>Rolls and Persona Quest
When I call for a roll, I'll select the highest of the first three rolls made in response to the post calling for it. Natural 1's and natural 20's within the first five rolls count as critical failures or successes, and override the first three roll rule. Natural 1's and 20's negate each other. Only rolls linked to the post asking for them count, unless they are acting as corrections to misrolls that are linked to the proper post.

>Previously....

After asking around, you find that the notice board has a note saying that none will be posted until the 23rd...

When you drop in at the hobby shop, the manager is there, and he says that he isn't hiring. All the other stores seem to be family run, so they're out of the running.

Daidara, though happy to see you, isn't exactly looking to take an apprentice.

The presence outside of his shop turns out to be a door not unlike the one you found in the TV World, though when you try to open it open, the door remains sealed, and you can hear a hum of power coming from inside of it...

The gas station turns up a paper application, which you tuck away in your shirt pocket.

Looking at your watch, it's time to head to Junes...

...

As you arrive, you notice that almost everyone is here... Kanji appears to be absent at the moment, and Yosuke is off at a counter getting food, but Minako is sitting at a table with Chie and Yukiko, seemingly engaged in conversation...

We do hope this isn't going to become a common occurrence, it left us quite tired and with blisters in places difficult to reach to apply salve to. Speaking of which, Ms. Amagi, might we ask you for a spot of healing, it's chafing something awful. And Chie, you're into this sort of thing, how do you work away the burn after a rough encounter?

>Charm! 20!

Grabbing an empty chair from a nearby table, you head over towards the chatting girls.

"Hello, ladies," You say as you sidle up to the table with a charming smile. "I see that you're feeling fine after our encounter last night, Miss Arisato "

You hear footsteps behind you, and a sound like an 'urk.' A glance behind you shows that Yosuke was approaching with a tray

"Well," Minako replies, eyes taking a mischievous gleam. "I've always enjoyed working with younger men."

...Yukiko and Chie get odd expressions, partway between embarrassment and anger.

"I mean, I'm still exhausted, and those blisters I was left with are still aching." You continue as Yosuke sputters behind you. This is going to be fun.

"Oh, yes. A lot of encounters I'm involved in end with one party or the other unable to move." Minako shakes her head.

"Well, glad it wasn't us that stopped moving." Your sparkle and smile drop, and your voice lowers. "That explosion at the end nearly got me."

Minako nods as the others' brains seem to be shifting gears.

"Yeah, but we managed to kill the JOKER once. From what my coworkers dug up, that's a difficult task." She says, her own mirth fading. "Which is the point of this meeting, anyway."

...Wait. Once? That means...

Yosuke and Chie seem somewhat more off balance from that.

"Wait, you...You killed the thing that threw us in the TV? Already?" Yosuke asks, shocked expression on his face.

"Then...We're done? The thing we organized to figure out the secret of is gone?" ...Chie seems similarly dumbfounded.

You shake your head.

"No. It's able to be summoned again, isn't it?" You say, turning to face Minako, who nods. "We'll have to take down whoever's summoning it to finally be rid of it."

"Yeah. Even that might not help, since it seems to be more like a virus than anything else." She sighs. "We're in for a long hunt."

"Well, at least we know a bit more about it." You say, shaking your head. "It's summoner is different from its creator, and it's creator evidently wanted those masks back."

...This gets odd looks, but a nod from Yukiko.

"That makes sense. Why would someone able to make something like that just use it to push people into TVs?" She says, rubbing her chin. "And it's being loaned out to someone, too..."

You shake your head. Not really enough information to work off of at the moment.

"At any rate, anyone see Tatsumi since school?" You say, shifting the subject. "I thought he'd be joining us here pretty soon."

You get shakes of the head from everyone else.

...Dammit, Kanj-
...And there he is, walking towards the group from the other entrance, looking kind of annoyed.

"Yo." He says, finally approaching the the table. "Sorry I'm late. Ma wanted to chewed me out on somethin'. What'd I miss?"

"Not much." You say, shaking your head.

...You filled Kanji in on the JOKER, and everyone about the suspect's appearance.

"Oh, man. Some punk's calling himself so that thing will attack people?" Kanji asks, shaking his head. "That's just messed up."

....Not much you can say to that.

...You have some time before you need to head home.

While we're in there, go over Persona capabilities with everyone. We know from last night that Personas have non-obvious powers that wouldn't be immediately apparent. And we haven't seen Chie's Persona at all, yet. Considering that she's the only party member who hasn't seen combat, we should spend a little time to pass along what we've learned of Shadow fighting and Persona use. And maybe we'll get a Social Link out of it. I just don't feel right without at least level one S-Links with every party member.
>>
>>27819017
What are the non-obvious powers we noticed, by the way?
>>
>>27819036
Rakukaja. Up until the JOKER fight Yu had no conscious idea he could harden like that. Speaking of which, could we do that on other things than just our team? Abstracting it to a general "strengthen objects" power could be kind of cool foe environmental interaction.

>Check in with the Shadow and Teddie.

"Alright. Miss Arisato hasn't been into the TV world yet." You say after a few minutes of quiet. "Care to take a jaunt to it?"

....The group seems to be considering it, before Yukiko nods.

"I wanted to see if that place you disappeared at is there." She says, pausing a moment. "I mean, the same key you have appeared in my pocket at the same time. It's bound to be connected."

You nod at that, and the rest of the group murmurs agreement to hop into the TV world.

...

You sent an email to Dojima, then the group slowly makes their way downstairs to the electronics department.

"Alright." Yosuke says, glancing around. "Let's see if just being there once can let us through..."

He taps the screen, watching as ripples form, before climbing in.

....Interesting...

Chie and Yukiko go next, leaving you with Kanji and Minako, who both try to no effect.

So it's not just 'Persona' or 'Been there before'...

"We gonna stand around all day, or are we gonna go into the TV?" Kanji asks, breaking you out of your thoughts.

...Time to go.

You stick your arm into the TV screen as you let the other two through, then follow them.

Landing on the platform, you look around.

Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko are gathered at the door, Yukiko pulling on the handle repeatedly.

The Shadow and Teddie are nowhere to be seen...

"So," You say, catching the three's attention. "You can see it now?"

Yukiko nods, while Chie and Yosuke shake their heads. Minako takes notice of the area as well, and seems to be lost in thought for a moment...

"A blue door, yes?" Yukiko asks, placing her hand on it. "It's locked, and there's no keyhole to use that in."

You step over to the door yourself, and give opening it a shot as well...

...

It's stuck closed, like the one in the shopping district was, though the handle feels oddly warm, and you can still feel a hum of power from inside.

Shaking your head, you turn around.

"Nothing. I think there's something going on in there, though." You say, glancing back to the door. "The handle's warmer than it was yesterday, and I can hear something humming inside..."

This seems to snap Minako out of her thoughts, but she remains silent.

"Anyway, we should see where Teddie and that Shadow are..." You continue, looking around. No real sign of where they've gone can be seen

"Oh, yeah!" Yosuke seems to have just realized about their absence. "Maybe they went off somewhere, or something?"

"Maybe..." Chie pauses for a moment... "Maybe they went down to one of those dungeons to train? I mean, that's what I'd do in this sort of situation."

...That makes sense. The encounter with the Reaper would probably make anyone feel like they needed to get stronger, and Teddie seems like the sort to follow along.

"That's probably it." You say after a moment. "Which one they're in, though, is the question."

...The group heads down the ladder.

"From what I could tell, Satonaka's had the stronger Shadows in it." You say, looking to the hatch. "They're probably in there if they went off to train."

This gets nods from the others, and you walk over to the hatch and crack it open.

"Let's go."

... Within a minute or two, the group is standing in that entry room... Poking your head out of it, you see that the corridor has changed since the last time you visited... And that the hall meets another about fifty feet down...

You wave the group on, leaning around the corner to get a look at what's happening.

...One of those monk-like Shadows is slumped against the wall, fading, as a larger shape moves further down the hall, barely out of your range of vision.

Stepping the rest of the way around to see if you can get a better look, you can't really make out much. At the very least, it's not the Reaper, or nearly as big, but it's still bigger than everyone with you, and probably not very nice...

...There's a rattle as the Shadow on the wall finally fades, mask dropping to the ground.

"The hell is that thing?" Kanji asks, evidently having followed you and caught sight of it as well.

"...It looked like one of those Shadows we were fighting yesterday... But it was too big." You turn, seeing Yukiko in thought. "Miss Arisato, do you know if Shadows can grow somehow?"

Minako shakes her head.

"The only Shadows I've heard of absorbing others have all been defeated." She says, looking at the mask. "I have fought particularly large and powerful Shadows that were running around, though, so it could just be one on a rampage."

We probably should have expected something like this. Teddie makes his tools from Shadow masks. He had to have gotten the materials for the glasses and cards he gave us from somewhere. He must scavenge in the wake of these big rampaging Shadows. But he's smart, and a survivor. I doubt he'd be so close behind it. We should check elsewhere in the dungeon. Let's go back to that door. Maybe they ducked through there to avoid the Mad Monk.

"...Let's avoid that thing for now." You say, crossing the few feet of distance to pick up the mask of the fallen Shadow. "Too risky."

This gets nods from the rest, and you lead the group back around the corner.

Approaching the door, you listen carefully. Noise like something is moving in there.

Reaching to draw your sword and get ready for a fight, you notice as everyone else readies their weapons, and Chie hops from foot to foot.

"Ready?" You ask, getting nods from everyone.

...You slam the door open, dashing in and finding a trio of the monk-like Shadows pacing, now looking surprised.

On the other side of the room is another door.

If they do not respond kindly, use our new Persona. Kanji stays for rear support since he lacks a persona.

>Attack! (How/which?)
We need a combat formation. Yu and Chie on the front lines for sheer bashing power. Minako and Yukiko at the back for ranged support. Yosuke uses is skirmisher, hits targets of opportunity. Kanji joins him, as without a Persona he's going to have limited effect against the Shadows.

As for the actual attack, I say we do a sliding sword strike against the closest Shadow, knocking it off balance so Chie can kick its face in. Come on, Satonaka, give us a Galactic Punt.
>>
>>27829101
We only have one Persona. We have a Reversed Fool card, but we don't have a corresponding Persona for it. Maybe we can unlock the associated Persona, but right now we still just have He Who Invites in our arsenal.

Despite its expressionless face, you can tell that the monk-Shadow is surprised.

Even more so when you turn it's kick into a swing, getting a yell from behind you as your allies duck, and then fling it at the nearer of the other two Shadows.

The impact seems to stun the first one and its now knocked over ally, and the third looks uncertain...

Kicking your sword up, you catch it and rush forwards, slashing straight through the last enemy standing.

It doesn't even stand a chance, and you can hear the sound of something freezing over instantly as you turn around.

A glance reveals the Persona you had seen Minako summon last night- Jack Frost, if you remember right-, Jiraiya, Konohana Sakuya, and a new one, probably Chie's, each with an arm extended and aimed at the now frozen Shadows.

Kanji, Chie, and Yosuke are looking at the results with awe in their eyes, and Yukiko at it with some surprise, while Minako seems to be analyzing it.

"Hm... I guess a second ice and a fire makes for a good replacement for water in a pinch..." She mutters, nodding at Kanji.

The expression on Kanji's changes from awe to seriousness, as he runs forwards and slams his shield into one, shattering it. A hammer blow does the same to the second.

...It is kinda awe inspiring, since it looks like they were frozen through...

"...I'm not completely convinced these things aren't Stands." You say, glancing over to the summoned ones. "Speaking of which, that's the first time I've seen yours, Satonaka. What's it named?"

"...Tomoe." She says, concentrating for a moment, then shaking her head as the Persona vanishes. "Tomoe Gozen. She can shoot ice, and she can stab things. "

She shrugs, before continuing.

"But you gotta show me how you did that!" She continues, eyes gleaming. "I mean, that sorta thing is usually special effects, but you did it like it was nothing!"

...She really is a martial arts junkie, huh?

"I've got no clue, really." You say, shaking your head. "It was luck, plain and simple."

This gets a sigh from her.

"Ah well. Worth checking." She says, heading towards the remnants of the Shadows nudging through the steaming chunks with her foot.

...You glance at the parts, noticing the shattered masks of the frozen ones. A glance at the one you slashed shows its mask is unharmed, and you retrieve it.

A minute passes as everyone calms down and nears the door.

You get a brief feeling of foreboding as you touch the door, and as it creaks open, you see, sitting at the end of a short hall...

A red chest.

> Investigate, then open if it looks safe

Looking around the room, you check the walls and ceiling.

Both are clear of traps and ambushes, by your inspection...

Moving on towards the chest, you glance back at the group. Yosuke and Kanji are talking near the door, with Yukiko and Chie walk closer to the looting. Minako is eying the chest herself, a gleam of greed in her eye.

Cracking it open, you see a small, crimson sphere, about the size of a large marble, sitting in the base, looking for all the world like it's innocent of any sin.

As you pick it up, though, you notice a shifting in the box, as it seems to let loose thin beams of bright light that hit the ceiling and walls. You have a feeling they're passing through them, too...

...That can't be good, you think as you hear exclamations of surprise behind you.

You shake your head, dropping the stone into your pocket and standing up.

"Alright," You say, turning and seeing the expressions of your team. "That is not a fantastic sign."

...

Crossing through the room and arriving back at the intersection, you hear footsteps coming from the direction of the ladder up.

A quick glance around the corner shows that the Shadow and Teddie are approaching you.

....So they were in Yosuke's dungeon, instead.

You signal the rest of the group to run the corner, and give a wave to the two Shadows.

"So, got another one, huh?" The Shadow says, nodding at Minako. "Not bad."

...You can hear someone sigh behind you.

"Yeah, yeah." You say, shaking your head and sighing at the Shadow's comment. "I'm pretty sure she could kick all our asses. Shadow Me, Teddie, meet Minako Arisato. Turns out we're not the first group to have to deal with this stuff."

...The Shadow's expression flashes to one of careful appraisal, then back to its normal smirk.

"Well then, I suppose I should apologize." He says, shaking his head and taking an overly dramatic bow. "But that's not important right now. What is is that we get out of here, fast."

...This can't be good.

"That light is a beacon." He continues, looking around in a paranoid manner. "That thing will be here any minute."

Turning around, you see that Minako's face has gone white, while the others have expressions of confusion.

...And you can tell that they hear something in the distance, from the shift to one of panic.

"Everybody out." You say, starting to run down the hall.

There are no arguments as you rush down the hall, sending people up the ladder quickly.

...A rattling noise, much like chains can be heard, slowly getting louder as you climb out of the hatch and it's slammed shut.

"So, looks like we have a ritual, huh?" The Shadow asks, grinning and chuckling. "Every time we try to explore that place, we wind up running from that damn thing."

You shake your head.

"Not something I want to keep doing." You say, looking at him. "Anyway, now that we should be safe from it, I've got some stuff to share..."

...You tell him about the incident last night as Minako fills the others in on the Reaper ...

"...Aw, crap." You hear Yosuke say, shaking hs head. "That thing's gonna keep showing up in here, isn't it?"

This gets a sad nod from you and Minako.

"I don't see any way around it unless you can put it down for good, like we did." She says, shaking her head. "The Reaper stalked Tatarus for nearly a year from what I was told. It's probably here to stay for the foreseeable future."

(1/2)
>>
>>27844331

You hear a loud smack, and turn to see Chie clenching her fist in her hand.

"Then we'll just have t' beat the crap out of stuff until we can take it down." She says, grinning.

...Not much that can be said to that.

...That's right. The sphere, and masks....

Pulling it out of your pocket, you hold it out, tossing the masks over to Teddie with your other hand.

"Know anything about this?" You ask, catching the Shadow's attention.

He walks over, peering at it.

"...No clue. Looks like hit has some healing abilities, though." He shrugs.

..How useful.

>>
>>27844345
I like the way Chie thinks. Let's do some exploring, maybe we can find somewhere good to grind. And we need to get Kanji a Persona of his own, he's the only one without one. Aside from the Shadows, of course.

Oh wait, before we do that, hand Shadow Yu back the Reversed Fool card. Hey, if arcana cards can be dropped, does that mean we could swap them around between people? Not to use, necessarily, but just to see if they can be physically interacted with by people other than their owner. Could be a neat experiment.

I think Shadow Yu has seen the masks before. We certainly talked about them in his presence, last time, so he knows about them.Either way, it doesn't matter. I don't think we have them on us. There's no mention of it in the stuff we grabbed before we left the house. Then again, there was also no mention of our sword, so it's possible that equipment and key items are just things we're automatically assumed to have with us at all times.
>>

Sighing, you take a seat.

"Hanamura, Satonaka." You say, catching their attention. "This has been bugging me for a bit, but... Have you lost anything recently? Like an old set of headphones, or some buttons?"

Both shake their head.

"Nope. Why?" Yosuke asks, giving you a curious look as he taps his own headphones. "These are the only ones I've gotten in years."

"Nah. These are pretty much one of a kind, that I made years ago." Chie adds, pointing to the ones on her jacket.

"Because, those fake-Shadows dropped copies of those when they died." You say, pointing to Yosuke's headphones and Chie's buttons. "I wanted to know if they were real, or just copies. Looks like the latter."

The two look somewhat disturbed about that.

"I've got them at home, though." You continue. "If you want, I could give them to you."

"Nah. You can keep the freaky Shadow magic clones." Yosuke shakes his head, getting a nod from Chie.
Not much you can say to that.

You turn to Teddie.

"Alright." You say, catching the bear's attention. "What all can you make with those masks?"

The bear tilts a little, looking at you.

"I dunno. Stuff." He says after a moment. "Oh! Miss Minako! Have some glasses!"

...He rummages briefly in his neck-zipper, before holding out a dark red pair of glasses to Minako.

"They make the fog a lot better!" He seems to be trying to sparkle at her.

She sighs, taking the glasses.

"Thanks Teddie." Minako says, putting the frames on and taking a look around. "Huh. I don't think even the boss could get this sort of effect."

Teddie nods enthusiastically, while the Shadow shakes his head.

"I don't need food." He says, sighing. "Or drink, or air, for that matter."

Really, no air even? Huh. Then again, from when he was wounded it didn't seem like he even had blood, so something made of smoke and darkness probably wouldn't use normal metabolic processes. But these things are meant to replace an infiltrate. Maybe they turn into genuine flesh after they kill the original. Well, whatever, we're not going to judge our weird Shadow-clone friend.

As for Teddie, we should definitely bring him treats. He's an adorable plush bear, how can you say no to that face? We'll start him off with things we can get from the food court, but at some point we should include him in our kitchen duties. We will make him food cooked with love. Actually, now that I think about it, "cook them food" seems to be Yu's default means of showing his affection. We should branch out into other tactics. YES. You can not stop the puns, Shadow Yu. Don't try to put a paws on it. It will only make things ursa.
>>
>>27850315
Right, so we definitely need to get some sort of communication system going on here; we need to fix the problem of having to search for Teddie and Shadow!Yu every time we want to talk to or meet with either of them, and also allow the possibility of safely splitting up while keeping in contact with all groups.

Since Teddie could make "stuff" with the masks, perhaps he could do something about that?

Well, after that, since the purpose of this particular excursion is to introduce the TV World to Minako, perhaps we could get on with that? Perhaps exploring the dungeons, but also exploring the shadow Inaba (and possibly beyond)?
>>
>>27850581
Those unbearable puns
>>
>>27850664
>You mean go explore the Shadow Inaba, when your only known way of going down (OR UP, if you ARE down) is blocked by the Reaper?

>Sounds reasonable to me.
>>
>>27850664
We need to check if radio waves still transmit in here. If they do, we can solve the problem by just sticking the antenna of a walky-talkie through the TV in our room so it can reach one we give to Shadow Yu.
>>
>>27850718
Hmm. Can we physically interact with our Personas? Like ride on them, I mean. Because most of them can fly, or at least float, so that might get us down there safely. Getting back up could be a problem, though.
>>
>>27850760
>You can, but riding on them is "out" at the moment, due to them all being pretty weak/fresh.
>>
>>27850886
Fair enough. Maybe someday when we can summon things like Kohryu we'll be able to ride them.
>>
>So, snark at the Shadow, then see if Teddie can make something that works in the TV world?
>>
>>27851149
Yeah. Sounds good. We shall pay Teddie for his services in Topsicles. Though we should give him other food just for free, because we are a cool sensei.

We should check out that other card we have.

Let's see what Teddie can make outta the masks.

Part of me wants to see what happens when you get blood on one of them...

>Snark, ask about contacting each other in the TV world and out, card

"Well," You say, walking over and clasping your hand onto the Shadow's shoulder and giving him a serious look.

"You'll just have to bear it."

....You can practically feel the malice coming from him at that comment, but it fades nigh instantly.

"...Alright, that one was kinda funny." He says, shaking his head with a chuckle. "But don't push your luck."

You smirk, before turning to Teddie.

"Know of any way we could communicate through the TV world to the one we're from?" You ask, getting a shake of the bear's head in return.

"Nope. I bearly knew of it before two days ago." He says, rubbing the side of his head with a paw.

...That's out, then.

As the others move to look over the ledge, you take a seat and pull out the spare card.

...What does it even do...?

>NOTICE! 18!

'...thou... sea of souls...' You hear faintly as you examine the card in detail...

...Is this thing... Another Persona?

IN A FABULOUS POSE

...Whoops, my bad for not making it clearer. The communications system I had in was in intra-TV World, so that Teddie and Shadow!Yu (and everyone else, too) could have adventures while everyone else is off in the real world. It was never suppose to work inter-world.

Also, I totally support Yu making a (in his mind, totally awesome) pose before summoning the Persona.

True, but I don't want to see what happens when you critical fail summoning forth a shard of power from the Sea of Souls using an artifact gained from the horrible eldritch monster-thing that looks like you and only is friendly because it's malfunctioning. I'd rather go with a 13 than accidentally calling Nyarlathotep.
>>
>>27852543
How much do you want to bet that were debating between summoning Laharl with the 1 or Flonne with that 13?
>>
>>27852543
>Calling Nyarlathotep
>From a Reversed Fool card

Yeah, that won't happen. Ever.
>>
>>27852623
How would I know that? The metaphysics of the False Shadows are not very clear. Reversed Fool stands for lack of hope, impulsive and foolish actions, and the querent's journey being disrupted by outside forces. Accidentally drawing on the power of something very bad would be a perfectly valid interpretation of those traits.
>>
>>27852726
True.

>But, in the Green of Fact, I say this. It won't call Nyarlathotep, ever.
>>
>>27852752
Okay. Good to know. I wasn't accusing you of lying, I'm sorry if that's what it seemed like. Hell, I wasn't even really expecting to summon Nyarlathotep. I'm just saying that we don't understand the Reversed Arcana, so who knows what sort of bad things we could get ourselves into?

You stand, striking a fabulous pose, as you clench the card in your hand.

"PERSONA!"

>13!

...Oh god that hurts, you think as you release the still solid card, letting it drop to the ground.

A glance at your hand shows no bleeding, but the mark on your palm is obvious.

Looking around, you see Yukiko laughing- evidently having found the whole thing hilarious- as Chie tries to calm her down, Kanji and Yosuke facepalming with the Shadow, Teddie looking worried, and Minako sighing.

"Look." Minako says, looking at you. "You can't just trigger a random card you found somewhere and expect it to work."

You rub the back of your head in an embarrassed manner.

"Well..." You start, shifting your weight. "That was how I summoned my first Persona, and it said same thing, so..."

She shakes her head.

"It doesn't always work like that." She says, stepping over and picking up the dropped card. "Now, what did the spooky voice say?"

"Something about the 'sea of souls'." You say, shaking your head. "Which is what the first one said, too, come to think of it."

She seems troubled by this.

"'Souls', plural?" She asks, looking at you oddly. "Not 'sea of your soul'?"

...You think back, carefully.

"...No, it was 'sea of souls', both times." You say, now pondering that. "Why?"

"...Because, it's always been 'Sea of your soul' when I or the other Wild Card I know find a new one or fuse one." Minako says, giving you a serious look.

Oh. That... Can't be good.

After a minute's thought, you take a look at your watch, which still functions in here...

You have a few hours to go before you should get home..
