A sudden flash of white before your closed eyes pulls you from the realm of uneasy sleep. You open your eyes to find yourself facing your computer screen, showing a white 404 error web page after a failed refresh. You had fallen asleep in front of your computer again, the irregularity of your sleeping schedule leaving you with a slight headache.

You yawn and try to knock some sense into your still half-asleep sensory deprived brain. You take a look around your room; piles of dirty clothes scatter at random location here and there, an amount of trash bags near the unused door, a lingering smell of old and dust sticking to everything, and nothing but the dim light of your multi-monitor computer station to reveal this state to anyone who might dare enter. Downstairs you can hear your family rummaging about, and the scent of food can be slightly smelled over the stench of your room. You look at the clock on computer at sees it's 6:32PM, so dinner would most likely be served soon.

As the last amount of slumber leaves your brain, you regain your senses. Now, who are you again?

Reality hits you like an ice cold sledgehammer. You're Tammy Konstantin, an 18yo high school drop out. For the last two years you've spent almost every day in your room, only leaving to eat, use the toilet, or the irregular emergency. In these last two years, you've slowly degraded into a mess of social awkwardness and disillusioned images of reality. You can't remember the last time you had a coherent conversation.

You feel your stomach grumble, likely because of the increasing odour of food emanating from behind the threatening piece of wood that separates your sanctuary from the wilderness. Wiping away saliva from the side of your mouth, you reach for the nearest bottle of liquid, takes a sip, and concludes that it's tame soda. The sudden sugar rush makes you stand up and stretch yourself.

The long stretch combined with the uneasy sleeping position makes your back crack and send a delightful surge of static through your body. With the following shiver, you dump back onto your ergonomic computer chair and find your left hand automatically reach for your inner thigh. In recent months, you've found that any nice feeling in your body gets directly linked to sexual stimuli, most likely because it's the most common, if not almost the only, form of stimuli you get.

As you guide your hand down your sweat pants to the warm and wet spot of eternal satisfaction, you use your right hand to find a certain directory on your computer. C:\Users\Tammy\My Documents\Private\Work\Shota. As picture after picture of cute, brown-skinned elf boys show up on your screen, you move your left hand fingers around faster and faster, touching and tickling all the usual spots discovered from many an experimental night. As you come upon one of your favorites images, a boy getting jacked off by a large-titted woman while he sucks on her breasts, you finally reach climax and spasm for a couple of deciseconds in your chair before letting out a slight moan and relaxing.

Withdrawing your hand from your sweat pants and seeing the gooey liquid spread across your fingers, you conclude it's about time to freshen up for the first time in 3 days. You stumble to your feet and make your way to the door leading to the 1st floor hallway, carefully avoiding tripping over any pile of clothes or garbage lingering on your floor in the process. With a slight tremble you open your door as silently as you can, making sure there's no one in the hallway as you make a sprint for the bathroom. As you dash across the hall, you can't help but getting the full extend of the delicious smell from downstairs. Smells like macaroni and cheese.

Reaching the bathroom and locking the door behind you, you have a look in the bath room mirror above the sink. Waist long, dirty blonde curls surrounding a pale, slim face with big, dark-blue eyes with bags almost as large as the eyes themselves underneath them. A tiny nose, and an equally tiny mouth to compliment it, you wouldn't be half bad looking if it weren't for the short, skeletal frame of a flat body that's the direct result of years of eating too little, and too much of the wrong stuff.

You remove your clothes and step in the shower, feeling the refreshing water rolling over your body and removing every trace of dust-caked sweat and grime that naturally forms from a solitary existence in a room that hasn't been cleaned in over a year. As you step out and start drying yourself, feeling a bit better than usually, you ponder what to do with the rest of your awake hours.

You slip into your stained sweatpants and holed, out washed anime t-shirt. After a quick ruffle of your hair, you slip silently out of the bathroom and make your way down the stairs, following the delicious odour. You're hoping that you mom as usual have prepared a plate of food for you and left it on the hall table near the front door. Seeing as this is not the case, you curse to yourself and peek into the dining room.

On the dinner table is standing a large cauldron of steaming hot macaroni and cheese. Around the table is your father, Bob, your mother, Alice, and your younger brother, Kasper, sitting, eating dinner and small talking like a normal, happy family. There is an empty seat with a plate and cutlery set at the table, obviously reserved for you. You think this very strange to yourself, since you haven't eaten dinner together with your family in over 6 months.

Your brother finally notices you and grimaces. Ever since you dropped out of the same high school he's currently a senior at, he's hated your guts. Your mom, a lovely, aloof housewife who's always worried about you, notice the face your brother made and turns around to look at you.
"Tammy, hun, I apologize for this sudden change, but we need to talk."

Your father, as usual, doesn't acknowledge your presence at all.

Oh shit. Time to think fast.

You turn your face towards the floor, your heart rate increasing tenfold for every step you take towards the dinner table. Your head is racing with thought pattern after thought pattern, all leading to the conclusion that this is bad. Very bad.

You pull out the chair across from your father and sit down, face still facing the floor. Your mom, sitting next to you, fills your plate with sticky cheese stuff and place it in front of you.
"Tammy, dear, your father and I have been talking. You know how we tried to be understanding after that incident that made you drop out, how we offered all our love and help to get you back on your feet. We thought time and love would heal you, but after two years this is clearly not the case. As much as this pains me to do, seeing you in your current condition, you leave us no choice. You need to either start school again, or at least get a job, otherwise we're throwing you out of the house. You're getting nowhere in life, and the way you live is too poisonous for you, and for us as a whole family."

You continue to stare into the mass of semi-liquid carbohydrates in front of you, letting the words of your saddened mother sink in as you gaze upon the changing mass. As your brain process the gravity of the situation you've just been put in, your eyes widen in shock and your mouth go agape. You raise your head slowly, and for the first time in a year meet the stern gaze of your father right in front of you. The sight of your face changes nothing in his expression of disappointment and disgust. Your brother is looking at you with a snarl on his face, and your mom raises her hand and puts it on your shoulder.

The feeling of human touch on your body culminates the shock, anger, and fear building up in your body, and you jump up from the table with a gasp. With a face of utter anxiety and breathing that gets slowly faster and faster, you grab the plate of mac'n'cheese in front of you and bolt to your room, locking the door behind you. You lean against the door, food in one hand and the other clinging onto, almost clawing, your face. What the hell do you do? This is not at all like your anime shows.

You steady your breathing, and slump into your chair in front of your computer. Placing the plate of soon lukewarm mac'n'cheese on the side, you open up your regular board and write out what just happened in the hope that someone will tell you what to do. (http://boards.4chan.org/r9k/res/9461827)

As you await the replies that are hopefully going to trickle in, you dig in to the macaroni. As usual, it tastes like a dream, your mother proving once again how lucky your dad is to have her. The food fills you up, bringing a flush to your face as you get warm from the inside. You gulp, slap yourself in the face, and force your thoughts together.

You haven't had a job since your were handing out papers as a 14yo. And you absolutely can't go back to that school, not after what happened. Hell, you can't even remember how you're supposed to act in public, so how are you going to accomplish any of this? In any case, you're going to experience some change whether you like it or not. And you're going to need some help from someone. Anyone.

The more you think about it, the more panic spreads through your body. Tears start to stream down your face as your body trembles, letting out slight sobs in the darkness. You hear a knock on your door, and the voice of your mother calling out to you. She's asking if you're all right.

You freeze up at the sound of your mother outside the door. Too much. It's all too much. You can't handle all this, not now, not this soon. After a minute she stops calling out your name, and you listen for her footsteps to disappear down the stairs until you allow yourself to breathe again.

Disaster averted, for now at least. You take a look at the forum thread, and see that it's devolved from proper advice into a height thread. Typical. Most people recommend taking a GED to get into university, but being completely unprepared for this change in lifestyle you sincerely doubt that you'd be able to complete such an exam. Your head is full of panicky thoughts, putting needless stress on your body like you haven't experienced in a long while. Before you know it, you find yourself overwhelmed by anger and sadness, and make your way to your bed where you drift into deep, dreamless sleep.

—

You awake the next morning feeling surprisingly refreshed. In those few seconds before reality hits you you were actually feeling kinda good. You leap out of bed simply because you can't sit still with what's going on at the moment, and you complete your usual morning ritual by placing yourself in front of your computer and turning it on, checking the usual sites to calm yourself.

You realize you need to do something. The question is what. You check the time, which turns out to be 08:55AM. Bob and Alice are at work right now, and Kasper is at school, so you have the house for yourself.

You make your way down the stairs to the abandoned lower deck of the house. In the kitchen you grab a ceramic bowl, some fruity loops, and go to the fridge to get the milk. As you open the fridge and grab it, you notice there's a note stuck to the milk carton.

"Tammy,
Sorry about yesterday, but it had to be done. You have one month to figure something out.
— Dad"

You drop the milk on the tile floor. This is the first communication you've had with your dad for as long as you remember. He was the first to give up on you, seeing that you didn't progress from the help you were offered. Him acknowledging you like this at this point must mean they're actually serious. You pick up the milk and dries up what was spilled onto the floor. You finish pouring your cereal, and go take a look outside through the kitchen window while eating your sugar bombs. It's a beautiful winter morning, the kind where there isn't a cloud in the sky and the sun is reflecting off the frost that is everywhere. You can see an old man across the street shovelling snow. It must've snowed during the night.

You finish your breakfast, and is filled with a sudden resolve. You head for the front door in long strides, and put your hand on the door knob. You can do it. You can take that life changing step. Or...

After spending the next half hour rocking back and forth in a fetal position under your bed cover, you decide you at least have to do something, no matter what, just to get things rolling. And the best place to start is most likely your room.

You get up from your bed and head for your blinded window. Attempting to unblind it results in a dust cloud forming from the barring that's kept nasty sunlight out for as long as you remember. After some fiddling with some strings, you manage to get sunlight to beam in and reveal the true status of your room. The sight is absolutely horrifying.

Trash and clothes are scattered all over the place, often mixed together in unrecognisable piles of filth and dust. Dust trolls lie in every nook and cranny, the walls are yellow from humidity and filth, and the air is filled with dust particles. Your bed and char is brown and stained from extreme use, and on the paths around the room between the piles of indistinguishable junk there's clear crust stains from unspecified liquids. You want to throw up, but you hold it in. Something inside you has awoken, however weak it might be, and at this moment you want to spend it on cleaning this mess. You go to the kitchen again and fetch a bucket, soap, sponges, dishcloths, trash bags and a vacuum cleaner from the hallway closet.

cont.
>>
>>28217779
Five horrendous hours and 8 filled trash bags later, your room is in a somewhat acceptable condition; there's no longer clothes everywhere, the trash is sorted and placed by the door for someone (not you) to move outside, and you've done the best you could with the stains. You grabbed some new sheets for the bed, and put the dirty clothes and sheets in the washing machine. Exhausted from more physical activity that you've done in what feels like decades, you make a quick lunch of PBJ sandwiches, and slump back into your usual position in front of your computer.

For some reason, despite the panic still lingering in your body, you feel good about what you've done. At least your room is nice now.

I think a lot of us can relate.
Well, what can we do for Tammy.
Shes introverted, socially awkward, and prefers being alone. She could do something to work from home, but her parents likely want her also getting out of the house.

I had a thought reading this. Nightshift Security. Try to get her in a cozy little room with a couple of tv screens and a radio. She's a good night owl, and if we can get some self-practice at interviewing she could net the job. With the added bonus of it likely selling well to her Father. He wants her to make something of herself, now she's been given the responsibility of Protecting a place. SHe'll be in little danger as we'll look for something Observe and report, nothing like armed security.

That? And it doesnt strictly need a high school diploma, depending on where you are and where you're applying. I know, because im one of them, soon. Going from food service to Mall security, not a huge step, but it's making me feel a hell of a lot better.

>>
>>28226921
~10 hours.

Got classes and karate. Monday is a busy day, so on the other week days I'll be able to update faster and stay up longer (hopefully).

I'm gonna see this through one way or another.
>>
>>28226958
Can you really call it NEET quest once Tammy gets a job or back into school? I hope that isn't the end if either of those goals are met.
>>
>>28226993
At least long enough to get past the crippling social problems.
>>
>>28226993
Of course. Have you ever tried re-entering society after prolonged isolation? It's fucking horrifying, and you're bound to fuck up everywhere. Not to speak anxiety, relapses, and situations where you honest to God don't know what to do.

This is going to be a long, painful process for Tammy seeing as we have a fucking concrete and steel wall of social ineptitude to conquer, not just some 'lol u tk her 2 da job?" kind of quest.
>>
>>28227036
Aw shit, OP.
Count me in for your wild ride.
>>
>>28227069
Honestly, I have so many ideas about where this quest could go. I mean, it's entirely up to you guys to decide where Tammy ends up, but I feel confident that between the choice of school or work I could at least conjure up 6 main paths (even more if you guys go completely bananas), all depending on the way you handle this first month. And that's all I'm gonna say about that for now.

The biggest challenge here is trying to combine the feelings and way of acting of an antisocial NEET (something I know personally), and the feelings and way of acting of a shy, teenage girl (something I don't know personally). And then put it into words.

I know I could be writing the next part instead of this, but I have to leave in 30 minutes so wouldn't be able to continue it.
>>
>>28227181
When did you get the idea of running a quest like this?

You swirl around on your chair, gazing upon the fresh state of your room. The combination of natural light streaming from your disbarred window and the lack of clutter makes it appear new, almost as if you've moved to a new place. A feeling of strange contendedness flows from the top of your neck down through your body, leaving an unfamiliar feeling that can only be described as job satisfaction. In a rare moment of self awareness, you realize you've gotten quite rank from all the work. You clothes are even more stained that usual, and you can actually smell yourself over the clean air of cleaning detergent left in your room. You decide it's probably best with a shower.

Before hitting the shower, you go and move a portion of clothes from the washer to the dryer. You notice the sun is halfway through it's descent to the horizon, coloring the clouds in a dark pink, a nice contrast to the icy blue sky of a winter evening. As you move from the laundry room to the shower, you glance at a wall clock. 04:10PM. Kasper and Alice would be home soon. Your father, Bob, works as an insurance agent in the city so he's usually home late due to long work hours and commute time.

You close the first floor bathroom door behind you, making sure it's locked tight before stripping down to your birthday suit. You take a look at yourself in the mirror. A slender, incredibly pale body, almost spotless, with a slight hints of hipbones and ribs showing where the skin is strung tight due to lack of muscle and body fat. A hint of curves can be seen, suggesting that good genes have gone into this waste of a young body. You let your fingers caress your collar bones, clearly feeling the bone structure underneath a thin cover of flesh.

cont.
>>
>>28229875
This is the first time since you locked yourself away that you've taken a good, long look at yourself, and you're having trouble comprehending how much you've change for the worse. You recall during your freshman year how you ran track and had a, what you thought at least, healthy body. And now it's been reduced to this broken, shadowy shell of your former self.

You feel a shiver in your body that evolves into a regular tremor. How could this happen? Two years have gone by just like that, and this is the result; a horrible, deranged creature in both mind and body that you find to be the current edition of yourself. You feel the same ball of lead forming in your chest, bringing you to your knees. Days blending together in your dark sanctuary of solitude had rendered you unable to perceive yourself, but this recent change in lifestyle have brought forth an otherwise slumbering side of yourself; perspective. You hate it, everything about it. You only feel it now, but you realize it's been like this ever since you started shutting yourself away from the world. You hate the way you look, hate the way you're unable to face yourself, hate the way how you've turned away every offer to help because of the fear of being hurt once more, but the thing you hate the most is the fact that you didn't do anything in the situation those two years ago. Anger and regret fills mind, clouds your vision, and you let out a long, loud howl, fueled by the accumulated frustration from the two years of your life you've wasted.

As the tears silently stops running down your pale, glass-like cheeks, you shiver again. You're ice cold, and your body is sore and exhausted from the cleaning and the unexpected release of pent up emotions. Curse this. Curse it all! Had your parents just let you be, you'd never had to deal with all this! You'd been perfectly content spending your time in front of your computer, becoming more and more an entity of the hivemind that is the internet.

cont.
>>
>>28229884
But now you're forced to deal with real life, your situation, and you even have to go out of your way to improve upon yourself. You're not ready for it, not yet. You still have unresolved matters from two years ago, and that makes everything about re-entering real life so much worse. You slowly rise to your feet, finding that gaining proper foothold proves to be more difficult than usual. You stumble your way into the shower cabin, turn on the cold water, and try to force your body to feel something else that the perpetual sadness that's been lying in your subconsciousness ever since that dinner talk yesterday. It doesn't work. You switch to regular slighty-above-body-temperature bath water, and complete the process of grime removal through heavy appliance of lye based oil dissolvent.

In the time after the soap has been washed from your body, you stand shifting your weight from one foot to the other, making sure the warm water hits all parts of your back. Empty thoughts enters your mind, and you blank out for a moment just feeling the heated stream of liquid putting delightful pressure on your sensitive upper back. When you return to reality, you find that your hand have drifted to the part of your shoulder where your mom touched you last night. Human touch, such a rare occurrence. You'd forgotten how warm and soft another person's hand feels. As you stroke your shoulder, trying to recall the pleasant sensation, you find your hand once again drifting towards your inner thigh. Unable to resist these unfamiliar feelings, you give in to your most primal urge and work your way towards satisfying release.

cont.
>>
>>28229895
Stepping out of the shower, you take one more look at your wet, miserable self. Your chest is flushed red from your shower escapades, and more pointy than usual due to the same. Letting your hands run from the top, down to your hips and over your bottom, you conclude that the presence of potential curves is there, so it's not all bad. You dry yourself up, making sure every curl on your your head is dry, then slip into your bathrobe.

Making your way from the bathroom to the laundry room, you pass by your brother's room. Soft chill-hop can be heard from in there, evidence that he's come home in the time you were in the shower. He's probably reading one of his fancy novels, you ponder to yourself. Reaching the bottom of the stairs reveal something surprising; every trash bag that you placed at the front door is gone. Kasper must've carried them outside. Letting a tiny smile form on your lips due to this act of unfamiliar kindness from your brother's side. You suddenly feel a bit better compared to the desolating sadness that's otherwise been occupying your current existence.

You go to the laundry room and find that the dryer is done. You've been in shower for longer than you expected. Heaving the fresh, clean clothes into a laundry basket, you take the opportunity to bury your face in the warm, soft cloth. It feels great on your flushed skin. You change the portions around, carry your fresh clothes to your room, and relish in the feeling of clean cloth on clean skin. You slump back into your computer chair and allow yourself to check your regular imageboards, and you join in the conversation for a little while.

cont.
>>
>>28229906
The release of pent up emotions and the fact that you actually got some things done for the first time in a long time leaves you slightly satisfied. Not happy, but satisfied. You definitely feel better than yesterday evening, though. Then reality hits you again, reminding you that you still have a long way to go. Less than a month to either find a school to attend or find a job, or find some way to convince your parents to let you stay a NEET. Whatever you do, you've at least shown a sign of good faith by cleaning up your bombed toilet of a room, and that should send a message to the rest of your family that you understand that change is nessecary.

There's still a couple of hours until your father comes home, but your mom should be home soon seeing as Kasper is lounging in his room. Question is, what do you do now?

>A. Play some vidya
>B. Look for job and school opportunities online
>C. Go talk to your brother
>D. Try on girly clothes now that they're clean
>E. Attempt to walk outside
>F. Other

I truly have no excuse for this wall of text. Got a bit carried away during a particular boring section of today's classes.
>>
>>28229914
Oh yeah, I'm back for a short time, so let's do this. I'll give you a bit longer this time to digest it all.
>>
>>28229914

>F

Take a piece of paper, write 'Thanks', and put it at Kasper's door.

After that, A. We spent the whole day cleaning up. It's time for a little reward.
>>
>>28229914
>F. Go talk to your brother and then play vidya.

Just go in and say thanks. Ask him how things are. Maybe if he is interested, we could play vidya with him.
>>
I want to do B, because the first thing we'll be asked at dinner is 'what did yo accomplish today?'.

But We've been cleaning today.

I say we look up a few job websites, bookmark them so we can use them later, and then at dinner mumble that we found some places online we applied to. Namedropping the ones we *will* apply to if necesary.
>>
>>28229953

I don't think we have it in us to carry an extended conversation. Let's take it easy for now, man.

At most we might want to knock on Kasper's door and just say thanks.
>>
>>28229959
Ah, meant to add in that we've been cleaning all day, so we'll really want to do A. Find a cover story, then have fun.
>>
>>28229927
>>28229959

Second these two. Let's reach out, but let's not overreach or we'll tense up and fuck it up.

How about let's try to play vidya, but set a time limit. We have a clock, don't we? We'll play for one hour. Just one. And if we can stop on the dot, we win. It's like gaining a level in self-control.
>>
Is there a consensus here, or should I wait a bit longer?`
>>
>>28230078

It seems writing thank you note and then playing vidya are the main things?
>>
>>28230078
The consensus, I think, is that we should let Kasper know we appreciate his help, without having to talk to him for long. And that we should play some video games while trying to exercise some self control. Let's try to stop after one hour and look up some websites we can use later, but claimed to have applied to during the day. It'll make them happy during dinner.
>>
>>28230173

This is a pretty good summary, I'd gladly go with this.

What Kasper did for you was nice, and despite being your spiteful little brother you think it's best to show some appreciation. You shuffle through your bookcase a locates a note book that haven't seen any use in two years. Reading through your old chemistry notes brings forth a slight feeling of nostalgia, but you brush it off and rips out a blank page. Grabbing a filt-tipped pen from your desk drawer, you write the words "Thanks for the help. - T" on the paper, fold it once, and walk to your door.

You open it as quietly as you can, which is no problem at all with the amount of experience you have doing the exact thing. Tip-toeing to your brother's room door, you hear the sound of what seems to be Mr. Scruff coming from the inside. It's not that audible, which seems understandable if he wants to be able to concentrate on reading or whatever he's doing. You slip the note under his door and rush back to your room, hearing the sound of the front door open as you're about to close your sanctuary gate behind you.

Someone just came home, and that someone is most likely your mom. You're certain that she'd appreciate the fact that you took initiative and did something for once today, but the thought alone of facing her after yesterday's speech accelerates your heartbeat and manifests that familiar ball of lead in your chest. You remember that you still have clothes in the dryer, and being the housemom that she is, Alice is most likely going to notice it soon.

In any case, you feel exhausted after today. Some recreational fun would be a good idea. You slouch back into the chair in front of your computer, and open up your game library.

What do you play?

>A. Casual first person shooter
>B. Japanese Visual Novel
>C. A decent western RPG
>D. A free-to-play MMO
>E. Shadowrun Returns
>>

Free to play MMO's are designed to suck you in as hard and fast as possible. You'll only play them for a few weeks, but you'll be dropping so much time into them that they won't be funny.

We aren't good at willpower yet. We should stay away from those.
>>
>>28230352
>>28230371

Second these. Let's do a VN instead.
>>
>>28230342
>>28230348
You chose the game called Tera Rising, a free to play MMO with dynamic combat, but before you roll a new character you start to wonder about the choice to do so. You've been incredibly active today, more active than all activity of the last three months put together. Is walking onto this slippery slope of imaginary amusement really the best thing to do at this point in time, where you easily might extinguish the spark of resolve that's ever so slowly growing inside your heart?

The fact that you have a multi monitor computer setup makes the choice much easier. You open up the system clock, enhance the size of the clock itself, and note the time. 05:20PM. 'Alright', you tell yourself, 'time to see what I can do with this newfound willpower. Limiting myself to a single hour of gaming and actually keeping to it would prove massive things.'

You roll up a cutesy elf mage, and start out on your quest at the Isle of Dawn. As the minutes roll by, you find yourself enthralled by the game, forgetting everything about the outside world in the process. At some point during a cutscene, you glance at the system clock on your other screen. The time is now 06:13PM.

Seven more minutes, right at the point where it's starting to get good. Doubt clouds your mind. There's going to be at least an hour until dinner is ready anyway. But you promised yourself. But dad isn't even home yet, and mom won't confront you without him at her side. Yes, but you promised yourself. You're in a shitty situation already and you finally managed to do something progressive, don't waste that. Yes, but exactly because of this I'm allowed a little extra, to reward myself for doing good.

>Roll 1d20 for initiative. Highest of first 3 rolls count.

The next thing you don't do it continue playing. A solid, imaginary dome of adamantium encapsulates your resolve to stay true to your own promise, and with a stern expression you log out of Tera right away. You get up, walk to your door, stealth-runs to the bathroom, and lock the door behind you. As you splash cold water in your face, you turn your head up to meet your own gaze. The eyes that are looking back have a look of steely willpower in them.

Not again. Not this time. This time it's too important.

You take a long sip of water, which helps a great deal cooling down your mind and spirit. Sneaking back to your room, you notice the faint smell of something being fried downstairs. Perhaps it's onions, it smells a bit like that. That your mom is preparing dinner is a solid sign that dad is on his way home, since for some reason the timing of dinner being ready and dad coming home is almost always perfect. Settling back in front of your computer, idling at the desktop, you decide it's time to look up some job opportunities. Opening a local job listing website reveals a ton of jobs, all which requires some sort of experience and/or socializing. At your current moment where you're not even able to face your own brother, applying for anything seems out of the question, but it's always nice to be able to tell your mom that you've looked into some of it.

Your biggest issue at the moment is your inability to communicate vocally with others. That somehow has to be fixed. But how? Where does one even start with that? Would someone from your family be capable of teaching you the ropes? Would they laugh at your for requesting it? Doubt again clouds your mind, and a feeling of deep despair starts building in your chest.

>A. Whine on your regular imageboard
>B. Cry long and hard to get emotional release
>C. Go downstairs and pick up your clothes from the dryer
>D. Attempt to ask your brother if he can help you become sociable
>E. Go help mom with dinner
>F. Other
>>
I read the /r9k/ post and found this thread. I don't frequent /tg/ but I'm enjoying this quest!

Over the coming month I'd like to see Tammy develop her life coping skills but rather than going back to school or getting a job (both horrible options) I'd like to see her have wonderful adventures being homeless.

This is how I developed into an adult a few years ago and I don't regret it.
>>
I have to leave for 3 hours in 15 minutes. Karate training. But I'll most definitely continue once I return full of spirit from hours of brutal training.

If you wish, you can settle on a job Tammy can attempt to get. Keep in mind she's incredibly awkward, have what counts as no experience, and still can't set a foot outside the house.
>>
>>28230638

Man, torn between A and C.

A would be the easy choice.

If we pick C, let's try to say something, anything, to mom. 'Hey.' 'Smells good.' Anything. The DC for talking to mum has to be really really low, because she's mom, right?
>>
>D.
>>
>>28230638
F. Should we go the sims route and talk to ourselves in the mirror?
There's plenty of youtube videos to coach people how to interview as well.
And we should look to see what kind of professional looking clothes we own, and if they still even fit.

Let's make a thread. Maybe anons have some good advice.

And while we're waiting for replies we can go pick up our clothes.

>>28230678
>>28230709
How do you admit to someone that you have no idea how to talk to people? Especially our own brother? How do you even begin to raise that as an issue? If it comes up somehow we can admit it and ask for help. But going up and asking for help for something so shameful? Seems impossible to me.

>>28230691
This is something we could do. And when we think we have a handle on it we can ask our brother, or mother, if they can help us with interviewing. Interviewing is a skill. It's something we can admit we need help with, as opposed to asking for help with the basic function of talking to people like a normal person.
>>
>>28230771
I said D as more of just talking to our brother.
>>
>>28230638
>C. Go downstairs and pick up your clothes from the dryer

>>28230638

>C

We get the laundry, dart in and out...then, maybe say something to mom.

Alternatively,

>F, relapse into memories of The Incident, descend into hysterics.
>>
>>28231033
Thank him in person, I guess? Try to talk to him about books, maybe?
>>
>>28231074
Does he like books or was he doing homework? Have we read any books worth talking about? We can't talk to him about homework, he hates use for dropping out of high school. He'll start judging us if we bring it up.

Maybe we could talk to him about Mr. Scruff. Cats are easy to talk about, people like cats.
>>
>>28231093
I thought "Mr. Scruff" was some kind of weird euphemism for masturbation.
>>
>>28230712

That's probably really advanced level for us right now, I think. Worth considering later, but not this moment.

Right now what we need are easy victories. Like low-level questing. So looking at videos, and then trying mom, then Kasper, and finally dad, seems like one way of doing it.

If we can talk to everyone in our family and they talk to us, that's a win. We conquered the house. Then we can take it outside.
>>
>>28231113
>>28231093

Mr. Scruff is a DJ. Which makes sense, he's listening to music while reading.

Damn, it sounds like he'd be a cool brother if we get him onside.
>>
>>28231132
And that we will do. He's probably angry at us because we're been so focused on ourselves when what happened two years ago happened to him too.
>>
>>28231132
Oh.

Clearly we should google Mr. Scruff so we can talk to him about music and pretend we're an expert. That can't go badly, at all.
>>
>>28230638
C then E, clothes then help dinner.
>>
>>28231148
What exactly happened, again?
>>
>>28231168
We don't know. I'm just guessing it happened to him too, because it explains his anger.
>>
>>28231185
Oh, right. I want to think about it a little bit so we know what happened.
>>
>>28231168
Maybe some really fucked up bullying thing, or rape (lel), or getting humiliated in front of the entire school, or someone got shot through the heart, and Tam's the blame.
>>
>>28231228
>someone got shot through the heart, and Tam's the blame
Unfairly, right?
>>
>>28231185
He might just be mad because they used to get along or something and her NEET ways ruined the whole relationship.
>>
>>28231268
Or that we're doing absolutely nothing. He goes to school, he goes to sports, he has friends. He does stuff.

And there we are, every day, doing jack shit nothing.

It honestly pisses people off to live with someone who doesn't even do basic housework.
>>
>>28230638
>C. Go downstairs and pick up your clothes from the dryer

We can say hello to mom on the way back, and then run for it.

>>28231118
I like this idea and the way of thinking about it.

Talking to ourself is Easy Mode. Mom is Normal. Kasper is Hard. Dad is Dante Must Die Mode.

And googling for "how to talk to people" seems like something we would do.
>>
>>28231268
>>28231287
That still means fixing our relationship with him will follow from fixing our life.
>>
>>28231322
Yes, that's true.
>>
>>28230638
>C. Go downstairs and pick up your clothes from the dryer

Then

>D
>>
>>28231287
>And there we are, every day, doing jack shit nothing.

Oh god, that is pretty much me.. I do housework though but bipolar is a struggle at times.

>>

Agreed.

>I'd like to see her have wonderful adventures being homeless.
I can see that turning out not better.

I figure we won't find out until Tammy develops the emotional fortitude to allow herself to reflect on it and actually face it, or she ends up seeing some similar situation playing out and has a PTSD Flashback.

You stand up and waltz around your room, controlling your breathing and nudging your chest with a clenched fist trying to force your body back to relaxation. You stop in your tracks and takes a look at your room; cleanliness and organized things around, fresh clothes lying on a made bed ready to be folded, the last rays of light from the sun creating dancing fire on your scrubbed walls, and an overall odour of nice detergents. You take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, and you heartbeat slows to a normal rate. Something about a structured living space makes you relaxed, the same way a hunter finds an open camp fire relaxing. You're reminded that you still have clothes in the dryer, so you slip on some jeans and a top, walk over and out into the hallway.

Closing the door behind you, it hits you that you just exited your room without attempting to do so soundless. It simply didn't cross your mind to make sure no one heard. This kind of carefree behaviour was unseen in the you just a day ago, evidence that change has indeed happened, if even just in the slightest degree. Knowing that you might end up facing your mom if you head downstairs, you swallow a ball and drag yourself to the stairs. Walking down, you try your best to make little noise, and succeed in so. You enter the laundry room unnoticed and pack your last portion of newly washed clothes into an IKEA bag that you fling over your shoulder as you make your way back to the staircase.

The house layout is as such that there is an entrance hall that has doors to almost every room on the ground floor, and the staircase leading upstairs. One has to cross through it to walk between different halves of the house. As you exit the utility room linked with the laundry room and walk into the hallway, your mom struts out wearing a cure, pink apron and holding a spatula. There's a clear smell of roasted meat emanating from the kitchen. You both freeze in your tracks, staring wide-eyed at each other, your mom with a very surprised look on her face.

"My goodness, Tammy my dear, you look fantastic today! I can't remember last time I saw you looking like this, so... neat looking! Oh, please tell me you listened to us yesterday and have decided to return to your old self!" Your mom is smiling so brightly at this point, clutching her apron at her chest with both hands, a tear of joy forming in the corner of her eye.

You swing the somewhat heavy bag of clothes from your shoulder and drops it onto the floor. Realizing there's no way to escape this situation, you take a heavy breath and prepare yourself mentally for what will be the first conversation you've had in a very, very long time.

"...H-hi mom..."

Exhaling air and forming the words in your mouth seems so unnatural, you almost stumble just trying to say two words. The sound of what comes out is almost like a croak, raspy and scraping like nails on a washboard. You take another breath, this time feeling a little more prepared to explain yourself.

"I listened yesterday. You made it very clear."

Swallowing a large amount of spit that had built up in your mouth, you straighten yourself up, take another breath, and tell her what she wants to hear;

"I will change."

Your mom drops the spatula on the floor and runs over and embrace you. Her knees give away under her, and she drags you down with her to the floor. She's holding you tight, almost squeezing you to the point where you can't breathe. She's audibly sobbing, babbling about how she's looked forward to this day for so long and how amazingly happy she is for you in between sobs and breaks for taking a breath.

You're frozen in your place. The embrace of your mom have paralyzed you. You haven't had a hug in what seems like eternity, and before you know it you're overwhelmed with a feeling of relief. Tears once again find their way to you eyes canals, and with a sob you wrap your arms around your mother and squeeze her as you've never squeezed her before. You're both sitting there on your knees, embracing and crying as if you haven't seen each other for two years. And in some way, you haven't.

You take a firm hold of your mom's dress, burying your face in her shoulder. God, you'd forgotten how much you missed her; her warmth, her touch, her voice, the sound of her heartbeat, everything that makes her your mom. As another wave of loneliness leaves your body, you turn your face upwards and lets out a long, heartfelt cry. The bond between her mother and her child is strong. So strong that separation leaves scars on both sides, and those scars only grow the clearer the separation is. In the moment that felt like an eternity where you and Alice just sat in silence, clutching on to each other and crying to no end, those deep, cruel scars left from the last two years healed to mere scratches. No one had to say anything to confirm this, since it was clear to both sides what was happening.

After your cries turned to sobs, and your sobs to silence, you both stand up. Alice takes her hands and caresses your face, leaning in to kiss you on your forehead.
"How I've missed you." she says, smiling the smile that as a child always would make you feel secure.
You don't know what to say. Emotions fluctuate between happiness and panic, seeing as this is the first time in such a long while that you've had any human contact at all. After nervously glancing around the hallway, avoiding the gaze of your mom, you manage to stutter out a sentence:
"I c-cleaned my room today. Felt i-it was needed."
Your mom says nothing, but simply press you against her chest. Once again you can feel her heartbeat, and that calms you a bit in a kind of ancient, indescribable way.

The disruptive thoughts of what you still have to face in the coming months return with a vengeance, and the ball of lead forms in your chest yet again, knocking the air out of you. Your breathing and heartbeat increases, and you rip yourself from the embrace of your mother, leaving her with an expression of surprised sadness.
"I-I have to go.", you say, grabbing the bag of clothes off the floor and leaving your mom standing alone in the hallway, dumbfounded. As you quickly pass Kasper's room, you can hear that the music have stopped. As you enter your room, you make sure to deadbolt the door behind you in the case that your mom brings the spare key. Again you try to steady yourself, but the magnitude of what just happened conflicts with the magnitude of what you still have to do in the coming month. After walking restlessly around your room for some minutes, nudging your chest like you're trying to light it on fire, you find the ball of ice cold lead not being able to disappear. You collapse onto your bed, grab your pillow, and yell at the top of your lungs into it while simultaneously punching the wall with a clenched fist.

You're not good with dealing with emotions. Never has been. And all this just feels like too much to deal with. At least you calmed down a bit now, and use the moment of clarity to move yourself to your regular position in front of the computer. The silence in your room makes it possible for you to hear the front door close with a bang. Your father is home, which means dinner is ready.

Today has been the most eventful day in the last year at least. You've gone from being an inactive, filthy, good-for-nothing NEET to an active, clean, on-the-way-to-a-better-existence NEET. The event of two years ago left you with a magnitude of emotional damage that you hid away deep within yourself with the help of isolation and escapism. Today you managed to break the first seal of that spell, eliminating the filth that you called home. You feel good about yourself, and with good reason. You've finally begun repairing the bridge that was burned between you and your family, and that itself is a feat worthy of the record books.

Stretching yourself, you slump back in your chair, letting your arms dangle down the side. As you stare into the blank ceiling, you wonder if being active have always been this exhausting. You figure that in truth it must be the release of emotion that's worn you out, and not the physical work of cleaning and washing clothes. You let out a long, satisfying yawn and stand up. You notice the pile of fresh clothes occupying your bed, and decide to move over and fold them together. Sorting socks from panties and shirts from jeans and arranging them all in neat, folded piles proves to take longer than expected, and as the minutes tik by you feel the strain being put on your eyelids. Placing the last stack of clothes into its rightful drawer, you dump yourself onto the bed. As you stare blankly up in the air above you, you wonder what kind of change the new day will bring. Slowly you drift off into the realm of dreams, and for the first time in years get the kind of sleep that only a working person gets; the sleep that is deserved.

I'm honestly tired myself, guys, and I feel like my writing doesn't get better because of that. It's been a long Monday.

Good work on the progress, though, I can't wait to see what shenanigans will happen with Tammy and her family. Remember, I might be the constructor but you're the architects.

By the way, how can I improve my writing skills? I haven't done this kind of thing before, and I struggle a bit with composition since it has to be done kinda fast.

Also, I will continue this tomorrow at around 18:00 UTC+1, in a new thread if necessary.
