You are Yuri Ivanov a Corporal in the Tesenturian Reserve Guard who after attempting to save your best friend’s life you’ve been sent into the unknown country called Tristain, a place where the existence of magic and mages exist.

Yeah…magic.

However, despite this realization and after the consumption of an unknown quantity of alcohol you’ve somewhat grown used to your environment and with no way to get home in the foreseeable future you’ve decided to immerse yourself in various activities and situations.

Such as witnessing the arrival of a gaudy blond who’s whirlwind of fake rose petals blow past you and the half-pint exiting through a nearby window.

“Do not worry for I, Guiche de Gramont have heard the Princess’s plight and am willing to offer my humble services to the cause.”

You don’t know whether to be surprised how you did not notice him eavesdropping, confused on why is he even at the girl’s dorm, or just frustrated as you can literally see a powder keg waiting to be blown.
So you just decided to bring your palms onto the sides of your head and began rubbing the temples as you sighed from exhaustion.

"Guiche I'm not even going to ask what you we're in the girls dorm, much less at Miss.Valliere’s door.” You simply stated trying to gather your thoughts on the whole thing. “But I won't turn down a helping hand in this situation.”

“Well I know that I did a poor showing in our previous duel bu-wait what?”

“You heard him now get ou-wait what?”

Both turn to look at you not expecting the answer you just gave and in any other circumstance you will share the same reaction.

“But Yuri!” Half-Pint was about to speak out but you held you hand up motioning her to stop.
>>
>>28196792

“Just hear me out. Considering we are heading to hostile territory I feel more comfortable traveling with more than just the two of us.” You begin to explain to the fuming Half-Pint. “Also despite his experience has some skill in magic which in a pinch might be useful. You will be useful in a pinch, right?”

You look up at the blond with a cold glare in which he responds with an audible gulp before nodding frantically. Half-Pint on the other hand only grits her teeth when you mention his skill in magic and while not intentional probably is taking as a subtle jab at her own aptitude for it or rather lack of.

You take a deep breath before exhaling loudly before continuing with your reasoning. “Besides do you really want Guiche of all people to be left behind with information about this important mission involving the Princess?”

Her eyes widen and you could even see the gears of her mind turning as she visually imagines the scenario in which we do leave the blond behind. She then turns to the blond who in turn looks away from her before turning back to you.

“You…have a point.”

“I know I do, I wouldn’t have invited him if it were otherwise.” You gave a toothy grin at the girl before moving on to the next agenda. “So when are we leaving.”

“Considering that the Prince is fighting a losing battle. Time is of the essence so I will like to leave by morning.” She said before she gives you a glance. “However, we’re all exhausted by today’s events and travelling by night will make it worse.”

She explains pausing for a moment while looking at you expecting some kind of disagreement or rebuttal before continuing. “So I will like to take tomorrow to prepare our things and rest up making sure no one knows we leave before departing at dawn the day after.”

You nod agreeing with her plan before walking towards Guiche who instantly stiffens up. “You can keep your mouth shut for a day right?”
>>
>>28196851

He quickly shakes his head in agreement before managing to compose himself and begins to pose.

“O-Of Course, I Guiche de mo-“

“Yeah, yeah, I got it just keep quiet and I won’t turn you into rations and feed it to Slyphid.” You cut the Blond’s speech short before giving him a hard pat on his shoulder causing him to twitch as you head towards the door. “I’m heading to bed, night.”

You open the door and leave hearing Half-Pint’s and Guiche’s response as you head back towards your cabin and hit the literal hay of your straw bed.

>You have roughly a day to prepare leaving on your diplomatic mission. What do you wish to do?

>Also as I promised I made a twitter account so follow me at @TsukaimaQuest to get the latest thread or at least the latest update considering my post speed.

>Check our guns and ammo. Make sure we can haul them securely.
>Gather supplies: food (non-perishable preferd), money, rope, tools, medical supplies, lots and lots of booze
>Sneak Slyphid a large amount of food, as we won't be able too for the fore see able future
>>
>>28196862

time to go through our kit and figure our what we will and won't need. Cause we don't want to take our entire kit with us.

So our kit is

Body armor
Engineering Kit
Demo Kit
2 frag
2 smoke
Rations
Mess kit
Sleeping bag

Moisin rifle +Ammo (dont remember how much we used against foquet)
Moisin revolver +Ammo 35 rounds in total

M3 Grease Gun +Ammo 7 30-round magazines

Derf

Fighting Knife

So what we need to do is
>Make sure our guns are in good shape, specifically the grease gun.
>Make sure we have enough supplies for this.
>If we have enough left over we can use some of the vodka we brewed and make a Molotov or two.
>If we need to test the grease gun or the Molotov notify Colbert for safety and if he wants to have a look.

Okay, so consensus is to check our weaponry, prepare supplies, and feed the dragon.

Also to create some Molotov and test the grease gun?

Also can i have a specific list on what are we carrying due to some extra items we obtained so far carrying everything may slow Yuri down.
>>
>>28198326
Yes thats about right. We can leave the engineering kit and the sleeping bag as well as the moisin if the grease gun is in working condition. Also did the either the grease gun or the moisin come with a carrying strap?
>>
>>28198326
No objections here
>>
>>28198350
The Mosin Nagant did have a strap and the Grease Gun may have had one but it had probably rotted away.

Also how do you want to test the Grease Gun?
>>
>>28198394
First check that the action works by priming it like you were loading the gun. If it doesn't catch then we can load 5 rounds into a magazine and shoot a target. if it does catch, we can disassemble it and use some of our alcohol to clean it.
>>
>>28198455
Okay give me 9d20,
1 is for cleaning
5 is for testing the shots
1 is Molotov creating

If this ends up like in the series, Francis is going to end up getting so much shit from us for his incompetence considering how he conducted himself during the mission.
Here are some of the things he did in the series.

1. He shoots a squadmate on first meeting.
2. His traveling via sky made the group a target.
3. He fails to support squad properly during the bandit attack.
4. He brought personal feelings into mission when he demanded Louise and him should sleep in the same room.
5. He actively attempts to fracture the unity of the squad.

"Are the Griffin Knights by any chance a penal regiment?"
"No, they're an elite order under her majesty's banner."

You woke up bright and early the next day in order to prepare supplies and equipment however the first thing you decided to work on was prepping the Grease gun to functional use.

Highest Roll 20

Luckily there wasn’t much to work on the grease gun other than cleaning up some rust in a few spots and oiling up a few parts to ensure they won’t jam up.

You’re surprised on how well the condition of this gun is despite it being under the earth for over 20-30 plus years.

Once you’re sure the gun can fire properly you took the gun into the forest in order not to attract the attention of the students who may still be sleeping and set up some targets on some trees. Once having the preparations finished you loaded up your magazine filled containing 5 rounds as you switched it to semi-auto, turn the safety off, took aim and fire.

Highest Roll: 23, 19, 22, 17, 18

All your shots were all dead center or very close it. Even if it was at a much shorter distance then with your rifle the accuracy of this gun is impressive considering where it was. Not to mention it didn’t jam up so you’re now positive this gun is now serviceable.

Coming back from the woods just in time for breakfast after putting away your gun back in the cabin you head towards Marteau’s for a very satisfying meal. Shortly after by asking Marteau and the staff or by plain stealing some items in the castle….

Highest Roll: 13

Managed to take some bandages and converted some napkins and table clothes into a couple roles of makeshift battle dressings. You also managed to make use of some of the crude vodka in your basement to make some rather potent (and potentially painful) disinfectant. Overall you managed to make a couple of crude first aid kits.

Highest Roll: 1
>>
>>28204814

After feeding Slyphid for lunch and trying to spend your day as routine as possible you tried to make some Molotov cocktails which accidently blew up when you tried testing them. You had to avoid the stares of the water mages when you had to lie about what had happen.
However the rest of the day went by like a blur mostly recovering from your burns in the dullness of the recovery room and trying to avoid being ‘nursed’ by Kirche when you returned to the cabin to finish your recovery. Half-Pint was not pleased with your state when she visited though but kept quiet when everyone was visiting.

You do manage to fashion a sling from for the grease gun out of cloth in your spare time. By the time night has faded and dawn was slowly arriving you force yourself out of bed gathering your equipment which consisted of.

M3A1 Submachine Gun AKA “Grease Gun”: Chambered 30/30, Spare Ammunition 175

Model 1895 Nagant Revolver: Chambered 7/7, Spare ammunition 28

Kukri based knife

Derflinger (Who kept nagging at you for leaving him alone all this time.)

Light Weight Body Armor: Built for maneuverability it can stop sidearm ammunition easily and rifle rounds to a lesser extent.

2 RGD-5 Fragmentation Grenades: 3.9oz TnT charge, 25m radius

2 RDG-2 Smoke Grenades

Demolition Kit: Equipment to help arm or defuse explosives. Includes pliers, wire cutters, a mine detector, 9 pounds of c4, wiring, fuses, etc

6 Days’ worth of Military Rations plus Coffee packet

2 Small med kits.

You contemplated wearing your uniform but considering the situation opted for your civilian clothes to not draw too much attention and walk toward the designated meeting place.

Highest Roll: 14

Besides a small close call with a sleeping Slyphid you managed to get there without any problem and without any detection.

Only to see Guiche mole molesting your benefactor with the owner standing there with the horses with a conflicted look on his face.

"Not getting cold feet are we Guiche?" You said causing the poor blond who obviously did not notice your arrival to jump up in fright.

“Yu-Yuri…” He turns to look at you a bit shaken but immediately composes himself before falling back to his regular routine by posing and acting obnoxious. “Why of course as a descendant of Noble mages who served her Majesty it is a honor and duty to answer the call.”

“Does that call also involve your familiar molesting Miss Valliere?” You asked as you stared at the giant mole poking and prodding the poor girl who was on her butt resisting the creature to no avail.

“That is strange normally he isn’t like this.” He responded though a bit concerned does nothing to help but rather stares at the scene with some interest.

“You idiots don’t just stand there and help me!” Half-Pint yelled at the two of you as she struggles before the mole’s nose caught something around the girl’s neck which a small chain necklace is holding a blue ring.

“Oh, I see now Veldandi has a fondness of fine jewelry so no one wonder he’s attracted towards Louise.” He muttered as he nods in understanding.

“That’s great and all but GET. HIM. OFF.” She yelled back in which you sighed while you grab the creature and hoisting it off her and tossed the mole to the side. Once freed of the molesting familiar she got back up and dusted her clothes off.

“Now that’s taken care of can we please get going!” She yelled at you and Guiche obviously a bit irritated from her attack.

You nod and grudgingly got on the back of the goddamn horse you rode to the capital. Once Guiche and Half-Pint were settled up and ready you rode off.

According to Half-Pint it will take two days to reach the port city of La Rochelle in which we’re supposed to take a ship to reach the country of Albion. In which the first day of traveling went by like a blur as you encounter no problems. Your thoughts drift towards the eventual boat ride into the country and while you know that you’re going to enter hostile territory, you can’t help but look forward to seeing the ocean.

During your service you always traveled through conventional land routes as your unit traveled from on front to the next. Very rarely have you ever traveled by air much less by water the former mostly for quick land deployments while the latter being ferried through small rivers or lakes. Other than a few picture books from your childhood and photos that one of your comrades occasionally receives via mail from his sister who participates in the studying abroad program.

You even remember the number of bruises he received and inflicted trying to fight off the others who try to get ahold of it just to see his sister in a swimsuit.

Yourself included.

The second day however was significantly harder as your lack of skill in horse riding began to show as you struggle keeping up with the nobles in front of you. Even the prick of a horse is giving you a hard time by occasionally bucking trying to make you fall. Not to mention while both Guiche and Louise were skilled in riding the occasional stops for resting took their toll on the time.

Needless to say progress was slowed as your reach the mountainous outskirts of the city.

Wait…mountainous? Isn’t this supposed to be a port city?
>>
>>28214640

You shrug that thought for now as your group decided to camp underneath the ravine that stretches across the footpath leading towards the city. After setting up your tents and gathered some fire food you proceeded to make dinner. However the two nobles only took enough bread and sandwiches to last during the trip but failed to account for the delays leaving them without food.

Leading you to use your rations which resulted…

“This stuff is terrible!” Guiche spat out choking on the cracker and mystery meat he put together after you cooked it in the fire. “How can you eat this?”

“First of all, I warned you it tasted terrible.” You replied holding back a chuckle at the Blond’s expense while you nibbled on your plastic textured candy bar. “Second if you’re going to complain then don’t eat it.”

Whatever he was going to reply back with was drowned out by his stomach rumbling causing him to keep quiet and continued to eat his share of the rations forcing it down.

Well it seems he’s learning how to be quiet all things considering. You turn to see how Half-Pint’s doing with her share of the food having not heard a peep from her when you fixed up this meal. Only to see towards your surprise that she had already finished with her share and was about to compliment her.

Only to stop as you see her shaking profusely while her trembling hands lifts her cup to her mouth downing the contents.

“Miss. Valiere?” You said softly as you edged close to the shaking girl only for her to snap her head towards you.

“Yu-yuri this stuff is so bitter.” She stated her response so fast that you almost didn’t quite catch it. “How can you drink this stuff! It’s so bad. Yet so good. But it’s bad. I feel like I can keep going forever!”
>>
>>28214716

You raise an eyebrow as she continued to stammer on and on pausing to take sip her cup. You then take a look at the nearby pot she had next to her and seeing that it was nearly empty. However sniffing the contents and looking at a ripped packet nearby you finally pieced it together.

Half-Pint had consumed coffee from a Tesenturian Coffee packet.

One that was supposed to have enough caffeine to last for three square meals.

One that was now empty and apparently was filled brewed into a pot.

A pot in which was almost empty and she herself had nearly drank the entire thing.

Could have at least saved you a cup.

You sighed at the twitching pinkette who continued sipping her cup.

“b-But the food was terrible. Wine and water made it worse!” She complained shaking her cup at you some of the dark contents spilling out. “This made it easier to eat!”

Well you couldn’t deny that…

Still she’s going to be hopped up on this stuff until morning considering her size and caffeine intake and will most likely have to carry her to town after her high.

Not to mention her constant tweaking is kind of disturbing you.

With a sigh you walk toward your pack and pulled your wineskin which is currently filled with cater to help her wash the caffeine out.

“I rather not.” You replied back curtly before you quickly grabbed your revolver and in a strange burst of energy you pull a quick draw like fashion that will make Maya green with envy set your sights and fired.

Highest Rolls: 22, 23, 1, 23, 21

All your shots save one hit their mark down as the spearmen surrounding the sword wielding bandit collapsed dead.

Highest Roll: 20

Leaving the only survivor to collapse on his knees, dropping his sword, barely issuing a half-hearted order to attack before defecating himself.

Highest Rolls: 19, 10

However the ones from the rear hesitated to advance forward after seeing their comrades killed in such a swift manner. However, the archers were undeterred as they shot another volley of arrows as your horses try to dodged them in a panic.

“We got to go Guiche.” You yelled at the Blond. “We can get away now.”

Highest Roll: 1

However he just stares at the corpses that were once threatening him his horse dodging.

“Dammit Guiche.” You were about ride over there to snap him out of it until you felt a blow to your side as one of the archers managed to get a bead on you and pierced you with an arrow. Your body armor saving you from scoring a direct hit.

That is not to say it didn’t hurt like a bitch.

>What do you say or do

I think Guiche just realized how wrong he was when he said that he wouldn't need a gun thanks to his magic.

He just saw 4 men reduced to a pile of meat and 1 reduced to a terrified wreck stained in shit and piss in less time than what it takes for him to even bring out his wand.

I think it's safe to say he's probably going to get a flintlock for himself after this is done.
>>

>>

Well, it won't take long, assuming we're not running away from them.
Just grab the sword for Guiche, any money they have and some rations from the corpses, we're not going to be hauling stuff we're not gonna use.

The guys on the ravine aren't probably gonna stick around once magic starts flying at them.
>>
>>28248968
Do you even reserve corps? Looting is the very foundation.
>>
>>28246694

Moving Half-Pint off of your shoulder and to onto the horse properly as you dismount and make a mad dash for the still shocked bandit.

Highest Roll: 17

Luckily neither the spearman pursued you nor had the archers gotten a shot off as you try to grab the shivering mess of what you assume is the leader of these bandits, which to his credit snapped out of his stupor as he sees you charging at him and immediately goes for his sword to fend you off.

Highest Roll: 18

You didn’t even give him opportunity as you kicked it out of his reach and you go for his throat and arms to pin him down. The struggle was brief and you immediately had gotten him in a hold, pulling yourself up with your hostage you tell your demands.

"Order your friends to throw their bows down the ravine and leave or I’ll snap your neck.”

Highest Role: 12

Before he can go and relay those orders a few arrows flew trying to aim for you but ended up hitting the poor bastard in the shoulders and chest causing him to howl in pain. Judging by the placement of these shots he’s mortally wounded and is in his death throes.

These bastards were either trying to aim at you and were overconfident in their archery skills or they just didn’t give two shits about him. Either way he’s useless now as you see those fours spearman charging towards you seeing that your hostage is dying and your hands are full. With spears in hand their willing to impale you and your meat shield.

Highest Roll: 16

“F-F-F-F-Fireball!”

A large explosion appeared in the center of the charge causing the spearman to fly, their bodies’ like ragdolls as they landed by slamming into the sides of the ravine or just landed awkwardly onto the floor.

You look towards Half-Pint one hand holding her wand pointing at the area where the explosion happened while the other grabbing the reigns of your horse. She almost looks majestic in that moment.
>>
>>28251896

If it weren’t for the fact she’s still shaking like a solder in shell shock.

“I-I-I- did it, Yuri!” She turns her head towards you. “I blew them up. You think their dead? I don’t think they are? Nobody ever dies when I cast this spell? But I managed to pull off a spell!”

Her mouth going off several times a minute in which you can barely catch it all.

“Not now Archers!” You yelled back dropping the useless sack of meat as you point towards the top of the ravine.

“Huh?” She looks up just in time to see another volley of arrows raining down.

Highest Roll: 20

Only to be repelled by a tornado of wind.

Shortly after, a bombardment of flame and icicles rained down on both sides of the ravine shattering and devastating the archers. You look up to see a familiar looking blue dragon illuminated by the flaming bombardments circling the skies followed by some sort of bird monstrosity.

“Yahoo, Darling we’re here to save you!” A sultry voice echoed across the night sky and it wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to see her waving down at you while for some reason emphasizing her cleavage.

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>28251943

(This is assuming that all the bandits are dead or incapacitated.)

*wave back*
"Good timing you two!"
*Turn back to Guiche*
"Hey Guiche get it together!"

Then afterwards now that all of them are dead we can pick through the bodies for anything useful.

I wonder if we can make Wardes question his choice of allegiance with reconquista by telling him tales of freedom, democracy and constitutional rights.
>>
>>28264973
The problem is that Wardes is part of Reconquista who are like a cross between the Illuminati and the Catholic church which in turn are a puppet for a conquering tyrant. Rights and freedom are not things he is lacking. He fights out of a desire for power and control. Democracy is actually anathema to his and Reconquista's goals.
>>
>>28264973
>>28265364
Right, they're basically the overzealous crusader faction that think that all will be fine and dandy as soon as they conquer Jerusalem.

And we all know how that ended
>>
bump
>>
Alright, we know Wardes is in it for the power, but what we don't know is, WHY is he in it for the power? Granted, our character doesn't know he's a backstabbing cockbite yet, but maybe we could somehow find a way to inadvertently coax a little information and\or background out of the guy, assuming the GM's feeling up to it.
>>
>>28269753
I thought he was an agent to the pope.
>>
>>28270707
It differs between anime and LN
Anime he's part of Reconquista and dies.
LN he gets shot by the Zero's guns and survives (How do you survive a wound from 12.7mm machine guns and 20mm cannons?) Then goes on to research the Void and gets hired by the pope to retrieve Saito and Tiffania from the elves in the desert.

It really sucks that the author died, seeing as how close he was to completing the series. (20/22)
>>
>>28270886

but yeah magic healing but even then there would have to be someone healing him in mid air due to how badly wounded someone would be. To say nothing of the fall killing him from the fact that his mount is dead.
>>
>>28271574
Speaking of wounds and magic, it's a good thing Tabitha is a triangle class mage with at least one element in water.

Is she able to use basic healing spells? I forgot. How bad are our wounds anyway?
>>
>>28271687
Not bad, we got grazed by an arrow which didnt penetrate but still poked us through the body armor. Which would mean we are probably wearing some sort of Kevlar vest with ballistic plating. And Kevlar is kind of crap against piercing weapons like arrows and anything spikey. So it's probably nothing serious. Just something to put a bandage on and let heal on it's own if we need to.
>>
>>28271740
It's a light weight armor, which can stop handgun rounds , and to a lesser extent rifle rounds.

Arrows fall under a lower category of both. or else I made a mistake with that?
>>
>>28271740
Well, considering he is also a demolition's guy, the thing should be splinterproof as well, so...
>>
>>28271740
>>28271796
I wouldn't think an arrow could pierce kevlar, at least not be able to go through it fully, so I assumed it was some thick leather tunic we got here.
>>

522 KB

>>28271796
>>28271914
Yes arrows would fall below hand gun rounds. And a simple Kevlar vest can stop handgun rounds and some lower caliber rifle rounds. But I've seen demonstrations where something like an ice pick or a prison shank just goes straight through Kevlar. It's because Kevlar protects against bullets like a net, catching the round. But piercing weapons like an ice pick or a bodkin arrowhead have too small of a head to catch and so the spike just pushes the fibers apart. I'm just assuming Kevlar since its pretty much a universal body armor by today's standards. It mostly depends on the arrowheads used. A standard stone or broadhead arrow will give us a poke in the side and maybe draw a little blood but it will be something that is minor and can be ignored after simply putting a bandage over it. A bodkin will definitly be a more major wound. And considering it's a bandit arrow I'm guessing its a broadhead.

>>28271894
Which is why I included the ballistic plating in the vest. But remember we are from an under-equipped fighting force so I wouldnt expect anything too advanced.

>>28271914
We said we were taking the vest along too. It's probably under a traveling cloak or a leather vest.
>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IM7Bz2vXtY
Bodkin arrows are pretty much the only arrows that go through kevlar reliably.
>>
>>28271894
Honestly considering how under and unevenly equipped the reserve corp is I'm surprised we didn't just get a pat on the shoulder and a good luck wish before going to set/defuse bombs
>>
>>28271996

>Well it pierce our side though the damage will need to checked later.

You can’t help but smirk as you see the flying reptile flying in the night sky as you gave a casual wave back before looking at the scene of destruction those three brought down on these poor bastards. Trusting the ones on top of the ravine to Tabitha, Kirche, Slyphid, and the one riding the giant bird you proceed to check on the ones on the ground.

Not before you gave a hard slap to Guiche’s side who was still dazed after your first attack causing him to fall off his horse and land onto the ground rear first.

“Come on kid, battle’s over.” You stated calmly and simply as you pulled the arrow from your side. “Help me check the bodies for anything useful.”

“Wha-“His eyes widened processing what you just said before picking himself up stammering. “Bu-bu-but.”

“I just need you to tie up anyone who isn’t dead and strip them of any weapons they might have should they wake up.” You calmly explained to the blond as you pointed towards the small crater Half-Pint made. “While this might be surprising but judging by the explosion there might be a chance their still alive and I rather not have to deal with them if they wake up.”

He responded by stiffly nodding and summoning a few bronze Valkyries proceeded to follow your orders and giving a sigh of relief when he thought you were not looking. Apparently he didn’t seem too eager to check for dead bodies.

That’s fine, all the more loot you don’t have to share.

Highest Roll: 10

Well that was a waste of time…
>>
>>28272144

After quickly examining the corpses you shot down and the supposed leader who was shot down by his own men you find that they didn’t carry much, other than their armor and weapons which seemed to be relatively new judging by the lack of usage or damage. You probably could make use of the material by selling it for some cash but considering the mission at hand it will be more trouble than it is worth since it will only slow you down and you don’t know where to even sell these.

Well if it’s any consolation you managed to scrounge up roughly 50 gold coins from the corpses all together.

As you finished looting the dead and the captives, Slyphid and the giant bird landed having making sure the remnants are either dead or routed.

“Well if it isn’t my favori-“You begin to speak but were cut off by a familiar sensation of soft flesh that is now cutting off your air supply.

“Darling! I was so worried!”

Your sense of hearing however is wide and clear, Kirche’s voice ringing in your ear as she continued to speak to you.

“Why didn’t you mention you were going on a trip? And not tell us or more importantly me!”

“Kirche, Stop snuggling my familiar! You’ll suffocate him! He’ll die! Leave him alone!”

Anya stared out of her bedroom window longingly.
“How did you cope with it when father died?”
“It's wasn't easy. The first days were hardest. Figuring out what comes next, how to deal with the loss, and moving on.” Anya turned toward her now ancient mother sitting next to her bed.
“Every time I hear a noise in the house I think it's Sergi coming home. I'll open the door or look around the corner and he'll be there with his stupid grin and say “You would not believe the day I am having.” She sighed again for what must have been the tenth time in the last five minutes.
“You were just a year old when I got the news that your father was not coming home. So many wives and mothers now alone to do the work of two. Not to mention the Soviet managers taking nine of our ten loaves of bread.”
“Is that why you fought in the wives rebellion?”
“Yes. To show those arrogant liars who runs this country.” The old woman made a rude gesture toward the north, and simultaneously spit into a trash bin. Anya simply laughed at her mothers headstrong attitude. Even old age and the onset of arthritis had not tempered her mothers fiery spirit. Anya looked at the black wax sealed envelope on the end table between her and her mother.

“Are you not going to open it?” Her mother asked. “Why? We both know what it means.” Two days ago the black letter had arrived. Delivered by an officer in dress uniform. She had collapsed upon the doorstep and had to be rushed to the hospital.
“Was it really worth him throwing his life away on the battle field?” She felt her mothers calloused hand grip hers.
“He didn't throw it away my child. He gave his life to protect you.” Anya wiped a tear from the end of her nose.
“I wanted to raise a family with him. To grow old together.” “So did I” Her mother replied, gripping her hand even tighter. “So did I.” They sat in silence for a moment until the small bundle Anya cradles in one arm began to squirm and girgle.
“Have you thought of a name?” Anya smiled as the infant took hold of her pinkie finger with it's tiny fingers. “Yuri.”

You dimly gave Half-Pint a thumbs-up before the lack of oxygen is becoming a big deal as you then struggle out of the fleshy hell. Once you broke free of that prison and in take fresh air you turn towards Half-Pint.

"Good work with the spell there Louise. See I told you that your spells had a use.” You said to her with a smile in which she only replied with what you think is a nod but in reality looked more like a series of twitches and spasms.

“Um, is she okay?” Kirche asked looking at her rival before looking at you. “She seems….off, more than usual too.”

Your explanation received a dim nod from the red head probably a few of the terms she didn’t understand but taking your word that Half-Pint will be alright she won’t question it.

“Kyuui” A familiar cry rang out and the feeling of wet saliva plastered your face as well as your left side of your body being nuzzled by the sensation of scaly skin.

“Nice to see you too, Slyphid.” You smiled at the blue dragon as you gently pet her which earns you another cry of joy from her. “By the way how did you find us anyway? How did you know that we even left?”

“Not there….” Tabitha stated quietly slowly turning a page in her book which kind of confuses you considering that it is still quite dark. However, her words made sense as you mentally kicked yourself for thinking that both Guiche and Half-Pint both rather noticeable students can leave classes for two days and not be noticed.

“Well still doesn’t explain how you found us?”

“Oh Darling, can you tell we’re connected by our love.” Kirche declared swooning towards your arms and leaning against you. “It’s obvious that we will find each other.”
>>
>>28290078

You can only sigh at her answer before looking towards the more reasonable of the two. “Tabitha.”

She pauses from her reading and uses her staff as a pointer and directed it at her familiar. “She sniffed you out.”

You raise an eyebrow and were about to reject that as total nonsense but you stopped as you remember the first time you met the perky dragon and how she managed to sniff out your rations even when they were canned.

The same rations you used to cook dinner tonight over an open flame no less.

You pitch the bridge of your nose again your notions of dragons being attacked by comparisons and similarities to dogs. The temples on the side of your head begin to throb as your body begins to shake as a defense to reject this notion.

You thought you were behind all this bullshit.

“Excuse me, I’m sorry to interrupt but we haven’t been introduced.” You look to see the noble who escorted the princess during her welcoming ceremony dismount his bird thing and begins to walk towards you. Half-Pint recognizing him instantly perks up even more and immediately runs behind you. “My name is Jean-Jacques Francis, Viscount of Wardes, and Captain of the Griffin Knights”

Considering the reloads, it probably has a speed loader. I mean would you want to insert EVERY bullet one by one?

I mean we could load it by hand for effect for something, but what effect will we be trying to go for if we do that?

No there is no speed loader. The cylinder doesn't come out like other revolvers. You have to insert and empty each of the 7 rounds by hand.

“Yuri Ivanov.” You replied as you extended a hand towards the noble who you could tell hesitated for a brief moment before taking your hand and shake it. "Let me guess the princess asked you to come as backup?"

He nods. “She indeed had requested my help after escorting her back to the capital. She was worried of her friend going alone.”

He then let’s go of your hand as he looks at you briefly then at Guiche who managed to tie the unconscious bandits up then lastly Kirche and Tabitha. “However, those fears seemed unfounded nevertheless I would have come regardless. Orders or not.”

You gave a raised eyebrow to this as he walks passed you towards Half-Pint who had tried to hide behind you, her face flushed with embarrassment. “My dear Louise, it has been far too long.”

He then gently grabs her by her sides and lifts her in the air and spins around.

“V-V-V-Viscount Wardes, p-p-p-put me down! I-I’m not a child. People are watching! It’s shameful!” Her caffeine fueled mouth still rapidly giving out statements, requests, and worries all at once in which you see the Captain only smiling at the Half-Pint.

This is rather unexpected and you only quirk your eyebrows watching the scene before you while quietly reloading your revolver as while the others looked onto this with either bewilderment or amusement.

“So Louise, what’s your relation with this gentleman?” Kirche asked obviously in the party that is amused by this scene. However, Half-Pint did not respond back as Wardes stopped spinning the poor girl and answering.

“She is my fiancée.” He then looks towards you. “and what is wrong with her? It seems she’s more energetic then usual?”

"A fiance huh? Wow Louise you work fast for someone your age?” You said with a mad grin on your face and in the corner of your eye you see Kirche doing the same. “I never pegged you older man type. I figured you for someone about your age.”

Her response was a dark glare which might have been intimidating if it weren’t for the fact that she’s shaking a like a small dog. Though seeing her hand inching towards her wand does raise some inner concern.

“Still is she going to be alright?” Wardes asked once again a brow raised and a frown slowly starting to appear.

"She had some coffee. It has an energetic effect when consumed.” You said as you sighed repeating this for the third time tonight. “and she consumed an entire pot."

“Is that bad?”

“Well she won’t feel so good when she starts to crash but other than that she’ll live.” You gave a shrug of your shoulders before getting back on the task at hand. “Shall we move on with the mission?”

Wardes nods motioning his Griffin to come forward and places Louise on the mount. “It will take several hours to reach the city by horse so I’ll go on ahead and buy a room for us in the city ahead of time.”

You nod in understanding considering it will be best to move now if the bandits decide to come back. Not to mention that having Louise ride a horse in her state for the rest of the trip might be a bad idea.

“Well Tabitha and I will ride on Slyphid to the city.” Kirche mentioned as Tabitha is already mounting the dragon. “You could come with us but someone needs to lead the horses to the city but you could leave Guiche to the task.”

One fun thing bit of information that nobody knows in this timeline is rifling and minie balls.
Bam! Now all of your guns now obsolete the armor of regular infantry, are more accurate and have greater range.

That's a pretty big advantage to get over another army.
Large enough to get us into nobility if we wanted.
We shall name them "Ivanov rounds", because we know how important branding is.
>>
>>28303564
There have been multiple time in which we have discussed rifling and shaped bullets. We came to the conclusion that they lack the technology to make rifled barrels without using magic, and without rifling shaped bullets are useless. We already gave Agnes the idea for the paper packets to hold the bullet and powder rather than using a horn and pouch of bullets.
>>
>>28303769
Wasn't rifling invented like 1490's, but the reason why it wasn't used much was because blackpowder leaves fouling, which would eventually bury the rifling in the stuff unless you clean the barrel after every shot?

You can of course avoid this by greasing up your bullets and seperating them from gunpowder with a cotton wad and rifling actually becomes a viable solution.
>>
>>28304041
Technically yes but what they lack is the technology to create the rifled barrels. And yes cleaning is an issue but that is something that can be taken care of.
>>
>>28304107
But wouldn't that mean they'd be stuck using matchlocks then?
I mean flintlocks were invented after rifling or did they just skip that because of magic?
>>
>>28304122
Flintlocks were invented after rifling but they didn't always use them due to the fowling of the barrel. And the fact that without smokeless powder the gun line tactic doesn't benefit from the added range of rifling and shaped bullets due to the large amount of smoke
>>
>>28304179
Forming massive flintlock firing lines was relatively dumb tactic in the first place, much more so when there are living AoE weapons crawling all over the place.
>>
>>28304344
Which is why in all likely hood guns will be used in a sharpshooter role. Geek the mages and the commanders
>>
Hey guys today's updates may be delayed somewhat due to me going in the movies later but hopefully I have something before I leave.

You smile at the red head before shaking your head. “I’ll appreciate it but I’ll stick to the horses and besides its safer then traveling alone so I’ll have Guiche to keep me company.”

“How disappointing.” Kirche frowns as he mounted the dragon. “Then again it is rather refreshing to wait for a man then having them wait for me. How romantic!”

You could only give a half-hearted chuckle as the dragon began to take off the ground as it takes to the air but not before you hear her say. “I’ll will keep the light out for you and await our reunion, Darling!”

This girl….

You idly watch them fly off followed by Wardes’s griffin until they go out of sight and consumed by the darkness of the night. The adrenaline slowly wearing off you feel the side where the arrow pierced you begin to throb.

Sighing in annoyance and in slight pain you proceed to take off your cloak, tunic, and body armor in which you find a decent sized blood stain where you were hit. Frowning you expect the wound seeing it’s not too bad, the bleeding has lessen, and other then the fact that it looks worse than it is probably doesn’t need stitches.

You went into your kit and grabbing one of your two makeshift aid kits that you thoughtfully prepared before leaving. However, just when you were about to open it up, you look up to see Guiche apparently having finished his task of tying up the bandits that Half-Pint knocked out as he looks at you his frozen stiff.

"You okay Guiche?” You asked with a grin “You look like you seen a ghost?”

“You’re hurt!” he runs up towards you. “Where’s Louise? That was Kirche and Tabitha who were riding that dragon? Why didn’t you get treated by them?”

>What do you say or do?

>Do it our-self
>>

"This isn't anything more than a scratch, you girl."

Do it ourselves. Seems like a wound this minor just needs a little cleaning and disinfectant.
>>

>>

>>
>>28309982

"This isn't anything more than a scratch, you girl." You scoffed at the blond and your injury. “No need to bother the others about it.”

You open a small bottle of disinfectant (or vodka) and poured it onto the wound causing you to wince in pain before wrapping a bandage on it. “How about you? You alright?”

He looks to his feet his expression showing nothing but shame. “I wasn’t able to do anything. Nothing at all.”

“Nothing at all, huh.” You muttered gazing at the boy with indifference. Sure, he’s just a kid and had a different lifestyle then what you had at his age. He even caught on to what you suggested as a distraction to get away from the bandits. However, considering his boasting as a son of a military family and volunteering to help out in this mission in whom he froze up during a crucial point in a fight will cost him his life.

You just shake your head to clear your thoughts. “Just don’t let it happen again.”

You patched yourself up you put on your gear and clothes and mount your horse. Guiche shortly does as well in silence deep in his own thoughts and with Half-Pint’s horse in tow you begin to ride. It didn’t take very long into your ride that Guiche to break the silence.

“How do you do it?” He asked simply.

“Do what exactly.” You replied keeping your eyes on the road ahead.

“How did you kill those men?” The blond responded before pausing. “No, How you killed those men? You didn’t even hesitate or pause when you did so.”

You didn’t even need to turn your head around to see that Guiche shows a conflicted expression on his face.

“You’re not even that much older than me but how you took care of everything even if Kirche or Tabitha didn’t show up you would have had found a way to kill them all wouldn’t you?”

>What you say or do?

From Shàngxiào Zhāng to Shàngjiàng Liào
(An intercepted and translated message.

While I have the utmost confidence in your leadership and of all Shàngjiàng I must still question the wisdom behind our actions in this tiny spit of land. Even as a token of our support for the Soviets this goes too far. These people have the hardiness of a Mongolian and the stubbornness of a Russian. Every inch of ground we take is paved with the corpses of our soldiers. These soldiers are under equipped and under trained and yet they are able to push us back with every insane idea crazier than the last. I've had six tanks stolen. Their crews killed and bodies left to dry in the sun. An entire supply convoy was ambushed when a sheep herder blocked the road and stopped the convoy. They hid among the sheep. I've even had two Shàngwèi reported to have been killed with a musket. Some of the warring factions will even set aside their hated for each other long enough to push us back before going back to shooting each other. With respect we either need more forces or to pull out entirely.

"Guiche, I could give you a million different survival and military reasons, I could spin tails of heroism and love, and I could simplify it to the age old saying of "kill or be killed."

You kept on riding focused on the road and to the ravine up ahead making sure no signs of bandits are there for now. Just know that I am soldier. The way I've been trained... no, the life I have led is what makes me, just as yours makes you.”

“Then…” Guiche begins to speak up but pauses then speaks again only to pause once more several times before he finally says something concise. “Then how can I be strong? I’m the son of the Gramont family which holds a proud line of military service so one day I will be called to service not only because it is my duty but also as an obligation that all men of my family must carry.”

You hear a snap of the reigns and a quickening of a horse’s gallop and you turn to see Guiche keeping pace at your side. Though you think it wouldn’t be that hard considering you’re a novice at horse riding but that might just be his tendency to overact unconsciously showing.

“However, in our duel and against bandits I showed nothing but cowardice in face of my opponents.” You see him grip his reigns tightly and looking towards you. “As a man who will one day lead men into battle not because of my skill but by birthright and will ultimately tremble in the sight of danger in front of them. What should I do to correct this?”

You don’t reply right away as your mind currently absorbs the Blond’s worries trying to think of what to say to him.
>>
>>28327338

You could say to just become stronger through training and the rest will come naturally. Then you remember a friend of yours who always had a meek smile on his face and perhaps in another country would have lived his entire life and not even hurt a fly let alone another person. He had trained long and hard an in effort to protect his friends and became very good at killing which was only refined more through years of wartime service.

You also had seen him in the corner of his barracks shaking in the fetal position, his gun and machete on the floor while he muttered incoherently in the darkness. You rarely seen him smile after that even when he did his little hobbies or read letters from his sister who was abroad.

You could tell him to try and mentally prepare himself for such tasks and the rest will come naturally. However, you immediately remember that was something Maya did….
And you’re not sure that any sane society will accept such a thing let alone allow it.

“I can’t really tell you a clear answer on that.” You finally told him choosing the middle ground. “It is something you must experience firsthand. As for me I did what had to be done, and even if others would disagree, I did what I felt needed to be done. There is no use hesitating in the face of that truth."

Guiche only stared at you before looking towards the road ahead obviously contemplating on what you said.

First off give him a drink of vodka. "this is the first step my young friend, do you want me to teach you what i know?"

if he takes it, he shows promise, i think we should train him in the ways of manliness, and make him our apprentice

we can teach him about guns and modern warfare and have him help us with our work using his earth magic to find and shape metal for guns, bullets, machines etc,
with alot of hard work, firearms, and vodka, even guiche can become a mighty man

"Don't worry. When the time comes, you'll find what you need to do.” You told the blond before rummaging your kit. To your amazement while still riding and holding the reigns in one hand as the other pulls out your wineskin filled with the last bit of crude vodka that didn’t turn into cleaning disinfectant or failed Molotov cocktails. While you normally don’t drink on the job let alone riding on a feral animal in this case you can make an exception. “Guiche catch!”

You tossed your wineskin at the blond who fumbled with it before properly grabbing hold of it as he rides his horse. “What’s this?”

“This is the first step my young friend, A little liquid courage.” You said with a grin as Guiche took an experimental sniff and then sip before reeling back coughing.

“W-w-what is this?” He said between breath and coughing. “My chest is on fire!”

“Like I said courage or in this case courage from my homeland.” You replied back laughing at his expense. “Besides as I said before no need to worry about it now. We’re on a mission but when we get back you’ll have all the time to figure it out. You come from a have a military family right? So just go to them for advice if you need to. I bet your father and his father had the same worries at your age”

“…Yeah.” He nods before taking another sip followed by a series of coughing and grimacing shortly after. “Though do I have to drink this?”

“….Lightweight.”

However you don’t know which inn that they checked themselves in!

Your mind slows to a halt as you think where they might be and you come up with nothing before you turn to Guiche. “If you were to choose an inn where will you go?”

“This is a very well-known port-city but if I were to choose an inn it will have to be the Goddess’s Temple.”

“Good enough place to start looking.” You mumbled as you and the blond navigate through the city before finding yourselves at what appears to be a very fancy looking hotel made out of marble and formed from the earth itself. You look up to see a lantern lit up on one of the second story windows of the hotel and see a certain buxom red-head smiling at you.

You and Guiche wearily walked into the Goddess Temple and stepped through the doors you see Kirche in her nightgown which looked somewhat presentable considering her tastes. Still even when she jumped up to embrace you feeling the soft sensation hitting against your wound you notice the various men who were still up in this godforsaken hour stare at her. Guiche, who was just as exhausted as you drooled slightly as he behold the red-head’s assets.

“Darling! You returned to me.”

“Yeah, yeah nice to see you too, Kirche.” You replied to the girl suppressing the urge to wince. “You and the others managed to get here safely?”

She takes a step back from you and then nods as she brings her arms up to emphasize her bust a motion that didn’t go unnoticed by the few people still at the lobby. “We managed to get back here without a problem and the bandits mostly fled when they saw us in the sky.”

“I see.” You said relieved that no other surprises happened tonight. “Also where is Miss. Valliere? I thought she’ll be waiting for us as well?”

“She did for the first hour but whatever she had that made her so jumpy knock her out cold.” She explained as she pointed at a nearby bench. “One moment she was up then bang! Planted her head hard on the table.”

Ouch…

“Well her Fiancée took her in his arms and tucked her into bed. I saw everything myself.” She said before pausing looking towards the stairs where you suspect where the rooms are her tone rather bored. “Even took a place in the couch instead of sleeping with her.”

“You seem rather uninterested?”

“Because it is.” She stated bluntly turning back towards you. “Their engaged there should be more friction, more passion, more-“

“Whatever it is you do to the other boys?” You quipped at the red-head who looks back at you surprised before her usual smile returns.

“Oh, and what do I do to the other boys?” She asks as she inches towards you.

“Darling, you misunderstand how I do things.” She replied with a smile linking her arms with yours. “However, if you really want to know…”

“Thanks but maybe another time.” You cut her off as you gently disentangled your arm from hers. “Me and Guiche over here are rather tired from our ride here so I rather just hit the hay for now.”

”Oh you’re no fun.” She pouts before digging in her cleavage and pulling out a key. “But I kind of expected as much. Here’s the key to your room. I’m going to bed.”

After she hand you the key she immediately walks up the stairs and to her room, each step that she takes emphasizes her legs and hips as she departs from view.

Needless to say Guiche and the few men there couldn’t take her and were in a daze.

“Come on, Guiche.” You sighed as you slap the boy on the back snapping him out of his trance. “Let’s go to sleep.”

“Ri-Right.”

I'm sorry, for taking so long, RL is getting to me a bit and I'm not sure if I'll post tonight. i'll try to post something tommorow

If you can't post tonight then just make a new thread tomorrow. No sense posting only to have the thread die.

OP since the thread is pretty much dead at this point I should point out that you still need to fix the opening line.

> a place where the existence of magic and mages exist.

Plz fix this

>A place where magic and mages exits
>A place where magic and all manner of magical creatures exist.
>A strange world where children from noble families learn the art of magic.

One thing that I do notice lacking in your writing a bit is description. Just a few extra words to describe the surroundings really help to make the events seem more real, at least in the readers mind.

any of the above suggestions will work, just please fix it. When people look a the first works of the post they will notice that mistake.

Thank you, I'll correct it as soon as I can. I'll try to do as you suggested as well.
