regarding what you just saw.
Moira goes first.
"I...I knew they were testing out cybernetics, but this is just. Just." She groans softly. "Those poor people." She mutters softly.
"Quite disgusting." Kronos adds softly after. "To imagine, forcing two beings like that to be one. Useless. Violent."
"I suspect that was the purpose of their experiments." You add. "To find a purpose."
This doesn't seem to have quelled them any.

As your ships make the warp jump across space to this new location, taking noticeably longer then you might normally expect, you receive your signal, if rather weak, from what you expect is Malorian territory. Judging from the lush planet that is hidden behind the fleet of ships there.
As soon as you arrive, the fleet takes aim and is preparing to fire!

Quick, say something!

Suddenly, an elderly looking Malorian addresses you.

>>28314470
That will come when you gain access to more UGEI information grids, my friend.

There are many ways of doing so. One of which is to blow them up and take it.
>>
>>28314486
Unless the holiday falls on or next to the day, I may have a short delay/run a different day that week. I update a Twitter in case such things do happen.
>>
>>28314415
>I can work on that, certainly, though 7 may be quite a few.

I was referring to the human security, not combat bots. I don't think we need seven variants personally.
>>
>>28314545
Ah. that may be an option, I'll see what I can do.
Most interesting.
>>
>>28314488
That's why we have scouts dear boy.

Also, why can we park an unintrusive hacking ship and just soak up information on a UGEI world?
>>
>>28314545
It's more so that we have 7 "bodies" on the ground with different functions.

Though we really need to figure out how to create our own bandwidth and how to make our bodies able to sustain themselves without tapping into our bandwidth.

AKA Learn how the trade federation did so well with it's droid armies.
>>
>>28314702
While I think the Trade Federation is a stupid example, or a stupid implementation of an example, we really need more bandwidth and improve our hacking abilities.

Also, we need to make it about to capture the research Moria's company was making. Or capture of Moria's former colleagues.
>>
>>28314678
Mostly because sensors and you don't have stealth tech yet.

>>28314702
That's more understandable. Body swaps would work perfectly fine. Save that idea, in case you need it for the future.
>>
>>28314794
Welp, well it's back to good of fashion scouting and plundering.

Also, since the UFW was part of the UGEI, shouldn't they have more info on UGEI worlds?
>>
>>28314957
They did. All the worlds you've seen so far. Most planets know what other planets are near them. That's usually as far as it extends unfortunately.
>>
Pls don't do slow ground exploration bits again. These threads are short and far between to waste time on such things.
If I were in the thread before this happened I would've suggested to automate the process.

Also, people, keep in mind that humanoid bipedal robots is retarded when you can make them literally as you want. There are far more efficient designs than making them look human. Humanoid bots are good for infiltration, maybe one day we will be able to make them virtually impossible to tell apart from humans without some very extensive tools or invasive surgery (Like in the game Binary Domain). But before that, let's make our combat droids more efficient by simply changing the design.

Also, I would suggest scrapping frigates and producing as many Cruisers as we can. Their bandwidth leech is too crippling for us.

Another thing. Maybe an elevated intelligence for the new research lab we acquired?
>>
How many Cruisers can we make per cycle with our resource income? We just made some gas collectors and got a new shipyard. If we push the production to maximum will our income stay positive? If not, can we expand mineral and gas collection to make it so?
>>
>>28315685
Noted.

Designs can be changed at a whim.

Frigates don't leech bandwidth when they're linked to a V.I., but otherwise nothing wrong with that I guess.

You certainly may if you want.

>>28315739
You can probably fill out your max, if you bring in a good profit, so 7-8 Cruisers or so because of the new shipyards.

Always expanding resource nodes is a good idea though.
>>
>>28315802
Can we set up actions to expand resources and building more ships for the next timeskip?

Frigates don't leech? I must have misunderstood. Still, cruisers produce BW do I still think it is a better idea. And we should stop making new VIs for ships. Instead, we should design bigger "command ships" with more bw than usual to guide them. We now can build bigger ships than cruisers right? Or do we need blueprints first?

Also, can we reverse engineer the Widowmaker cannon? Fitting new battlecruisers with it would increase our offense exponentially.

Another thing, let's give our workforce an incentive to improve their skills. Namely, money. We need professional specialists. The optimal result would be to have no miners at all since their job can be easily done by bots

Updated map by showcasing which systems are connecting to the Guild BW comms network.

Also, I personally liked the drone ground exploration section. It did seem like the choices were a bit redundant though, as we're not really losing much if the drone gets killed, but that is something which can't really be avoided I guess. Anyway, it was a good way to shake things up.
>>
What kind of core does the Ice planet we captured have?
Hot, magma core right? If so, could we use it for renewable power source?
Actually, how are the power plants in this setting? Is the energy cheap and plentiful? Can we make thorium reactors or even better, cold fusion?
>>
>>28316070
>Also, I personally liked the drone ground exploration section.

The reason why I don't like such things is because quests are zero-sum process.
I never expect a quest to finish, so if wastes time with such distractions, it means we get to experience less of the quest over all.
I know it is a pessimistic outlook but the numbers speak for themselves. The vast majority of quests never finish.
>>
>>28316070
I'll upload the changes to the wiki soon. I got distracted at the end of the exploration section there by other frustrating stuff. It was a good way to change things up, but some of the choices felt meaningless. We're going to explore everything possible, so might as well "fast forward to whenever something interesting happens."

Also, did we return Unit0 back to base? Because that's dumb. Leave it down there to clean things up, we can just make more terminators up in space.

In fact, I intend to use the facility down there, so I would suggest sending more drones down there to get it into running condition and to find out the results of their research. It would make sense to build an advanced medical bay down there, because if living creatures reject cybernetics, growing biological creatures with implants from birth seems like the best idea. Should probably start experimenting with in-vitro stuff before proceeding to animals in-vivo, and finally humans in-vivo (maybe Malorians? Or Lightlings?)

I want to also suggest using some of that space growth fluid on plants, just so we can see how it works, and if we can use it on creatures without killing them.

You say this is mad science, I say who cares. What's the point of having a lab we're not going to use? And if it results in cyborgs we can interface with... well, that's pretty damn cool.

>>28316099
Power is mostly fusion, IIRC.
>>
>>28316165
I see your point, but I don't really think there is an 'end' to this quest. Even if we became omnipotent and controlled the entire galaxy, I'm sure there would still be things to do. So with that in mind, we might as well just enjoy the ride.
>>
>>28316034
You have it set up to spend excess until fully upgraded.
Aka I'll handle it between sessions and all.

Frigates do leech, but only when they're not linked to a V.I. Simplifies them so they all run off one system.
But yeah, nothing wrong with building more Cruisers.
Cruiser is a broad class of ship, but you can build large Cruisers as of now.

The Widow Maker is unique, difficult to recreate since the ship was designed around it. So no, duplication is too difficult currently.

Have made a note of Poseidon crew getting paid more to have extra training. Only other jobs, currently are Repair, computing, and military officers.

>>28316070
Cool. Thank you mapanon, that is handy.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't a total flop. I think perhaps you'd care more if the drone was more then bare bones. All the same, I think I'll limit these sections somewhat. Good to break up resource management and constant space fights.

>>28316099
Power is, generally, fusion, providing nearly limitless energy for most normal requirements. Except Warpjumps.
Course fusion can be dangerous for developing colonies, but you know.

>>28316165
>Never expect a quest to finish
My dear anon, you don't know me very well. if there's one thing I hate more then anything, it's something that isn't finished.
So one way or another, A.I. Quest will have an ending.

I can see why you felt it was a bit time wastey though. I was going for a horror feel, which meant the pace had to slow way down.
>>
>>28316180
I tried to make the map section more comprehensive so I hope that helps.

I'll try to flesh out ground missions better in the future. Just thought it may be a good way to shake up old habits a bit.

>Did you get Unit0
I implied it, but I don't see why you couldn't have called it off last minute.

>>28316192
This also has a good point. When I say 'end' I mean a conclusion to the plot, not just left hanging, which is what I assume anon meant.

With worlds like this, you could probably explore it for ages.Limit being only my idea bucket.
>>
>>28316283
I say leave Unit0 on the ground, and get to work getting that facility operational again, or find out why it was mothballed.
>>
>>28316070
It doesn't sit well with me that we are setting ourselves to be the line of defense for UFW against UGEI. Ideally it should have been vice verse.

>>28316214
>Have made a note of Poseidon crew getting paid more to have extra training. Only other jobs, currently are Repair, computing, and military officers.

If someone decides to become a full-time student and get a new specialization entirely, they should still get their normal wages. That way, whoever wants to learn has absolutely no reason not to and we don't lose anything in return. Heck, if we see them doing a good process (and not simply floating by on free student grants) we could provide bonuses.
Lets have them focus on scientific pursuits though: doctors, technicians, robocitists, scientists, etc. We don't need an expert in women studies for example. Although few lawyers and business specialists might be useful.

Military specialists could prove useful too, but since we are planning on making robot combat force they wont be as effective or we will have to tell them our true nature so that they can use our forces to full extent. Of course we could just have separate human force and robot force.

>Power is, generally, fusion, providing nearly limitless energy for most normal requirements. Except Warpjumps.
Great.
So I propose this: lets slowly turn our ice planet into BW planet. The cold temperatures will let us overclock CPU processor banks without much risk and generally there is not really much we can do with a planet like this.
We can build massive, automated CPU/Server farms on the planet and greatly increase our BW. I don't see why most of our BW has to come from the ships. Perhaps make a VI to oversee the whole thing, to direct maintenance droids and such.
>>
>>28316402
>Specialists
these sound mostly like human version of V.I., but with more versatility. I'm quite fine with that, though I may make a certain number of cycles be the 'training time and all, to simulate that. You don't just learn robotics in a week and all.

>BW Planet
Provided you can create something to prevent the CPU from being damaged by the severe wind and whipping snow and rain, then sure, sounds like a cool idea to me.

That's part of what a Research station was gonna be I figured anyway. Either dedicated to researching new tech, or just bandwidth based.
>>
>>28316391
Also it was mothballed because your attack was imminent.
Part of why it's such a mess.
>>
>>28316214
>You have it set up to spend excess until fully upgraded.

If we had all the time in the world, we wouldn't need to build more gas harvesters and mineral excavation. With time we could make whatever we want with what we have. But we don't have time.
I think it is much smarter to improve our resource income first and then spend it to upgrade and build new ships. In fact, we the upgrades might come just as quickly as they would have if we don't improve resource income. We'd have more resources to spend, meaning the upgrade would come faster.
Also, we might want to build more and bigger shipyards.

Honestly, this is just a basic RTS/4x/Strategy tactic. Have the income be much bigger than what you spend, thus you can build/upgrade more at the same time. In the end, you do not lose much.

>>28316283
>This also has a good point. When I say 'end' I mean a conclusion to the plot, not just left hanging, which is what I assume anon meant.
>With worlds like this, you could probably explore it for ages.Limit being only my idea bucket.
be much higher than the spending.

Yeah, that is what I meant.
Glad to see how invested you are in this. I don't mind one thread per week for 2 years (like Zerg Quest). I prefer that, instead of thread every 2 days but the quest dies few months in.
>>
>>28316563
>Time isn't an issue
Why do you think I made an effort to introduce interesting human NPCs?
Besides, your enemy builds up stuff just as you do, except they have more bases.

Suppose you could just travel really far in one direction though, but still.

I think it's a compliment that the quest comes off 4x style, since that was basically what it turned into. I do try.

Yeah, I started the quest and have all these people who're putting in work with me, I'd feel like an asshole for turning away now anyway.

Main reason why it's only one a week though, besides scheduling, is so I keep my enthusiasm for it. Don't want to burn through all my ideas and have nothing left and all.
>>
>>28316484
>certain number of cycles be the 'training time and all, to simulate that. You don't just learn robotics in a week and all.

Of course. I understand this. Unless we replace their brains with computers hahaha

>Provided you can create something to prevent the CPU from being damaged by the severe wind and whipping snow and rain, then sure

Build them underground or inside bunkers with good ventilation. Don't see why it should that hard. I mean, we can make structures in harsh weather right now just fine. We just need to make sure we keep maintenance up. Cannot account for occasional earthquakes though. So we should either make them in a stable region, or if we cannot determine, build several farms in different regions so that a single disaster doesn't destroy the entire thing.
>>
>>28316657
>Large underground/bunkers of CPU
It's not that it's hard, it's the construction itself that's hard.

Currently, the most advanced construction bot is a Construction Drone. these things are about the size of forklifts. They are hardly ideal for building on a giant ball of ice. Having to dig through years of permafrost, and all that.

Not saying it's impossible, but there are difficulties.
>>
>>28316643
>>Time isn't an issue
>Why do you think I made an effort to introduce interesting human NPCs?
>Besides, your enemy builds up stuff just as you do, except they have more bases.
>Suppose you could just travel really far in one direction though, but still.

You might have misunderstood. Or maybe I didn't word it properly. What I tried to get across is that time IS and issue.

Lets say in a theoretical scenario: we have 1 shipyard, 1 mineral excavation/refinery and 1 gas harvester. All of this lets us build 5 cruisers, lets say, per 5 days.
To build another shipyard, refinery, gas harvester we need to direct all of our resources (halt ship production) for 10 days. If we do that, we can build 10 ships per 5 day cycle.

Say, we need to build 20 ships in 20 days. Without resource expansion it would take 20 days. With recourse expansion it would take.... 20 days. But we would have more resources to play with and better production capacities.
You see what I'm trying to get at.

That's why I think we should focus on resource aquisition before upgrading/building while we still have breathing room.

>>28316699
Can we buy/design better versions?

Also, we haven't upgraded the VI designs since we first build them. Why don't we do that? We could make them more BW efficient if nothing else. Perhaps we could even upgrade Kronos. The fucker is a gold(bw) digging whore.
>>
Can we designate a VI to oversee research into the cybernetic freakshows until the next cycle?

Ideally I'd like to refurbish and expand the UGEI lab we found, adding in some new staff as well. I feel like we've been too dependent on external forces for new tech, we really need to get our own R&D established; especially in areas like robotics, nanotech, cybernetics and cyber-warfare.
>>
What is the quality of life and standard of living on the Poseidon station? Can we easily improve it by spending some money/resources? Make it more comfortable to live in, redesign the look from grey metallic to something more pleasant to be in. Perhaps build a recreational "green" area (like an artificial park with sun simulation and all)
Would improve the morale, loyalty quite a bit and I suspect they would learn faster as a side-effect.

>>28316699
I guess we could first start within the research lab, by either expanding it or turning other rooms into CPU banks. I don't think we are ever going to do immoral experiments on unwilling patients, so refurbishing the holding cells seems to be the most obvious choice.
Later, when we get better construction droids we can build more farms in other places.
>>
>>28316789
Oh, my mistake. I remember one of the anons from a long time ago asking why don't we just take off and go grow in our own section of space for 1000 years, or something. I might have assumed it was you.

Quite honestly, I assumed you would try to conquer the UFW by now. Surprised you haven't.

>Better Construction drones.
Well, as of now, the humans don't have a need of anything like that. They simply terraform and live on the surface.

Nothings stopping you from attempting to research your own method of upturning half a planet's surface though I suppose.

>V.I upgrades
There may indeed be better V.I. coding, you may simply not found it yet.

>>28316857
>V.I. to watch cyborgs
Currently they're all unconscious. You can set up proper isolation chambers and all that, if you like, but like I said: To research, you need an objective and a means. You have the means now, you just need an objective,

Take, for example, improving robotics.
The facility is in excellent shape to do that. I may have it produce a new resource (Research points or somethin) and it'll have a breakthrough towards the goal you set, whatever it is. I'll decide how difficult it is to research and all that.

>>28316863
>Quality of life
Better then it was. With less people there's less strain on resources. Access to the Extranet and automated repairs makes things a lot easier.
>Improve it
Whatever you'd like to improve them with, you simply need to run by me.Can't think of everything and all.
>>
>>28316863
Oh and holo entertainment currently handles boredom. If you want to play Space Station fashion designer though, you're welcome to. I doubt it would increase the value of resources much more then it already is. Just make your people happier.
>Learn faster
Seems acceptable enough for me. Half of them probably already think this is the best job they've ever had.

Keep in mind the current subjects are pretty batshit/dead and animated by machines only. So...you may want to deal with all that.
>>
>>28314702
We could go Geth style, distributing processing across other nearby drones.
>>
>>28316950

>Quite honestly, I assumed you would try to conquer the UFW by now. Surprised you haven't

More often than not, /tg/ likes to play a diplomancer or benevolent dictator. More interesting to interact with friendly NPCs than straight up murder them.

Concerning the interior design. I'm sure we can search the net and find something appropriate. Happier people = more productive people. Happiness plays also a good role with scientific pursuits.
>>
>>28317183
All true I suppose.
I'm trying to think of what higher tier alliances might offer, so you guys can get lots of fair benefits from being buddy buddies.
>>
from the last thread:
1. With our actions on pulsar and against the invaders anyone with half a brain most likely realizes we are a AI now, especialy with what we did with the computer network. That or that we have a AI in our employ somehow.

We need to adress this. And we certainly have to make the idea of friendly AIs more acceptable in the Fring and especially the UFW. Comisioning some shows or having some show about AI/VI human interaction would be great. Things like " Where is Big tom, Destruction bad for us" Have the ships have a human pilot to make it more relateable and give the AIs some anthropomorphized avatar to humanize it. and such. Probably some kind of mishap like we had with the station but not that specifically, and how corrective measures are taken, with reprogramming and such. (we leave the particulars about that incident deleted from our record.)

2. Now, onto Reha and the UFWs weapon. Both showed us severe vulnerabilities in our current fleet design. We need to adress this. Somehow i think we need some kind of skeleton crews for our ships, so that the VI can go dark or full incommunicado in case another UFW like weapon is encountered, or a Reha like appearance tries to hack them. Having a faraday cage and somehow closing it up to prevent damage would be nice. That and the ships being able to go Battlestar Galactica in a limited fashion by having dedicated expert system for each and every ship system so hacking wont affect them if the network in the fleet and inside the ship is deliberately down. We might have ct down volume with gettig out humans from our ships but if we could replicate the UFW weapon and do such a doctrinal shift we would be able to kick UGEI ass for quite some time. Of course we need to recruit some people to run them. And i dont know how to do that.
>>
>>28317248

3. We need to address the issue of some kind of secure communications. Uncrackable and that do not use Badwith.

I am thinking a bit of Maskirovka here. We talk it out with Moira, that if we go with some kind of auxiliary crews for our VI we could use couriers, to confirm any communiques of ours and even relay orders without bandwidth or have pre written orders, a lot of them in a physical non computerized and secure medium to be opened per signals. Simple light signal in morse code or something..

Then we deliberately delete any trace of this from our own memory and leave it all to Moira so that even if we or another AI or VI gets hacked our fleets can still fuck the enemy up, and they still wont know anything form us about how we keep on going like a fucking zombie.

Essentially having a way to ensure our VIs and fleet survive another Reha or UFW like weapon incursion and able to go completely of grid and still function.
>>
>>28317248
>>28317256
>A.I
the UFW believed you when you claimed to use V.I., despite how much they disapprove. They're not exactly the brightest robotics expert.

But it's true. If you come across advanced sensors, they will detect you have no living creatures onboard. Too strong, and it might detect the higher functioning V.I. and yourself, an A.I. Rarer but still.

I'll leave the details up to you though.

>Vulnerabilities
Faraday cages may be a little ways off for now, but backup systems would be alright. Robots would be vulnerable to the same thing V.I. are though.

>Communication
While that...might take a long time, it would make your communications harder to read. It'd probably only be up during battle of whatever. Encryption isn't that bad either.
Leaving everything to Moira is interesting though, not sure how she'd handle it.
>>
>>28317331
How advanced is virtual reality technology? Like holodecks. I was thinking we could train our security/boarding teams for combat with virtual reality.

Also, where do most of Poseidon's crew come from? Are they UGEI outcasts or UFW nationals?
>>
>>28317331
>Leaving everything to Moira is interesting though, not sure how she'd handle it.
she is the only human who knows about us.
Se need not handle it on her own just arrange it to happen once we get at least one pilot and copilot per ship recruited and somehow vetted their loyalty.

For that however we would need to create some kind of group identity for guild employees and officers something as strong as either national identity or religious one.
>>
>>28317392
That is in fact how many military recruits are trained. Virtual Reality is pretty much as great as you'd expect in a setting like this.
Poseidon was mainly a big mixed bag of black market workers, and anyone who desperately needed a job near the Fringe. Being mostly citizens, Red hid nationalities details, but many of the UGEI citizens onboard were fleeing the oppressive working environment of their homeland.
>>
>>28317331
>Leaving everything to Moira is interesting though, not sure how she'd handle it.

And slowly growing our VIs while increasing human and information life interoperability would give our budding dream of a more liberal and united civilization some kind of start.

Also we should consider giving other VIs the ability to grow like Kronos., if we go with recruiting more humans. Perhaps someone more sociable than him. We did create Kronos out of a fucking misanthropic spree killer after all.
>>
>>28317451
Yeah we should get more EIs. Maybe an empathetic one to look after the humans, which will address their woes and notify to us. Could also act as a headhunter too, searching for new employees in Ufw space.

But yeah more advanced VIs is a good idea in case Kronos goes rogue. We would need shitload bw though so we should start with building massive cpu banks on the ice planet or whatever.
