You wake up to beautiful Saturday morning. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and there's a crisp, yet gentle breeze causing the trees to gently sway.

You immediately throw the drapes on top of your blinds, allowing your room to fall into blessed darkness, put on a dressing gown and turn on your computer, before sinking into your comfy computer chair. Aaaah. Heaven.

As you browse the internet, a message pops up, informing you that you have a new e-mail. Curious, you check it.

It... is a little strange.

'Hello. My name is Steven. The world is currently in grave peril. To avert this looming crisis, I have sent out the Demon Summoning Program to as many people as possible.

If you have received this message, you are one of them. Please access the attached file to unlock the demon summoning program.

Steven

Odd in content, oddly phrased and quite blunt.

Normally, you'd send this email to the 'Junk' section, where it could hang out with the Nigerian princes and asylum seekers, but there's something about it that just... calls to you. In spite of your better judgement, you click the attached file.

Your screen immediately goes blue.

Before you start roaring in fury, a message appears.

>Are you Male or Female?

It doesn't appear the program is going to let you quit without answering.

>Answer (Give Gender)
>Turn off Computer

*Note: Gender affects diplomacy with demons. Certain demons will react better to one gender or another, causing them to be easier (and cheaper) to recruit. Certain backgrounds are also locked to a specific gender. The story will also be affected in certain key elements.
>>
Male, I guess. Seems fitting for an SMT game.
>>

Male
>>
>>27812791

>>

>>
After a brief moment of deliberating whether to just turn your computer off, you sigh and type in that you're Male.

Probably not a good idea to lie to the program that has hijacked your computer after all.

There's a white flash as the machine accepts your answer. Then, another line of text shoots across it.

>How would you describe your upbringing?

>Military Brat
>Your father was a drill sergeant, and he made damn sure you knew it. Despite your attempts to get away from his influence and sink into the wonderful world of computers, you still have an athletic physique and a rather disconcerting amount of skill with an assortment of weaponry.

>Computer Whiz
>You LOVE computers. You FUCKING adore computers. And they love you. You can use computers and programs with additional proficiency. Additionally, summoning costs are reduced.

>Layabout
>You don't like doing things. Anything you don't have to do right now can get put off until you have to do it at that moment. This has left you lacking both physique and computer wizardry, but made you very good at justifying the kind of person you are, as well as picking up an assortment of interesting facts from around the internet. You gain bonuses to diplomacy and demon recruitments.

After a moment's thought, you type in Computer Whiz.

It's true enough after all. Your father loves computers, your mother loves computers and you've love computers since you were a kid. And you've gotten very good with them. The fact that this program somehow seems to have slipped past all your anti-virus nets and firewalls is incredibly frustrating. Once you are done playing it's game, you'll be sure to analyse it and discover it's secrets!

If it doesn't wipe your system after it's done or something, and this whole question time is just a sick game. You really hope that isn't the case.

The program, entirely ignorant of your mental turmoil, asks another question. This one, at least, should be easy.

After a moment's processing, another line of text. It's short, curt and to the point.

>Thank you. Good luck.

With that, the screen returns to your desktop, much to your relief. But there's something new there. A file named DSP has been installed, and a shortcut is sitting squarely in the middle of your screen.

>(Computer Whiz) Analyse it

Quickly, you set up a number of programs to monitor and check on your unwelcome guest. It doesn't take long for them to report that it's clean of viruses or spyware. Not too reassuring, considering that it's already slipped past those very same defences, but better than nothing. You get to work.

Actually getting anything more than the most basic data from the machine is nigh impossible, but from what you can see, the program creates a digital representation actions, words and physical objects in text format. For such a simple process, it's remarkably complicated and you can't help but feel the data you're missing is important. Nevertheless, you notice a few tiny little errors in the bits of the program you see that look like they could be corrected. Nothing major, but they're kind of annoying to look at on a program like this. Like a blemish on a work of art. You fix them.

Complete newbie to anykind of software here, I know that's not how software works, but actually being accurate to how it would work is A) impossibleas it's a demon summoning program, and B)not actually accurate at all according to devil survivor, that's literally the closest you get to seeing the nitty gritty of the demon summoning code.

Also, it'd be kind of boring. Sorry if I set your OCD off though. I know the feeling. People talking about biology and mutation often makes me want to strangle them.

It doesn't take you long to transfer the Demon Summoning Program onto your smartphone and 3DS. Indeed, the program copies astonishingly fast for it's size.

A few moments later, you've hooker all of the systems up and are ready for go time. There's a few doubts in your mind about the sanity of running an unknown program on all of your major electronics simultaneously, but you quash them. What's the worst that could happen? Other than it wiping all your electronics, that is.

You decide you'd rather not think about that.

Just as you're finishing the preparation, there is a knock on the door, and young, feminine voice speaks up.

"Charley? Are you awake yet?"

Ah. It's Adeline. Your friend since you were children, Adeline has been one of your most constant companions throughout your life. This has somehow given her the impression that she can you whatever derivative of your actual name she wants, at any given time.

"I'm busy!" You shout, tapping on your keyboard furiously.

"Hmhmmm? Sounds suspicious~" Adeline says mischievously. "I'm coming in!"

While ideally your locked door would stop her, that previously mentioned familiarity with you also made her think she was entitled to get a copy of your key.

With a sigh, you undo the lock and open the door, leaving Madeline standing there in the doorway, already pulling out her key.

"Just come in."

She grins at you. "Aha! You're learning! Everyone said I couldn't train you, but I knew I could."

With that she quickly steps into the room, then halts, staring at the array of monitors on your desk. "Uh, what are you doing?"

"Either wiping all of my computers, or summoning eldritch horrors from behind the veil of reality." You pause. "Why? What are you doing?"

"Uh, well, I was planning on doing your laundry." She picks up a pair of old boxers and sniffs them. "Which it looks like I'm still going to have to do, but let's talk about your plans first. How do either of those sound endings like a good idea to you?"

You shrug.

"Well, whatever." She peers into your laundry basket, sniffing anything she brings out before chucking it over her shoulder. "I'm doing a light wash right now. Tell me how it pans out."

"Yeah, yeah. Enjoy doing my laundry when I'm ruling the world with an iron fist with my demon legions." You say, tapping the run command.

Simultaneously, all three screens light up. You can just make out flashes of text on a black background, but it's over in moments.

Aaaaand... nothing's happened.

"About what I expected," Madeline smirks, peering over your shoulder. "Looks like I won't be your devoted harem slave quite yet."

Entirely underwhelmed, you turn away from your monitors in disgust. Who'd bother writing a program that complex that did nothi- Oh shit.

A quick scan of your computer shows nothing new added, but that doesn't really comfort you. And Madeline's jibes, including using her fingers to make demon horns above her head and shouting 'Ogabooga!" whenever she enters a room aren't helping. Neither is the daylight streaming through the newly opened blinds

After a moment, you lean back in your chair and groan in annoyance.

You grab your smartphone and the golf club, before pulling a trenchcoat out of your wardrobe.

Made of a thick, green cloth, the old coat belonged to your great-grandfather, a British Captain who served in WW1. While he didn't survive the conflict to make it back across the Atlantic to his wife, his possessions and estate did.

In truth, the coat has a somewhat odd air to it, that makes most people a bit unnerved in it's presence. You've always liked it though.

Now suitably equipped, you march out into the garden, golf club in hand. Glancing around, another flash of movement draws your eyes and you step forward, raising your impromptu weapon menacingly in the air.

"Come out! I know you're there!"

There's a moment of silence. And then someone taps you lightly on the shoulder. You spin, only to find no-one there.

"You're looking in the wrong place, human."

The voice comes from next to your ear, and your head twists instantly. You find yourself face to face with small girl, perched on your shoulder. Very small, in fact. No more than a foot and a half tall.

She cocks her head at you, a small smile on her face.

"He's a big dog, basically." Pixie replies, moving herself your shoulder to be closer to your face. "Really big. Not very friendly to most people either."

Suddenly, a scream pierces the air. It's a familiar voice though. Madeline's.

"Oh. Looks like he found someone."

You take off in the direction of the flat, nearly knocking Pixie off your shoulder with the force of your acceleration. You heart beats fast in your chest as you tear through the garden.

"What are you doing, Charles?" She squeaks. "He'll kill you too if he finds you!"

"Not before I beat the crap out of him," you roar, hefting the golf club. "Can you help me?"

"Help you?" The pixie blinks at you nervously. "I... well... I guess I could. Why are you so determined to fight him though? Just run away. It's easier."

"There's someone important to me in here," you say, throwing open the door. "I'm not going to abandon her."

"Her?" Pixie gives you annoyed look. "This is for a girl?"

"My oldest friend." You reply.

Pixie relaxes somewhat. "Well... Fine. I'll help you help her just this once. But I still think you should run away. Garm's pretty strong, y'know? Sometimes it's stupid to be brave."

"Sometimes you've got to be brave, even if it's stupid," You grin at Pixie, throwing the door to your flat open and charging in.

A smashing sound sounds out from the kitchen and you rush through the small corridor that separates the rooms in your flat, Pixie hot on your heels.

What awaits you is a miserable scene.

Madeline is crawling on the floor, blood flowing freely from a leg that's barely connected to the rest of her body. A knife lays just out of her reach, proof of a futile attempt to defend herself from the monster that now hunts her.

Garm is unlike anything you've ever seen. H's huge, larger by far than any dog you've ever seen, with crimson fur. A broken chains trails from the spiked collar that adorns his throat, and his chest looks like it's armoured with golden scales. He's monstrous. Horrifying. Demonic. A sense of terrible power practically radiates from his every movement. This, you instinctively know, is a consummate predator. A hunter that slays all in it's path.

And he's approaching Madeline, blood dripping from his mouth. As you enter the room though, he turns, a fierce growl reverberating from his throat.

COMBAT MODE ENGAGED

Here's the way this works. Every turn, you have one action for yourself and one action for each of your demonic companions currently summoned.

Current Actions for Charles

>Attack (As it says)
>Guards (Reduces damage. Safer if you roll badly. If the demon completely ignores you, which will rarely happen, then it's a wasted turn)
>Dodge (Riskier than Guard. Allows you to attempt to dodge the an attack. Requires a decent roll to work against demons of equivalent or higher level than you, otherwise you get hit full force. If the demon completely ignores you, or you get that decent roll, then you get a heavier blow than normal against the demon.)

"Pixie! Help Madeline!" You roar, swiping the club to fend off Garm. Pixie gives you a surprised look, then nods, flying over to the injured girl's side. There's something that tickling on your nerves. You can't quite place it, but you /know/ that attacking right now would be a bad idea. A strange calm overtakes you, and the world seems to slow, the burning fighting spirit that has carried you through this fight flickering in your heart.

The crimson hound leaps at you, it's mouth full of fire and blood. Even wounded as it is, it seems invincible, your efforts only spurring it to greater heights of fury.

>COUNTER

But you are not afraid. Your will for battle had not dwindled, merely focused itself. And now, it explodes outwards in a bloodthirsty roar that far surpasses anything the demon before you has ever unleashed.

"I WILL BREAK YOU!"

The shout hits Garm like a wave, breaking it's charge and throwing it to the ground. Even as it drags itself to it's feet, it seems diminished. Weakened. No longer the ultimate predator it was.

"Go." You say calmly at Pixie, as you watch Garm circle you cautiously. There's a certain respect in it's eyes now, the acknowledgment of an unexpected strength in one it had considered it's prey. You wonder how you can understand that so clearly. "Help Maddie."

And with that you dash forward. Garm is still fast though, and even weakened it's evades a full on hit easily. But it's strange, despite fact you only connected lightly, Garm howls in agony, as if pierced by a thousand knives.

>Check on Madeline

You move over to the injured girl. Her eyes have closed again, and given how much she's bleeding, you doubt that's a good thing.

"Pixie, can you heal her?"

The fairy nods, and floats over to the fallen girl. Over the next minute, she casts her Dia spell over and over again.

Pixie's MP: 4

By the time Pixie floats away, an exhausted expression on her face, Madeline's wounds have mostly closed, and her breathing has steadied.

"Thanks, Pixie," you say, offering the demon your shoulder. She flops on it gratefully, but her expression is somewhat guilty.

"Don't thank me too much. I've healed the obvious damage, but there were some wounds my magic isn't powerful enough to reach. That legs a goner."

You stare at the small girl in horror. "There's nothing you can do?"

Pixie sighs, a depressingly mournful expression coming from the cheery fairy. "No. She's a human after all. Humans don't heal from wounds like that perfectly. And I'm not strong enough to force her to do so."

"And what about you?" You swivel on Garm, a note of anger in your voice. "I don't suppose you can heal her? This is your fucking fault after all!"

Garm looks away sheepishly. "GARM CAN'T HEAL."

"Of course you can't," you growl at the hound. "That would be too easy."

"BUT! GARM KNOW WAYS TO FIX GIRL!" The crimson demon responds, more enthusiasm in it's voice now.

"How?" You ask cautiously.

"GARM COULD FUSE WITH GIRL! MAKE HER PART-DEMON! THEN SHE HEAL QUICK!"

Fuse? With Madeline? You're not entirely sure that Garm is talking about, and you're not entirely sure you want to.

"And the other option?"

"GARM MET GODDESS IN LEAFY PLACE WITH BIG BRIDGE! SHE HEAL WOUND IN INSTANT! WILL PROBABLY WANT SOMETHING IN RETURN. MAYBE NOT WORTH IT."

That sounds vaguely like Brooklyn Bridge Park. That's quite a while away.

"Any other ideas?"

"MAYBE YOU WAIT? MIGHT MEET OTHER DEMON WHO CAN HEAL WOUND SOMETIME. GIRL WON'T DIE. JUST CRIPPLE. NO RUSH!"

Wait, could pixie fuse with Maddie? The resulting half demon would probably far less monstrous.
>>
>>27817408

I vote that we wait for Madeline to come to, and ask her what she wants. The fact that she's been injured means she's a part of this, now; might as well explain what we know and get her on board.

Merging with a demon sounds like a dramatic step. If she shies away from that (which she probably will) then I'd like to visit the goddess. Worst case scenario, we refuse a healing bargain and wait until we meet another demon strong enough to help her.

>Wait for Madeline to wake up

You hesitate for a moment, then nod. "I'll wait till she wakes up and ask her what she wants. Garm, could you go somewhere else? I don't think she'll want to see you first thing regardless."

"OK. GARM GO. CALL IF NEED." There's a flicker of light, and Garm vanishes in an instant.

"Where did he just go!?" You nearly shout, stepping back into a defensive pose.

Pixie looks at you oddly. "Don't you have something that can store demons on you? You are a demon summoner, right?"

It only takes a moment thought for you to pull your smartphone out of your pocket. Tapping the icon for the demon summoning program, you see an image of Garm on the screen, with the words 'GARM CHARLES'S BEST FRIEND' on it. Experimentally, you tap the image.

There's another flash, and Garm stands before you, his tail wagging. "YOU NEED ALREADY?"

"No," you shake your head. "That's alright. Go back into the phone, Garm."

Garm gives a bark of acknowledgment, and vanishes again. That's interesting. When you've got the time, it might be worth playing around with whatever other features the program has. The sheer potential boggles the mind.

Fifteen minutes later, Madeline awakens, blinking groggily.

"Madeline!" You kneel beside her. "Are you alright? How do you feel?"

"...'k," She murmurs, "...'at happn'd to the 'mul?"

She's slurring her words heavily, obviously not quite awake yet. Shock, maybe? Gently, you prop her up.

"It's gone. And it wasn't an animal, Madeline. It was a demon."

"Demon?" Madeline peers at you bleerily. "Thing you did work'd then?"

"I don't know if what I did actually summoned it here," you reply. "But it definitely attracted it. I'm sorry, Madeline. This is my fault."

She shakes her head. "S'okay. You've always been a doofus. You owe me though. Big ice cream for this. Chocolate flakes and all."

You smile. "Sure, sure."

"Yeah, about that," You gesture at Pixie. "This is your saviour. Pixie, Madeline. Madeline, Pixie."

Madeline laughs, then winces in pain. "A fairy. An honest to god magical fairy. Well, why not? Thank you, Pixie."

Pixie just shrugs at the praise. "It's fine. Charles asked me to. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise."

Madeline laughs again, and then winces again. "Shit, I've got to stop laughing. Still, she's a real charmer, isn't she? And here I thought I was the only girl in your life."

Out of the corner of your eye, you see Pixie whisper something under her breath at that, before shooting daggers at Madeline. You try to ignore it for now.

"Madeline, I've got a solution for your leg. Two, actually."

She blinks at you, then frowns. "By that guilty look on your face, I'm guessing it involves demons?"

"Well, yes," you admit. "Maddie, your leg is totalled."

"Way to put a cripple down, Charley," Madeline says, a smile on her lips.

"I'm serious, Maddie," you say firmly. "You're not going to heal. Even if I took you to a hospital right now, you'd be lucky if you can ever walk on that leg again."

"I get it, I get it," she sighs. "What are my options then, Faust?"

You ignore the jibe, and tell her.

"Well, you can tell the dog to fuck off for starters." She says instantly. "If his idea of 'apology' is turning me into some kind of half-demon thing, then no. That's not happening. The Goddess though... I could put up with that."

"That's pretty selfish of you, isn't it?" Pixie cuts in. "I mean, Charles is going to have to do something for her before she'll agree to heal you. It's probably not going to be something easy, y'know!"

Madeline frowns at that, but says nothing.

I would ask if Madeline would be willing to fuse with the pixie, but

1) the pixie will balk
2) if she becomes a demon, will she still be capable of controlling other demons?

Madeline is more valuable if she stays fully human - both because she can become a demon summoner, helping to make up for her current state of affairs, and because making her half-demon could be extremely dangerous or damaging to her psyche. As a friend and ally, the right choice is keeping her fully human.

Let's go see the goddess.

She crosses her arms at you. It's a typical Madeline pose. She's going to be hard to budge.

"Why?"

"Because," you say, your voice firm. "I'm not sure that this is a unique event. The guy who sent me the demon summoning program said in the message that he sent it to as many people as he could. So we could prepare for something."

Madeline pales slightly. "You're saying that stuff like this is happening in other places? Right now?"

You nod. "Almost certainly. And if Steven isn't lying, then something worse is coming."

"Shit."

"Yeah. Shit."

"If that's the case," Madeline says, her voice resolved. "Then why don't you lend me one of the things you were using to summon demons earlier? I mean, that's how you defended yourself, right? It doesn't HAVE to be Fusion or nothing."

"You'll still be... injured, Maddie," You insist. "I only defeated Garm because I could fight. I doubt Pixie could have done it on her own."

"I'm still not fusing with that damn dog," Madeline insists.

"Then what about Pixie?"

"Excuse me!?" The fairy shoots you an incredulous gaze. "You want me to do what?"

Demons level up extremely slowly via battle and experience points in the games.

Fusion creates a new demon of a higher level than both starting demons with moves not usually available to the new demon. This is the primary and best method of creating stronger monsters. Basically, monster breeding in which you sacrifice the two parents to gain an awesome child.

It's silly I know but still we don't know what gonna happen in this quest. Move list could still be a problem but this is still all in the air for now. No point in talking about it right now with the information we have.

You shake your head. "Alright, I won't argue with you when you're like this."

Madeline grins. "Good."

"Before we go, we should probably have that chat I promised you earlier, right?" Pixie interjects. "Y'know, about what's going on, demon summoning and all that?"

"That's not a bad idea," you say, nodding. "What can you tell me?"

"Hmhmhm~" Pixie puffs herself up, grinning at you. "Alright, you've already found your demon summoning tool, so reluctant as I am to talk about it, you should probably know a bit about fusion. Now, normally, you'd need some special technology to fuse demons, but whoever made the demon summoning program hardcode an application into it called the Cathedral of Shadows."

You tap your smartphone. Sure, enough it's there.

"With that, you can fuse demons on the fly." Pixie continues, then pauses. "...Or so I've heard. Like I said, you're the first demon summoner I've actually met. This is all second-hand. Much as I hate to say it, experimentation is gonna be the only way to really get to grips with it."

You nod. "Thanks. So one more question: I didn't actually summon you, right?"

Pixie nods. "That's right."

"So who did?"

She poses thoughtfully in the air. "I... don't think it was a person, really. I just remember there being this big rip in the Abyss. I just walked through it, and here I was. I was just wandering around until I felt your ritual."

A rift into the... Abyss? That doesn't sound good.

"The Abyss is where you come from?"

Pixie nods. "Call it the Abyss, the Expanse, whatever you want. It's the homeland of demons."

"And now you're coming here? To Earth?"

Pixie nods again.

Yeah. That really doesn't good. It's pretty clear now what Steven was afraid of.

What remains to be seen is what you can do about it, if anything.

>And done.

>Hacking the program.
Now you're talking.

We need to make Pixie the strongest demon in the world.

SMT: Ghetto demon could be hilarious if slightly racist.

Sunday. It's 5:20 AM where I am, so as much as I'd like to run... later today, it's probably not going to happen.

>>27818972

Nope. Think I should make one?
>>
>>27818996
Yes, you should.

Also, a pastebin with stats and rules. Those will smooth things over a lot.

>Nope. Think I should make one.

>Mitama fusion.
>Incenses.
I'm not too up on mainline SMT; what do these involve?
>>
>>27819018

Right. Made. StoryWalk@SMT_Quest

I'll get the pastebin done later today.

>Shadow Master likes my quest

Nice!

>>27819035

Does the possibility to become that kind of being exist? Yes.

>>27819096

But I'm so tireeeeed. Fine.
>>
Mitama are demons that let you give another demon stat boosts by "fusing" them, but its a special kind of fusion where one demon stays the same. Incense do the same thing in item form.

Thread Archived on suptg. Have fun all.
