First, a quick apology for those that care. I know I said I'd do this yesterday and I put it off until today, but I was seriously burnt out and in no condition to run much of anything. Sorry about that.

Previous thread archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/27633790/
-------------------------------
The World. The most popular online game on the planet, boasting billions of players-- a number that's only grown after the end of the Second Network Crisis. This game, which offers unmatched adventure and camaraderie, has many mysteries. As a new player of The World, the man behind the controller of the Long Arm, Themopylae... what will you bring to The World? Happiness? Sorrow? Or, perhaps....
------------------------------

Well, the other day, things could have gone much better. You've spent a good deal of time since then familiarizing yourself with the controls of The World, and now feel confident enough to give things another go.

Briefly, you consider how embarrassing it would be if the armored girl from the other day saw you online again. But, a game like The World has so many players... what are the chances that you'll meet again?

First taking a quick look at your Inbox, you see that you have received no new E-mails. You put your HMD on and...

You decide to check the forums for any information that might be useful. There are a variety of threads open, ranging from "How can I beat this monster?!" to "Join my party!" to "What the heck's a Grunty?!"

In regards to areas a beginner might want to check out, one topic in particular sticks out. Aptly titled "Area for noobs?", it reads:

(I don't mind. Hopefully, if I run this better than last time, we'll pick up more people as we go.)

You decide to check out the topic titled "Join my party!". This topic has actually received no replies as of yet, and looks to have been posted very recently.

For the moment, you decide to put any notion of an event area behind you. You've gotta get better at the game before you can even think about events, and that can only happen one way: by jumping head first into action and getting your feet wet!

Leaving the forums, you log in to The World. After the brief loading screen, the familiar sight of Mac Anu greets your eyes. Turning to face behind you, the Chaos Gate hums quietly as it spins in place.

Since you only have one set of area words right now...

You decide to plug in the three area words you have first, and check the area's parameters. If it's no good, you could try some stock words that newbies start off with... but luckily, these appear legit. It's a level 2 area, perfect for a new player.

Selecting warp, a series of golden rings of runes form around your character. As they pass upward, your character model fades, and you connect to the area...

The field appears to be a rough-looking highland area, the sky bathed in a perpetual sunset, draping the fields and trees in a pleasant orange hue. After taking the visuals in for a moment, you begin surveying your surroundings. Aside from some nearby portals which may contain monsters, you notice a bird circling something up to the north, though from this distance you can't quite make out what.

You decide to head north, keeping an eye out for magic portals along the way. Hopefully, you can get some combat in... and those hopes are quickly repaid when you discover one such portal lying between you and your destination. From the distance you've covered so far, you can make out that the bird appears to be circling some sort of stone structure, low to the ground.

First, however, you need to deal with whatever lies in this portal. Already of a mind for combat, you ready your spear and...

You decide to rush in strong and fast, and begin dashing forward as the portal bursts open, revealing a single goblin. It goes to ready its sword, but you're far too quick for it- it barely has time to prepare itself before you thrust forward, gouging the beast with your spear. An easy victory, though it drops no items upon death. It looks like this really is a good field for a new player...

Continuing north, you reach your destination. A staircase leading down a large, rectangular pit of stone that descends downwards into the ground, its earthen steps descending into the darkness. It appears you've found the entrance to this area's dungeon.

You descend down into the darkness, opening your minimap. It should be fairly easy to track your position now.

You open the chest, and obtain one Sprite Ocarina from the box. This can be used to escape the dungeon, but is a one-time-use item. Useful, as you cannot leave a field while still within a dungeon-- and, this is the only one you have so far. Recalling the instruction manual, items such as the Sprite Ocarina and other useful things may be sold in town.

As for now though, you tuck it safely in your inventory, and look around. Just as indicated on the minimap, to the south is the stairs up. Since you're on the first floor of the dungeon, that would take you back to the field. There is one entrance to another room to the north, as designated by the protrusion from the room on the map.

>>
>>27684736
No. I've ditched that in favor of no rolls for mundane actions, and rolls when in combat or a similarly tense situation.

I'm on the fence about rolls when exploring a dungeon. If we decide to keep doing dungeons like this after this thread, I might use a system where the most popular action decides where we go, and the highest roll of five or crits decide what's in the room itself.

It reels backwards from your spear and seems to recover its composure, and is now a few steps out of your current range- an issue that shouldn't be too hard to solve with the agility of a Long Arm.

An interesting question. Just who are you, and just what do you do outside of this game?

Perhaps, in time, you'll be able to answer this. As for the character sheet, I'll whip a basic sheet up and throw it on pastebin or something.

>To the east!
You enter the room to the east and find a player, overwhelmed by three goblins. Two are in melee range, and a third in the back appears to be a spellcaster, occasionally conjuring small boulders from the sky at her. The girl, on the other hand, is also a Long Arm- and she's pretty skilled, by how she's dodging just about everything that comes her way. It's obvious that she's at a disadvantage, however. When one of the goblins does manage to land a hit on her, it looks like it hits fairly hard. She can't be much more than your level.

...Wait a minute... Now that you look closely, she looks awfully familiar. Isn't she the armored girl from the other day? ...Well, now that you're also stuck in here, should you help her?

You decide to charge in and help out, readying your spear and working to quickly close the distance between the door and the spellcaster in the rear. As you rush past her, the girl seems to recognize you.

"...What're YOU doing here?!"

...Sounds like she's either surprised, or not at all happy that you're here. In any event, you dart past her, quickly closing in on the spellcaster as she fends off the other two goblins on her own.

However, as you close in, the goblin wizard draws back with surprising celerity. Looks like it avoids close combat, but with your speed you might be able to give chase.

...Looking back at the girl, it appears that at least distracting the caster has taken a lot of worry off of her. She's handily evading the attacks of both of the goblins, and counterattacking when she can.

Luckily for you, wizards are not the sturdiest of monsters. While they're good at assault from a distance, their physical defense is lacking-- one hit from your spear deftly fells the creature.

Looking back now, the girl's managed to take down one of the goblins already, and as you close back in to help out, she sweeps with her own spear, striking the last goblin square in the side.

>Show off a little. If there's any time to be a badass, it's now.
Considering who we modeled our appearance on, we pretty much have to be a sucker for a pretty face.

I'm glad somebody caught on. I told you I'd reward that 20 somehow.

>>27686352
I'm uh, not even sure what you want me to do here. So, moving on..

You walk over casually to the girl. "So, uh... you alright?"

She shoots you an irritated look. "I... I had that under control! Totally, absolutely, completely under control!"

You can't help but chuckle a little at this. "You think? Looked like you had about as much control as me trying to figure out the controller last time."

At this, she looks like she's trying to come up with a rebuttal. Eventually, she seems to think of something, and once again she breaks into that wide grin of hers.

"Did I really look that bad?"

>Worse, actually.
>Shut up! That was...
>Clam up in shame.

I figured Bread was going to be an NPC. I was wondering if the girl from last thread was her.

Someone explain the significance of Bread?

As far as I know, it's the name of the GM of Firebender Quest.

I can post again !

4chan occasionally just shits the bed like that. It's frustrating as fuck when it happens.

Hold your horses, gents. Remember who we based our appearance on. Remember that his death was brought about by his Chronic Bitch Dependency.
Oh yeah, laugh it up. But Bitch Dependency is no laughing matter. Addiction to the bitches can fuck with your friends, your health, and scary enough, even your money. It's a disease, anon.

Looks like the OP gone. Well night
>>
Oh hey, we're back. I spent something like an hour and a half waiting for the site to come back, got tired, and here we are now.

Give me a minute, since the shenanigans last night made me lose what I was typing.

"Worse, actually. You were all 'Oh no, not falling rocks! Anything but that!'"

She's taken aback by this. "I... I did not!" You can tell you've got her on the ropes now.

"You were pretty outmatched, so I decided to jump in and help. After all, it's not like we're total strangers, right?"

"Oh, so you think I couldn-" She stops dead mid-sentence, processing what you just said. "I, uh... I guess?" Looks like you've got her off guard again. "Well... thanks."

"Don't mention it," you say, and this time you're the one who's got a bigass grin. "It's dangerous to play solo, right? So... how about it?"

It takes a second for her to follow what you're getting at. She considers for a moment, then replies. "...Oh, what the hell. Why not?"

[You received Bread's member address.]

Member addresses, as you recall from the manual, allow you to keep in touch with other players. If you have somebody's address, you can invite them to your party, as well as send them messages while in-game and e-mails when not logged in. Since you accepted, she now has your address as well.

"...Bread?" you ask.

She replies with one of her wide-ass smiles.

"Yup!"

And, that's where I was planning on stopping last night. First we critfail before I end a session, then the boards poop themselves the next time I'm about to close for the night.

It's almost enough to make me believe in this bad luck thing.

Anyway, since I just got up, I'm going to take a break from writing this. In the meantime, are there any questions about the quest or suggestions? I'm also curious how you all felt about the dungeon crawl. Enjoyable? Should I make it less crawl and more... cinematic I guess, the next time we're in a dungeon?

Check the first thread in the archive. Basically, some people rolled up the name through a 20, but I had like half a second after that was posted changed to a best-of-five system for rolls. I didn't want to slight anybody out of their 20, so instead, I applied it elsewhere.
