Hoshino snorts out a derisive little laugh. "You're kidding, right?" She says, looking over at Nakajima. "He says they found a Tiger below decks." She says rolling her eyes and getting back to work on the Lee's engine. "Listen, Whiteboy, even if Oorai had ever owned a Tiger, they would've sold it along with the rest of the good tanks years ago."

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and you know a goddamned Tiger when you see it- and the partially disassembled tank was most definately a Tiger- the gun and mantlet were unmistakable. Though you hadn't found Yukari, even after another hour of looking, you'd found... Well, something.

"It was a Tiger!" Miho says, annoyed at the dismissal. "You think I don't know a Tiger when I see one?" She says. "You think a Nishizumi doesn't know the shape of a German tank?"

Hoshino waves her off, but Nakajima is staring at you oddly. "You're sure it was a Tiger?" She asks, cocking an eyebrow at you and Miho. "I mean, it wasn't another IV or something?" You and Miho's look give her the answer she was apparently looking for. She laughs loudly. "Son of a... I thought it was a goddamned joke! A story! Something they tell the new club members to get them going!" She continues.

God, I remember the WoT promo when the movie came out. If you were playing a T-34/85 on the russian server, you could randomly be put into a special match of 15 T-34/85 vs a developer-driven White Tiger on Malinovka. It had some ridiculously high hp, increased view range and the gun had stats of a high-end german 128mm. Whole thing basically became 15 tanks trying to rush across the field and swarming the monstrosity while it was clamly picking them off one by one, often one-shotting them.

>>
It's your turn to be confused. "Wait... What are you talking about?" You say- well obviously she's talking about the tank you found. "You know something about what we found?" You look over and Miho, who's as confused as you.

Nakajima slides off the top of the Lee, landing on the ground. "I thought it was just some old story..." She repeats, shaking her head and smiling before noticing you and Miho are still in the dark. "Right, so years ago Oorai was pretty much disassembling it's Senshado program- which meant they were selling off anything anyone would buy."

You glance around the hanger. "So this is pretty much what was left?" You say. "Makes sense, considering the condition most of them were in..." Though still, you wonder why the Panzer IV and StuG- both perfectly servicible tanks with decent guns- would be left behind.

"Exactly." Hoshino says nodding. "Anyway, the story goes that the automotive club had been working on a tank for years- Blood, sweat and tears- restoring it for use on the team. And then the order came through that it was to be sold." She grins. "Well they didn't like that- not one bit. So one night, the tank just disappeared. Right out of the hanger!" She laughs. "It's legendary! Nobody would fess up to say where it went so the school assumed it had been stolen."

You nod along with Hoshino's story until something hits you. "Wait... How did they even get it down there?" You ask. "I mean, the hallways aren't anywhere near wide enough to drive a tank down, even if it was mobile..." You stare at Hoshino, actually feeling sort of bad that you might've ruined the legend, but she just grins wider.

"That's the great part..." She says, grinning even wider just thinking about it. "The entire automotive team supposedly snuck into the hanger the night before and completely disassembled it!" She shouts. "It's legendary! You have no idea the sort of skill it takes to do something like that! And in a single night!"

You blink. "But it'd take the entire team to move it down there too! And it's a long ways down there!" You say, still not entirely believing Hoshino's story, though parts do make sense- you wonder if any of the other tanks were hidden like they were by their crews, specifically to keep them from being sold off.

Miho shakes her head. "They wouldn't need to get them all the way down there- just hide the pieces around nearby and they could move it piece by piece for the next few weeks." She says in that tone of voice she gets when she's acting a lot smarter than you.

>>
>>28077712

I want it pointed out that whomever put that tank down there not only broke it down and moved it to the lower decks but reassembled it there too.

In a cramped, dark space. Without a crane, gantry, or any other tools that couldn't be fit through that door.

Whomever pulled that off needs his own tank. Not a tank to own, but a whole new tank, NAMED AFTER HIM.

"So..." You start, finally coming around to Hoshino's theory, "If we showed you where it is, think you could get back up here and in working order?" Whatever that monster is, it's got an 88mm gun on it- a legendary weapon that inspired awe and terror in the tankers that faced it. Hell, it still had the ability to inspire those feelings in tankers today! "That thing would be a huge boon to the team, whatever it is..." You say.

Miho gets to the thought before you do. "Do you know what kind of tank it was?" She asks Hoshino. "We know it's got to be something German and if Oorai never fielded a Tiger..." She trails off, looking at the mechanic.

Hoshino shrugs. "You gotta understand- this had to be twenty years ago! The story's passed down through years of clubs..." She snaps her fingers. "Why don't you ask that loader of yours?" She says. "Little Fuzzy'd probably know better than any of us what it could be!"

You rub the back of your neck. "Actually, that's sort of why we were down there..." You say, looking around. "We don't know where Yukari is and we thought she might've gone down there..." You grimace- you really do hope the girl isn't down there.

Hoshino's busy looking back at the rest of her crew before she looks back at you. "Listen, if we do what you ask and pull that thing out and get it running? It's ours- Our tank!" She points a thumb to her chest. "We'll fight for you, but that tank belongs to the Automotive Club. Sovereign!"

I don't think so, friends. Neither of those tank guns can punch through more than 200mm of steel, which the maus has EVERYWHERE...except the rear hull, which is angled.

The German's designed it to be invincible, and it was. The hull survived a scuttling charge going off INSIDE THE TURRET. Flimsy, it ain't.

Ignoring the sides, which are just skirts for the tracks (and therefore spaced armor, which laughs off APCR because the shell wobbles after penetration), the front is angled to about 30 degrees off vertical (effective thickess of nearly 400mm vs a horizontal shot) and the rear was sloped to about 15 degrees (effective thickness just under 210mm). With APCR, the The T15E1 cannon can crack 258mm of steel...perpendicularly.

So yea, Maus takes it up the ass or doesn't take it at all.

>>28079030
See
>>28079039

There is NO WAY we're penetrating that thing otherwise. The front is a no-sell, the sides will just slow it down. We have to get behind it. And it would have to be us or someone similar.

>MFW facing that Teutonic Titan head on.
>>
>>28078991
then, as long as its less than ~250mm effective (including the angling) we'll still penetrate, but the thing's as big as a house, kinda hard to angle that in a suburb. Unfortunately, I can't find any charts for our gun (T54), so I can't say what it would do precisely, all I know is that it's better than the one I linked by a fair margin.

>>
>>28079161
Elaborating on this, we don't need to outright kill the thing. We just need to disable it. M-kills or F-kills outta do it, or even, if we're desperate, just shooting out its eyes.

It's not a totally useless idea, right?
>>

>>28079170
>>28079172

Now you're getting it. It's a land battleship, slow as a boat but tougher than a mountain. To recap, since I got the angles wrong the first time:

>Front hull armor: 220 mm, angled to ~45+ degrees on both the upper and lower front glacis plate. Effective thickness: 400+mm. Impenetrable.
>Side hull armor: 200mm vertical SKIRTS (?!) over treads, with additional plating (thickness unknown) beyond. Effective thickness: 200+ with spacers. Immune to explosive shells, rigid shells will likely only damage the tracks.
>Rear hull: 200mm angled to ~30 degrees on both upper and lower glacis plate. Effective thickness: ~230mm. Nearly Impenetrable. Point-blank 90mm APCR only.
>Turret: HAHANO. Additional 50mm from hull thickness and a minimum of 15 degrees angling on all sides, with a spacer on the mantlet. Don't even try.

Better to just track it and run. with those skirts track damage would be nearly impossible to repair.

>>
>>28079396
>Auto
They're the long KwK43 L/71 88s, though, which have utterly obscene penetration and range.
>>
>>28079329
You might want to check your math there, cowboy. 45 degrees of sloping doesn't double the thickness. The upper glacias is 200mm thick, and at 45 degrees, that comes out to ~280mm.
The lower glacias is sloped at -15 degrees, which comes out to 207mm, the ideal shot from the front is the flat rectangle between the treads.
The roof armor is very thin compared to the rest of the tank, and the bottom of the turret frontally is one giant shot trap.
The skirts will only stop HEAT ammo, and last time I checked, we don't have any panzerfausts handy, so kinetic penetrators will go right through. Also, treads don't eat shells like in WOT so don't even try to argue that one.
The turret sides and rear are 222, and 215 respectively.
The thing is very killable taking into account that our HVAP ammo has 250mm effective penetration.

It was also slow, massive, and incapable of moving on anything softer than concrete. The gun was incredibly slow to reload, and the turret and gun barrel were more than twenty feet long, placed in the middle of an already twelve foot wide chassis, severely limiting turret rotation in any kind of city, I.E., the only place it's capable of moving effectivley. It isn't capable of crossing bridges, due to its sheer weight, and in the absence of another Maus, it's not capable of fording rivers either.

See that giant fuel tank on the rear? See how it makes such an inviting target from the rear or sides? Don't worry, its desil, so it won't exlplode if hit, but if that gets shot, that thirsty, thirsty V12 is useless.

The Maus was a poor design even under ideal conditions, and a near liability in combat, simulated or not.

I'll admit I didn't do the math myself, i plugged it into a 'relative armor thickness' calculator i found on the internets. But even by your calculation the front upper glacis is impenetrable, and the lower glacis is only a few feet wide. If the driver is even remotely intelligent she'll angle the tank to cover such an obvious weak (?) spot.

Roof armor, I won't argue. That's how it was defeated in the anime.

I wasn't trying to argue that the treads make side shots pointless. What I meant was we'd be unlikely to get anything more than a mobility kill.

And the turret is, as i said, angled. Do those numbers come out to >250?

And besides all this, It'd still be impractical, if not simply unwise, to attack such a slow beast from the front. Even If we could penetrate the front plates, why would we want to try? We'd have a 12.8cm cannon looking back at us, and I'm pretty sure that thing would break us in half!

YOu immediately stick out your hand. "Deal." She shakes yours and you don't let go for a second. "Do you guys even know how to run a tank?" You ask. You probably should've thought of that before agreeing, but honestly, how many of the other teams knew the first thing about tanks when they started?

"Commander, I just know what makes 'em work. I don't know how to ride them..." She shrugs, pulling her hand back. "We'll learn though- we've got an extra tank to practice on. She cocks her head over at the I-Go. "Ain't much in a real fight, but it'll get our feet wet- the automotive team isn't nearly as big as it used to be so it might take us a while to get your Ghost Panzer back in one piece..."

Well, at least the old I-Go will get some use- there's always been a long tradition of outdated tanks being brought back from the front to train new tankers. "Commander, are you making deals without my expertise?" A voice says from behind- and below- you.

"We found another tank." You tell Anzu, turning around to face your old adversary/Class President, flanked by her Vice President, a flustered looking Yuuzu, and Momo, the council's PR Manager. "And I didn't feel that we need to include the Automotive Club's eternal souls in the bargain." You say flatly.

Anzu smiles. "Please- I already own their souls by virtue of them attending school!" She looks over at the mechanics clubs. "Important to read the fine print!" She says with a smile. "What's the deal?"

Yeah, those are usually nonsense. Best to never trust them.

>and the lower glacis is only a few feet wide. If the driver is even remotely intelligent she'll angle the tank to cover such an obvious weak (?) spot.

The manoeuvrability of the Maus is such that the driver isn't going to have a great deal of choice in how it's angled, *especially* if it's in an urban area where the thing really needs to be.

Plus, we have an excellent gunner.

>incapable of moving on anything softer than concrete.

Actually, the Maus had ground pressure roughly equivelent to that of a M4- the German were really good at figuring out ways to distribute the weight of the tanks on the tracks.

You're probably thinking of the fact that it literally couldn't safely cross any bridge in the world at the time of its construction. The great part, though, is that the Germans- instead of making a lighter tank, just designed equipment for the Maus that would let it ford most of the rivers in Europe instead.

The allied field report I read mentioned a 20psi effective pressure, which is roughly twice that of the Tiger, and still a great deal more than the Konigstiger. I can't imagine anything with that kind of weight distribution being effective on anything softer than roads or hard-pack clay.

IIRC, they were intended to ford rivers in pairs, with one tank running electrical cables to power the other's transmission as it crossed the river.

Right, but this is nearly twice that pressure. Even if it was capable of moving over softer ground, it would move even slower than its already pathetic road-speed.

Tiger had a ground pressure of 0.735kg/cm2. M4 Mid-production had 0.96kg/cm2. KT had a ground pressure of 0.76 kg/cm2.

While the 1.45 kg/cm2 ground pressure of the Maus is not strictly ideal, with the fact that it has an enormous 5.86m ground contact length, it is sufficient for any cross country that isn't in heavy mud, loose sand or a swamp.

>>
>>28080111

You're not reading the number right.

Ground pressure is written in Kilos per square centimeter. Area is already accounted for. The Maus applied almost as much ground pressure, PER UNIT AREA, as TWO King tigers. It would have sunk into grass, let alone mud.
>>
>>28080124
>We may need to talk to Roy for a bit...
"Have you noticed your girlfriend is the Japanese version of your sister?"

Yeah, I don't think that's a good idea.
>>
>>28080147
I'm aware that the area is all accounted for. I felt it bore mentioning regardless.

>It would have sunk into grass, let alone mud.
And yet, it didn't on the testing grounds. it's not as immobile as you seem to want to think.
>>
>>28080147
>The Maus applied almost as much ground pressure, PER UNIT AREA, as TWO King tigers.

That's kind of fallacious, since the KT had a significantly lower ground pressure than an M4 Sherman, which was a lot lighter.

Note that it doesn't sound quite so bad when you say "The Maus applied almost as much ground pressure, PER UNIT AREA, as one and a half M4 Shermans."
>>
"Anzu, what do you really want?" You say, looking down at the Class President- she doesn't bother with you unless she's got some scheme and you'd rather just find out what is it so you can so no and get on with the rest of your day.

Anzu motions Momo forward. "Your crew is going to do an interview this afternoon." She says simply and formally. You don't like this already. Public speaking already makes you nervous- add in the, well let's put it politely, unpredictablity of most of your crew and you shudder to think of what could go wrong- you actually can't because Patrick and Richard don't work like that- if you can imagine it, they've already bored themselves with the idea.

You square your jaw and keep a neutral face- you can't let Anzu in on your thoughts here or she'll go for it even harder. "Who's the interview with?" You ask.

"Actually, it's an American reporter-" She says, shuffling some papers to bring up a letter. "Well, he's done reporting- he runs the Fists of Iron blog." You've heard of it- he does a lot of coverage of American and European tanking. He's got a Youtube Channel, a website, the usual stuff.

>"Absolutely not."
>"...And if I refuse?"
>"Can't we just have Miho's crew do the interview?"

He's a web reporter, not someone from a big press newspaper or primetime news channel. A fellow American interested in tanks that wants to talk to the American team repping in Japan's home turf sport of senshado. It's probably just gonna be a one-on-five convo that'll be recorded and put on a website, not sitting on a stage talking to an auditorium.

Nothing to freak out about in the least.

>>
>>28080111
>>28080216
Remember that the M4's were restricted to the roads of the Low Countries durin Market Garden due to their tendency to sink into damp fields upon any kind of acceleration. Something exerting 1.5 times that pressure would be even LESS capable when moving over similar terrain. This is also assuming a perfectly flat, perfectly even field with a uniform covering of dense grass with a well-established root system. Mother nature tends to take a giant shit on that kind of ideal terrain.

>And yet, it didn't on the testing grounds. it's not as immobile as you seem to want to think.
Testing grounds, as many have found before and many will find again, often prove to be wholly irrelevant for testing actual battlefield conditions. Even less so when the god-emperor of the Third Reich has a personal interest in ensuring a pet project's completion.

"Fine." You say flatly. You don't like talking publically- but it's just an interview with some Youtuber with a few thousand subscribers.

"Well, if you don't do then we'll just..." Anzu stops mid-thought. "Wait, you'll do it?" She says, blinking with confusion.

"Yeah." You say, sticking your hands in your pocket. "I'll do it."

You repeat- Anzu certainly was expecting a fight and you can tell; there's a definate look of confusion in her eyes as she nudges Momo, who seems just as confused. "Ah, yes, well..." She shuffles some papers around. "You'll be doing the first interview this afternoon during practice." Momo says stiffly. "Please try to make us look good- we'll definately need good press and Mr..." She looks down at the man's last name. "Ko-zu-lo..." She struggles. "Ko-su-lo-su-ki?"

You pull the paper out of her hands roughly. "Kozlowski..." You correct her, handing it back. "Jim Kozlowski."

"Yes, Jim Kozulo-" She gives up again. "The reporter could give us a lot of positive attention worldwide, especially in America." She looks at you. "Don't screw this up." And with that the student council turns and leaves- heading in the general direction of Duck team's Excelsior.

You look at Miho and shrug. "What's the worst that could happen?"

The girls all stood in rows, standing before their opposites. Before them was the Koala Academy Sensha-do team, themselves standing in rows organised by tank crews. Between the two sides stood Josh, who clapped his hands together and began to speak.
"Hello everybody, my name is Joshua, and most of you probably already have heard of me. I'm the captain of James Cook Academy's Tanking team. I'm here to make the transition of my crews easier for everyone and in order to give you Koala girls some tips for the upcoming tournament. We've brought with us three very valuable and very powerful tanks, and their crews, who have been using them for the past two years. We're a very experienced team, but we definitely aren't opposed to helping out a sister school like Koala Academy. Hopefully, with our addition, Koala Academy will be able to win the tournament.
"Now, in order to better acquaint you all, Miko and I have decided to throw a surprise practice match first thing!" There were gasps of surprise at that. "We'll then be better able to see what sort of strategies the other uses and how to best unite the team into one working machine. So get to your tanks! First team to have all its tanks knocked out loses!"
>>
>>28081192
Later, Alysha and her squadron of three tanks were positioned in a forest clearing, waiting for the signal for the practice match to start. Sarah had just finished coordinating radio frequencies with the other tanks, and turned up the volume as Joshua's voice came over the radio waves.
"Hey everyone, sorry for springing that on you all, but I'm sure you get the reasons behind it. Anyway, this is going to be a three-on-seven battle, with you guys at the disadvantage. Their team is made up of mostly crusaders though, with a pair of matildas, a Churchill III and a single ACIV Sentinel. Don't worry though; they only got the crusaders and the Churchill recently, so their crews are pretty green. We have experience and skill over these guys. Best of all, I'm sitting way back here watching the whole thing with a map and a radio, and I'm allowed to give you hints on their position every fifteen minutes. Aly, you'll have command over the team for this match, but I'll be the eye of god looking over your shoulder. The enemy positions will be ten minutes old though, so it's not completely accurate. It is, however, a massive advantage, and I'm sure we can win." There's a moment of silence. "Uh, you copy all that? Over to you."
"We copy, over," Alysha replied with a smirk.
"Roger. Uh, in any case guys, whether you win or lose, have fun. You'll be here for the next four months or so, so it's best to remember that these guys will probably be your closest friends while you're here. And win or lose, this is all for the benefit of the team. Don't hold back or anything, alright? Out."

>2/?
>>
A distant bullhorn sounded, and the tanks all took off from their marks.
"All tanks, this is lead," Alysha announced. "We're severely outnumbered here, but we still have the strategic advantage. We just have to stick together like we always do, and cut their numbers down. Our biggest threat right now is getting outflanked by their cruiser tanks, so let's find a defensible position where that won't be a problem. There's a hill at grid square alpha-bravo three-eight; it's at the edge of our playing field, and we can get good eyes on the edge of the forest. We need the long sight-lines in order to spot them before their six pounders get into range. Everyone copy?" Affirmations were given across the board. "Good. Lead out."

>3/4
>>
>>28081210
Twelve minutes later, and the three tanks had perched themselves on the hill and each of the commanders were buttoned out and surveying the forest with their binoculars.
"Nothing," Aly muttered to herself. She bent down into the fighting compartment and extended her hand to Sarah. "Radio." Sarah handed her the handset. "Has anyone found anything yet? Over."
"Nothing here, over," replied Danielle.
"Nada over here either. Over," said Murrie.
"Don't worry, girls, you're due for an intelligence report," Josh interjected. "As of ten minutes ago, the three crusaders were heading directly for your starting point, and were at about charlie-charlie niner-one. The sentinel was following some distance behind them, at charlie-charlie eight-three. The matildas and the churhill headed east and were about delta-delta niner-niner at the intelligence point. None of them headed in your direction. Out."
"So we waited out here for no reason?" Murrie pouted over the radio.
"Look at it this way, Murrie," Alysha said. "We've got an undefended flank in front of us, ready for exploiting."
"Urgent, urgent, urgent," Danielle interrupted. "Possible contacts at twelve o'clock, disturbed flock of birds."
Aly turned and quickly sighted in with her binoculars. She had no trouble finding the rather large flock of seagulls taking off from the trees ahead of them. "Shouldn't have opened my damned mouth."
And then the first crusader burst from the treeline.
