General consensus among non-fanboys is that 40k codex's are written as a propaganda piece first and an accounting of actual strength second, their supplements are written with little actual thought to the numbers, and novels run on the rule of plot first and foremost. Aeroblast was originally depicted as a beam weapon, and was Flying type because it hit so hard and fast that the primary damaging factor was the blast of vacuum cavitation, like a thermobaric bomb in reverse. I must have watched that movie about a hundred times as a kid, and not once did it ever seem like anything but Hyper Beam. Vacuum cavitation cannot be formed into a beam, that's not how shockwaves work, nor does the beam's effects on it's targets indicate anything other than being a beam of solid Fuck You.
Additionally, elsewhere in the movie a Gyarados uses hyper beam to clear a channel though some ice, and that beam is nearly identical in color and general appearance, though obviously far weaker.

I admit the differences are sparse, but at the time the differences between Hyper Beam and Aeroblast WERE sparse. But there are flourishes in the design and direction that seem to be nods to the in-game animation and fluff. An extended charge sequence that Hyper Beam didn't have as of Gen II (which was what was current at the time), a telltale radial shine/shockwave around the point the beam fires from, and an obvious and overwhelming shockwave of air (sufficient to instantly fracture and lift multi-ton blocks of oceanic ice) surrounding the entirety of the beam.

Also, Aeroblast has been specifically stated to launch a "vacuumed blast". However it does it, it explicitly uses a vacuum to cause damage.

Huh. Given that perspective, comparing the explosion sizes to the stories more directly, I'm having a hard time even telling the difference between the two. The size of the tiny windows at the top of the flying fortress are too small to even count in series of 4 stories at a time top to bottom to determine how big it really is without a degree of eyestrain I don't feel like subjecting myself to.

Though Lance's Hyperbeam is clearly not an average one. If a trainer can get a normal if rare Pokemon's performance to rival a legendary's, (fluff wise, not game mechanics), could they be considered.... I dunno. A Legendary Pokemon Trainer?

The problem is that we can only see the scale, not the power. Lugia's attack, if it is a hypercondensed blast, would give it more speed, range, and penetrating power, wheras a standard hyper beam explodes, casuing a larger explosion. This means Aero blast should be used to rip holes in the side of heavily armored structures (ie. necron monoliths, tyranid bioships, etc) followed up by a hyper beam to cause horrific internal explosions

It is, in raw power. 100 vs 150. It's all the other details that make it worthwhile. Double crit chance, it's not Normal type (so you can hit ghosts with it), no recharge time, and it's longer range. (Which comes into play in 3v3 matches.)

Given the way the movie depicts it, I would guess the 'normal' power of Aeroblast is assuming the beam doesn't hit, but the shockwave around it does, much like we don't make AA missiles to directly hit a target but instead catch them in a blast wave. The larger crit rate represents a direct hit.

As a diehard Pokemon fan, I can say with complete certainty that the Tyranids would win.

What do they have? Numbers and coordinated tactics. All the Pokemon in all the world wouldn't stand a chance against a full-scale Tyranid invasion; Pokemon specialize in small-scale duels, not colossal battles. If anything, the 'nids would only get stronger as they went on, thanks to their genestealing.

Here's the simple fact is Gamefreak writing the scenario? Then no, remember the legendaries are pretty much gods.
IS GW writing the scenario? Yes because Tyranids.

Don't just do 40k faction vs what have you, set up the fucking parameters so neither side has home setting advantage, discuss their strengths outside of Grimderp, only war, no change in the status quo for 40k and same goes for the other setting, take out what makes the non-40k whatever strong that doesn't rely on their world 100%. Basically instead of capturing pokemon with pokeballs they take pokemon and graft their power/parts onto children (and older). We are starting out as a Seel. it is possible to get more than one graft at a limit of up to two different types. but an unlimited number of pokemon. Original 151 in our area, but other areas do exist in faraway lands.
