You pull away your smartphone from your ear and glance down at its screen, the smiling face of Tomoe Mami beaming up at you with LED-backlit brilliance.

You've never lied to her before. Now, you're about to.
>>
>>27701305

…Well, there was that one time, when you told her you were training Kumatora, when in fact you simply ditched the trainee Eversor and holed yourself up in your apartment with three stolen bottles of Kong and enough painkillers to kill five grown men.

Then there was that time when you lied about Kyoko setting you on fire, grumbling that someone got lucky with a Molotov Cocktail instead, sparing the red-headed Eversor from a heartfelt lecture that could drive even Kirika to tears. Not because of boredom, because of having your entire soul shattered at the concept of disappointing someone so patient, so forgiving, that her crying because of you alone made you want to crush your own Soul Gem underfoot instead.

…Alright, so you're not really innocent on the whole 'not lying' thing. But you're trying. You haven't lied to her very recently, as far as you can remember.

Maybe.

You don't know.

But not telling her something isn't the same as lying to her, right?

Tomoe Mami doesn't need to know that you're trying to reschedule because Hanegawa Midori asked you out for dinner tomorrow night, right?

"Chiaki-san?" Mami's voice floats up from the phone's receiver, tinny and small in this distance. You hold the device back up to your ear, and you state your case.

"…Breakfast or lunch…?" She echoes you as you finally finish, and you swallow audibly as you hear her shuffling papers around. "Mmm, I'm sorry, Chiaki-san, but I'm kind of booked all day. There's a lot to do, and I don't think I can sneak out long enough for us to have fun together. What's wrong with dinner, anyway?"

It's here, then, that Mami's voice takes on a rather mischievous tone.

"Or…is Chiaki-san trying to subtly reschedule because she's having someone else for dinner?"

How did she--crap. CRAP!

"Murderface?" Sayaka turns towards you, one eyebrow quirking upward. "What's up with you? You started shaking all of a sudden."

How do you respond?

Yep, these are done by me. Midori has already been drawn. I guess NECO just wanted to show off the Mami one after I rushed to finish it last night.

Midori will get her turn later, I guess? I really don't keep track of the time myself so the original idea was to have something to help myself and others with that.
>>
>>27701541
Right, but usually, when I see detached sleeves, there is no sleeve left on the original top, often leaving armpits exposed. In this case, however, it is different. So I was wondering if there was another name for just the skin around the bicep, or if this was included in "detached sleeves". You know, so I can be accurate in describing my new fetish.

You wave Sayaka off, feeling a cold sweat break out all over you as you sheepishly admit the truth to Mami. Yes, you are in fact trying to reschedule, because Midori…well, she also asked you out for dinner tomorrow night. You're…you're not exactly sure why you thought she wouldn't understand, why you thought you needed to lie about it in the first place. …You're really, really sorry about that.

Time seems to slow down to an almost interminable crawl, and for once it's not because of your Shield at all - rather, it's because Mami seems to go quiet at your response, with only the sound of shuffling paper coming from the other end of the line. Your throat goes dry and you feel your chest tighten as you unconsciously hold your breath, waiting for something, anything, hoping against hope that the next words coming from the blonde wouldn't be…well, her telling you how much you've let her down again.

"…Oh, Midori?" The blonde's voice sounds…pleasantly surprised, instead of the heartbreaking disappointment you were expecting. "Is she the one trying to steal you away from me, Chiaki-san?"

W-what? Steal away…? N-no, you were just…uh…

You turn to Sayaka, horrified at what you're hearing - and the blue-haired Eversor merely frowns at your expression. "Ugh, what are you doing, Murderface? Making faces? Yeah, really mature--"

"It's fine, Chiaki-san!" You hear Mami say a few moments after she'd stopped giggling. "Seriously, that was all you needed to say! Honestly, I was wondering when you'd take her out somewhere nice yourself - in fact, I was going to use our dinner to nudge you in that direction, just in case you forgot !"

O-oh? Mami was going to do that…?

"Yes, and it looks like I won't have to!" Another giggle. "Chiaki-san, I'm flattered you thought of my feelings, but please consider what it would've been like if I found out your real reason of rescheduling from someone else. What would you have felt if our situations were reversed, if Chiaki-san asked me out on a date, and I rescheduled without telling you the real reason?"

…You'd feel pretty shitty about it.

"See?" Mami's voice here now carries a mild tone of admonishment. "Granted, I can't scold you too much, since I didn't exactly ask you out, more like simply had Kyuubey-san pass my invitation on…but still, Chiaki-san, even if you know someone's going to get hurt by you telling the truth, you should do so anyway - because keeping the truth from them's going to hurt a lot more in the long run, especially when they find out."

Right. Okay. You'll remember that.

S-so, uh. When would your dinner with Mami be, then?

"Hmm…well, I'm not so sure, but I'll notify you in advance when I get some time off, alright, Chiaki-san? Tomorrow night was supposed to be my night off, that's why I asked you. But, hmm, I'm sure I'll find something else to do." Another giggle. "Ah, how are you and Sayaka-chan? Are the both of you behaving?"

Y-yeah. Yeah, you're both fine. She just finished healing you, in fact.

"Ah, please thank her for me, Chiaki-san, even if you have already." More shuffling of paper, and then a sudden beeping noise in the background. "Oh, there goes my alarm! I have to go now, Chiaki-san, I have dinner arrangements! Good luck with the rest of your operation, and please congratulate Midori for me!"

Dinner arrangements? Er…sure. Yeah. That's fine. You'll do that.

Mami cheerfully says her goodbyes, and you return them just before she clicks off. You look at your smartphone for a few moments more, before shoving it back into your inventory. Burying your face in your hands.

We should have just told Midori to have dinner the night after, and kept Mami's date.
Now we lost Mami points, she's disappointed in us again, and get no pancakes.
NO. PANCAKES.

All because we couldn't tell Midori we already had plans, and to just push her date back by a day.
>>

"Everything okay, Murderface?" Sayaka pipes up again. "Hey, did I miss a wound or what? Do you need some more healing?" You feel a firm hand on your shoulder. "Hey, Murderface. Don't die on me now, fuckface."

You're fine, you growl at her, shrugging her hand off. You just need a moment or so.

It's here, then, that you hear someone's loud, cheerful, usually-autotuned-to-hell voice coming from behind you, along with a patter of hurried footsteps. Calling your name.

"Well, better enjoy that moment quick, because the client's here." Sayaka glances at her wristwatch. "Huh. So we're nearly finished with all the song numbers? That's…I thought we were going pretty fucking fast, but not this fast."

Well, that's both good news and bad news, isn't it? You shake your head, before reaching up in order to make sure your Warmaster Cap's on straight. Sighing deeply, you stand up in order to receive the superidol - until, of course, you're very nearly knocked down by Iori flying at you from out of fucking nowhere and hugging you tight.

No words from her, here, just her crying into your bloody costume. Her arms wrapped around you in a tight, crushing grip.

"Chiaki-chan!" Ruri reaches you a few moments later, breathless from the jog, her eyes wide and glowing, her smile so wide it should be a grin. "Oh, man, why didn't you tell me you were going to steal the show like that?! I could've arranged the entire show around that exhibition! Everyone's rechirping and reflagging THAT part of the concert like crazy!" The superidol is completely ecstatic, waving both her arms energetically, this way and that - enough that one long, heavy-looking twintail whaps a certain pale-faced Deepthroat in the face. "Our Blu-Ray preorders are through the roof the moment that happened!"

Technically it's until Ruri gets to the airport.

It's not the combat style they use, it's more of the role they play in a squad. You could be a mainly magic user but still be an Eversor if your magic is only useful at close range.

>>27702617
>Upon contracting, the Incubator would assign the fresh contractee her rank, whereupon her training, care and support would depend on. The ranks are as follows:

>Eversors: Magical Girls specializing in close-quarters combat, or melee.
>Vindicares: Magical Girls specializing in long-range combat.
>Culexus: Magical Girls specializing in anti-magic countermeasures.
>Callidus: Magical Girls specializing in stealth, subterfuge and espionage.

You watch as Iori's retreating form disappears behind a gaggle of extras, the brown-haired idol shouldering aside a few as she continues to run. Before you could turn back to the other idol addressing you - the latter markedly much more annoying than the former - it's here that you see Sayaka step forward, taking her own blood-spattered gloves off.

"I'll go." The blue-haired Eversor's voice is somewhat resigned, somehow, but also carries with a note of relief. "Stay here, keep watch on the principal. Alright?"

You silently nod at this, before quietly thanking her.

"…Yeah." Sayaka shakes her head, before heading out, calling the brown-haired idol's name as she does so. One extra gets in her way, and gets very nearly knocked into the floor if it weren't for his fellow extras cushioning the impact. Leaving you alone with your client, who seems to have also taken in the strange scene.

"She'll get over it, Chiaki-chan." Ruri's voice is soft, uncharacteristically tender. "I know she doesn't look it - no idol looks it - but we're made of really tough stuff. At least, in here." She points to her chest, right above her heart. "We can't fall in love with just anyone, and even if we do, we have to live with the fact that it's just not possible." The super idol shakes her head mournfully. "Two, maybe three days alone, and she'll be okay. We take this idol thing seriously, you know."

…Where'd that come from, all of a sudden? She was asking you about your gauntlets earlier, like some kid hopped up on pure sugar. Could she at least warn you beforehand if she's going to switch personalities on you like that?

"Can't, that's part of the appeal!" She winks at you, all sobriety gone, replaced with her typical idol bounciness and cheer. "And if you'll note, that was my Wise Beyond Her Years voice! Right now I'm in the I Can't Believe My Super Idol Is This Cute In Person voice!"

[1/2]
>>
>>27702826

Yeah. You can tell. Anyway--

"I still have to ask about those cool punchy things, though! Really, where are you hiding them?" She looks around and behind you. "How are you lugging 'em around?! And how do they feel like? Don't they weigh you down a whole lot when you're using them?!"

…You explain here, to the ecstatic idol, that….well, the gauntlets are magic. That's it. You can't really describe how they work, because she'd never get it, and you're pretty sure it's classified to non-Officio people.

And no, she can't wear them or try them out.

That last bit nets you the saddest-looking pout from the super idol, one that you actually had to look away from. Not because it's working, but because you feel insulted that she think it'd actually work on you. For fuck's sake, you're not that big of a pushover.

"…Well, they're still cool, anyway." Ruri says after a moment, taking a seat on the bench you'd been resting on - and you find yourself taking a seat too. "How did it feel, though? Using that kind of thing?" It's here that you catch the faintest hint of hesitation on the idol's voice, as if unsure on how to continue here but doing so anyway. "…It kind of looked like you were really having fun, earlier, Chiaki-chan. But in a sort of...scary way."

How do you respond?

(let's not start this up again, please)
>>
>>27703149

>>
>>27703149
>>27703233
She's just no fun to read. That was the only thing she had to do to draw my ire.
>>
>>27703233
I seem to remember she started getting hate long before bonding with Midori in the interrogation room way back when, so I don't think comparisons there is the root of it.
>>
>>27703231
She would have, meguca or not. Only reason she didn't is because we didn't bring her along.
>>
>>27703233
Her original crime was being a bitch when we were trying to do our job. Granted, that was still in the grumpy smokey drunk stage, but she still was still a bitch.
>>
>>27703231
So you hold not going to Siberia against Iori, when she wouldn't have been allowed there anyway, and as for being generally useless and screaming:
1. first time in the hotel suite; we were generally useless and sitting in the recliner until Pinky got us out of Midori's illusion.
2. second time, we were fighting Kilgore and not even Kyouko was able to do much to him, and I don't see you saying Kyouko is useless; we needed Tiny Pete and an anti-material rifle.
3. she wasn't brought to Siberia so of course she couldn't jump into a Witch Barrier after us.

>>27703294
That's a matter of opinion, so I'll let it slide.
>>
>>27703304
It's because it was a very one-sided love of a silly little girl with her bodyguard.

(NO MORE IDOL MISSIONS)

(EVER)

>>
>>27703304

nah, Iori was fine even at the interrogation scene. When she overheard the Soul Gem licking and reacted badly, many voted in favor of calling her to explain right away, but giving her time to calm down won out.

She started getting backlash when we went to the mansion to say goodbye and she gave Chiaki the cold shoulder. That was the point at which attitudes generally soured towards Iori
>>
>>27703294

I would like her to be something that will help ground Chiaki to reality in her increasingly mind-fuck of a life. Not something I can fully entrust to another magical girl who is walking into the darkness with us. Just one normal friend.
>>
I think the problem people has with Iori is that she gets rather emotional whenever we try and do something that upsets her. Its more than Chiaki can be bothered to deal with.
>>
Near as I can tell Iori was just cold at the wrong times and clingy at the wrong times and that was the end of that, hate forever.
>>
>>27703149

I really didn't like Midori or Iori at all. The change was basically the Siberia arc and the Midori PoV change.

So, I guess if Iori manages to rescue us from a witch barrier in the future with her own PoV thread, maybe I'll warm up to her.

>>
>>27703322
>>27703333
I don't even hate Iori; but the thing is?

She's not a magical girl, and if she did jump in that witch barrier, she'd have been stupid and have died. And her becoming a magical girl is a terrible idea for everyone involved.

The tl;dr version: Iori's not a good person to get involved with for all parties; she fell in love with an idolised image of Murderface who saved her, was jealous and upset when she found out Chiaki was involved with others, bitched around and moped, and even had she a more amenable attitude STILL would not be a good idea to get involved with; because she'd still be useless and shouldn't become a magical girl and has her own life to lead.

>>27703340
Chiaki's life is never going to be normal; what she needs is someone who's less likely to get ganked by a mook with a gun.
>>

Does our Yuu have the tail? Can we gain a proficiency with it and use it in combat? If we get good enough with her, do you think we could pull off the 4 arm thing.

That would probably require a double stack of Yuus FotFA I think. Or let her take over entirely.

They've been burnished black, with the gold underneath.

Which is a little worrying, as this implies that the Gifts can be hidden in that manner.

No, the gauntlets have been described as black over gold. After too much punching or blocking, the black peels off to reveal gold.

What is the "4 arm thing"?

That's actually a good point.
We should experiment by trying to spraypaint Muramasa with black paint.
We can see if the hiding of the gold sheen has to be a property of the weapon or not.

We have reason to suspect, but we have just as much reason to doubt. That being that Yuu is the original user of the gauntlets. Yuu is a girl in her source material. Only a magical girl can be the original users of a golden weapon.

That's how it stands now, Decu has not told us if magical shonen exist.

I don't really care either way. Yuu is Yuu, and Yuu is a good girl. Even if HE is a good girl.

Fun? You slouch forward again, taking your own glasses off momentarily to rub the fatigue out of your eyes with your blood-caked fingers. It's…no, you've never thought of it as fun. You're not going to lie, there is some small part of you that enjoys hurting people, but the way bigger part of you considers it a job. A paycheck. A way to earn your salary. It's like Ruri with her singing gig - she gets paid to sing autotuned shit, you get paid to hurt people. And protect them from time to time. Simple as that.

"…Is it really that simple, Chiaki-chan?" Ruri murmurs, her tone curiously pensive. "You don't look like the sort who thinks money's really important." You turn to her, one eyebrow quirking upward questioningly, and she smiles.

"Oh, you know what I mean." The green-haired super idol nudges your freshly-healed ribs with a gentle elbow. "You're not like the other Magical Girls I hired before. You don't obsess over your own image, you're not checking your smartphone every ten seconds, and you're not tripping all over yourself trying to, you know, impress me or make nice with me, and all. You're not…" The idol makes a cyclical gesture with a hand, her delicate fingernails painted a bright electric green shining as the light from the corridor hits each one.

"…hungry, in that kind of way. You're hungry to prove yourself, or…or to make sure someone close to you isn't disappointed. I mean, Warmaster and everything, that's pretty important, right? You don't get to that kind of rank without a whole lot of experience, yeah?" She turns to grin at you. "Did I get Chiaki-chan right, or what?"

…You're not going to say she got everything wrong, but what's this about? Is she trying to analyze you now?

[1/2]
>>
>>27703796
Not trying to shitstorm, but we really have no reason to suspect because on all our previous encounters we treated her like a girl, she acted like one and responded to it.

Why do they eject ENTIRE unspent rounds and not empty casings?
>>
>>27703802

"I did say I wanted to learn more about you, Chiaki-chan, remember? That's what I'm doing." Ruri makes a triumphant sound, here, crossing her arms underneath her ample chest. "And honestly, trying to do that's been as easy as stirring dried concrete! Sometimes you're an easy read, sometimes I can't even predict what you're about to do!"

Hnh. Well. You'll count that as a good thing, considering keeping hostiles guessing is kind of part of the entire deal.

You do note, however, that she didn't even ask if you were alright. And for someone who was moments away from death, earlier, she bounced back really quickly.

"…Chiaki-chan, I'm a Super Idol. The only one in the world, and the best there is." Ruri shakes her head at you. "This isn't the first time something like this has happened, you know! Us idols are walking targets no matter where we go. Whether it's a charity concert or a fundraising or an album launch, some idiot gets it into their head that it'll be nice to kill or rape or kidnap one of us, just to show how big his balls are." She lets out a sigh, here. "Yayoi-chan and Iori-chan aren't special cases, you know. And it's not just Tojo Group trying to get me into their family as some sort of breeding…thing." She makes a face, here. "I wouldn't say we've got it just as dangerous as Magical Girls, but I'd say we're kind of close!"

Right. If it was that dangerous, though, why continue? She's probably rich enough to retire at her age, right? Enough money to last three lifetimes?

"Five, actually," Ruri giggles, before suddenly leaning in closer, her voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper. "But…I'll let you in on a little secret. It used to be all for the money, at least in my case. But then, I met someone, and that changed. Now…" She leans back, a self-satisfied smile on her face.

There's a moment of silence between the both of you, and before you could reply, Deepthroat sidles up to the idol and whispers something in her ear. Ruri blinks at this, before jumping up to her feet. "Oh, I didn't know it was already Encore Time! I forgot!" She twirls in place, once, before posing in front of you. "Alright, time to get this concert wrapped up! Wait for me, Chiaki-chan, I just have a few new songs to plug, and then we're good to go!" And with that, she runs off, Deepthroat in tow. You almost make to follow her, until you see the tell-tale glow of Enishi shadowing her - along with two of Squad Hiryu at her heels.

You sit back down on the bench, feeling more tired than you've ever been. Letting out a sigh, you take off your Warmaster's Cap, placing it on your lap, and listen to the crowd get kicked into high gear again with one of Ruri's songs starting up.

…You hope Iori's okay. You made it clear to her that you only wanted to be friends, so maybe…maybe this approach will help cement that.

You frown, here, as you realize that by hugging you, she got blood all over her costume, too. Which probably would NOT have helped. Ugh.

"While I don't condone my agents - including my Warmaster - slacking off while being on duty, I think you can be excused this time, Matsuda." It's here that Kyuubey's voice rings clearly in your head like an alarm bell, causing you to stiffen up in surprise. "It's not everyday you fight off a principal assassination attempt in front of a live stadium audience. And stylishly at that."

Damn bastard mutant cat, what's he doing here?!

"Hm?" Kyuubey tilts its head to the side as it looks at you. "I arrived with the conveyance you requested, the one to take your prisoners back to the Headquarters for interrogation. I wasn't doing anything else at the time, so I thought to check up on you personally, see how my Warmaster's doing."

…Well, if that's all he's up to, then sure. You shake your head, rummaging in your inventory for your spare pack of cigarettes- the other spare you kept around in case your first spare got stolen, or something. The cigarillo you were smoking earlier already nothing more than a bitter memory on your tongue. You find your squashed, double-spare pack, and you coax a bent cigarette from it. A click from your zippo and a puff of smoke, and you could breathe again.

If he's looking for a debriefing, then he'll have to wait until the mission's over.

"About that." Kyuubey turns back to the baseball field, his round crimson eyes glinting with the spark of fireworks being released into the air as the encore continued. "I've received word from 2020 Productions - Kirishima's agency and our de facto client - that they will be cutting the operation time by half. Meaning, the mission ends formally tomorrow morning."

Tomorrow morning…? But there's another concert tomorrow, right?

The Incubator shakes his head. "2020 Productions has decided that the current climate, as it is, is not safe for Kirishima. The official excuse, which will be released to news agencies tomorrow, is that Kirishima has come down with a temporary illness that requires a lot of bed rest. There will be refunds, I imagine, and televised apologies. Of course, they're still paying for the entire duration - this was after the contract with us was signed, after all." He looks at you. "I'm sure you're very disappointed. You were looking forward to spending more time with the principal, weren't you?"

How do you react?

As somebody else who didn't know shit about Madoka before coming in here, I don't think Iori has an equivilant. Midori is apparently visually based on some character named Shion (I think) from some other series I haven't seen either.

Not all the characters are Madoka characters. the returning cast is mostly here, then there's a bunch of originals, some loosely based on other shows, at least in appearance.

Well Kharn said that we might need another, final treatment some time. If these effects still show up after some more training, we probably do need it.

How could Chiaki possibly forget someone like you?

It's hardly fair, then this watermelon comes rolling out of nowhere and tries to get stuck on Chiaki's radar by doing some silly self-sacrifical martyrdom tier stuff.

Friends with poor survival instincts are generally the first go.

We should just tell Midori the truth when we meet her for dinner tomorrow, she doesn't even stand a chance.

They're from Kill la Kill produced by Trigger, who did the famous Little Witch Academia.

It's "supposed" to be the anime that will save anime.

I've watched it, I love it, but I don't think it's going to save anime on it's own.

If someone in japan felt like recording it on a camcorder in the theatre, and you feel like watching that, then sure.

Have fun.

If you don't, it's still a 5 day wait.

You're missing the part where Trigger is made of ex-Gainax staff, and KlK is packing the writer and director of Gurren Lagann.

I didn't feel the need to expound information that would likely be lost on someone who was unfamiliar with anime enough to not recognize Kill la Kill for what it is or who produced it.

Thank you for adding constructive content to the coversation though.

>No Story

wait what. I understand the faces... but no story?
>>
>>27705303
Characters are not worth shit without a story that makes them.

>>27705317
I never watched it fully, I just couldn't, but as far as I understand it it had dozens of endings, all of them invalidating everything that came before.
>>
>>27705352
Those were separate continuities.
>>
>>27705352
Well, yes. But in the end there is one real ending... except on Umineko, jerks gave an finished ending even after saying who was the one actually behind everything.
>>
>>27705377
Then make separate animes.

>>27705383
So as I was told it is not worth watching as it's just one massive clusterfuck of stories, because the author was to indecisive to choose ONE story and instead just shoved everything he could think of into one anime.

Each their own i guess. the reason it apparently ends several times it's because multi-worlds.

It's still a decent mystery anime at least.

>>

That's... not true. It's complicated and slightly spoilery, but each route is something between an alternate universe and a time loop. Rika, the blue-haired loli is the one aware of the loop, and is trying to find/create an iteration that doesn't end with everyone dying horribly.

I was talking about Umineko. Higurashi had an odd ending, but it worked.
>>
>>27705528
Sounds horrible. Not as horrible as I was let to believe, but still far out of my comfort zone.

Thank you for clearing this up. I will now stop discouraging others from watching it.
>>
>>27705547

Nah, that's not Umineko. That's Higuraishi. Higuraishi was fucking great.

Umineko was pretty bad though.
>>
>>27705546
>>27705547
>>27705571
I thought the main discussion was still Higurashi.

Umineko, I think, took the same sort of alternate universe/time loop and had the main character from the first loop observing the rest and try to prove that the murders were done mundanely and all of the magic he's seeing was embellishment by the narrator/self-proclaimed witch who is presenting to him the rest of the loops.

I only watched the anime for Umineko, but I heard the VNs were all pretty good except for the last one.
>>
>>27705624
Yes and no... considering the state and knowledge of the main characters (Rika / Battler) regarding what on earth was going on.

With only a few posts, this much is possible for Furudo Erika.

What do you think, everyone?
>>
>>27705765
I think that I don't even know, nor care to know, who that is.

YFW you realise Midori only survived because of her Wish ("to be loved")

YFW you realise that despite her Callidus background, when push comes to shove, Midori is every inch the image of the "traditional" magical girl.. just like in her wish. She saved Chiaki largely with the Power of Love, and in the monent of her total defeat she pulled an upgrade from her ass (or, in this case the Goddess of Magical Girls)
>>
>>27705896
We don't even have a face? Subtle.

>>
>>27705991
We still don't have a face. Is nobody concerned with that?

Midori already has everything she wished... Shit.
>>
>>27705896

Upgrade? I thought she just got an endorsement from two very Important People.
>>
>>27705991
YFW you realise the wishes of two magical girls were enough to create a time loop that could rip the very fabric of the universe asunder, and in the current universe we have in excess 20, 000.
>>
>>27706013
C'mon, anon. You know upgrades never persist outside the movie they debut in
