Would anybody be interested in a quest based in Deathworld?

Summary from the article: "Deathworld roughly follows our own timeline, up until the Second World War. The Nazis begin their invasion of Western Europe, just as in our world, but for some undetermined reason, Hitler never made the fatal mistake of invading the Soviet Union. This allowed the Nazi war machine to consolidate its grip on Fortress Europe, as well as successfully invading Britain. The uneasy peace lasted up until both sides invaded America which had maintained its glorious isolation during the war in Europe. The Nazis now control the Eastern Seaboard and the Soviets control the West, with a large No-Man's-Land between them, devastated by the war between them. These two super-powers are once again in an uneasy peace, but tensions are high. War back in Europe is mostly prevented by the massive fortifications both sides have built up. The real battlegrounds are elsewhere, in South America and Africa, as well as in the contested central United States.
Worse yet, the Soviets and Nazis, despite their dehumanizing superscience and demonology, are amongst the only powers able to truthfully claim that they are ruled by humans. Their opponents, supposedly "free" are ruled by alien horrors, spirits, Fae beings, and the long dead, if not some combination of the above. Will humanity enslave itself to undo these evils? Or will it be obliterated in the fires of hell and atom?"

I've really taken a liking to the setting, and think it'd be neat to run a quest in it.

>Shadow is a pedo edition

>meet little girl
>spend short time with little girl
>little girl moves to foreign country to attend boarding school
>eleven years later, you visit her in her country
>she's grown into a smoking hot woman
>you fall in love with each other and return to your country together
How is that pedo?
>>
>>27797690
Someone actually fell for such obvious bait.
>>
>>27797690
Because she was a little girl then 24 hours later she was a grown-ish woman.
>>
>>27797402
The QTG is a center of anti-questfaggotry. The last thing the people here want to do is help a new quest.
>>
>>27797690
How about the fact that Shadow('s current consciousness) is actually younger than Abigail?
>>
>>27797711
It was actually 11 years or 2-3 months from the perspective of the characters in question, though.
>>
>>27797709
People actually believe it, though. Whether it's bait or not is irrelevant.

>>27797711
>24 hours later
Except it wasn't. Abby lived in the Archonium for 11 years.
>>
>>27797739
It doesn't really matter if people believe it or not. It was a very weird and awkward thing that happened that could be considered pedo or not depending on how you look at it.

Those who don't like it are calling it pedo. Those who are fine with it aren't calling it pedo. It's just a difference in opinion that's affecting how they see events of the quest.

It's pointless to argue over whether it's pedo or not because that's not really the real problem. It's people liking or not liking things.
>>
>>27797731
>>27797739
>11 Years

You don't know that. You only have her crazy yandere love-spiked words to go on.

It's pretty creepy how quickly /you/ can all go from seeing her as a little girl though.

>there will never be porn of Shadow fucking loli Abby, then Abby hyperaging and /ss/ing Shadow
>>
>>27797806
It actually happened rather gradually. When she first asked we were all "I don't know, this is confusing" and she agreed and they decided to just wait and see what happens. Then 20 threads later something happened.
>>
>>27797831
24 hours is gradual?

>It's pretty creepy how quickly /you/ can all go from seeing her as a little girl though.
So if there was a normal, unambiguous eleven year time-skip, you would insist that Abby is still a little girl because you didn't have to literally read through eleven years' worth of story? That sounds like a personal problem, anon, and I highly suggest seeking professional medical help. Also,

>implying I actually read Shadow Quest
Nope. I was curious about all the hubbub, so I just went over the relevant information to see if the cries of pedo were justified. They weren't.
>>
>>27797806
They are all pedos, there is no point in continuing this discussion.
>Shadow gained his humanity through embracing pedophilia
>Abby spent ELEVEN years unhealthily obsessed Shadow.
The people left in Shadow Quests are not someone i would like to meet in person.
>>
>>27797991
Much too overt, anon. You need to be more subtle.
>>
>>27797991
You make several compelling points.

She's spent 11 years lusting after a clearly autistic creature. What is wrong with the players?
>>
>>27797928
>normal, unambiguous eleven year time-skip,
That would be fine because that's a lot longer than 24 hours.
>>
Now I want to know how shoving a child in a magical Make-a-Waifu closet suddenly makes fucking her okay. She has been alone and unsocialized for 11 years, meaning the mentally she is still a child, if she hasn't degraded into full on feral child by now. In fact, wanting to fuck the not-child Abby is even worse, because she is literally brain damaged and insane now.
>>
>>27798040
Not to mentioned (as oft mentioned by the NO PEDOPHILIA players) she barely spent time with him. There is clearly something wrong about someone who spends a few days with a person and later spends 11 years lusting after said person.
And even more wrong about someone who thinks, "I want to hit that."

Anyway, we should not continue this discussion on /qtg/ is shits up the thread.

The anon I quoted was referring to the players' perception of Abby, not Shadow's.

>>27798086
>alone and unsocialized for 11 years

Pretty sure that's not how brains work, anon. I'll give you that she's probably a little crazy, but you'd have to be at least a little off your rocker to love an eldritch god.

>>27798107
>And even more wrong about someone who thinks, "I want to hit that."
But crazy girls make the best lays, anon. It is known. Falling in love with them, however, is generally not a good idea.

It seems to me that the people crying about pedo see Shadow as some kind of self-insert wish-fulfilment, when they should really see him as a character in a story.

As a random example, Fight Club's relationship between the narrator and Marla was super fucked up on so many levels, but it made for an interesting story and a believable, sweet romance. Writing it didn't make Palahniuk a bad person, and enjoying it doesn't make the readers bad people.
>>
>>27798293
He's making shit up. I'd put SM as one of the few QMs who actually knows how to write decent character interaction. Player suggestions can be terrible but SM doesn't take the bad ones.
>>
>>27798311
Comparatively, this shit over there is indeed less shit than this slightly shittier shit over here.

Let us celebrate the almost not but still shitty, for all we have is shittier.
>>
>>27798317
>Pretty sure that's not how brains work, anon
Theyre not, which is why I said it was the BEST possible outcome of her being shut in a vacuum for 11 years that you could hope for.
>>
>>27798317
But you are not controlling the actions of Narrator and the whole point of that relationship is how fucked up it is. Meanwhile, the anons in SQ seem to think theres nothing at all fucked up about the Abbey situation.
>>
>>27798351
I think you're forgetting the magical world part and the fact that the device is literally designed to make a person come out of it without any internal conflicts holding them back anymore by pitting their different desires and such against each other.

It's a magical grow up device in every sense of the word, not a magical mind fuck vacuum.

>It seems to me that the people crying about pedo see Shadow as some kind of self-insert wish-fulfilment, when they should really see him as a character in a story.
For me reading stories and watching movies usually involves a great deal of empathy. I get lost in the story, for a time i become the character. I assume this happens to other people as well. Each time i read shadow quest i felt with Shadow's decisions. they were all rational, to a point. That point were the pedophilia shit.
I can enjoy watching movies about people being crazy and shit. Because they are believable. In my case i couldn't read Shadow Quest anymore because i could empathize with Shadow anymore.

>>27798418

Not that guy but I'll give an attempt at why I think the quest is good.

The theme of the quest is "it's not about change, it's about choice." The main character grows to like the changes to himself, or at least some of them, and becomes comfortable with his new life since, as an adventurer, it's not all that different from the one he wanted. However, the cursed artifact he's got keeps trying to force more changes he wouldn't be comfortable with on him. It's kind of a fight between magical temptation and legitimate desire for something.

Well, that exhibitionism in the bathhouse was sort of the character and the dress both getting what they wanted at the same time. Though the MC beat down it's influence to be assured it was him making the decision.

>>27799205
MC wants to be adventurer. Gets cursed by erotic artifact that gives him crazy magic powers at the cost of transforming him into a girl and doing even more crazy transformations if he lets it. Goes on an adventure to get rid of the curse. Decides the circumstances of his adventuring career aren't that bad as long as he can find a way to get the voices in his head to stop.
>>
>>27799234
The only downside is that there's a lot of Meta going around, but apologized did a good job challenging the players at every turn.

The funniest part about all the people getting buttrustled over Lamia Quest is that the original writefaggotry was typical /tg/ drivel, and surely no better than whatever the quest was.

Favorite Battle Scene in any quest thus far has been in one of the Fanfic quests.

Ichigo vs Harribel from Bleach Quest
>>
>>27799545
This seemed to be something along the lines of "You're best friend is bleeding out, you should do something to save him!" Then four equally unappealing and uninspired radio buttons.

>>27799573
I haven't read Bleach Quest, that being said my favorite fight scenes are probably from Joker Quest and Totemist Quest.
>>
>>27799603
I always fight the fights in Totemist to be so incredibly dramatic. It's like TTGL but in a magical world where choices make power. I like it.

>>27799581
bleh, that's one of my less favorite battle types even.
Though, I don't like battle even in tabletop. These types of mechanics just aren't fun to me unless you pass the majority of it off to a computer.

So, what quest would people like to see? Sadly, I am not really a good enough writer to run a quest.

I, for one, would like to see the following:

>Reboot quest
With the possibility to play either a guardian, a virus or some net mutant.

>Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne quest
That would basically run itself.

>Final Fantasy Tactics quest

The times when things actually happen are interesting.

Most of the time, things didn't happen. The QM ran it while they were working, and it was slow as everloving fuck.

It could be compressed down very much very easily. Much bloat from stupid arguments and slow pace.

But the QM was actually pretty ok at dialog. Not the best, but far from the worst.

>>27802394
>Let's see... Exabyte and waifus...
NFCQ: Romance, but not enough to be called waifu, since it didn't derail the story and there was only one option anyway.
SORQ1: No romance at all
SCQ: Still locked into romance from NFCQ. Minor argument about haremfaggotry. Mostly ignorable.
SORQ2: Weirdly civil waifu war. Many options, but almost no bitching or derailing. Very strange
VaQ: Standard waifu war.
PsiQ: WARGHBLARGLBLARGLBLARG
AscQ: No romance options, no waifus. Yet.

Psion Quest was a perfect storm of bad decisions which drew a bad audience, creating a spiralling feedback loop of atrocity. You could literally link a newbie QM to the archive and say "Don't do that" and it would be really good advice. Psion Quest was *bad*.

On the other hand, Cyborg Quest was pretty good. I actually quite liked that one.

Putting that aside, nobody likes sluts. QMs, if you are ever in any position to write a female into being a slut, put that notion aside. Forever. Those are terrible people and you've done yourself a disservice by even thinking about it.
>>
>>27802574
You are never obligated to give anything to your entertainment. The moment it stops being fun, you are entitled to stop.
>>
>>27802560
The protagonist was the slut. The only thing stopping her from casually fucking anyone she considered a friend was the fact that it might hurt their feelings.

I think every other character acted pretty reasonably given the circumstances. Except for the thing that made the timetravel retcon shenanigans occur in the first place.
>>
>>27802400
From the outside looking in, I can imagine it was fucking hilarious.

I was at ground zero. I had tried to pull the quest away from waifuing, at the start, but at that point it was too late and I could only watch as autistic neckbeards raped and burned something I enjoyed reading.
>>
>>27802544

PsiQ is honestly Exabyte's worst work. Sorceress Quest, Cyborg Quest and Vale Quest were all much better.

Seriously, it's a blot on his otherwise spotless record.

I highly recommend that you read his other work and try and participate in Ascent Quest. It's really well done and has an interesting combination of mystery, combat and shenanigans.

Read my post again, I never invested myself in psion quest. Its more of after hearing about his quest and seeing its fanbase in action, I decided to have nothing to do with either. >>27802584
An earnestly proposed idea that gained a lot of traction was using the time chamber thingamajig to stop Slutbones from cheating on the MC. It took Exa telling them no to get them to shut up, but they still wanted to do it. Bad.

Just because you're free to do something doesn't make it a good idea. Just because you have a reason doesn't make it a good or just or even valid reason. And if you share your shitty reasons - which you are also free to do - everybody else can tell you that your reasons are shit and that they make you a shit person. They're free to do that too.
>>
>>27802588
Tough shit, holmes, I already have some female characters sketched out and you'll like exactly none of them! Ive got a slut addicted to always having the latest and greatest cybernetics, a paranoid shadowrunner who cant into romantic relationships due to her semi-codependent relationship with a giant insectoid alien, a mildly clingy humaboo alien who is literally venomous as well as poisonous, and a former battlewhore, just to name a few.

Basically, it will be impossible to form a healthy relationship with anyone ever.
>>
>>27802823
It might be my opinion, but I believe that the sheer volume of enjoyment that I get out of reading his work far outweighs the dickishness of his manner on the boards.

It's somewhat similar to Ogre Civ in the way that reading through the threads just puts a huge grin on my face and keeps it there for the rest of the day.

Stay with me here: What if a quest written simply for the enjoyment of the QM and his players? What if fun things were simply fun and nobody would get offended by it?

Not true. She was a New Yorker. She was just attending murder-Hogwarts which happened to be located in a pocket dimension that had a door to it in Romania.

No, but you are throwing quests away. It's understandable for something that died like Sick Quest, but to kill every single quest you've run in one night? Well past /tg/'s, and your, peak? It's clear you're up late, troubled by things.
Don't fuck yourself over because of a bad night, is all I'm asking.
>>
>>27805515

/qtg/ thrives on drama. It was pretty obvious that it would jump all over this gesture.

You're not suicidal? So get over your shitty writer's block and don't spoil every single goddamn quest you've ever tried to run. You'll just regret it later. Kill off most of them, fine, so they don't hang over you. But leave a couple of your favorites. Your personal favorites, not whatever the crowd likes to read, but what you like to write.
>>
>>27805515

Hey, I was talking to you just a second ago. Anyway.

Better to cut cleanly than drag your own guts out for months doing something you don't want to do. Good on you for recognizing what's better for you right now, although I'll definitely miss Waifu Quest.
>>
>>27805515
Like an earlier anon said, theres no need for you to burn all your bridges, going back to past works after a pause or indefinite hiatus is not showing a weakness of character, if you enjoy running them, keep them, let people know that you can't or don't want to run them and maybe one day you'll feel like running one again and will, but don't run them into the ground because you don't want to string /tg/ along. Talk to your players about it, let them understand your position and they'll understand.

It may seem melodramatic, but I'd hate to see you throw away all this and then one day go, "man I wish I didn't kill that and could still run it".
>>
>>27805515
Give us the notes. Forget all those people telling you not to dump them. They're just clinging to quests. Go for it, get it off your chest, and just let it all out. You'll feel better eventually.

>>
So I havent read many of the ones he listed earlier, have any of these been particuarly long running, or do they generally go a few threads then get dropped?
>>
You will be missed, Twen.

May your future be bright, and your memories of this place warm.
>>
>>27805598
So what if the quest dies? You think he won't regret leaving an audience hanging? No, he'll likely get more closure from actually closing them and then he can come back later.
>>
>>27805607
This sounds like a typical writer's episode. He'll be back eventually. I want him to do new stuff with a fresh mind.
>>
>>27805612
What the fuck do you mean come back later?

That runs contrary to the whole point of what he's doing now, doesn't it?

And /tg/ doesn't give a shit about being left hanging. In most cases, they prefer it to closure.

It's the only thing this board has patience for.

King in the North Quest
Rat Cook#Kingeater

King in the North - Robb Stark's body with Grey Wind's head. Remains to be seen what he really is, but he's strong, fast, and vengeful.
Harwin - Ally in Beric's Brotherhood without Banners. Feels guilty at not being able to protect Ned. Wants to help what he thinks is Robb.
Beric Dondarrion - Very tired, honorable man, leads the Brotherhood without Banners. Has nearly forgotten everything of his time before he was with the band. Seeks death. Tries to put on a brave face.
Thoros of Myr - Friend of Beric's. Feels guilty for Beric's condition. Follower of Rh'llor. Aware that there is something very WRONG with the King in the North, but doesn't want to antagonize it for fear of putting Beric and his friends in danger.

The crunch was what did me in here. I wanted to make a full fledged RPG system that was a solo game. I had a set where you had playing cards to draw, leaving only face cards and aces to determine the villains. Hearts were public opinion (Depending on setting, this could mean churches or PR reps or whatever), clubs were military (Blackwater/ashigaru/whatever), diamonds were money (Banks. Can't think of examples, too light headed), and spades were political power.

You would draw from three to five to seven of these cards, depending on length of game to determine the conspiracy that brought you low.

Aces were hidden solos, Jacks were public solos, Queens were hidden leaders, Kings were public leaders. By profile, jacks could fight you toe to toe, aces would be supreme assassins lurking in the shadows, queens would be hard to find as the string pullers, and kings would be surrounded by legions.

There were three stats, and three talent trees based off of them- Form would determine physical abilities and allow you to learn legendary combat arts, mind determines smarts and allows more traditional magics, and soul would determine charm and allow rituals you could teach followers.

Is he the one sticking manga in his pockets?

He does some investigatory work and it ends as expected.

Vizier#Cordoba

I just really like arabesque fantasies. It's my favorite thing that I don't see enough of. I really like reading about Muslim Spain. I thought I'd make it in to a fantasy quest. The Lamb Tribesmen, the Kahin, Al-Sihar.

I didn't go on with that one because I didn't get enough interest. And I still felt a vague sense of irritation at taking up the front page with quests. I collected a lot of pictures for it.

Yea, I like his quests too. I don't feel the need to make sure his feelings are okay. I want him to keep running his quests. If he doesn't want to, fine. He doesn't need anyone to tell him that he is not obligated to do shit for anon. Stop treating him like a little girl.

I'm really hoping I don't have to. I will if Twen does decide.

>>27806310

Sorry. I do hope he keeps running it. I'm just telling him that it's not a burden in case he decides to.
>>
>>27806315
I'm pretty sure his plan is to do nothing, because he hopes Twen will feel better, and either continue the quest or take a hiatus, which, and I cannot stress this enough, is FINE.

Damn, apparently a lot of good quests are being canned.
Also apparently one man was secretly running a lot of quests.

>Terra Formars
"With the space program attempting to travel to Mars, 21st century scientists were tasked with warming up the planet so that humans could survive on its surface. They came up with an efficient and cost effective plan of sending cockroaches and mold to the surface so that the mold would absorb the sunlight and the insect corpses would serve as a food source for the mold. It is now the year 2577 and the first manned ship to Mars has landed on the planet and the six crew members are ready for their mission. But what they find are giant mutated humanoid cockroaches with incredible physical strength. The crew members are easily wiped out, but not before sending a transmission back to Earth. Now, humanity will send elite warriors to exterminate the mutated bugs and claim back Mars."
That mite b cool.

No offense to Decu and all, but I just don't care for his writing and the MGNQ fanbase grates on me. I would rather Twen just kill it if he is done running it than hand it off to someone else.
>>
>>27807522
The players will probably figure out that everyone will die and won't give a crap about anybody they meet. The far more likelier outcome is that they'll attempt to save everyone they meet only for the bugs to kill them off, which'd cause ginormous butthurt.

>I would rather Twen just kill it if he is done running it than hand it off to someone else.
I, for one, like it simply because it's done so rarely and I'm curious how it'll go. The other alternative would be archelon but he didn't offer and has enough bullshit to deal with quest wise as it is.
>>
I'm noticing something QMs are doing a lot and it needs to stop:

If you say "First three rolls" or "First five rolls", you DON'T get to count a critfail that happened eight rolls away. Or one that happened when you didn't even ask for a roll.

That's a huge dick move, mr QM.
>>
>>27807899
>If you say "First three rolls" or "First five rolls", you DON'T get to count a critfail that happened eight rolls away.
Haven't seen that happen yet.
> Or one that happened when you didn't even ask for a roll.
It's okay if you state that it will be counted.
>>
>>27807920
>Haven't seen that happen yet.

I see it happen ALL THE TIME, mostly from QMs who think the failure is funny. If it's only first of X rolls, then it's not acceptable.

If it's three-highest like some people do, then it's acceptable, any other time it is not.
>>
>>27807938
It's annoying, yeah. Lack of clarity is annoying in general.
>>
>>27807899
>Or one that happened when you didn't even ask for a roll.
Ive seen QMs do this to get people to stop randomly rolling, since if those people get a 100/20/whatever, they will try to circumvent everyone else and claim that their vote is the only one that should count and that it should autosucceed since "the dice gods will it" or whatever. Questers can get pretty scummy when they want to win.
>>
>>27807968
This is actually a good point.
>>
>>27807968
This. If you allow players to get away with bullshit you will only invite more bullshit. Always, with no exceptions.

>>
>>27808019
Not same guy. It's not the color that bothers me just the entire thing. It's so untraditional. Like it should be read on a tablet.

Doesn't really matter, anyway. The stuff there is really /a/-centric. Not my cup of tea.
>>
>>27808019
Wikipedia makes it work but I'm not fond of it. Nytimes I don't read too often but the layout works in its favour. Akun is just way too much un-used white space for me.

>>27808047
I actually like /a/-centric stuff because I like character focused stories. It's just that it's hard to enjoy the site with the aforementioned flaws.

>It's so untraditional.
I like that in fact, it's a nice change of pace. I also like that you don't NEED to register.
