You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

And you are hot as all hell. Not physically, but physically. Your dorm feels like an oven designed to cook schoolgirls. You rouse yourself up and quickly throw away your covers. Your body and pajamas are practically soaked in sweat, and you feel more or less like you’re about to die of dehydration.

September. The month that can’t decide whether or not it’s Summer or Fall.

You roll yourself out of bed and fall out onto the warm wooden floor. You need carpeting. At least carpets are soft.

You drag yourself over to the shower. You quickly peel off your pajamas and your underwear and step inside, feeling the sweet relief of no clothes. However, in your heat hazed and morning confused stupor, you get the excellent idea to blast the water on the coldest setting.

[1/2]
>>
>>28178021
[2/2]

That’s the last time you’re going to do that.

At least you aren’t hot now, but now you’re shivering, wet, and you’re without clothes. You look over your summer uniform: Blazer, button down shirt, tie, skirt, sweatervest (optional), and nice black thigh highs. You should convince Kitten to wear those, you’re sure she’d look cute with stockings or something.

Then again, you’re going to fucking MELT in your Fall/Winter uniform. This Academyship has not seen a hotter day since Midway. Of course you could wear your much less straining Spring/Summer uniform, which only consists of the shirt, tie, and comes with a lighter sweatervest and a lighter skirt. That might get you into trouble with the Hall Monitors though.

Then again, any girl who’s actually smart would prefer comfort over form. Pretty much like picking a tank over a car, of course you’re gonna take the tank because the car sucks in comparison.

Wait a second, that analogy doesn’t work.

Does it?

Whatever, just fucking pick something.

> Fall/Winter Uniform. Professional but it’s so fucking hot out.

Meh, soldier on.

You put on the Fall/Winter Uniform on slowly, dreading every inch of insulation. Now that you think about it, the school does have air conditioning. If you’re lucky, it’ll be so cold that you’ll run into Morgan Freeman narrating a documentary about penguins.

Knocks at the door come. “President!” It’s Nancy, who sounds exhausted. “You ready to go?”

“Yeah!” you say back. You get your stuff together and march on over to the door. When you open it up, you see your staff, looking like they just crossed the Sahara desert and that one other desert from Uncharted 3.

And this is before you get to school.

Lisa wipes some sweat off her brow and says, “Hey, Boss.” You quickly note that she’s actually been bold enough to wear her Spring/Summer Uniform. “Feeling the heat?” she asks.

“Pssh. Please, I’m from the South. Heat like this comes naturally.”

Nancy says, “I thought you were from D.C.”

“It’s still technically the South.”

Lisa shrugs. “Well, hopefully this heat isn’t because the South is rising again. Let’s get to school.” You all mutter agreements and head down to the street.

Nancy says, “Why is it so hot anyway? I thought Academyships didn’t have these kinds of problems.”

Lisa says, “We’re probably near the equator or something. You know how it is, line with the most direct contact with the Sun.”

You say, “I’m not looking forward to Tank practice then.” The hot cramped interior, combined with this kind of weather, you’re going to bake like a cookie. “We don’t have tank practice today do we?”

Nancy shakes her head. “Nah, I only scheduled it for Tuesdays and Thursdays. Unless you want to make changes.”

> Note: You can make changes to the training schedule at any time. However, training for days straight will eventually start wearing down morale. Think carefully.

Lisa looks as if she suddenly realizes something. “Oh yeah, Boss. I put out an ad for the BT-42 last night, and I got an email today from Walter Christie Tech. Say they want to buy it. Want to check out their email?”

FROM: Walter Christie Polytechnical Institute Tankery Program

Greetings from Walter Christie’s own Tankery Program! We noticed that you had a very rare tank for sale, the BT-42. We acknowledge that the BT-42 may not be the best tank, but we here at Walter Christie celebrate engineering and ingenuity from all walks of life, tanks included.

We’d like to offer you 20,000 Dollars for the tank. However, my treasurer advises not to spend too much money, so we’re also offering you a different option.

Our Tankery Unlimited Program happens to have a couple of spare tanks that they’ve retired. One of these is a Sturmpanzer IV Series I, which is unmodified, but unfortunately has fallen into a bit of disrepair. I’m sure a budding new program such as yourself needs new tanks, but I’ll ultimately leave it to you.

“So Boss,” says Lisa. “What do you think?”

Lisa nods. “Alright then.” She quickly types up a response to the email. “Say, is Kitten not coming today?”

You shake your head. “She’d melt like a witch.”

Nancy sighs. “It’s still so hot though, why are you wearing your summer uniform Lisa?”

“You just answered the question,” says Lisa.

“But what if you get ticketed by the Hall Monitors?”

She shrugs. “I’ll pay it myself. Besides, in this heat, I guarantee that at least 50% of the student body is doing the same thing I am. Including the Hall Monitors.”

Nancy looks over at you, giving up on Lisa for now. “So, President, anything you want to get done after school?”

Nancy nods. “I’ll try to have dinner prepared. We might be down there awhile.”

Lisa nods. “Nancy’s right. Those Blocks are a maze if you’re not a Naval Studies Student.”

Ramirez says, “We could get lost.” Lisa nods, pointing at Ramirez for her confirmation.

You wave them off. “Ah, girls, you’re overthinking it. Yeah, we might get lost, but it’s not like we’re going to starve to death.”

Lisa nods incredibly slowly. “… Riiiiight.”

The four of you make it to school, and just Lisa predicted, there are a fair number of students in Spring/Summer Uniforms to students wearing their Fall/Winter Uniforms, and even a couple of students in the Gym uniforms.

Gym uniform, why didn’t you think of that? That’s not technically out of uniform.

“Oi, you.” Well well, if it ain’t Officer O’Hara clad in her Fall/Winter Uniform sweating bullets. She quickly pulls out a notepad of tickets, writes down on it quickly, then slaps it on Lisa’s chest. “Ticket.”

Lisa exclaims, “What?! But you’re a trainee! You can’t give tickets!”

O’Hara holds up her badge with an indifferent expression. She apparently is too heat-exhausted to be angry today. “I was promoted. Now either pay the ticket or serve two hours of non-continuous detention. Your choice.”

Lisa crosses her arms, scoffing. She did say she’d pay it herself. But then again, she is your treasurer.

You say, “Oh come on, O’Hara, it’s hot. Half the people here are dressed like Lisa anyway.”

O’Hara places her hands on her hips in a power pose. “Rules are rules. We Hall Monitors have to enforce them, and the rules state that-”

O’Bannon walks over, clad in her Spring/Summer uniform. “Whassup, O’Hara. Ticketing people for their uniforms?”

O’Hara looks over, pissed. “O’BANNON YOU CUNT! I’m trying to make an example here and you’ve gone done and ruined it you bogtrotting hillbilly northerner!”

O’Bannon furrows her brow. “Hey! I’m not a northerner you cheeky little cunt. I just happen to prefer comfort over looks.”

“Well, Cunt Van Dyke, I’m sure comfort is a real fine thing, especially in Pinkerton’s dorm.”

O’Bannon points her collapsed collapsible baton at O’Hara. “Now listen here, don’t you eat my head off and call me a dyke just because me and Pinkerton are friends. Compared to you and little precocious crush on-“

O’Bannon says, “That was your first mistake, O’Hara. You trusted an Irish cop.”

“YOU CUNT EATING SPAWN OF A ROYALIST SHEEP! I SWEAR IF YOU-“

“Hey!” you shout. The two of you glare at you. You sigh, raising your hands up defensively. “Uh, just, calm down. Okay? I mean, I’m sure O’Hara wants the identity of whoever she fancies to be on the down low. Especially since we’re on Lafayette Girls Academy.”

O’Bannon shrugs, crossing her arms. “Fine, I don’t give a shite.” She looks over at O’Hara. “Next time you act the maggot with me and Pinkerton, I’ll eat your head off and let the rest of the force know, you follow me?” O’Hara puffs her cheeks, still blushing like mad. Welp, time for Math.

The minute you step inside the building, you feel like you’ve reached heaven. The air-conditioning actually works. Thank god, and it’s even at the right temperature too. Whoever’s policing the thermostat has their shit together.

You sit down. Funnily enough, you actually pay attention in this class. Today’s topic was factoring.

And that’s about everything you picked up.

Chemistry too you actually feel lively enough to not sleep through but unfortunately your attention span is only so well-made and the only thing you’ve picked up is that you shouldn’t make napalm in class. Lord knows, that Professor isn’t going to do that again.

English class as well rolls by pretty smoothly. Except with the conspicuous absence of Michelle DeWitt. Wonder where she is?

“Hey, Professor, where’s DeWitt?”

The Professor looks up from his attendance board. “DeWitt called in sick today. Said she might have the flu or something. Don’t worry, I’m sure she’ll be ready for your presentation on Monday.”

You nod. That solves that issue.

The rest of English class rolls by without much incident. You read off Le Mort D’Arthur in the Textbook, surprisingly awake as the rest of your class turns English into nap time.

ALARM

Time for lunch. You head to the Cafeteria and as you walk in, you catch the scent of some fried chicken. Aw yiss. You pick up as much chicken as you can muster then quickly find your usual table with your staff. You sit next to Nancy across from Lisa and Ramirez.

Ramirez says, “Naval Studies kids?”

You shrug. “You’re not wrong, Ramirez. Though, I hear Naval Studies kids get single rooms, compared to the freshmen who have to get doubles.”

Lisa snickers. “Oh, boy, I remember bunking with Ramirez. Quietest year of my life.” Ramirez simply shrugs, eating in favor of speaking. “Who’d you bunk with, Boss?”

“Kitten, of course,” you explain. “Nothing really changed honestly speaking, I was over at her house enough that her parents made dinner ready for me.”

“Nancy, go on. We’re all friends here.”

Nancy looks around, and then edges her face in closer, and all of you scoot in close as well. Looks like this is gonna be a real secret.

“Well,” she says, “my roommate was a bit of uh…” She seems to struggle over the right word. She groans, she hisses, then finally she says, “she was a fan of anime.”

Lisa looks confused. “… a weeaboo?”

“Is that the word for it? Is it insulting?”

“Yes.”

“Then I won’t call her a weeaboo. But… it was a very stressful year.”

You raise an eyebrow. “How so?”

“She kept speaking in very broken Japanese to me, she never washed that fake pink hair of hers, she always called me ‘Nancy-chan’, and worse…” Nancy sighs, an uncharacteristic expression of exasperation on her face, “… she’d watch anime porn without her headphones on.”

Well, this got awkward real quick.

Well, that’s definitely not worth discussing in depth.

You quickly eat up the rest of that fried chicken, then when the alarm for PE comes, you bid farewell to them. Time for PE in a nice air-conditioned gym-

“Time for swimming!” says the Coach.

Are you fucking serious.

Well, you suppose it can’t be worse than running outside, at least you’re in some water.

You quickly don the school issue one piece and line up outside with the rest of the students. Now that you think about it, going to the pool every now and again wouldn’t hurt. Hell, maybe it’d be a chance to teach Kitten how to swim.

“Bidwell, present, Bolter,” the Coach looks up from her attendance sheet. You look down the line. “Bolter, absent.”

Strange.

Welp, time for swimming.

Stug for me, but recover the super heavy first.

HAHA, TIME FOR WATER POLO

You set yourself up with a team of relatively competent students. As usual, they all elect as you as the leader. Thankfully though, you actually know something about Water polo, it’s basically kind of like handball or rugby, except you’re in a swimming pool.

You ask them, “So what’s the plan?”

That same student from last time says, “We assumed you had one.”

… Great.

So what’s the plan?

Nuts to it. They don’t have Bolter, there’s no way you could possibly lose.

You score goal after goal on them, advancing and swimming on their goal like some kind of mean fish that eats other fish. You tire of course, but with no athlete to carry their team, the opposing team is pretty much finished.

“Goal!”

15-2. Not bad. Not bad at all. Time to hit the showers.

As you wash away the chlorine and poolwater, you can’t help but think: where the hell is Bolter? DeWitt is excused, flus are a pain in the ass to deal with, but you’re sure Bolter of all people wouldn’t miss out on everyone in swimsuits tackling and grabbing at each other.

Oh boy.

Anyway, you get dressed up and head in for your next class. Theatre.

The Professor has to step out for a couple of minutes, so you decide on relaxing. It’s not like-

“PENIS!”

… seriously?

The usual five who always suggests playing Party Quirks are now playing the Penis game.

“PENIS!”

You lean back in your chair. Start playing some music in your head to drown them out. You close your eyes and sigh deeply. Relax. Rela-

“PENIS!”

Oh for the love of god.

In your theatre class, there are three kinds of people, the actors, the kids who want an easy grade, and the people actually genuinely interested in theatre. You are the last one. The other kids are mostly hanging in the back, talking amongst themselves, trying to ignore the five up at front yelling the male genitalia as loud as they possibly can in some immature game of chicken.

Their leader, Roberta Crane, looks over you, sitting alone. “Hey, want to play with us, Gertrude?”

You shake your head. “Unfortunately, I have better things to do with my time than to make penis jokes, Roberta.”

She scoffs. “Buzzkill.” She takes in a deep breath. Oh boy, this is gonna be a loud one. She turns around and yells “PE-“ right into Pinkerton and O’Bannon’s faces.

You keep as stonefaced and stoic as possible, not letting anyone see that you’re going to burst into laughter if they so much as sneeze in your general direction.

Roberta however, is terrified, “Oh… hi! What are you guys doing here?”

Pinkerton crosses her arms, unamused. “We heard there were dicks and we thought we’d stop by. I’m staring straight at one in fact.”

Roberta giggles. “Oh good one, Pinkerton, that’s really-“

“Shaddup,” says O’Bannon. Roberta quickly shuts up. She looks back at her friends, who all have assumed seats as if nothing is wrong. Spineless as always. “Anyway,” says O’Bannon, “you screaming Penis at the top of your fecking lungs is disturbing the peace and inappropriate language. That’s a ticket for 500 dollars and or two days of non-continuous detention.”

Roberta goes white. “W-wait, if I get detention, I won’t be able to star in the fall play!”

Pinkerton says, “You say that as if we give a shit.”

O’Bannon looks over at Pinkerton, “Oh, Alana, don’t be so heartless. I can sympathize! I love the arts! In fact, if only there was some kind of…” she rubs her index finger and thumb together, finding the words. “Some kind of… incentive for us to drop these charges.”

Roberta bites her lip, looking defeated. She pulls out her wallet. “How much?”

O’Bannon takes the wallet. “That’ll do.”

The Professor raises an eyebrow. “The what?”

“The Penis game. Don’t ask, anyway, they were taking bribes.”

The Professor looks over at Pinkerton and O’Bannon, who look unamused. “Is this true?”

Pinkerton and O’Bannon look at each other, then at the Professor. “Yep,” says Pinkerton. Huh, they actually admitted it.

“Well, I’ll have a chat with the Law Enforcement Studies advisors about this. Go on, get out of here.” Pinkerton and O’Bannon them promptly leave, but not before O’Bannon gives you the finger out of the Professor’s sight. He looks over at Roberta, “As for you, Roberta, I expected better from… actually, I entirely expected this. You’re not acting in the fall play.”

Roberta screams, “What!? But! I-“

“No buts.”

Roberta glares at you, then returns to her seat next to her friends.

You sit down, crossing your arms. Relaxation, ruined.

With that, Theatre class is over, and French class passes by without incident. You watch over your shoulder though, you’re only barely comprehensive of what Hall Monitors can do to you, especially if they’re on a student’s payroll.

> Storage

“Let’s try storage first.”

Everyone nods and you walk to the nearest deck entrance. As you step down into the depths of the ship, you can already feel the different worlds General Studies and Naval Studies kids inhabit. Cold, lifeless, and practical, compared to above deck where everything is pretty much the same as a regular town. You occasionally see a Naval Studies kid walk by, or run by, but there’s no time to talk to them. They’re probably on their shift.

Makes you wonder if you should have been a Naval Studies kid. Free tuition after all.

You head on down to the Storage bays, where forklifts, Naval Studies kids, and trucks are moving about. Large containers are being shifted from location to location. You decide on asking a Naval Studies Merchant kid on if they’ve seen a tank lying around.

“Tank eh?” she says. “Nah, don’t see anything that particularly looks like a tank.”

You ask, “You sure? I mean, we really do need to find it. It’s probably lying around here somewhere.”

She says, “You’re right about one thing. Some of this cargo is from the 70s, and we still haven’t offloaded it all. But, I suppose it probably is in here somewhere. Still wouldn’t know where to look, unless you want to try-” She snickers, “try Storage G.”

>>28181472

I'm arguing because some of the idiots here have let their hateboners control them to the point where they'll take any action to antagonise the Hall Monitors no matter what.

To be frank, it's stupid, illogical, and end with us losing far more money than we can afford as they'll go though any hoop to slap more tickets on us. For a bunch of corrupt cops, they've been pretty hands-off as it is, we don't want that changing into outright hate.

>>
> “Storage G?”

“What’s Storage G?”

The Merchant kid giggles. “Storage G is some urban legend, some Storage Bay that isn’t on the map. The reason nobody has ever found Storage G is because it’s so deep within the Academyship that you’re going to find World War II vintage stuff in there. Some say it has planes, others say it has the ghosts of all the dead sailors who served aboard Lafayette at Midway. Who knows,” she smiles smugly. “Maybe it has your tank.”

“Well, girls, I know where we’re going!”

All of them say in unison, “Storage G?”

You nod. “Yep, let’s do this.”

The Merchant kid says, “Good luck. You’ll need it.”

The four of you decide the best way to look for it is down. This is just like one of your pulp fiction adventures, hunting deep for the buried treasure of those who came before. You’re not exactly sure which story that comes from, but hell it was a story. Of course, this does take a toll on your energy with all those stairs.

Then, you’re suddenly face to face with one particular stairwell. One that leads into a very dark corridor. Everyone looks at you, trying not to look scared. You sigh. “Fine, I’ll lead.” You pull out your smartphone and turn on the flashlight app.

Oh Jesus, this is gonna turn out to be like that one Japanese video game Kitten made you play last year. You had nightmares for months.

All of you plod along the corridor, check in rooms, and stick to each other like white on rice.

“Uh…” Nancy sputters out, “Is uh… are there gonna be ghosts?”

Lisa says, “There’s no such thing as ghosts.”

“How do you know?”

Nancy doesn’t appear any less scared but at least she isn’t crushing your arm anymore.

The four of you continue walking along. Gradually, the corridor starts getting even more darker and rustier. You suppose that all those funding issues must’ve taken the Janitors first. Regardless, you’re at least on the right track. You come to a fork in the hallway, with one leading to a dark hallway, and the other leading to another dark hallway. Decisions, decisions.

BANG

Nancy screams, “WHAT WAS THAT!?”

“Or an axe murderer,” says Ramirez. Nancy goes white as a ghost.

Regardless, you decide to stay the course. The others follow, however reluctantly. Admittedly, your own breathing has started becoming a bit more rapid, you can feel sweat forming on your hands, your heart is pounding as you plod this dark corridor. With your flashlight phone, the only thing you can see is at most, three or four feet of rusty and dreary hallway.

The hallway then turns right. As you bound the corner, you’re suddenly assaulted by an incredibly blinding light.

Everyone screams.

“AAAAHHH!”

“WHAT THE FUCK!”

“WHAT’S GOING ON!?”

“WE’RE FUUUUUUUCKED!”

… you rub the blindness out of your eyes and come face to face with the Aviation Studies Crew, holding flashlights and looking scared out of their wits.

Jenny says, “We heard Storage G might have some SBDs lying around, or maybe the B-25H! A lot of stuff they were gearing up for the invasion of Japan.”

Marina nods, “And we just wanted to see if that was true. Might be worth it.”

You snicker, finding yourself at ease. Safety in numbers after all. “Well, how about we look together then?” They all nod in agreement. “Right, stay close girls.”

All of you proceed back to the fork in the hallway and to right where you came from. Marina handed you her flashlight, thus allowing you to retire your phone for now. It was now truly time to look for tanks.

“Let’s split up, gang!” You always wanted to say that.

Marina looks at you like you’re crazy. “Split up?”

You nod. “Of course. Just call each other once we find something, right?”

After a second of hesitation, Marina nods. “A-Alright. We’ll go right, you go left.”

“Perfect. Come on, girls.”

You split off into your respective groups. You go down the left corridor.

“President, did we really have to split up?” asks Nancy.

You say, “Well, we’ll cover more ground. Besides, what’s the worst that can be hiding down here? Aliens? Japanese who don’t know the war’s over?”

Lisa says, “Still, I’m a little on edge.”

You say to reassure them, “Relax, girls. I got this. We’ll find what we’re looking for, then we’ll get out and let the Naval Studies Engineers handle it.”

The corridor ends in some stairs leading downwards. You head deeper down into the abyss that is the Academyship’s bowels. The only sound you can hear is your own breathing and the occasional drip of something, hopefully just water.

Then, finally, you see something that indicates where you might be. A big stenciled label.

STORAGE G.

You’ve found it. You think. That label is right above a huge heavy duty bulkhead, with a gigantic valve next to that presumably opens the bulkhead.

You quickly dial Marina’s number then wait. And wait. And wait.

You check your phone. No bars.

Oh boy.

“We’re not done for, Nancy,” you say. “Someone’s bound to come looking for us. Or better yet, the Aviation Crew might actually find us, with some help brought along.”

Nancy seems inconsolable. Oh well. Suddenly, there’s a loud metal screeching. You look over to see Ramirez working on the valve like clockwork, turning it and raising the bulkhead up. Jesus Christ, you quickly remind yourself not to get into a fight with her.

Finally, Ramirez struggles on the pushing the valve any further, but there’s ample space to continue on. She gives up and claps her hands together, rubbing the dust and grime off her palms and fingers.

> Continue ahead into Storage G.

“That’ll hold right?”

Ramirez shrugs. “It’s 70 years old at most. I think it should.”

Welp, no guts no glory. You step inside and find yourself splashed into the darkness of a huge room. Your staff follows you in, staying behind you like a stray cat. You shine the flashlight around.

You find huge rows of SBD Dauntlesses, all rusting and rotting away in this long forgotten storage area. Farther in the back, you can make it large four engine bombers. B-24 Liberators perhaps? You continue on, searching through the huge rows of prop engine planes. All of them bear names of Squadrons long disbanded, some have pin up decals long chipped away.

Rather memorably, one appears to have a very worrying amount of bulletholes in it.

“So…” Nancy starts. “We found Storage G.”

You nod. You can’t quite comprehend the find yourself. Who knows what all these are worth. “Yep.”

You suddenly shine your flashlight on something. Something big.

You nod, snickering. “Yep, Nancy. We did it.” You run your hand along the side. Rusty as fuck, lot of grime, but hell, that’s something. It has a very very long gun, a somewhat low profile, but damn if it looked huge from the side. You wonder how the previous Tankery team could’ve lost this beauty.

Then again, it’s in Storage G.

> TANK UNLOCKED: T28/T95 GMC (VINTAGE)

“It’s huge!” Lisa says. “And that gun! That thing could probably put a hole in Superman!”

Nancy looks skeptically at it. “I dunno, from my experience, big things are usually very slow.”

Lisa shrugs. “Well, I’d look it up to see how fast this thing is if I had cell reception.”

So now that you’ve found your Superheavy tank. What do you do now?

That's all it needs to do. It one hit quits their biggest tank and then the Sherman/Panther roll in to cover or press the attack while the Stuart zips around calling out positions.

>>
>>28183050
I'm not sure if you understand the part where it's many tanks vs. many tanks and not your weird idea of one tank destroyer vs. many tanks.

it's a team game, Anon. The T95 has other tanks to cover it, protect it, scout for it, and corral the enemy for it.

Seriously man? I don't know if you're trolling just to troll or if this is your genuine displeasure but could you at least articulate it a little more?
>>
>>28183055
Well the Italians had a 90mm
>>
>>28183079
It did take two out and required an extremely unconventional attack to get a good shot from above, that still caused them to lose a third tank.
>>
>>28183092
If they know where it is, they can avoid it. And we are going to be the outnumbered team in most instances.

We won't always be able to magically make them head to the T95.

Besides, once they know we have it, they will either purposefully avoid it or seek to flank it.

“Welp, let’s wait here. The Aviation Studies Crew is bound to come looking for us.”

All of you sit down next to the bigass tank and you wait.

“Are you sure someone’s gonna find us?” asks Nancy.

You nod. “Of course. Either Aviation backtracks and goes the way we came, or Naval Studies comes by, finds that we found Storage G. Either way, we’ll be fine!”

You think a couple of hours passes. According to your cellphone it reads 7 O’Clock PM.

Nancy looks like she’s about to panic, Lisa looks stressed out, and Ramirez remarkably doesn’t seem to care.

Nancy looks at you, shocked. “What? Why?!”

“Marina and the others, we can’t just leave them down there.” You point at Nancy, “Nancy, go back up, get as many Naval Studies kids and other crews as you can once your cell reception comes up.” Without another word, she runs up the stairs. “Ramirez, go see if you can mark the way to Storage G.” Ramirez quickly pulls out a bit of chalk you didn’t know she had and starts drawing a line all the way there. “Lisa, let’s wait for the posse.”

You wait some half an hour for the posse, until, suddenly, you’re awash with Naval Studies students from all departments, Engineering, Navigation, General, Merchant, Electronics, etc. There must be at least a hundred by the time Nancy comes down, with a familiar face.

“Dory!” you say. “Good to see you again!”

“Ramirez also marked the line to Storage G for you in chalk,” you explain. Dory again nods.

“Benning, Tran, take the rest of these guys, head down there,” she orders. With that, everyone parts, leaving you with your crew, Dory’s, and two teams of Naval Studies Rescue and Naval Studies Navigation.

You proceed at a jog, making sure that you get to them before they accidentally hurt themselves or get themselves even more lost.

You admit, “I’m not a very smart person.”

“Clearly.”

You head down where you split with the Aviation Club, this time going down where they went. You’re now entering foreign territory. The hallway goes right, and soon you’re head down a ramp deeper into the ship. Thankfully, there is a lot more lighting thanks to the many flashlights and the Naval Studies Rescue team’s heavy duty floodlamps they’re mounting on their shoulders.

Jenny says, “The wheel thingamajigger might have snapped off when we tried to open it.”

You look down at the door and see that the wheel thingamajigger is still there, at least on your end. You gesture over to Dory, and she complies by spinning the wheel. “Well, we found your 52 scrawled out there and I just wanted to investigate. Brought along the Naval Studies kids to help out as well.”

A student from the Naval Studies Rescue team asks, “Is anyone hurt?”

Marina shakes aside her head. “Aside from our pride, no.”

You clap your hands together. “Great, then you’ll really want to see what we found at Storage G.”

All the Aviation kids beam. “What did you find?” they all ask.

And you show them.

Storage G is now filled with inquisitive Naval Studies Students taking pictures and selfies around the SBD Dauntless planes and the Liberator bombers. Floodlights and other forms of lighting have been scattered around to provide light.

You ask. “What’s a Po-2?”

“The world’s most produced biplane and the most famous one used by the Night Witches during the War over on the Eastern Front. Slow as all sin, but it got the job done, and hell the Messerschmidt always overshot it. One of the best planes of the war ever for a cropduster.” You nod.
