Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

Verlia and the queen agree that only Erebus's true might can do the job that must be done. With the future poised on a knife's edge, you traveled to the Palace of Shadow, Erebus's old base. First, you must subdue the final shard, and then set out to the place beyond Venia - from where Erebus originally came.

Your battle with Wrath tore open the palace and spilled out onto the snow-covered ice of the Frozen Hand, but you reigned victorious and united the final shard of your old self. In investigating old magic in the Palace, you saw a vision of what you believe to be Erebus's place of origination - a lone island in the Endless Void, far south past the edge of the world.

A sudden new arrival had you on your toes once more - but the Black Lady has proved a reasonable leader, and seeks new opportunities through your growing alliance. If negotiations go sour, you've pledged to stand at her side, but hopefully it won't come to that.

After she left, you continued to explore the palace, hoping to find clues or magics left behind by your old self. The altar in the inner chamber proved a tempting starting point, but it rejected you when you touched it, initiating a spell to destroy the entire palace. You were able to mitigate some of the explosive power by eating away at the apparatus, but the resulting blast took out your old home in a storm of shadow.

You decided to return to Haven, both to check in before venturing out after Adavan and informing them of your meeting with the Black Lady...

>...after your arrival back in Haven...

Auriel slams her hands down on the table. "You met with WHO?!"

<The Black Lady.>

"...elements," Ila whispers. "That must have been something. The strongest shadow mage in the world."

<I couldn't sense her at all, actually.>

"I wonder how she contains her strength."

Flint shakes his head. "Shadow...sometimes, you know, when..." He coughs to clear his throat. "When some people have been bit hesitant to stretch out a bit, you know you can count on me to back you up. But this time..."

Auriel wheels on him like a hawk. "Who are -some people-? Would that be ME? The sole voice of SANITY!? Yes, yes, Hyperion forbid I question us dealing with the Black Lady!"

Tyrael, standing behind her, puts a hand on his forhead. Cain cowers behind Ila. Hamil, as usual, stands with his arms folded, face blank.

The group is gathered in the still-unnamed black airship. The bridge is silent, though a few lights blink and hover over the various consoles and input stations. Your group is gathered around the table at the back of the space.

After combing through the halls and rooms extensively, they've concluded that no dangers linger within. Auriel's been having Haven practice evactuations to the ship. Most of the mages and angels have moved out of their temporary cabins and into the rooms in the vast crew deck altogether.

"Look," Flint says, raising his hands defensively. "I'm just saying, sometimes, you can be...you're..."

"I'M WHAT?!"

"...beautiful in every way, light of my life." Flint finishes. He tosses you an apologetic glance.

"...hmph." Auriel settles back on her heels. "Maybe...my intolerance has effected my judgement in the past." She glances at you. "But Shadow, for the sake of the Light and the Darkness both, you've gone too far this time. Yi Fang is already too much for Arland to mentally cope with. If we show up with the Black Lady, too, then we lose all credibility. She's hated. Actively despised. Do you understand that? Blackwater and Obis had enough trouble getting his people on board for an alliance with Archon; even Vellik might beg off from that, and he's desperate as hell right now, considering he doesn't even have a country."

<With three demon lords in play, we can't be picky about allies,> you say. <She is powerful and intelligent - and, I believe, a fair and wise ruler. We simply have to introduce her at the right time.>

"They'll burn us at the stake," Auriel says. "I have a lot of public influence, but not enough to save us from the fallout from that."

"You're looking at this the wrong way," Hamil says. He steps forward. "This is an opportunity for us. If we have to chose between Arland and the Black Lady, I'd rather have her."

"Don't sell us short," Flint says.

"I'm not selling you short. I'm just saying, even with the Windburn, your father probably couldn't defeat her." Hamil gestures at Auriel and Tyrael. "Even Sandalphon avoids confrontation with the Black Lady."

Auriel shakes her head. "He avoids confrontation because the last open war open a hole in the nether." She looks at you. "Don't you remember, Shadow? The Lady had no problem summoning a demon lord of her own when Archon and the Ring City stood against her. Its curse was what afflicted Michael."

<Against two enemies such as that, I'm not surprised she went to such lengths,> you say. <But in the end, she recognized that the fighting was growing out of control and agreed to an armistice, didn't she?>

"That doesn't mean we can trust her."

"Do we have the luxury of choice, though?" Tyrael asks. "I mean...as for us, and Haven...if we don't have someone big backing us, realistically, the Ring City would roll over our fort here. The Black Lady could be that someone."

"I'll take that under advisement, lieutenant," Auriel says.

"I don't know, Hamil," Cain said. "I think we're better off without her. She's too big a variable."

"I think that without her, we're nothing," the spirit mage counters. "We already know we can't trust Yi Fang as far as we can throw him. If Shadow vouches for the Lady, that's good enough for me."

"...I don't think we have enough information to make that kind of decision," Flint says.

Your group seems divided. Auriel and Flint are against it; Ila and Hamil are taking your side. Cain and Tyrael seem on the fence.

How do you convince your allies to accept the Black Lady?

>we'll act as if her arrival is a surprise to us as well, and then convince Arland to accept her as an ally out of desperation

This is the safest option. For us and for The Lady.

We promised not to reveal her story, but... these are our closest allies, I'm torn between telling and convincing them and keeping our word.
>>
>>28070802

and tell the crew to keep it quiet around fang
>>
>>28070802
>inform them of the Black Lady's personal history and possession of the Staff of Winds
Just Auriel. Telepathically. She's the only one we really need to win over here, and the less people that know, the better.
>>
>>28070886
we only promised to let her reveal herself to fang
>>
>>28070802
Not her personal history, but certainly the history of her involvement with Vampiria. Her rise to power, and how she handled it, speaks well for her.
She also hasn't exactly been the aggressor, in much of the past conflict. And the authority on that (Ring City putting out the official word) isn't exactly reliable when it comes to information concerning rival nations.

A reminder that Shadow has been nothing if not honest in his observations and evaluations of people is in order, and we believe her to be good people when it comes down to it. And good people is something this world sorely lacks.
>>
>>28070902
We told the black lady that we wouldn't tell anyone, so lets no go back on that now for our own sakes.
>>
>>28070922
Also, we should consider this and refine it a bit. Auriel really is the sticking point, I think. And if there's anyone I trust to be discreet, it's Auriel.
>>
>waiting on that dude to write

>waiting on consensus

>playing fire emblem

I like the idea of informing only Auriel, telepathically. I hadn't thought of that. Would be interesting...

In any case, please continue.
>>
>>28070802

>don't bring the Lady to the summit at all; rather, simply have her arrive with her forces when she is needed

Tell them about how she came to power, how she handled conflict and that she does not spread vampirism. Also say that we vouch for her, as she has showed character.

Auriel shouldn't be judging people like this, she was wrong about the shadow when she met us and she is wrong again.
>>
>>28070956
We did tell her that?

Then can we just say that she promised us to keep it a secret, but there is a reason we trust her?
>>
>>28070802

I second the idea of only informing Auriel. She wouldn't let that information slip.
>>
Maybe introduce her to the people of Haven and then Blackwater and work our way around till everyone is cool?
>>
>>28070802
>>inform them of the Black Lady's personal history and possession of the Staff of Winds
Let's also tell them that left Fang because she thought he asshole
>>
>>28070802
>inform them of the Black Lady's personal history and possession of the Staff of Winds

Also tell them we accidentally asploded the Palace of Darkness.
>>
>>28071083
Well let's just tell them the second thing.

That apparently our own temple no longer recognizes us as Erebus.
>>
>>28071034
Eh we don't need to tell everyone.

Sway Auriel and the rest will likely follow.
>>
So are we thinking
Publicly:
*Melody's rise to power, why and how she handled it
*Her desire for legitimacy as a nation, rather than antagonism and expansionism

To Auriel:
*Melody's possession of the Staff of Winds
*Her past involvement with Archon and what exactly she thinks of Fang's policies (as support for her not being a shit-eating cunt like our good friend the Archmage)

And I'd get a kick out of offhandedly mentioning that we accidentally Erebus' palace, but I'm not sure if now is the time. Then again, when is the time, so fuck it - throw that in.
>>
>>28070802
Why don't we get Auriel and Flint to meet her in person?
>oh right, hundreds of miles away...

If we tell Auriel about her history as Melody then we might be able to convince her via how upset Melody was with Fang and his methods, and how she chose to rule very differently.

But Auriel has a history of a big mouth...
>>
>>28070802
Tell only Auriel that the Lady is Melody, but tell everyone about the palace explosion and that the Black Lady is a fair ruler, doesn't spread vampirism, etc. That the Lady's goal is to keep peace on her lands.

My family just arrived, so I'll leave a vote here and take it up in a few hours.

FYI, votes in the first five minutes count, since I won't be around to cut it off.

Vote 1:
>inform them all the Black Lady's handling of her sudden rise to power, her curbing of vampirism, and her current goals. Tell only Auriel the specific personal details.

Vote 2:
>tell them all her public and personal history

Vote 3:
>don't bring the Lady to the summit. Call upon her when needed.
>>
>>28071210
I think that if we tell Auriel we should get her to PROMISE ON HER LIFE that she will not reveal that detail, because of Melody's previous relationship with Fang.

I think she'll understand well enough to keep her trap shut.

Black Lady being Melody is going to come out if we communicate anything about the Staff, I think. We discussed the "message" Melody left on Xile with Auriel, IIRC. And if we didn't discuss the possibility of this unknown, extremely powerful Shadow Mage being the Black lady, Auriel will deduce it soon enough once she's aware that BL has the staff.
That saidd, I refer to her as Melody in my post because it's shorter than Black Lady - not because I'm dead set on revealing her personal identity or anything.

So who is up for trying to finish the spirit tree.
>>
>>28071328
Seems interesting, but what kind of huge power we'd have to unleash in order to do that?

I think it's best to say that our palace regarded us as a "corruption". That means we are seen as an enemy of Erebus by his old devices, which is very good info to Auriel and Flint.
>>
>>28071389
Yep. I think we should either buy mind crush right now or spirit lash to see what it reveals.

Mind crush just sounds better though.
>>
>>28071328
"So how was the Palace of Shadow, Lord?" Ila wistfully asks, awe evident in her voice - the mere concept of walking those hallowed halls enrapturing her.
<Hm? Oh. It was... dark. Cold. Very... Erebus-esque.> You reply nonchalantly.
She presses you, "Yes - but what was it like? to be in such a place of power? What magnificent truths did you discover? What secrets did Erebus leave behind?"
If you had a face, it would be deadpan as you look her straight in the eyes. <I would not know. I followed my standard procedure, when encountering the toys Erebus left behind. I ate it.>

Stunned silence.

"You... ate it?" Ila's face transforms from confusion, to shock. Your comrades - Auriel, Tyrael, Hamil, Cain - are also rendered speechless.
Beside you, Flint guffaws.

>>28071389
We've got quite a bit to go through for that sweet new thing anyway, and Spirit looks like the quickest to complete as well as being pretty useful. I support it.

I'm partial to trying to finish up the eartyh tree since it has 3 great abilities that i realy want.
Machina Vita(we need to upgrade our construct automation while we are at haven)
Machina loqui(makes our robot smarter and actually gives us a chance to handle City 001 and 002)
And
Corrode(this affects defenses and would work wonderfully with a DW,Erode combo)

All right guys, I was bored and decided to brainstorm a bunch of name ideas. Also, feel free to point out the shitty ass ones (all of them) but we should try to come up with SOME names competently.
For the Ship:
Voidhammer
Nyx
Nox
Nightblade
Heart of the Void
Do'Vak
Alduin
Furlinastis
Vul'Kin
Vokum
Tarterus
Hades
Regnum Umbra
Haven
Ungoliant

Names for ourself:
Umbreon, Abby-Summon
Umbreus
Vulon
Oberon
Penumbra
Ebon
Leath
John Shadowborn

Yeah, some of the names are silly, or don't make sense. I was trying to find names that fit in with SM's existing naming conventions. I used a bunch of Greek or altered greek names and words for shadow, void, and oblivion. Also I was trying to call our airship a shadow dragon in some other language, but I didn't feel that the latin one fit, so I did what SM did for naming the shadow dragon we've already seen, and threw in some of Skyrim's dragon language words for shadow.

P.S. I know that most all of the names are terrible. I just wanted to see if we could come up with any good names for shadow and the airship.

Voting 1. Having the context of the Black Lady's rise to power should help to convince them. They do raise valid points, I'm guessing Arland and Yi-Fang won't be happy about her at the summit. I think if we are planning to bring her to the summit, they need to know the general context of her rule too.

We were rooting around in his head. It would have been a simple matter to extract the information. Then, since we were going to be altering his memories anyway, we could make him forget anything about it.

Even if it had some sort of tracking device, it's moot if he doesn't remember there was one.

As far as ship names go, unless you're naming it after a geographic locale, you generally want your flagship to be called something either impressive or symbolic in some way.

I'd probably want to name it Penumbra (the faint illumination at the intersection of light and darkness) or Horizon (the far-off point at which the sky and earth seem to intersect, as well as being historically relevant in ship navigation) or something else that's both unconvoluted as well as symbolic and balance-y.

>>28072454
>On current topics: do we intend to give Fang a hint about Melody, or we just gonna say fuck him?
Let him wait on it. Melody more or less asked us outright not to tell him, and on top of that, we want his reaction when they meet again to be genuine, rather than giving him ammunition as well as tons of time to get up his own ass with plotting as to what he's going to do when he meets her again.
>>

>>
>>28072488
>He has pictures and a crew he would find out some one was fucking with his mind once he and other people notice his missing hat.
How do you not understand this?

Mind magic -> "Oh, my hat got lost / destroyed / whatever -> IF: enchanted to be trackable THEN: Make Vonnegut forget the tracking enchant exists.

We trusted the mind magic to make him forget that we're Erebus. We don't trust it to make him lose hat?
>>
>>28072560
He's talked about the war council, not the Archon council.
The war council will take place elsewhere, Fang is the representative (as the current Arch Mage).

(That's my understanding of the situation, anyway)
>>
>>28072562
he was willing to give a famed sword shard of evil for it, i'm sure he would try something about the hat.(but this is an trivalent talk.)
>>
>>28072589
I meant having Fang and the Black Lady talk in person long before the war council is brought together.
If they have any arguments against each other it would be best to settle them before everyone meets, especially because Archon's forces are what primarily man the wall.
>>
>>28072614
Plus fang might need to pull some strings.
>>
>>28072614
>add
Because Archon, despite being spirit, is basically the most opposed to the Black Lady to ensure their "alliance" with the Empire of Light.
If they can agree to some terms together then the weight of their cold war can be turned on Kan-Abar.
>>
>>28072614
My only fear would be that an airing of personal grievances might break the deal before it is struck (where if they first met at the war council, they would not bring up personal issues at all because Business).
If we want to do it that way, though, we'd need to get Melody on board. She seemed pretty set on the Surprise route.
>>
>>28072658
well she is really hated and its better to get fang on her side.
>>
>>28072658
Yeah that was the next thing I was trying to think of how to solve. It's just like a shadow mage to want to surprise everyone.
But I really think it would be best for them to work something out behind the backs of the war council beforehand in order to have some sort of a mutual assurance in how Vampiria gets involved, and that if they're on each others sides ahead of time they can accomplish a lot more just in case the Alliance doesn't go the way we plan it.
>>
>>28072614
This idea. I like it.
>>
>>28072734
>add
Because the whole alliance thing is still pretty up in the air, and a step towards an Archon that isn't against Vampiria basically ensures a union of powers that are nigh unstoppable.
There's some other cross comparisons but I mostly came up with that because they're the strongest of the potential allies we have, and it would be better to get them to work together sooner than later- As Archon/Vampiria are the only real oppositions to the Empire of Light.
>>
>>28072678
>>28072734
Sorry, didn't mean to give the impression that I was against it. I quite like the idea - it's just that I want to explore the potential negative consequences. Doesn't hurt to be thorough, you know?
>>
>>28072818
I didn't think you were against it at all actually, you came across as pretty supportive.
Anyways I'm working on language to convince her to meet and speak with Fang in person about their war circumstances. And of course convince Fang of the same... shame I'm shit with dialogue.
>>
>>28072818
>>28072853
Those last five words were a hint, by the way.
>>
>>28072853
Eh, I dunno.. I'll throw something together real quick, I guess, and that can be revised/rejected - should we choose to pursue this as a group.
<Melody. I've successfully convinced most of the leaders to give the Black Lady a chance to appear at the summit - without killing you.>

<I do have concerns, though. About Fang.>

<There is much that has happened between the two of you. Before you make a point of it, I will abide your decision on this. But hear me out.>

<If, or rather when, Fang recognizes you, it will put a strain on negotiations wholly unrelated to your title. I would not want something... delicate to be dredged up, in front of others, where neither of you is comfortable dealing with it.>

<I propose we set up a meeting - before the actual summit. Considering the numerous disputes along the Vampiria-Archon border, there's reason enough to do so regardless of your past. But it would also give you an opportunity to see Fang yourself, somewhere he won't be required to wear the mask of an Archmage, should he choose to discard it.>

<So, there it is. You'll get to evaluate Fang - uninfluenced by anyone else - as well as get your chance to surprise or humble him without it threatening the summit meeting.>

Long-winded and overly verbose, as I tend to be. It's a starting point.

>>
>>28073211
Well, I can write something up. But to be frank, I don't think Fang will need much convincing. Once he's aware that the Black Lady will be attending the meeting, I hardly think he'll turn down a personal meeting beforehand to hash out their various border disputes. Hell, I think he'd be eager. He never struck me as being enthusiastically anti-Vampiria. Always struck me that he viewed it as a chore, assigned to him by his angel not-overlords - who he's already eager to fuck over.
>>
>>28073274

>>
>>28073274

In addition, Fang considered himself the linchpin in holding Archon's nobility together. He should be able to associate what the Black Lady has done by uniting the northern tribes...

Not to mention it was his own science project that created the Vampires, and Melody has inadvertently become the pinnacle of his failed experiment...
>>

Could we just tell him that we know something about the Black Lady that convinced us of her trustworthiness, but she asked us to promise not tell anyone?
>>
>>28074226
We should probably be more careful about how we word promises in the future.
For now, we can either compromise one promise completely, or compromise a few promises partially. After the summit is a better time to tell Flint - Melody may or may not release from our promise at that point, but flint knowing AFTER wouldn't impact her trust, I feel, nearly as much as if he knows BEFORE and she finds out.
>>
>>28074294
Flint isn't gonna gain much from knowing this is my point, it's just unnecessary.

It's the equivalent of dredging up someone else's personal history (who they don't know) to your friend in a really petty way. You're not even suggesting it as a method to convince him of the alliance or anything substantial.
I think I'll ignore you from now on.
>>
<...there are reasons I put my faith in her,> you say. <She told me quite a story - a story of how she came to rule the land called Vampiria.>

You go on at length about the Lady's history; her origin as a scholar, though you don't say from where. She retreated to the far north to study your old palace, and then found herself wrapped up in the internal affairs of the country she'd made her home in. One thing led to another - a following turned into a civil war, which turned into real war, which turned into a goal to unite the north and finally achieve peace between the fractured nations so as to stop the conflict once and for all.

And then, her isolation and alienation by a Ring City that feared the power of a Shadow Mage, and her forced stand against the angels, and Archon.

Tyrael and Cain seem greatly swayed to your side by the speech - even Flint is wavering. But Auriel's arms are folded, and her lips are set in a frown. "Shadow, it all sounds well and lovely put like that - but remember what it looked like from our side. A powerful shadow mage on a level comparable to Sandalphon came out of knowhere and seized the entire northland. What if she told you a load of bull? What then?"

<...could I speak with you in private?>

The room pauses for a long moment. Auriel lowers her arms and nods. "...alright." You follow her behind the table, into the hallway behind the bridge of the airship. She turns back to face you. "What do you have up your sleeve? It better be fucking good."

<It is good,> you say. <Remember the mage, Melody?>

"That bitch from Xile? Sure."

<She and the Black Lady are one in the same.>

>con't
>>
>>28074341
It would make him look ike more of a viable canidate for future king of arland
>>
Auriel stands there for a moment, not reacting. And then the implications slowly dawn on her face. She licks her lips, opens her mouth - then she takes a breath and settles back. "...the staff?"

<She has it in her possession. But that's not all.> You then tell her the real story - her relationship with Yi Fang, and their conflict over his changing attitudes to rule, mostly due to his time in the Archonium. And then her leaving Archon after they fought, and then exploring Xile alone. Her transformation into a vampire, and subsequent retreat to what would become Vampiria.

Auriel sits on that for a long time, then finally arches and eyebrow at you. "Unbelievable. Yi Fang's old flame, Melody, is the Black Lady. Who would have guessed?"

<She didn't say anything about romantic attachment, but - >

Auriel flaps a hand at you. "For element's sake, Shadow, read between the lines. When a woman tries to get a man to chase her, it's not because she dislikes him. It's because she's trying to get him to wake up." Auriel sighs. "This makes things more complicated. This is really just..." Her expression fades. And then her face lights up like white Light. She rubs her hands together and cackles. "...this is perfect."

<...I think I'm missing something, here.>
>>
"Shadow, don't you get it?" she says. "We have leverage over Yi Fang. We have something to reign him in! That's been my biggest worry the whole time - that Fang would start scheming for right after we'd gotten rid of the demon lords, and that his very idiocy might prevent us from getting that far in the first place. But if Melody can drag him back to reality, or at least throw him off for a time - then damn. We've got him right where we want him. Useful in stopping the demon army, and too off-balance personally to get into his bad habits."

<She asked me to keep it a secret from everyone,> you say. <She isn't Melody anymore. Just like I'm not Erebus anymore. I couldn't betray that trust. I only told you because I needed you with me.>

"So she wants to do it on her own terms, huh." Auriel folds her arms behind her back. "Fine. I won't make a move on Fang...but. Here's what we do. She obviously respects you a lot, right? As the former Erebus...Shadow...thing...well, whatever the hell you are now, right?"

<...uh...right.>

"So, at the summit, we play a bit of matchmaker," Auriel says. "You encourage and cajole her when the mood is right. Then we lock them in a room and walk away. Problem solved."

<Are you sure? If we get involved, we could be setting off an very nasty explosion. I've had a bad experience with that lately, and - >

"Leave it to me," Auriel says. "Besides." She narrows her eyes. "You want me on board for this? Then we have to use this wonderful tool we've been given. Otherwise, I don't want the Lady anywhere near us and ours. Capiche?"

What is your response?

>...alright. I hope you know what you're doing.

I want some of whatever you're on.

>>28074383
Yi Fang is already sort of on the path to being able to give up the addiction to plotting, mostly thanks to Abby. We did a reasonable amount to convince Melody as such during our first meeting.

The groundwork for all this shit Auriel wants to do is already there. We actively want Yi Fang to start back toward being a reasonable person again. We want him and Melody on good terms with each other so that the summit doesn't go ENTIRELY nuclear when she shows up.

And most of all, we want Yi Fang to start to want to reign Yi Fang in; not just us having something on him in order to keep him in line. That's not a sustainable situation, and would only serve to cause tension in the future.

Why does Auriel want to hold it over us like some kind of hybrid Yi Fang-tier plot/sword of Damocles?
>>
>>28074604
>Why does Auriel want to hold it over us like some kind of hybrid Yi Fang-tier plot/sword of Damocles?
The same reason SM decided to gleefully not place the >write-in option there, at least that's my guess.
>>
>>28074604
Yeah, we should point out how like Yi Fang Auriel is being right now. I like that...
>>
>>28074642

>>
>>28074604
Hey, SM has been kinda building Flints public opinion up like crazy and Arland is the only major country (besides atlantis, and even then there is leviathan) that we haven't gotten the support of. and he is the prince with the royal familys honor/reliability brought into question. Seems like the next logical step
>>
>>28074604
>Why does Auriel want to hold it over us like some kind of hybrid Yi Fang-tier plot/sword of Damocles?
Because she's lived in ring City for 700 years and he been dealing with plot and intrigue and Yi Fang the Indomitable Douche longer than we've been sapient.
She's not used to doing things the Shadow way - which is to shove everything together and make it work out.
>>

>>
>>28074699

>>
>>28074604
Yi Fang already wants to reign Yi Fang in, he just isn't in the position to do it.

IE: if there were no wars Fang ould probably stop all his plotting and shit and settle down. or if that wasn't enough for him he would raid the timorian deep or some shit
>>

<I don't think he needs to be reigned in,> you say. <That's what Abigail is doing. He's actually reigning himself in, for her sake.>

Auriel gives you a flat look. "That's exactly it, Shadow. You're talking about a man capable of intentionally allowing himself to be passive-aggressively subverted by his own niece to ensure her rise to power. Why you trust him at all is more than I can understand."

<...I feel like if you'd seen the look on his face...maybe you would.>

"Anyway...you see what I'm saying, right?"

<I guess it's something to keep in our back pocket, just in case,> you allow.

"It'll be in my front pocket."

<...just, talk to me before you do anything, alright?>

"Fine."

You slip the communication rod out of your pocket. <She gave me this to get in touch with her...and I've been thinking that it might be better to have her and Fang meet before the summit. Hash things out. But I also need to let her know that we'll be having her on board.>

She eyes the device and nods. "I guess you should talk to Fang before you use it. I don't care to talk to her. You can represent us just fine. Even if you do have a knack for making ferocious friends. But actually - do you think he'll recognize her?"

<Well, I didn't, and that was going by a projection we saw on Xile,> you say. <It's been years since then. She's...changed quite a bit.>

"You would know better then me. Well, I've had enough intrigue on my own airship. Let's go." Auriel marches back down the hallway and kicks open the door to the bridge. The group jumps slightly. Everyone looks up with expectant expressions. "Alright, here's the deal," Auriel says. She plants her fists on her hips. "As far as I'm concerned, the Black Lady is in."

Flint looks between you and Auriel. "...how did you convince her?"

"He talked dirty to me."

Flint almost falls over as he splutters for a response. <I don't remember that part,> you say.

Auriel grins, then steps over and kisses Flint on the cheek. "You're so cute when you're struggling to take a joke. I couldn't resist."

"You have a way with words, Shadow," Ila says.

"Yeah, right up until he starts trying to name things," Auriel says.

Everyone has a laugh at your expense. You feel a bit miffed that they're making it some kind of running amusement...but then, with smiles on everyone's faces, you can't bring yourself to stay annoyed for long.

What do you do now?

Yeah no we need ML for it to be used for that i vote we get this

We have time to do the Adavan+Obis+Hero Worshiper sidequest, and it's unlikely to endanger our plans. I just want to do more talking, is all.

<Auriel,> you say, <I mean to go out after Adavan and Obis. You remember the prophecy.>

The humor drains from her face quickly. She nods. "I was going to suggest that, actually...Fang can wait. If Obis bites off more than he can chew..."

<Where did they go? I don't really have a heading.>

"Aurora," she says. "At least, that's what I think, based on what Tyrael told me."

Tyrael looks sheepish. "I would have told you at the time, Shadow, but actually...I didn't know. Only some few highest even knew it was more than a rumor."

<Wait,> you say. <What's Aurora?>

"Leviathan's home," Auriel says. "We never located it, but apparently Logi drove Leviathan out of it. Or something. The details are hazy. It was arranged to happen quickly, isolate them...the defeat of the lesser elemental lords, that is. Logi and Raijin were meant to isolate and defeat Leviathan and Hecate, respectively, while Aeolus and Hyperion took down Geb. I suppose they were successful, somehow, because it was right after that when Hyperion called them together to face Erebus."

You realize that Auriel doesn't know that they were playing into Erebus's hands the entire time. All those confrontations might have been arranged to happen like that in the first place. But you decide to leave it without further explanation.

"In any case, I assume Adavan would know its general location," she says. "Though I'm not sure what he expects to find. Something Logi left, I suppose?"

<Maybe. Where is it?>

"North, in the Frostbite Ocean. Above the Shiprakers."

<Understood,> you say. <I'd better get ready.>

"We'll hold down the fort," Auriel says.

I can't help but look at the ability chart and see how filled out it is, yet we're clearly outdone by characters who were nothing compared to elemental lords.

Is there some "Gain Biggatons of Power" station on that chart somewhere? Or is it going to be some special unlock after we have everything else? Because we might be Erebus' new self, but we sure as hell don't have anything close to his power.

Wonder why we're not rushing it, considering there's stuff 'after' it, but I guess people aren't entirely reasonable.

Order immateria and what comes after it are my guess.

There's also the substantial tree completion bonuses that aren't displayed on the tree itself.

>>28075829
We are rushing it though, with Mind Crush or anything else that gets us closer to completing the grey tree. The rest of spirit tree is by necessity though, in how it can deal with mages.
>>
>>28075792
We get huge bonuses after completing trees. Also, the Shadow Magic tree and the Earth Magic tree hold very powerful stuff that is still unrevealed.

Just imagine what comes after Eclipse, Void Ring and Machina Vita.

You fly up into the air, gather your aura behind you, and launch forward at supersonic speed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Drpyr67423A

The great forest flicks and flickers below you, a next of trees that turns into one long, green blur. You drag a hand through the branches every so often, keeping the Skysever from targeting you.

After a few minutes, the trees thin, and then vanish. A plain rushes under you, browned and dusted with snow from the winter skies. And then, in a blink, you see Tarun Gakth, a twist of rocky canyons and walls jutting out of the flat ground. You soar above it. Dark crevices and sun-baked stone zips under you as you shoot forward.

And then, the ocean. You see spray of white water against pillars of rock where the power of the sea meets the land.

And a moment later, you're gone, and before you is a vast expanse of ocean. As you cruise forward, the temperature drops rapidly. And then it begins to snow and your visibility fades. You stay low, occasionally slowing to dip into the water, and then continuing forward.

Finding a lone island in the cold north may be difficult.

Leviathan was the Elemental Lord of water. The most powerful water mage you know always used ice. So, the cold and the snow must mean you're going in the right direction.

Trusting that reasoning, you forge forward into the blizzard over the sea. The waves are rough - you have to go higher to avoid getting hit by the huge walls of water. You can hardly see for all the snow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoxALVDAck8

Just when you think you've made a mistake - the snow vanishes. You cut out your supersonic to take in the sight below.

A ring of ice shields the expands below from the huge, crashing waves. The Water here...feels powerful. The air is silent. You hang for some time, still, beating your wings to hover in place...and the Skysever does not come. Glancing back over your shoulder, you see a wall of furious white snow...but it simply ends where the icy island begins.

Below is a strange city. It seems half forged of raw ice, half constructed of wood and stone. The architecture reminds you vaguely of Archon.

Ahead, you see a grand palace of ice. It seems like a great crest of water frozen up into a layered mountain. Power resonates from its top in a grand light, but as you watch, the light fades. A moment later, it starts again, pulsing until at its brightest...and then it vanishes once more. The pattern repeats. It does remind you of an aurora. Maybe that's why it has the name.

The entire place has an ominous weight hanging over it. Water and Shadow were friends...but this isn't a place for any other element but one.

You don't see or feel any sign of your friends. It's possible you got here before them...but it's been some time since they set out.

What do you do?

>investigate one of the buildings
>investigate the palace of ice
>investigate an opening into the icy wall
>use Focus and try to find traces of your friends
>some other strategy

Your focus rebounds off the ice and through the buildings. You wince a bit at releasing a bit more power than you meant to, but you don't waste the opportunity. You hunt for any hint of Adavan's Spirit, Freja's Wind, or Obis's distinctive, fiery soul...

...and you do sense something. A hint of fire...but it doesn't feel like Obis.

That strikes you as extremely odd, especially in this place.

You settle down onto the ground close to where you sensed it. Behind a large gatehouse-like structure is a wide opening you didn't see from your previous aerial vantage point. Maybe this was the way they came in?

The island is as silent as ever. Maybe you got lucky with your Focus...

You order your Wisp to investigate the source of fire while you check the gatehouse. It flickers off your shoulder and down into the tunnel of ice.

>mana: 57/58

You enter the gatehouse, going under the main archway. There don't seem to any visible doors or entrances into the structure proper. You walk forward.

You end up in a squared-off courtyard. The building continues from either side of the gate, wrapping this section of the ice, which has been tamped flat.

It hits you like a rock. Why would a gatehouse end in a walled courtyard? This is a trap!

You spin, and in a blink, you escape just before a sheet of ice as thick as the walls seals you in.

You stand outside and watch the trap activate. A dome of ice appears almost instantaneously over the entire courtyard. And then, a rain of stalagmites annihilates the open area below. That would have hurt.

Just as suddenly as it all appeared, the trap resets itself. The ice that fell melts and blends into the courtyard, as if nothing ever happened.

You take a steadying breath and glance down the route your Wisp took into the icy wall.

Noticing that a door is a door doesn't give you an advantage about what's behind the door. Pointing out a specific fact that seems out of place does get you a bonus if you have to quickly react, or perhaps in noticing something you might have otherwise missed.
>>
>>28077205
Threads over, so feel free to revive it. Doing it mid-thread is probably a bad idea, considering how divisive it turned out to be. There appears to be a small group that hates the name, and most of us just kinda don't care... and since we don't care, it's more trouble than not to change it.

As for the boat? Auriel can name the damn thing for all I care. At the end of the day, she cares about it a lot more than Shadow does, I think.

If one particularly clever anon hits the nail on the head, but nobody else (or very few other people, at least) seems to agree with their assessment, does Shadow get no bonus (because consensus is king), a full bonus (because the idea came up in discussion, and anything we say that isn't metagaming is something that was a part of Shadow's mental processes), or a partial bonus (because even though it was a consideration, it wasn't the decision in the forefront of Shadow's mind)
>>
>>28077255
I, for one, am still voting that we name it the Hyperion Blessed Tits.
>>
>>28077252
>she cares about it a lot more

That's what we'll let her think until we decide we need it back and merge with it's dynamos to control it directly just as we were destined to.
>>
>>28077283
Serious names guys
>>
>>28077307
It is our artifact. so we should name it
>>
>>28077308
Zephyr
Nebula
Do'Vak
Nephilim

The Gavel
>>
Isn't our airship already named Nyxystix Abby-Sabbatical Ship #6?

Pretty sure it was unanimous anyways.
>>
>>28077308
Fine.

How about the Deliverance?
>>
>>28077280

It works exactly as you'd expect. I tend to add anywhere from +1-10 to your roll depending on how many people catch on and how accurate they are in their observation. Your suspicion translates directly to Shadow's suspicion, assuming that works in-character.
>>
>>28077340
Ship.
>>
>>28077251
> name
Ultimate Justice Super Skullfucker 3Million
>>
>>28077357
So for future reference how much did
>>28076882
>>28076929
Garner in terms of bonus?
>>
Does the ship have ANY weapons?
>>
>>28077369
>>28077358
>>28077351
>>28077348
>>28077347
Bismuth
Edgedragon
Edge of the Night Sky
Pointy Sky Blade

But seriously though, I feel like we are capable of pulling out a good name.
>>
>>28077357
>and how accurate they are in their observation
>Your suspicion translates directly to Shadow's suspicion
Does this mean that we could actually end up getting PENALTIES to a roll if we're just completely off-base in our speculation, or are you a mildly benevolent overlord in that respect?
>>
>>28077382
In it's initial description it's described with weapons, but I think SM retconned that for some reason.
>>
>>28077395
The Gavel
>>
>>28077357
Will you use the same twitter account for edgy quest pls
>>
Well, it is a giant black ship that could block out the sun. How about Eclipse?
>>
>>28077406
i think it was described as MAINLY a transport vessel. not sure how many weapons that leaves it with.

additionally i'm not sure how many it added/what it did to the current weapons, our artifacting affected the ship.
>>
>>28077412
I feel like it's not... regal enough. The Gavel is an extension of ourself that we'd use to smash our enemies. We need to find a name that befits the ship's status a carrier, hopefully that denotes its shadowy and windy qualities, and is also powerful.

Fuck, I just thought of something.
What about Tempest?
>>
>>28077424
you do know that our entire force is magic based right? and it is powered by magic?

>>28077445
more "shadow/justice" in it
>>
>>28077395
Okay, I'll stop trying to sell you on "Ship." But it my favorite of all presented.

-No clever jokes/references. Shadow is not good at humor.
-It should reflect the attributes of the boat
++The boat gives 0 fucks and doesn't afraid of anything
++The boat looks like polished obsidian
++The boat is an extension of us
>>
>>28077442
Well when we first found it it's described with weapons which were apparent/visible from the outside.

>The majestic crafts seems forged from the wind itself. Streamers of metal connect domed, fluted decks. Towers and engines and weapons nestle together in one long, elegant shape. It's like the head of an arrow; the point of a breeze. Imprinted in bold runes across one side is a single word:
>Cirrus

Weapons, they be there. Or shadow is really bad at discerning armaments.
>>
>>28077475
what about symbolism?
>>
>>28077490
Elaborate, anon. I'm very tired, deep thought is hard.
>>
>>28077489
i just want to know what our artifacting did to those weapons
>>
>>28077475
At the rick of sounding dangerously cheesy:

The Herald?
>>
>>28077504
lol i dunno
>>
>>28077463
>more "shadow/justice" in it
fair enough
Hmmmmmmm
I really like the storm cloud idea that I used Tempest with, becaus we took a cloud and we darkened it like a storm.
>>
>>28077502
just using the gavel as an example.

the gavel brings down our justice like a judge brings down justice in a courthouse
>>
>>28077351
I really like this name, if it comes up I'll vote for it.
>>
>>28077489
>Cirrus

Cirrus is a type of cloud.
Not very creative, SM.
>>
>>28077527
Thanks anon, I tried.
>>
i liked "The New Moon" as a ship name
>>
>>28077377

I gave you +5.

>>28077357

Nah, no penalties. The consequences of taking an action based on poor observations is penalty enough.

>>28077417

I've talked about it so much that I suppose I will. If I run another quest, even further in the future, I'll see about using a new name/trip entirely.
>>
>>28077523
But tempest doesn't sound "night/storm" enough
>>
>Auriel will have named the ship already.
>>
>>28077548
What about Breaking Dawn?

We could name the ship Dusk
>>
>>28077424
It's definitely shadowy, but a little too thematically Erebus. We don't exactly have any desire to block out the sun, after all.

In addition to the other two suggestions I liked and mentioned earlier, I'd also like to put forward Nightglow.

>Airglow (also called nightglow) is the very weak emission of light by a planetary atmosphere. In the case of Earth's atmosphere, this optical phenomenon causes the night sky never to be completely dark, even after the effects of starlight and diffused sunlight from the far side are removed.

Naming the ship after the astronomical phenomenon that there is always light, even where there seems to be absolute darkness is pretty reasonable symbolism, and even symbolism aside, the name isn't entirely embarrassing.

>>28077548
New Moon also seems pretty solid.
>>
>>28077523
If we wish to follow the precedent set by "Cirrus," a thunder cloud's technical name is Cumulonimbus.
>>
The Dark Storm?
>>
>>28077560
Evening's Dawn
>>
>>28077582
It brings to mind, rather hilariously, that when I first read the ship's name I thought it was Citrus.

I was very confused.
>>
Well. You guys have fun with your names. Good night SM and thank you for thread. I hope the next one is just as pleasant.
>>
>>28077573
>>28077560
it is the name of a Twilight boook and therefore vetoed automatically
>>
>>28077606
Amusingly, you weren't actually that far off; since it was lacking a dynamo at the time we found it, the ship was literally a lemon.
>>
The Black Cyclone?

i like it
>>
>>28077608
We'll have all the fun, and we're going to hog it and not share it.
Ship is best name

Tartarus - realm of the damned, for judgement and punishment etc
Nyx - personification of night
Nemesis - vengence and retribution
>>
>>28077647
Stygian Storm (awesome)

Unlit Storm
>>
>>28077657
Well i'm going to bed.

as long as Sorry doesn't pick "Ship" whatever he says is fine.

best two so far are:
Stygian Storm
Nemesis

I know for a fact that there was no full size version.

I'm about as good at naming things as Shadow is.

My cat is named Cat.
My rat is named Rat.
One of my ferrets is named Weasel. The other two would be named Ermine and Stoat if my girlfriend had let me.

Don't let me name things. But please, whatever we do, keep it to one word, and preferably less than ten letters. In the name of practicality, it's just easier to communicate.
>>
>>28077677
>>28077717
>Stygian Storm
Please don't have us name our flagship like we're invoking an unbearably edgy chuunibyou attack.
>>
>>28077831
Let's call it the Stiggy Ziggy
>>
How about naming it the Penumbra? It seems to fit the ship and what it represents pretty accurately.
>>
>>28077717
Though, Nemesis may be too in the vein of Erebus. If we wish to boil it down to a concept, as we distilled Shadow from Erebus, perhaps Retribution, Justice, or Vengeance.
>>
>>28077946
>Penumbra: a space of partial illumination (as in an eclipse) between the perfect shadow on all sides and the full light.

The edge of perfect darkness and piercing light, much like our own view.
